My heart is in my boots right now. Usually I’m upbeat, but the spectacle of Christians praying for “innocent” Palestinians in Gaza and neglecting the genuinely innocent hostages stolen from their homes is just beyond the pale.

Where was this, calli?

(I can easily imagine it happening at the usual places of self-worship where ‘social justice’ & virtue signalling have been substituted for the gospel & praise, but you seem to be referring to something specific.)

There was a Labor woman MLC in NSW who got stuck into the peado thing here. She received no support from the Party, and soon lost pre-selection.

Can’t recall her name, but IIRC, she was of Italian ethnicity. The Liars have a long, and unsavoury, history with paedos.

I don’t get this. Social media and various rightwing news sites are very excited about the Hidens moving money around within the family circle. Hiden’s brother apparently sent a cheque for 200K to brother Joe. It’s supposed to indicate corruption etc. The problem is though the cheque is dated 2018 when Hiden was unemployed.

Not only did the PM lose the Yes campaign he also:

Gave Dutton a massive win
Created a super star in Jacinta Price
Showed the country how little support all his Ministers had on this issue. Even his Aboriginal Ministers seat voted No.
Killed Treaties in the states which were already in progress. A major policy dilemma now for Labor Governments.
In Qld reinvigorated LNP support as leader came out against treaties.
Opened the eyes of the public to Aboriginal issues, native title and treaties and finding etc.
Helped the people learn more about certain Aboriginal leader’s.

Thanks Albo. Amazing work .

Rosie, I think I will tackle it in person, but after much prayer and at the right time and in the right frame of mind. I think I have to put a “face” on the abstraction that many Aussie Christians see as Jewry.

For too long the “face” of Islam has been a constant in our media, always as suffering some sort of slight or glossed over when crimes are committed. It has a way of infecting the mind.

Day after day, week after week, Muslims are murdering Christians in Africa and elsewhere, just for being Christian. I don’t feel like playing “nice”, but calling a spade a spade. The niceness is a form of verbal jizya.

Even the terrorism and acts of barbarism committed on Oct 7 are described as an “incursion”. Why? It was terrorism, not a stroll across the border to attack the military.

Sometimes I have trouble even recognising my fellow believers.

Sydney mosque farewells ‘martyrs’ killed while attacking Israel

Exclusive

A Sydney mosque has farewelled and commemorated three Hezbollah “martyrs”, two of whom were killed while firing mortars into Israel, in a ceremony that included a vow to carry on “peacefully”.

On Saturday, about 400 people filed into Masjid Arrahman – also known as Al Rahman Mosque – in Kingsgrove, southwest Sydney, to commemorate three Hezbollah fighters who died this week in Lebanon: Taha Abbas Abbas, Ali Marmar and Hussam Ibrahim.

The three men were all members of the Iranian-backed Shiite terrorist organisation Hezbollah, which controls Southern Lebanon.

On Wednesday, Hezbollah announced that Abbas and Marmar had been killed while “on jihad”.

The pair were killed by an IDF drone strike as they were firing mortar shells into Israel from Southern Lebanon.

Ibrahim was killed by Israeli shelling earlier this month.

DON’T WAIT, ISRAEL

Israeli troops are poised to enter Gaza, but Western governments are encouraging delay:

Hamas, playing Joe Biden like a violin–not that that is difficult–released two American hostages, giving Biden a foreign policy “victory.”

But the reality is that the fate of all of the kidnap victims is in the hands of Hamas.

There is no point is allowing the terrorists to manipulate Israeli policy.

Israel’s first order of business should be exacting revenge against Gaza for the horrors of October 7. Most if not all of Gazan society has collaborated with Hamas over nearly two decades to turn that polity into the most hellish place on Earth, with a culture that is utterly dominated by Jew-hatred.

Killing all the Jews between the river and the sea has long been the sole goal of Gaza’s foreign and domestic policies.

After World War II, many Germans claimed that they didn’t know about the Holocaust. Some of them may have been telling the truth.

On the other hand, no one who lives in Gaza can have been ignorant of that polity’s genocidal purposes.

Further, while Hamas, like the Nazi Party, is the duly elected government of Gaza, Hamas actually got a majority of the vote, which the Nazis never did.

So Gazan “civilians,” assuming there are any, need to experience the full wrath of Israel’s revenge.

The situation is the same as what obtained in Germany in 1945: Gazans need to experience the full horror of war, so that the survivors’ memories of October 7 will always provoke a shudder, and no Gazan will ever again propose wiping out the Jews.

So, yes, Israel must kill everyone who is associated with Hamas in any way, so that that organization will never rise again.

But the first order of business should be revenge against the Gazans who for years have been working to exterminate Israel’s Jews.

And it should begin now.

Indigenous Yes campaigners divided on Voice response, draft reveals
Lisa Visentin
By Lisa Visentin
October 22, 2023 — 5.00am

Indigenous leaders are divided over the wording of a joint statement following the Voice referendum defeat, with several objecting to the tone of a draft open letter, which lays blame for the loss on the Coalition and is critical of No voters.

The draft document, intended as the first collective response of Indigenous leaders supporting the Yes campaign after declaring a week of silence following the referendum defeat last Saturday, lays bare the grief and pain among the Yes campaign group and the broader Indigenous community.

It says Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were “hurting and bewildered by what they feel is the viciousness of the repudiation of our peoples and rejection of our efforts to pursue reconciliation in good faith”.

“The truth is that the majority of Australians have committed a shameful act whether knowingly or not, and there is nothing positive to be interpreted from it. Only the shameless could say there is no shame in this outcome,” the statement says.

The document, dated October 20, a leaked copy of which has been obtained by this masthead, is the latest in a series of draft versions circulated among about 50 Indigenous people and organisations, including those associated with the Yes 23 and Uluru Dialogue campaigns.

The document says it is “the collective insights and views of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, community members and organisations who supported the Yes Campaign”.

The draft statement signalled a pathway forward, saying Indigenous leaders would seek to amend the Uluru Statement from the Heart “to remove the aim of enshrining a First Nations Voice in the Constitution”.

But it says they remained committed to its principles of Voice, Treaty, Truth, and would pursue other options for establishing a representative body for Indigenous Australians.

“We want to talk with our people and our supporters about establishing – independent of the Constitution or legislation – an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to take up the cause of justice for our people,” the draft statement says.

The statement says the referendum was “doomed from the time the National Party and then the Liberal Party said they would oppose it and bipartisanship was lost”.

“Mr [David] Littleproud, Mr [Peter] Dutton and the political parties they lead are responsible for this result.”

It is unclear who has written the statement or who would endorse it, but multiple sources confirmed to this masthead that, after the draft was circulated on an email chain on Friday, several Indigenous leaders declined to be part of it, saying they disagreed with the tone and some of the points made.

Those who objected included Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner June Oscar, co-chairman of Queensland’s Interim Truth and Treaty Body Mick Gooda, and Coalition of the Peaks lead convener Pat Turner. They were contacted for comment.

The draft document also expressed gratitude for the millions of Australians who voted Yes.

“We have faith that the upswelling of support through this referendum has ignited a fire for many to walk with us on our journey towards healing and justice. Our truths have been silenced for too long,” it said.

But it said rejection by non-Indigenous Australians “who came to our country in only the last 235 years” was “so appalling and mean-spirited as to be utterly unbelievable a week later”.

It praises Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s “gallantry in the campaign” but is critical of his “attempted exculpation of those who voted No”, and takes aim at Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk “and other such cynics who lifted not one finger to support the campaign”.

The document is addressed to the prime minister and “every Member of the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Commonwealth Parliament” and states that it will be circulated to the Australian public and media. Sources close to the Yes campaign were briefing media during the week that the statement was expected to be circulated this weekend, but its status was unclear on Saturday evening.

It accuses leading Indigenous No campaigners Jacinta Nampijinpa Price and Warren Nyunggai Mundine, and Liberal senator Kerrynne Liddle of being “front people” for the organisations who led the No Campaign’s success.

It further states that Price’s entry to parliament as senator “was decisive to the abandonment of bipartisanship”.

We should use the barbaric recent demonstrations to make a point to our self-selected so-called elites.

Those “elites” routinely claim that Australia is a “successful multicultural nation”. Yet they remain silent when tens of thousands of a particular cultural/religious group march through the streets, calling for the deaths of another cultural/religious group. That they shield their eyes from the implications this lays bare the falsity of their pompous claims.

What is to be done, as Lenin asked?

Those with access via subscription to the media should use every opportunity to highlight the stupidity of the “successful multicultural nation” claim. Raise it in discussions with family and friends. Shirtfront politicians you meet in the street (a practice that Cassie excels at).

But don’t waste time and effort writing to government politicians. You will get a form letter in response, and the politician will never see your letter.

It’s horrible what’s happening to Palestinians’: Melbourne marches
By Najma Sambul

As rain falls down on the protesters in Melbourne, onlookers are yelling “intifada”, which means uprising in Arabic.

One onlooker, a lawyer Emily, just moved to Melbourne from Newcastle and observed the protest from the street with her partner Michael.“We support this protest,” she said “It’s horrible what’s happening to Palestinians.”

A sign reads “Albanese you’re complicit, genocide is illicit”

The protest is now on La Trobe Street heading back to State Library.

Australian Keith Langford, 74, said his humanity brought him out to march today.

“I think the Palestinian cause is one for all human beings to get behind because it is so unjust. You just can’t see Palestinians suffering, their land shouldn’t have been taken away from them in the first place.”

“I’m very upset because Israel has launched a war of genocide against the people of Gaza and killing them en masse.”

Tell me, Emily, wasn’t it just as horrible what happened to those Israelis?

Exactly I’m expecting Chrisifulli to pull a rabbit out of a hat and do a John Hewson 1993 next year. If he does get in next question I have is he going to repeal any Treaty measures? I may put that to his office this week being on a hiatus myself.

As for ALP being between rock and hard place, 3 seats up this way Townsville, Thuringowa and Mundingburra booths mostly between 65-80% no. All 3 have poorly performing ALP types or dickheads who think they are Rocky Balboa in the Flinders st nightclub precinct like Les Walker representing them. You just can’t see Palestinians suffering, their land shouldn’t have been taken away from them in the first place.”

In 1947, the UK turned the Palestine problem over to the UN. Read more. After looking at alternatives, the UN proposed terminating the Mandate and partitioning Palestine into two independent States, one Palestinian Arab and the other Jewish, with Jerusalem internationalized (Resolution 181 (II) of 1947).

One in eight Londoners don’t believe Hamas is a terrorist organisation.

So, that means one in eight Londoners agree with Hamas’ charter to annihilate Jews, and Hamas’ charter is very specific that it wants to annihilate Jews not only across the middle east but also across the globe.

The majority of those Arabs heeded the call of their leaders to leave their homes and land – they could return when the invading Armies had “driven the Jews into the sea.”

At the same time, Israel was absorbing an equal number of Jews who had been expelled from their Arab birthplaces, in almost all cases, with the clothes they stood up in.

Typical Cringing Labor Minister Ed Husic says Palestinian civilians paying an ‘utterly horrible price’ for Hamas’ brutal incursion into Israel

Science and Industry Minister Ed Husic has expressed concern for the Palestinian civilians caught up in the war between Hamas and Israel, arguing there must be a more “strategic and precise” way to hold the terror group to account.

From the Comments

– How do you know who is Hamas or not, the video seen on the day the terrorists attacked showed an Israeli tank on fire and the people dancing around it were just dressed as civilians.

So is this what Hamas looks like or do they wear military gear.

An Israeli soldier might think they are seeing civilians when in fact they could be Hamas.

That mistaken identity could cost the soldier his life.

Very much what our soldiers faced in Afghanistan, this is why civilians can be killed in wars like these.

– Hamas follows no rules, so this minister needs to clarify what he means by international law, or even better still stop opening this mouth.

I wonder who started all this, that’s right, the vicious barbarians who butchered innocent people.

– What is Palestine doing to aid in the return of the hostages? I’m sure many ‘innocent’ people know where they are.

Why don’t Palestinians side with Israel to wipe out Hamas?

I think this guy’s judgement is skewed by his belief system.

– You reap what you sow Mr Husic and Palestinians in their various representations such as Hamas, PLO, PIJ, Hezbollah etc have been sowing death and disorder for decades.

– So what does he suggest as a way to hold the abhorrent Hamas to account?

– I would like to tell Ed Husic and Anne Aly that this Gaza / Israel war would not have happened of the Hamas terrorists hadnt massacred so many Israeli’s because they were Jews !..
Israel is fighting for survival and rightly so .
If it happened in Australia we would do the same to save our country from terrorists and their atrocities!

– Got news for you mate…..they should not have let HAMAS live with them and develop into the terrorists they are … you dont get it .walk with terror and have it in your Country its a bad thing…..sorry can we just go back 2 weeks….yes it was Hamas that attacked slaughtered and took hostages from …..yes Israel And they have been attacking Israel for a long time so lets not forget the facts

– Husic needs to go. Where is his condemnation of the terrorist atta k against Israel? By allowing him to swear in on his book, he admitted to loyalty to that ideology above this country.

‘It is divided’: Anthony Albanese is ‘not in control’ of his Labor cabinet

Wrong side of history’: Democrats blasted for loss of ‘moral compass’ on Israel

Sky News host James Morrow says the Democrats are on the “wrong side of history” when it comes to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Mr Morrow said there is a “gross moral equivalence drawn” between Israelis and Palestinians.

He said the Palestinians have now been “elevated to the status of sainted victims” despite the crimes committed by Hamas.

“One of the most disappointing things about the past two weeks has been the way the left in general and Democrats … have lost any moral compass when it comes to Israel,” Mr Morrow said.

“When they’re confronted about it, Democrats run.

“Hamas’ attack on Israel was really part of a broader war on the civilised West.

“Which partially explains why the progressive left – still steeped in the bizarre Marxist liberation politics of the 1960s that now comes out in expressions like decolonisation.

For Cats and Kittehs so inclined:

A phrase often used as mouthwash by leftists to try to take some of the repulsive stink off their breaths as they enunciate their putrescent prescriptions is:

Everything is politics

politics being the one skill they claim after choosing to spend endless hours and months and years immersing themselves in political treatises with seemingly perfect postdictive (but tragically no predictive) power. They might not be able to foretell events but make up for that with a painfully distended surfeit of explanations afterward.

Every eruption of Marxism (such as Cuba and Venezuela) is predicted to produce a proletarian utopia. Each time instead it ends up a corrupt, sclerotic, self-absorbed regime atop a miserable impoverished people who are almost invisible through the choking pall of internecine infighting.

Then they are overflowing, like an overtaxed septic tank behind a bleeding-edge beef-vindaloo restaurant, with explanations for what was done wrong.

So, returning to my original point (although I cannot really vouch for its originality) the ‘Everything is politics’ line.

My understanding was that it was a line by Thomas Mann in The Magic Mountain, spoken by a character who at the time reflected Mann’s thoughts. It was an earlier idea of his where he outlined what he thought was actually a weakness of liberal democracy.

The Germany that Mann exalted at the time he did so because it could simply make a decision and the thing would be done, while among the French and the English there would be persistent squabbling and compromise leading to an blunted enfeebled resolution.

He later changed his mind of course. Partly by the outcomes of WWI, and certainly before WWII.

But the resort to ‘Everything is politics’ is ironically an invitation to an ineffecatious muddle. It does not justify politicisation, it cautions against it. In truncated form devoid of its context it looks like an injunction to effective action. In fact it is, if voiced with the context of the story, better rendered as ‘beware of politics’.

But lefties have difficulty confronting their own slogans because, in reality, all their brilliant, nuances arguments are nothing but slogans – merely uttered with the confidence they are so much more*. (We have all had to put up with arguments that have ended in assertions treated as irrefutable truths.)

* As one philosopher put it: imagine an infinite sequence of telephone poles. You do not imagine infinity. You image perhaps 20, diminishing in size as they go. But that image also exactly describes 20 telephone poles. The difference is a feeling or expectation separate but attached. Lefties have very boring and flat ideas, but they imbue them with a feeling of profundity. They are amazingly beyond 20, doncha know. Just ask them.

Australian Keith Langford, 74, said his humanity brought him out to march today.
The kind of “humanity” than turns a blind eye to what happened on October 7.

I have come to the conclusion that humans cling to false narratives that make them feel good about themselves.

Critical thinking takes effort, and the conclusions are often not what you hope for. While our current structure of education has largely abandoned to principles of detailed and impartial research in the Humanities, nothing excuses the blindness of a 74 year old to what has happened. I can only attribute it to – yes – lack of research – &, more significantly, the “feel good” approach of supporting the “underdog” AKA the Palestinians.

It always amazes me that support for the apparent “underdog” permits acceptance of all sorts of evil in that vessel. An old friend – an ostensibly intelligent ex lawyer – has always supported the Palestinians. Years ago, he would say to me, “Vicki, they only have stones to throw & the Israelis have machine guns”. Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton said he thinks the release of two American hostages by Hamas on Friday was a delay tactic, The Hill reports.

“Well obviously we should be very happy that at least two people have been let go,” Bolton was quoted as having said in an interview with Newsmax. “But … given the way Hamas put it, and given what we know about Hamas and how it operates, what the character of its leadership is, I have to say for those concerned with the other hostages, I think this is an entirely cynical move by them.”

Bolton opined that the release of the two hostages was an effort by Hamas to delay the IDF from going into Gaza, warning the delay will allow Hamas to “create more booby traps for them.”

“And it puts the lives of the remaining 200 plus hostages in even further jeopardy, but this is … hard logic to talk about it this way,” Bolton told Newsmax. “We’d hope that a civilized group would … leave everybody, let everybody go. That isn’t going to happen. They’re trying to play for time here, that’s what this is about.”

Moore to block proposal to light up Sydney Town Hall in Israeli colours

Lord Mayor Clover Moore will block a proposal to fly the Israeli flag outside Sydney Town Hall and light the building in blue and white, saying it would be divisive, harmful and counter to the city’s values of harmony and inclusion.

Liberal councillor Shauna Jarrett has listed a motion for Monday’s council meeting to illuminate Town Hall in the colours of the Israeli flag “as a mark of respect from the City of Sydney for Israel and the Jewish community”.

Several other Sydney councils are grappling with competing calls for gestures of goodwill regarding the Israeli-Hamas conflict, including Randwick, where a councillor is trying to undo a previous commitment to fly the Palestinian flag next month.

Moore, Sydney’s long-serving independent lord mayor, criticised the state government’s decision to light up the Sydney Opera House in the colours of the Israeli flag in the immediate aftermath of the Hamas terrorist group’s attacks on Israel on October 7. “I didn’t agree with that, taking one side or the other,” she said.

Is Lord Mayor Clover Moore just Plain Stupid or as Thick as a Brick saying it would be divisive, harmful and counter to the city’s values of harmony and inclusion.?

Labor Senator Wong’s three words have reignited Israel debate

Australia has traditionally been a loyal friend of the state of Israel but three words from Labor Senator Penny Wong highlight the fragility of the situation.

As well as using the term Occupied Palestinian Territories, Senator Penny Wong called on Israel to exercise “restraint” after the Hamas attacks.

Hamas – already recognised as a terrorist organisation by Canberra – has lost much of its remaining international legitimacy through its latest massacre of Israeli civilians.

But it’s also lost legitimacy among its own people.

While democratically elected to govern Gaza 17 years ago, it has not held a vote since.

It blames Israel’s blockade for making it impossible to do so.

Israel rejects this.

And polls indicate Hamas’ popularity has plummeted to just 11 per cent after repeatedly using Palestinian civilians as human shields.

Nice piece in City Journal .

For years, left-wing intellectuals have treated “intersectionality” as an inevitability. The social theory, which holds that all oppressed peoples must join together to overthrow their common oppressor, has been an essential strategy of the Left.

There is some truth to this theory. When the fortunes of the Left are rising, intersectionality seems like a juggernaut: identity groups get aggregated into the mass, internal conflicts are subordinated to the cause of liberation, and a policy of “no enemies to the left” shifts political life in favor of the radicals. But the aura of inevitability surrounding the intersectional coalition is an illusion; moments of crisis can bring suppressed contradictions to the surface and begin a process of fragmentation.

The recent Hamas terror campaign against Israel might become such a crisis. Following the attack, the foot soldiers of intersectionality—most notably, Black Lives Matter (BLM), the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), and the academic “decolonization” movement—celebrated the militants who murdered civilians, raped women, and butchered babies. BLM’s Chicago chapter published a graphic lionizing the Hamas paraglider terrorists who killed innocents. The DSA blamed Israel for the terror attack against it, arguing that it was the “direct result of Israel’s apartheid regime.” Ivy League professors with expertise in “decolonization” called it a “stunning victory” and said that “Palestinians have every right to resist through armed struggle.”

For years, these academics and groups had been able to hide their ideological commitments and operate with an air of respectability. But after last week’s statements, they have encountered a well-deserved backlash. Jewish groups, including the generally left-wing Anti-Defamation League, have condemned BLM’s anti-Semitism. A Democratic congressman quit the DSA in protest. Major donors have rebuked Ivy League universities for failing to condemn Hamas forcefully. The Financial Times warned that the “left’s take on Hamas” could lead to a “Democratic party split.”

While the backlash against the radical Left’s support of terror is welcome, that support should not have come as a surprise. All of the groups have long promoted the violent “decolonization” of not just Israel but also the United States.

Labor is ‘only listening to the elites’ rather than ordinary Australians

Shadow Education Minister Sarah Henderson says strong Labor seats all said no to the Voice because ministers of the Albanese government are “only listening to the elites” rather than to ordinary Australians.

The Indigenous Voice was emphatically rejected by a majority of voters in every state and territory except the Australian Capital Territory at the referendum last weekend.

“Rather than the government listening to the activists, to the inner-city elites, and to the big corporations, it is time the government listened to ordinary Australians,” Ms Henderson told Sky News Australia.

“That’s why we’ve seen so many parts of Australia say no to the Voice.

“Strong Labor seats … all said no because these Labor members, these Labor ministers, are only listening to the elites, they’re only listening to the activists and not to ordinary Australians, including ordinary Indigenous Australians.”

Any Royal Commission will be controlled by the usual suspects, and would become a vehicle for bashing “witie” and “decolonisation”.
As examples, I give you the Royal Commissions into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody and the (so-called) Stolen Generations.

Raise you one, John:
A police chase involving an aboriginal, where the aboriginal crashes the car into a tree and kills himself is a “Death in Custody”. If the driver is an Effing White C**t, it isn’t.
All our stats need to be viewed in the light of providing ammunition to aboriginal victimisation, and widening the gap between the two.

‘Important visit’: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to travel to United States for ‘vital’ talks with President Biden

The Prime Minister is set to embark on a trip to the United States in what will be his ninth meeting with President Joe Biden as the possibility for broader conflict in the Middle East looms.

Summed up Perfectly by The First Comment

– Two idiots together.

– Nothing to go over there for except a dinner. Biden invited albodud, he thought I’ll get out if town as its too hot ,saves answering questions in parliament.

Forget the cost of living problem, forget climate change.

You know it does use heaps of fuel to fly the jet!! Then on the 4th November he’s off again to China. He’ll only be home to get the clothes washed and then bye!!

– The ALP has a long and well documented history of anti Israeli policies

– This wannabe has become a complete embarrassment to this country.
He is not even remotely close to being what you would call a leader.

– Albo…. an international embarrassment.

– This clown came to power promising utopia, affordable energy, cost of living measures, bringing the nation together, open and honest government,

and what has he delivered (1) the most divided nation in living memory, (2) unaffordable cost of living (3) the most expensive and unavailable energy system (4) the most highly paid politicians in the free world, (5) an immigration crisis (5) housing crisis (7) highest interest rates in recent memory & (8) a prime minister who has travelled more klms than any other person in the world, his emissions must be up there at the top end of the scale, little wonder the earth is burning.

It is time Albo and his travelling circus of Labor ministers stay and home and delivered on his election promises.

– Yes visit Israel and prove to us you’re not the socialistic and Palestinian supporter you’re seeming to be?

And by the by, there is absolutely no reason to go to China…that call is outrageous…who cares if they don’t buy our wine….there denigration of us as a nation for a start!

Chinas political stance is abhorrent, even to its own people and look who they support? the terrorists of the world!

– Albo is the Carbon Emissions King Hypocrite along with the in-hiding Blackout Chris Bowen, the Labor Minister for Climate, Change and Energy Policy – , Misinformation, Disinformation and Outright Dishonesty.

Hilarious black humour that John Bolton is being listened to by anyone. On the other hand these guys just keep on being invited onto the MSM . Choice of silk sees Lisa Wilkinson’s ties to Ten turn toxic

By stephen rice
NSW Editor
@riceyontheroad
10:25AM October 22, 2023

The split between Lisa Wilkinson and Channel 10 is becoming increasingly toxic, with legal sources suggesting the network’s refusal to pay her legal bills in the defamation case brought by Bruce Lehrmann stems in part from ill-feeling towards the barrister she chose, Sue Chrysanthou SC.

The Project host is believed to have hired her own legal team because she felt the network was more interested in defending itself than her.

The Weekend Australian understands Wilkinson’s concerns began when Ten retained leading defamation expert Matthew Collins KC, who had called her Logies speech “ill-advised” on breakfast television, on the morning after the awards.

The network hired Dr Collins – without her knowledge or input – just hours after he appeared on Seven’s Sunrise program saying her comments had the “tendency to interfere with the administration of justice”. “Now that’s an unusual situation, but that’s where she found herself when she was sued,” said a source. “That she was not being given any choice as to who the lawyers were or who the barristers were”

“If Justice Lee (presiding over the defamation case) were to say ‘Dr Collins, Ms Wilkinson has been accused of terrible conduct which aggravates damage because of her Logies speech – what do you have to say about that?’ And he says, ‘Oh, no. Well, I don’t think it’s improper conduct’ … isn’t the judge entitled to say ‘well, you actually called it ill-advised the following day?’”

When Mr Lehrmann launched his defamation action, Wilkinson hired Ms Chrysanthou and Gillis Delaney Lawyers partner Anthony Jefferies to defend her, and in doing so opted out of using law firm Thomson Geer, which Network 10 has on retainer. In a suit filed to the NSW Supreme Court, Wilkinson claims Ten is unlawfully refusing to pay legal bills totalling more than $700,000.

Legal sources claimed there was “open hostility” from Ten’s in-house legal team towards Ms Chrysanthou. The network first told the presenter she shouldn’t be represented by anyone but its own lawyers and that it wasn’t bound to pay for her separate representation.

When Wilkinson warned Ten she would file a cross claim against it in the Lehrmann case, the network obtained advice from Bret Walker SC, after which it agreed it was liable to indemnify Wilkinson against an award of damages or costs and for “reasonable legal costs”. However, law firm Baker & McKenzie, on behalf of Ten, then claimed Wilkinson’s lawyers had performed “substantial unnecessary work”.

Wilkinson quit The Project in November last year, calling out the “targeted toxicity” of media scrutiny she had encountered following an interview with Brittany Higgins and the subsequent Logies speech.

Friends say the network failed to come to her defence in the wake of claims by the ACT’s then-chief prosecutor, Shane Drumgold, that he had warned her of the dangers of giving the speech.

They say Ten did not want Wilkinson to give evidence at the Sofronoff Inquiry, which ultimately found Mr Drumgold “knowingly lied” to the Supreme Court over his purported warning.

“I mean, you didn’t see Channel 10 racing down to Canberra to participate in the Sofronoff Inquiry to defend her – that’s something she had to do off her own back,” the friend said.

The Logies speech may become part of the defamation case if Mr Lehrmann relies on it to receive aggravated damages.

maybe a truer “truism” is “everything is choice”.

Ah, but for the luminaries of the left, free choice simply refers to where proper, enlightened, regulation has not yet reached.

People can still freely choose between full cream and almond milk coffee because the choice has not legally yet been made for them.

It is a poisonous crumb of chaos that must eventually be brought by law into harmony with progressive doctrine.

We are creating a ghetto society of peoples who will never integrate.
The next step is a Nation of Tribes, then a Nation of Tribes at war with each other.

Geoffrey Blainey’s piece in the Oz

There are two different Australias. Admittedly, many Aboriginal Australians live in unsatisfactory and even appalling conditions. Also true is that a larger number in urban Australia have become important ingredients of our success as a modern nation. They are often overlooked.

On election night we often gathered from commentators the idea that most Aboriginal Australians lived in the Northern Territory or in remote tropical outposts to the east and west. In fact, NSW, especially Sydney and its far western hinterland, is the nation’s stronghold of Aboriginal people.

More live there than in any other state and territory; and an update from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows the surprising advances they have made in the 10 years from 2011 to 2021. Their life expectations are higher than the referendum booklet dismally reported. Of their houses, the overwhelming numbers are not overcrowded.

Ticking manipulation, it creates a very sour environment and also could distort the types of conversations that could occur on either side of the ticks. Our huge old bluey’s sitting five steps from where I type. He’s enjoying a patch of sun and a drip from the hose after a bellyful of beef and blueberries.

We are in Sydney & as soon as we arrive the resident water dragons arrive to wait to be fed – ditto the lorrikeets. The water dragons have their “table” – the base of an umbrella stand on our terrace – where they wait. Who says reptiles aren’t smart?

The lorikeets arrive at a small balcony upstairs where they stare in the window when we are watching TV. When husband goes downstairs they fly to the railing where they can spy him downstairs getting the saucer of honey (yes, birdlovers – I know they shouldn’t have honey!). The funny thing is that the water dragons feel they need to participate in this other venue & scale the wall and drape themselves on the outdoor chairs – trying to persuade husband to feed them as well.

This interference outrages the male lorikeets. Recently one male tried to intimidate the dragon by doing a sort of ritualistic dance right in the dragon’s face. Had no effect on the dragon, of course. We videoed the whole comedy & found we had a soundtrack from an old British gangster movie playing in the background. As the lorikeet fluttered and aggressively approached the dragon, he appeared to be uttering the movie dialogue….”I don’t know who he works for…he’s not saying anything…”! A very funny clip – my son-in-law apparently put it on TikTok.
