That Llewellyn guy is an utter piece of work. He couldnโt sleep straight in bed. He obviously didnโt want contact with BL. Using old work numbers, not using current numbersโฆwhat a slug.

Too many Cats here are exploring rational and diplomatic solutions when youโre literally fighting against the embodiment of irrationality.
Thereโs a chap on You Tube who asks Israelis and Palestinians (for want of a better term) questions sent to him by viewers.
One question to Palestinians was, โBefore Islam came, were your ancestors Jewish or Christian?โ
Most responders answered that they had always been Muslim.
โWhat, even before Mohammed?โ โYesโฆalways Muslim.โ
Only one young woman, not wearing a hijab, conceded that her ancestors would have been either Jewish or Christian.

The Project producer denies not making a โgenuine effortโ to get response from Lehrmann
Richardson is probing Llewellyn about the efforts he made to contact Lehrmann ahead of the broadcast, whether it was via email addresses, mobile phone numbers and social media account including LinkedIn and Instagram.
Llewellyn did not contact Lehrmann through his social media accounts but he did send him an email and called him on the day of the broadcast, Monday.
โMr Llewellyn, I want to suggest to you that the requests that you sent out on the 12th of February were not a genuine effort to obtain information.
Llewellyn: โThatโs incorrect.โ
Richardson suggested that when Llewellyn said in an email to colleagues that the questions were to โcover us off for defamationโ, it indicated he was not seeking a genuine reply. Llewellyn disagreed.

If the major Arab nations join in with the full force of their conventional armies, the problem is more substantial, but the record of conventional Arab armies against Israel is not good. Unless their performance is much improved, there would be higher casualties, but the nation of Israel would survive
The problem here is that, unlike the early Arab-Israeli wars, which were conventional conflicts, things have changed, and Israels opponents are using an asymmetric strategy, where combat power does not decide the outcome – guerillas ”win by not losing” …. they simply aim to persist until the will of their opponents home population fails.
In this case, the Israeli ‘home population’ includes the populations of the west, (from whence their economic and military support comes), and the ‘Gazan’ fighters includes the rest of the Arab world (because bombing gaza recruits them new supporters in Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank, and even London, Berlin, Sydney etc etc, etc…)

Re the Great War and staying out of it:
German Pacific territories above and below the Equator would have seen Australia involved anyway, in the absence of the Royal Navy. As would the hunting of German merchant cruisers targeting our exports to the Motherland.
A German victory would have seen at least Papua, and probably parts of northern Australia with few non-Aboriginal inhabitants, become German colonies, to add to German New Guinea.
Shit.

Still no sign of your alternative strategy for Israel.
You are going to have a long wait if you refuse to read my answer to that at 1033 good sir.
I had not seen your 1033 at the time I wrote that comment.
I have since seen it. As you state, you do not have a “winning strategy” to offer. Neither do you offer a strategy for a withdrawal to a safe haven. All that you offer is a counsel of despair. That is not helpful (unless you think that there is a circumstance in which the Israeli population can negotiate a way to live in peace among the Muslims who are sworn to exterminate them).

If enough Arab nations decided to attack Israel a modern conflict will be completely different. The failure of past attacks came down to Israel having much better trained personnel, delegation to unit commanders, better strategy and tactics and equal or superior hardware. The big problem is in a modern conflict those factors won’t be as important. It doesn’t matter how good missile defense is, saturation attacks will involve enough getting through to do serious damage.

Get a load of this as part of the Liars Industrial relations legislation.
A section has been included in the federal governmentโs new industrial relations legislation to enable an unprecedented attack on the more than 900,000 family businesses that employ people.
It represents the biggest change in business capitalism for a generation and the way it was thrust on family businesses without debate will cause deep anger.
Most family businesses, including those employing fewer than 15 people, will be subject to compulsory union power in a similar way to that exercised in large corporate areas such as commercial building and the waterfront

He’s CEO of a super fund. Of course he is.
Simon Sheikh (born 1986) is an Australian activist who is currently CEO of superannuation fund Future Super. He was the National Director of GetUp! from 2008 to 2012.[1] He was a delegate to the economics stream of the Australia 2020 Summit and was named the New South Wales Young Professional of the Year in 2007.[2]
Education and career
He was born in Sydney, and has ancestry from India, Pakistan, Britain, New Zealand and Australia.[3]
He is the son of Michael Sheikh, an Indian-born Pakistani industrial chemist and inventor and British New Zealander, Rhonda Badham. He attended Camdenville Public School and later gained entry to Fort Street High School.[4][5] He later studied economics at the University of New South Wales,[6] while working full-time in the Services Marketing team at Telstra and as a public servant at the NSW Treasury.[7]
Sheikh represented Australia as the youth representative at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Uganda in 2007.[2]
In 2009 he was part of the Sydney Leadership Program run by Social Leadership Australia at The Benevolent Society.[8]
GetUp!
He became National Director of GetUp! in September, 2008, at the age of 22.[9]
He stepped down from being National Director of GetUp! on 27 July 2012,[10] stating that he intended to avoid burnout. GetUp! claims its membership increased from 270,000 to 610,000 during his four-year term. 80,000 people donated to GetUp! in the 12 months up to July 2012. He is succeeded as director by Sam McLean.
Future Super
Sheikh is managing director of Future Super,[11] an ethical superfund, which he co-founded with Adam Verwey.

One of the most bizarre exchanges in the defamation case came when Mr Lehrmann’s barrister Matthew Richardson SC, asked about the legitimacy of the allegations, telling the court there were no witnesses and no cameras in the ministerial suite when Ms Higgins alleges Mr Lehrmann raped her.
‘There were just two people behind closed doors?’ he asked, using one of the more common figures of speech in the English language.
Mr Llewellyn, appearing confused, replied: ‘Closed doors? Is that plural?’
There was an audible gasp from the public gallery as it appeared Mr Llewellyn was not aware of the saying ‘behind closed doors’.

Sheikh was tied up with some green candidate in the ACT
She shares this story over lunch at Lucky Kwong in Sydney earlier this week, just hours before she flies to Dubai for the United Nations climate change conference COP28.
At the time of her discussion with Minchin, Rose was 28 and had been beating the climate drum in progressive circles for half her life.
She was the founder of the Australian Youth Climate Coalition, and one-half of an activist power couple with Simon Sheikh, who ran grassroots lobby GetUp! from 2008 to 2012.
Now 40, Rose devotes her time, as founder and chief executive of Environmental Leadership Australia, working with Liberal and National Party politicians on climate change. She is also co-founder and a board member of Farmers for Climate Action.
She is taking seven Coalition politicians to COP28, arranging introductions to climate-minded conservative politicians from other countries, and briefings from experts such as the chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Citiโs head of sustainability investing.
Joining Rose and her team are federal MP and shadow minister Paul Fletcher, Senator Maria Kovacic, NSW shadow ministers Matt Kean and Kellie Sloane, NSW upper house member Jacqui Munro, and Queensland shadow ministers Sam OโConnor and Steve Minnikin.
Rose says recent events in NSW have strengthened her conviction that working with Coalition politicians is where she can make a difference, admitting this would โsurprise 20-year-old Annaโ.
…
Her team includes former Liberal advisers who help her navigate the conservative political world, where she has โquiet conversationsโ to share facts and debunk misinformation.

Scene at the โWailing Wallโ when I was thereโฆa mighty shout, and a great group of laughing, singing men with one young fellow held aloft on a chair. The place burst into applause and laughter. I have no idea what the occasion was but the joy was overflowing.

I am not sure if this is due to the long reign of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who was educated in England and thoroughly modernised Oman, or to Omanโs long history as a trading nation. Apparently Iran is just weeks away from having enough fissile material for one.
The issue is one of “Will they get enough for one and use it, or will they get enough for 10 or so and blackmail the West with destruction of the cities of New York, Washington, Berlin, London and Paris?”

Wind starting to pick up here on the northern beaches, hope the power stays on….
Usman Khawaja appears to have been forced to back down from plans to wear shoes with human rights messaging on them during Thursdayโs Test match after the International Cricket Council intervened and warned him there could be serious consequences.
The Australian revealed on Tuesday that Khawaja was planning to wear the shoes with the words โFreedom is a human rightโ and โAll lives are equalโ written on them during the match in support of the Palestinian citizens.
Cricket Australia is understood to have received a call from the ICC warning of consequences which could have seen the player banned from participating in the match.
Khawaja received the backing of Sports Minister Anika Wells and his teammates, but captain Pat Cummins said he did not think he would wear the shoes.
โI actually think itโs one of our strongest points our team is that everyone has their own passionate views and individual thoughts, and I chatted to Usi briefly about it today,โ he said. โAnd yeah, I donโt think his intention is to make too big of a fuss.
โI spoke to him quickly. He said he wonโt be (wearing the shoes).โ
Cummins said the ICC had drawn attention to the rules but questioned whether there was anything offensive in the statement.
โโAll lives are equalโ โ I think thatโs not very divisive. No one can really have too many complaints about.
โI know the ICC rules are quite specific to writing.
โI think everyone on our team has their own individual thoughts. You want everyone to bring their own individual self to the team. And as I said, I think what was on the shoes, all lives are equal. I support that. So I think we should be able to where there are rules in place.โ
Cricket Australia said that it supported the right of players to โexpress personal opinions, but the ICC has rules in place which prohibit the display of personal messages which we expect the players to upholdโ.
ICC regulations give the match referee the power to stop Khawaja taking the field if he wears the shoes.
Earlier on Wednesday, Ms Wells had come out in support of Khawajaโs plans to make a stand in support of Palestinians in Gaza, calling him โa great Australianโ.
โAs federal Sport Minister I have always advocated for athletes having the right to a voice and to speak up on matters important to them,โ she said.
โUsman Khawaja is a great athlete and a great Australian. He should have every right to speak up on matters that are important to him.โ

Israel is very upbeat. Living cheek by jowl with homicidal halfwits would be sobering, but they counter it with a tremendous verve.
Scene at the โWailing Wallโ when I was thereโฆa mighty shout, and a great group of laughing, singing men with one young fellow held aloft on a chair. The place burst into applause and laughter. I have no idea what the occasion was but the joy was overflowing.
And maybe thatโs the hinge, where joy and sorrow meet and you have a choice. Live in hope or drown in victimhood.
I’m strongly of the view that Israel is the finest country in the world.
Nothing is perfect but my admiration for the nation and it’s people (and what they have, and continue to, endure) is simply inspiring and humbling.

But if their Good Book states it as a definite fact, then they all believe it.
I don’t know that it does. It may be a “pious belief” (or impious one, if you’re not a Muslim). The Quran regards the Torah & the Psalms as inspired by God but now replaced by the Quran as the “new and improved” revelation. Likewise the “Gospel of Jesus”, but not the canonical Christian Gospels, which they allege have been corrupted, an assertion for which there is no evidence, and we have more evidence for the content and reliability of transmission of the Gospels than we have for any other ancient documents. So “the people of the Book” are all recipients of revelation, and closer to the truth than pagans. I’ll have to look further into this.
There is a current Greenpeace Advertisement which states –
Urgent: Please help protect whales from Woodside’s dirty gas drilling.
In which case, where is Greenpeace’s Advertisement which states –
Urgent: Please help protect whales from Blackout Bowen’s dirty Windmill Towers being erected in the ocean off the east coast of Australia where the whales migrate each year.
Nowhere to be seen of course as Greenpeace is being hypocritical as usual.

Heartland/Rasmussen Poll: One-in-Five Mail-In Voters Admit to Committing at Least One Kind of Voter Fraud During 2020 Election
If this is true, Hiden could be in the morgue and he’d still win.
There’s no split in the poll between GOP and Demonrat fraudulent votes, but lets say for the sake of argument the fraud was split 50/50. Demons voted mail-in by a factor of 4:1. Therefore, with this assumption in mind, it means the demons cast fraudulent votes at the same 4:1 rate.
There were 65 million mail-in votes cast with that ratio.
It means there were 52 million demon votes cast of which 10.4 million were fraudulent.
There were 13 million GOP votes cast and assuming the same ratio, there were 2.6 million fraudulent votes cast.
Total net is around 8 million Demon fraudulent votes.

I had a close encounter of the snake kind this morning.
A few weeks ago I planted a low hedge on the eastern side of the front garden and I’d gone out to trim the tips off so the plants grow out & closer together. My hands were about 6″ from the ground and I was bent over when I heard a rustle and saw a brown flash right in front me. Thankfully, the snake was as startled by my presence as I was at his and we both headed in opposite directions! Yes, I know you’re suppose to remain still, but “flight” response took over. I don’t think I’ve moved that quickly in years! Normally I’d do a reccie in snake season and would have spotted him but I was carelessly enjoying the morning sun, just like him.
Laughing now, but not at the time!
Next task is to check and move it on if necessary.

The Duk adds Lizzie to his list of accusersโฆโฆ
Hereโs a challenge, tell me one time I said I was anti-israel or anti jews ?
Duk, Iโve been out Christmas lunching all day, hence a late response. Iโve kept my comments to you rational and mostly re military matters. I started though pulling you up on a statement you made about Jews not needing Israel as a homeland. I know that many Jews would see that as a slander on their religion, so I implied to you that you were unknowledgable and perhaps thus unwittingly slanderous. You seemed to have either no idea about or no regard for the Jewish religionโs most sacred elements. The homeland of Israel, as well as Jerusalem, is held as sacred to Jews as Mecca and the Al Aqsa Mosque are to Muslims.
I havenโt ever called you anti-Semitic, just not up to speed in your commentary on Jewishness and the religious significance of Israel within the diaspora. I think that should be clear from my general commentary yesterday. Iโve said you are rather too inclined to take a unitary view about the Muslim and Jewish worlds beyond the middle east, and even re the Arab world of the middle east, and Iโm certainly not the only one here saying that. Recall too that I have noted how middle eastern Israel itself is.
None of this is to say that I am all kumbaya about Muslim settlement in Europe.
Far from it. However what happens in the middle east doesnโt determine entirely what happens elsewhere. Much else comes into play.

There is a major controversy brewing in Canada over a proposal in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons that schools shift from emphasizing โmedical expertiseโ in favor of teaching โanti-racismโ and social justice values.
…
The report states that the new emphasis should center around โvalues such as anti-oppression, anti-racism, and social justice, rather than medical expertise.โ
By โde-centering medical expertise,โ the anti-racism experts suggest courses focusing on โanti-racism,โ โanti-oppression,โ โsocial justice and equity,โ โinclusive compassion,โ and โdecolonization.โ

What part of ‘I dont see how Israel can survive, long term’ is unclear to you?… IMHO there is no ‘positive future’, I dont just believe its too hard, absent a reformation of Islam, I think its impossible. Thats my assessment of the situation as a 25 year military officer with 3 deployments of the middle east – its not what I want to happen, its what I think will happen. Its not my job to reassure people by lying about my analysis.
and I can ignore your future comments on the subject.
Feel free to ‘lalala’ if you cant (Jack Nicolson style), ‘handle the truth’, but as the old adage goes – ‘you can ignore reality – you just cant ignore the consequences…’ wishing it were otherwise doesnt make it so – and lets be honest here…. most of the opposition to my analysis stems from wishing it was not so… rather than from a robust counter argument.

Not a scientific poll, to be sure, but probably reflects the prevailing worldview.
Majorly this.
A German victory would have seen at least Papua, and probably parts of northern Australia with few non-Aboriginal inhabitants, become German colonies, to add to German New Guinea.
Shit.
Hit the wrong button:
The young woman is the one who is theologically incorrect. According to the experts – muslim of course – everyone is born muslim. Just because the tenets of Islam hadn’t been revealed by Mohammed doesn’t mean that they weren’t muslim, it just means that they didn’t have the opportunity to know they were.
So there you have it – Ugh and Boogah Looga back in the prehistoric days were muslim.
There’s your problem, right there.
He looks and sounds like someone who has ad-glibbed his way through his entire life – home, school and work.
I was thinking over lunch.
In a forty year career I have seen some brain-dead stuff in all sorts of settings … contract negotiations, takeover due diligence, run of the mill management meetings and legal arbitrations.
I don’t think I have seen anyone simultaneously so inept and incompetent, but blissfully ploughing on completely oblivious to their own ignorance. In fact, exuding an air of superior invulnerability.
Only one possible example comes to mind.
Just how stupid & amoral are our politicians then?
Indubably. Bending over and welcoming owe new overlords seems to be trending, at least in the cataverse. Sure the west has become fruity and corrupt on the fringes. But I don’t see that a reason to go all doomsday on it.
Now who else used that phrase “Why would I?” recently, also demonstrating utter contempt, in his case for the electorate.
Digger
It reminds me of the Arab strategy.
Actually it is the Arab strategy – except for the ‘Israel’ bit.

Indeed, Rosie. I think the most hospitable Islamic ME country to foreigners is Oman. We found Omanis charming and helpful. I am not sure if this is due to the long reign of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who was educated in England and thoroughly modernised Oman, or to Omanโs long history as a trading nation. I have also read that their brand of Islam – the Ibadi sect – is far more amenable to non Muslims – so it may be that simple.
BTW We did not find the Moroccans (or Egyptians, or Turks ) as jolly as tourists who hire them as guides find. But that is true right across the ME world – it is just that tourists in groups donโt realise it.

OK, seeing as you asked: the problem here is *irreconcilable differences* between Judaism and Islam. To ‘win’ here, Israel would need to eliminate *every muslim* in Gaza, and every muslim elsewhere in the world, and every copy of the koran, and all other knowledge of islam, and every ‘useful idiot’ in the west, all without getting eliminated itself by Iranian nukes, or human waves across the border, and to retain a functioning economy, in the desert, after being ostracised by every country in the world .. off you go.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your good wishes and kindness. This is a tougher gig than I expected. I remember dear Splatacrobat (the one with the Terry Thomas gravatar) on SincCat, and his beautiful post about his Dad.
It has always stayed with me, and now I know the reason.
There are so many old Cats that I miss. But theyโre still around the traps. I spotted Tiny Dancer over at C.L.โs the other day. Now all we need is Pickles so we can live-blog Ben Hurโs chariot race.
Someone doesnโt know what the word โafterโ means.
Itโs a time modifier you can add to parts of a sentence which makes sense of the order in which you wish to convey how events occurred.
May the Almighty gather them to their fathers.
They all have names, and they will all be missed.
12 gauge from a distance of about 5 metres should do the trick.

Yes, one of our own which is a Maine Coon and a Bombay we “inherited” from no 2 son. The Bombay likes to hang out in the bush and has had run ins with snakes before and survived. He must have seen the scene unfold as that’s where he came running from to check if I was OK. Good on the little fella!
Now that made me laugh, Zulu. You sod.
That’s in the offing if it hangs about.
Juan, just curious. Did they use a jack hammer to get rid of at least 23 years plaque build-up as I can’t imagine regular hygiene dental equipment would be able to break through that sort of “dental morass”?
Sharpened posthole shovel, if a 12 gauge isn’t an option.
Don’t do it Sam. If I recall, the one LNP member of Qld Parliament who had a solid increase in his majority in the last state election.
Young bloke, nice fella, potentially corruptible. Needs a wise old head talking to him, not some vacuous nonsense-spouting greenie.

Ahem. Israel Folau? Yes I know she wasn’t in government then but I don’t recall her standing up for him.
I’ll give you mil, Roger.
Total net is around 8 million Demon fraudulent votes.
I don’t think there are any scenarios when Republicans win the White House or Senate in 2024. It is highly likely that if I live another 20 years I will not see another Republican President…
Republicans are the political equivalent to a bowl of blanc mange and they will simply watch and allow the Democrats to cheat and corruptly run the election to their advantage….
You have expanded on your thesis, but still have NOT come up with even the hint of a positive future strategy for the survival of the population of Israel in the future you envision. If it’s too hard, just say so and I can ignore your future comments on the subject.
Is it safe ?

Roger, the guests we have at our beachhouse saw a 2 metre red belly black 2 days ago. Sent a photo. It was fat as well. Lucky it was just passing through. First snake we’ve known about there.

As far as Asian cities go, there are safer ones than Melbourne. Cleaner too.
Caught out on the thread change.

They’re quite docile, grey.
The browns will strike if they think there’s no other option.
Swanston St was never much chop. Canโt imagine it has improved. The โParis Endโ it was not.

I think this was the “is it safe” being referred to.
Israel would need to eliminate *every muslim* in Gaza, and every muslim elsewhere in the world, and every copy of the koran, and all other knowledge of islam, and every โuseful idiotโ in the west
Thats a big ask… they betta get on with it then…
BoN @ 4:17pm
BoN, in this corruption caper she’s not holding the proverbial gun to their heads. If it’s that easy to influence them there’s no corrupting influence at all; this is there position.
And in the real world there were seven coal ships off the coast this morning!
Dear Calli,

Okay. LOL.
P, DB forwarded what seems to be an invalid email address?
It was actually a major shopping thoroughfare when I was growing up. Then, they turned it into a mall and it went to shit.
Lieutenant Colonel Tomer Grinberg, 35, Major Roei Meldasi, 23, Major Moshe Avram Bar-On, 23, Sergeant Achia Daskal, 19, Captain Liel Hayo, 22, Major Ben Shelly, 26, Major Rom Hecht, 20 and Sergeant Oriya Yaakov, 19 died on Tuesday.
Thats a pretty rank heavy cas list, sounds like a battalion HQ got hit.

Former President Trump Takes Questions From Crowd Members
Sally Crapp, the Melbourne mayor and the Liars are going what they possibly can to destroy the city. Over the lockdown, they reduced parking spaces by probably 30% and added empty looking bike lanes reducing streets to a single lane for cars. The parking signs are unintelligible, which means that if you’re lucky to take the only street parking space in the city, you will invariablby get a fine for not reading the signs correctly.
doing, not going.
Really? I just recall crappy cafes.
Only time Swanston St.was cool.
Calli,
All the best for tomorrow. One blessing is that your father is in a much better place now, free of pain.

Canadian Medical Schools Asked To Shift From “Medical Expertise” To Anti-Racism & Social Justice Training (13 Dec)
If you wonder why the medical response to Covid was such a total debacle, now you know why. Take two asprin and go to bed, you’ll probably have a better prognosis than being at the mercy of woke quacks.
So that’s what one of Knights ‘toons was about this morning.
Sometimes a bit esoteric for non-Melburnians.
That group of unfortunately killed soldiers is top heavy in terms of rank. A battalion command group ?
An initial investigation in the incident revealed that a Golani brigade force was operating in a densely constructed area of the town when they came under fire. Additional fighters came into the structures to evacuate the wounded when an explosive device was activated, causing further fatalities. The terrorists who were ultimately killed, the IDF believed, emerged from a tunnel shaft.
There is a zero in it, not the letter O. Just copy and paste what DB sent.
You have expanded on your thesis, but still have NOT come up with even the hint of a positive future strategy for the survival of the population of Israel in the future you envision. If itโs too hard, just say so
What part of ‘I dont see how Israel can survive, long term’ is unclear to you?… IMHO there is no ‘positive future’, I dont just believe its too hard, absent a reformation of Islam, I think its impossible. Thats my assessment of the situation as a 25 year military officer with 3 deployments of the middle east – its not what I want to happen, its what I think will happen. Its not my job to reassure people by lying about my analysis.
and I can ignore your future comments on the subject.
Feel free to ‘lalala’ if you cant (Jack Nicolson style), ‘handle the truth’, but as the old adage goes – ‘you can ignore reality – you just cant ignore the consequences…’ wishing it were otherwise doesnt make it so – and lets be honest here…. most of the opposition to my analysis stems from wishing it was not so… rather than from a robust counter argument.

having said that, there were 3 Majors under 26 and a 22y0 Captain,….sounds odd, unless casualty rates are extreme.
