Thankfully and amazingly, he didn’t have the colossal effrontery to raise his bat as he left the ground.

My ears were burning, and I was wondering why they were burning, and so reading upthread I came cross something I wrote earlier this year…

“every word Vijaya Gadde says is a lie, including ‘and’ and ‘the’.””

I stand by that statement about Vijaya Gadde. She blatantly lied on Joe Rogan about Meghan Murphy’s banning from Twitter, which she was behind. It was Gadde who turned Twitter into her own personal progressive sewer, banning conservatives left, right and centre, in fact banning anyone from the right of centre whose opinions she disliked

However, under no circumstances was I referring to people of the subcontinent as a whole. I like Indians and Bangladeshis. As for lying, people of all ethnicities/cultures lie, sadly it’s part of the human condition, and it’s not confined to any race. As for Gadde’s lies, they weren’t due to her ethnicity, they were a result of her progressive politics. Progressivism is a lie and progressives lie.

‘Documentary a biased set-up’: bitter Dark Emu feud turns personal

In an explosive reignition of the Dark Emu debate, social anthropologist Peter Sutton has attacked an ABC documentary as a “biased set-up” and Marcia Langton as “misusing her extensive power”.

A new documentary, The Dark Emu Story, made by Blackfella Films for the ABC, examines debate around Bruce Pascoe’s landmark book, which questions the hunter-gather tag assigned to the First Australians and points to Aboriginal sowing and harvesting of plants.

Professor Sutton, who co-authored a leading critique of Pascoe’s book, said he was invited to take part in an “even-handed” documentary, only to have key remarks left out and Professor Langton given a “platform” for “an abusive and disrespectful tirade”.

However, Professor Langton hit back, accusing Professor Sutton of “breathtaking arrogance”, a “completely unwarranted” attack on her, and being unwilling “to debate historical records”.

Professor Sutton, co-author with anthropologist Keryn Walshe of Farmers or Hunter-gatherers? The Dark Emu Debate, accused Blackfella Films of “bad faith” and painting him and his colleague as “racists”. “The film is biased towards one side of the debate, the side of Bruce Pascoe,” Professor Sutton told The Australian. “At several points it turns into propaganda.

“This is the opposite of the much-stressed independence and even-handedness that Blackfella Films promised in our pre-filming discussions. It becomes a puff piece for Pascoe. Worst of all, the film depicts us as racists by association with right-wing shock jocks. Marcia Langton associates us with the colonial anthropology of 100 years ago. The film was a set-up. A case of bad faith.”

Professor Sutton, a social anthropologist and linguist who has spent 50 years studying and recording Aboriginal languages and mapping Indigenous cultural landscapes, said Professor Langton had “turned on the community of scholars who have long both nurtured and learned from her”.

“In the film, she tries to hijack a debate about the precolonial economies and technologies of the old people and turn it into a personal battle in the great race war,” he said.

“She parodies modern anthropologists as if time had stood still in 1914 … But Langton’s political rage does not entitle her to misuse her extensive power and high profile, especially in an effort to prop up Pascoe’s work by denigrating her colleagues. But misuse it she does.”

Professor Langton, an anthropologist and geographer who has produced a large body of work in political and legal anthropology and Indigenous culture and art, accused Professor Sutton of “lacking collegiality”. “It is clear that he feels justified in publishing an entire book with Keryn Walshe which contains a great number of errors and interpretations that I do not agree with, and which many others do not agree with,” she said.

“His problem is that he refuses to accept any criticism of his work – not mine, nor anyone else’s; his arrogance is breathtaking. My objections are with the core of his ideas, which originate in 19th and early 20th century scientism … It is clear that he feels justified in completely ignoring all critique.”

Professor Sutton said the film, directed by Indigenous writer and director Allan Clarke, became a “sympathy drive for Pascoe”, descending into “schmaltz and bathos with violins playing in the background”.

“But it’s not the failure of the film as an attempt at documentary that most concerns me here. It’s how the film suffers terminally from an overdose of viewer-bullying from Langton,” Professor Sutton said.

An ABC spokeswoman said: “The ABC applied the documentary to legal and editorial review before it was broadcast, and is satisfied the filmmakers delivered a program that informed, educated and entertained our audience.”

Blackfella Films and Mr Clarke did not respond by deadline.

I know who I regard as credible, and it ain’t Marcia Langton.

Quite apart from anything else, if you are spouting “defending fweedom and democwacy” and simultaneously advocating bulk summary execution of your opponents, you’ve kind of missed the point.
Bit like the clown who spent months bitching and moaning about Dan’s Lockdowns being enforced by a compliant Police Force (and fair enough).
But, nek minnit, he is cheering on street executions of drug dealers President Duterte in the Philippines because it “fixed the drug problem”.
Did it though?
If you’re prepared to endorse the summary execution of 3,300 people (half of whom were killed by “unknown assailants”), you are probably not above fudging drug crime statistics.
It now emerges that many of the “drug executions” were simply score-settling between rivals.

So.

3,300 summary executions? … meh.

That is how the debate is always framed: The single progressive narrative vs racists.

There can never be two views arguing points of merit.

And Langton saying Sutton has not read historical records? The historical records have underwritten the hunter-gatherer view for a couple of centuries. Pascoe’s spin is novel distortions and far-fetched interpretations of topography to summon up imagined fields of grain, silos, towns, observatories, and science.

I’ve mentioned before that regular people shouldn’t take this gerbil warming anxiety simply as amusing. It’s quite real. When you see Greta Thumbnail acting hysterically about gerbiling, don’t discount this as she and countless others have been brainwashed to believe it and they’re absolutely panicked. This facet of mental illness is very, very real.

Read on. In the WSJ today the report is that people are suffering severe mental illness from this scam.

Climate Change Obsession Is a Real Mental Disorder
Alarmist stories about the weather, not the warm air itself, are behind the left’s anxiety and dread.

By Allysia Finley

July 30, 2023 1:54 pm ET

A heat reading at Furnace Creek Visitor Center in Death Valley, Calif., July 16. Photo: ronda churchill/Agence France-Presse/Getty Images

The media wants you to know it’s hot outside. “ ‘Heat health emergency’: Nearly half the US at risk,” CNN proclaimed last week as temperatures climbed above 90 degrees in much of the country.

If heat waves were as deadly as the press proclaims, Homo sapiens couldn’t have survived thousands of years without air conditioning. Yet here we are. Humans have shown remarkable resilience and adaptation—at least until modern times, when half of society lost its cool over climate change.

“Extreme Temperatures Are Hurting Our Mental Health,” a recent Bloomberg headline warns. Apparently every social problem under the sun is now attributable to climate change. But it’s alarmist stories about bad weather that are fueling mental derangements worthy of the DSM-5—not the warm summer air itself.

The Bloomberg article cites a July meta-analysis in the medical journal Lancet, which found a tenuous link between higher temperatures and suicides and mental illness. But the study deems the collective evidence of “low certainty” owing to inconsistent study findings, methodologies, measured variables and definitions. The authors also note that “climate change might not necessarily increase mental health issues because people might adapt over time, meaning that higher temperatures could become normal and not be experienced as anomalous or extreme.”

Well, yes. Before the media began reporting on putative temperature records—the scientific evidence for which is also weak—heat waves were treated as a normal part of summer. Uncomfortable, but figuratively nothing to sweat about.

Yet according to a World Health Organization report last year, the very “awareness of climate change and extreme weather events and their impacts” may lead to a host of ills, including strained social relationships, anxiety, depression, intimate-partner violence, helplessness, suicidal behavior and alcohol and substance abuse.

A study in 2021 of 16- to 25-year-olds in 10 countries including the U.S. reported that 59% were very or extremely worried about climate change, and 84% were at least moderately worried. Forty-five percent claimed they were so worried that they struggled to function on a daily basis, the definition of an anxiety disorder.

“First and foremost, it is imperative that adults understand that youth climate anxiety (also referred to as eco-anxiety, solastalgia, eco-guilt or ecological grief) is an emotionally and cognitively functional response to real existential threats,” a May 10 editorial in the journal Nature explained. “Although feelings of powerlessness, grief and fear can be profoundly disruptive—particularly for young people unaccustomed to the depth and complexity of such feelings—it is important to acknowledge that this response is a rational one.”

These anxieties are no more rational than the threats from climate change are existential. A more apt term for such fear is climate hypochondria.

The New Yorker magazine earlier this month published a 4,400-word piece titled “What to Do With Climate Emotions” by Jia Tolentino, a woman in the throes of such neurosis. “It may be impossible to seriously consider the reality of climate change for longer than ninety seconds without feeling depressed, angry, guilty, grief-stricken, or simply insane,” Ms. Tolentino writes.

“A couple of years ago, reading a climate report on my phone in the early hours of the morning, I went into a standard-issue emotional spiral thinking about it all,” she recalls. “We had also recently had a baby, whose carbon footprint likely already exceeded that of entire villages in Burundi. I was playing whack-a-mole with my consumer desires.”

Ms. Tolentino goes on to describe how climate therapists can help patients cope. “The goal is not to resolve the intrusive feeling and put it away” but, as one therapist advises her, “to aim for a middle ground of sustainable distress.” Even the climate left’s despair must be “sustainable.”

It isn’t difficult to notice that today’s snowflakes consider hot weather aberrant, similar to how they perceive normal feelings such as anxiety or sadness. But there’s nothing normal about climate anxiety, despite the left’s claims to the contrary.

Progressives may even use climate change to displace their other anxieties—for instance, about having children. A mental-health reporter for Vox recently wrote about climate stress, and how “some people even grapple with the existential question of whether to have children because of the human toll on the planet’s resources.”

Displacement is a maladaptive mechanism by which people redirect negative emotions from one thing to another. Ms. Tolentino relates how one patient she interviewed realized through deep reflection that “he’d sometimes used climate anxiety as a container for his own, more intimate problems.”

Climate hypochondriacs deserve to be treated with compassion, much like anyone who suffers from mental illness. They shouldn’t, however, expect everyone else to enable their neuroses.

Raining in England. Once again.

Farter time. Just before that, though – anecdote o’clock.

I have worked on sites as a brickie’s labourer, a builder’s labourer and the hardest work of them all, a plumber’s labourer – both in country Vicco and the larger city-towns.

On each site, from time to time, a ‘god oracle’ type would appear – usually after the actual work had been done. This was invariably a fat dude with a stringy beard who wouldn’t shut his trap from the moment he left the ute until he got back in it 45 minutes later after doing five minutes of work and regaling everyone within earshot about his magnificence.

He’d been everywhere, and done everything. Knew all the tricks. Knew ‘influential people’. Had the inside running on what was what. A big picture, ideas man.

After telling everyone – regardless of trade – what they’d been doing wrong, and while standing around usually with a durrie hanging out of the gob, he’d have a look inside all the eskies on site for free beer before eventually leaving.

Unknownst to the god oracle type, he was universally regarded as a cockhead by everyone else, and subject to considerable ridicule after he left.

Just goes to show. Times change, but people never do.

I had one here recently.
I employed a brickie for my insurance job.
One day his nemesis – Gazza, the self proclaimed best brickie in the West – turns up and spends half an hour telling us how much he was making, how many thousand bricks he could lay in a week, picking non-existent faults with the way my bloke was attacking the job, yada, yada.
Later that day the renderer dropped by.
My brickie (man of few words says), “Was talking to Gazza earlier.
(Pause)
Well, truth be told, actually I was listening to Gazza.”
They both laughed.

Earlier this year, I read a piece sent to me, that talked about litigation between a motel owner and the health department. The motel owner hired a law firm to get him out of the quagmire. He basically folded like a cheap tent and accepted all the terms and conditions set by the health authorities. By the sounds of it, one would put their lives at risk staying in the infested dump and better off living in the turd infested street in SF. Would that mean the motel was accepting guilt in running a filthy dump? Thoughts?

Lot of evidence to suggest helpful. Clear correlation between magnesium status and longevity. Trick is finding the right supplement because so many give us the runs and are poorly absorbed. Mg citrate is apparently very good. Mg threonate is often regarded as the best. Mg taurate is my favourite because topping up the amino acid taurine is also a good idea.

Finding a trusted brand is a hassle. JC I purchase supplements from iHerb. I don’t use supplements on a regular basis but I have been taking Mg for 20 years.

We don’t need to take it every day but maintaining good Mg status is very important.

I was planning on watching the girls play Canada, but for some reason I thought it was tonight.
As I didn’t watch it I can not comment on the tactics employed.
Were the Aussies that good, or were the Canadians that bad?

Indonesia bans live beef imports from a handful of Australian suppliers.
I am sure the two are unrelated.
I am also sure the US subs are going to be worth every penny and all Australians will benefit, not just a range of former politicians getting employed by US defence contractors or the consultancy ecosystem.

Australia retains the Ashes. The End.

Well, yes. However:

That last Test in particular signalled a team plateaued for some time, and that is about to go into decline.

An aging pair of openers, of whom neither will see a Test two years from now, a mentally fragile number 3 and an ex-skipper at 4 showing signs of going into a Joe Burns-esque slump at the end of his own career.

Two of the stable of four pace bowlers are now cotton-woolled and rotated to stop them snapping in half, and an ‘old man’ injury to the best off-spinner in the world who will consequently never be at his best again.

As icing on the Imminent Failure Cake, there is also a fast bowler as captain without the wherewithal to adequately skipper a team that fires on five or six cylinders, because he hasn’t had to do anything when they charge ahead on all eight – which are becoming increasingly rare occasions.

Travis Head will be the next skipper. Start building a team around him, Green, Marsh, Carey (for the moment) and Murphy, and start building it now.

Whether they retained the Ashes or not – you can’t chase 150 runs with seven wickets in hand, then lose 6/70 while failing to do it and still hold your heads up.

If he spoke a little better and looked less like he just got out of bed, I’m sure his subscriber base would grow. I know that I’m not the only one to think this, it’s a pity but I just can’t stand the sight of him on the promo’s.

I don’t watch on purpose because I’m a jinx, noted on many occasions. Whenever I watch a game or a match the team or player I support loses. When I change channels and check later they have won or are winning. So obviously I didn’t watch last night.

KD, I appreciate your crickit expertise and agree with the team decline. They’ve held on to duds for far too long, like an ageing dowager pretending that a brighter shade of lipstick will hide the wrinkles.

My objection was with the “every child deserves a prize” mentality.

And another thing…at least the Americans had the decency to surrender the Auld Mug to the PYC all those years ago.

Vicki, He savages Defence the government for its decision not to revamp our defence capability in any meaningful way.

Our defence force is just there to provide a framework should we need to scale up for actual warfare. It has too many holes to be effective with the number of troops we have, regardless of the weapons system they are supplied with.

We have the worst recruitment and retention probems in the lifetime of our armed forces. So much so, our men and women are allowed, nay, encouraged to flit from one role to another .. just as long as they stay in. That leaves the services with a lack of depth, no one becomes truly expert before they move off to do something more interesting till that bores them. You become a “man manager” in the Army now at rank of Corporal, or in the navy, Petty Officer, and are no longer “hands on” whatever task you are in. Our actual practitioners of the skills are low rank and only doing it for a couple of years, till they become managers or move to another area to start over. (that’s part of the retention program by the way)

Note, nearly all the training is done by contractors these days, by crusty highly skilled old people who gained experience the old way of spending their service life in one niche area.

Airforce? Our Airforce just wants to be the US Airforce when it grows up. Do they do anything here apart from the absolute bare minimum? They garner the majority of defence funding because they put their smart people in Canberra to do exactly that. Army is always the loser because they put their best out there leading people, their dropouts get to go to office jobs.

The most sought after role in the RAAF is not on this continent, it is as an exchange person to the USA.

If it comes to war, were not going to project naval power, way too small and it would be all over in minutes.

We will have to defend, with a poor Army and top of the range air power, that should last an hour or so given the state of anti air defence the Chinese and Russians have built while we squandered our investment in high tech toys. The project disasters just keep coming, with zero repurcussions for the public service procurement people in Canberra.

Don’t get me started!

He is facing cancellation amirite? Daily Telegraph:

ABC journalist Stephen Dziedzic has been caught sharing his thoughts on colleagues and describing Sky News’ Sharri Markson as “a pit bull” and “unhinged”.

Offering his unplugged views on colleagues, the ABC reporter also discusses with colleagues the ABC’s new “hardworking” Q&A host Patricia Karvelas in an embarrassing hot mic incident beamed into newsrooms across Australia.

The incident occurred over the weekend as a group of journalists gathered for a press conference with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

But what the group of journalists didn’t realise was that the microphones caught their unplugged views on ABC management and journalistic colleagues and beamed the commentary on colleagues and political leaders into multiple newsrooms.

In the hot mic tape that is now being discussed throughout the media industry, Dziedzic, who is the ABC’s foreign affairs correspondent, The Australian’s foreign affairs and defence correspondent Ben Packham and The Sydney Morning Herald’s foreign affairs reporter Matthew Knott discuss colleagues and political figures.

Packham observes that Sky News’ Walkley-award winning Markson has written another front-page exclusive in The Weekend Australian on the origins of Covid and the lab leak theory.

“Amazingly, she is looking more and more like she’s … right,” Packham observes.

But Dziedzic then weighs in with a string of slurs about the Sky News host.

“She’s like a pit bull and she’s so unhinged but yet she might still be right,” Dziedzic chuckles.

At that point Knott chimes in that the origin of Covid is “definitely unresolved” but it was suspicious

“You can be unhinged and still be right,” Dziedzic laughs.

“How does she know it’s not a bat?” Knott laughs in response.

Dziedzic then suggests Markson “wouldn’t really know”.

“She doesn’t know, no one does,” Dziedzic says.

“But the location is extremely suspicious. You don’t want to let the Chinese off the hook,” Knott replies.

Dziedzic then concedes that he “remembers being super dismissive of that”.

“That it was the most unhinged thing ever,” Dziedzic says. “I was overly influenced by the fact it was truly nasty, crazy people who were so deep down the rabbit hole. I probably didn’t look at it dispassionately enough.”

There’s more to come, seems like these blokes had a good chinwag.
Look for the non-apology apology where ‘he was taken out of context’ etc.

shatterzz, that Tan Grant story was a hoot.

First, the author admits to having Tan envy because of his high profile.

Then, she complains that he was asking for Aborigines to get ‘the Australian dream’ (which, BTW, Tan has in spades), presumably because she wants them all living in gunyahs in the bush.

Finally, she admits to having some sympathy for him because he is now a victim of racism after he stomped off from Q&A.

FFS, who gets to announce that they will no longer perform their very well paid job and gets to sulk indefinitely on full pay? If that’s racism, millions of Australian workers would love to experience it.

The demise of Defence was so visible. It commenced when the PS bribed senior officers with obscene salaries. Careerist conformity became the only pathway to the big bucks.
To prosper it was not sufficient to tolerate the PS destroying defence culture, they had to be active and agressive agents for the woke destruction.
Should we survive the coming holocaust, historians will devote volumes to attempting to understand how the Defence People Group could possibly have occurred.
The answer is obvious. Greed and an outdated career management system based upon patronage. The rot starts early. ADFA is a corporate poison that needs to be removed.
