I remember Anthony Albanese promising Australians that by voting for him and his party in last May’s election, Australian families would save roughly $275 annually on energy bills.

I was amused by this one.

‘Desperate war of words’ erupts between Chalmers, Kean over energy bill relief (Sky News, 10 Feb)

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has traded barbs with his New South Wales counterpart Matt Kean over energy bill belief for households.

The support was provided in return for the Commonwealth offering targeted support for select households and small businesses to reduce their electricity bill.

But Mr Kean on Friday said that financial relief has not yet been forthcoming because Mr Chalmers was waiting until the May federal budget to deliver a “PR stunt”.

Wow, climate hypocrites at 10 paces and me without popcorn! At least it says they’re getting stick from the voters, and are under pressure. They won’t of course blame the people who are the actual guilty parties causing the high energy prices, which are themselves.

From Dr Faustus’ link:

Higgins has also previously complained about police conduct. She requested an internal investigation after sensitive evidence – including her counselling notes – were forwarded to the defence.
She has not yet received the results of that investigation.
Drumgold declined to comment

Is it normal to send this type of evidence to the defence?

I think it’s called “disclosure”
If a prosecution wants to table any evidence, the defence are given it before court day. Fresh manilla envelopes and long lost eyewitnesses crashing through the court doors are things that only happen in Hollywood.

The government will seize super the bail itself out of debt and to keep the welfare train going..

Your retirement is cancelled.

Another factor feeding into my exit plans.

I agree. The Superannuation System now has over 3 Trillion Australian Dollars in it and that is the Accumulation Benefit System – the Market value. The Defined Benefit System is quite different. What people seem to forget is that in the 1980s a Superannuation Fund had to have a certain percentage of its investments in Federal Government and Semi-Government Securities (Debt). And now with so much Government Debt you can see how easily that Debt can be plonked into every Accumulation Benefit account with the Guv’ment wiping out its Debt to start all over again. Meanwhile the Superannuation Holders get SFA on their crap investment (Guv’ment Debt).

Nice work Guv’ment. Watch this space as the Communists (LayBore) will do it.

When I retired, I took all of my money out of the Superannuation System tax free. And I invested it a lot of stuff that the Guv’ment will find tricky to touch without a Revolution.

I’d say that’s a certainty now.
Simon Benson in yesterday’s The Australian, said that:

Since Frydenberg’s achievements as a Minister were zero, and Dutton has done extremely well as Opposition Leader, the expectation must be that he won’t survive the Sofronoff Inquiry.

At the 2023 WEF meeting in Davos, Bancel again spoke about mRNA injections, this time stating he’d “like to have mRNA capacity on every continent.”…. It seems they’re well on their way…… as of January 2023, Moderna has 48 programs in development, including “36 programs in clinical trials encompassing investigational mRNA infectious disease vaccine candidates and mRNA therapeutic candidates spanning seven different modalities.”16 In a news release, Bancel reported:17

The above is one MAJOR reason the mRNA/nanoparticle industry is ‘too big to fail’ – they want to apply it broadly across the vax market, and pharmaceuticals in general.

Amsterdam’s tolerance for badly behaved tourists goes up in smoke

Amsterdam will ban smoking cannabis on the streets under plans to curb anti-social behaviour among tourists who “lose their morals” in the city.

A series of regulations, which will take effect in May, aims to improve the lives of residents who have long complained of disruption caused by tourists who visit the cannabis cafés. “The atmosphere becomes dire, particularly at night,” the authorities said this week. “A lot of people are under the influence [of drugs and alcohol] and hang around for a long time.”

The curbing of cannabis in open view is part of efforts by the city, led by the mayor Femke Halsema, to reform its image. “People who have lived here for a very long time feel estranged,” Halsema told Bloomberg last year. “We do not welcome people who come here on a holiday from morals.”

There is already a ban on drinking alcohol in public. Smoking cannabis will be forbidden in public in the inner city, and the authorities will investigate whether they can ban takeaway cannabis sales between 4pm and 1am from Thursday to Sunday nights, according to local reports.

Diederik Boomsma, leader of the local Christian Democrats, told the Dutch News website: “Some days you can’t even walk around the centre without breathing in the persistent stench of cannabis fumes, with glassy-eyed tourist zombies staggering about. That has to stop.”

Under current laws in the Netherlands it is a criminal offence to possess, produce or deal drugs. However, the Dutch have a “toleration policy” that allows coffee shops to sell cannabis under strict conditions. One of those conditions is that coffee shops must not cause any nuisance, and the government has ordered them to stop attracting foreign drug users.

In addition to the new laws, the Amsterdam council will launch a “stay away” campaign in the spring to target tourists travelling to the capital for drugs, alcohol and sex purposes. The Netherlands decriminalised possession of “soft” drugs such as cannabis in 1976.

“We have presented a package with a vision and we must stick to it. We must all put our shoulders to the wheel together behind this vision. Whether you live here, work, do business or visit the city: everyone, ultimately wants a liveable city,” Sofyan Mbarki, a city councillor, told the newspaper Het Parool.

Sex workers will also face tighter restrictions such as having to close their venues at 3am. Almost all councillors supported taking action to improve the lives of residents, many of whom feel their city has been blighted by revellers and tourists only interested in sex and drugs.

The new rules mean all restaurants and bars would have to close by 2am on Fridays and Saturdays and no new visitors would be allowed into the old city district after 1am.

At present the sale of alcohol from shops, liquor stores and cafés in the red light district is illegal from Thursday to Sunday after 4pm. Amsterdam officials will now ask sellers to completely remove alcohol from their shopfronts during that time, or hide it from view. It is illegal to consume alcohol in most public spaces in Amsterdam.

Crows may like a multitool, but cockies like a whole toolbox.

Cockatoos know to bring along multiple tools when they fish for cashews (Phys.org, 10 Feb)

“Goffin’s cockatoos are small white parrots that hail from the Tanimbar Islands archipelago in Indonesia. Captive Goffin’s cockatoos use and manufacture tools, and a previous study of wild-caught cockatoos reported that they can use up to three different tools to extract seeds from a particular fruit. Up until now, though, it wasn’t clear whether the cockatoos considered these tools as a “set”; it’s possible that what may look like a toolset is instead nothing more than a chain of single tool uses, with the need for each new tool appearing to the animal as the task evolves.

Now, a team of researchers have used controlled experiments to clarify that the cockatoos do indeed recognize when a job requires more than one tool.

the researchers presented the cockatoos with a box containing a cashew behind a transparent paper membrane. To reach the cashew, the cockatoos had to punch through the membrane and then “fish” the cashew out. They were provided with a short, pointy stick for punching holes and a vertically halved plastic straw for fishing.

Seven of the ten cockatoos tested taught themselves to extract cashews successfully by punching through the membrane, and two of the cockatoos (Figaro and Fini) completed the task within 35 seconds on their first attempt.”

The videos are fun. I especially liked the half-eaten chair in the second one. I’m most certainly not going to introduce the local Cafe cockies to cashew nuts. Had door cockie on my screen door this morning, and that was only for stale bread. One sniff of a cashew and I’d have cockies with chainsaws trying to get in.

(I hope my link to CL’s crow doesn’t cause an outbreak of cute owls from Cohenite.)

SO WHY DIDN’T THEY DO THIS LAST TIME?

US shoots down unknown ‘high-altitude object’ over Alaska, White House says. “President Joe Biden ordered the shootdown, spokesman John Kirby said, adding that the origin of the object has yet to be determined.”

What, Gen. Mark Milley didn’t overrule him?

But I hope we don’t start an interstellar war, because it sounds like a flying saucer:

ABC News Chief Global Affairs Correspondent Martha Raddatz first reported that when fighters were scrambled, the pilots did visuals, got images and said there was no sign the object had propulsion.

It was described as “cylindrical and silver-ish gray” and seemed to be floating, a U.S. official said.

Asked if was “balloon-like,” the official said, “All I say is that it wasn’t ‘flying’ with any sort of propulsion, so if that is ‘balloon-like’ well — we just don’t have enough at this point.”

“It came in, inside our territorial waters, those waters right now are frozen, but inside territorial airspace and over territorial waters. Fighter aircraft assigned to U.S. Northern Command took down the object within the last hour,” Kirby said.

Klaatu barada nikto.

UPDATE: From the comments: “So US government and Gibbering Joe shot an object out of the sky without first identifying what the object was? That’s highly irresponsible.”

Just as the North American accent preserves a strong rhotic pronunciation that went out of fashion in most of England sometime after North America was settled. It’s not American English that has changed in this regard, but British English (and the versions of it spoken in the colonies established after North America).

Somewhat similar to rickw, I don’t see any future for me here. But, also don’t see anywhere that’s worth running to in the western world. Bit bloody sad for someone who’s family have been here from before federation.
Rather telling too, that most of the really switched on people I’ve known have left.

Mysteries of life department: why do north Americans (Americans and Canadians) silence the “h” in the word “herbs”?

Lately they have been dropping the D from words like “couldn’t” and replacing them with a sort of glottal stop. It sounds cute in a three year old but you try to train them out of it. Not so good in a thirty something news reader, suggestive of imbecility.

No Development Approval does not equal dodgy work. Thompson put himself in a no-win situation.

Correct.
Similar as in min’s case. Departure from drawings does not necessarily mean the work is suss either.

At that moment, when instructed by his customer (someone, incidentally, in a very high position in legal circles) to proceed without approval, he should have run a mile.

Yep.
Not as if he wouldn’t have had plenty of work he could pick up if he was any good.

I know some here like the Ilse of Man motorcycle races, easy to see why. Funny enough they’re not the hairiest road races in the world, that title belongs to Irish motorcycle road racing, street circuits but with mass starts not TT conditions, amazing stuff. The do gooders have been trying to shut them down for years, well it looks like they are getting their way. All racing for this year has been cancelled by the controlling body due to insurance costs, I think the premium for this year is around 400,000 pounds, way too much for a small sport.

A sample, they’ve got watermelons where I have split peas, and I’ve road raced TZ’s and sidecars here in Oz -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpg4MKMQLwo

Busy caring for an autistic three year old, so didn’t notice the time and barely the date, so here is a comment I put on the end of the old thread:

Anyone on the ground could see the balloon in the sky without any sort of specialized equipment. To believe this was meant as a secret spycraft, you’d have to believe the Chinese authorities are just absolute morons, which (whatever else they might be) clearly isn’t true.

Not long before we visited the DMZ in South Korea the North Koreans sent up four drones over the territory beyond the DMZ thus into South Korea. The South Koreans sent up six fighter jets immediately in response, to shoot them down, although they are so small it was difficult to do so.

These drones were not intended as anything but what the South Koreans call ‘provocation’, just saying nah, nah, narny nah nah. This Chinese balloon is provocation of the same sort. It was a mistake for Biden to let them get away with it. OTT counter-responses seem to work better. There haven’t been any more drones over from North Korea since. Relationships with the North see-saw, they are currently on a downward move. At one stage in they were so good that the SK’s built and partly staffed a major industrial complex producing consumer durables right there in NK over the other side of the DMZ. It is now empty and unused.

Flying Duk,
My understanding is Dr Thomas Borody was the Aussie Dr who initially advised Clive and then contacted FLCC. Borody had treated 500 in Sydney with Ivermectin and I believe other drugs and then Clive followed FLCC protocol.

What a lot of people forget is that for the first year, pre vaccines, the Government Health advice was go home and wait until got sick enough to go to hospital.
For frontline Dr’s that was not good enough and they came up with off label medicines.

Kory showed showed a graph showing prescriptions of IVM going up until one week was 90,000 and that was what triggered the horse dewormer smear campaign.

Some may recall the fake story about an Oklahoma hospital where the article said multiple gun shot wound cases were being delayed treatment due to multiple cases of overdosing on horse dewormer coming in. Found to be totally false. Kory role played well the dewormer victims pushing ahead of the gunshot wound cases in the ER queue.

John Leake the joint author on McCullough book and Kory said all roads lead to Bill Gates in relation to capture of media and financial gain.

Anthony Albanese will become the first prime minister to march in the Sydney Mardi Gras parade.

“I’ll … be the first prime minister not to watch the march on Mardi Gras but to march with the community,” he told attendees at the opening on Saturday of Pride Square in Sydney’s Newtown, ahead of the WorldPride event taking place February 17-March 5.

“A huge shout-out to everyone that has made this happen. A huge shout-out to the 78ers and all those who’ve struggled for human rights … The next month will be a fantastic celebration with Pride coming here to Australia in a celebration,” the Prime Minister said.

The 78ers were a group of LGBT activists who marched in the first Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade on June 24, 1978.

Mr Albanese spoke about the importance of equality, as well as tolerance.

“We speak a lot about tolerance and tolerance is really important but this is about a step that is way more important than tolerance,” he said.

“We need to celebrate our diversity, not just tolerate it. Because our diversity is what gives our society strength. It’s what makes us a microcosm for the world when we see so much conflict.

“We can become a beacon for the world. One that says, regardless of who you believe in, who you love, what your gender is, or what your ethnicity is, you will be given respect.

or over 30 years, I was forced to ‘invest’ in Super by having my employer remove money from each paycheck. Now that I need it in my ‘retirement’, I can only have it back if I pay a 32% tribute to the government (they ‘retired’ me before retirement age you see).

I worked out years ago that they were going to steal ALL your super (if not outright by seizure, then by rolling your funds into one single, ‘safe’, government pot from which you got paid an ever more worthless pension in printed fiat – ‘in response to overwhelming public demand for safety’). Hence, I started saving *outside* of super. I bought precious metals and bitcoin, both of which have appreciated nicely, and can be accessed whenever I wish.

Oh yes, Dr Duk.

When I withdrew from the APS and formerly the NSW PS, I took steps to be able to cash out every penny. I paid off my house and invested the rest.

It’s a two-punch. First, taking your money will ensure a comfortable retirement (it won’t, never has and never will) and second, your money is secure. No, it isn’t, and anyone who thinks that politicians will not notice this enormous honeypot is delusional.

There was an Aussie Dr, Melissa McCann, who spoke first at the event. Had only vaguely heard of her before as being behind a vaccine victim class action case.

She is a GP from a 15,000 people town in Whitsunday area. She did not give too many jabs herself so most of her normal clients were getting them elsewhere but she was the one dealing with injuries. She had 4 myocarditis cases in one week and realised if her small practice was seeing that then what was the big picture. She also mentioned increased miscarriages.

She was an impressive speaker and obvious why chosen to support McCullough and Kory. No doubt Clive supporting the class action case.

No matter what your thoughts about Clives politics he has been a strong advocate for vaccine injured and has spent considerable money assisting others since this started.

Blind Freddie could have told you that, if you denounce your religion, you don’t start believing in nothing – you’ll believe in anything.

The swarms of newly-minted athiests in the West who have abandoned Christianity in the past 30 years don’t now believe in nothing.

Their new religion is a form of animism like that of the Aztecs in central America 500-700 years ago who, like modern progressives, worshipped plants, animals and invented celestial gods.

They’ve called their new religion “climate change”, a deliberate misunderstanding of the cycles of climate variability that says the human race is responsible for the weather – the ultimate expression of narcissism that confers god-like powers on the earth’s eight billion inhabitants.

A disgrace to humanity.

Attacks like this on Rosie are uncalled for.

She mentions that hydroxychlorquine had FDA approval withdrawn as it caused heart palpitations in Covid patients. Well, yes, that was the reason offered, without further consideration of this drug’s utility, nor taking into consideration of its widespread use and general population safety. This unusual side effect was at that time a very convenient excuse to knock out further research.

However, the side effect is real. Hydroxychloroquine does cause heart palpitations in some people.

Rose was simply reporting a fact. The FDA did use this reason. Perhaps she could have added that it provided a convenient excuse to push attention onto prevention by vaccines rather than by other preventatives or treatments. But this ad femina abuse of Rose should stop.

State why you think she is wrong rather than abuse her in the most dreadful manner for a truthful statement. Who the hell do you think you are, Trickler and Matrix, so be so vile and pick up so many upticks for it? Why do people want to agree with such vileness here?

Further up this thread there’s a whinge going on about a lack of doctors (GPs). Well here’s the answer for all these BS whiners….

Stop stuffing yourselves with 12 meals a day…plus snacks…and get out doing some exercise….Stop the ciggies and over-boozing.

90% of ailments are life-style (over-indulging, lazing about) which means 90% and more of GP visits (plus assorted testing options) are due to this. STOP IT, and the GPs will be available when needed for stuff that’s NOT lifestyle related FFS.

The one that makes me laugh most is “Aloominum”.
The thing I do find galling lately is the bad grammar and spelling creep coming over here. Yanks have long been known for not using “an” before a word that begins with a vowel. Everything is “uh”. Same with “the” which is lengthened to “thee” sound. There “is” for singular and there “are” for plural. Too many these days are using the abbreviation “there’s” where they should be using “there’re”.
Sheer laziness. And let’s not mention Lose or Loose!

Isn’t it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?

It would be lovely to think there are fairies at the bottom of the garden.

Douglas Adams thinks his beautiful garden is “enough”, in the same way that eating the entreé without imagining a main or, heaven forbid, dessert is enough. How does he know it’s enough? Is he so easily satisfied?

The Federal Reserve is about to go broke, and how accounting gimmickry will mask the event. Until it doesn’t. And this needs bearing in mind as geo-political events play out viz Russia, China , ME etc.

https://www.lynalden.com/broke-federal-reserve/

From January 2011 until September 2022, the Federal Reserve paid approximately $1 trillion in cumulative remittances to the U.S. Treasury, which was a nice revenue source for the government. Now, those payments aren’t flowing anymore.

In a few months, the Federal Reserve will have lost enough money from this negative net interest income, that it will have negative tangible equity. In other words, its financial liabilities will exceed its financial assets. However, thanks to some accounting gimmicks, their reported equity is basically unchanged.

……..

In 1933, U.S. federal government ended redeem-ability of the dollar for gold, and in 1934 forced the Federal Reserve to hand over all of its gold to the U.S. Treasury Department.

……..

So, in order to avoid rendering the Fed insolvent (and thus dependent) with that action, the Treasury also gave the Fed an equal amount of gold certificates that equaled the value of the gold they were handing over to the Treasury. It was just a “trade”, in other words.

…….

The gold certificates theoretically represent a claim to the gold, but are non-redeemable, and thus don’t really mean anything. A non-redeemable certificate for something is like a mother giving her child a pretend toy steering wheel in the back seat of a car to have fun and think he is driving, while the mother actually drives the car.

……………….

Oh, and this;

“In 2021, the Federal Reserve earned $100+ billion in net interest income. Some of it went to pay for operating expenses of the Federal Reserve, and some of it was paid out as a dividend to the shareholders of the Federal Reserve (which are the commercial banks themselves)”.

I see now I’m reading the whole thread that there was further comment on the FDA approval and rejection of hydroxychlorophine, similar to what I wrote above, i.e. the heart problems were an excuse to withdraw it. And I note that the abuse of Rosie over the came from comments made by early morning thread wanderers who were no doubt the worse for wear due to reasons unknown. lol.

However, Rose should not be the whipping boy for the frustrations some feel about the FDA. On the surface, the reasons they used may have seemed valid. Plenty of medicos agreed. I have had hydroxychloroquine and in me it caused significant bleeding from all musosal tissues. I am unusually sensitive to it. This happens with most drugs, someone has a bad reaction somewhere. I take doxycycline as an anti-malarial. This, in combination with hydroxy, would be a potent anti-Covid medication, and doxycycline, like hydroxy and like ivermectin, is widely use in the third world for Malaria.

Dover, would it be possible to announce on any old thread in its dying moment that a new thread has phoenixed up? It would be so helpful to people who are in different time zones or jetlagged or just plain old not up to scratch on how things work around here?

Is this why the Moldovan government just collapsed?

Collapse seems a strong word for what seems to be happening, which is that the party in government changes leaders from one pro-Western wonk to another.

Not much fun being Moldovan at the moment, from the sounds of it.

We, 3, had flown over to Ireland to drive around Ireland in a 3 day weekend, renting car and sharing costs

At Blarney Castle, she did not want to climb to the top and kiss the Blarney Stone, so she wandered into the Blarney Castle Fairy Gardens – Wife went to top, but did not kiss Blarney Stone, but I did and reckon Son was born just over 1 year later with the Gift of the Gab, due to me kissing the Blarney Stone – Wife cynically on this, reckons I never shut up, so genetic.

When we came out of the bottom of the castle, our travelling companion appeared at speed out of the Fairy Garden – apparently she had happened upon a male masturbating himself in the Fairy Garden, and skedaddled out of there at speed – we retired to a Pub to calm her nerves

Great Travelling Companion, a real Cynic, and she & my wife joined forces togther to rein me in.

Ed – Your memory of history isn’t as bad as Monty’s but it isn’t great. Have you looked up Operation Praying Mantis yet?

The Sino-Soviet border conflict was a seven-month undeclared military conflict between the Soviet Union and China in 1969, following the Sino-Soviet split. The most serious border clash, which brought the world’s two largest communist states to the brink of war, occurred in March 1969 near Zhenbao (Damansky) Island

The Sino-Vietnamese War (also known by other names) was a border war fought between China and Vietnam in early 1979. China launched an offensive in response to Vietnam’s actions against the Khmer Rouge in 1978, which ended the rule of the Chinese-backed Khmer Rouge.

The Sino-Indian War took place between China and India from October to November 1962, as a major flare-up of the Sino-Indian border dispute.

War is heck, as they say. I haven’t bothered with the conquest of Tibet, that was brutal as even you know.

The US Administration can’t help bending over to the FDA (aka Big Pharma). Keeping theft and fraud legal. But, there is definitely no conspiracy here;

One in five prescriptions would be affected if the FDA gets its way, putting Big Pharma in charge of making decisions about your health instead of your doctor. Make no mistake, this appropriations bill involving $1.7 trillion in spending could change the practice of medicine—and not in your favor.

STORY AT-A-GLANCE
The 2023 omnibus appropriations bill includes 19 lines that could give the U.S. Food and Drug Administration the power to ban off-label use of approved medications.

If the little-noticed provision is passed, doctors’ ability to freely treat patients and patients’ ability to use all available treatments after making an informed decision will be lost.

The amendment puts the FDA, and by proxy Big Pharma, at the helm of powerful health care decisions that should be made on an individual, personalized level between a patient and their health care provider.

In California, law AB 2098, which went into effect Jan. 1, 2023, gives the state power to take away doctors’ medical licenses if they spread “misinformation” that goes against the standard COVID-19 rhetoric.

The trend to allow a Pharma-controlled government to silence your doctor and dictate basic components of your medical care is not confined to the U.S.—it’s happening globally.

Already occurring in a number of green council areas most notably Oxford in the UK. And London, which is starting to cause some serious opposition.

How London’s eco-obsessed mayor is threatening to drive white van man off the road: Sadiq Khan wants to extend Ultra Low Emission Zone across the entirety of the capital. But it could leave drivers of older cars facing a ruinous £3,000 a year bill (Daily Mail megaheadline, 30 Jan)

China got its arse handed to it by a bunch of border guards and local militias in the 1979 Sino-Vietnamese War, whilst the main Vietnamese army was in Cambodia kicking the snot out of the Khmer Rouge and setting up a new client government in its place. After enduring eye-watering casualties, the PLA retreated and petulantly razed any Vietnamese territory they held in their wake.

China apologists claim that the PLA left after it ‘opened the gate’ to Hanoi, having made its point. The problem with this narrative is the 250k force defending the capital that the PLA didn’t come close to engaging.

They also claim that only the PLA was involved – if the PLAAF and PLAN were part of the conflict, it would have been a turkey shoot. They’re right, although it would have been the Chinese who were the turkeys. Firstly, it’s not clear how the Chinese navy could have impacted the outcome of a land war that occurred hundreds of kilometres from the coast. As for the Chinese air force – it had a bunch of obsolete 1950s-era planes whilst the Viets had a modern fleet and an advanced air defence network in place.

And there’s also the not-insignificant fact that the Chinese had zero experience in combined arms warfare, whilst the Viets had way more than any nation would want. The only way the war could have turned out worse for the Chinese is if they involved all three branches of their military.

The PLA back then was a dim-witted, clumsy behemoth. Even Deng Xiaoping described it as having ‘short arms and short legs’. They were still using runners to transmit orders from the rear to the frontlines, like in WW1. They didn’t even use radio! But yeah, the Chinese beat the Vietnamese. Right. I guess that’s why it’s barely known about in China, because regimes such as theirs are famously modest about their military victories.
