Clearly the Europeans have always been aware of their vulnerability to the possibility of Russia turning off the gas.
I’m guessing that the average European had no idea where there “heating” was coming from and didn’t care until they were told it might not be available shortly! .. like the rest of us .. did any of us think about coal fired power plants until we were told what will happen once they aren’t available …

Interesting article, over on “Quadrant” about Bob Hawke – the “Little Aussie Battler”, remember him? and his links to a certain businessman..

The closest friendship Bob Hawke formed was with businessman Peter Abeles in the 1970s. He provided Hawke with financial support, paid his bills, bailed him out of gambling debts, and supplied him with cars, drinks and women (736).

This essay, drawn from Bramston’s research, spells out what that caption implies: Hawke in various phases of his career was a kept man of a dodgy business tycoon:

? Abeles also paid Hawke’s mortgage and his children’s private school fees (289). It is not clear from either Bramston or his original source how much of the big mortgage Abeles chose to cover.

? Hawke’s business mates [implied: including Abeles] were also “his patrons and financial guarantors” (289).

? Hawke’s business friends, especially Abeles and Abeles’ transport partner, George Rockey, paid his hotel bills, picked up the tab at the Boulevard Hotel – “Hawke usually occupied the Lady Nelson suite, which had entrances onto different corridors” – and provided him with chauffeur-driven cars (289).

? During his Prime Ministership, his tight-knit relation with Abeles was so well-known to his staff that Hawke would use “visiting Abeles” as cover story when actually visiting women in Sydney (517).

? It was Abeles whom Hawke selected to witness his secret PM-handover promise to Paul Keating in 1988, along with unionist Bill Kelty.

How financially corrupt was Bob Hawke in his ACTU and Parliamentary careers and in retirement? Anyone finishing Troy Bramston’s Bob Hawke, Demons and Destiny. The definitive biography would have to ask that question.

Bramston’s depiction of Hawke both as predator of and magnet for women was covered here. The media pack have also dealt him a ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ card on his shady money affairs, typically unmentioned till now let alone criticised.

Throughout Bramston’s monumental 720-page study, Hawke’s seedy companionship with TNT’s Sir Peter Abeles surfaces across several decades. Abeles was so close to Hawke that in 1974 he seriously asked Hawke to quit Labor to lead a new centrist anti-Whitlam party (p290), bankrolled with Abeles’ $250,000 (today’s coinage: $2.15m). Hawke disclosed the offer in a non-committal way to US Embassy operatives (Others say it was Hawke’s idea)[1] .A pic caption in Bramston’s book sums it all up:

The closest friendship Bob Hawke formed was with businessman Peter Abeles in the 1970s. He provided Hawke with financial support, paid his bills, bailed him out of gambling debts, and supplied him with cars, drinks and women (736).

I don’t think those that support drug laws of some sort believe these laws will eliminate use.

Tons of people do and it’s a fools errand and another example of the law of unintended c0nsquences. The FBI and every major anti-crime unit has been built up enormously to combat the war on drugs. Those corrupt disgusting organizations have now been turned against the people. If there were no war on drugs, the FBI would be probably 1/3 the size and more focused on finding serial killers, according to American crime series.

What they think is that drug laws reduce consumption below the level that probably would exist without drug laws.

I’m not buying that. I’m not so certain that usage would increase all that much although there could be. However, the safety of the drugs would also increase. I didn’t know until recently, most addicts don’t know there’s fentanyl in the crap they buy. It’s used because it’s cheap!

Every single fucking thing about the war on drugs is wrong, wrong and then more wrong.

Of course, it isn’t just drug laws the matter, the prevailing attitude to drug usage matters also.

You mean the nanny state, or rather the Right’s version of a nanny state?

I don’t know if the Russians think they have better market on which to offload their product, but the very construction of these two pipelines is an indication of the importance they probably place on the European market.

I’m not sure highlighting European vulnerability, or forcing them towards permanent alternatives, is in the Russian interest.

Precisely, one can think of anything about the Russians, but they are not stupid.
Why would you spend billions on building not one but two pipelines to supply gas to your customers, only to blow them up a few years later to cackle maniacally at their plight?

Counting vulnerability into a commercial decision is standard practice.

If this is going to be the future military practice to disrupt the economy of warring nations then, watch out everywhere.

Sign the Petition:

WILL YOU SIGN?
To New South Wales Members of Parliament,

As a parent and concerned citizen, I want to stand up for children and their parents by opposing NSW independent MP Alex Greenwich’s proposed “equality bill”.

Parents have the right to say no if their children want to “transition” their gender.

How we bring up our children is our business.

But a handful of transgender activists want opposition to their ideology to be made a crime – and for caring parents to be prosecuted and jailed.

These activists aren’t fighting for “equal rights” – they’re fighting to take away parental rights.

They will criminalise parents and counsellors who simply want to protect children from rash decisions to take puberty blockers and submit to sex-change surgery before they’re even 18 years old – and old enough to understand the irreversible and lifelong consequences like sterility or brain impairment.

These laws will even criminalise praying for our kids.

Parents of children, and adults, who suffer unwanted sexual orientation or gender identity issues should be able to seek whatever help they want.

We respectfully call on you to take strong and decisive action to stop Alex Greenwich’s dangerous legislation – as you will be accountable to the people on election day on Saturday, March 25, 2023.

Just let kids be kids.

How many of these freaking parasites would you need if drugs were legal?

The ATF has 5,285.

ATF costs about US$1.5 billion a year. Using the same proportion it means the FBI costs $10 billion p.a

Add in another say US$3 billion for other federal agencies involved in the bullshit.

Then there are states.

Add in the cost of folks in jail because they were caught and not involved in any other crime. The cost is huge on the US. Likely we have to same proportions here too.

Get a load of these numbers. It’s staggering.

Enforcing the drug control system costs at least $100 billion a year. Federal spending in the United States alone totals around $15 billion annually and according to one estimate, state and local drug-related criminal justice expenditures amount to $25.7 billion.

It’s around $US 140 billion.

Ian Freckelton KC won’t represent NT police who sent ‘racist’ texts

Kristin Shorten
Investigative Journalist
@itsKShort
An hour ago September 29, 2022

The five Northern Territory police officers who exchanged “racist, sexist and offensive” text messages with Constable Zachary Rolfe have – in the last 24 hours – found themselves without legal representation at the coronial inquest into Kumanjayi Walker’s death.

At the end of proceedings on Wednesday, Ian Freckelton KC – who is representing the NT Police Force and its members – revealed that he would no longer represent the officers involved in the text exchanges.

At the opening of proceedings on Thursday, Dr Freckelton told Coroner Elisabeth Armitage that the issue of legal representation of those members remained “unresolved”.

The onus is now on the police members involved to obtain their own legal representation before the inquest resumes calling witnesses on October 10.

Constable Rolfe fatally shot Walker during an arrest at the remote outback community of Yuendumu in November 2019 but has since been acquitted of all charges related to the teenager’s death.

In the last fortnight shocking messages between Alice Springs police officers – revealing racist, sexist and offensive attitudes to the community, their colleagues and commissioners – have been ventilated in court.

The private texts – extracted from Constable Zachary Rolfe’s iPhone after his arrest – reveal the “disgusting” attitudes of a handful of Alice Springs officers towards Indigenous people, bush cops and their female colleagues as well as their use of “blatantly racist” terms such as “coon” and “n…er”.

They also include “expressions of contempt” for police management.

Northern Territory Police Association lawyer Sally Ozolins this morning objected to proceeding in the absence of police members who are unrepresented in the proceedings.

“My concerns were raised immediately after Dr Freckleton advised that he could not and would not be representing certain members of the Northern Territory police force, who up until that point had been represented by him,” Ms Ozolins said.

“I can’t say what submissions might be made on behalf of the members who are now not represented, but it’s certainly the case that at least in relation to the phone download, there are several members who are likely to be affected by any determination in relation to the admissibility or the use that might be made of that material.

If you had legal heroin, people would likely use fentanyl at a much lower rate.

Interesting report:

A Theory About Ancient Israel and Opium May Have Just Been Proved (25 Sep)

Archaeologists excavating outside of Tel Aviv, Israel have unearthed evidence of the narcotic opium in 3,400-year-old graves. The opium was discovered in eight pottery containers found as part of a series of Late Bronze Age burials.

Pliny the Elder, the Roman admiral and encyclopedist, wrote in his Natural History that people in Iberia (Spain) had long consumed opium. “The juice” he wrote “possessed certain soporific qualities” that if taken too high quantities could induce death. Pliny identifies it as a suicidal technology and names one aristocrat who used it to end his chronic pain.

There you go, they had the same issues with opiates then as now. Good for pain relief but don’t take too much of it. Pity these days you just about have to tie yourself in knots to get an endone or codeine prescription from a GP.

The FBI has tens of thousands of agents for a variety of purposes, like, raiding the My Pillow Guy’s home for example. We also all know most criminal agencies have a very “go soft” approach on drug users and so do the courts.

Lysander- if the FBI was 1/3 of the size it’s criminal nature in going after the pillow guy would likely be less than now. It’s a monstrosity. And the Republicans will do nothing to trim it down to size because of the drug trade.

Go soft on users depends. It depends on the quantity and if the amount automatically deems them to be sellers. Then, it becomes another kettle of fent.

Re 1, well, let me just say that I don’t think a law eliminates X, I think it reduces its likelihood. Re 2, its hard not to buy given it is implausible that drug taking wouldn’t increase if you made it legal, cheaper, and ‘safer’.

I’m not so sure. Years ago were discussing this stuff and someone came up with this, which I can’t verify. Perhaps we can get one or two of self appointed “fect- checkers” a find out ( get them to do something fucking useful for a change). In the latter 1800s when drugs were legal, around 2% of the population was using stuff. I think heroin was around then and so was coke.
It’s about the same proportion now using illicit drugs.

LOL, the state, particularly the liberal state, is always sending messages about what it approves of and what it doesn’t, you just have to look at the ten-fold and above increase in ‘transitioning’ over the last decade to see that.

And there are consequences. Consequentialism is a great way of learning lessons and there ought to be more of it for adults. We’ll find out the ramifications of young people having their tits and penises chopped off in about a decade or so. Hopefully future gens will learn from previous mistakes. Sometimes that’s all you can do.

Bern – I still think you’re missing the point here mate…

Do you ever ask: What possesses a person to “get off their head” and abdicate their senses/duties/obligation and “sovereign body” to any drug?

Why would a person do that? Are they unhappy? Stressed? Victim? Clinically depressed? Angry?

All this banter, and what great banter it is (!), doesn’t ask this fundamental question. Why?

Reminds me of a guy I know (who was far too mature for his age at 18) when he was getting a lift with his 53 year old boss who said “YEAh i’m going out tonight and I’m gonna get smashed this weekend. Partay!!!”

He innocently said “you’re 53 and you do that every weekend, that’s what 18 year olds do.” The boss was speechless.

(And for the record – I aint no saint!)

A negative impact on users of a drug, whatever their age or circumstances, is one thing.
It is unconscionable to be complacent about negative impact to third parties, who made no such conscious choice to use or to be near someone who used.

Only those who believe they will not feel any negative impact, or who are unable to conceptualize negative impact upon third parties, have the luxury of adopting a laissez faire approach to drugs.

Social instability will be the narrative (which Biden is working flat out to provoke). Out of control cost of living , the weaponized IRS , defunded police depts (rising violent crime), open borders and forcing citizens to accept and embrace the LGBTQI freak lifestyle they are imposing on families – these are all tools Biden is using to create the volatile social environment he needs to cancel the elections.

Two problems:

1. New ever more powerful opiates keep on being invented.

A new drug 20-100 times stronger than fentanyl is now making its way into common street drugs across the United States. Isotonitazene, referred to as ISO, is creating problems for spring breakers in Florida and even leading to second-hand overdoses.

2. China seems to be pushing this stuff as a strategic weapon.

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), ISO is manufactured in China, shipped to Mexico and then smuggled into the United States.

Likewise fentanyl is manufactured in China and thence trafficked. I don’t know what you do about all this, especially as the nitazenes and fentanyl are so powerful and so light that they’re cheaper and easier to smuggle. So when the likes of heroin is cut by the dealers they can reduce the heroin content and make it up with fentanyl or ISO for the extra oomph. And hook users of lower level drugs by spiking them with a little of these chemicals.

Florida warns of new drug much more powerful than fentanyl (Fox News, 29 Mar)

China is just going to keep on flooding all other nations until we go under, one way or another.

Mexican drug cartels take in between $19 billion and $29 billion annually from drug sales in the US. According to a July 2020 Congressional Research Service (CRS) report, about 125,000-150,000 homicides were organized crime-related from 2006 to 2018.20 Mar 2022

It must be difficult for kids to do the right thing when adults in positions of influence, responsibility and power do the wrong thing:

‘Twas ever thus

Refrain from doing ill for one all powerful reason, lest our children should copy our misdeeds we are all to prone to imitate whatever is base and depraved.

– Juvenal 1-2AD

It is the business of anybody who is going to be affected, i.e. burgled, have their property damaged or destroyed, have their quality of life or quiet enjoyment of their home disturbed, assaulted, murdered, or just generally placed in a situation of terror.

This occurring in the present circumstances when drugs are illegal.

Yes. It happens now.
Much of the above is due to some drugs altering behaviour for the worse – legalising those drugs will not alter the behaviour.

Many have not encountered the behaviour altering properties of some drugs. There are some who believe the worst we can see is heroin, or cocaine, or similar. Or who have never had use of the bad stuff impact their life, or believe by dint of their economic circumstances they will be insulated from any fallout.
There are far worse.
Those worse drugs should never be legalised, (or de-criminalised, or any other workaround)

That it ain’t happening in Toorak or Vaucluse don’t mean it ain’t happening.

You didn’t mention it, but what half should I think you were suggesting?

The drugs half. I know you’ve been intimidated by my cute owl posts but you shouldn’t take it personally. Every man has to face the fact that some women are more muscular than him. Except me. Anyway, here’s another cute owl. Don’t beat yourself up, just accept it. And don’t do drugs.

Been out for a bit…

And missed a bit…

So, are we up to the bit where we’re all on China’s side now cos they are hell bent on getting freedom smuggled through the borders? Pretty sure that’s Pakistan’s “pitch” too?

You see, if it wasn’t illegal, they wouldn’t have to smuggle it.

So make it free, so we can all be slaves.

Consequences teaches others.

That is the basis of my caveat with regards to legalising drugs. So many people (not all, but plenty) no longer think about risks. In the past censure by peers and their refusal to fund bad habits would have arrested the decline of many before it was too late. There is a reason the history books are not awash with dead-eyed scarecrows. But those few who sunk so low would have been a cautionary tale for others.

Now addicts are told it is not their fault. They are victims. And, using the appalling logic of the age, if anything bad happens to you it is not your fault. And it is therefore someone else’s job to fix it for you. And if no one is going to fix it then you will have to do something about it it is someone else’s fault.

The struck through part is what is missing in the minds of ‘victims’ and their advocates alike. Including the courts which will extend a leniency to the drug-fucked they would not to the alcoholic. Or maybe now they do.

But it is easy for addicts to get by without the people who previously would have reined them in.

Well, that is all by the by. And the point I am making is that we breed people who can properly assess risk and make stupid choices and do not own the consequences. I think this is far more important that keeping drugs illegal. Sort out the former and the latter will to a large extent (to that it is a problem) will take care of itself.

But there is the supply side.

I think a lot of the problems we have with drugs are related to their illegality. The people that make the newer ones have it in mind to make them as addictive as they can, and with absolutely no mind to side effects – no one takes ice so they can storm into a Maccas and break their own bones punching walls. But that is what they can ‘afford’.

I have never used drugs. No desire to. I was put off dope at the sight of stoners, including people that had been friends. Dull, unfocussed, listless, feeble – they became incapable of enjoying life, preferring a lifeless joy. Not everyone who smokes dope is like this, but for me it became a warning.

I like me grog, but I would like to think I enjoy the taste side rather than its intoxicating nature. Certainly I have never heard of a person on crack ruminating on the equivalence of climate or fruit or tannin structure.

But then how would I know?

Without speaking he then mimed the head and upper body movements of an opium smoker chasing the smoke drifting up from a pipe; it was uncanny.

American car rental company Hertz has collaborated with British oil giant BP for the development of a national network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations powered by bp pulse – BP’s global electrification and charging solution brand.

BP Pulse is expanding its global network of high-speed charging for cars, light commercial vehicles, and trucks with a global target of more than 100,000 charges by 2030. Roughly 90% of those will be rapid or ultra-fast chargers.

This deal is hot on the heels of an agreement made between Hertz and General Motors last week, whereby Hertz plans to order up to 175,000 EV’s from GM over the next five years. It will encompass EV deliveries through 2027 as Hertz increases the EV component of its fleet and GM accelerates production of EVs broadly.

This plan is believed to be the largest expansion of EVs among fleet customers, the broadest, because it spans a wide range of vehicle categories and price points — from compact and midsize SUVs to pickups and luxury vehicles.

The magnitude being about the same size as the most recent Mexico quake (M6.8 to M7.0).

This now marks the far Southeast side reaching out from the Pacific plate, as the 7’s spread out to the WEST Pacific up to Taiwan for instance, and 7’s spread to Mexico… then 6’s spread out to Chile and South Sandwich, as well as Alaska.

I feel asleep in a Freo carpark and came back to life some 6 hours later (without a sore arse).

Why anyone, who believes in the sovereignty of their body, an obligation or responsibility to others would want to do that, with that crap or anything else, remains perfectly obvious to me: Western society is getting sicker, really quickly and really badly.

Now I launch into my speech on Revelations… 😛

Pure Hydrogen Corp (ASX: PH2) says it’s delighted to inform the stock exchange that H2X Global (23% owned by PH2) that the Aussie EV hydrogen fuel cell manufacturer has confirmed the initial release of its Warrego All Wheel Drive ute.

For the growing fan-base of Australian hydrogen electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts the homegrown manufacturer H2X Global has also released some cracking details and photographs of its long-awaited Warrego hydrogen-powered utility. The ute is now undergoing final testing in the Netherlands as it heads towards formal certification in Europe, as well as locking in European compliance and then onto global markets.

With Australian certification testing to start any day now, H2X Global CEO and founder, Brendan Norman, called the completion of the first Warrego ute a milestone success. “It is extremely satisfying that our team now have the Warrego running through the final stages of its engineering, safety and on road verification program,” Norman said.

Based on the Ford Ranger, the ute is being converted to include the H2X powertrain developed for light vehicles featuring a supercapacitor-based Hybrid system at factories in Sale, Victoria and in the Netherlands. While this will allow the Warrego to work at the lower 350 bar compression, it has the capability to run at much higher compression rates which will double the range per tank.

Alex Greenwich is the person running the NSW government, certainly not the Premier. This man asked Gladys for abortion until birth and got it. Then he asked her for euthanasia and got it. Now he is asking for the transgender “equity bill” that will criminalise parental objection to their kids transition to something other than what they are.

Dominic, the supposedly good Catholic, did not make much noise against the first two give-aways, Tanya Davies and another MP stood up to the mob and paid a heavy price for it. I don’t have much faith in Dominic and think he will roll over just as Gladys did.

Who needs “conservatives”, sorry Liberals, when they do what the greens want. If Dominic were smart he could claw back some favourable poll numbers by saying no to this demand, and it is a demand, not a request.
