Re-education: The commies can learn from us

I was with two friends on Friday over coffee. Re-education came up as it applies to communist China and the Uyghurs; to communist regimes generally. I thought, hello, we Australians have been subjected to massive re-education campaigns for some considerable time.

Of course, re-education is to do with replacing truths, or at least the pursuit of them, with lies to serve a political agenda. Think of the lie that Australia was invaded rather than settled. That the indigenous inhabitants formed nations. That there was ever a possibility of such technologically and culturally primitive and sparsely populated nomadic tribes ever being able to hold onto Australia. That there was ever a better outcome, out of all possible outcomes, than settlement by the British.

The lies go on and have gotten into schools. Who doesn’t believe in the lie of the so-called Stolen Generations? Hardly anyone. This is despite Keith Windschuttle’s masterly and scholarly debunking of the fabrication in his book, The Fabrication of Aboriginal History (Vol 3). Oh, Rudd apologised for it; it must be true. You notice how Peter Dutton got out of absenting himself from the Parliament on the fateful day. It was a mistake, he said. He couldn’t be there while Aboriginal children were still being abused dreadfully.

A lie on a lie, I suspect. He knows that there was no systematic removal of part-Aboriginal children from their families. He knows that good people who took neglected children into care have been unfairly maligned. Yet, he has to live the lie to survive. A pretty powerful and successful re-education campaign, I’d say.

Then, to segue, there’s Covid. Has there ever been anything like it? Healthy people prevented from leaving home; working, visiting infirm relatives and the like. But that’s not it. What’s it is that healthy people were persuaded to like being locked up. Voted back in politicians, who locked them up, with increased majorities. And the vaccines. No proof at all that they work. How many obese people with other comorbidities – the only cohort at material risk – did the vaccines save. Who knows? We are not told. I suspect none. Yet parents are apparently getting their healthy 5- to 11-year-olds jabbed to counter a non-existent threat. A bloke at lunch moved away from me last month because he discovered I was not vaccinated. The well-known fact that vaccinated people catch the virus and pass it on does not negate the power of the re-education campaign.

Finally, to climate change. Talk to anyone. Or most anyone. Not only do they believe that we are at existential risk from climate change, despite the evidence that natural disasters are causing much less harm than they ever did, but that we can do something about it. Tell them that China spews out 26 or 27 times more CO2 than Australia and is busily building many new coal-power stations. Talk to the wall. The remaining neurons in their brains shut down. Re-education complete.

The commies can learn a thing or two from us. I suspect those living in China, in the Soviet Union in the past, in North Korea, develop an immunity. A sledgehammer approach, obvious and ludicrous propaganda, might not be as effective as the more subtle techniques employed by our betters. Anyway, the proof is in the puddin. Look around you and despair. Six teals, empty-heads, deluded women, were voted in. My next-door neighbour, an otherwise sensible person, voted for one, she tells me.

One way to put it is that we are living in a society moulded by lies. Lies everywhere. The Father of Lies must be chortling, in his own demonic way.

Many cases of employees saying something about qwertyism and getting pinged, then being forced to undergo “sensitivity training”. That or lose their jobs.

The welcome to country/acknowledging traditional owners thing is especially interesting, since it has morphed into a sort of prayer that is used to open meetings. Direct replacement of the Lord’s Prayer of old. It just goes to show that new religions do so like to remove all vestiges of their rivals.

Well said, Peter.
But the BIG LIE, the one that is repeated over and over again, is that the gas of life, CO2, has even the remotest connection with the weather.

I have come to the very painful conclusion that contemporary Australia is nothing like the mythological caricature of the good natured, generous, pragmatic, laconic, sceptical people of our past.

How did this change occur? Historians and sociologists of the future may work it out. Maybe the post war prosperity ate away at our resilience. But I suspect that the integration of too many diverse cultures weakened the social fabric.

What a gem of an article! Thankfully as a senior citizen I haven’t fallen for the propaganda listed above. Let me write on one of them in particular as I see “climate change” as a deadly threat to western civilisation. Firstly, I wonder how many people know or care that most of the lies foisted on us aren’t even approved by the ICCC. Most articles published and quoted are by activists and/or the media who seem to hate the west even if it is their own countries. Secondly I also wonder how many people know or care that the whole Net Zero debacle is based solely on computer models. We are behaving like a stampeding herd of elephant frightened by a shadow.

Sentences 1 and 2 I am in hearty agreeance with, Min. But No. 3? No, sadly I musty disagree. While people perhaps have the ability to overcome, I fear they have lost the will to do so.

For the record, I don’t believe in abiogenesis myself but the handy argument against Pasteur’s experiment is that he didn’t have the timescale it requires to generate life from various organic matter.

Great post Peter. Here’s another one: There is no evidence of election fraud in the 2020 US election. Another: Diversity is a strength. And one more: George Pell is a pedo. But wait, there’s more: Ukraine is an innocent democracy smashing Russia in combat.

I am now at the stage that I do not believe a word that comes from government or politicians.

Saddest of all for me, Jupes, is that the last place I go to find out what’s going on in the world is the mainstream media, which has become a disinformation sewer, a calculated deception and a distraction — chewy for the eyes, as my late mum used to call it.

Most of those who now call themselves journalists aren’t curious about the world or the universe. Journalism colleges have turned them into retailers of unpopular political ideas, which they are trying force on the masses, who they regard as too stupid to know any better.

PS: Great post, Peter.

We stopped watching morning news in 2009. We have a TV here in rural Qld, but no reception. We have been here 3 years. We don’t miss it. What did we do yesterday instead of watch TV? We fenced the cattleyard fence which was in major need of replacing, our neighbours helped us start halter training two heifers, we made a couple of rope halters, we hauled old fencing to the tip and we relaxed in front of the fire. Today we plan to collect wood, try to get the calves tied to posts again, weed the garden and plan the repair for the next section of post and rail cattleyards. We cannot drive on our farm because it is waterlogged. I love our ramshackle farm!

Part of the problem, for some, is that they believe that salvation lies in the state. Indvidual responsibility is jettisoned, if people can be persuaded that institutions can provide. It is convenient to get the other guy to pay. And there is no end of numpty’s dressed up as the vanguard for a new utopia who can offer that – as long as someone else pays.
The disparity betewen the rich and poor widens (not that in itself this is an issue); it is just that those with their interventionist programs do not realise they lead to impoverishment if the free market is not allowed to operate (you know, not WEF ‘metaverse’ programs {look that up if you want a laugh], but entrepreneurs with ideas and finacial capital who buy factors of production, employ people and produce something of value – when is that ever taught is school or university [though I stand corrected, that at least utilitarian neoclassical economics has some value]?). Interestingly, poverty marked by those on less than the minimal amount per day is decreasing.
The encroaching welfarism, statism, that has come out of Europe in the nineteenth century, along with the state’s womb to tomb redistribution, salvic programs do nothing. People never hear about that idiot Lenin’s program which impoverished numerous countries for three generations. It is the same with those that promulgate the lies mentioned in the opening post.
There is most likely a feeling of guilt for the prosperity of the West that certain groups cannot tolerate — we must have got here through oppression and extortion, or slave trading or some other historical chestnut — so they invent ways of self atonement, via the state, of course, to apologise and of course pay, using someone else’s money for their presumed guilt, with the elite as their high priests weeping and wailing over catastrophes, such as global warming (though we could with a bit of global warming at present in Melbourne! Is it not the case that less prosperous countries looked to the West with its rule-of-law and constitutional democracy, Judeo-Christian heritage (which the left abhors, thinking that they have a reasonable alternative) and send their kids here for education? I am sure that many Asian parents wring their hands and I have seen Asian students do the same, thinking they have received a good education at Australian universities.
All generalisations, of course, but the move to and worship of the state and away from other authorities, such as individual responsibility and God, is evident.

How did this change occur?

60,000 men from the Generation born between 1870 and 1900 were killed in the Great War. At least that many more were maimed for life.

Further to my comment at 7:45 am, the need for massive migration was recognised in the 30s, the birthrate was so weak due to the massive loss of men that the population would’ve gone into decline by 1975.
That’s what’s happened in Russia, the colossal losses of men during the Great Patriotic War sent the population into irreversible decline.
Happened to France & Germany too.
And England.

Keith Windschuttle is my age and of my university generation. We have had an occasional rueful chat together about that and about how we have changed. He was never a communist, although like many of us, including me, he was a socialist of sorts; never one of the International Socialist or Trotskyist lunatics and nor was I. Today we are both conservatives. We reflected our times and the forward ‘thinkers’ (so we thought) of our day, as young people today reflect theirs. This leads me to hope that in time some of today’s generation will see sense and move on. I note that some are rejecting wokeness already. Climate madness next for outright rejection? Some youth still study real science.

At eighty next month, I do wonder if I will live to see it. Things move quickly today so perhaps I will.
In some of life’s darkest moments, which bedevil us all at times, I have always lived in hope of better things. A good sleep usually leads to a more cheerful awakening. Keeping busy is life’s clue to gathering rosebuds and making hay and thus seeing through the winter chill.
