I know that, Zip. My point is that if the longevity rate is rising, then the 2.1 replacement rate should be falling, no? It should be falling but it’s always remained at 2.1 since I was a kid.

And in any case it does somewhat undercut the chattering classes’ pants-wetting hysteria about “OMG 6 weeks and 3 days” that m0nty’s been going along with.

Are you completely stupid?

A ten year old goes to the Doctor for a pregnancy check, how likely is it that she doesn’t know the date that conception happened?
Or are you saying that the Doctor didn’t know the day’s date when the consultation occurred?

Ladies and gentlemen, let me present to you the Olympic gold medal winning world record holder at missing the point.
You complete fuckhead Ed. No-one has said there’d be anything surprising about them knowing the date, in fact I made that point myself elsewhere. What the pants-wetting is about is the whole idea that because (allegedly) she was three days past an arbitrary 6 week deadline she couldn’t get an abortion, and now its been revealed that no such hard deadline exists.
Even by your abysmal standards that comment was inanimate object-level lack of intelligence.

nope. can’t fall below 2. maintenance is not dependent on lifespan. lifespan just mean more and more old people hanging about while there are fewer and fewer kids. the population keeps growing till the oldest generation dies off then it’s all downhill.

Making them poor and starving them has the attribute that they will have a lower carbon footprint.

If longevity continues to rise the replacement rate has to fall as you don’t need as many kids to prevent a population drop. It goes back to 2.1 at the the point when longevity stops. I think that’s correct.

Not necessarily as long as people are earning money and or the economy is growing . If people can continue working as they age it shouldn’t be a problem. The nature of work is changing fast. I bet that at some places the work week is around 20 hours a week if that.

Electric Vehicles Are a Tool of Tyranny

First, don’t blame the vehicle. It is a tool that might be just what Los Angeles needs to cope with inversions. Electric vehicles are also very good as airport shuttles and for other locations where short, repetitive routes are the primary use. Some may even be fun to drive (except when they catch on fire).

But do not believe for a minute that the plan is to replace each of the 275 million gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles on the road today in the United States with electric vehicles (which today comprise just 1 percent of the U.S. fleet). Worldwide, there are nearly of 1.5 billion vehicles on the road today, but only 6 million are EVs. That’s less than 0.5 percent. And most of them are in China, which controls the supply of batteries and electronics for EVs.

The media and the White House are simply not telling you the truth.

But the World Economic Forum recently let the cat out of the bag. Their goal: You will own nothing and be happier for it. Or, as Israeli historican Yuval Noah Harari put it, “There will be two classes: The exploited and the useless class (people who don’t adopt wearable technologies, metaverse, etc.). It’s better to be exploited than be useless.”

Let that sink in. The plan is not for you to be able to purchase your own electric vehicle. And you will have to gain permission – through a Chinese-style social credit system – to be allowed to use a government-supplied vehicle.

Remember that, campaigning in 2020, Joe Biden pledged that, “We are going to get rid of fossil fuels.” His every action as President, including draining the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, has moved this nation toward that goal.

A rate of 2.1 has the redundancy of the 0.1 for all the incels, infertile couples and homosexuals that get spawned. But for a couple to account for the fact that they need two people to replace themselves you need two kids. I’m not a population person / demography person but it would seem that is how they work it out. Once you have your two kids it shouldn’t really matter how long you linger for afterwards, you have accounted for yourself. Everyone else on average is doing the same thing, that should equate to stable population.

We need Dr BG, stats is a dismal discipline.

And the cars that are around are often missing functionality due to chip shortages.
We managed to wangle one which was fully kitted out.
In fact, it had stuff we probably wouldn’t take if we could pick and mix (pamoronic sunroof, flashy super low profile tyres).

While we were looking I see a promo for free 5 year servicing.
Rang the dealer and told him I would have some of that.
“Not for you” he says.
They tell me that to encourage people to sign up for their new year models (which have features left out due chip shortages) and because ours was fully kitted out, we weren’t eligible. Apparently a lot of dealers are doing this sort of incentive.
Does this mean …
.1 ) they don’t expect the chip shortage to be fixed anytime soon so that is the new standard build? or
.2 ) They do expect it to be fixed and they will be left with a lot of short-fitted stock which they will have to discount heavily?

Joe Biden Repeats Story of a 10-Year-Old Rape Victim Denied Abortion but Is This Story Even Real?

Washington Post Late to the Party on Fact-Checking Poorly Sourced ’10-Year-Old Rape Victim’ Abortion Tale BUT Proves Us Right

It took four more days, my viral tweet, Joe Biden weighing in, and a RealClearPolitics reporter asking the White House press secretary about it for Kessler to get interested in fact-checking this story. He didn’t do a terrible job. With the headline that says “A one-source story about a 10-year-old and an abortion goes viral,” Kessler threw cold water on Dr. Bernard’s claims.

The only source cited for the anecdote was Bernard. She’s on the record, but there is no indication that the newspaper made other attempts to confirm her account. The story’s lead reporter, Shari Rudavsky, did not respond to a query asking whether additional sourcing was obtained. A Gannett spokeswoman provided a comment from Bro Krift, the newspaper’s executive editor: “The facts and sourcing about people crossing state lines into Indiana, including the 10-year-old girl, for abortions are clear. We have no additional comment at this time.”

Rudavsky never responded to me either; nor did Krift. Krift’s response to the Post is pretty revealing. He refused to answer direct questions about how the information was vetted. I can’t resist: Clearly, Bro, the info isn’t “clear,” or you wouldn’t have the WaPo, Snopes, and a hundred other outlets asking you to clarify your vetting process.

Kessler went on to try and confirm the story by finding a criminal report, which as I said would have been required under the law since doctors are mandated reporters. He couldn’t find any, and Bernard wouldn’t tell him if she followed the law and reported a crime as she is required to do. (LOL)

Fourteen dead in South Africa bar shooting
Mogomotsi MagomeAP
Sun, 10 July 2022 3:29PM

A mass shooting at a tavern in Johannesburg’s Soweto township has killed 14 people and left three others in critical condition, according to police.

Police are investigating reports that a group of men arrived in a minibus taxi and opened fire on some of the patrons at the bar late on Saturday night.

Police were on Sunday morning removing bodies of the deceased and investigating what had led to the mass shooting.

The three critically injured and one other person wounded were taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

The number of cartridges found on the scene indicated it was a group of people who shot at the patrons, Gauteng province police commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela.

“The primary investigation suggests that these people were enjoying themselves here, in a licenced tavern operating within the right hours,” Mawela told The Associated Press.

“All of a sudden they heard some gunshots, that is when people tried to run out of the tavern. We don’t have the full details at the moment of what is the motive, and why they were targeting these people.

“You can see that a high calibre firearm was used and it was shooting randomly. You can see that every one of those people were struggling to get out of the tavern.

Boeing wants safety waiver for latest 737 MAX

The company’s CEO has threatened to ax the largest plane in the 737 family unless Congress extends a regulatory deadline

Boeing Chief Executive Dave Calhoun has called the situation “a little bit of an all-or-nothing” as the scandal-ridden aerospace company faces a deadline to secure approval for the 737 MAX 10 jet from US authorities before new safety standards kick in next year.

Under the 2020 Aircraft Certification, Safety, and Accountability Act, all planes certified after December 31, 2022 will have to comply with new Federal Aviation Administration regulations regarding cockpit alert systems that warn pilots of malfunctions during flight. Amid heightened scrutiny of the 737 MAX family in recent years, Boeing has been struggling to get regulatory approval for the latest and largest modification of the plane before the deadline.

In an interview with Aviation Week magazine this week, Calhoun said he hopes the company won’t have to go as far as to cancel the project altogether, but acknowledged there was always a “risk.”

“This is a risk I’m willing to take. If I lose the fight, I lose the fight,” Calhoun said, indicating that Boeing is determined to lobby for the approval of the jet without an upgrade to the crew alert system.

The company believes the entire MAX family should be exempt from the latest safety standard. If MAX 10 is not certified in time, and unless Congress extends the deadline or grants a waiver, Boeing will have to conduct a costly redesign of the plane’s cockpit and come up with a separate training program for its pilots.

Boeing wants safety waiver for latest 737 MAX

The company’s CEO has threatened to ax the largest plane in the 737 family unless Congress extends a regulatory deadline

I call bullshit.
I don’t think Boeing are in any position to call the shots on 737-Max certification with the amount of blood they have on their hands.
If they do can it, that would tell me that they have concluded it is an irredeemable lemon, and they have to design a new single-aisle aircraft from the ground up.

Take this to an extreme so we’re all on the same page. If people lived forever, what would the “replacement” rate need to be in order for the size of the population to remain static? It would have to be zero, right?

Assuming everyone stays productive forever, then yes.
If everyone retires at a set age, no you need replacements.

Just had the four Grandsons and their Dad (my son) on board for ten days.
I prepared exhaustively and expensively.
They wouldn’t eat anything offered (but Mum says). From 4pm to 8pm was total kid time – stop fighting, endless bath, dinner involving Father running around asking the scroates what they would prefer to what was offered, a library whilting series of book readings. Post bed, the oldest emerging an announcing that his running coach said that what was offered would ruin his PB times. His coach was obviously absent at the surf club nexy day when he filled up with fish and chips.
Hard for me to say, but the Pommy grand kids whose parents are not big dicks in the health industry are much more based.
Son was a touch crinkly lipped when his Mother reminded him that in our house he ate with us and he ate what was offered – nothing else.

Friend up here in the ‘ville with 2 children climbing the walls. Half way through his 8 day iso, yup it is 8 not 7 as day 0 is day you are tested apparently. Last weekend we had a 4 day wet and cold snap, like Melbourne standard 10-15 deg days. One of his kids got it somewhere before cold snap and being school hols they are miffed where.

Staggered across the 4, Child 1 came down first, nearly a teen it was very mild and she shrugged it off, then mum got it knocked her sideways for 48hrs, then youngest he was mildly sick for 48 hrs as well. Friend started to notice symptoms Tuesday, Wednesday he was coughing & sore throat. His place of employment still big on the tests so when he reported a cold they insisted on PCR. That came back positive. His words, I’ve had worse hangovers than this and I have to burn sick leave for it.

Hope your experience isn’t too bad.

Boeing wants safety waiver for latest 737 MAX

The usual deal with certification is that the manufacturer tells the regulator that they are going to develop a new aircraft. At that time the existing regulations are what you certify to. If the regulations change you are grandfathered to what existed when you started the project.
Applying new regs to a design well on the way is not on. Think about the investment implications if that’s not so. Trust politicians to screw it up. If you want to change the certification basis after a certain date it should only apply to new designs *started* AFTER that date.
The MAX 10 is designed so that existing crews can operate it. Change the EICAS and you’ll likely need a new type rating. Could be the end of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
There was nothing wrong with the MAX anyway, just the monkeys flying them. Trim doing odd things? Turn it off. Memory item and the switches are right there at the back of the console. Alternatively just grab the big 10 inch diameter wheel next to your knee and hold it steady. Monkeys.

So why did US pilot unions refuse to fly it after the second prang?
Are they monkeys too?
No.
Boeing pulled one too many swift moves in pushing the Max through.
They are now reaping that whirlwind.

Yep.
It was all about training costs for airlines. So they removed any reference to their dodgy MCAS system from manuals, including what to do if it took you for a porpoise ride just after take-off.
Corner cutting which cost 346 lives.

Change that and you aren’t going to sell nearly as many aircraft.

Err, they’ll have a bigger problem selling any of these cobbled together shitboxes if it is perceived that they have bullied there way through re-certification.

Experienced and highly skilled pilots don’t need checklists.
Apparently this was the mantra of Max Quartermain.
Max speared his King Air into Essendon DFO in 2017, killing himself and four passengers, after taking off with the rudder trim set hard left. There were five (5) separate checklist points where the pilot has the opportunity to verify that trims are neutral (or set for take off).
I was always taught to exercise the controls fully in all directions twice as part of pre-flight, and check the control surfaces during the walk around.
The tiniest thing could foul and obstruct them.
I still remember that Air Crash Investigation episode where some tiny insects built a mud nest inside a pitot tube inlet.

That’s an issue that’s ignored with a ruthless detachment.

I find Birdsell and Tindale’s work foundational. Confirmed as it is, at least in part, by this:

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/312577659_Humans_rather_than_climate_the_primary_cause_of_Pleistocene_megafaunal_extinction_in_Australia

The Ted Rule article appears to support this in a rather diffuse way, but then he goes all fairy floss:

Old-style racist thinking has had a beating but it is hardly dead. Scratch the surface and you can see some unstated assumptions: history is the story of progression towards the light, presumably whatever orthodoxy rules at the present; there are advanced societies and primitive societies and the primitive societies are not capable of doing the things that advanced societies are; technology advances, never retreats.

My problem with this is that, from what we can see, humanity and its capabilities haven’t changed much in the 100,000-odd years of Homo sapiens. If I can do it, it’s a fair bet that my 500-generation ancestor could do it given the chance.

This is nothing more than Pascoe bullshit with a hearty dollop of Gammage pomposity thrown in. I’ll stick with Birdsell and Tindale and the Mega Fauna lads. The 3rd nations great achievements were extinguishing the big animals, burning the place down and fighting and fucking with each other.

Jason Roberts has been cleared of the shooting murders of Sgt Gary Silk and Sen Constable Rodney Miller, after spending 22 years in prison.

After a marathon retrial of Roberts over the murders, a Supreme Court jury returned not guilty verdicts on both murder counts on Monday.

Roberts, 41, has always maintained his innocence, despite being convicted at the original trial in 2002.

Roberts’ testimony to the jury was that he had not been present at the Silk-Miller shooting scene in Cochranes Rd, Moorabbin, with his father figure and armed robbery partner, Bandali Debs, shortly after midnight on August 16.

Roberts was 17 years old at the time of the murders.

He has spent almost all his time in custody as a maximum security prisoner.

Roberts chose to give evidence at his trial and took the stand last month.

When he was asked by defence barrister David Hallowes, SC, if he went out that night with Debs, Roberts simply answered: No, I did not.”

Asked if he shot Sgt Silk, 34, Roberts said: “I certainly did not.”

Asked if he shot Sen Constable Miller, 35, Roberts said: I certainly did not.”

Roberts would testify Debs, the serial killer father of his girlfriend, Nicole, went to the Silky Emperor Chinese Restaurant alone and was intercepted by the officers who were staking out the venue.

So a simple amber light telling you something is out of whack so you scan to check, is replaced by software driven messages on the engine displays. Can’t see how this is so vital given the huge number of Boeing 737’s of all vintages that have flown for decades with excellent safety records.
The 737 MAX 10 was launched in 2017, before this requirement was dreamed up and this requirement has nothing to do with the MCAS.

Confidential Pfizer Documents reveal 90% of Covid Vaccinated Pregnant Women lost their Baby

Covid-19 Vaccination increases risk of suffering Miscarriage by at least 1,517%

Send money before we are shut down.

These ABSOLUTE TRUTHS have been covered up by the UK Government – who PRETEND that the data shows no statistical difference in outcomes between jabbed and unjabbed mothers. Off a ridiculously small and unrepresentative sample of 600,000 women.

And Boris Johnson was forced to resign.
Hmmm? Makes you think.

Holly Rainbow Serpent…anyone see this on carsales.com?

” But considering the state of Australia’s used car market – and a $260,000 asking price – it’s easy to understand why the seller is keen to shore up the financing.

$260,000?
Good Lord, I have the exact same thing: except it’s very far from mint condition and doesn’t have a coffee machine. Also it is fairly uncomfortable to live in/on.

But it does have air-lockers, so there’s that.

Hopefully the Bonhomie and Fellowship plug-in is working 5/5.

That seems to be fixed.
It looks like the Bonhomie and Good Humour plug-ins were being accessed through the Fuck You Are Spastics portal, which was tripping the circuit breakers in the Central Sense of Humour module.

And what exactly is the lesson? Close down your blog when you are criticised by commenters? That you couldn’t even win a debate with Steve from Brissy and Homer P, therefore no-one else should have a blog? Enquiring minds …

Just a bit of coding, eh?
Should be pretty easy to get done in five months, right?
Even allowing for the fact that you have B-grade software engineers on the job.
So why is the Boeing CEO having a footstamping hissy-fit and threatening to take his bat and ball and go home?
