zipster – thanks for links to the hearings on Joe’s pick for the Supreme Court.

I always enjoy Kennedy – he’s a rogue and probably a crook – we’re talking Louisiana here – but when it comes to the Gift of the Gab – oh boy.

He always starts by congratulating his victims in polite Southern language – how proud their parents must be and so on. Then he slaughters them like pigs in an abbatoir.

Saw a clip where he asked a hapless public servant just how much the global temperature would be reduced by the US putting itself trillions in debt. No answer, of course.

I wouldn’t trust him as far as anyone trusts BloJo, but hey – it’s an imperfect world.

Here’s the clip in question.

Two parts – 9ish mins Kennedy on the role of SCOTUS (and she looks very uncomfortable as he speaks) but the best part is the last 5 minutes, where he cannot get an answer on what spending trllions of borrowed money on ‘climate change’ will achieve.

Louisiana has a long tradition of producing politicians who do the right thing for the wrong reasons (see Huey Long and black nurses.)

I don’t suppose we have much hope in that department, with only six States.

Was talking to fam about Russian invasion, they being pro Ukraine which is perfectly rational because it is a sovereign country but we can’t change what happened.
Best thing now is for the west to myob so this conflict can end as quickly as possible and yes Russia can ‘win’ via negotiation, I don’t care.
This is not Sunni versus Shia Yadizi etc implacable hatred, Ukraine and Russia are majority Orthodox and have much more in common, there can be a workable outcome and the west can sate its self-righteousness outrage with thoughts and candles and aid to rebuild Ukraine.
Syrian conflict is now eleven years in.
Who wants that in Ukraine?
The energy crisis playing out in Western Europe as a consequence should be a sharp lesson as well.

Poor Ophelia! There’s a story behind that painting. Lizzie Siddal was a startling redhead and an artist in her own right, but is better known as a model for the Brotherhood.

Millais had her lie in a bath so he could get the drowning pose just right. Poor girl caught a chill and was never the same after.

I think it was Millais who ran off with Ruskin’s missus, causing great scandal. Despite all the “nice” painting, they were a rowdy lot. Morris was probably the most level headed but even he had “wymmyn problems”.

Ahhh…artists.

All of you advocating for a Russian win just be aware that no consequences for Russia this time will result in another war in a couple of years, definitely before Biden’s term ends. And there are no consequences apart from bad publicity, Russian gas is still flowing into Western Europe and oil is still flowing. Inflated oil prices are making up for the loss of some contracts.

My guess is that Belarus and Poland are next in Putin’s sights. Belarus will be absorbed with a minimum of fuss.

Then be prepared for a puffed-up China to try to swallow Taiwan. The only way to stop them is to make it known that Taiwan has nukes.

If Jackson is confirmed, it is likely she will have to recuse herself when the MH370 case goes before SCOTUS.

But it’s pretty rare.

But of course, let’s talk about Roe v Wade.

Scott Morrison is STILL LYING that Covid Vaccines are “Voluntary”

Morrison is actually still saying –

My view is that everyone needs to be vaccinated, regardless of what job you do. Your health is up to you, but being vaccinated protects you, your family and your community.

Since it is now patently clear that the “vaccinations” don’t actually protect you and are a serious health risk in themselves, what else can you conclude but that he is outright lying.

What are the alternatives, World War Three now or a long protracted conflict?
Zelensky is encouraged by Western support not to come to the negotiation table and Putin isn’t going to walk away empty handed.

Forbid anyone could sincerely believe vaccines provide some protection against serious illness and death for the old and frail.

You are perfectly entitled to believe anything you wish. However, the fact of the matter is that the injections don’t stop you getting or spreading Covid but can cause injury and even death, all of which has been clearly demonstrated.

What, then, does this say about a Prime Minister who is still using all means at his disposal to push it onto everyone? And I do still remember him saying at the beginning of the rollout that everyone would have to have it, before recanting somewhat, probably after someone pointed out to him that this was still beyond his authority.

If the jabs had been rolled out purely to the most at risk on a voluntary basis I would have had no objection at all. But they are trying to push it onto everyone while denying them other, less controversial treatments. This was what hardened my view against it in the first place. There is clearly an agenda, unrelated to our health, and it is abundantly clear that our Prime Minister is fully on board with it.

I think it was Millais who ran off with Ruskin’s missus, causing great scandal.

I read yonks ago, that Ruskin failed as an ideal husband due to his distaste for the actual reality of the female body, as opposed to the idealised form encountered in art.

What might his pronouns be today? We can only wonder.

Courier Mail has an Editorial on Covid today which can be summed up by

“It also means getting that third booster and ensuring your kids have their jabs to stop the spread at school”.

My comment below was rejected. A few minutes ago only one comment was showing which suggests many have been rejected. Facts no longer matter and as Indolent’s link above shows all our leaders are full on for the next jab. Qld not yet mandated 3rd but obviously coming.

“If it is ok with the Editor I would like to present an alternate view.

It is now well established and been reported in this paper that the first two jabs wane and this is why the booster was brought forward. At the same time CEO Pfizer as reported in this paper said the first two jabs were not effective against Omicron. Head of CDC said same recently as did CHO Canada. Since the booster is exactly the same vaccine it will be ineffective and also wane. These are verifiable facts.

I won’t be getting 3rd jab for the simple reason I know if I do it will lead to a fourth. Time to let the people decide without coercion.

As regards children I encourage the media and others to look up the results of the recently released study of 800,000 kids done by NY regarding efficiency of their Vax”.

Beautiful pic for a brand new thread, Dover. Gotta love those Victorian Pre-Raphaelites. They are particularky good on the Idylls of the King as well. Arthur’s spiriting away seaborne to the further west by his Queens after his last ‘dim weird battle in the west’, as Tennyson terms it, is one of my facorite romantic reconstructions. A sun and sea god on his way home until, like the new day itself, he would return.

Those who fail to connect the Arthurian legends with the spiritual life of the sun worship expressed in the architecture of Stonehenge and other Neolithic sites simply lack a religious imagination. The time depth is awe-inspiring, but real.

I’ve always been highly suspicious about the Ruskin story. These guys had seen a lot of naked women – models in their life drawing classes as students and afterwards in their own studios. They weren’t drawing exclusively from Greek and Roman statues.

There was a lot of rivalry, and from reports Ruskin was a pompous prat.

Sounds more like an elaborate and malicious joke, and a plausible cover story concocted for the Millais affair.

Election 2022: Porn pics major has a passion for politics

Ben Packham

11:00PM March 22, 2022

Retired special forces major Heston Russell has confirmed he will stand for the Senate in Queensland for his own Australian Values Party, putting his time as a pay-per-image pornographic model behind him.

The former 2nd Commando Regiment officer, who completed four deployments in Afghanistan, said he would stand on a platform of “accountability, excellence, teamwork and responsible leadership”.

Mr Russell fell out in 2020 with his veterans’ charity employer, Swiss 8, over his sharing of images on the OnlyFans website, which is used by sex workers and porn stars to sell explicit content. His page on the website stated he was fundraising for Swiss 8.

The ABC reported Mr Russell told his employer he would share “risque” content on the site but no “nudity of any kind”.

But photos obtained by the broadcaster revealed he charged OnlyFans users $US60 an image for a picture of himself on Anzac Day holding his erect penis. Swiss 8 chief executive Adrian Sutter told the ABC that Mr Russell’s sale of pornagraphic images did not align with the charity’s values.

Considering what else is on Hunter Biden’s Laptops, it isn’t surprising that this would be his Daddy’s top pick –

Hawley Lists Seven Times Ketanji Brown Jackson Issued Soft Sentences in Child-Porn Cases

[link & video] https://cnsnews.com/blog/craig-bannister/hawley-lists-seven-times-ketanji-brown-jackson-issued-soft-sentences-child

At Monday’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) listed seven child pornography cases in which President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, sentenced the convicted defendant to a lesser sentence than federal guidelines recommended and prosecution requested.

Sen. Hawley summarized the findings of the seven cases regarding child pornography charges presided over by Jackson during her district court tenure, in which she had discretion in her sentencing.

In two cases, Judge Jackson gave the lowest sentence permitted by law:

1. Defendant distributed multiple images of child porn, possessed dozens more, including videos:

Federal sentencing guidelines: 97-121 months in prison.
Prosecutors recommended 24 months in prison.
Judge Jackson gave the defendant three months in prison.

2. Defendant possessed 48 files of child pornography:

Federal guidelines: 78-97 months in prison.
Prosecutor recommended the same (78-97 months).
Judge Jackson sentenced him to 28 months.

3. Defendant distributed dozens of images of child pornography, possessed over six hundred:

Federal guidelines: 151-188 months in prison.
Prosecutor recommended 72 months.
Judge Jackson gave the defendant the lowest sentence permitted by law (60 months).

4. Defendant distributed 33 graphic images and videos of child sexual assault on anonymous messaging app:

Federal guidelines: 70-87 months in prison.
Prosecutor recommended 70 months in prison.
Judge Jackson sentenced to the lowest sentence permitted by law (60 months).

5. Defendant distributed scores of images and children suffering sexual abuse:

Federal guidelines: 97-121 months in prison.
Prosecutor recommended 97 months in prison.
Judge Jackson gave him 57 months

6. Defendant distributed over a hundred videos of child pornography:

Guidelines: 97-121 months in prison.
Prosecution recommended 97 months.
Judge Jackson gave 71 months.

7. Defendant was convicted of traveling across state lines to engage in sexual intercourse with a child and also possessed six separate thumb drives of child pornography:

Guidelines: 46-57 months in prison.
Prosecutor recommended 49 months.
Judge Jackson sentenced to 37 months.

Sen. Hawley said that he was troubled by the sentences doled out by Judge Jackson in these cases, and that he hoped to discuss them with her as the hearings continued.

Just read backthread.

There is a Linette in the ‘Arthurian cycle’, Calli. Later Vulgate I think but I don’t have my books with me to look it up. Sometimes she is called Lunette (a moon goddess reference) and I think I have also seen Lunet and Linnet in some variations. There is no one cycle, just an additive range of them, sometimes in ‘Continuations’. It is a life’s work to get on top of it all and the early sources are my main interest anyway. Many commentaries exist on the Arthurian females. Not all trace pagan origins which is my interest. Modern work is often feminist in orientation, seeking female archetypes, as in the book called ‘King Arthur’s Enchantresses’. Not really my cup of tea but there can be crossover with religious symbolism.

The former pilot accused of murdering missing Victorian campers Carol Clay and Russell Hill has withdrawn his unfair dismissal claim against Jetstar, The Age reports.

Gregg Lynn, 55, was officially terminated from his position with Jetstar following his arrest over the alleged murders of the two campers in the Wonnangatta Valley.

Following his dismissal the Transport Workers Union of Australia (TWU) issued a letter to Jetstar on January 22 on Lynn’s behalf, alleging he was denied procedural fairness. The Union claimed Lynn had organised an arrangement for leave from Jetstar while he was on remand.

At the time, TWU branch secretary John Berger told news.com.au “Lynn’s dismissal from employment should be considered a disproportionate response.”

Lizzie, seconded. Similar elsewhere. Last Sunday I was reading a bit about Gobekli Tepe and also a Natufian village in Israel c. 11,500 BC. The latter was interesting since it was before agriculture was invented, although there was so much natural grain and game in the area they could sustain permanent settlements. Gobekli Tepe is especially interesting as a very very early religious site. It wasn’t a settlement, but was a centralized religious site. The iconography is fascinating. I’ve seen suggestions that it may’ve been related to the obsidian trade in that area – which would’ve been a very mystical substance, if you were a local in those times.

Cassie, splinter parties like the LDP are full of idealists who tend to fight like cats and dogs. Libertarians, in particular, are not only idealists, but believe in liberty only as an abstract concept and are terrified of actually being in government and having to make the hard day-to-day, pragmatic decisions. For all the talk of a rules-based order, the world’s rule-makers have reverted unhesitatingly to unilateralism. The risks are legion. The flood of weapons that the West is sending to Ukraine—a country with a long history of weak governance and widespread corruption—could eventually flow westward, fuelling organised crime, narcotics trafficking and terrorist violence across Europe.

Cassie – The best thing about young Warwick and the Fairfax re-takeover was he used to drive an ancient car to work, despite being CEO. An old Datsun or something. I can’t find any articles though, it’s just a mk 1 ancient Bruce-memory.

Not a good look for the party. The MSM will latch onto it.

He and Alan Bond should have been locked up for life “never to be released.”

A mate from law school married Laurie Connell’s daughter. She is lovely – something you could never say about the old man.

In Big Barrel Hat Country news:

PM pledges to build dam four time size of Sydney Harbour

Queenslanders are being promised a body of water four times the size of the Sydney Harbour, but it will come at an eye-watering cost.

Mr Morrison was in Townsville on Wednesday to spruik his $5.4 billion commitment to get the Hells Gate Dam project off the ground.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Mr Morrison said the federal government would fully fund the project.

Well, he’s won my vote.
Eat nutritious newspaper soup, rest of Australia – we’re fuk’n in.

He also denied the project was an election sweetener for Mr Katter.

“I love Bob, but it’s not about Bob. And Bob would agree it’s not about Bob,” Mr Morrison said.

“What it is about is jobs. It’s about the agriculture that can be created and the wealth that is created.”

A final business case into the proposal is expected to be completed in June.

Oh. June?
But, but – it’s going to go ahead?Right?

Great read. Thanks. This was also highly relevant.

China is set to emerge as the real winner of the NATO–Russia conflict. An overstretched America’s renewed preoccupation with European security will create strategic space for China to press its strategic objectives—its leaders have been as clear about absorbing Taiwan as Putin was about claiming Ukraine—and bolster its global influence, at the expense of the US.

Chinese global dominance would amount to the final nail in the coffin of the rules-based order. Since its establishment in 1949, the People’s Republic has displayed blatant contempt for international law, more than doubling its land mass by annexing Xinjiang and Tibet and currently detaining over a million Muslims. Yet China has paid no tangible price. The Kremlin, for its part, probably didn’t think twice about rejecting the International Court of Justice order to suspend its military operations in Ukraine.

International law may be powerful against the powerless, but it is powerless against the powerful.

(Maybe override those trad owners stopping da gas fracking while you’re at it. It’s an Emergency after all.)

SloMo is in the final Gillardian phase where he will say and do anything he thinks will get him elected. The only difference is the Liars won’t implement them.
