So a political organization funding a hit job against an opposition politician is the new normal in Austfailure then??

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/may/12/climate-200-fundraising-to-help-cover-alex-greenwichs-costs-in-legal-action-against-mark-latham

Climate 200, the campaign group behind the rise of the teal independents, is fundraising to help cover the costs of New South Wales independent MP Alex Greenwich’s legal action against Mark Latham.

Last Monday Greenwich gave the NSW One Nation party leader a two-week deadline – until 17 May – to publicly and unreservedly apologise for homophobic comments he made before facing a defamation action in which “maximum damages” will be sought.

Latham has refused to apologise for a graphic tweet he posted and deleted on 30 March, which Greenwich described as “defamatory and homophobic” and attracted widespread condemnation from across the political spectrum.
Greenwich, the MP for Sydney, said Climate 200’s support was consistent with the group’s focus on integrity in politics and equality.

The initial fundraising target is $100,000 to cover legal fees but Greenwich said this could increase.

“Climate 200’s support in this important legal battle will help me stand up to Mr Latham’s homophobic attacks, seek justice, and send a clear message that LGBTQIA+ Australians shouldn’t have to put up with vilifying abuse,” he said.

“This is a serious matter, [which] will be costly financially [and] emotionally, and their support helps provide me with the strength and encouragement to keep me going.”

If Greenwich’s claim is successful, his legal team believes Latham would be forced out of parliament under NSW law

.Prof Graeme Orr, an expert in parliamentary law at the University of Queensland, said Climate 200’s fundraiser was unlikely to be considered a political donation under the NSW electoral funding act because the benefit was not substantially for Greenwich’s election or duties as MP.

Orr said Greenwich would be required to disclose the source of the fundraiser on the pecuniary interest register but not the amount.

Hydrogen Fraud? The Newest Twist in Australia’s Renewable Energy Insanity (10 May)

This is going to be funnier than government attempts to contain European carousel fraud.

When you think about it, hydrogen fraud makes a lot of financial sense as a criminal money maker.

There is no way green industries can produce affordable hydrogen which can challenge the cost of producing hydrogen from fossil fuel, so you need a certificate to prove your absurdly expensive hydrogen has the correct green pedigree.

But hydrogen is fungible – nobody can tell post production whether the hydrogen came from steam reforming fossil fuel or renewable electrolysis, or even nuclear powered thermochemical processes. Maybe regulators could cast some doubt using isotopic analysis, but there would likely be enough natural variation for plausible deniability.

The other aspect is that green hydrogen producers will be holy to Gaia and the Left, so there will be zero scrutiny from the MSM or the authorities. It’ll be rorter heaven.

Got caught once with a guy like that to fix my washing machine. I was desperate, he smelled it, and after depriving me of $300 for a half hour visit the damn thing still didn’t work properly. Turned out he was a well known fraudster who couldn’t fix anything.

When my fridge broke down last year the mechanic who came to fix it said that it would cost more to fix it than to buy a new one. I even got a coupon to use towards a new fridge if I bought the same brand. The cost of the coupon was the same as the call out fee. I hadn’t meant to use it and then found that what I wanted was the same brand after all.

Only 15.2% Of The World’s Population Condemns Russia… (But, 60% Of Its GDP)

The following infographic, via Statista’s Anna Fleck, reveals greater insight into who it is that supports and condemns Russia.

The left chart considers global GDP, also known as gross domestic product, which is a measure used to look at a country’s (or countries’) economic health.

It shows that the owners of nearly two thirds (60.1 percent) of the world’s wealth condemn Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. This majority of wealth mostly comes from the U.S. and countries in Europe.

The right hand chart, however, indicates the share of people worldwide that live in a country that condemns or supports Russia.

Here, the largest group is ‘neutral’. According to the EIU, several countries, including Colombia, Turkey and Qatar, who were previously Western-aligned, have moved into the neutral category as their governments are “seeking to reap economic benefits from engaging with both sides.”

The EIU based their research on policies around the world, assessing the enforcement of sanctions, UN voting patterns, domestic political trends, official statements, as well as economic, political, military and historical ties.

Woman thinks men should be more like bower birds..

Because they dont put in any effort when the slut-swipe you on tinder.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/may/12/classic-first-date-stuff-what-men-could-learn-from-bowerbirds-and-their-courting-efforts

While watching the cute profiles of various bird species that all incorporate dance into their mating schemes, I cleverly noticed a running theme. In each case, when it came to the effort of courting and relationships, it was exclusively the male birds that had to put in the work.

We know that male birds are often the more flashy and colourful but these little guys also put in the physical and emotional labour, and none more so than the MacGregor’s bowerbird. To impress the female MacGregor’s enough to even be considered as a mate, the male bowerbirds have to build, decorate, clean and maintain an elaborate tall structure made of twigs and various nature items. *
The MacGregor’s bowerbird featured in the documentary works for seven years (!) on his bower and builds a structure more than one metre tall, beautifully and specifically decorated with sap. It isn’t the end of the effort though – that is all just to entice his crush to come near, the first step in his plan. He then takes her through a meticulously planned series of events. He puffs out his colourful chest, impressing her with his plumage. He displays his nimbleness and his hopping dance moves by instigating a fun game of hide and seek around a tree stump. That would be enough to woo any creature but he doesn’t stop there. He wraps up the events by putting on a final big display, showing off his incredible mimicry skills. These birds can mimic other birds but our guy in the documentary could also do the sounds of wood chopping, dogs barking and children playing. Classic first date stuff. After all of that effort, if the lady bird is impressed enough, he gets his reward – two seconds of bird copulation.

Monash University tutor returns to classroom after n-word slur

A Monash University tutor who allegedly used a racial slur during a cultures class has been cleared of any wrongdoing, under the guise of “academic freedom”.

Teaching associate Dr Gary Lacey was accused of using the n-word in the “From Freud to Friends: Ethnic Identity in Popular Culture” tutorial in February.

It’s understood Mr Lacey repeatedly said the slur for the “purpose of analysis” and argued that his wife was Kenyan so he was “allowed” to say it.

An alternative tutor was allocated to the unit while the university investigated the incident at the Clayton campus.

In an email to students on Thursday, unit co-ordinator David Slucki said the incident “fell within the remit of academic freedom”.

“The matter has now been fully investigated by the university,” he said.

“The outcome of that investigation is that Dr Lacey did not engage in serious misconduct or misconduct and has not breached university policy around behaviours in the workplace and integrity and respect.

“The investigation concluded that the incident fell within the remit of academic freedom.”

Mr Slucki said Mr Lacey would return to the classroom “effective immediately”.

“As such Dr Lacey has been reinstated to his role, effective immediately,” he said.

“As of today, Dr Lacey will be teaching his regularly scheduled tutorials … and will be fulfilling other duties such as marking as originally planned.”

Students took to social media to vent their frustration about the decision.

“The chief examiner has been taking most of his replacement classes which has been really great, considering it’s been 10 weeks since it occurred, I’m sure most students would rather the same tutors they have had the whole time,” one woman said.

“Its pretty disappointing result for the students affected, especially considering the class content is about racial and ethnic representation.”

Another student, who was in Mr Lacey’s tutorial on Thursday night, said it was “very awkward”.

“We had created a great relationship with the tutor who had been taking his class for the past 10 weeks, so we were all very disappointed,” she said.

“He brought cookies and crackers for us, which seemed a little odd. A group of us has organised to attend another tutorial as there is a participation grade.”

Monash University was contacted for comment.

Russian Media Says Ukraine’s Counteroffensive Has Begun Amid Conflicting Reports

Russian media as well as some Western reports are saying the Ukrainian counteroffensive has begun. This comes the day after Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of Russia’s Wagner Group, blasted regular Russian forces for retreating from parts of the Bakhmut front.

Prigozhin also claimed that Russia’s 72nd Separate Motor-rifle Brigade has given up its positions along the town’s southwest edge, also while pleading for more ammunition to go to Wagner fighters. Importantly, in a late Thursday report Russian state media is citing a prominent war correspondent to say the much-touted spring offensive has arrived, even though Ukrainian leaders on the same day said it is still stalled and they are “waiting” – also for more weapons from the West.

Russia’s RT cites the war journalist as follows: “Ukrainian forces have breached Russian defenses northwest of the city of Artyomovsk in Donbass, Russian war correspondent Evgeny Poddubny reported on Thursday evening. He believes it’s the beginning of Kiev’s much-touted spring offensive.”

“The attackers appear to have launched a series of simultaneous strikes north and south of Artyomovsk, also known as Bakhmut, several other Russian war reporters added,” the report continues. “The city has been the scene of intense fighting between Russian and Ukrainian troops for months.”

And more from the state media report:

In addition, Kiev’s troops have reportedly used tanks to strike the city of Soledar. Located northeast of Artyomovosk, it was captured by Russian troops after heavy fighting in January.

Meanwhile, in Zaporozhye Region, Kiev’s troops have reportedly attacked Russian positions near the city of Guliay-Pole. They are seeking to break through the Russian forces’ first defensive line, Poddubny explained.

However, the defense ministry was quick to contradict some of these claims, also downplaying the severity of fighting in these locales:

Ukraine’s counteroffensive has begun – media

Kiev’s troops have reportedly struck Russian positions northwest of the city of Artyomovsk in Donbass

Ukrainian forces have breached Russian defenses northwest of the city of Artyomovsk in Donbass, Russian war correspondent Evgeny Poddubny reported on Thursday evening. He believes it’s the beginning of Kiev’s much-touted spring offensive.

The attackers appear to have launched a series of simultaneous strikes north and south of Artyomovsk, also known as Bakhmut, several other Russian war reporters added. The city has been the scene of intense fighting between Russian and Ukrainian troops for months.

A large column of heavy military equipment was also allegedly spotted moving towards the Ukrainian side of the border with Russia’s Belgorod Region in the northeast.

On Thursday evening, the Russian Defense Ministry said the “general situation in the area of the special military operation was under control.” Denying the reports of any “breakthroughs,” the ministry did note there was a pitched battle near the hamlet of Malo-Ilyinovka, northwest of Artyomovsk.

Kiev has not commented on Thursday’s movements so far. Earlier in the day, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky claimed his military still needed more time to prepare before the attack.

The country’s forces were generally “ready” for the operation, he told a collection of Western state media outlets, adding, however, that the cost of the offensive would probably be too high at the present moment. “We can go forward, and, I think, be successful,” Zelensky said. “But we’d lose a lot of people. I think that’s unacceptable. So we need to wait.”

The long-awaited attack was originally expected to start in the spring – even as early as late winter – but has been repeatedly postponed by Kiev, which cited unfavorable weather conditions and the need to stockpile more Western weapons and equipment before the operation.

Earlier this week, German Armed Forces chief General Carsten Breuer also said that the conditions for a massive operation in Ukraine were “not in place.”

US ‘should be in the dock’ – China

Washington is “in no position to point fingers” at Beijing, Foreign Ministry official Wang Wenbin has argued

The US has blatantly violated international law while imposing its own rules upon the world by force, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin has claimed. The comments followed reports that Washington and its allies are planning to use an upcoming G7 summit to demand that China “act responsibly.”

During Wang’s regular press briefing on Thursday, a journalist with China’s Global Times mentioned speculation that G7 leaders will ask Beijing “to abide by international rules” when they meet in Japan later this month.

Issuing a lengthy response, Wang began by asserting that “for the overwhelming majority of countries in the world” the term “international rules” means the basic standards of relations enshrined in the UN Charter.

“However, when the G7 talk about international rules, they mean the Western rules,” he continued.

“Those rules serve the vested interest of very few countries, including the G7, rather than the common interests of the international community.”

While asking China to abide by these rules, the US has walked away from 17 international organizations and treaties, “spied indiscriminately” on its allies and enemies alike, “strong-armed countries diplomatically, and applied economic coercion and military interference,” Wang contended.

“The US has blatantly invaded Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria, and other countries that are smaller and weaker than the US, killing and displacing tens of millions of innocent civilians,” the official added.

“When it comes to international rules, the US’s place is in the dock. It is in no position to point fingers at other countries.”

It is unclear which report the Global Times journalist was referring to. However, Japan’s Nikkei newspaper reported last week that the G7’s joint communique – usually released following summits – would include an entire section urging China to “act responsibly” regarding its claim to Taiwan and its relationship with Russia.

The communique’s language will likely mirror that of a joint statement by G7 foreign ministers released last month. In that statement, the ministers accused Beijing of human rights violations in Xinjiang and Tibet, denounced its claims in the South China Sea, and demanded that it act “as a responsible member of the international community.”

Chinese officials have repeatedly dismissed such messages from the West, and Wang has previously declared that Beijing will not listen to accusations from a country that commits “war crimes and crimes against humanity.”

Former Archdiocese of Canberra-Goulburn Vicar General Fr Tony Percy is taking the fight to the ACT Government over the compulsory takeover of Calvary Public Hospital, Bruce.

Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has also weighed in on the Calvary takeover, calling it “overbearing and arrogant.”

“What on earth is happening to our country when a perfectly well run hospital can be nationalised at whim without discussion and without any real notice?” he wrote on Twitter.

“Quite apart from being evidence of overbearing and arrogant government this looks like yet another assault on the Church.”

Epic – Congressman Byron Donalds Drops the Atomic Sledgehammer of Truth on CNN Panel

May 11, 2023 – Sundance

Congressman Byron Donalds represents Southwest Florida CD-19; he comes from good stock. After the CNN attack townhall in New Hampshire last night, Donalds appeared on a CNN panel to discuss.

Prior to Donalds joining the panel, the six other panelists were echo-chambering their narrative talking points without rebuttal. Donalds put that nonsense to rest. However, beyond the epic pushback, notice how the panel reacts to having their narrative challenged; this should be very familiar to people.

Notice how when confronted by an opposing viewpoint the panel uses a familiar tactic. Instead of discussing the policy points, the issues at the heart of the policy positions, the panel instead begins to question the person confronting them. “Do you want Ukraine to win,” is one question. “Do you accept the results of the 2020 election” is another.

The CNN panel approach is to make the person pushing back become the issue, because the points raised are antithetical to their belief system. This method of distraction is straight from the Alinsky rulebook about debating opposition. Byron Donalds succeeds because he doesn’t engage the nonsense. WATCH:

” his legal team believes Latham would be forced out of parliament under NSW law”

And that’s the goal, it has nothing to do with a supposed “offensive tweet”, the aim is to force Latham from parliament and it’s the same with the disgusting Faruqi and her legal action against Hanson. The goal is to remove One Nation from parliament, to deprive ordinary Australians of political representation.

I do hope Pauline, who joined in the condemnation of Latham over his factually correct tweet, now regrets joining in the pile on.

Social justice advocates critique McGowan’s Banksia Hill response and use of armed guards to suppress riot
Claire SadlerThe West Australian
Thu, 11 May 2023 5:01PM

A social justice campaigner has been left “disturbed” by the shocking war-like images of prison guards pointing guns at children’s heads during the latest riot at Perth’s notorious Banksia Hill Youth Detention Centre.

“I was really angry when I saw the guns at children’s heads,” Megan Krakouer, right, said. “In terms of our poor children in that prison system right now because that’s what it is. It is a prison system. It’s demeaning, it’s causing more harm than good, it’s making them feel like they are less than human.”

Lawyer Dana Levitt, who represents some of the detainees, also criticised the force used to quell the riot.

“The kids that were held at gunpoint they will be charged with assault of a public officer,” she said.
The riot at Banskia Hill Detention Centre ended after 14 hours when the Justice Department’s special operations group stormed the roof.

“Do you think that any of those guys will be charged with excessive use of force? Not unless someone external to the department does it.”

Stewart Levitt, who is leading a class action lawsuit against the State Government, said the Premier’s approach to Banksia Hill detention centre was atrocious.

“The Premier of WA is using terror against children to achieve some political aims and to curry favour with the redneck constituency who is calling him State daddy and continues to dominate in his quest for popularity at the cost of principle,” he said.

Rita Panahi:

Beer brand Bud Light has learned the hard way that the adage “go woke, go broke” isn’t just a cute line but can quickly become a brutal economic reality.

That’s something for Australian corporates, including professional sporting bodies, to keep in mind as they contemplate involving their brands in the highly contentious and divisive “Voice” debate.

Bud Light, the dominant market leader in the US, has had a horror six weeks after indulging in some reckless corporate virtue-signalling. The company thought it could push LGBTQI activism masquerading as “diversity and inclusion” which would endear it to the Left and increase the brand’s appeal in new markets.

What actually happened was devastating reputational damage coupled with plummeting sales and market value. After initially defending the decision to use trans activist Dylan Mulvaney as a Bud Light ambassador, arguing that the partnership would help to “authentically connect with audiences”, Bud Light brewer Anheuser-Busch – which also makes its full-strength stablemate Budweiser – tried to backtrack madly, but the damage was done.

Within weeks Anheuser-Busch had lost $7.4bn in value as beer drinkers boycotted the brand en masse. The disastrous sales figures have endured.

The damage is so profound that this week financial giant HSBC advised clients not to purchase stock in the beer brand’s parent company because of the “Bud Light crisis”.

It said: “Management’s response to it and the loss of unprecedented volume and brand relevance raises many questions.” HBSC stock analyst Carlos Laboy, who downgraded stock in the parent company, wrote: “Why did its US leadership underestimate the risk of pushback given the recent experience of other firms? Is A-B hiring the best people to grow the brands and gauge risk? If Budweiser and Bud Light are iconic American ideas that have long brought consumers together, why did these marketers fail to invite new consumers without alienating the core base of the firm’s largest brand?”

And that is precisely what happened. In its eagerness to show its “progressive” credentials, the brewer alienated its customer base and made its brand a laughing stock. Teaming up with controversial trans activist Mulvaney – a clownish figure who appears to mock womanhood and has monetised his transition to “girlhood” – was always going to end in tears, but the company’s woke marketing executives were blind to the risk. They have now been placed on leave, perhaps permanently.

Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth published a long statement that seemed apologetic but did not contain the words “sorry” or “apology”. That was a mistake. As was the company’s effort to redeem itself in the eyes of customers by releasing a cringe-worthy ad that pushed every pro-America cliche. No one was buying it.

However, boycotting Bud Light has caused conflict among conservative ranks, with many prominent centre-right folk from Caitlyn Jenner to Donald Trump Jnr urging consumers to stop the boycott and support what has been a good employer and corporate citizen. “I’m not for destroying an American, an iconic, company for something like this,” Trump Jnr said.

But those calls have fallen on deaf ears. Conservatives are sick of handing over their hard-earned to companies that do not share their values and indeed sometimes openly rail against those values.

We saw that phenomenon with the Disney company last year, and Bud Light again demonstrates the danger of toying with political issues that have nothing to do with a company’s core product or service.

For too long, corporates operated under the misapprehension that their Leftist politicking was a cost-free exercise. That is no longer the case. Author and filmmaker Matt Walsh has labelled the backlash against Bud Light and Anheuser-Busch as the most impactful conservative boycott in modern history, and has urged consumers to repeat the behaviour with other companies that promote far Left political or social views.

“We have devastated Bud Light with this boycott,” he wrote. “The great thing is that this was completely grassroots. Many prominent Republicans were actively against the boycott.”

Bud Light’s woes should serve as a warning to Australian corporates who think their political activism will not lead to a consumer backlash.

Insulting or annoying a significant portion of your market is a foolhardy exercise.

Trump’s ’Nut Job’ Accuser Helped Get Law Passed That Allowed Her to Sue Him

BY MATT MARGOLIS

On Tuesday, a jury simultaneously rejected E. Jean Carroll’s allegations of rape against Donald Trump but held him responsible for sexual misconduct and defamation.

One of the more curious aspects of this case was that the only reason Carroll was even able to sue Donald Trump was because of a law passed in New York in 2022 called the Adult Survivors Act.

This legislation, signed by Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul, introduced a “one-year lookback window for survivors of sexual assault” to legally pursue their alleged abusers, irrespective of when the abuse took place.

Many argued it was passed specifically to let Carroll take her absurd allegations to court and punish Trump

It turns out those claims weren’t mere conspiracy theories. In a surprising revelation, E. Jean Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, acknowledged that Carroll played a role in advocating for the passage of the aforementioned law.

“The fact that New York passed this law, the Adult Survivors Act,” CNN’s Poppy Harlow said while interviewing both Carroll and Kaplan. “They passed it just a few years ago. Were it not for that law, you never would have been able to bring this case.”

“Exactly. This would never — I would never have this window, this year of having the ability to bring a lawsuit for rape,” Carroll responded, then pointed to her attorney and said. “Robbie can explain it better.”

“Well, E. Jean actually helped to get that law passed,” Kaplan admitted.

“It passed last year. We filed – it was Thanksgiving Day, the first day you could sue. We filed it just after midnight on Thanksgiving. And there are a lot of other women throughout the state and, hopefully, throughout this country, that they will get other laws like this passed in other states.

And New York women should use this law while it’s still around, which is until next Thanksgiving.”

This is interesting. Her attorney admitted on national television that E. Jean Carroll actively participated in advocating for the passage of the law, which ultimately allowed her to file a case against Trump in November, mere days after he announced his presidential campaign.

It’s also worth noting here that that lawsuit was reportedly funded by billionaire Democrat donor Reid Hoffman.

So not only was the civil suit a politically motivated attack, but it was also an attack that required an act of the Democrat-controlled New York State legislature and the Democrat governor of New York to make it possible.

Does that sit well with you? Just how corrupt is this conspiracy to get Trump? Among other things, we’ve seen the Russian collusion hoax, two impeachments, the bogus Bragg case, and now this.

Leaked Emails Show Biden Administration Protected China During Spy Balloon-gate

A recent report from Reuters alleges that Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who has already been implicated in several scandals, was purportedly prioritizing the interests of the Chinese Communist Party.

The report, supported by leaked emails and inside sources, proves what many on the right feared all along: Joe Biden was far more concerned about not offending China than our national security.

“When an alleged Chinese spy balloon traversed the United States in February, some U.S. officials were confident the incursion would galvanize the U.S. bureaucracy to push forward a slate of actions to counter China,” reports Reuters. “Instead, the U.S. State Department held back human rights-related sanctions, export controls and other sensitive actions to try to limit damage to the U.S.-China relationship, according to four sources with direct knowledge of U.S. policy, as well as internal emails seen by Reuters.”

Despite the State Department’s expression of dissatisfaction regarding the spy balloon incident, which led to the postponement of Blinken’s intended visit to Beijing, an internal communication within the State Department, examined by Reuters, reveals that senior U.S. officials deliberately delayed planned measures against China.

Rick Waters, the deputy assistant secretary of State for China and Taiwan, who oversees the Office of China Coordination (“China House”), conveyed in an email to the staff on Feb. 6, which has not been previously disclosed: “Guidance from S (Secretary of State) is to push non-balloon actions to the right so we can focus on symmetric and calibrated response. We can revisit other actions in a few weeks.”

The sources said many measures have yet to be revived. The decision to postpone export licensing rules for telecom equipment maker Huawei and sanctions against Chinese officials for abuses of Uyghurs has damaged morale at China House, they said.

President Joe Biden’s administration has sought to prevent a further deterioration in ties with China’s Communist government, which many analysts say have hit the lowest point since they began in 1979.

So, rather than punishing China for its flagrant violation U.S. airspace, Blinken instructed his subordinates to temporarily halt significant measures concerning human rights and trade. This included not only halting previously planned sanctions on Chinese tech companies like Huawei, but also addressing China’s persecution of the Uyghur population.

According to sources who spoke to Reuters and who requested anonymity due to concerns about potential consequences, Blinken has largely entrusted the responsibilities of shaping China policy to his Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy Sherman.

Sherman is the second-highest-ranking diplomat in the United States and was a key player in the Biden administration’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal.

It is a prison system. It’s demeaning, it’s causing more harm than good, it’s making them feel like they are less than human.”

Perhaps those vicious little thugs could be taught to treat each other and their neighbours decently, and discover what it means to be fully human. Eh Aunty Megan?

Work shut down on Australia’s biggest wind farm

Mark Ludlow and Liam Walsh

Billionaire Andrew Forrest’s signature renewable energy project, the $3 billion Clarke Creek wind farm in central Queensland, has been put on hold and workers on site told to “demobilise”.

Touted as the largest renewables project in the southern hemisphere, the 450-megawatt wind farm – which includes 100 turbines – is being built by Dr Forrest’s private company, Squadron Energy.

Contractors and subcontractors working on the site, 150 kilometres north-west of Rockhampton and 150 kilometres south of Mackay, were told on Wednesday night to stop work and take equipment from the site.

A source with knowledge of the project said the move was related to “a change in strategic direction”, with Squadron Energy taking over as project manager from Windlab.

It is understood there was a clause in the contract that allowed Windlab to be dismissed as project manager without a “just cause”. The purchase of CWP Renewables last year has given Squadron Energy the expertise to take control of construction of the project, which would involve a change in personnel.

The source rejected suggestions the shutdown was related to safety or cultural heritage, saying there would not be a significant delay to the project, which is expected to export power to the grid by 2025.

Still, the move to change contractors mid-project is unusual. One industry source said the call to demobilise was significantly different from a temporary stand-down.

Trial run

Dr Forrest became one of Australia’s biggest owners of renewable energy assets last year with the aquisition of CWP, giving Squadron massive reach into NSW and adding to renewable assets that already have 2.4 gigawatts of capacity and an Australian development pipeline of 20GW.

Dr Forrest is also a 75 per cent owner of Windlab.

Earlier this month, Squadron Energy undertook a trial run of moving the 76-metre, 100-tonne turbines from the Port of Gladstone to Marlborough – a 300-kilometre journey.

Squadron Energy, Dr Forrest’s private company, bought the Clarke Creek wind farm off Goldwind and Lacour last year.

The Fortescue Metals founder is keen to build a clean energy hub in central Queensland which will also link to the $1 billion electrolyser factory which one of his other companies, Fortescue Future Industries, is building in Gladstone.

After the purchase last year, Dr Forrest said the Clarke Creek hub would be the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere, producing enough wind, solar and battery energy to power more than 660,000 Queensland homes, and would export lower-cost electricity directly into the National Electricity Market.

“It’s a significant new power source and that’s going to increase the supply and push down power prices for every single Queenslander,” Dr Forrest told The Australian Financial Review in February last year.

Dr Forrest said the project was a critical part of the nine-fold increase in wind and solar capacity that was needed to help Australia reach net zero emissions by 2050.

Construction of the project started last year, with the stage one to have a total capacity of 450MW and include 100 turbines.

It is aiming to start exporting electricity by 2025, with a 15-year power purchase agreement to supply 346.5 MW to state-owned energy company Stanwell Corporation.

The project is being built on the land of the Barada Kabalbara Yetimarala people, with 76,300 hectares across eight private landholdings.

Heritage issues have popped up elsewhere for Dr Forrest.

Fortescue Metals Group has been entangled in a legal dispute with some traditional owners about its creation of the Solomon iron ore mining hub in Western Australia’s resource-rich Pilbara.

Traditional owners represented by the Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation have argued they suffered hurt and loss by what they allege was Fortescue destroying significant sites.

Fortescue has instead supported a breakaway traditional owner corporation there, while negotiating agreements with other traditional owner groups in the Pilbara on the basis of non-exclusive rights.

Russian military clarifies frontline situation in Ukraine

Moscow has denied earlier social media reports of Kiev’s advances

The Russian Defense Ministry has denied rumors of a large-scale Ukrainian counterattack, noting in a statement late on Thursday that the situation along most of the frontline appeared to be relatively calm, with the only heavy fighting in and near Artyomovsk, also known as Bakhmut.

“Reports by certain Telegram channels of ‘breaches of defenses’ in several places along the line of contact are not accurate,” the ministry said around 11 pm Moscow time. “The general situation in the area of the special military operation is under control.”

According to the Russian military, the last remaining part of Artyomovsk was being stormed with air force and artillery support, while there was an “ongoing battle” to repel the attack of Ukrainian units in the direction of Malo-Ilyinkovka, northwest of the city, with “heavy enemy casualties in lives and equipment.”

Eight Ukrainian attacks and three attempts at reconnaissance in force were repelled on the Donetsk front, the Russian military said. Russian forces continue efforts to take all of Marynka and blockade Avdeevka.

Ukrainian troops attempted two company-sized attacks towards Kremennaya but were repulsed. Three scouting parties were defeated further north, near Kupyansk. The ministry first said there had been no “active operations” on Kherson or Zaporozhye fronts in the south, but later published a list of Ukrainian losses on the Kherson front from Russian artillery, and reported shooting down 12 HIMARS rockets and a Su-25 ground attack jet.

Earlier in the day, multiple military correspondents had reported that the Ukrainian counter-offensive might have started, with a “breakthrough” near Artyomovsk and several attacks all along the frontline. One reporter cited military sources to claim the Ukrainians had used chemical weapons at a stretch of the Zaporozhye front as well.

Kiev has not commented on Thursday’s movements so far. Earlier in the day, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky claimed his military still needed more time to prepare before the long-awaited spring attack.

The fake “hybrid warfare” of the Censorship Industrial Complex

By Jo Nova

Matt Taibbi and a team of writers have created a 70 page report on the “information cartel” — the new conglomerate cabal of Big Money, Big Government and Big Tech that wants to censor and nudge you into servitude and obedience.

Facebook promptly censored his report on censorship. Taibbi tweeted that out, and Facebook realized they were proving his point, and reversed it. It was “just a bug” said a Facebook executive, unconvincingly.

From the Comments

– David, many moons ago I was an avid reader of the US edition MAD magazine.
In one edition as I recall they had some stickers, one that stood out for me was a two liner (paraphrased).
First line in very large font

THERE IS NO MAFIA

Second line smaller font

And we will kill anyone who says there is

– David,

Even the teaching of Maths in Australia smells of built in bias.

Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers

First mission statement in the footer:

AAMT acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land where we work and live. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

We celebrate the stories, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders of all communities who also work and live on this land.

And by the way:

AAMT supports educators and learners to achieve excellence in mathematics teaching and learning.

How to handle the new technologies:

As more digital learning materials are developed that contain ‘stealth’ assessments of learning, an evidence-based
approach to weaving assessments directly into learning environments,
equity of access to the software, and to professional learning to ensure
appropriate interpretation and use of such resources, will increase
in importance.

Let’s not forget the critical areas:

Be fair to students
Many of the expectations of teachers about fairness in assessment are
also applicable to the programs of education authorities. Minimising
gender bias and bias related to students’ social and cultural backgrounds are critical areas for these programs to address, and it needs
to be seen that they are being addressed. The contexts used in assessment items should be accessible to students through their own “local”
familiarity, or as a result of explicit teaching that ensures appropriate
familiarity. In addition, programs should also take account of the likely
literacy levels of students and provide access to the mathematics
of the tasks without having unrealistic expectations of the student
literacy levels.

And here was me believing assessment of mathematics at these levels was a right or wrong answer with potentially part marks for the workings.

So the question is how does this manufactured ‘tripe’ infest an organisation and dominate the structure of its website and the direction of its discussion.

The other was Federal Health pushing latest Vax update.

A Few Thoughts about the CNN townhall with Trump

Few of his supporters were surprised to learn that Trump was going to do a sit-down in New Hampshire for CNN.

The man does not shy away from potential political disasters; he thrives on them, runs straight at them, unafraid.

Why? Because he always comes out of these things having won bigly.

Not only is he quick thinking and knowledgeable when it comes to the facts on all the relevant issues, he is gloriously entertaining, verbally and visually. His facial expressions and gestures say as much he does with words.

The CNN sit-down Wednesday night was no exception. Host Kaitlan Colllins clearly thought she would have the upper hand.

Coming from the bubble of leftist propaganda that is CNN’s principal reason for being, of course she believed she would be the hero of the event.

But she got her comeuppance within the first few minutes. She acted the fool and Trump does not suffer fools, he eviscerates them with a smile on his face.

He certainly got the better of Kaitlan Collins despite her rude, smug arrogance. She set a new record for dismissive interviews. She forgot that Trump has had years and years of experience with boorish and ignorant pretend journalists who hate, loathe and despise him.

She clearly has no experience with an outlier with so many IQ points on her.

With each question she aimed to embarrass him, to humiliate him. But she had no actual facts, not when it came to protecting schools, the Second Amendment, the documents stored at Mar-A-Lago, the event of January 6, 2021, the border wall, school shootings (she exaggerated wildly), etc.

She had what she thought were facts but were just Democrat talking points. For example, Trump noted that the man who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt, Michael Byrd, bragged about having done it, which he did. He said that killing her saved lives! Collins tried to deny that fact.

She accused Trump of not keeping his promise to build the wall! He did, despite the Democrats’ fevered attempts to stop it. It stopped the day Biden took office, as did the new pipelines and drilling that had provided energy independence for us.

In short, Collins was overconfident, prepared to crush the man, but he crushed her with some delightful facial mockery and without lifting his little finger. Collins is the new Candy Crowley of CNN. It was a very entertaining interview.

Every time Trump mentioned the 2020 election, she interrupted to say words to the effect of, “There was no fraud Mr. President.” There was, of course, but she, like the rest of the left, has avoided looking at the volumes of evidence from the beginning. It’s a safe bet that Collins has never read the Navarro Report or any of the other countless reports that prove fraud, the same forms of fraud that affected the 2022 elections. Katie Hobbs, for example, did not win the governorship of Arizona. At one point, Trump looked at her and told her she is a “very nasty person.” She was indeed.

There was tremendous satisfaction in watching him vanquish her while she still thought she had the upper hand.

Ah, the hubris of youth. So robbed of critical thinking skills, without any wisdom that comes with age, blinded by their own self-importance, they don’t see their defeat until it buries them. Kaitlan Collins got buried tonight.

Needless to say, the audience loved Trump. He took some very good questions from the audience, each of them more thoughtful than any Collins asked.

Given Trump’s age, she perhaps expected a man with Biden’s impaired abilities and assumed she could and would mortify Trump with her meant-to-embarrass questions and mis-statements of fact.

She failed. He embarrassed her. He got a standing ovation at the end, which he certainly deserved.

It was clear from the outset that Collins was outmatched. Even AOC saw that it was trainwreck. She tweeted early in the hour:

They have lost total control of this “town hall” to again be manipulated into platforming election disinformation, defenses of Jan 6th, and a public attack on a sexual abuse victim. The audience is cheering him on and laughing at the host.

EMF RADIATION TEST shows that SITTING IN AN ELECTRIC Car.

It’s LIKE STANDING NEAR A RUNNING MICROWAVE.

Old mate is measuring EMF power density and Hmm?-ing the risks to be the same.

However, EMF health risk is proportional to frequency. For any given level of radiated power, the higher the frequency of the magnetic field the higher the health risk.

Microwave ovens operate at about 2.4 GHz (2.4 billion Hz) – a frequency specifically chosen to stimulate water molecules, and thus likely to be harmful to carelessly exposed human beans.

By contrast, systems within EV’s emit EMF at a variety of frequencies – measured in the range of 10 Hz to 300 Hz.

Thus for the same level of radiated power as a microwave oven, an EV is a teeny weeny fraction as harmful.
Or, not harmful at all.

Verdict: Trusted Blogger status confirmed.

For any given level of radiated power, the higher the frequency of the magnetic field the higher the health risk.

MRIs don’t seem to do much damage, less even than PETs or simple X rays. A MRI is putting yourself through an enormous electromagnetic field (up to 7 T) which is so strong it flips the atomic nuclei in your body over onto their sides. Then when the nuclei flip back they radiate photons, which are what are turned into the image.

(I used nuclear magnetic resonance a lot in my postgrad work. It’s really cool! I’m still alive, also.)

Withdrawing his suggestion that it was “possible if not probable” that there was a political conspiracy to stop the case proceeding, Mr Drumgold told the inquiry on Thursday that instead “my current view, having read all the police statements, is it was most likely a skills deficit on the part of investigators”.

On Friday Mr Drumgold said that what he meant was that he’d read “all of the sum I have” and he only received the police statements last Wednesday before being in court on Thursday and Friday.

“I’m not being tricky,” he said.

“All has to be qualified by all the statements I had.”

Eurovision 2023: Ukraine’s President Zelensky Banned From Addressing Contest Audience Of Millions

Ukraine was unable to host the 67th Eurovision Song Contest due to the war taking place inside the country. Now President Zelensky has been banned by event owners from addressing the huge audience at the event.

The Times reports that the Ukrainian president had asked to make an appearance during the Grand Final on Saturday May 13th, but his request has been rejected.

The paper reports that Zelensky had been expected to press for international support for his country in the face of Russia’s ongoing invasion, but that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has always insisted that no political statements be made during the performances – something enforced by the EBU’s ‘Reference Group’ – and this extends to speeches beyond the music.

An EBU spokesperson said:

“The Eurovision Song Contest is an international entertainment show and governed by strict rules and principles which have been established since its creation. As part of these, one of the cornerstones of the contest is the non-political nature of the event.

“This principle prohibits the possibility of making political or similar statements as part of the contest. The request by Mr Zelensky to address the audience at the Eurovision Song Contest, whilst made with laudable intentions, regrettably cannot be granted as it would be against the rules of the event.”

Looking at Drumgold unravelling, I’m now thinking the ALP/Green ACT government must be kicking themselves.

Back then it must have looked like a satisfying political bear hunt for Peter Dutton – who was fingered by Brinny during the trial as a terrifying eminence grise, then controversially in cahoots with the AFP as the Minister in charge:

Higgins said she had shared those audio files with as many people as possible before deleting them from her phone. She did that because she was worried about what the police might do with the contents, the court heard.

Whybrow asked her whether she was concerned police would try to “suppress” what was on her phone.

She said she was concerned that information might be passed to the office of the then home affairs minister, Peter Dutton.

Be a real shame if it turned out that Brinny had been worded up on the Dutton Gestapo, say by an ALP handler, possibly traceable back to a Mean Girl.

It used to be understood as good manners not to raise politics in casual conversation because it is polarising. And it went without saying that you didn’t also demand that everyone agree with you or else they are literally Hitler.

I have great faith in our businesses in Australia. Faith that they will not learn this lesson at all.

Worrying sign Australia’s housing crisis is about to deepen

It’s a small detail in Labor’s budget, but this number could set the path for Australia’s housing crisis and it’s a worrying forecast.

While the nation hand-wrings over one of the worst housing shortages in history, buried in the appendix of Budget Paper 3 was the Federal Government’s official net overseas migration (NOM) forecast, which has been aggressively increased.

Below is the NOM table from the October 2022 federal budget, which forecast 235,000 NOM each year over the four-year forward estimates:

And here is the revised NOM forecast from Tuesday’s federal budget:

NOM is now expected to hit a record high of 400,000 in 2022-23 before falling to 315,000 in 2023-24. Then it will fall to 260,000, where it will stay over the forward estimates.

Thus, the latest budget has locked in a permanently higher NOM that is 25,000 higher than the 235,000 projection contained in the previous budget, the 2021 Intergenerational Report, and the 2023 Population Statement.

For all the claims made by Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil that Labor is not delivering a ‘Big Australia’, the federal budget’s latest forecasts certainly say otherwise.

This projected long-term NOM of 260,000 is 40,000 higher than the ‘Big Australia’ immigration the nation experienced in the 15 years leading up to the pandemic, which averaged around 220,000 a year:

This ramp-up in immigration has been engineered by the Albanese Government via:

• extending the number of hours students can work and the length of their stay in Australia after graduation

• employing 500 people to clear the “one million” visa backlog as quickly as possible

• lifting the annual permanent non-humanitarian migrant intake to a record high of 195,000 (from 160,000)

• easing entry requirements for Indian students and workers

Five Canberra’s worth of population in five years

The absurdity of Australia’s housing predicament is neatly encapsulated by the federal budget’s population forecasts, which are outlined in the table below:

Australia’s population is officially projected to increase by 2.18 million people in the five years to 2026-27, or by an average of 435,200 people each year.

America Continues Down the Drain – American Amish at Work

Four teens ‘looking for victims’ charged with the murder of Chicago police officer

Chicago has some serious problems. This story involves four teenagers between the ages of 16 and 19 who went out looking for people to rob one night and wound up murdering a 24-year-old police officer named Aréanah Preston – American Amish.

“These individuals went out looking for victims in the overnight hours of Friday into Saturday morning and are connected to multiple robberies and a motor vehicle theft earlier that morning,” said Interim Chicago Police Supt. Eric Carter.

Preston, who was still in uniform following her shift, was returning home just after 1 a.m. in the 8100 block of South Blackstone Avenue.

That’s when police alleged at least three of the four teens got out of a stolen vehicle and ran towards the officer while armed.

One person allegedly began shooting and Preston returned fire.

Preston was hit twice and the teens stole her gun and fled the scene. The city’s ShotSpotter picked up the gunshots but for some reason it took half an hour for police to respond.

Anthony Riccio, the retired first deputy police superintendent, said it appears there was a backlog of calls and “the dispatcher didn’t have a car to assign to the ShotSpotter alert.”…

“Had somebody gotten there sooner,” he added, “it may have had a different outcome certainly.”

The ShotSpotter alert came in at 1:43 a.m., and a dispatcher alerted officers over police radio that nine rounds had been detected in the 8100 block of South Blackstone Avenue.

Nearly 20 minutes later, a dispatcher came over the radio to report that an Apple Watch had alerted a traffic crash in the same block. The watch belonged to Preston, sources said.

Ultimately it was a traffic cop responding to the report of a car accident who discovered Preston’s body.

It’s not clear if she was still alive after the shooting but a 30 minute delay certainly seems like too long for an injured person to wait.

Police later learned the identities of the killers when the 16-year-old bragged to a friend about the murder.

The teens had been out trying to rob people because one of their girlfriends wanted to buy a barbecue grill.

They had apparently robbed five other people before they encountered Officer Preston. The 16-year-old claimed that they had sold Preston’s gun.

Oakland Baker and Activist Jen Angel Dies After Being Injured During a Violent Robbery

Jen Angel, a local activist and the owner and baker of Angel Cakes, believed in a world that was safer and fairer for all

Jen Angel, owner and operator of Oakland bakery Angel Cakes, died on February 9 due to injuries sustained in a violent robbery.

Angel was known not only as a maker of outstanding pies and treats, but also as a longtime organizer of the Anarchist Book Fair and a member of the Occupy Wall Street movement. The East Bay activist, writer, anarchist, and entrepreneur was declared to have lost all brain function by her medical team at Highland Hospital in Oakland on February 9. She was 48 years old.

In a statement on a GoFundMe launched to raise funds for medical costs,

Angel’s family says that because of her political beliefs, they do not feel she would have wanted to see the people who attacked her prosecuted with a crime. Restorative justice, a framework Angel supported, is based on the idea that victims and perpetrators of harm should arbitrate and mediate to determine appropriate atonement and amendment, rather than defaulting to traditional forms of punishment including incarceration.

In the statement, the family asks supporters to not “advance putting public resources into policing, incarceration, or other state violence that perpetuates the cycles of violence that resulted in this tragedy.”

Angel was attacked and injured on February 6 as she was running errands in her car in Oakland. Two thieves blocked her car’s way out of a Wells Fargo parking lot and reached into her vehicle, stealing her property through the window. Angel gave chase on foot and in the ensuing scuffle her clothing got stuck in the thieves’ car door. The San Francisco Chronicle reports she was dragged more than 50 feet and sustained serious injuries to her brain.

China’s mysterious space plane returns to Earth after 9-month orbital mission

The robotic vehicle stayed aloft for 276 days on its second orbital flight.

The second orbital mission of China’s robotic space plane has come to a close.

The mysterious reusable vehicle touched down Monday (May 8) at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China, wrapping up a 276-day mission to Earth orbit, according to China’s state-run Xinhua news agency.

“The success of the experiment marks an important breakthrough in China’s research on reusable spacecraft technologies, which will provide more convenient and affordable round-trip methods for the peaceful use of space in the future,” Xinhua wrote in a brief update on Monday(opens in new tab).

The space plane launched from Jiuquan on Aug. 4, 2022, kicking off a mission short on details but long on intrigue.

On Oct. 31, for example, the vehicle ejected something into orbit. Some experts speculated(opens in new tab) that the object was a service module, possibly indicating that the space plane was getting ready to return to Earth.

Others posited that the new free flyer was a small satellite(opens in new tab) designed to monitor the Chinese space plane — perhaps the correct guess, given how much longer the robotic spacecraft stayed aloft.

The Chinese space plane’s first orbital mission, which took place in September 2020, lasted just two days.

Western experts think the vehicle is roughly similar to the U.S. Space Force’s robotic X-37B, which is about 29 feet (8.8 meters) long. The U.S. military is similarly tight-lipped about the X-37B, which has flown six orbital missions to date, the longest of which lasted 909 days.

In the 2024 election, guard the dinosaurs.
Yes, I mean dinosaurs.
Really.

Culprit behind destruction of New York’s first dinosaur museum revealed (Phys.org, 11 May)

A new paper from the University of Bristol rewrites the history of the darkest, most bizarre event in the history of paleontology.

In New York, in May of 1871, the partially built, life-size models of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures destined for a prestigious new museum in Central Park were totally destroyed in a violent act of malicious vandalism by a gang of thugs with sledgehammers. The shattered pieces were carted away and buried somewhere in the park, never to be seen again.

Until now, the heinous act had been attributed to former American politician William “Boss” Tweed.

But now, a new paper from Victoria Coules of Bristol’s Department of History of Art and Professor Michael Benton of Bristol’s School of Earth Sciences sheds new light on the incident and, contrary to previous accounts, identifies who was really behind the order and what drove them to such wanton destruction—an odd man known as Henry Hilton, the Treasurer and VP of Central Park.

So as you do I looked up Henry Hilton. There’s a wiki:

In 1862 he is listed on the rolls of the Tammany Society.[3]

Yep, he and Boss Tweed were Democrat Party rivals in Tammany Hall, which stole elections for decades. For some reason they didn’t like dinosaurs. I have no idea why.

The Victorian Liberals make me physically sick.

From The Oz

Wow, they’re trying to gag Renee Heath. What do the Victorian Liberals say to pesky conservative women, “know thy place woman”, how biblical.

Moira Deeming has officially been expelled from the Victorian parliamentary Liberal Party, and Renee Heath has confirmed she is no longer party secretary.

Ms Heath was among a group of Deeming supporters who were the first to emerge from the party-room meeting.

She did not comment other than to confirm she is no longer secretary.
The motion to expel Ms Deeming passed 19 votes to 11, as did the motion concerning Heath.

Tennis player-turned-MP Sam Groth says today’s vote has offered “a real chance to draw a line in the sand for the party now.”

“We’ve had a meeting. We’re going to move forward. We’re going to get behind John and I think it’s a chance for us now, as I’ve said, right from the start of this whole drama, it’s time for the Liberal Party to start being a viable option … and a different alternative government for Victoria, and it’s time the party becomes united and we gather behind John today and do what is best for the state.”

Lobsters are killing the planet.

Study shines spotlight on threats from lost fishing gear (Phys.org, 11 May)

Team members, who published their findings in Marine Pollution Bulletin, also collected almost 5,000 kilograms of assorted gear from seven shoreline searches. Of this, lobster traps made up 68 percent and dragger cable constituted 12 percent. [The graph is fun!]

“Ghost gear continues to degrade the environment through marine pollution, but it also poses threats to target and non-target species, including those at risk,” says co-author Dr. Tony Walker, an associate professor in Dal’s School for Resource and Environmental Studies.

The researchers stress that ghost gear may be intentionally dumped, but that much of it is likely caused by accidental loss following storms or gear failures.

During 997 tows, the team also brought in buckets, party balloons, a chain, a bicycle tire, an engine block, a fan belt, and an aquaculture net and one of its weights. They also found aquaculture netting, “ultimately informing us that they can also be major contributors to the marine debris problem,” says Fulton.

Not sure how you can use engine blocks and bicycle tyres to catch lobsters. But, then, I’m not Canadian.

RICHARD LITTLEJOHN: Now calling criminals ‘convicts’ is ‘offensive’. Instead they must be called as ‘persons of lived experience’ – even if they are murderers. Welcome to Porridge, 2023-style…

Norman Stanley Fletcher, you have pleaded guilty to the charges brought before this court and it is now my duty to pronounce sentence.

‘You are an habitual person of lived experience, who accepts arrest as an occupational hazard and presumably accepts imprisonment in the same casual manner.

‘However, since the offences to which you have admitted guilt are all considered to be non-violent, I must pass the maximum term allowed. You are free to go.’

Welcome to Porridge, 2023-style. According to the woke bureaucrats at the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) criminals must no longer be called ‘convicts’.

Apparently, the term is deemed offensive. The correct way to describe them is ‘persons of lived experience’, even if that lived experience involves everything from armed robbery to murder.

The awe inspiring headline showing the racisty racist racists of Australia!!!

Racism is contributing to unsubstantiated child protection reports, Victorian commission hears
Department says only about 40% of notifications regarding First Nations people qualify for investigation

Lets play “the person reporting this is an innumerate buffoon, and the “comission” trumpeting it are a bunch of mongs who dont realise the evidence tendered shows the opposite of what they intend…

About 60% of child protection notifications for Victorian First Nations families are unsubstantiated, with the state’s department of families acknowledging racism is a contributing factor in some reports.

While the rate is comparable to non-Indigenous children, a senior department official told the state’s Indigenous truth inquiry that discrimination against Indigenous families contributed to notifications that did not meet the threshold for investigation.

The department’s figures showed there were over 11,000 reports of First Nations children to the department in the 2021-22 financial year. In the same time period 404 reports were made about unborn First Nations children.
The acting associate secretary at the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, Argiri Alisandratos, told the Yoorrook justice commission that about 40% of child protection reports about First Nations people in the 2021-22 financial year required action.
…..
For non-Indigenous children, 71% of notifications do not meet the threshold for investigation.

So higher reports, but the same % of substantiation seems to indicate that (to be blunt) Aboriginal people are 10 times worse than all others at looking after their kids.

Thats not me saying that, thats the evidence at their own commission which they wish to use to show racism.

11,000 reports with a substantiation rate of 40% is 4,400 potential (these are reports to the stage of investigation of some sort) neglected kids.
for the category “everyone else in Victoria” the numbers were 52,115 notifications, but I need to subtract the Aboriginal component out, so 41,000 reports (round figures)

Now this says there are 66,000 Aboriginal Victorians, or 1% of the population of the state. (6.681 million)

If I get the rate of reports vs the rate of the rest of the population as 40% (as they say themselves- similar substantiation of reports) then Aboriginals are (and if Im going to be accused as a group, Ill lash back at the group making the claims) about phenomenally more likely to abuse/neglect their kids.
Ive done a back of the envelope calculation of 400%, but that seems an incredible huge number
1% of the population making 40% of notifications is 40% x 100?
Or is my math failing me today?

The AFR View

Who can now say we don’t need a tax review?

When Dr Chalmers hints at ‘difficult decisions’ next year, that should be code not for tax increases but the comprehensive tax reform package that the Financial Review has long advocated.

Perhaps surprisingly, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is rebuffing the temptation in his party to scrap some of the previous Coalition government’s legislated stage three tax cuts for a broad span of workers – cuts that Labor previously has vowed to honour.

Mr Albanese is right to do so. While damned by many left-progressives as an obscene gift to the undeserving wealthy, the tax cuts are not “cuts” at all. Mostly they return tax increases generated by stealth as inflation pushes more Australians into higher tax brackets.

Not correcting for this imposes higher incentive-blunting penalties on income generation.

That puts too much of the tax burden onto the “aspiration” that Mr Albanese says he wants to encourage, and which is needed to revive the economy’s productivity slowdown and pay for Labor’s social spending.

As the PM underlines, the stage three tax cuts apply to those earning as little as $45,000 a year.

In contrast, the Greens, some on Labor’s backbench and the welfare lobby are demanding that Mr Albanese revoke his tax pledge to middle Australia in order to fund out-of-control social programs that are crowding out the opportunity to protect the least advantaged from the cost-of-living squeeze.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers’ forecast $4 billion surplus, however temporary, has encouraged the idea that there is always more money to go round.

If not, then scrapping tax cuts for the so-called wealthy is just an extension of the budget’s tax slug on smokers, gas exporters, multinational companies and rich superannuants.

Dr Chalmers’ second budget already is floating in a sea of unexpected tax takings that would have delivered at least a one-off surplus even if the treasurer had not done anything in the past year.

Post-pandemic bonanza

Tuesday night’s budget estimates that the government this year will raise $636 billion, a whopping $150 billion more than forecast for 2022-23 in the October 2020 pandemic budget.

That’s $70 billion more than forecast even in the budget before the global pandemic hit. Along with bracket creep, it has been driven by post-pandemic labour shortages and a war-driven boom in coal and gas exports.

Forecast personal income tax collections have been revised up by $74 billion over the five years from 2022-23 to 2026-27, as overall tax receipts are set to hit the Morrison government’s cap of 23.9 per cent of GDP.

For the first time, individual taxpayers will foot more than 50 per cent of federal tax revenue.

The income tax bonanza wave drives home the point that tax reformers have been making for more than a decade: the tax system relies too much on taxing personal income and profits. Australia’s top marginal income tax rate of 45 per cent (plus the Medicare levy) is high by international standards. It kicks in at a relatively low income of $180,000.

Paul Keating, Labor’s most formidable treasurer, stressed the importance of incentive when he said that the top rate must not go higher than 40 per cent.

The political failure to front up to comprehensive tax reform that reduces the excess burden on income is undermining the economy’s capacity to generate income in the first place.

Former Treasury secretary Ken Henry says it’s worse than when he was commissioned more than a decade ago by Dr Chalmers’ political mentor, Wayne Swan, to head a tax review whose report was mostly shelved.

In October last year, Dr Chalmers flew a kite in support of scaling back the promised stage three tax cuts that, among other things, would leave the great bulk of Australian workers losing no more than 30 per cent of every extra dollar they earned to the Tax Office.

Mr Albanese indulged the argument for days before shooting down his treasurer’s kite, deciding it was too early to break a promise so soon after being elected.

When Dr Chalmers hints at “difficult decisions” next year, that should be code not for tax increases but the comprehensive tax reform package that The Australian Financial Review called for both parties to commit to before the election. That could make everybody better off.

Dr. David Martin is here to talk about his lecture at the Third Annual European Parliament International Covid Summit.
The Virus that eventually became Covid-19 has a long history of being modified and made more deadly with each new generation.
In 2005, the U.S. government introduced a technology platform for biological weapons.
In 1967 the United States began collaborating with Great Britain to take pathogens across the Atlantic to infect British citizens.
In 1992, while at UNC Chapel Hill, Ralph Baric figured out how to modify viruses to target different kinds of tissue.
This eventually led to injections that would be advertised as vaccines but in truth would be used for genetic modification.
Experimental gene therapies are not authorized under the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act and the PREP Act.
Covid-19 was an influenza like illness, wasn’t new, and has been known for decades.
Between 2016 and 2018 every study that was done by Ralph Baric on the Corona virus said vaccines were not effective at stopping the disease.
The World Economic Forum has a transhumanist agenda but they will ultimately fail because they are not God.
Eventually the truth will be revealed and we will find that the University of North Carolina’s “infectious replication defective clone” patent, which they filed in 2002, was nothing more than a fear tactic to get the public to accept a gene therapy.

A couple who sparked outrage after appearing on national TV to complain about struggling on Centrelink have been spotted going about their leisurely daily routine.

Mark Goodrick, a chef who said there’s no point working full-time, looked relaxed on Thursday as he surfaced at 10.15am at his family’s luxury apartment block on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

After a 15-minute chat with a neighbour he then drove his Toyota HiLux ute – one of the family’s two cars – to a local cafe where he spent a leisurely hour-and-a-half reading at a corner table before returning home.

Earlier that morning his wife Jennifer Searson drove their 15-year-old daughter to her $8,375-year private school and was home again by 8.40am.

Ms Searson, a lab technician who is certified in education support and business administration, is on a carer’s payment because her daughter has autism.

This makes her eligible to receive a maximum of $971.50 a fortnight.

Mr Goodrick works casually at a service station and earns about $1,300 a fortnight. On top of that he gets $250 from Centrelink, bringing his fortnightly pay to nearly $1,600.

This week’s federal budget will see him receiving even more money, with JobSeeker increasing by another $40-a-fortnight, which is $2.86 per day.

Neither have worked full-time since moving from Sydney in 2018 in search of a more affordable life.

The Swiss People Vote Over The Ban on Cashless Society

Just like in Germany and Austria, cash is still important in Switzerland, although its share in transactions has decreased. However, soon the Swiss will have the opportunity to vote on whether to keep banknotes and coins in circulation permanently.

Last week, news emerged that received little attention outside of Switzerland. The media in the UK, USA, France, Germany, and Spain barely covered it.

The Swiss Freedom Movement announced last week that it had collected enough signatures – a total of 111,000 – to hold a referendum on whether to keep cash in Swiss society for future generations. If it passes, the government must ensure that banknotes and coins are always available in sufficient quantities. In addition, the draft bill proposes a vote on whether the government wants to replace the Swiss franc with another currency, possibly referring to the central bank’s digital currency, as reported by Naked Capitalism.

According to Reuters, “Swiss citizens will have the opportunity to ensure that their economy will never be cashless,” says the campaign group. “Enough signatures have been collected to hold a referendum on the subject on Monday.”

The Swiss Freedom Movement says that cash plays a diminishing role in many economies because societies are becoming increasingly digital, and mainly transfers are used, which makes it easier for the government to track the movement of citizens’ money.

The draft bill proposes adding a clause to the Swiss Currency Act, requiring the central bank and government to ensure an adequate supply of banknotes and coins and that they always remain in circulation.

Under the Swiss direct democracy system, if the draft bill is approved in the vote, it becomes law. However, the government and parliament can decide how to implement the law.

The importance of cash

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) points out that cash has three unique advantages.

Firstly,

cash makes managing money easy and clear. Controlling spending is easier with cash and coins. To assess whether you can make additional expenses, you just need to open your wallet. Parents give their children pocket money in cash, and there are good reasons for that. Using payment terminals, you only see how much money will be taken from your plastic card in the future.

Secondly,

cash is easy to use, allowing everyone to participate in the economy and social life. You do not need an account or mobile phone to pay with coins and banknotes. You also do not need to be familiar with digital technologies.

Thirdly,

when you pay in cash, you do not have to disclose your personal information, such as name or card number. With electronic payments, a person’s payment history is recorded.

More Budget 2023/24 news:

To help meet the cost of sustainably funding the biosecurity system, a new biosecurity protection levy on all domestic agricultural, fisheries and forestry producers will commence on 1 July 2024. This levy will collect an amount equivalent to 10 per cent of 2020-21 levy rates or another comparable metric where such levies are not in place.

Based on levy rates as at 1 July 2020:
• A cattle (grass fed) producer will pay an extra $0.5 or 50 cents per head (cattle and livestock (producers) charge)
• A cotton producer will pay an extra $0.225 or 22.5 cents per 227kg bale (cotton levy)
• An egg producer will pay an extra $0.0325 or 3.25 cents per chick (eggs (promotion) levy)
• A honey producer will pay an extra $0.0046 or less than 0.5cents per kg (honey levy)
• A domestic apple producer will pay an extra $0.001845 or less than 0.19 cents per kg (apple levy).
• A forest grower, for plantation logs – (exotic softwood) will pay an extra $0.0105 or 1.05 cents per cubic metre of the log (forest growers levy)
• A forest grower, for other logs will pay an extra $0.005 or 0.5 cents per cubic metre of the log (forest growers levy)
• A prawn farmer will pay an extra $0.00665 or less than 0.67c per kg of whole farmed prawns (farmed prawns levy

For those producers with commodities not subject to statutory levies, arrangements will be negotiated on a commodity-specific basis.

A very modest contribution, almost nothing. Farmers will be happy to do the necessary additional paperwork and be audited accordingly.

Labor’s ‘fresh food tax’ on farmers is ‘pure insanity’

“This is just pure insanity when you think they are charging Australian farmers a tax to pay for their foreign competitors’ biosecurity risks so that they can bring their products to this country,” Mr Littleproud told Sky News Australia.

If you stand in a 330kV/132kV substation about 3m from 300MVA transformer wearing rubber soled work boots, you can draw a continuous 1-2mm arc to the grounded metal fence. Plenty of people have spend 30+ year careers exposed to this level of EM field for several hours/day with no adverse effects.

How many people work or live underneath 330 or 132kV power lines? (the big “mechano set” towers) If you are close to one, try walking directly underneath it at night with a fluro tube in your hand – instant light saber!

I’d be much more concerned about the TV station transmitters myself – especially now they are digital. It’s odd – people are worried about mobile phone towers, but ignore the TV transmitter tower which pumps out 1,000 times as much power!

In Budget Alliteration news:

Hydrogen Headstart program

The Australian Government will invest $2.0 billion in the new Hydrogen Headstart program, providing revenue support for large-scale renewable hydrogen projects through competitive hydrogen production contracts.

This investment will accelerate development of Australia’s hydrogen industry, catalyse clean energy industries, and help Australia connect to new global hydrogen supply chains, to take advantage of hydrogen’s immense jobs and investment potential.

The Program will help bridge the commercial gap for early projects and put Australia on course for up to a gigawatt of electrolyser capacity by 2030 through 2 to 3 flagship projects.

A further $2 million over 2 years will be provided to help First Nations communities engage with hydrogen project developers.

So, looks like half of that will go to enrichen Twiggy and his 500MW/70,000 tpa project in Brisbane. Just the ticket.

Technical Note: The Australian annual primary energy consumption is around 5,500PJ – most of which is derived from fossil fuels. The energy content in 70,000 tpa of glossy Green hydrogen is around 230PJ.

We’re going to need a bigger budget…

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/may/12/unionists-angry-as-joe-biden-says-he-visited-northern-ireland-to-make-sure-the-brits-didnt-screw-around
An MP from Northern Ireland’s biggest pro-UK party has condemned Joe Biden after the US president made contentious remarks about his recent visit to the territory.

Biden said the purpose of his trip last month was “to make sure … the Brits didn’t screw around” with peace in Northern Ireland, and “didn’t walk away from their commitments”.

The comments, relayed in a White House transcript, came as Biden addressed a Democratic party gathering in New York on Wednesday.

He had visited Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to mark the 25th anniversary of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement, which ended three decades of violence in the UK province.

During his visit to Ireland, Biden also congratulated an Irish rugby player – a distant relative – who he said had “beat the hell out of the Black and Tans”.

Biden meant New Zealand’s All Blacks rugby team. The Black and Tans were a notorious British force that sought to quell Irish independence fighters in the early 1920s.

The importance of cash
The Swiss National Bank (SNB) points out that cash has three unique advantages.

They missed the obvious one…

There’s a wild reason young Australians are still getting cash out (11 May)

“Cash or card?”

This has become a redundant question to ask a young Australian. Generation Z has failed to embrace physical money; instead, they opt to pay for everything by card or online.

Well, almost everything.

It turns out there is one big reason many young Aussies are still diligently using cash – and it’s illegal.

Marty* is in his early 20s and he explained that cash would be obsolete in his life if it weren’t for his recreational drug use.

“I use cash for drugs. Otherwise, I haven’t used cash for five years,” he told news.com.au on the condition of anonymity.

Marty’s life is so cashless he doesn’t even have a wallet. Instead, he pays for things via his debit card that is linked to his phone.

“All my mates use cash for drugs,” he explained.

Eventually Marty will work out that not be tracked for everything else as well is a good idea too.
