Greens MP made ‘direct attack on Jewish people’
Labor MP Josh Burns has described Greens MP Jenny Leong’s use of an anti-Semitic trope as a “direct attack on Jewish people in Australia”.
Ms Leong was accused of using an anti-Semitic trope at a pro-Palestinian event last year, when she accused the “Jewish lobby” of “infiltrating into every single aspect of what is ethnic community groups”.
In a statement posted to X, Mr Burns said Ms Leong should unreservedly apologise.
“The NSW Greens MP Jenny Leong’s description of Jewish people as having ‘tentacles’ and some form of sinister motive is reminiscent of old and dark antisemitic tropes.
“By suggesting Jewish community organisations join other ethnic groups to influence and control them, Ms Leong has depicted Jewish people in a manner that has no place in a multicultural and diverse Australia,” the statement said.
Mr Burns went on to say Ms Leong had issued a “conditional and loaded statement” that sought to minimise her original remarks.
“She should unreservedly apologise, and the Australian Greens leadership should take responsibility and demonstrate that Jewish people in Australia are safe and respected by their party.”

Dover is very accomodating with comments on this site, although there’s a very small minority of posters who are exceedingly aggressive/nasty and appear to be looking for a stoush which for the life of me I don’t understand.

I provide very little private information about myself. My life is too mundane to be of interest to others.
Now I will be personal. What happens here is nothing compared to what is happening in my personal life. For a while now an ahole has been insulting me. I just let it pass but now it is payback time. He is on a hiding to nothing because he is 83 years old, has a pacemaker, lost several toes due to diabetes, and probably has Alzheimer’s related agitation hence the insults and my patience. I’ve told him he needs to go into residential care but that makes him more angry. Here’s the weird thing, the ahole can’t handle being insulted, goes completely ballistic, flooding my inbox with insults and threatening to have his son commit physical violence against me. I know his son, that won’t happen. I’ll be seeing the ahole next week. He’s made a huge mistake because when I turn I don’t turn back, I will attack him at every opportunity. I’m weird like that because typically I couldn’t be bothered hating a person but when I do I’m relentless. My main concern is that because his health is so frail and he has a pacemaker, and I can trigger him so easily, I need to be careful lest his heart gives out. Or do I?

One of the many benefits I’ve gained from finding this blog is the discussion of autism and mental illness, particularly Delta A and Lizzie B, writing of their knowledge and experience.
I have sympathy for Lizzie in her present troubles with her son; my family has a member with mental issues – basically a decent person, but narcissistic, manipulative and dead cunning.
He is my younger brother, he was very close to my older sister. They lived three hours apart, but there were constant visits and daily, and sometimes several times a day, phone calls. When my sister died, and he was left with just me, living a long way away, and limiting the phone calls to twice weekly (there was more, life was quite different for him), he seemed to take responsibility for himself. Over the years since he has established his own life with his own network of local support. It no doubt helps that he is now in his late sixties and has slowed down a bit.
Anyhow Lizzie, battle on and don’t let the b*stards get you down.

I am sitting in the cemetery in Bonifacio, it is on the tip of the peninsula?
Little houses in the Italian style, not surprising given it’s built on rock and the place was formerly ruled by the Pisans, then the Genoans.
The haute ville is much bigger than I realised, with the medieval town close to the harbour, for obvious reasons, between that and the cemetery are ancient fortifications and a couple of large buildings, one of which appears to have been a governor’s palace, derelict but now being repaired.
I peeked in a couple of doorways in the town, the stairways are steep ladders, one made of wood, in a building that is four stories high, perhaps there is easier access on the other side.
There is, as I mentioned vehicle access up, if you dont fancy the climb, because it’s very steep up the ramp but the views across the Tyrrhenian Sea and around the coast are amazing.
Many of the buildings date back the the 13th century.

As I mentioned in part of my response to Johanna’s snide remarks about inheritance, we have taken detailed legal advice concerning this son and the content of our Wills. We heard some horrific stories of wills being challenged due to ‘dependence’, to the detriment of other beneficiaries. Anything I do to assist this sad son is done on a temporary basis and with legal oversight. We are not heartless though to any of our family in need.
