Corrected headline now reads:
“Pearson breaks wind on voice referendum”
Looking forward to your reports on the election season which I’m sure will be far more informative than anything other journalists send back, even the Sky reporters are not up to it.
And let me assure you, it wasn’t just about future evil, my focus is on the present one. If the punishment deters anything hideous in the future, so be it.
Crikey, Top of the page! What a bonus for a headline!

An interesting and unusual definition of “success”. Currently Hamas are losing about 60:1 combat fatalities. Plus thousands more PoWs.
Forgot to add to the post with the ASIO details, if you send a letter via snail mail, they HAVE to read it and acknowledge having done so.
Try the first sentence before the part of my statement you quoted.
Sure, I did. You say, you read it on Twitter. Why are the Twitter accounts reliable?
I take it farming was too labour intensive, stealing other people’s food was the way to go.
Every day I see hamas putting up nonsense fake videos of them ‘destroying’ IDF tanks.
I also see videos of hamas being taken out by air strikes after IDF spot them and call in their locations.
It’s a great way to maximise the terrorist death count while minimising their own.
How much are the IDF over counting hamas deaths a 1000 2000 3000?
Hamas left 1000 dead in Israel on the 7th.
They don’t care.
I’m betting the surrenders are highly motivated by the appalling odds.
Hamas, not surprisingly aren’t putting up videos of where they are getting smashed.
The IDF have been blowing up a lot of tunnels.
No tunnel. No hide.

Short of an agreement in which those held in Israeli custody are freed, yes.
Even the NYT accepts the utter depravity of the hamas 7/10 atrocity:
NY Times bears witness to evidence of Palestinian sexual savagery on October 7: “A two-month investigation by The Times uncovered painful new details, establishing that the attacks against women were not isolated events but part of a broader pattern of gender-based violence on Oct. 7.”
We have dozens of prior posts (see links at bottom) with photos, videos, and witness attestation to Hamas’ butchery and savagery, particularly towards women who were not only raped but also sexually mutilated.
I would nuke Gaza and the West Bank; and summarily execute any pro-hamas protestor. It sounds harsh but in the long run the wisdom of this approach will become apparent.

They do. They’re still there. Isreali IDF are being killed, wounded and are fighting in a confusing environment. Rockets still fall on Tel Aviv. Ambiguous battle zones caused the death of those three hostages.
IDF filters out surrenders, separating Hamas from human shields netted in the same zone. I haven’t seen any reports about surrender numbers and what happens to those they used as shields. What’s a typical proportion of captured Hamas and human shields – we don’t know.

latest hamass propaganda, yeah we destroyed multiple idf vehicles and killed one IDF soldier.
Maybe they hired a decent Hollywood director this time to improve the scenes.
Even if the videos you’re watching are not manipulated, they don’t tell anything about what’s going on in the wider field of operation.
Really? All it needs to end this interminable conflict against the existence of Israel, where hostage taking is one tactic, is for Israel to release all captured Palestinians. Then click your fingers and the conflict is over.
Sorry, that’s not an answer.

George Soros has so much money he can drive changes in governments
I don’t like George Soros and I think his ‘Open Foundation’ is a malevolent force in US politics however people forget that he actually did some good in the 1980s when he used his dosh to finance and promote liberty groups in eastern Europe.
In the early 1990s, after the iron curtain fell, Victor Orban studied in the UK and USA thanks to Soros dosh.
Personally, I don’t want to see anybody “billionaire” or “millionaire” using their money to sway elections, be they named Soros, Holmes a Court or Palmer.

Soros was influenced by Karl Popper and his analysis of the difference between open and closed societies. But after the disintegration of the Soviets and Warsaw block Soros has become what he previously derided, he has become anti-freedom and pro-suppression of alternative opinion.
No, I said that so long as there are Palestinians in custody, tried or held indefinitely, they will use hostages if that is the only means of retrieving them.
Sometimes, the least palatable answers are the only realistic answers.
Each has their own strategies. Some via funding of NGOs to give the appearance of grass roots interests. Some via media platforms. Some via electoral support (eg teals or BuggerUp). Some via direct bribery, or indirect such as luxury yacht trips with porn broads on tap.
Then hurry up about it, Australian electorate.
The reality is we’re too far gone. Presumably no meeja or political imbecile has yet had the gall to publicly claim (again) of late that this country is “the most successful multicu*tural society on this planet”.
That all went down the figurative toilet as of October 9 on the Oprah House forecourt.
I don’t want to share a country, let alone a planet with the stinky toxic animals out there on that day.
Thanks, quislings!
The original question and your answer implied future potential, not the current situation. I think context slipped from one to the other. But leave it – I don’t like entering into “they said” “and you said” “but I said” autopsies.
Dunno – I’ll bet good money Noel Pearson thought he, along with Mick Dodson and Marcia Langton, thought they would be part of any “Voice” to Parliament.
Kabuki. Israel is feeding the US chooks about ceasefires and hostages.
If they can get a ceasefire with meaningful hostage releases they will do so though. The IDF could do with a rest and rotation. But be in no doubt that Gaza will be a razed plain of rubble by the time they’ve finished. The Israelis are pissed off, which is something you should never do.
Qatar deal could see release of up to 50 hostages, prolonged ceasefire in Gaza (JPost, 29 Dec)
Does that include stopping the war against innocent Israeli civilians?

Elsies been quiet and hasn’t eaten yet. She has drunk some water. I’ve checked on her several times since we got home – that’s the old nurse “Doing the rounds” you get so used to – I laughed out loud when I realised what I was doing.
Found her a couple of times hidden behind a couple of cartons of baked beans, and she consented to a scratch behind the ears. Just back from the last check and she’s changed position to behind the curtains. She suffered through a gentle ear and back scratch.
I’ve turned the aircon off – it was hot this afternoon, but now it’s cooling off.
She looks good – she doesn’t have that greasy look that cats get when they’re stressed.
If you’d rather I can just send emails for a couple of days.
People keep making this mistake. The Israelis are a people of the Old Testament. All that stuff about forgiveness, and turning the other cheek, doesn’t apply.
I really, really hate the political caste we’ve been cursed with in this country.
In any sane body politic in human history, the sacks of excrement in the first sentence above would not have risen above street beggars, given that’s exactly what they are.
Yet Hamas and Iran acknowledges when a primary key operative has been eliminated. eg October 7th was the response for assassination of Qasem Soleimani. If they can easily install replacements those eliminated must be much lower in importance and competance. Hamas has some very experienced, intelligent personnel. They wouldn’t be as easy to instantly replace. In any venture, particular key personnel are able to hold a range of strategies, implications, and communicate to others to execute their smaller part. Easily replaced persons are not these ones.
Been thinking about reading and readers. I have never undertaken any formal study of any sort of literature apart from the Leaving Certificate. I was quite sick in bed for a year in 1969 and did a lot of that sort of reading then during uni time. Also read quite a lot of the ‘greats’ when I worked in ads, long before I thought of going to uni. I’ve been ‘a reader’ all of my life, of all sorts of books. Ordinary people were often huge readers back in the day. It’s how Penguin got started. Some Cats and Kittehs will know this; others won’t. The reading public is now hostage to woke, most new writers are female, and boringly woke. Looking back at how we were, we’ve lost a lot of cultural literacy. It shows in what is published today.

As you were.
The Mongols were in the beginning raiders. Raiding is what a largely light cavalry is going to practice
Ah good we are continuing. Yes perhaps, There is a great beginning to ‘The Great Game” by Peter Hopkirk ” You could smell them coming, even before you heard the thunder of their hooves. But by then it was too late” describing the Mongols arriving. I don’t know much about the Mongol methods – or the Uighurs ( an oft forgotten reason the Chinese keep them at arms length). My history books only describe the Hordes, such as the destruction of the Nizari ( the Assassins) and Baghdad by sheer numbers, starving them out and burning the whole place.
But the Ay-rabs I do know.
The other interesting part of October 7 is that in Islam the Arab boy must know how to ride a horse and use a sword and spear. That is part of the Koran or the Hadith (I’ll have to look that up) . But they take this very very seriously (even in Australia, yes). Note how are Hamas had motorbikes and AK 47s. The Ay-rabs see this as the modern equivalent. It has to do with martyrdom.
To me if you want to defeat an enemy who wants you dead, you find out all about them.
Incinerate their balls, and their hearts and minds are irrelevant?
She’s understandably anxious, but not panicked, which is good. When anxious, cats like to find a safe place where they can ‘hide’, giving them an element of protection. Attapuss likes to hide himself behind the curtains in our bedroom whenever our doorbell rings. He looks hilarious, because you can see his white sox and tail, but he doesn’t know that. He feels safe there. Elsie will take at least a few days before she starts to explore further. That she allows an ear scratch at this early shows what a secure animal she is in general. Bodes well for the future.
Baked beans reminds me, we have some leftover from kids’ breakfasts at Christmas.
Must see if they are still usable. If not, toss them.
I might have missed the point, but didn’t someone comment that the relevant comments pre-dated 7 October? Might the reported current higher loss rate for leaders change the equation?
Lizzie I was in Harry Hartogs recently and all bar a few Australian authors were women, of whichonly a few I’d heard of. I’ve been reading Jane Harper, the luvvies probably hate her coz she’s not woke, tells a great story, you can taste rural Australia in the words and she’s made a motza.
Steppe by Piers Anthony is a fine SF book.
(I’m irritated by the blurb, the hero isn’t Turkish he’s Uighur. Which is how I knew about those people long before the Chinese ever got their genocidal boots on. The narrative is based on Temujin’s story. Doesn’t seem to be an ebook available, sadly, so I’ll have to dig out the PB and reread it.)
Why would Argentina ‘dollarize’ AND join BRICS+? Wouldn’t make sense.
ZK2A I must be Jewish, I don’t forgive or forget and never turn the other cheek.
I still have photos from my box brownie of groups of us at Zionist Habonim camps around Sydney in the late 1950s wearing black and white keffiyot, years before any Arab started calling themselves Palestinians. It was our symbolic expression of indigeity.
Palestinians are taught from birth that Jews have no valiid history in the Levant, that Jews are foreign European usurpers. They genuinely don’t know. Search on youtube for “Ask a Palestinian”. That could possibly be a starting point for Palestinians to understand the validity of Jewish claims.
This is a daydream.
We just had a lovely afternoon of normal Australia at our local bowling club (Bar Beach Swimmer knows it).

There may just have been a Radio show post about this concept at some point …
Roxburgh Park mum Zeanab Hameed said it was the ninth rally she had attended, and brought her children, Ali, Zahra and Sarah.”
Any word from Zeanab about the hostages?
Also, I’m offended by Zeanab’s choice of name for her daughter. Sarah is a Hebrew name. She’s appropriated a Hebrew name and she should change her daughter’s name. Sarah, Abraham’s wife, is the Jewish matriarch, buried in the city of Hebron. Zeanab should change her daughter’s name to Hagar, much more appropriate.
Nothing surprises me about Palestinian Nazi scum, they like to appropriate anything Jewish and related to Jews, they appropriate our land, they appropriate our history, and they appropriate our suffering.
I despise them.
Re the Mongols etc, this is a good read, The Heartland by Stuart Legg:
LOL – some serious partying going on in me neighborehood – might have to go and investigate, Cats! 🙂
Oops, the first sentence is The Heartland covers a period of time spanning over a thousand years, specifically covering the many migrations from the steppes, the taiga, from western China to the Persian plateau.
Actually, we Jews do forgive, but before forgiveness there must be justice. Forgiveness is meaningless without justice.
So many years since good ole’ canned baked beans on toast, and canned sp’getti on toast, and canned mushrooms on toast. My mother figured these easy prepared meals, getting home late from the family shop. Modern life in the ’50s.
LOL, what a sad pathetic crook.
Are these productions coordinating with IDF medivac units and Israeli hospitals?
Assuming they were contemperaneous notes, you would have to wonder why Reynolds didn’t produce them at the ‘Lying Cow’ stage of the circus. Presumably someone suggested that proving Brinny a liar would be worse that an apology.
I see the down ticker is having a merry old time.
David Drake, who died recently, also did a wonderful SF series based on all this stuff. Known as The General, since it pulled in the migrations with the history of Belisarius and the Byzantine Empire of that time. Very easy to reread.

Spent the last couple of days digging up 6-7m of water main where I found more pinholes sending a a nice mist of water everywhere. Sourced pipe & new connections and relative plumber hooked it up. Re pressurised the lines minor weeping from one of the connectors.
Lots of swearwords etc and disassembly of said connector. Connecter apparently fine, got to be the line. Back to Reece for a joiner and I watched as a piece of the leftover pipe was spliced into the line. Leaky pipe discarded. Re-pressurisation, no leaks.
Today backfill trench with copious amounts of water. Beers about to follow.

I just got told by an old Aunt that Prince Philip was rooting a sheila in a pub in Footscray. She was the publicans daughter. He was shacked up there for a bit. He went to the local shops a few times for the newspaper and cigarettes etc. He was trying to be nondescript, and very successful it would seem. They were onto him, some of the local women. In Britain support is rapidly waning, the young are sick of it, but I suspect most politicians there dare not utter a critical word about the royals. It is utterly ridiculous. Remaining allegiance is mostly from the right.

When the legendary New South Wales copper “Bumper” Farell, sprung an officer of the Royal Navy having a quiet “snakes hiss” in an alleyway off the Darlinghurst road, and booted him up the clacker? Supposed to have been the last time Prince Phillip piddled in a Kings Cross alleyway.
JC’s idiotic game like that of most narcissists, is a moronic gambit
yr meant to either love him or fear him
the thing is, nobody fears him because he’s essentially just a light-weight with a loud mouth
and possibly the only person that loves him is his mate the mexican cock-limpet
Obviously not painful for the new citizens, the aboriginals are not involved as they are already citizens.

A sheila who has (presumably and hopefully) never gifted Footescray with her presence …
I’m glad my family left Wales in, oh I don’t know, 1898?
Who took the C out of rap?
I doubt very much that Prince Phillip was rooting a sheila in Footscray in 1956.
I agree it sounds ludicrous. I interrogated the old tart. She is 93. Full truth. Footscray was not a shit hole back then. It was a well established town, It became a shit hole for a while., now it is funky/hip apparently, I haven’t willingly set foot in metropolitan Melbourne since 1999,

Let’s have some Cap’n Beefheart, Cats – best enjoyed as it is, in a plush kitchen in Vaucluse at 2:00am on a Sunday Morning! 🙂
Oh dear, Cassie
As much as I like his politics (and I do very much), I find the physical Milei rather appealing.
Unless, of course, he turns out to be 4′ tall at which point I will admire his intellect and drive and back away slowly….
I have all the time in the world for women who love and adore men shorter than themselves. They are saints. Alas, I am not one of them.
It is definitely waning, especially among the young. In a poll this year 25% wanted it abolished. Lowest since records began in 1983.
There are enough right wing sheep to keep it going for a while yet so I have no idea why you mentioned the republic.
Many Sheila’s are worse off having baulked at being taller than me with ridiculous high heels
I’m an abolitionist of the monarchy in the UK, but a stern supporter of it in Australia. There are several reasons for supporting the monarchy in Oz, for a start, the poms pay for it and the royal family hardly ever come here and normally live the other side of the planet. But the real reason is that they stop us giving the job of being a figurehead to one of our home-grown politicians.
LOL – the top of the Goulburn Street carpark, Pogs.
This young boy had a serious future as well. 😕

Trans self describes as a god oracle, reckons people drop doogans when he walks into a room and now refers to others as narcissistic?
Have you ever?
I wouldn’t put it past them to be doing it themselves.

The Goil has got it goin’ on, Cats – Miss Abigail Devoe 🙂
There are many countries that manage democracy without a monarchy. The royals are not of superior caliber to our politicians and if the current generation is any indication the genetic rot will do them in.?At this rate the monarchy might be better off as AI controlled mannequins. Either way I don’t care about the issue in Australia.

I’m unvaxxed and had Covid over ANZAC Day, 2022. Didn’t get sick, no increase in temp, had a runny nose and spontaneously coughed for a month or so – locked away for a week. The lock up was good because in enabled me to finish proof reading and finalising my book. No additional Covid concerns to this day…
Bleuchh!!!
I could be persuaded to have one of the Price ladies. Either would do, mother or daughter. But it would never happen.
The Yeezey – regardless of those regrettable outbursts, he needs to be back, Cats …

Constitutional monarchies have been the most stable political systems in the world. Australia is one of the oldest and most stable democracies. Before we change the system, we need to think very hard and long.
Only because they have been around the longest. Charlie, Andrew, and Harry are mediocre and the latter two are a huge stain on the institution. In Britain the monarchy is fading and if it is abolished there it is pointless here. Not even our decision so what’s your point? Dr. BG wants it abolished in Britain but preserved here? Computer says no. Hence my reference to mannequins. The monarchy probably has at least another 50 years in it.
Ah, the good ol’ seventies, when scantily clad bimbages shakin’ it to CCR on primetime braindead FTA commercial television was just completely normal.
A televisual feast, indeed.
Diogenes earlier.
Well, a lot threw up their hands at first because the funding was tied to actual 24/7 coverage for the whole month.
You spend the money on 5-6 nurses to get the coverage and one calls in sick on the 31st and no funding.
They relaxed it to something like 83% coverage which is a bit more achievable.
But now they want to jail voluntary aged care directors for deaths and injuries in aged care homes (with a reverse burden of proof).
John H, I suspect republics have been around longer than constitutional monarchies, and republics all seem to have an expiry date. Even though Charles appears to be a bit of a meathead, the position is more important than the individual.
Hey, Western Goils – This is just wonderful.
As is being a Trad Woife.
Perhaps you should try it some time. You know, before you eventually end up very dead in an existence pod with your not so pretty li’l face being feasted upon by your many, many cats.
Monarchies are older than writing. Democracy is a recent phenomenon. The comparison is which is more stable: democracy or monarchy. The problem is that monarchy has been around so long it is very easy to find examples of monarchies going stupid. The position becomes less important with each less capable individual.
It is a very honourable thing to adopt another man’s pussy (with consent of course) and Winston is to be commended for it.
Well done you, Winston.
(Because I love animals. Yes, even cats).
The oldest type of monarchy is absolute, yet it differs greatly from constitutional monarchies as monarch’s authority is restricted. It provides, in my opinion, a uniting leadership above politics and stability in general.
I wish I lived near the ocean. I need salt water on the skin.

Switzerland does a pretty good job of showing how democracies can work well over centuries. Pity we don’t follow their model more closely.

I like what they have done here. Creative and clever, a very interesting way of using immune responses to reduce toxic protein loading and inflammation in the brain.
It should translate well and does have promise. Optimism is warranted. Hopefully this will be rushed into clinical trials. It won’t cure Alz, nothing can, but if used early enough it can potentially very much slow progression. Diagnosis usually occurs after substantial tissue loss and that won’t be recovered because adult mammalian brains produce new cells at very low rates and mostly in specific places; although I have read studies suggesting new neurons can travel some distance.
Sky News This Morning:
“Trump said he would build the wall – it didn’t happen”.
The real story is that he did build the wall, but Biden cancelled the construction before it was finished, and then sold of the remaining materials!
This how the media rewrite history on a daily basis.
Milei was catapulted into place to drag Argentina away from BRICS and to help keep the USD important. It won’t help his country. Argentina is a succession of socialist and capitalist government failures, each doing the thing they do best in screwing up an economy. His efforts won’t succeed. People should temper their enthusiasm. Like they did to Schwarzenegger and Trump, the entrenched bureaucrats will stymie his efforts. Another non-exciting chapter in the history of this screwed up country. There is a paucity of books about how that country went downhill. I think this is because there were bad governments from both sides and the usual Marxists cannot blame just the conservatives.
We do people bother with any legacy meja let alone pay for it?
