Their drunkenness obviates consent. (It also allows them to say that their recollections are imprecise or even wrong.)

Fact check : TRUE …
10 years as an alcoholic and I can still , vividly, remember most of it, good & bad (lotz more bad than good.. duuuh!) but in the 43 years since the last alcoholic intake (August 1980) whenever asked , by anyone, I tend to fall back on the tried & tested ……… “Can’t remember, no idea .. I wuz drunk, almost, all of the time” ……

I know quite a few people who have zero recollection of their behaviour when paralytically drunk.
It happens.
Children can lie cheat steal be promiscuous etc.
But when the other party is a very mature adult in a position of loco parentis, that power bears 100 percent of the responsibility.

Regarding the Seven Spotlight show on Lehrmann on Sunday night.
For those who had read the Sofronoff Report, or the potted version in the Oz, there wasn’t much new stuff.
There was one little snippet which I thought interesting though.
A phone call where Samantha Maiden tells Britnah that Lehrmann is going to deny that any sexual contact took place.
Britnah declares that this is “Great news!” but the tone said something completely different.
Married men who have heard those dreaded phrases, “No, nothing’s the matter”, and “Everything’s fine” will know exactly what I mean.
I think the fix was even deeper than what we imagine. ACT Shire Council legal aid were trying to steer Lehrmann away from Whybrow to counsel with a more conciliatory style.
Once the tame defence counsel is appointed, Dumgold then makes overtures (without firm commitment) to reduce charges to, say, indecent assault if he makes certain admissions of inappropriate touching. Lehrmann is convinced to wave the white flag in the hope that he might get a suspended sentence. Next minute, his admissions appear on The Project and there is no deal.

After all ten is the age of legal responsibility.
The reason we have age of consent laws, and higher ones where teachers are involved, is because of the power imbalance between adults and children.
Of course child abusers hate age of consent laws.

Minors are not always blameless, at least legally.

But in matters of sexual contact between a 58 year perv and a 15 year old girl, the girl is blameless before the law.
Which is why Cassie correctly put Louis Litt in his place last night for declaring that a teenager “consenting” to sex was some sort of mitigation.
Minors. Cannot. Legally. Consent. To. Sex.
The end.

Siyamak sits down with Victor Gomez, the executor director of “Citizens Against the Lawsuit Abuse” https://cala.com/ He’s going to tell us how some trial attorneys in California have found a way to make a lot of money of small businesses for their mistakes using the law.

“I see California businesses fleeing the state: 750,000 jobs are lost every year. A lot of Vietnamese immigrants, a lot of Latino immigrants come here with an entrepreneurial spirit. They put all of their money to open up that taco shop, to open up that boqueria … That’s their only income.”

M0nty:”As I said, a bunch of hearsay and table pounding.

If there was a case against Joe there, indictments would have flowed long ago.”

Just to be clear:

The “Steele Dossier”, used as the basis for the Mueller investigation of the Trump administration and the 2016 election, was known by the Obama administration to be paid “oppo” research, paid for by Hillbillary & co – the CIA’s John Brennan told at least Obama and Biden this was so in the dying days of Obama’s presidency when that investigation was in its infancy. Yet it was sufficient “evidence” for the FBI to spend 2 years and north of $50M investigating, ultimately resulting in no charges against DJT, and the FBI illegally withheld exculpatory information from the FISA court doing it.

In contrast, the network of LLC’s created by the Biden family, the bank records of the transactions of those LLC’s, and the banks filing “Suspicious Activity Reports” regarding those transactions, are all either public records (LLCs), third party “neutral” records (bank records) or legislatively required notification (SARs) again from “neutral” third parties. And the third parties here only supplied the info as required by law and subpoena, not as part of an overarching “bad man” document in an attempt to discredit a political opponent.

Devin Archer told Tucker Carlson in his twitter posted interview that his partnership with Hunter Biden was selling “navigation” of the “swamp” – that is, access to people who could speed up processes or get things done that otherwise would be denied. That is all fine and legal even if ethically questionable, but if you are doing it on behalf of foreigners, you need to register as a “foreign agent”. As far as I know, Hunter Biden was not so registered. And if Hunter was sharing a bank account with his father, paying some of his fathers expenses and getting his father on the phone during his “sell”, then that raises the question of how much Joe knew, when he knew it, and if, as seems to be the case with the Ukraine investigator, he acted to further his sons interests.

If what Hunter was selling was legit, why the network of LLC’s transferring cash around, when that looks suspiciously like obfuscation as with any money laundering scheme?

Why did Joe Biden lie on TV during the Presidential debate with Trump when he said neither he nor Hunter ever made any money from China?

Why did Joe’s stated position change from “I never knew anything about my sons business activity” to “I was never in business with him [Hunter]”?

Why is the MSM strangely incurious about the above contradicted-by-facts and at-odds-position statements by the President?

There is clearly enough evidence (not proof, evidence) that something at least “odd”, if not technically illegal, is going on – things that if true, indicate that Hunter Biden at least, and possibly Joe as well, were “foreign agents” (not the 007 type, but as per the US FARA laws). This warrants investigation, which – given the nature of the office held – should be public.

If DoJ/FBI is not investigating (and I have seen no indication that they are), then given how DJT was treated, this raises questions of conflict of interest in the executive branch that clearly were not present in the DJT admin – indeed, one might even suspect that there was bias against DJT, and for JRB, in that even suspiciously sourced hints about DJT were aggressively investigated, while testimony under oath to congress and legally required “suspicious activity” reporting was ignored when JRB was the subject. Not a good look, regardless of what really went on and why.

Even more concerning is the timing of the various actions against DJT – DoJ announced DJT indictments the day after revelations of what appears to be malfeasance by the Biden family is exposed by Congress. Not just once, but several times (there are timelines on Twitter – sorry, no references)

Sorry M0nty, but I think that, much like Watergate, the “killer” is not the actual crime, but the coverup of the crime. And I think the “crime” in this case is also potentially significantly more serious and widespread than the Watergate one – Watergate simply involved local politics and “dirt”, while this appears to indicate bribery and corruption on an international level at a scale never exposed before.

“I studied Hebrew for two years as an avocational pursuit.”

Roger, did you study classical Hebrew or modern day Hebrew? They are different.

As for studying Hebrew for two years, fabbo, but I know scholars and rabbis who’ve studied Classical Hebrew for decades, and I suspect that they are way more knowledgeable and learned about Hebrew than you (or I for that matter). My rabbi isn’t just a Hebrew scholar, he’s also a scholar of Kabbalah and the Hasidic Tanya. Finally, when reading what I call the Torah and you call the OT, Jewish and Christian interpretations can be very, very different.

Someone mentioned Watergate above and the Biden Crime family are far more corrupt. However, it reminded me of how we’re always told how “bad” Nixon was. As per usual, its ahistorical. We need an injection of Nixon into the Voice:

Nixon became the first President to give Native Americans the right to tribal self-determination by ending the policy of forced assimilation and returning their sacred lands.

Self determination can work, so as long as it isn’t enshrined in a constitution for what is not a homogenous group. I’m not totally for it but as Abbott said “if you want to make a lifestyle choice and live 400kms south of Derby, that’s up to you, just don’t expect the same level of government services as elsewhere” (not quite word for word but you get my drift).

Also, in the Midrash it is said that Adam had a wife before Eve, her name was Lilith. Lilith defied Hashem and Adam and, rather than being subservient to Adam, Lilith ran off to the Red Sea to become a demon.

It’s a story that rabid Jewish feminists just love.

I was once at a drasha (lesson) and a friend of mine asked a rabbi about Lilith, and she suggested that Lilith would be a better role model for women than Eve. The rabbi exploded in anger.

Put your evidence up in court and see if it stands up. That’s what Trump has to face now in four separate cases with a heap more direct evidence. Let’s see Biden’s lawyers tear your tissue paper of a case apart.

The House Committee has already investigated Hunter, and all it could come up with was a bunch more questions, and no answers. This is tiresome timewasting, everyone stopped listening to incompetent fools like Gym Jordan decades ago. Whitewater, Seth Rich, Benghazi, Hillary’s secret risotto recipes and now noods of Hunter’s hog… your boys have never laid a finger on anyone with these endless investigations.

On today of all days, you can shut up and listen to the feeds out of Georgia as real lawyers with actual evidence lay down a solid case. Maybe you’ll learn something.

Here is the WIRES page on plovers laying eggs on garage roofs, which they’ve decided recently they like doing. Makes sense, since foxes and cats are less likely to prey upon them there.

Plovers

Plovers usually lay their eggs after local rains. They lay up to four eggs on the ground in a small depression in open areas so they can see their predators. However, these birds have now come to accept flat roofs as a suitable nesting site, as they are generally safe from humans and predation.

What you can do

– It is important to remember that plover swooping only occurs for a short period of time. Once the chicks have fledged (i.e. are able to fly), the level of protection will significantly decrease.
– If you have plovers swooping in your area, try to avoid the nesting area and do not antagonise the birds.
– If you cannot avoid the area, try not to walk directly towards the birds or make eye contact with them.
– Wearing a large hat or bike helmet when in their vicinity can also help.
– If the nest site is simply in a vulnerable position, a protective fence/table/chair can be placed over the nest site so that the birds can come and go safely until the chicks are hatched.
– If the problem cannot be avoided or solved, or if you are unsure, call WIRES for advice 1300 094 737.

Not sure if any of that is particularly helpful though.

I regard the Demonrats’ anti-Trump legal warfare as serving two aims.

1. Try to entangle Trump in an enormous number of indictments in order to remove him from the race. They would like to have him imprisoned because it would help with the second, equally significant point.

2/a. To make a valiant effort to stop future GOP candidates from ever objecting to or criticizing the electoral process.
2/b Therefore, they aim to cheat and will do so on a greater scale if they are successful.

“It is a good idea to create a USB recovery drive at regular intervals.”

“Backup early and often” is the mantra – but no-one does until they have been stung at least once.

For a bit more safety, install Oracle VMWare and only use the virtual machine to browse – you can even set it to NOT save changes, so that every (virtual) power-on starts with the same hard disk image (no permanent virus/worm, even if you get one in any session). I used this many years ago in my business – one VM for “mission critical” stuff (accounts, banking etc) , another for general web access. The latter I kept of a copy of the virtual HDD in “known good” state, and every now and then copied back when the “current” one got “broken” (or even just started to bog down with crap). The base OS was Linux, the VMs were Windows, but you can run the base OS as Windows, no problem.
There is a small performance “hit”, but I managed just fine on early 1990’s hardware for everything except video streaming, but anything remotely “new” should be fine, and likely hardly noticeable. The only real issue is getting the install media for your VM – if you can live with XP, no issues its legally free now, Win 7 you likely have anyway (don’t update!), but Win10 and up is likely harder to get install media (an ISO image is fine, don’t need physical media).

Weird how the random algorithm just happened to assign this judge to Trump’s case. It’s almost like Democrats know how to make computers produce the results they want.

It is undeniably piquant that Trump was gifted his most obsequious lickspittle Aileen Cannon to run interference for him in the Mar-A-Lago toilet documents case, but he copped the most fearsome patriot in Chutkan to judge him on the January 6 insurrection case.

He rolled the dice with four separate crimes, it was always on the odds that he’d roll a 1 for at least one of them.

JC, much as I hate to tell you, you just don’t get it. Worse, m0nty does! For shame.

The aim, in so far as the Dems have one, is to take a well-deserved victory lap.

They can charge you with whatever (made up risible nonsense or otherwise) they damn well please. Then point you at the “appropriate” judge.

They can do whatever they want without any concern re legalities… unless there is some cast-iron “evidence” to the contrary. They get to define “evidence” (see m0nst above). So there is never any evidence. All hearsay. And they define “hearsay”.

They can hold hearings and throw away the source documents.

If they get caught on one dodge, say a wacko plea deal, they can just substitute the same prosecutor under a different title and defer the whole problem away.

If you can’t see the victory lap for what it is at this point…

In some ways, I hope they’re right. Because the consequences of them not being right are frankly frightening.

Which is why they simply HAVE to be right.

Which, I think, is where we came in.

“See now Kneel, you fail at the first factual hurdle, because that’s just not true. You follow this up with a big list of lies fed to you from the fever swamp.”

Umm, yes it is true – the FBI has stated that the Steele Dossier was pivotal in their investigation. Look it up yourself.

As I noted, these “lies fed to you from the fever swamp” are well documented public information, subpoenaed from banks and others, supplied by banks as part of their legal obligations or on oath testimony to congress (perjury laws apply).

As I also said, this is evidence that warrants investigation, not proof. It’s murky and ambiguous – and if JRB really did do those things, then it’s that way on purpose, to make it hard to disentangle, so that by the time it all washes out, he is not only out of office, but the statute to limitations has expired (a la Hunters earlier tax issues).

If you would accept (for the sake of the argument) that the aforesaid evidence was in fact real, would you agree it is worth investigating? Not of charges at present (I would argue it is…), but certainly investigation.

I assure you this evidence is real, although I also agree that some of the more extreme claims about what it means are likely hyperbole.

I doubt very much that the swamp will charge one of its own (JRB) as opposed to an outsider (DJT) who has, and continues to campaign on “draining the swamp” and “firing” a lot of them.

“…your boys have never laid a finger on anyone with these endless investigations.”

I would again remind you that DJT suffered over two years of investigation on much flimsier evidence and was also never charged. If DJT deserved to be “done” and put up with such investigation, then surely the “pure as driven snow” JRB can endure an investigation and then bask in the glow of his own innocence.

The latest Jan 6 related charges against DJT are so ridiculously flimsy that even left leaning legal people are dubious they will go anywhere – firstly, does anyone who sees DJT as a megalomaniac wanna-be dictator really think he “believes” he lost in 2020? Secondly, there is already precedent that the first amendment applies to politicians even when they are knowingly lying. Thirdly, twitter has already released the tweets he made on Jan 6 that were at the time hidden from public view, where he urged people to “go home” and (once again) to avoid any sort of violence. Fourthly, listing legal and political advisors as “co-conspirators” is a long stretch – the right to legal advise is a bedrock right, and should that now be considered “conspiracy”, the entire legal system is lost, and you may as well be in Stalin’s USSR or Mao’s China. I can’t imagine that surviving at the SC, if it even gets that far.

The prosecutor has already committed a grave error that is arguably prosecutorial misconduct (failing to deliver all discovery information and telling the court it had).

We haven’t seen the actual GA indictments as yet, but I suspect that these too are a whole lot of stuff taken out of context, which can be done for a grand jury hearing, but not at trial.

In both the federal and GA cases, discovery might run into some very interesting details that the left doesn’t want made public – at least there will be the amusement of that.

I think that “the process IS the punishment” is what is going on here – they want DJT distracted, unable to campaign, and financially exhausted. On the latter I think they have made a grave error – Trump, I believe, is quite prepared to spend $100M or more on legals and will never accept a plea deal that a lesser monied individual might. And I also think that the harder they try to “get Trump”, while at the same time “save Biden”, the more they push even left-leaning moderates away from themselves and towards Trump – certainly the polling is indicating this.

The Dersh weighs in

Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz on Trump’s Georgia indictments:

“First of all, nobody should take seriously that there was grand jury indictment. The fact that it was agrand jury indictment, it means nothing. It’s the prosecutor who indicted. The best evidence of that is that it was on his website before the grand jury even voted. Now, the whole strategy of all these four casesis to get a conviction before the election, even if they’re going to lose on appeal.
I used to teach my students, many of them future prosecutors, if you bring a Rico case, that increases your chances of winning a trial and losing on appeal. The same thing is true with conspiracy and other cases involving mental states. And so all four of these cases are designed to get quick convictions in jurisdictions that are heavily loaded against Donald Trump.
And these prosecutors don’t care as much as prosecutors generally do about having the convictions reversed on appeal, because that will happen after the election, which only goes to prove what I’ve been arguing now for months. If you’re going after the man who’s runningagainst your incumbent president, you had darn well better have the strongest case possible. And these are among the four, at least three of them, three weakest cases I’ve ever seen against any candidate. We don’t know about the fourth, but it seems like it’s very much like the DC case.
And if you’re going after the man running for president against your person, you have to have the strongest case. Otherwise, it becomes a banana republic. Anybody can prosecute anybody. And we’re opening the door to prosecutionof Democrats by Republicans, Republicans by Democrats. It’s what Alexander Hamilton wrote in The Federalist isthe most dangerous threat to democracy, and we’re seeingit unfold in front of our eyes.Very, very tragically.

I’m not a Republican, I’m not a Trump supporter, but I care deeply about the Constitution.I care deeply about preserving the rule of law. And we’re seeing it being fritter away for partisan political purposes.”

I thought someone here said the Rubble was doing real well!

LONDON (AP) — The Russian ruble on Monday reached its lowest value since the early weeks of the war in Ukraine as Moscow increases military spending and Western sanctions weigh on its energy exports.

It led Russia’s central bank to announce an emergency meeting for Tuesday to review its key interest rate, raising the likelihood of an increase in borrowing costs that would support the flagging ruble.

The Russian currency had passed 101 rubles to the dollar, continuing a more than one-third decline in its value since the beginning of the year and hitting the lowest level in almost 17 months. The ruble recovered slightly after the central bank’s announcement.

Here in Queensland things are looking pretty crook for the Palacechook Government; with 40% LNP vs 28% ALP primary – a gap that even the Meaanjin Greens and the small sample size won’t cover.

In fact, in 1960, Hawaii sent both Dem and Repub electors – the Repub ones were the ones “certified” by the SoS. Nixon (as VP) then chose the Dem ones anyway (there was reason, I agree).

In 2016, Dems and “celebrities” were urging DJT electors to instead vote for Clinton.

It’s freaking incredible. The US justice system certainly had faults; I’m not starry eyed about about that, but it was the best justice system in the world. In fact, as Cernovich says, it was the envy of the world until the Demonrats got to it with a wrecking ball.

Envy of the world? Where are the quotes from people in other countries passionately wishing they had the US justice system? It’s bollocks.

When Tamanny Hall ran NYC, they owned plenty of judges, and Al Capone had several in his pocket in Chicago. Then there’s Las Vegas in the 50s and 60s. Louisiana, FFS. There are plenty of other examples.

I’m not saying that the US system is particularly bad, but claiming that it was ever a beacon of integrity, just like the political system, is ahistorical nonsense. Both have been riddled with corruption from Day 1. It’s the American Way.

People from Anglo countries often disparage the legal systems of countries which are based on, or similar to, the Napoleonic Code. I reckon that in 95%+ of cases, the outcome is the same, if they play by the rules.

If I was charged with an offence, I wouldn’t be worried about being tried under the Napoleonic Code type of process, as long as everyone was playing with a straight bat.

And, that’s something which can’t be guaranteed in any jurisdiction.

Reasons say the birds. Reasons say the trees. Reasons say the furry animals that play, jump and laugh near your feet.

Of course you refuse but upon returning to the village you find that everyone has met the rabbi and most of them used his poisoned needle. Some were smothered by the trees. Some were eaten by the small animals. But we must give thanks and praise to the chocolate rabbi since most survived and were eligible for promotion.

But here is the thing. Those who refused the needle were only allowed to work minimum wage thereafter. So the rabbi had placed an institutional filter on the villages labour market.

Nothing like this could happen in the modern world but you are missing the point if you think I am merely arguing against aether denial or special relativity. I am saying they are so stupid and so maliciously idiotic that they were set up as institutional filters for physics.

Don’t be dogmatic twit. Russia continues to trade with the West, but indirectly so as those countries simply re-label the shit Russian importers want to buy if it’s western sourced.

Even so, BRIC countries currencies haven’t collapsed by a third against the dollar, so there’s impact and it makes Russian imports more expensive by a third. On birds swooping. We are on our way down the coast staying overnite in a Nambucca waterfront apartment with ocean and lagoon views and we’ve just seen from the balcony two amazing Sea Eagles swoop down to collect their evening meal. The bigger one, the male of the pair, made two swoops emerged triumphant at the second one clutching a dark and small fish, but the female is still swooping. They are the most beautiful birds.

As I was leaving the office after checking in standing at the door for a moment, I felt something feathery land on my shoulder, a bird of some sort. It then started creeping around over my back. As I bent over in surprise an older man appeared and reached out for the bird. Apparently it had initially hoped I was the office manager, a woman of my height, and was getting annoyed that in the shadows it had been tricked. This bird is a little green peach-face parrot which flies and lives free but has a special friendship with the office manager and accompanies her everywhere outside on her shoulder. Like Odin’s ravens, I thought, or Pirate Pete’s percher, for a human shoulder is an ideal perch. I stroked its head in the man’s hand, and it tried to nip me for not being her. They know their own.

<strong>Trump Indicted for Claims of ‘Stolen’ Election in Georgia; Stacey Abrams Still Walks Free

Twice-failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate and national Democrat celebrity Stacey Abrams is still free as of Monday, despite having maintained for years that her 2018 race was stolen — a claim for which former President Donald Trump has been indicted.

Trump and 18 others — including lawyers, campaign aides, and supporters — were indicted in Fulton County, Georgia, on Monday on a collective 41 counts for their claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen — not just in Georgia, but elsewhere.

The indictment, however, describes “acts” furthering the “conspiracy” that largely consist of public statements, protests, claims at hearings, and even posts on social media — the very same kinds of actions and statements Abrams and her allies made for years.

Like Trump and his associates, Abrams made her claims of a stolen election repeatedly, from public platforms (and appears to have believed them). Like Trump, Abrams enlisted the help of political allies — and, worse, other elected Democratic officials.

Like Trump, Abrams took her claims to court, where they were dismissed even by otherwise sympathetic judges. Like Trump, Abrams nevertheless persuaded the media and supporters that her election was, in fact stolen; many still believe it to this day.

Abrams just went to work convincing virtually all mainstream media that the election was stolen from her (some of it before the election actually happened, Michelle Goldberg wrote that Kemp was trying to “rig” it ahead of the vote.) Legal, if completely false.

— Zaid Jilani (@ZaidJilani) August 15, 2023

And yet no prosecutor — not in Fulton County, not in the whole state of Georgia, and certainly not on the federal level — has ever prosecuted Stacey Abrams for her efforts, which apparently are a crime in the Peach State, involving potentially serious felonies.

Curiously, Abrams went on to help organize what Time magazine described as a “shadow campaign” to “save” the 2020 election.

That effort involved changing voting rules and using private funds to help public officials turn out votes in Democratic counties.

Similarly, no one has ever been charged, in Georgia or elsewhere, for their involvement in the “Russia collusion” hoax, which aimed to overturn the 2016 presidential election.

Many of its proponents are in senior roles in the Biden administration today.

A lot of the ‘reasons’ spouted everywhere from here to The Grauniad are demonstrably wrong. For example, that couples can’t afford to have children because housing prices.

All over the world, and throughout history, people have had large families irrespective of housing prices, and if it meant a dozen people living in a few rooms, so be it.

It is not about housing prices, but about attitudes and expectations.

I see those US House Hunters programs where the buyers declare that unless each child has a bedroom with ensuite, war will break out. Like the men who choose high maintenance women, they are proud of being bullied.

It’s pretty obvious that justice is dead in Portland, and has been for a while. Peter Boghossian, also an ex-Portlander, interviewed Andy a day or two ago. Worth listening to. Boghossian has a theory, one that I agree with, which is that the residents of Portland, Seattle, San Fran and all the other progressive shit holes, the same progressive residents who continue to vote for far-left candidates and governments, need to have it shoved down their throats good and hard. He says that the remaining police in these blue cities need to be not just defunded but also disbanded, and then Portlanders et al can live with the consequences of their voting habits. Boghossian has a point.

We both enjoy the ambience of a high floor looking up and down the strip at dusk as the lights rise, and the ocean in the morning, if there is sun, as there was, is an excellent boost for the day’s drive ahead. There was some boring convention going on and they gave us tickets for a free coffee or wine when I checked in while Hairy parked. I forgot about them but we used them this morning for take-out coffee for the road. Perhaps they think we’re skiving off from the conference, I say, for many’s the conference I’ve quit after the intros, and those old habits of die hard.

We ate last night at an Indian restaurant that was chock full of Indians (some Sikhs with turbans too), where we were the only Europeans. It was, as Hairy put it, a high tech Bangalore style, where you had to use a QR code (just like Covid) to make your order. He had his phone but I’d forgotten mine. He simply refused to use his to order though; stood on his ground and made a fuss. It took us half and hour then to get someone authorised and competent enough to take our order, once they had scoured the place for a printed menu (most things on the old one they found were ‘off’) and has sourced a pencil and notepad and a literate and female person. There were four other ‘waiters’ as well as this woman who was behind the bar, plus a Dutton look-alike (Indian toned) who was maitre d’. All were deeply concerned about us and our ordering incapacities, until the woman took pity on us with her ancient notepad. We realised that the waiters and the maitre d’ had nothing at all to do with ordering, their main job was to carry the ordered food out of the kitchen. They coud only point at the code and shrug. Who knew that physically written literacy was so on the way out?

Our physically transcribed order confused the kitchen anyway. Hairy’s lamb spinich curry arrived as ordered but my chicken buryani was a basic pilaf with sad cauliflower, frozen peas and a few carrots. I searched it for chicken but there was none. We proceeded to eat, as it was getting late, and only at payment time were told that they thought the chicken would be ‘too hot’ for our palates. lol. We’ve both lived in South Asia and love hot curry, we told the woman at the bar taking our money (couldn’t do it the normal way), and she launched into a vivid description of how their last European customer had nearly collapsed on them after ordering a ‘hot’ curry, and so they were wary. Even though he did use the QR code.

The best thing…moments away from the City via the Docklands light rail. Second best thing…the college/uni/observatory precinct. Great place to stay if you don’t want to take out a bank loan.

At Heathrow we always stay at the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel aka the Holiday Inn. Run by friendly Indians, a bit ordinary re decor, but it’s right there at the airport – you get off a long haul flight, eyes hanging out on stalks and all you want is a clean, comfy bed. Cadbury to bring back iconic chocolate after almost a decade and fans will be thrilled (11 Aug)

Cadbury’s chocolate coins were discontinued in 2014 due to the treat not being “profitable” for the company as similar versions were sold by supermarkets at a cheaper price.

The chocolate giant has now announced it is bringing back the iconic coins, an absolute Christmas favourite. Cadbury’s chocolate coins will be available in supermarkets across the UK from September 2023.

As a kid I thought the Cadbury chocolate gold coins were awesome, and just loved to peel them and eat them one by one. I hope they’ll get a run here as well as in the UK.

I was talking about the collapse of the Rubble. And no, selling more of these missiles doesn’t make up for the loss of living standards incurred by the Russian people.Having to sell more missiles because of a currency collapse is not a good thing for Russians either.

Hang on, I thought devaluation of the currency made a country more competitive.

Depends on what’s driving it. Argentina’s currency falls by about 5% a week and the nation isn’t competitive.

The whole premise around exporting is to import goods at the cheapest possible level to help consumers. Ideally, you want a strong currency with rising exports thereby making imports cheaper. A currency collapse is terrible.

‘Leave me alone’: Lang Hancock, Gina Rinehart’s final years under microscope in royalties case
Jesinta Burton
August 15, 2023 — 4.28pm

After a four-year row over his dying wishes, a gravely ill Lang Hancock penned a letter to his daughter Gina Rinehart pleading for her to leave him alone to live the rest of his life in peace, a court has been told.

The 1989 letter, aired by lawyers for Rinehart’s eldest children Bianca Rinehart and John Hancock in the multibillion-dollar civil dispute over ownership of Hancock Prospecting’s Hope Downs iron ore mines, came after an attempt by Lang to set out assets Gina and her children were set to inherit.

In it, Lang told his only daughter she would gain a majority shareholding in the empire upon his death, with her children to inherit the majority of the trust housing his mining assets, including Hope Downs.

“Now that the dividends have started to flow, and the arrangement itself is being executed, I would appreciate it if you would leave me alone and let me live the rest of my life in peace,” he wrote.

The letter was the culmination of years of infighting over Lang’s estate, according to Bianca and John’s lawyer Christopher Withers, which became a point of contention in 1985 after he wed his housekeeper Rose Porteous.

The court was told Lang was being pressured to leave Porteous a 50 per cent share of the “big money”, but Gina was waging her own battle for a majority share of his estate.

The row would cost Gina her role as director of the family empire, prompting threats to sue him for misappropriation of assets, excessive spending and engaging in “potentially ruinous deals” and a draft petition to overthrow him.

Withers said Lang intended to leave his four grandchildren a majority shareholding in the family trust and that remained the case until a series of eleventh-hour changes to his will, including those former solicitor Carnegie Fieldhouse claimed he made in 1991 “under duress”.

“At the time of this visit in Sydney, I met with him, and he was worried, tired and exhausted,” Fieldhouse said.

“He had had enough of the pressure of Rose and simply wanted some peace.”

In the months before he died, Lang demanded the changes made to assign the mining assets to Porteous be undone.

Hancock Prospecting’s lawyer Noel Hutley insisted Hope Downs belonged to the company, and the tenements were only placed in the trust as part of an elaborate scheme Lang devised to siphon money out.

He said Lang did that for his and Porteous’ benefit, and in a way that kept Hancock Prospecting shareholders, including Rinehart, in the dark.

Hutley claimed Gina took the tenements back as part of his dying wish to right his wrongs.

But Withers said that story was one she concocted and supplied documents he said proved Gina was aware of her father’s asset shifts and that the moves she made after his death were part of a “deliberate” and “calculated scheme” designed to defraud her children.

When John quizzed her about the asset shifts she was making, Withers told the court Gina peddled the same “false narrative” Hancock Prospecting had brought to trial.

“Gina had a standalone fiduciary obligation arising from the 1988 agreement and her children had a reasonable assumption their mother would act in their best interests,” he told the court.

“They were minors and unable to safeguard their rights themselves. There was no one in place to protect the interests of the children.

“Gina was able to divert the assets and destroy the trust and when he [Lang] died, Gina controlled the trust, Hancock Prospecting… and every other company in the group.

Withers said at the hearing he had evidence Gina knew her father intended to leave the assets to her children, pointing to a press release from 1996 during her row with Porteous in which Gina said control of the foundation was to be held for her children.

He vowed to supply documents to the court later this week which he said would show the extraordinary lengths Gina went to to shift the assets and acquire a major shareholding in the trust left for her children.

“She wanted to get those shares and she was pressing Lang to give them to her. And she achieved it,” he said.

Gina’s daughter Bianca was again in court on Tuesday sitting in the back of the public gallery as details of her long-running stoush were aired in court after years suppressed by deeds the parties signed not to air the claims publicly.

The stoush has pitted Australia’s richest person against the descendants of her pioneer father’s business partner, Peter Wright, her eldest children and the company left behind by Pilbara engineer Don Rhodes.

Wright Prospecting claims it is entitled to a portion of the royalties from Hope Downs, which is home to four operational mines owned by Hancock Prospecting and Rio Tinto, under a 1980s partnership deed.

Rhodes’ family company, DFD Rhodes, insists he also played a critical role in discovering the mammoth iron ore deposit, which entitled him to a 1.25 per cent stake in its proceeds under a separate 1969 agreement.

Hancock Prospecting and its executive chair Rinehart maintain the Hope Downs assets and royalties belong to them, insisting they put in the work to recover them and invest in their development after they were confiscated by the state government.

The case continues.

Life imitates art which imitates life.

Donald, there’s a lawyer in regional NSW, Australia your father ought to hire as legal adviser/strategist. The dude is pretty quirky, but he would be a great add to the team. Let me know if you’re interested as I promise you Snr will not be disappointed. Trust me.

And that may be so. It might fall to someone in his office, who would then brief him on the particulars, and especially the downfalls.

Or…if they did so, they might lose their job.

Plausible deniability.

2 @DonaldJTrumpJr This is what he wrte abt the Georgia case. “jury selection in the GA indictment will be fun. RICO charges require victims. Since, presumably, the Fulton county electors were the victims of Trump’s heinous phone call how then can they be the source of the jury”

3. @DonaldJTrumpJr DM me if you want his details.

On This Day:

1057 – King Macbeth is killed at the Battle of Lumphanan by the forces of Máel Coluim mac Donnchada.

Let’s go to the tape:

I will not yield,
To kiss the ground before young Malcolm’s feet,
And to be baited with the rabble’s curse.
Though Birnam wood be come to Dunsinane,
And thou opposed, being of no woman born,
Yet I will try the last. Before my body
I throw my warlike shield. Lay on, Macduff,
And damn’d be him that first cries, ‘Hold, enough!’

Yeah, well, that’s what you get for being a doormat for your gold-seeking missus.

Agree. I would have liked to have seen Mo do that on an El Al flight.

Would have had his finest hour, providing target practice for the El Al sky marshals.

The chocolate giant has now announced it is bringing back the iconic coins, an absolute Christmas favourite. Cadbury’s chocolate coins will be available in supermarkets across the UK from September 2023.

How cash will end up – only allowed occasionally and with time limits attached.

Come on, give these people a break.

There’s lots of stuff you have to read when you’re running a country. Nobody can read everything – it’s like expecting someone to read the instructions for installing a new printer.

It’s a generous offer to re-elect Labor.
All right?
