The head of NSW Treasury has made a bizarre apology for sending out a staff email that condemned the Hamas atrocities in Israel.
In a newsletter last week, Treasury Secretary Michael Coutts-Trotter — the partner of federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek — wrote that it was “not possible to write without acknowledging the horror and suffering in Israel”.
In “condemning the atrocities committed by Hamas”, Coutts-Trotter said he hoped for a “swift end to the violence”.
However, that was followed by another email where Coutts-Trotter said it was his job to “lead in a way that ensures everyone feels equally valued and included”.
“It’s clear I failed to do that with comments about the Hamas attack on Israel that I made in an email to you all last week,” he wrote.
