It’s interesting to note how movies etc have made mention of viruses, vaccines and pandemics in the pre-Covid era. In the Netflix series Casual, season 1 from 2018, they briefly joke how no one in Los Angeles gets the shots. So much for the anti-vax movement there now. Oh how times have changed.

Good point by John about define an Aborigine.

It seems PM going to announce the referendum is going to be a simple Yes or No question as to whether the Voice should go ahead. With no details of what that will entail.

Shouldn’t they at least work out the definition of Aborigine first so we know who the Voice will represent and who gets to vote for its members.

The current Aboriginal leadership seems overwhelmingly left leaning politically. If the Voice can have an impact on or even delay legislation you can guarantee it will not favour the policies of the right. If a Coalition Government is in power the Voice will in my view be another form of government opposition that will be weaponised against them.

If the Labor Government can’t tell us the details it is because they know we won’t like it. Don’t trust them.

Have decided to be even more annoying than usual, and ask why there is no rest-stop for Teddy Sheean VC on the Hume Highway. There are for the other 100 VCs. (Actually must check if BRS has one.)

Wrote to Services NSW a week ago and got a reference number. Silence since.

Teal disease spreads.

Because the Tories Weren’t Climate Crazy Enough! New ‘Conservative’ ‘Climate Party’ Launches in Britain (29 Jul)

Seemingly not satisfied with how utterly enamoured with the green agenda the Tory Party already is, the so-called “conservative” “Climate Party” has been launched in Britain with the reported aim of stealing seats from Conservative backbenchers who aren’t completely on board with the push for Net Zero.

The new party emerges onto the scene despite the Conservative Party’s almost completely lockstep approach to the Green Agenda, with both of the candidates vying to become the next leader of the party, as well as Britain’s next Prime Minister, openly declaring that they will back the current government’s Net Zero plan.

But this is seemingly not enough for Climate Party leader Ed Gemmell, who — according to an article by The Guardian published on Thursday — believes that Tory candidates for leader have not been enthusiastic enough in committing themselves to Net Zero.

Net Zero is not enough it must be Sub Zero! Or something. Someone should tell our Teals to lift their game.

“Anthony Albanese’s Indigenous voice: simple yes or no”

Firstly, this is Labor doing what it does best, deliberately trivialising the question in order to orchestrate an outcome they want.

Secondly, watch the emotional and ideological extortion begin. You think you saw ideological extortion during the SSM debate? LOL, think again and get ready, what we saw five years ago will not compare to what we’re about to endure. Anyone who dares question and/or critique the “Voice” will be smeared as a waaaaaaciiiiist including Aboriginal women like Jacinta Price.

Thirdly, watch the stupid effing Liberals cave, capitulate, wave their arms arounds and do nothing to fight this sinister nonsense. There are NO ideological warriors left in the Liberal Party, it won’t be a repeat of 1999 with the Republic referendum when there were men and women like Abbott and Bronnie Bishop, they’re gonski, Maggot Turdbull and Scumbag Morrison ideologically purged the Liberal party of all dissidents and fighters.

Finally, vote NO. I will be. I will not counter, not for one second, the scenario where Australians be constitutionally divided on race, meanwhile, of course, Aboriginal children and women will continue to be bashed, raped and murdered. But who cares about them.

Oh and lastly, I’m indigenous too. Where’s my voice?

There shall be a body, to be called the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice may make representations to parliament and the executive government on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The parliament shall, subject to this constitution, have power to make laws with respect to the composition, functions, powers and procedures of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.

Industry profitability collapses by 70%! China’s real estate crisis is dragging down steel mills
The debt crisis in China’s real estate industry has not only spawned a large number of unfinished buildings or rotten tail buildings as they’re called in China, but the crisis has also affected its upstream steel industry.
People may have two general impressions of China’s steel industry. First is its size. It’s the world’s largest, scale-wise; second is its overcapacity. The latter is a headache for the world, as China floods the market with cheap steel it has shut down steel mills in other countries and left workers unemployed. For nearly a decade, the U.S. and Europe have been fighting the CCP over this issue.

Hi Tintarella….reporting in on that project.

I eventually spoke to Transport Management Centre NSW, who said yes, they have my query as to “where is the Sheean VC rest stop?” and they are “working on a response”. I guess wait a week and see.

I note – thanks also to Cat comments – that the rest stops on the Hume are for “the Australian Victoria Cross recipients from World War II onwards“. Seems to have been set up by “The Remembrance Driveway Council Ltd” who are a charity registered with the ACNC.

If you follow links etc you end up back in the NSW Transport people, but it does appear The Remembrance Driveway Council is a charity registered with the ACNC and is trying to raise half a million to build a small park on the Driveway to the Afghanistan VC blokes.

Interesting. I guess that means any park will have to commemorate BRS so that’s good. However I bet if his trial result is a negative it will go into a tailspin.

I guess too they will be in a quandary about Sheean seeing as he is WWII. The usual result will be that Transport NSW will say it’s the charity’s job, and they will say the reverse.

Maybe waiting a week or so and seeing how we go would be a good idea.

Anthony Albanese will put a “simple” yes-or-no question to a referendum to create an Indigenous voice in the Constitution to make recommendations on Aboriginal issues to parliament but with politicians retaining the power to define its functions.

As one of the founders of the Constitution (and later one of the inaugural justices of the High Court), Richard O’Connor said this:

“we should be very careful of every word that we put in this Constitution, and that we should have no word in it which we do not see some reason for. Because there can be no question that in time to come, when this Constitution has to be interpreted, every word will be weighed and an interpretation given to it; and by the use now of what I may describe as idle words which we have no use for, we may be giving a direction to the Constitution which none of us now contemplate. Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to see that there is some reason for every clause and every word that goes into this Constitution.”

Another founder, Sir Joseph Carruthers, said this:

“Now, the danger of a clause of this character, the meaning of which is vague, is that the future perhaps creates difficulties. The Federal High Court would wrestle with this clause to give it some meaning, the Federal Parliament would wrestle with it to give it some meaning, and we might have it tortured into an effect which this Convention never contemplated. No one can doubt that the language of the clause is vague and ambiguous. The Constitution should be so framed that he who runs may read, that there should be no pitfalls on account of ambiguous phraseology.”

No, this stuff is far too important for a blasé ‘yes’ or ‘no’ vote, based on no greater detail than just a generalised brain fart from politicians.

HB Bear has it right when he suggests that this would be a blank cheque. The danger signs should be flashing in everyone’s mind.

The Aboriginals fought to get specific reference to them removed from the Constitution in 1967, because it was supposedly rascist (which it was, but to protect their culture). Now they want racially specific clauses reinserted?

Bloody hell!

Once it enters the environment, the nitrogen in urea can trigger a spectrum of ecological impacts known as the “nitrogen cascade.” Under certain chemical conditions, and in the presence of particular microbes, urea can break down to form gases of oxidized nitrogen. Sorry, punters. The establishment media, including The Australian locally, just doesn’t do stories that its staff don’t like, like the scandal over the ineffectiveness of Kung Flu vaccines and their danger to young people or the theft of the 2020 US presidential election, still the biggest sleeper story in US politics.

If you want real news and information, you’ll have to figure out who you can trust on the internet and go there (or watch Tucker Carlson on Fox News, who nevertheless still won’t touch the 2020 election fraud).

Journalism isn’t dead, but its heartbeat is barely detectable because 90%+ of journalists are happy being shills for Big Government and Big Pharma.

And now Labor Starts to Screw Australians – Wonder if the Youngsters understand it affects them?

Tax landowners to repay COVID-19 debt, ANU study says

A federal land tax of 0.1 per cent imposed annually on mainly wealthier and older property owners would be the best way to repay about $500 billion of government debt accumulated during the COVID-19 pandemic, a new study says.

Other viable options are to reduce concessions for capital gains tax (CGT), introduce an inheritance tax, or a tighter means test for the age pension by assessing the value of a retiree’s principal place of residence, says an Australian National University research paper released to The Australian Financial Review.

The ANU paper sets an objective of over 33 years reducing federal government debt back to sustainable levels of about 30 per cent of GDP, after it blew out to more than 40 per cent, or $1 trillion, in the pandemic.

The least economically damaging way to raise more revenue to reduce debt would be via a flat federal tax on the unimproved value of land, said Robert Breunig, chairman of tax policy at the ANU’s Tax and Transfer Policy Institute.

Most of the government debt accumulated during COVID-19 came from lockdowns and other health restrictions designed to protect mainly older people who own most of the assets, such as property, he said.

“There is an intergenerational equity layer,” Professor Breunig said.

“Older people were most at risk at dying from COVID-19 and all this money we flooded into the economy has helped the asset holders who are typically older people.”

“So putting a tax on assets that are mostly held by old people is fair.”

“Otherwise, putting a tax on personal income puts more of the burden on young working people who are going to have to bear all this government debt going forward.”

The proposed federal land tax would raise almost $8 billion a year from a 0.1 per cent rate on the unimproved value of land – that is the value of property excluding houses and other buildings. Typically, this is about half the value of a residential property.

For example, a residential property with a house bought for $1 million would have an unimproved land value of approximately $500,000. Hence, a 0.1 per cent land tax would cost about $500 a year.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers warned in his economic update on Thursday that Australia has incurred “a trillion dollars of debt that will take generations to pay off”.

“We know that the debt burden left to us – the highest level as a share of the economy since the aftermath of the second world war, with deficits stretching beyond the decade – is growing heavier because the impact of higher interest rates on repayments,” Dr Chalmers said.

Labor ruled out imposing new taxes during the May federal election campaign.

The Rudd Labor government’s 2010 tax review led by then-Treasury secretary Ken Henry also proposed a broad-based land tax on property owners.

Another “reasonable” option explored by the ANU co-authors Trevor Rose and Professor Breunig was increasing the 10 per cent GST to 11 per cent.

However, this ranked behind the preferred option of a low, federal land tax, and the secondary options of including the principal residence in the pension assets test, introducing an inheritance tax, reducing the CGT exemption for the principal residence and cutting the CGT discount for other assets.

“Increasing the GST is not that different to increasing income taxes for working people,” Professor Breunig said.

“Older asset owners is who we want to tax.”

Professor Breunig said it was better to increase land taxes land because raising income taxes and corporate taxes would discourage work and investment in Australia.

“We tax income and endeavour too heavily, and we don’t tax land nearly enough.”

“Raising personal income taxes can lead to more use of incorporation and trusts and other tax minimisation.

“Land can’t shift overseas, and a land tax is difficult to avoid.”

At present, state and local governments impose similar land taxes for council rates, investment properties and business premises.

Professor Breunig said the imposition of a federal land tax could ultimately be used in negotiations with the states to eliminate their stamp duties on property transactions.

“The reality is the states are not using the land tax base effectively.”

The NSW government has explored phasing out stamp duties in favour of a land tax, but has so far limited the option to first home buyers. The ACT is about halfway through a 20-year plan to phase out stamp duty for an annual property tax based on the unimproved land value.

The ANU paper focuses exclusively on the revenue side of the budget to repay debt.

“This is not because we don’t think there shouldn’t be expenditure reductions as well,” Professor Breunig said.

Isn’t that nice of Professor Breunig living in the Teat Sucking ANU ACT Public Service Land causing a majority of Taxes

There is a US dress code for executions:

An Alabama reporter was forced to change her outfit while attending an execution after a member of staff at the Alabama Department of Corrections said her skirt was too short.

Ivana Hrynkiw Shatara had been set to attend the execution of Joe Nathan James Jr, in Atmore, Alabama, on July 28, when she was told her outfit was inappropriate.

James, 50, was convicted and sentenced to death for the 1994 shooting death of his former girlfriend, Faith Hall, 26.

The reporter, from AL.com, claims that she had worn the skirt on more than one occasion to executions at William C. Holman Correctional Facility with no issues.

After she was forced to change into a fellow member of the press’ waders, the official at the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) reportedly told her that her ‘open toe heels’ were also inappropriate.

Shatara then had to run to her car and put on tennis shoes, before being allowed back in to continue to do her job.

DON’T VOTE FOR A BLANK CHEQUE

Today Anthony Albanese is unveiling his referendum question to establish an Indigenous Voice, according to the Ulu?u Statement.
He wants the Australian people to give him and other Federal politicians a blank cheque: for the parliament in Canberra to be given power to determine the powers and role of the Indigenous Voice as it sees fit.

This could mean anything. Under a Labor Greens Government it could mean:
* winding back private property rights with an extension of Native Title under a rewriting of the Mabo settlement.
* a full scale Aboriginal Treaty the Australian people never agreed to.
* the rewriting of Australian history in our schools according to the Left interpretation of a vicious, genocidal nation.
* automatically moving Australia Day away from 26 January.
* a new Australian flag based on Indigenous design.
* increased Aboriginal welfare entitlements, further diminishing the pride and self-reliance of a once proud people, further entrenching their culture in welfare dependency, family violence, substance abuse and squalor.
* a repeat of the failed ATSIC body from the 1990s, which was riddled with nepotism, corruption and wasted taxpayers money.

The Albanese plan for the parliament to sort out all the Indigenous Voice details is a plan for unlimited power and radical reform.
This is a very dangerous time in our national history.
The Australian people should determine who is in our parliaments, like the recent election of Senator Jacinta Price, who has already spoken out powerfully against virtue signaling and in favour of practical solutions in Aboriginal affairs.
Jacinta opposes the Indigenous Voice and so should we.

They can’t get the proles to say yes to the model they want so they’ll sneak it in after the fact with a “do you support a republic yes/no” vote.

How could that possibly be constitutional?

In the same way Roe v Wade was constitutional. Because everyone will treat it as if it was.

A new way to change the constitution, by regulation! HC will lap it up.

Anyone still say that they’re not engineering a famine?

Billionaire-funded eco group quietly taking farmland out of production in rural America (29 Jul, via Climate Depot)

The American Prairie (AP), a conservation project in Montana, has quietly scooped up more than 450,000 acres of land with the help of its billionaire donors and the federal government.

Opponents of AP have focused their ire in particular on one of the group’s chief proposals to release wild bison onto the property, giving visitors “a chance to witness the majestic species.”

“We don’t think of it as non-productive use,” Geddes told Fox News Digital. “Those bison are playing very productive roles. It’s absolutely true they’re not a commercial livestock production, but they’re productive in the sense of what they do for that prairie ecosystem.”

“Yeah, some of that land is going out of production, but land is going out of production everywhere, all the time,” he continued.

It’s interesting that Shut The Gate against oil and gas development is now becoming Shut The Gate against agriculture and livestock production. Greens never stop, they just keep on coming like terminators.

Wokeism is the next step of the war on those that refuse to accept the blatant cognitive dissonance of the left. Nowhere is this highlighted better than the left’s new mantra of diversity, inclusiveness and equity. This epitomises the cognitive dissonance of the left as a new reality that must be accepted by all. Equity is the idea of marxist sameness which is the opposite of diversity and inclusiveness is the glue that binds this cognitive dissonance, where people are forced to accept sheer nonsense as fact and reality.

We all know too well that this new mantra is entirely exclusive and will not accept anyone but pure true-believers in its ranks. It seeks to constantly redefine woke purity and exclude the unclean. Whether that is the un-vaccinated being excluded or those that won’t kowtow to the equity of perversion to moral behaviour, wokeness is anything but inclusive.

The left is on a path of destruction of the West in order to purge dissenters and build its gaian-techno-utopia.

Skimpies return to Diggers & Dealers despite shocking inquiry into sexual misconduct at WA mine sites
Amber Lilley
Kalgoorlie Miner
Sat, 30 July 2022 2:00AM

After a scathing inquiry into FIFO rapes and sexual misconduct, mining executives head to Diggers & Dealers on Monday where stamping out sexism and making workplaces better for female employees will no doubt be hot topics for discussion.

Perhaps over a beer served by women wearing only their underwear — the more revealing the better.

To anyone outside Kalgoorlie-Boulder it makes no sense. Especially in a horror year when companies have been forced to scramble to clean up their act at sexist mine sites.

But skimpies — lingerie-clad barmaids and waitresses — are as much a part of the town and the Diggers & Dealers experience as talk about tenements, drill holes and financing deals.

Many skimpies next week will be sort of FIFOs themselves, flown in from Perth specifically to serve the influx of conference delegates.

Also part of the tradition is heavy drinking and living it large at day’s end — in stark contrast to remote mining sites where four-beer limits are now in place to try to improve behaviour, largely for the sake of women employees.

Menzies in 1963 had government spending of around 20% to GDP for all levels of government.

We had a bigger military, well funded state schools and CSPs at university. We also had welfare, but not in the same format as now.

Anything exceeding 20% of GDP is wasteful for a social democrat.

The solution is simple: cut spending and cap spending to that 20% level. At the same time implement tax reforms and give real and significant tax cuts.

Our massive (all of) government debt could be paid back over two Federal election cycles if not one.

Interest rates wouldn’t have to go up much, an aggressive anti inflation monetary policy could be followed and at the same time, we could have realistic interest rates without sacrificing marginal borrowers.

This never used to be controversial.

The GFC and COVID made voters and politicians fall in love with vulgar Keynesianism and outright crap like MMT.

In addition to the simple Yes/No question, Uncle Tony is proposing the following wording changes to the constitution:

There shall be a body, to be called the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice may make representations to parliament and the executive government on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The parliament shall, subject to this constitution, have power to make laws with respect to the composition, functions, powers and procedures of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.

Apart from a nominal entry in the Constitution, the only difference between this and ATSIC is that if a notoriously corrupt “Voice” organisation is abolished by Parliament, something else (an aboriginal senator from the Northern Territory?) would need to be put in place.

But there was something else established to replace ATSIC (so forgettable I cant remember its title) to replace ATSIC. What happens to it?

Zelensky Told Americans That His Country Should Be More Important To Them Than Their Own

29 JULY 2022

It’s understandable why people would be offended by a foreign leader telling them to place his country’s interests above their own and to not care about inflation. It’s beyond disrespectful after they’ve already suffered enough to help him. Zelensky isn’t ever happy, however, unless he hears about more wealth being redistributed from Americans to Ukrainians.

The megalomaniac leader of Ukraine told Americans that they should support his country more than their own, literally arguing that “inflation is nothing, COVID is nothing”, and that they should all continue sacrificing in order to help Kiev defeat Russia. This isn’t so-called “Russian propaganda” but a direct quote from the interview that Zelensky just gave to Piers Morgan. Americans will understandably be upset by it since he comes off as unappreciative of the tens of billions of dollars that they’ve given him.

In the eyes of the Ukrainian leader, nothing is more important in the world than his country, and those who disagree are supposedly doing Russia’s bidding. Nobody is allowed to claim that their country should come first since Zelensky said that Ukraine is fighting for everyone. The problem, however, is that many people don’t think the same way. Even among those who support Kiev, they’re rightly more concerned about more immediate issues such as inflation, COVID, their families, and whatever else.

That’s unacceptable for Zelensky though since the US-led Western Mainstream Media’s (MSM) ongoing information operations aimed at portraying him as a “secular god” have clearly gotten to his head. He’s so tone deaf that he didn’t even realize how angry his Vogue photoshoot would make many Americans, who naively assumed that he was suffering alongside his compatriots and not living a life of luxury that’s presumably partially paid for by foreign taxpayers.

Westerners are making less than before as a result of the current recession and they’re struggling to keep up with inflation, yet Zelensky wants them to continue sacrificing in order to help his country.

Blank cheque indeed. This smells a lot like the referendum fiasco, where people sort of went ‘ah, why not?’ when privately asked about being a republic.

Then all the freeloaders piled on with different versions of republicanism – each wanting the version that enriched them, specifically, the most.

Eventually the cries of ‘My version! No, my version!’ got so loud that ordinary punters woke up to the potential scamming and decided that until those people got their shit together, there’d be no republic for anyone.

Garbage In, Garbage Out: 96% of NOAA Temperature Stations Fail ‘Uncorrupted Placement’ Standards

A study that investigated the placement of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) temperature stations found that 96 percent of the facilities used to measure heat failed to meet the agency’s own “uncorrupted placement” standards.

Research for the study shows the 96 percent corruption is because the stations’ measurements are tainted by the effects of urbanization – or heat produced because of their close proximity to asphalt, machinery, and other heat-producing, heat-trapping, or heat-accentuating objects.

“With a 96 percent warm-bias in U.S. temperature measurements, it is impossible to use any statistical methods to derive an accurate climate trend for the U.S.” Heartland Institute Senior Fellow Anthony Watts, who directed the study, said is the study announcement distributed to the press. “Data from the stations that have not been corrupted by faulty placement show a rate of warming in the United States reduced by almost half compared to all stations.”

This is what you get when councils ignore rates, roads and rubbish while putting pride flags up everywhere and declaring climate emergencies.

While enriching themselves through various dodgy deals such as development approvals.

Beryl Gladyschlocklian was eventually brought down by her erstwhile boyfriend’s corrupt dealings with my beloved local council – those dodgy deals were what brought Maguire to the attention of ICAC in the first place.

WH Response Is Beyond Pathetic After Chinese Threaten to Shoot Pelosi out of the Sky

That kind of threat against the Speaker of the House of the United States can’t be tolerated. I may not like Pelosi, but you even try to do something like that and you should get squashed like a bug with all the power that we can muster. Talk about a way to make Americans come together on the same page.

Americans from both sides of the aisle on social media came out to stomp this fool and tell China off for even daring to tweet this.

Hey
@TwitterSafety

@TwitterSupport
, just wanted to point this Tweet out that literally threatens the life of an elected official.

As of now, Twitter hasn’t whacked the tweet. President Donald Trump can’t tweet, but apparently, a CCP propagandist can threaten the Speaker of the House, and that’s just ducky.

So, what is the Biden Administration doing about such a specific threat against the Speaker? It necessitates a strong response that brooks no confusion that they would suffer dire consequences–and that even making the threat should have consequences.

Fox’s Peter Doocy asked White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, and her response was just pathetic.

She said that she couldn’t speak to Pelosi’s schedule, “We’re just not going to speak on her schedule.” She called it a “hypothetical.” “I’m not going to speak to a hypothetical,” KJP declared.

Are you kidding me? Maybe Pelosi’s trip isn’t determined yet, but the threat isn’t hypothetical. The threat is what’s being asked about. China just threatened our Speaker of the House, and you refuse to comment?

but KJP and Biden can’t get it together to even defend our interests? We’re not even talking about a 3:00 a.m. call; they can’t even respond appropriately in the middle of the day, when presumably he’s awake.

This is bad. This is a weakness on a level that’s hard to believe, and the Chinese will take note. That’s not a good thing, particularly for Taiwan. We saw Biden demonstrating that kind of weakness right before Ukraine was invaded.

Mrs Beetroot has written a good piece in today Daily Terror…

“Vikki Campion: Thanks Bill Shorten, mothers aren’t ‘birthing parents’, they’re mothers

It took a moderate former trade union official to preserve the word ‘mother’ and bring some sanity to the ‘birthing parent’ debate. Bill Shorten sorted it like a boss. Maybe Manly should give him a call, writes Vikki Campion.

Why did it take a moderate former trade union official and ex Labor leader to show real leadership and shut down an otherwise bruising debate on whether we can use the word “mother” after birthing a child?

For every woman that has gone through the pain of childbirth, it is something we are owed.

Yet under the former Coalition government, a trial Services Australia form ended up replacing “mother” with “birth parent”.

Conservatives were cheering Government Services Minister Bill Shorten and scratching their heads as to why a Labor Minister had to fix a problem the Coalition allowed under their watch.

He reverted to the original form, which has three options, including “other”, where you write what you want to be.

In one swift move, it allows the less than 60 people who have transitioned and birthed to have their identity without forcing that same identity as “birth parent” on the hundreds of thousands of mums who want a card saying “Happy Mother’s Day” and don’t want to be recognised as clinical birthing objects.

Ideologically vapid platitudes start at the top, as demonstrated at Senate Estimates earlier this year where Australia’s top health bureaucrats were in contortions trying to explain what a woman was.

Job applications should be gender-neutral, but in the miracle of childbirth, let us have something as amazing as being a mother.

The good thing about the return to cabinet of long-time politicians such as Mr Shorten is that as they are elected by the people, they understand, as a Minister, they have the ultimate authority.

They are the boss.

Weak ministers are run by their departments. Strong ministers run their departments. In one fell swoop, Shorten showed respect for tolerance in making an administrative decision restoring a status quo that had existed for years and shutting down an otherwise acrimonious and pointless controversy.

A strong Minister is not ruled by a hidden subcommittee of factional warriors poking their ideas into a minster’s office that they would not dare ventilate on talkback radio in their local seat.

Many people in the former Coalition government thought this “wink, wink, nod, nod” to identity politics would save them and they are now looking for other jobs after being voted out in May.

So many in elected positions misunderstand this most fundamental thing about politics – that you don’t have to be popular, you have to be strong. The history of politics in all countries is written about strong leaders. Populists are often dismissed, disregarded and even discounted as pejorative.

Interestingly, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese so far has enough confidence in his ministers that he expects them to make their own decisions in their portfolios.

He has not come into government as the lone ranger because he has a cabinet who has largely served over cabinet portfolios before and he respects them enough to trust what they do. Arming them with the ability to do their jobs, he has allowed himself time to represent Australia overseas without the same heat that was applied to Scott Morrison.

But he also hasn’t been haunted by miserable ghosts like Malcolm Turnbull polluting his every move. I could not have imagined Turnbull helping Morrison, the way Shorten did Albanese.

Once again we see an acknowledgement that the former “Liberal” government was useless, utterly useless, in fighting culture wars.

The real cost of government is the cost of spending, regulation, deadweight losses of taxation and interest on borrowing.

It is easily over 55% of GDP.

probably more, that’s only the immediate impact

you are forgetting the negative impact on initiative and innovation and investment, all of which reduces society’s ability and capacity to generate future wealth and prosperity, and will reduce living standards compared to what it could have been.

Further to Vikki’s words…

“Many people in the former Coalition government thought this “wink, wink, nod, nod” to identity politics would save them and they are now looking for other jobs after being voted out in May.”

That many in the former Coalition government, aka Karma Sharma, Dr Katie “I love Obama” Allen, Rent Zimmerboy, Fiona “call the police on constituents” Martin, along with their grotesque NSW buddy, Matt Green Kean, actively participated in the smearing and denigrating of Katherine Deves, calling her a transphobe and bigot.

You know, there were some silver linings on 21 May 2022, Keneally’s loss and the mass execution of the aforementioned far-left progressives from the Liberal Party. Sure, there’s still some scum remaining, Birmingham, Archer, Fletcher and Bragg, but there numbers have been severely depleted and they’re wounded.

Vicki doesn’t understand how the parliamentary Labor Party is run.

The unions, via the factions in the caucus, determine who’ll get the portfolios and whether they keep them. Elbow, who is neither a Whitlam nor a Hawke, or even a Rudd, doesn’t have enough of a personal mandate to interfere too much without making destabilising waves .

For years the average wholesale price was somewhere between $30 and $60 per megawatt hour for electricity on the Australian national grid. But for the entire 2,184 hours of quarter two this year, we were paying an average price of $264 per megawatt hour. G. K. Chesterton….

“In the matter of reforming things, as distinct from deforming them, there is one plain and simple principle; a principle which will probably be called a paradox. There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, ‘I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.’ To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: ‘If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.”

Think of these words whenever someone talks about the “Voice” or the “Republic”, because as with SSM, if Australians vote yes, there will be consequences and those consequences will not be benign.
