A soldier that posts here occasionally – like a real one. A former SAS dude who saw action, was totally unimpressed by the Adonis’s comment and laughed him off the site. Never seen again. Good riddens to bad fungus.

Which reminds me, Mater was really good value.

Phhht.
Come on, man!
What size desk did Mater have in Canberra?
Did he have a corner suite in Russell Offices?

Oh, and the medico regards proper pain relief as Panadol Osteo, and sleeping tablets.

I had multiple run ins with SubContinental doctors in a Private Hospital setting (Note: Cultural reference – not racial) who refused near terminal cancer patients opiates for pain because “I’m saving it for when they really need it.”
Callous bastards – I told one to his face that I hoped he found himself in the position of one of my patients who was obviously in pain, and that I’d suggest he get pain relief withheld until he ‘really needed it’.

Spot of spacechooking, for Cats with an interest in military history. Good account of the siege of Dien Dien Phu, by Kevin Boylan and Luc Oliver. “Valley Of the Shadow.”

I thought Bernard B Fall had written the last word on that shooting match, but Boylan and Oliver have discovered new material in the French archives, interviewed some more veterans, and have a shedload of sources from the North Vietnamese archives.

Good reading, check it out.

Lol, it was Mater who exposed the commenter known as “JC” over his continued bullshit harangues that Zulu had pretended to serve in Vietnam.

Not my story … but I like it … so here.

I know I shouldn’t have done this, but I’m almost 70 years old and I’m just tired of taking crap from people.

I was in the McDonald’s drive-through yesterday morning getting my monthly sausage biscuit fix and it was busy as hell- there were probably 15 cars in front of me when I got on the line.
When I finally got up to the order window, the young bitch in the car behind me must have been in a hurry, because she was leaning on her horn, flipping me a bird and started mouthing something because I was taking too long to place my order.

When I got finished with my order, I gave the order-taker $20.00, said I wanted to pay for my daughter’s breakfast in the car behind me, and told her to keep the change.
I paid for her order along with my own.

The cashier must have told her what I’d done because as we moved up she leaned out her window and waved to me and mouthed “Thank you.”, obviously embarrassed that I had repaid her rudeness with kindness.

When I got to the second window I showed the gal both receipts and took her food too.
Now she has to go back to the end of the line and start all over again.

Moral of this story?
Don’t blow your horn at old people, biatch.

We’ve been around a long time – we know more ways to screw with you than you’ll ever dream of.

Despite the excellent reporting by Janet A in the Oz of the excoriation of Dumbgold, in the Hun and Tele the lard lush Maiden reports on a different slant.

She reports how the Inquiry determined that the decision to prosecute by the AFP and the DPP was correct. Blithely ignoring the fact that plod wasn’t too keen to proceed.

I suspect that Janet only passed on some of the leaked report that she had and the lush didn’t. The lard report seemed to be an arse covering exercise to excuse her report before a charge had been laid and, in fact, before the knickerless one had made a complaint to plod.

He’s always been a decent person who lives by what he’s preached. It’s why Trump chose him. His voting in the senate couldn’t have been more slanted to rightwing causes.

After certifying Biden’s win Pence bumped elbows with Nancy Pelosi, fist bumps were out due to covid. That is not the action of a decent person, it is gloating by an enemy. A decent person could have certified the election and then just walked off but he did not do that.
Trump chose him as his VP because he was forced to do it by the Republican establishment.

There’s that photo with President Trump off to side/back, and the look of utter contempt as he realises precisely what happened is stuck in my memory.

From the Oz:-

In findings that are certain to end Mr Drumgold’s career as ACT Director of Public Prosecutions and may lead to criminal prosecution against him for perverting the course of justice, inquiry head Walter Sofronoff KC ruled that every one of the allegations made by Mr Drumgold that sparked the inquiry was baseless.

Worth remembering.
Dumgold kicked this whole thing off by claiming political interference by the Libs.
He is either really, really stupid or had some grossly misplaced overconfidence that the enquiry would be a fix as well.

And then Sofronoff really sticks the boots in.

In one of many particularly pointed findings, he said he preferred the evidence of TV presenter Lisa Wilkinson and prosecutor Skye Jerome over Mr Drumgold.

Meawnhile in Spain…Ronda, and an AirBnB to avoid

Ronda

This spectacular small town in southern Spain has to be seen to be believed. The original walled town was built around a deep gorge, which runs through the middle of it now, and has steep cliffs on most sides. As such it was an easily defensible position. Also, a wonderful Roman bridge. Amazing views of the countryside from its hill-top position.

We saw on the walk to the restaurant – down about 150 stairs and up again on the return – the local Arab baths, still intact but not functional, and some of the gorge. The ravine features in the Hemingway book For Whom the Bell Tolls. There is also an Orsen Welles connection – he holidayed there, so there are statues of both blokes around.

We ate at Casa Maria, which has attracted extremely positive reviews on outlets such as Trip Advisor. The menu is non-existent – you are served what the owner deems interesting for that day – five courses for E45 each. We were given bruschetta, a salmon salad, wrapped hot feta cheese in filo pastry; local fish – cut up on the table by the waiter; roast baby kid goat, and a hazelnut cake. All of this was in the local square by the fountain – the wait staff crossed the road with their trays to get to us. Delicious.

Sadly our AirBNB apartment was one of the few that let us down. It seemed to be the project of a local family son, who spoke a few words of English – we met him for 10 seconds in his towel, pulled out of the shower by mum to translate – but who had translated all sorts of florid statements into English on his profile: “I live and love tranquillity for every day” and that sort of thing. We never met the host, although the whole family was downstairs!

The unit, while clean, had all sorts of things missing (only one stockpot, no saucepan) or wrong with it. One of the worst was the two-ring gas stove. To light the igniter, you took an electrical cable out from under the sink to connect to the nearest plug, which necessitated running it around 15 cms from the burner. Then the thing wouldn’t light anyway. The gas bottle was on, so we thought. We emailed him for advice, and received: “Press the lever down”, so we gave up. Pity because it had a fabulous view, and a proper fridge.

But don’t miss Ronda!

John H, unrelated to your post (apart from involving cancer).
A friend of mine is now in palliative care as her 8-9 year cancer battle is coming to an end.
There are two people who are in the place, also on the way out but who did not pursue any treatment once their cancers were diagnosed.
How about that, finding out you had cancer but instead of attempting treatment, you effectively go home to die.
Until you end up in palliative care at the end.

In the second case, this may be a rational choice. Following successful initial treatment and then having a subsequent relapse, second line chemo has only a less than 1% chance of success. You go through hell for little likely benefit. Note: this is not medical advise, always consult your specialist.

I cannot understand the first case of refusing treatment after diagnosis as initial treatment often gives you an additional 5 to 10 years. Unless the prognosis was really bad, like 3 months to live or such. Depends on the type of cancer.

A recruitment firm has been appointed to find a new chief executive for the NT Aboriginal Investment Corporation – a key economic appointment in the Northern Territory.

And:

The NTAIC was formed to oversee the investment of mining royalties sourced from Aboriginal land in the Northern Territory and paid into the Aboriginal Benefits Account.

The body has $680m to spend over three years on projects targeting Indigenous jobs, businesses and investment in the Territory.

And:

Its significance is reflected in the chief executive’s salary, understood to be a toe-curling $422,898 – the same as land council CEOs.

Dot did Bruce the goose write the lack of evidence for the 200 population. It sure would have explained the high level of imbeciles in the population.

Andrew Bolt:

Is Anthony Albanese a liar or a fool? Why this pretence that he doesn’t have a plan for a disastrous treaty between our “races”?

On Wednesday morning, Albanese put in probably his worst media performance as Prime Minister when he tried to sell his Voice – a kind of Aboriginal-only advisory parliament, in our constitution.

One reason his racist Voice is dying in the polls is that voters now realise it’s part of a package to give people identifying as Aboriginal not just extra political rights but a treaty, with potentially “reparations”.

So now it’s a clown act: Treaty? What treaty?

Asked by the ABC’s Patricia Karvelas if he’d start negotiating a treaty if Australians voted for his Voice, an agitated Albanese denied everything: “No, Patricia, because that that’s occurring with the states right now.”

Really? Karvelas tried again: “Are you still committed to Commonwealths negotiating treaties?”

Albanese got even more agitated: “Where does it say that? It doesn’t even say that in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. It doesn’t say that, it doesn’t speak about the Commonwealth negotiating treaties. It doesn’t say that, Patricia. So don’t get sucked in.”

From start to finish, lies, deceit … or astonishing ignorance.

In fact, the Uluru statement, drawn up by Aboriginal activists and adopted “in full” by Albanese, does indeed mention a treaty, as well as a Voice.

True, it actually calls the treaty an “agreement” with “governments”, and “the culmination of our agenda: the coming together after a struggle”. You know, like a treaty.

Indeed, Albanese has called this a call for a treaty and was all for his government negotiating one, as the Uluru signatories clearly intended.

Last year, for instance, he praised “Uluru’s three generous requests: voice, truth, treaty”, and told Parliament: “Labor is committed to all three — the voice to parliament enshrined in our Constitution, truth … and treaty emerging from the Makarrata commission …”

Sure enough, the government’s Budget this year included $5.8 million to set up this Makarrata commission to “oversee processes for agreement-making and truth-telling”.

Don’t be fooled by “agreement-making”. Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney was more frank a year ago, promising a “Makarrata commission that would have two jobs — treaty and agreement-making”.

Yes, treaty.

So who is Albanese trying to fool? And what’s so dangerous about his plans for a treaty that he refuses now to even mention the word?

If Albanese is so frightened of “treaty”, shouldn’t you be, too?

Coca-Cola Owned Cafe Chain faces Boycott over Trans Cartoon with Cut Off Breasts (2 Aug)

The top coffeehouse chain in the UK has sparked outrage over an advert that has been accused of supporting the “mutilation of healthy young girls” after an advertisement depicting a blue-haired surfer with what strongly appears to be a cartoon representation of a double mastectomy drinking coffee appeared on a company van.

It’s quite revolting. What are these people thinking? The nihilism is fascinating as time after time they do this and then inevitable happens. We seem to be in an age of reverse advertising where companies are trying to repel customers rather than attract them.

Drumgold and his clique (still not sure if he was really just a useful idiot) were heavily invested in #metoo and actively seeking to change fundamental judicial principles around the presumption of innocence etc. Hubris caught up with him in the end.

It is a shame Yates escaped unruffled, but ultimately she was playing the part her no doubt carefully constructed role allowed.

Wilkinson’s evidence may have been preferred over Drumgold’s, but she and Channel 10 should have known better. If she never blights our screens again it will be #metoo soon.

I know we have a despicable Labor government, but quite frankly the unlamented Morrison government was just as despicable, if not more so. The Liberal Party led by Scumbag of the Shire didn’t give a shit about freedom and free speech, in fact they completely trashed it. I suppose it’s good the Liberals have now decided to step up and oppose legislation about “misinformation and disinformation” but just remember, this legislation was actually drafted by the useless effing Liberals when in government, under that grubby undertaker Paul Fletcher (who always reminds me of Uriah Heep from David Copperfield). It remains a matter of sadness to me that Uriah Fletcher didn’t lose his seat last year to a Teal. Anyway, I digress, please excuse my fury and cynicism about how the Liberal party is now opposing this legislation, because when in government they were more than happy to trash, terminate and crush people’s free speech..

Just remember this, and I know you all know this but I can’t stress it enough…

Craig Kelly has been completely vindicated.

Remember how Scumbag and his fellow expert Liberal fellators sided with Labor and the Greens to smear and silence Kelly, humiliating him and pushing him out of the party? In fact, I can honestly say that the only thing the Liberal Party was good at in the whole nine years of government was dumping on its own, from Bettina to Craig to George to Andrew to Christian to Alan. In fact, the Liberal Party should produce a “sex” book of its own, called “Tips on how to fellate your ideological enemies and dump on your own”, with the sub-title…”the Liberal Party is an expert at it”.

The Liberal Party should apologise to Craig Kelly, and invite him to return to the party, in the meantime they do nothing about the Miserable Mutant Maggot from Point Piper, in fact they even gave him a platform to broadcast his miserable mutterings a few weeks ago on a Menzies podcast.

Morning news from the Daily Telegraph…

Covid protests on social media censored by Australian government
Secret documents reveal Australian government censors monitored social media posts protesting about Covid lockdowns and vaccine mandates – and pressured Facebook and Twitter to shut them down.

New freedom of information documents reveal the Federal Government was secretly pressuring Facebook to censor information about lawful public protests against Covid lockdowns and vaccine mandates.

The FOI documents show a social media team within a “National Incident Room” in the Health Department also pressured Twitter to try to shut down posts by then sitting Liberal MP Craig Kelly railing against censorship.

Mr Kelly said the revelations highlighted the dangers of the Albanese Government’s new “misinformation” social media laws – and that attempts to censor his tweets ridiculing former Premier Gladys Berejiklian over lockdowns was “banana republic stuff”.

The secret team of censors, located in the Sirius Building in Canberra, also wanted to remove an entire group devoted the medical stories of people injured by vaccines saying they had 743 members and they wanted to “flag it before it got too many more” as their stories were “unsubstantiated”— but Facebook refused.

The censors were on friendly terms with Facebook staff, exchanging daily emails and chit chat about going on paternity leave and signing off with happy emojis.

In April 2021, at the height of the pandemic, the government censors asked Facebook to shut down an Australian group called United Collective, attaching screenshots of the group promoting marches against lockdowns and mandate policies.

“Happy Monday, I hope you both had a good weekend,” the public servant, whose name was redacted, wrote to the Facebook team.

Health Department censors asked Facebook to censor a social media page that promoted protests against vaccine mandates. One of the FOI documents showing Health Department officials asking Facebook to shut down a protest page in April 12, 2021.

“We believe this group infringes on Facebook’s policy as it has promoted events and calls to action advocating against the Covid-19 vaccine and also spread misinformation to push this message.

“I’ve also included a snip of the recent media on the page that you can see is quite openly against Covid-19 requirements and has numerous petitions being promoted in the comments on the posts.”

The snippets include posters promoting legal demonstrations in February that year in capital cities under the banner “Millions March against mandatory Covid vaccinations”, including in Sydney’s Hyde Park, where chef Pete Evans spoke.

Facebook replied saying they reviewed the group and deleted nine pieces of content “for violation of our policies”.

The government official then replied asking why they didn’t just remove the group as a whole.

“There is demonstrated evidence the group is purely designed to go against Covid information by the posts it allows,” they argued.

In response, the Facebook employee said: “The group has posted a large volume of content which does not violate our policies.”

The censors also targeted Mr Kelly, an outspoken former Liberal MP who campaigned against lockdowns and vaccine mandates.

“We’ve got the Department of Health wanting to censor a post by me complaining about censorship, it’s beyond ridiculous,” he said.

“The documents also show the government trying to shut down people spreading information about a lawful protest against government policy – that’s banana republic stuff.”

Twitter refused a request to censor some of his tweets, stating on 27 April 2021 that: “we didn’t find a violation of our rules in the content you reported”.

The tweet that Australian Government censors asked Twitter to remove, which was made by then MP Craig Kelly on August 3, 2021, about the lockdowns.

In another, under the heading “We’ve got your report about Craig KellyMP” on August 2021 Twitter said they’d received the complaint about Mr Kelly tweeting:

“Looking desperate and running out of ideas … harming people’s mental health with endless lockdowns, raw abuse of police power … Ignoring Israeli (followed by a symbol of a needle) Shame Gladys Shame Time to resign.”

It included a newspaper cartoon ridiculing ex-premier Ms Berejiklian.

“They were attempting to censor political discussion,” Mr Kelly said.

“The Morrison Government was trying to shut me down and shut down my political speech on Twitter.

“Pressuring of Twitter by a secret unit inside (former Health Minister) Greg Hunt’s Ministry for Health to censor an elected member of parliament was misfeasance in public office.”

‘Orwellian’ misinformation bill exempts government but not Opposition MPs

A Health Department spokesman did not respond to queries about what the budget of the unit was, or Mr Kelly’s complaints about being censored, saying it wanted Australians to have “access to credible evidence based health information”.

“Throughout the pandemic the Department monitored and responded to COVID-19 and vaccine related misinformation on social media.

“Where the department identified posts or accounts which may not be consistent with the policies of each social media company, the Department raised these with the companies to consider.”

I’m looking forward to catching up with Kelly at CPAC. In the meantime, ponder the above. What a disgrace.
