It’s a pity that the Leak cartoon buys into the media and government spin where it cannot be at all acknowledged that either of the two men are in any way deserving. Thus, since Djokovic reflects resistance to the vaccine mania and is the victim of the disgraceful behaviour of the Australian establishment towards him, and since Kyrgios had stood by Djokovic, clearly, any journalistic cartoonist – one keen to ensure his continuing media salt – must ridicule not just one of the tennis players but both. The Australia citizenry must be prevented from forming mistaken opinions about what it is to be Australian. The joke is on us.

The ABC must have run this exact story dozens of times by now – it just finds a different neurotic person to whinge about how no one cares about them, how they’re terrified to go out in public with all of the indifferent maskless people milling about, daring to get on with their lives etc – and a bunch of different ‘experts’ to inform us why we all need to be forced back into face nappies and generally start panicking again.

Health experts say COVID-19 complacency has restricted freedoms of the immunocompromised and elderly

With COVID-19 still casting a spectre over every Australian town and city, Carol has found herself cut off from the rest of the world.

“It’s been a very stressful time, isolating to the point of nearly going crazy,” she said.

Carol lives most of her life behind N95 masks and plastic face screens to protect herself from a potentially deadly infection.

Although Carol’s illness entitles her to a home care package, her fear of COVID-19 infection means she rarely takes advantage of it.

“I’ve just been cancelling them one after the other, which has been hard on me but there was a period when they wouldn’t even say whether their staff were vaccinated or boosted,” Carol said.

Routine medical trips to the Royal Melbourne Hospital have become “absolutely terrifying” ordeals as the rest of the country moves on from the pandemic.

“There are people everywhere without masks,” Carol said.

“I was walking into Coles one day, all masked up and screened, and three young guys came up to me and went ‘Oooh, look at you with all your stuff on’!

“People never cease to amaze me.”

For Carol, the complacency shown by the rest of the country has left her feeling invisible.

“What annoys me more than anything, particularly in the last month or two, the media and others are speaking of COVID in the past tense,” she said.

“And yet we’re having upwards of 20 people die a night, and they’re people like me.

“Those people, who could well be me, are just collateral damage. People don’t even bat an eyelid anymore.”

Lady, I don’t care about your neuroses. Your perception of your well-being doesn’t trump my right to get on with life, and it never should have. Get back into your bubble and stfu.

Experts, you can stfu, too. You’ve been dead wrong about just about everything Covid-related, and you continue to be wrong. No one should trust a word you say about, well, pretty much anything you purport to possess specialist knowledge of.

with the US election how come, with most of the money on Trump the thief in chief odds weren’t much higher

Odds are merely a reflection of where the punters money is.

If you really want to know who was “in the know” for the “big steal”, looking at the bookmakers books would be fascinating. As always, follow the money.

As an aside, it’s illegal for US citizens to punt on a US election. Therefore, you would have to look at the biggest US political betting market (the UK). That would be an interesting rabbit hole for someone to dive down. I’m a little surprised that investigators haven’t pursued it. If there were large amounts of US money wagered on the result, a clear offence has been committed.

It’s a bit like a jockey betting on the outcome of a race. It’s illegal for a reason.

I had $80k in mind too and thought, “What am I missing?”.
I reckon two things at play here:-
.1 He has spent hundreds of hours tinkering with it and has factored in his “high value mods” at full hourly rate; and/or
.2 A bloke in a pub told him that dickheads down South are paying totally over the odds and some “more money than sense Mexican” will fall for it; and/or
.3 He is a delusional Queenssslander.

Get back into your bubble and stfu.

Experts, you can stfu, too.

Spoke to a masked-up lady at church yesterday. Having just gone through a bevvy of cancer treatments, she is very immunocompromised. And her husband is about to go in for surgery, hence the mask. Didn’t stop her going to church or most activities during the week, she’s just trying to be careful with her health.

To me this approach is perfectly reasonable. We have to be aware that not everyone who chooses to wear a mask is a “mong in a mask”. Whether or not the masks actually work is a different issue.

Expecting everyone else to mask up because frightened is the mark of a selfish cry-bully.

Whether or not the masks work or whether or not and in what ways they are harmful must must first be a moot point before allowing that mask wearers, for whatever motives, are being reasonable – if reasonableness is to have foundation. In the meantime, masks are a control mechanism inimicable to questions of reason, and ‘safety’ rules.

Daily Mail has an article about police recruiting problems around the country. Comments are worth a look.

Naturally none of the police forces are thinking Vax mandates might be an issue.

Meanwhile the Courier Mail put up two articles, one by the CHO, talking about Covid deaths. The lack of comments is noticeable and they have since put up two other Covid articles which are less relevant. I think they are trying not to have articles with hundreds of negative comments.

The CHO did seem to rule out further mandates but made no comment on current ones.

We have to be aware that not everyone who chooses to wear a mask is a “mong in a mask”.

Absolutely agree. There are, of course, a small group of people who are more vulnerable to Covid than the vast majority of the population, and it is perfectly reasonable for them to make decisions that best ensure their health and well-being based upon their individual circumstances. The cautious shouldn’t be mocked for being cautious with regard to the way they choose to live their lives.

I would also add that sympathy and support should be extended to those who have overestimated the risk that Covid poses to them, and have taken extreme measures to protect themselves from this risk. These people have been subject over two years of never-ending catastrophising, gaslighting and worst-case-scenario prophesising from the media and government health agencies. It’s no wonder so many of them were terrified and remain terrified. And, as seen above, the ABC is constantly trying to get the Covid hysteria band back together.

With that said, a line needs to be drawn when a vulnerable individual or group demands others change their behaviour for what they claim to be their safety and protection. A return to universal mask mandates is the most common demand, and this needs to be countered with a firm negative, which it seems Mark Butler has done (to his credit).

And the hysterics deserve mockery. Look at this Carol lady’s photo – she’s standing in what is presumably her back garden, wearing her dressing gown and the full mask and facial screen get-up, demanding that everyone else cater to her needs. It’s wrong for the ABC to platform such people in an attempt to guilt the population back into draconian Covid restrictions, but she knows what she’s doing, too. Perhaps she inadvertently made herself into a comical figure. Well, tough. She’s going to be laughed at. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Albanese unveils jobs, skills summit
Sam King
SAM KING

Anthony Albanese has announced a commitment to boosting jobs with the unveiling of a jobs and skills summit due to take place in September.

“We intend to bring together business, unions, civil society groups, other levels of government, to discuss how, as we move forward, we can maximise benefits for the economy and industry,” the Prime Minister said.

With a focus on addressing a shortage of skilled workers, Mr Albanese said targeting overseas workers was a key focus.

“The government inherited, along with a long list of problems, a massive backlog in the visas. It is absurd that at a time of skills shortages, there have been people waiting for such a long period of time.

“We have a global labour market. We need to acknowledge that, and we need to make sure we have better pathways to a permanent presence in Australia for people to give us the skills we need.”

Haven’t we had one of these before?

Perhaps this time Boeing will let the engineers design the aircraft not the accountants.

Another popular myth.
That the avaricious accountants in McDonnell Douglas stormed the citadel in Seattle and burnt all Boeing’s flight safety guys at the stake.
I had extensive exposure to both organisations both before and after the takeover, and MD’s commitment to flight safety was uncompromising, to the point of tedium.
What really happened was that Boeing commercial developed a Fat, Dumb and Happy culture over decades, driven by three things:-
.1 their initial almost monopolistic hold over the large passenger aircraft market in the 1970’s and 1980’s;
.2 their influence over Congress; and
.3 finally, and most tragically, their hold over the FAA certification process.
This meant they were incredibly slow to react to innovations introduced by Airbus, notably fly-by-wire. In fact, they quietly rejoiced at the odd failure of the Airbus pilot-computer interface (eg AF447 stalling into the drink). I can remember Boeing pointedly talking about producing “pilot’s airplanes” at the time.
But when Airbus introduced the fuel efficient A319/A320neo range, the tide went out on Boeing and they were standing naked in ankle deep water.
They panicked.
They tried to wring one more upgrade out of the 737 but the low ground clearance for the monster new engines presented major problems. Problems which they sought to solve through fly-by-wire solutions without the wealth of corporate knowledge Airbus had in that area.
But here is the irony.
Guess who else had a long history in fly-by-wire technology, going back further than even Airbus?
Boeing Defense and Space division (or whatever they are called now), going right back to the original F/A 18’s produced by “the accountants” at MD in the 1980’s.
But Boeing Commercial and Boeing Defense hate each other with a passion, so that collaboration was never going to happen.
Again, pride goeth …

If the company survives this latest brain dead decision, that is.

And?
Are you suggesting commercial viability (or trumped up threats of it) should be a factor in certification decisions?

Amid panicky media stories about fruit and veges, a report from the supermarket (Coles).

It seems that the claims of dire shortages and skyrocketing prices are somewhat selective. Delicious mandarins were $3.50 a kilo. Avocados were a buck each.

As for the Brussels Sprouts Index, they were $14 a kilo, so more than the $12 this time last year, but not exactly the end of the world.

Frankly, if you can’t live without iceberg lettuce, that’s your problem, not mine.

OTOH, the restaurants and cafes I frequent have all put their prices up around 5% in the last month or so. I’m guessing that energy prices, and prices for things they can’t do without to maintain their menus, are responsible. Word is that coffee prices are one of the main culprits.

ask Bananaby why … he didn’t have a vasectomy after his girls were almost grown and his wife had said she was finished with having babies?

This raises an interesting point. We had a discussion with my wife about it recently (she agreed with me).
Why is it, that usually it’s the man who has to ensure he doesn’t produce any offspring anymore? I think it’s more logical to have a woman sterilised after “she’s finished with having babies”.
What if your wife dies (God forbid) and you re-marry in your 40-s? Your seed is still in good condition at this age. But because you’ve made a practically irreversible medical procedure you can’t have kids, even if your new wife wants them.

OTOH, the restaurants and cafes I frequent have all put their prices up around 5% in the last month or so.

Some restaurants in the US are now adding a 16% surcharge on top of the bill to cover inflation (denoted as a “kitchen surcharge” plus other descriptions).

Pity they wouldn’t call it a “Biden Surcharge” to hammer home the cause.

Republican supporting service stations should start advertising $2.41 per gallon gas (+ “Biden Surcharge”) on their advertising shingles. Customers might get a shock when they get their receipt and figure out it’s costing them $5 plus per gallon, and exactly who’s to blame for that.

OK.
Quick quiz for the armchair aircraft experts re the latest variant of the Boeing 737.
Is it:-
(A) a totally fucked up deathtrap designed at the behest of the MacDonnell Douglas accountants*; or
(B) a pretty good design just requiring a minor tweak to the Bing-Bong! software but the anally retentive regulators are standing in the way of it.
It can’t be both.
….
* Amazing the reach those St Louis accountants have. The Boeing-MacDonnell Douglas takeover was consummated in 1997. But they are still reaching out of their retirement homes and graves to twist the arms of the pure-at-heart Boeing engineers.

Invisible, except to hundreds of people in supermarkets at any one time.

And to a national media audience.

The irony of her situation is that the measures she’s taken to prevent herself from Covid are likely to further suppress her immune response to the virus if she ever catches it. Shutting yourself off from the world tends to result in a reduced vitamin D intake, a lack of exercise and poor mental health outcomes. If Carol’s in this boat, it’s hard to think of a worse position to be in if avoiding serious illness and death is the objective.

Another irony is that, if Carol does end up dying prematurely, the likelihood is that it will be from her cancer returning, rather than from Covid-related illness. She’s wrong to say Covid is mainly killing people like her. No, it’s mainly ‘killing’ elderly people who are of an age when death typically occurs. I’ve used scare-quotes because, in these instances, we don’t know whether these deaths were caused by Covid, as our governments don’t release this information.

After all, if they started doing that, people would start getting ‘complacent’. It has to be complacency; it couldn’t possibly be a reasonable (and, frankly, well overdue) recalculation of risk in light of new information and changed circumstances.

Too often people feel that whoever is elected, the answer is more government. By promising too much and trying to solve every problem, politicians don’t reassure and inspire, they disappoint and drive disillusion. More taxes. More rules and regulations. And ever cheaper borrowing to keep government afloat no matter the cost to savers or the wider economy.

Instead, we need strong but limited government focused on the essentials.

Lower taxes yes, but to boost growth and productivity, and accompanied by tight spending discipline.

Without wikifying the whole thing, Joyce has at least two kids with the new one – so it’s hardly a case of ‘Aha! Now you’re pregnant!’ The ‘repercussions’ were in all likelihood planned. Joyce could still have kids. The new misso wanted them. Nothing to see here.

As for ‘repercussions’ to ex-Mrs Joyce et al, this was widely discussed some time ago.

1. It is entirely likely ex-BJ was ‘distant’ from BJ for many, many years;
2. His (adult) daughters are said to be cool with it;
3. Ex-BJ milked the publicity for all it was worth before being forgotten;
4. Nobody cares;

Problems with Elbow’s proposed 2020 Summit rehash:

-It has already been done and resulted in nothing,
-You can’t invite everyone and you will always piss someone off by not inviting them,
-Decisions “by committee” rarely work,
-You can’t take the politics out of it (for example, will AGW sceptics be invited?),
-The summit is designed to fail as is looking at new jobs = more spending,
-The summit is designed to fail as is NOT looking at red tape, excessive regulation, taxation,
-Any real “reforms” resulting from the summit won’t be considered by Treasury until 2023.

The only thing that I recall coming out of KRudd’s summit was the Cash for Clunkers idea. But, given the price of clunkers in the market today, that could be a real money maker for proponents! 😛

None of us know what goes on in a marriage and I think that the Beetroot’s marriage was long dead, particularly in the physical department.

No, my disappointment with Beetroot is over his lack of balls when dealing with Morrison over net zero emissions. Beetroot and the Nationals capitulated faster than a speeding bullet. He should have stood firm and told Morrison that he he went down the “net zero” route, the Nationals would walk.

yes I am. Although I wouldn’t call it semi-rural. Although only 45 minutes from a large country town, I am fairly isolated and becoming connected has been a nightmare. Thank God for Maters’ tip on Starlink.

No equestrian until I have the house sorted and the yards and sheds built for the pet goat and my beloved poultry. Maybe a pony next year.

I know I am tempting fate but, I reckon the rain could hold off for a few weeks.

Wow, so Mr Roberts will be due quite the hefty sum!

In Well, You Voted For It news:

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the government is aiming for “a future made in Australia” with more manufacturing here.

“That’s one of the lessons of the pandemic – is that we will remain vulnerable as long as we’re at the end of the supply chains,” Mr Albanese said in a media conference on Monday afternoon.

He said more manufacturing can be done in Australia with the development of clean energy.

“We can make more things here driven by that, with high value, high-skilled jobs being created.”

Apparently, it’s going to be a defense, NBN, trains, trams, and ferry-led recovery.

With cheap and abundant renewable energy, our manufacturing sector will create jobs for Australians.

And aliens will come to Earth and give us things…

Jason Roberts, who was convicted of the murders of Sgt. Gary Silk and S/C Rodney Miller in 1998 has walked free today after a jury found him not guilty.

Knowing what we know now about the workings of Victoria Police, could it be or is there a possibility that Roberts was ‘bricked’ (set up with false/bogus charges) to showcase how good Vic. Pol. are at clearing offences – particularly one as important and as significant as this cold-blood execution of two officers?

Look at this Carol lady’s photo – she’s standing in what is presumably her back garden, wearing her dressing gown and the full mask and facial screen get-up, demanding that everyone else cater to her needs. It’s wrong for the ABC to platform such people in an attempt to guilt the population back into draconian Covid restrictions……

Indeed. I was a little surprised she mentioned going to Coles (rather than ordering online and home contactless delivery) and although she is entitled to home care, her fear of covid means she rarely takes advantage of it. She was quoted in the ABC that routine medical trips to the Royal Melbourne Hospital have become “absolutely terrifying” ordeals as the rest of the country moves on from the pandemic.

There are people everywhere without masks” Carol said. That’s true but not in hospitals were they are still mandatory. So, assuming Carol is travelling by private car to the hospital, she wouldn’t come into contact with unmasked people.

The ABC tries to tug at the heart-strings by saying that “With COVID-19 still casting a spectre over every Australian town and city, Carol has found herself cut off from the rest of the world” but we are also informed that Carol has ovarian cancer and, possibly worse, systemic lupus which means that her immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue. Those immunocompromised to that extent can be at mortal risk from viral, bacterial and fungal infections from countless sources. Even the food they eat can represent a risk. Yet, Carol will go to Coles and whinge that people are not wearing masks.

The article also states that succumbing to the virus after her long battle with cancer would feel unfair to Carol. “I’ve fought cancer for years…….I don’t want to die from the bloody virus.” Well yes and I feel sorry for Carol, and I’m sure she doesn’t want to live her remaining time like a hermit, but the truth is that sometimes people are dealt a shitty hand of cards and she is one of those people.

Expecting that the rest of Australia revert to the mask mandates is silly and futile but a classic vehicle for the ABC to hitch their wagon.

Part 1.
The re-trial of Roberts was because of Police ignoring (or actively covering up) alibis or exculpatory witnesses.
That could get awkward and might might attract compensation.
If it had simply been “new evidence” compensation probably isn’t as likely.

Completely out of Control in Vaucluse

A Vaucluse woman believed she “was under attack” from a bizarre litany of enemies, including Russian spies, x-ray beams and communist assassins, when she removed a series of CCTV cameras from her neighbour’s home, a court heard.

Katherine Peterson, 51, appeared at Downing Centre Local Court on Friday having previously pleaded guilty to one charge of larceny.

The court heard Peterson stole three Arlo CCTV cameras, valued at $738, from a neighbouring Derby St, Vaucluse, property on March 12.

According to agreed police facts, the owner of these recently purchased cameras placed the first one at the entrance of her driveway around 6pm on March 12.

Just over an hour later, this woman received a phone notification alerting her to motion and the camera’s removal.

Ten minutes later, Peterson’s neighbour installed a second camera in the same position, and soon received a similar notification on her phone, a court heard.

At 9pm, with both cameras now removed and a new one in place, the neighbour watched the live stream until she saw Peterson remove this camera and flee across their quiet Vaucluse street to her neighbouring home, the court heard.

The following day, police entered Peterson’s home to say she was depicted on CCTV committing an offence, a court heard.

After this, Peterson paused before stating, “I’ll get you the cameras, but I was under attack,” court documents state.

She returned the operational and undamaged cameras to police, a court heard.

According to documents tendered to Downing Local Court, Peterson had experienced several interactions with police after suffering from episodes of mental illness.

“(Peterson) appears to be under the impression that there are spies in her street spying on her and that she is being attacked … (she) is clearly suffering from an undiagnosed mental health condition and is not in a clear state of mind,” court documents state.

“(After Peterson returned the cameras), she spoke about numerous topics such as communism, Russian spies, assassins, X-ray beams and even the different races of people surrounding her spying on her,” court documents state.

Earlier this year, Peterson appeared via videolink at Waverley Local Court and uttered the bizarre words “it’s actually a Chinese box” when the Optus 5G mobile phone towers on the Vaucluse street were referenced in court.

This episode relates to separate allegations, where police charged Peterson in connection with three counts of attempting to ignite Optus 5G mobile phone towers in Vaucluse between October 2021 and April of this year.

On Friday, at Downing Centre Local Court, Magistrate Michael Barko said Peterson clearly suffers from paranoia and delusion.

“She believed they were all out to get her,” Mr Barko said, also referencing the 5G phone towers Peterson believed were installed by the Chinese government.

This charge of larceny first came before the court on April 29 and Peterson entered a plea of guilty.

On Friday, Mr Barko dismissed the matter on mental health grounds, with the condition Peterson is to comply with any community treatment orders she is assigned.

I expect the greengrocers buy direct from the growers (possibly family in some cases) bypassing the central markets altogether. It is no different from any spot/contract market. You give up some spot price windfalls for contract volume certainty. Over in WA the Spudshed guy is the master of moving up the supply chain, although their business structure was also designed to get around some historical retail shopping hours laws as well.
