Dot:

What an abysmal and fake duty of care they are trying to introduce here.

That was the point I tried to make when ‘Patient Care Plans’ and other ‘Protocols’ were being introduced into the nursing game in the 80’s.
We, like the coppers above, were being locked into a system that gave bureaucrats in the health system carte blanche to deny responsibility to the medical and nursing staff if the shit hit the fan.
We are now reaping the rewards of the system being our masters and not our servants, throughout our entire society.

Could we have a reminder of the aggressive Canadian finance minister announcing her hunt down and closing of personal bank accounts and then the time it took to unfreeze said accounts.

Looks like Sturmfuerher Freeland has abjectly backflipped on that too.

This aggregation of tweets on Instapundit is worth a perusal. Includes this one:

Tom Marazzo @TomM71190988
My bank accounts have been unfrozen, now that the EA is over.
Tomorrow I’ll close all of my BMO accounts after withdrawing my money.

On Putin vs Tony Abbott, i’ve today been informed that Judo guys like The Pute are always training and they learn to box anyway, so Tony beating up Vlad over the Ukies shooting down MH17, as well as being preposterous, isn’t a realistic outcome.

As KGB he wouldn’t have done boxing but Systema. Those chubby Russian guys look flabby but are hard underneath, very hard. Judo and jujitsu are very hard on your body. Most exponents of other martial arts don’t usually go to Judo as they don’t like the closeness or the hardness. I was doing MMA before it was a thing by about 25 years.

Why did Trudeau suddenly walk back the Emergencies Act?

I was just listening to a Canadian economist on a talk show strongly opine that it was because the run on the banks when the whole account freezing fiasco was announced was freaking huge and scared the living hell out of them (the banks and the govt).

From what he said the money isn’t exactly flooding back into their coffers either. It’s going to take a while to rebuild trust and much of that money is never coming back.

Choo choo man, who shot down MH17? also show evidence please.

Runnybum – all that is very well known by Cats. It was a Buk unit from Russia in LGM drag, with a colonel who was caught on phone actually ordering the shot then going oh shit afterwards. Whereupon they skedaddled back over the border.

MH17 crash: Russian general accused of authorising transfer of missile that downed passenger jet (Apr 2020)

That’s one of the first hits I get. It has many of the essentials. It doesn’t mention that 3 days before the same unit or one like it shot down a Ukrainian Airforce transport jet at a similar height. So it was a case of mistaken identity. Not the Russians thought they were definitely Russia air defense troops “on holiday” so the reporting went at the time. Weird how you are allowed to take your Buk rocket launcher with you on your holidays.

If you count the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts as Russian territory (A thing Putin did post-facto before the first units officially moved in), then that claim would likely be accurate.

Tit-for-tat skirmishes and raids between Ukrainian Army and what-look-like-but-actually-turn-out-not-to-be-separatist-militia subunits could be interpreted as attacks on Russia, too.

Dover, at 5.37:

You know, it might just be that the territorial settlement of Ukraine following the collapse of the USSR was simply not fit for purpose. It was before then more a administrative unit rather than a political one; majorities in the East and Crimean peninsula never wanted to be part of an independent Ukraine.

Ukraine never, ever had a solid border. The closest they had to one was when the Blue Horde had the patch in the 13th century. Before that it was the ebbing and flowing Rus. I think it was also off and on with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth for a time.

Like Poland, its geographical position meant its borders changed according to whoever was strongest at the time. Like the Balfour Declaration, the latest was an administrative settlement which never pleased everyone, and whoever drew the map no doubt thought ‘Fuck it, that’ll do’ knowing that by the time serious territory disputes happened they’d either be dead or have moved to a juicy sinecure somewhere.

Wheat, barley and oilseed prices spike up worldwide.
Canola could hit the $1,000 tonne level and here’s me with the crop unsold.

And you all laughed when I said China was keeping its fertilizer for domestic consumption in anticipation of the Ukraine copping a flogging.
https://gro-intelligence.com/insights/russia-move-on-ukraine-spurs-wheat-prices-higher

Much will hinge on Western sanctions against Russia, which could be more severe than those imposed in 2014. Russia and Ukraine combined produce 14% of global wheat and supply 29% of all wheat exports. They also provide 17% of worldwide exports of corn. The two countries play a dominant role in world sunflower oil supplies, shipping 76% of exports. Worldwide shortages have pushed a wide range of vegetable oil prices higher, and Black Sea sunflower oil futures are up 11% so far this year.

A strong harvest would be good news for global wheat supplies, which are at their lowest level since 2013.

China hoarding super.
https://norgemining.com/2021/10/18/fertiliser-price-squeeze-china-halts-phosphate-exports/#:~:text=Some%20of%20China's%20major%20fertiliser,therefore%20the%20country's%20food%20production.
Some of China’s major fertiliser companies say they’re temporarily banning the export of phosphate – a major component of commercial fertiliser – until at least June 2022. The reason behind this move is no secret: to ensure the domestic supply of fertilisers and therefore the country’s food production.

Russia supplies a fair bit as well.
https://gro-intelligence.com/insights/russia-fertilizer-export-quotas-to-control-inflation
Russia announced plans to impose export quotas on nitrogen fertilizers to ensure domestic supplies and contain price inflation. The move could further support surging fertilizer prices worldwide and tighten global fertilizer markets already searching for supply.

Russia’s announcement is the country’s latest effort to keep domestic agricultural prices in check, after taxes on wheat exports were introduced earlier this year.

Russia plans to impose a six-month quota on various fertilizer exports. Nitrogen fertilizer exports will be limited to 5.9 million tonnes and shipments of complex fertilizers containing nitrogen to 5.35 million tonnes. The measures will begin in December.

Why a person might almost think the 2 countries had planned this sort of thing….

Russia and China are natural allies as both are now conventionally fascist. Slight differences since China came to fascism from communism whereas Russia came to fascism from a corrupt oligachy. So China is solider since the Party forms a strong base. Putin has been building his own Party as a base, it’s just not very solid.

The interesting thing is the West is also going fascist but with a mystical flavour that puts it in natural conflict with Russia/China. Maybe it would be better to call the West an emerging Gaia-version of Islam. Islam also has strong fascist features, but it too is in natural conflict with Russia/China.

The religiopolitical dynamics are fascinating, but I wish I wasn’t living in “interesting times” like these seem to be.

Choo choo man, you really are a fucking dumb shite, I never said the dues are in charge of central banks I said our governments aren’t in charge of them, how stupid can you get?

The Reserve Bank is totally under the control of the Commonwealth, since it is established by Act of Parliament and can thus have anything done to it that Parliament directs.
If you mean that the Executive Government isn’t in charge of the Bank, I’d say that’s at least an oversimplification since, among other things, the Treasurer is in control of the Bank’s profits and appointments to the Bank’s Board.
The fact that governments at least pretend to let the Bank be “independent” (and the Bank often does act that way) doesn’t change the fact that the government does have ultimate control.

Reserve Bank Act 1959

14 Membership of Reserve Bank Board

(1) The Reserve Bank Board shall consist of:

(a) the Governor;

(b) the Deputy Governor;

(c) the Secretary to the Department of the Treasury; and

(d) 6 other members, who shall be appointed in writing by the Treasurer in accordance with this section.
….
30 Profits

(1) Subject to subsection (2), the net profits of the Bank in each year shall be dealt with as follows:

(aa) such amount as the Treasurer, after consultation with the Reserve Bank Board, determines is to be set aside for contingencies; and

(a) such amount as the Treasurer, after consultation with the Reserve Bank Board, determines shall be placed to the credit of the Reserve Bank Reserve Fund; and

(b) the remainder shall be paid to the Commonwealth.

Russia and India also cooperate together.

The current geopolitical alignment is remarkably similar to the Cold War. The difference is that now China and Russia are fascist not communist. India is still neutral with a tendency towards Russia, just as they were during the cold war regarding the Soviets.

China and Russia are not entirely bosom buddies, but they weren’t during the Cold War either. They are however much closer to each other than with anyone else (other than Iran and the Norks).

The difference now is the West has gone gangrenous, so it’s rather like 1938, but with Russia and China instead of Germany and Japan. Will be interesting to see if the West cracks out of its funk. Unfortunately I think 80 years of Fabian subversion is terminal, particularly with the crazy woke and green fads now undermining everything.

Bob Hawke lied about sending forces to Gulf War
EXCLUSIVE
Troy Bramston
Senior Writer
@TroyBramston
19 minutes ago February 24, 2022
No Comments

Bob Hawke lied about the decision to commit forces to the Gulf War in 1990. There had been no formal US request to help enforce sanctions against Iraq when Hawke offered to send navy vessels and asked George H.W. Bush to say that Australia was invited, rather than Australia invited itself.

Phone transcripts reveal that after Iraq invaded Kuwait, Hawke offered to “send three ships” if the formal request came, following informal talks between diplomats, and asked Bush to guarantee regular consultation and say that the invitation came from the US.

“At the press conference, I can say you will have your people talking with us on a more definite basis as, I understand, participation is concerned,” Hawke told Bush on August 10. “For presentation, you called me, we had a yarn, we will be working (out) participation. We indicated our willingness to be a part of it.”

The US president got the message. “We will say that I called you to request if Australians could participate,” Bush replied. “You were positive. Details will be worked out by others. We will, in seven hours, watch for the take, then we’ll make a positive suggestion.”

But when Hawke announced that Australia would send ships to the Persian Gulf, he said he had not phoned Bush. “President Bush called me this morning,” Hawke claimed. “We agreed that Australia would contribute to a multinational task force in the Gulf.” When later pressed by journalists, Hawke insisted: “No, I did not phone president Bush.”

The revelation that Australia invited itself to the Gulf War is in a new biography, Bob Hawke: Demons and Destiny, published by Viking on March 1. The book includes interviews with Bush, Canadian prime minister Brian Mulroney and US secretary of state James Baker, and also excerpts from Bush’s unpublished diary.

Unfortunately like Bel Riose in Foundation (ie. Belisarius in Justinian’s Empire), one man has a limit to what he can do. There’s a bit of truth in “psychohistory”, or perhaps better described as societal and cultural inevitability. Once Putin is gone I suspect Russia will collapse again. Kiev is historically the birthplace of Rus’.

Too early to tell if that is an objective presently though.

I thought that the first mention of the Rus was a reference to the Rus Vikings who were in Sweden before venturing east. They were the only Viking group who sailed east, all other Viking groups, from Sweden, Norway and Denmark, sailed west. The Rus Vikings traveled fairly widely, they were a mercenary force in Constantinople for example, so they may have sojourned for a while on the Dneiper in the Kiev region, en route from the Baltic to Constantinople.

I’ve got my own pet totally unproven theory regarding their origins, I think that they are Canaanites. There is a mention, possibly in Books of Chronicles, that the Canaanites still living in the Land partnered with the Assyrians when they expelled the northern tribes of Israel. Some were taken by sea to various places and that quite possibly included the Baltic to work in the amber trade.

The Israelites and the Canaanites previously had a good relationship, together they created the Phoenician Empire which dominated the Mediterranean, however they allied themselves with the Assyrians and played a role in the dispersal of the northern Israelites when they were expelled from the Land.

I suspect that they were overthrown by their Israelite captives in Sweden, so they sailed away to the east, and entered recorded history as the Rus Vikings.

Is it possible to prove or disprove this theory, possibly so. We know that the Canaanites who left when Joshua came into the Land migrated to northern Africa and their descendants are now known as the Berber people in north-western Africa. I’ve wondered if there is a DNA relationship between the Berbers and the Russian descendants of the Rus.

It would be hard to prove though as Russia has such a diverse ethnic mix, the Rus mingled with the Slavs, central and far eastern Asian people, Georgians and others from the Caucuses, people from the ‘stan states, eastern Europeans, etc., it would be difficult to identify who is an actual Rus descendant.

That’s probably one of those questions we won’t have answered this side of the River Styx.

Bruce, cut the crap. That you or others on this obscure blog cared about the Ukraine years ago (which I doubt) has nothing to do with the worldwide confected outrage that we are seeing, coming out of nothing.

The whole thing is bizarre. Western lefties are supporting right wing militias and calling Putin a commie, misreading his name ala “Sadam” vs “Saddam” in the 1991 Gulf War. Alt righties supporting Putin save for his policies on taxes and private land ownership, he’d ban them and gaol them. Finally, the nationalists against globalism don’t want an independent Ukraine?

Another thing to think about is how the 1991 referendum was strongly for independence, but the east of Ukraine is now pro Russian? I can’t get over Ukraine handing over their nukes (1994) at the behest of the husband of the woman hated by the alt right for interference in making the Ukraine pro western!

Finally, Ukraine is very poor and corrupt – Russia might clean it up. Ironically, Timoshenko, who Russia targeted and accused of mismanagement, had an excellent economic record.

Mind boggling.

In his later years as a musician my husband worked Saturday nights at the Ukranian club at Cabramatta. I attended a few functions and Christmas parties there. Always for me a pleasant evening. Everyone was exceptionally friendly and the food was especially good.
My husband being Dutch born and having come to Aus when he was 22yrs fitted in well with the Ukranians. Everyone there treated me as one of their own. I was very impressed.

Rosie:

You don’t think French resistance fighters had any moral grounds to take up arms against the German invaders?

Then don a uniform like the rules say, rosie and don’t hide behind your civvie mates.

The Geneva Convention had nothing to say about Nazi reprisals against the villagers of Ordadour-sur-Glane either I suppose.

The Geneva Convention had a lot to say about the atrocity.
Postwar efforts to bring the SS men to trial were hampered by the difficulty of locating and identifying the Germans, many of whom had been subsequently killed in action, and by legal complications. Finally, in 1953, 21 of the 200 SS men were brought to trial. All but one were convicted; five of them received terms of imprisonment and two were executed.
We may not like the outcome, but it’s what happens when civilians get carried away by speech makers who don’t give a shit about the reality of the strife they arouse.
“Aux armes, citoyens!” makes for good movies, – the result is Lidice and Oradour-sur-Glane, and countless other villages.

Unsure about Paratroopers in Kiev but they have definitely jumped into Khakov. Was massive by the looks of the footage. Also another video of Kamovs and Mil Mi’s of some sort flying in formation near Russia’s border towards Eastern Ukraine. Other footage has T90’s on the move in the same regions, all boots on ground seems to be in the eastern regions, at present. Some footage of low flying passes by aircraft in formation in an unnamed city but with the ground based missile threat why would you over Kiev, could be old footage. Missiles are coming down all over the country on strategic assets similar to when the US softens up it targets with Tomahawks. I’ll look at it again in the morning as all the footage I have found on twitter is getting very repetitive at present.

Night all. Look in to what you guys dig up over night tomorrow.

ROFL. Russia is corrupt from top to bottom. Cleaning up Ukraine is a hilarious idea. Oh yes Putin will want to install a friendly like Yanakovich again, who was kicked out because he was totally corrupt as well as being a Russophile from the east.

Dot – a lot of Ukrainians hate Russians as badly as Tutsis hate Hutus, for pretty much the same reasons. Yes a division into a cultural Russian east and a cultural Ukrainian west is potentially possible, but Russia actually reintegrating Ukraine into a reborn Tsarist Empire is a different ask in the time of the AK-47. If Putin tries it may get messy. At least one grandmother was waving an AK around last week in Kiev. I think she’d just love a piece of a Russian.

It’s a relative thing (but yes, read without any context, that’s actually very funny). Australia is quite corrupt, but we are saintly compared to India…and no, this isn’t analogous to different states of the former USSR.

Bullshit Brucie. There is no reason to be supporting Russia over this. And the idea that someone would support Russia/Putin because of the unacceptable nature of the western left is mind boggling. Putin is a piece of shit and always has been. He’s enriched himself to the extent that he’s now the richest man in the world by thieving off his own people – allowing the oligarchs to front for him.

Tonight Chris Kenny started his programme by talking about Wussia, Wussia, Wussia…but, but Kenny clearly understands some of the related issues here. He acknowledges the west is weak and corrupt. Kenny showed a recent Russian army recruitment advertisement and compared to a recent woke, very woke US army recruitment advertisement. The advertisements say it all.

Oh and many of us could easily find Ukraine on a map and many of us know its history. I know some of its history, and I know about its Jewish history, a history of pogroms and genocide but also a rich cultural Jewish history. Kiev is the spiritual centre of Russian orthodoxy. Once upon a time Ukraine was part of the Commonwealth of Lithuania and later it formed part of the Pale of Settlement, both of which stretched from the Baltic to the Black Sea.

Here’s the thing I think some have misunderstood about the Brandon Administration. I’m not sure where the cut off level is that would make the Brandons concerned because of the electoral impact. The Brandons would have welcomed higher fossil fuel prices because it meant more pain through consumption and hopefully persuading folks towards EVs.
