Twitter tells me that the three hostages killed by the IDF were being used as human shields by Hamas and were trying to escape.
Hamas morons are trying to claim they were shot by Hamas using IDF guns because something something.
It’s tragic for everyone on the side of good.
The lady with the gazan hijabi in the house, I think there was a story about them a few weeks ago, the safe room wasn’t found because the husband pulled a cabinet in front of the door as he entered the room so it wasn’t found.
Maybe the hijabi thief who bothered to turn off the electricity to the safe room was content not to have her peace disturbed by having her pals burn the family out, or perhaps jihabis took over more than one house.

Ours is an adversarial system, in which it is for the parties, acting through their lawyers, to determine the ultimate issues for decision bt the judge, and what facts they will adduce. On many occasions neither lawyer wants some issue of fact explored. Lawyers expect the judge to respect their choices, except where some particular matter requires clarification.
Lee J went (in my view of course) much further. Having asked Wilkinson a couple of “gate closing” questions he popped the zinger “do you think you should have used more caution in dealing with Higgins through Shiraz”? (Or something like that.) If Wilkinson admitted that she should have, that would have weakened her public interest defence. But she was smart enough to say using Shiraz was not her decision and would have preferred that Shiraz be avoided. This answer undermines Ten’s public interest defence.
Both Chrysanthou and Hill were silent. I can’t speculate why.
Perhaps we will hear no more publicly about Lee J’s intervention.
My main beef is that Sharaz, who will not be a witness, and has no lawyer in court looking after his interests, has his reputation called into question. This happens frequently (in other cases), and the poor bugger has no redress.
Can you point to the ridicule in question?
Apart from quoting accurately the Toad’s own words?
How is a direct quote of someone’s own stupidity contempt.
Given the issues of contempt which Lee has already touched on (the Loggies) I doubt there will be any smacks issued by the bench on Monday.
…..
Good luck with that.
I think Lee would enjoy having Sharaz appear before a judicial tribunal.
It is likely to shake loose a lot of unfavourable stuff for Sharaz and Britnah.

From Zulu’s post above (Excellent. Thank you for posting):
This (above) deserves to be chiselled in stone.
Courage involves risk; personal risk. Hence the boom and emotional flush of ‘like’ activism, where one can ‘change the world’ (a world one is largely unaware of) from the comfort of home.
We used to publicly admire individuals who risked their own safety to perform feats of endurance or speed or yes, self-sacrifice. Now we (apparently – I’m not part of this world) worship well-resourced, protected by legislation or social acceptance, ‘rebels’ whose intent is to corrode all that they stand upon.
The older I become, the more I feel that Darth Vader in the Star Wars (original) trilogy had the right attitude: No mercy. Destroy the planet upon which they exist. Problem solved. Move on to the next planet.

The car has been garaged since new and while it has 110K on the clock it’s a great car.
The other aspect is what would I replace it with? Every car for the last decade is full of bing bongs and alarums and they drive me nuts.
Honestly I’d rather put a reconditioned motor in it and keep it on the road. All of that depends on cost and I’m not prepared to spend any more than $10k on it.

I’m a firm believer in pets get the run of the house esppecially dogs. There’s no point in having a dog for protection then denying them the ability to be anywhere they need to be, even though I don’t have a dog. I’ve a cat door for when Elsie wants to go outside, then she can. (It will be blocked for the first couple of days until she works out where the food comes from), and I have cat litter left over from Fatso and Buddy – fresh, not used, of course.
A couple of little tricks I’ve found over the years is for when they first arrive in the house, smear a bit of butter on their feet. A cat will immediately start licking it off, and that will start the grooming process which settles them down considerably. Do it in a tiled area with a door, and after a couple of hours, a feed and a nap, just leave the door open after they wake up and ignore them as they explore.
Leave the food bowl on a dirty/sweaty T shirt and they’ll quickly associate the dirty smelly human with food and accept you.
Also pretending to ignore them works like a charm. A cat is used to manipulating humans, sometimes by ignoring them. Pretending to be asleep on the couch is one way to get them to interact.
Of course cats are a little like chimpanzees – scientists built a cage to keep a chimp in but with only three ways to get out. The chimp figured out a fourth way.
Cats are similar and fun.
(YT irritates me. When you get a track that’s labeled “Remastered!!!” it sounds like they’ve been recorded underwater in a pond somewhere. A vinyl LP and a cheap turntable is so far beyond the quality of YouTube it ‘s amazing any of us can stand the 21st Century. Technology seems to be going backwards. /rant)

The ones with a separate big toe give me the heebie-jeebies.
Little Johnny came home from school to see the families pet rooster dead in the front yard. Rigor mortis had set in and it was flat on its back with its legs in the air. When his Dad came home Johnny said, “Dad our roosters dead and his legs are sticking in the air. Why are his legs sticking in the air?” His father thinking quickly said, “Son, that’s so God can reach down from the clouds and lift the rooster straight up to heaven.” “Gee Dad that’s great,” said little Johnny.
A few days later, when Dad came home from work, Johnny rushed out to meet him yelling, “Dad, Dad we almost lost Mom today!” “What do you mean?” said Dad. “Well Dad, I got home from school early today and went up to your bedroom and there was Mom flat on her back with her legs in the air screaming, “Jesus I’m coming, I’m coming!” If it hadn’t of been for Uncle George holding her down we’d have lost her for sure!”

So what # 1. Why should Lee desist from asking relevant questions because “it might weaken someone’s defence”? As you say, it is an adversarial system. By definition, if these awkward questions aren’t asked, it weakens Lehrmann’s case.
So what #2. See above. If exploring questions weakens someone’s defence, isn’t that a good thing? How can exposing facts to inform an adjudication be a bad thing?
I can. They know Lee is on the right track and they’d rather let it pass than extend the discussion.
Err, I beg to differ. I think it will get a run in his judgement addressing Ten’s facade of “duty of care to Britnah” but allowing someone who clearly had another agenda to filter communications.
So what #3. Scores of people are mentioned in legal proceedings they are not party to every day, and often in an uncomplimentary context.
Lee hasn’t just plucked Joe Bloggs off the street here. Sharaz features heavily in evidence already, both in his own words on discovered tapes and transcripts and in witness testimony, primarily from Britnah.
Some snippets:-
– “Scott Morrison? I still hate the c*nt!”
– Britnah observing in evidence that Sharaz held a long-standing grudge against the Liberals.
– Sharaz and Britnah telling Ten their objective was to ensure Lehrmann was rendered unemployable for life. (Incidentally, how would this be achieved if they were going to ensure he couldn’t be identified?).
This is material which is within evidence submitted and heard. Why shouldn’t Lee explore whether the pivotal person in this shit-show – Sharaz – may not have come to this with clean hands. In fact, I think he would be negligent not to explore this aspect.
In terms of “Justice for Dave” that is really quite simple to address.
Lee’s comments were made, I believe, around 2:45 pm Friday. It would be a simple matter for him to engage a lawyer to review the material and apply to be heard before Lee first thing Monday.
Copious amounts of time.
In fact precisely the amount of time Ten gave Lehrmann to respond to an accusation of rape.

With all due respeck, Nurse Betty, what did you expeck?
If the car has a market value of $4k and insurance companies allow you to insure it for $10k or $25k guess what happens?
Firstly, these cars start spontaneously combusting for no known reason. In fact, some poor souls might end up owning a string of cars which meet a sticky end (fully insured of course).
Secondly, in response to this, insurance companies would jack up premiums to account for this sudden outbreak of bad luck. Which you would no doubt complain about.
Why do you expect an insurer to pay 2.5 times, or even 6 times the contracted value?
Blogger ‘Kitten’ on Quora has just answered a question
Why is Israel so aggressive to Palestine?
England: Hey, I have a bunch of land I don’t want to bother with anymore. How about I give half back to Jews and half to Arabs?
Jews: Sure!
Arabs: No.
England: Okay, new plan. I gave over half to Arabs to make Jordan. Give rest back to Jews?
Jews: Sure.
Arabs: No.
England: Okay, new new plan. We split what is left, give land Jews already own to Jews for new country and worthless desert to Jews, and give rest, and good land, to Arabs to make own country. Cool?
Jews: Fine.
Arabs: Fcuk no!
England: Fine. I’m done. I wash hands.
Jews: Okay. We are now Israel! Mazel tov!
Arabs: Noooo! Attack attack attack!
Jews: Fcuk you. We don’t roll over and die this time. We win!
Arabs: Noooo! Give back land! 1947 borders!
Jews: Fcuk you. You lost war you start. Can’t demand 1947 partition plan now.
Arabs: Fcuk Jews. Kill all Jews. Drive back into sea! Attack!
Jews: Again? Do you not learn? Come at us same old way, we beat you same old way.
Arabs: Noo! Dirty Jews steal land! Give back!
Jews: Fcuk you. You lost war. Again. Go away.
Arabs: Please give back land? With cherry?
Jews: Promise not to attack anymore?
Arabs: Promise.
Jews: Okay fine. Have Sinai back. Okay?
Arabs: Attack!
Jews: Goddamnit.
Arabs: Noo! How do we lose? Inshallah!
Arabs: Israel is evil white European colonizer! Israel is illegal! Israel is Apartheid!
Jews: The fcuk?
Arabs: Israel is doing genocide to Palestinians!
Jews: Who are Palestinians? You mean Arabs?
Arabs: No! Palestinians who are native of Judea…I mean Palestine!
Jews: The fcuk? They were Jordanian, Syrian, Egyptian, yesterday.
Arabs: No no, always Palestinian! Give back country of Palestine! Attack!
Jews: Stop throwing rockets.
Arabs: No!
Jews: Fine. We shoot you.
Arabs: Genocide!
Jews: Ugh. Fine. We build Iron Dome.
Arabs: Not fair! Give us Iron Dome too! UN said so?
Jews: What? Why? Just stop throwing rockets.
Arabs: No!
Jews: Okay, fcuk this. You want own shit? Here. Have Gaza. We leave. Wait, why are you tearing up water pipes and shit?
Arabs: For rocket bodies.
Jews: Goddamnit.
Arabs: Waah! Israel won’t give us water!
Jews: Fcuk you. You are in charge of Gaza. You dug up pipes. Own problem now.
Arabs: Fcuk Jews! Attack!
Jews: Knock it off! Okay, fine, we blockade. Stop throwing rockets!
Arabs: No! Waah! Open air prison!
Jews: Just stop throwing rockets! Then all problems stop!
Arabs: No! Fcuk Jews! We throw more rockets! Resist occupation!
Jews: Jesus Christ. What occupation? We left!
Arabs: Apartheid! Genocide!
Jews: Whatever. Look, you are poor. Some of your people want to earn money in Israel. Promise not to make problems?
Arabs: Okay…
Jews: Cool.
Arabs: Attack! Murder! Rape! Hostages!
Jews: You motherfcukers! We kill you!
Arabs: Waah! Why Israel so aggressive? Waah!

@Winston, all we can do is grit our teeth, pay from our own pocket, and hedge it with shares in the profit making insurance company. It’s pointless tryint to shift their decision by telling them you’ll take your business elsewhere because they already showed they don’t want you. And other companies I wasted time with numerous online questions charge more for most likely the same polite shafting service.
N Lyon would be bowling for his 600th wicket if he:
1. had a silly mid off fielder more often
2. appealed his LBWs to third umpire – dudded so many times

This one’s for Civil War buffs.
John Reeve’s book “Soldier of Destiny” is a new look at Ulysses Simpson Grant. Makes the point that Grant always possessed the abilities of a commander, but was able to develop those abilities out West, without the pressures faced by more senior commanders in the East. He went from being ambivalent about slavery, to realizing that emancipation was the only way forward for the United States. (There’s much made about how, when Grant was farming in Missouri after he resigned from the U.S. Army over his drinking, he owned a slave, who he preferred to set free, rather then selling said slave, the proceeds of which would have paid most of his debts. Julia Grant, at the time owned four slaves..) Interesting reading – highly recommended.

The matter of a potential legal threat issued to controversial blogger Shane Dowling was also aired, amid revelations on Thursday morning that Senator Reynolds was considering defamation action against him.
Mr Bennett said Mr Dowling had published an article about Senator Reynolds on his website, Kangaroo Court of Australia, before contacting Mr Bennett earlier this week with a series of questions for the Senator.
“I wrote back to him and said, effectively, your article’s defamatory, you know it’s defamatory, if you’re going to publish your article, you do so at your own peril,” Mr Bennett said.
But he also indicated nothing would come of the threat.
“I can’t speak for Senator Reynolds,” he said, “but you can’t sue every fringe commentator,” noting Mr Dowling is in a “unique position” over his apparent willingness to go to jail.
Mr Dowling has been imprisoned a number of times for contempt of court, and was once described by NSW Supreme Court Justice Helen Wilson as a “zealot, and one who is legally uninformed and factually deluded.”

It does have a “good money after bad” feel.
I read Ben Zussman’s letter to family, encountering it in exactly the same way as Gemma. That his family released such an amazing statement of courage to the world is a wonderful testament to the values with which he has been raised.
It made me cry, for the life he will never have, and for the life he gave for the greater good. May he rest in peace. That letter ensures his memory will be a blessing.
Gemma has written a blinder. It’s a shame the useful idiots she excoriates will pay absolutely zero attention to her clear message.
skirts around the real change that is coming, vaguely alludes to it at the end of the interview and that is the replacement of white collar jobs by AGI. Robots that can replace blue collar jobs are also coming. It’s going to be a very different world

@ B of NC .. I so love this song … I kinda liked it better when he was younger ..as do we all ..but being young was something that has just stopped happening…
https://youtu.be/BGvwvxA83Cs
But that said there was nothing wrong with being young in the 80s… writers could write, actors could act … and we knew what was good for us … I recommend an Old School Histrorical Drama Narrative .. “By the sword Divided ” .. if only to remind yourselves what made us who we are …
As in able to navigate complex Narratives and get the best out come given our circumstances … as distinct from screaming at each other to our own mutual annihalation …

Lee J travelled beyond clarification. His cross-examination of Wilkinson opened up a new line of argument that her investigation was careless. Here, this waa damaging to Higgins, rather than to Lehrmann, but it undermined the quality of the Project episode that defamed Lehrmann.
https://www.instagram.com/girlsdefense/
It’s funny.
Wilkinson was evasive. The judge put her on the spot, so he’s a bit of a bastard, even though he also throughout the trial excused her for Chrysanthou, which he remarked that he’d been in a similar situation of a witness trying to volunteer unwanted evidence.
Reasonable people may conclude the problem is Lisa herself.
I find him unconvincing. He isn’t prepared to admit that Israel is acting well within its rights and he unrealistically diminishes the various threats that Israel faces; in fact, Israel has the military power which he extolls (but dislikes) entirely because they are aware of such threats and have sought to be ready for them. I don’t disagree with his view of a Greater Israel, which I too think may well eventuate, but he is unable to see that Palestinian ‘Provinces’ (as I envision them) within this Greater Israel would develop, rather than Israel becoming simply an ‘Apartheid State’; which is relying on tired old memes and tropes. A more positive vision is needed. A Greater Israel could become an economic powerhouse within the Middle East, thus a rising tide floating all boats. Israel has already shown that it can work democratically with and for the benefit of the Arab populations it inherited from 1948.

Update on the Old Man lost in the NSW health system.
Turns out he had a bit of heart attack in Deniliquin and got given some meds. As far as we can tell he then proceeded to drive himself to Wagga while having a series of micro stokes along the way.
The chopper then got him St Vinnies in Sydney where he’s at least stable. Enough to maybe get him back to Wagga tomorrow.
We caught up with brother and cousins last night in Darlinghurst and after a whole lot of reeling and coping, the work of working out what to do next. A few beers and pizza and all we could do was laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Daaahlinghurst is run by the queer mafia but what stood out most was the packs of big middle aged women in flouro taffeta. That was weird.
By chance, sticking with the Medea/ Jason theme, we are staying at a joint called Medusa. Centre of the wall in the lounge is a massive repro of Caravaggio’s decapitated gorgon done in a likeness of the proprietor and the entry foyer is baby pink with a deer antler chandelier. Wes Anderson eat yr heart out.
Of to visit the old bloke soon. We’ll see how he’s doing today
The West’s obsession with human rights is destroying it.
Karl Popper’s thesis that “unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance” is true. The West, in the name of human rights, is now not only tolerating but also encouraging and celebrating the intolerant, the obscene, the murderous, the dangerous, the sinister, the menacing and the threatening.
