In high school I had an English friend and an American friend* all of us recent arrivals from our own parts of the world. Just been watching a doco on SBS about Clive Davis, head of CBS Records when they signed huge acts like Janis Joplin, Santana, Chicago, Dionne Warwick, Miles Davis, Whitney Huston etc etc.
Clive (whose adopted name is not his family’s original) was a Jewish man who trained as a lawyer in New York, and through a series of happenstances, ended up in the record business. He had a great ear for talent and wound up running CBS records, then still tied up with Mitch Mitchell and his whistlers. After attending the Monterey festival, where his spine tingled, off he went.
What struck me was the names of the people he did business with. It was steeped in steins and bergs and the names of precious stones. They were mostly Jews.
The history of the C20th entertainment industry, and the development of its music and culture, would be a comparatively slim volume without American Jews. So sad that many of their descendants have betrayed them to be fashionable Leftists like their vacuous Hollywood pals.

A longstanding friend of the family – now gone to God – was an officer in the old Native Welfare Department. As a dual NZ Australian citizen who can talk Un Zud if I think about it, I would actually say there is a real, physical difference in the mouth and against the palette when speaking in either accent.

The simple truth is – nobody cares about fireworks.
People know there are such things as fireworks, and that there are people who set the fireworks off. People also know they can see fireworks on the picture wireless.
Further, people also know that there is little or no chance of fireworks going off in their immediate vicinity, and/or in your eye socket*. Therefore, the only thrill of going anywhere near fireworks is to see the pretty colours and hear the bangs.
Anyone silly enough to queue and then stake out viewing sites for such things, and then sit there for eight hours or more – for 15 minutes of colourbangs – deserves to be bitterly disappointed.
*The exception is July 1 – Cracker Night, aka Territory Day – in the NT. All bets are off.

It’s so dry and hot here that I had to construct a new dog yard for the up and coming champion because his yard is a bog hole.
The family just back from the fireworks at the bay, easy to get a car space and just walked down to the waterside park. It’s a family focussed event, so they set them off early for the littlies. Apparently they were spectacular.

I’ve been quietly appreciative of the free thought and verbal joisting here on the Cat, but due to a burst aneurism and brain bleed in July, still find it hard to put fingers to the keyboard and come out with the same thing that I’m thinking . I’m walking again, have just passed my driving test and ‘am back weeding the garden. Life is still good.
My impression was darkness which is the antithesis of fireworks but they managed it.

ABC and NITV seem to have merged this evening for NYE. Spouse wanted to watch 9pm fireworks before bedtime, it was as if the referendum had passed in the ABC’s alternative universe.
I was watching the latest Cormoran Strike series on Binge with headphones on, had to hit the off-switch on the tele because even having it there in the background was too much.
Spouse has retired with good grace, visiting offspring are home from the pub.

1) …a 61-year-old wheelchair-bound man allegedly being assaulted by a group who forced their way into his home at 2am
2) … a 48-year-old was hospitalised after he was … assaulted with a star picket in the early hours of the morning by a group of men who were checking the door lock of his home
3) … the assault of a 66-year-old man whose caravan was broken into by five males who then assaulted him with iron bars and robbed him
4) the violent invasion of a family’s home in Boag Court. four males … forced entry to … by smashing a window and … a male occupant of the house was struck across the shoulder with a broomstick … attempted to enter a room where the man’s wife and children were hiding, but they were able to push back and keep the door closed.
The group then ransacked the premises
The media and politicians have deliberately and systematically built this.
