Comments on the article over on the Oz, about how Albanese is the worst Prime Minister since Whitlam, are becoming interesting. The usual suspects are emerging to list Whitlam’s achievements, and how the country was robbed in 1975…
LOL. Apparently this Continent was robbed in 1788 with those rotten people who spoke English and had fire arms and technology. Bad people who can only give $40 Billion a year to the brown people who suffer so much now,
Welcome to Country. The Land of the Free Loader/Dollar.
The resentment about the wealth and justice being squandered on these privileged tribes has to be coming to a boil. But at what point will that happen? When the squander monkey asks for $80 Billion a year? $100 Billion a year?
However, the reality is the Chinese system is opaque and we don’t really know what is going on behind the scenes. Outsiders have been forecasting China’s economic ruin for some time.
I work in resources and my expert opinion stops there. However I read a lot about a sizable trading partner of this country.
My opinion we won’t know about the collapse till it happens. I am on very good terms with someone who used to work in senior Canberra circles in 1989. Apparently the speed of the collapse of the Soviet Union caught a lot off guard.
Happy to be corrected by Speedbox or other Cats in that field.
25 years ago people were talking about how colossal bad debts run up by thousands of zombie state-owned enterprises were supposed to torpedo the Chinese banking system and thus the Chinese economy. The coming collapse was supposed to be imminent. It hasn’t happened.

So this driver was clocked doing 171 in a 110 zone with a BAC of 0.107 and 5 passengers in a 5 seater car – four of them children, one a toddler on an adult’s lap in the back seat…and the guy was driving on a suspended licence.
That is so reckless and irresponsible, it is verging on impressive. If he had have been texting at the time he was caught, that would have put him over the top.
Probably the most pretentious, overrated ‘novel’ ever spawned from a diseased imagination. Utter trash!

Either China is extremely good at keeping an ever-increasing number of plates spinning on sticks, or they know something the naysayers don’t. And the more time passes, the more I think the latter is the correct view.
A rapidly ageing population, property prices in freefall despite government intervention, foreign investment down and Western expats leaving, an unemployment rate 2 pts+ above Western nations…
I’d suggest Mr. Xi’s plate spinning abilities are being tested.

Having, with exceedingly few exceptions, failed to notice that Soviet economic statistics were works of fiction better than War and Peace (and just as long), economic forecasters have been furiously forecasting imminent Chinese collapse so that, should it ever happen, they can say in unison “See, we told you”.

About the only Soviet watcher who got it correct was Paul Dibb, in a book in the early 1980s titled The Incomplete Superpower. He claimed, to the disdain of the bureaucracy, academia, politicians and the media, that Soviet economic performance was far worse than the statistics indicated.
He was right, but there seemed to be few apologies from his critics.
25 years ago people were talking about how colossal bad debts run up by thousands of zombie state-owned enterprises were supposed to torpedo the Chinese banking system and thus the Chinese economy. The coming collapse was supposed to be imminent. It hasn’t happened.
Yes, that’s true, OCO. I was skeptical of the country falling into the abyss then. You can check the back pages, as I didn’t think there was a problem for one good reason. The economy was growing at around 7% to 8% a year, but now economic growth has slowed down to perhaps zero , despite the official projections. Coming out of the COVID lockdowns, China was the only decent-sized economy that’d experienced deflation.
A lot of the bad debts have been handled, as the Economist describes. They’ve even had their sovereign wealth fund lay off some of the debt.
The other issue is that the provinces are very indebted, which, by some accounts, raises China’s debt levels to 250% of GDP. These provincial governments relied a great deal on land sales for their income, and that’s pretty much closed up.
This is why you see China desperately trying to increase exports. They’re trying to mitigate the loss of domestic demand by creating income through exports. The government doesn’t even care about return on capital. It’s focused on keeping the economy afloat.
The stock market doesn’t believe them, which is why it’s down. Ultimately, you have to pay the piper.
Look, if they try too hard to export, they will find as they are now, countries will raise barriers.

The other problem for China is that they have a controlled currency and all sorts of tight capital controls. It’s not allowed to float because if it was allowed the currency would fall much further. If the Chinese move toward devaluation everyone is going to be on their back and push for more barriers and threats of sanctions.
Semi fixed currencies are a serious problem when there’s domestic turbulence.
And by the way, I have my money where my mouth is. I’ve been long a put option for the past month and have 11 months to go. It’s a large position, however because it’s an option, I can’t lose more than the premium I paid. If Chinese goes down, the Aussie dollar will sink like the Baltimore bridge.

Dover .. It really would be best if a more general reply option could be posted down stream .. I know I have been referencing GAB as a good example… not for the politics … a different discussion
And Again I belive that GAB got attacked ( and still is ) But apparently the way Mastodon is structured it cant be messed with for technical reasons I dont understand ..
Again this format is much better … I Loved the BB style of the 90s .. and Netiquette …Proff Bunyip we miss You Brother .. .. but Hey
“The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.”
I know folks do post lengthy an informative travelogues here .. this will also be one … but slighty Different ..
Dover … a proper blog should ..be able to make the conversation , even if nested . accessible to the casual reader should they wish to join in .. but easy to skip by if they dont .. again Gab does it well ..here is what i mean ..
“Bad Idea to make one’s self a hostage to Fortune because it only leads one way … Helps the Soul to listen and try not to be right about everything … My Father was much more fortuante then me in so far as He was always steadfast in His ideals ..no further information required to bolster His perspective since the mid 90s …

Now the GAB format would have had that visible in the thread or easily ignored .. or It might inspire interaction .. Amazing the difference an indent makes !!

This West Papua series has been an absolute corker. If you were to put a price tag on all the fish they have caught over here, it would be monumental.
Healthy reefs and corals over there. Stunning actually.
I was thinking about reading Wuthering Heights. I have read and enjoyed War and Peace. Tolstoy was a master of characterization. Don Quixote is on my radar, but The Civil War I had not heard of and will look into shortly.
Don Quixote is the go .. utterly hilarious and brilliantly realized … Wuthering Heights is as boring as the Title suggests… Nah go with the bloke on the donkey … a great yarn !!!
Dover ..GAB gives you notifications … that way you can buy into a conversation … and stay there … Then Things can go wildly Off Topic because the posts and responses are tied together … If you want to reprise on the OP you can do that too .. a conversation might start off on the conflict in Eastern Europe … and then unfold into a lengthy and detailed conversation about the career of Richard Feynman … without derailing anything … and then you can switch back onto the OT…
I reiterate … I dont ever want to become a regular on the Cat … I went off with Proff Bunyip and it is all just nostalgia from here on … you guys do what amuses you …

Saves likes of KD compiling a Resume on me … and leaping back into the “fray” with “Bus Booka” crap except that it really gives him red eyes … … Dover this is Kiddie stuff . This sort of format worked well back in the 90s … but is no longer fit for purpose .. sadly ..

Bruce, sorry I missed your suggestion, and thank you. I have read Anabasis and it is one of my favourites. Excellent eye-witness military history that reads like an adventure novel. Top shelf material.
It’s all a load of BS. Easter time is driven by the cycle of the Moon which is why Easter is on different days every year. So how does that fit in with everything. And did they have chocolate eggs 2,000 or more years ago?

Biden wants civil war. He’s doing his utmost to incite a reason for martial law.
Correct. But it’s not biden, who is a walking corpse; it’s barry the muzzie poofta. They are going to provoke an incident and that will be that. In the meantime barry is going to give the iranians the bomb. So that could be an alternative excuse: irans got the bomb we have to declare martial law! Let’s be honest they don’t need an excuse. At this stage that there will even be a POTUS election is 50:50.

If she’s lucky it’s pancreatitis.
Nor does even that entirely capture the depths of his love. For Christ did not take on human flesh only to get rid of it as soon as he could; nor did he even restore that flesh to perfect integrity as soon as he could. He retains the flesh with its wounds perpetually. As Aquinas writes (quoting Bede), among the reasons for this are:
“that He may convince those redeemed in His blood, how mercifully they have been helped, as He exposes before them the traces of the same death” (Bede, on Luke 24:40). (Summa theologiae III.54.4)

Regarding the ship and the bridge FWIW.
I have a friend who is a retired ship’s Captain, also ship’s Pilot. ALL the tickets.
He tells me that ships like that have 4 standby electrical power generators and two must be running when entering and leaving port so electrical power does not get interrupted.
He also said that particularly with ships of that size the time between the critical event/decision and the damage is usually a couple of minutes at least, giving you time to consider what you are going to write in your accident report before it happens.
One theory doing the rounds is contaminated fuel, which would affected all the gens at around the same time.
Lots of conspiracy theories out there, it will be interesting to see which ones pan out. Given the “Swiss cheese” safety model, there a whole lot of holes that needed to align at just the right time for the ship to hit in just that spot

Tim Blair in fine form on Thursday:
But they lost that argument, and for Peter at least the issue of Aboriginal importance seems in 2024 to have dramatically faded.
Here he is defending Bruce Pascoe’s claims to Aboriginal lineage, which is now of so little significance that – as FitzSimons writes – the Dark Emu author may just as well be bragging about his dancing ability:
I’m happy to take him at his word – not that it is particularly relevant. Let’s say he also claimed to be a great dancer – and he wasn’t. Would it remotely affect what he wrote?
This is extraordinary.
Pascoe’s professed Aboriginality is central to his career as an author and academic, and also – if we are on Pascoe’s side – to his very being.
Sure, Pascoe has bugger-all evidence to support his genealogical beliefs, but he nevertheless insists on the authenticity of his Aboriginal identification. He’s been going on and on and on about it for decades.
And then along comes Fitzy to tell us Aboriginality is a trivial matter and his hero Bruce Pascoe is the mere equivalent of a disco poser.
What an odd relationship FitzSimons has with people of colour. He calls a black man a gorilla, gets into fights with principled Indigenous activists and his favourite Aboriginal is a white bloke.
Perhaps Peter should drop the whole subject.
A couple of links you might not be able to read as they are paywalled but you get the idea. Fitzsimian be not the sharpest tool.
The world has moved on from globalism and they’re now left preaching to the choir.

It was never your Easter
Easter is linked to Passover for the obvious reasons, except there’s been a bit of variation to fit the vagaries of the calendar. Passover itself falls on various different days, which doesn’t work well for our society.
2023 date Sunset, 5 April – nightfall, 13 April (8 days)
2024 date Sunset, 22 April – nightfall, 30 April (8 days)
2025 date Sunset, 12 April – nightfall, 20 April (8 days)
2026 date Sunset, 1 April – nightfall, 9 April (8 days)
2023 date April 9 (Western) April 16 (Eastern)
2024 date March 31 (Western) May 5 (Eastern)
2025 date April 20 (Western) April 20 (Eastern)
2026 date April 5 (Western) April 12 (Eastern)
As you can see they mostly line up, but not this year for some reason I haven’t bothered to look into.
Christian Easter/Jewish Passover pretty much dates to 3,400 years ago or thereabouts, when Moses did his thang with the Red Sea.

Atheists who despise Easter should toddle off and find something else to do, instead of insulting the rest of us.
And don’t worry the day will come when we all get to find out who had the truth and who didn’t.
I’ve got a short spell before family start arriving for lunch. First, Happy Easter everyone. As Rosie says, we will all find out eventually who is right, believers or atheists. I have heard it explained this way, if believers are wrong then nothing but if atheists are wrong then they are screwed.
A bit more re Passover and Easter, I’ve told before how archaeology fits rather well with the story of Exodus.
Amenhotep III‘s eldest son was a guy called Thutmose. He had some edifices built but then suddenly he disappears from the archaeological record.
Instead his younger brother Akhenaten inherited the throne at an early age. He was a kid. Then suddenly when he was old enough to make it stick politically he instituted seemingly out of nowhere a monotheism that looks a lot like worship of Yahweh – distorted by the memories of a kid who lived through the cataclysms of the exodus of the slave race. The memory made a mark.
Akhenaten held it together for the rest of his reign, but when his son Tutankhaten acceded to the throne the Egyptian deep state priestly class saw their chance and reinstituted the old system, and he became Tutankhamun, before dying as a teenager. The rest, as Howard Carter might say, is history.
If you read Exodus with Thutmose in mind it fits very well that he vanished beneath the Red Sea. The Egyptians needed a body to embalm and build a tomb or pyramid for. No body no pyramid.

Looking at The Civil War: A Narrative, and given the cost, I want to be reasonably certain that it is likely to suit my taste.
I am guessing you have probably read most if not all of the books I listed yesterday, and if so, would you please confirm whether this one is in a similar style?
What makes me hesitate is that I strongly dislike the modern approach to history, wherein events, people, and places take a back seat in favour of opinion and speculation.
Well, there is certainly opinion in the book, but Foote was a novelist not a professional historian, so he’s more interested in character and the arc of historical events rather than debating with academics.
Hugh – I’ve read them, very worthwhile indeed. Shelby Foote was a commentator on Ken Burns’ Civil War doco, and was very good value. He’s a tad romantic about the South, but the narrative is excellent.

The Greens get a turn at bat at Sky News today. Not going well.
Greens Home Affairs and Immigration Spokesperson Senator David Shoebridge says the introduction of divestiture legislation for Coles and Woolworths is a “great start” to tackle supermarket competition. …
“The obvious starting point is Coles and Woolies, who are literally screwing Australians for grocery prices and making billion-dollar profits while people can’t afford to buy broccoli.
Um, no, son. The people screwing Aussies are you Gaia-worshippers, who so increased electricity and refrigerant prices that the supermarkets have to pass on the costs. Anyway have you bothered to look at IGA prices? They’re much higher than Colesworths.
Greens Senator David Shoebridge claims the federal government’s controversial deportation bill will “punish diaspora communities” across Australia.
This week, Labor was seeking bipartisan support on new laws that would impose a maximum five-year jail sentence for non-Australian citizens who refuse to cooperate with authorities to have them deported.
The Greens never saw a criminal country shopper they didn’t like. The “diaspora communities” should all return home if they don’t want to be law abiding. Starting with the Ibrahim and Alameddine crime families.
This isn’t an individual, this is work of the regime, the GAE, the Deep State, or whatever name you wish to give it. The only way this will be destroyed or brought to heel is externally, by conditions or factors that make the current regime untenable. Trump alone cannot do this, but he or whoever follows, like Vance, may be better at steering the country in the right direction, given the right conditions. There is no way around this fact.
Agree with all of that, except anti-Semitism goes back a lot further than the nineteenth century. See, for example, Against Apion.

Also seem to remember something about us only getting 1 degree subsidised, post grad & another degree you were on your own. The only way I can see her racking up $76k is if fashion & sustainability was eligible for CSP, then miss problem belonga you…

FMD. The Greens are morons. The latest iteration:
A Greens MP has taken a swipe at one of Victoria’s most iconic tourist attractions in a bizarre and “divisive” attempt to promote live music venues.
Richmond MP Gabrielle de Vietri took to X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday to seemingly question the Victorian Government’s insurance of beloved railway train Puffing Billy.
“Just found out that the Vic gov insures the Puffing Billy. Not saying they shouldn’t necessarily … but they can’t cover a private coal-fired tourist train and let small live music venues go under – can they?,” she said in a post that linked to a Save Live Music in Victoria petition.
Commenters slammed the post and were quick to correct Ms De Vietri, pointing out that the Puffing Billy Railway Board is a statutory authority and not a private entity.
“Not a null-sum game. Why pit the two against each other?” one commenter said.
“It’s a nonsensical comparison and overly hostile,” another user said.
“You can say music is good without steam train bad.”
“This is a terrible take. Probably best to delete this and just post the live music stuff rather than trying to be divisive,” another man wrote.
“This tweet is a trainwreck,” wrote another.
“I always knew the answer to save live music was to kill Puffing Billy.”
While another wrote: “It’s like making a point by shooting Bambi”.
Five hours later, Ms de Vietri was forced to apologise for her bizarre comparison, admitting the post had been “clunky”.
“There’s a lot of love out there tonight for Puffing Billy! Just to clarify, my comparison was a clunky way to say that the state gov should insure our live music culture too. Wasn’t meant to be a dig at Billy,” she wrote.
No stranger to controversy, Ms de Vietri made headlines in February after being booted from parliament alongside three of her Greens colleagues for holding up signs that read: “Vic Labor Stop Arming Israel”.
She has also been criticised for wearing the traditional Palestinian keffiyeh to an event organised by Jewish groups and MPs calling for the immediate release of Israeli hostages being held by Hamas in Gaza.
In November last year Ms de Vietri was also banned from parliament for two days without pay after she posed for a selfie with student climate activists who disrupted Question Time.
And in September 2022, when a City of Yarra councillor, Ms de Vietri came under fire for slugging ratepayers almost $7000 for an in-house nanny during Melbourne’s Covid-19 lockdowns.

Vigilance as crime continues under Alice Springs curfew
Adrian BlackAAP
Sun, 31 March 2024 6:34AM
Several teenagers and a man in his twenties have been charged over violence in Alice Springs, as an emergency curfew continues in the besieged town.
Northern Territory Police have charged five youths aged from 16 to 22 with crimes including engage in violent conduct, criminal damage, aggravated assault and going armed in public.
A further three have been arrested and Crime Command and Strike Force Viper expect more arrests and charges in the coming days.
Chaos descended on the red centre town on Tuesday afternoon when a large group attacked the Todd Tavern, leaving a $30,000 damage bill, as tensions escalated between families following the death of a teenager.
Brawls continued later in the evening as family members mourned the death, with up to 150 people clashing in town camps.
Arrests were made and more than 50 weapons seized including spears, axes and clubs.
A curfew was declared in response, barring anyone under the age of 19 entering the Alice Springs CBD between 6pm and 6am.
Regional Controller, assistant commissioner Peter Kennon said police would continue to be highly visible both day and night across Alice Springs.
“We are continuing to undertake a common sense approach to the conditions of the emergency situation,” Mr Kennon said in a statement.
“Young people may be engaged and directed to leave the High Risk Area if they don’t have a valid reason for being there, such as attending a job.”
The temporary curfew was backed by the federal government, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Thursday calling it a “sensible move”.
“All Australians will be concerned by the scenes that we have seen,” Mr Albanese told reporters on Thursday.
However, NT Police Commissioner Michael Murphy said there was no need for extra federal assistance.
“Northern Territory police are more than capable of delivering public safety services to the community, and we will prove that,” he said on Thursday.
Rising tensions in the desert town were inflamed by the death of an 18-year-old in a fatal car accident in early March.
He died after hanging out of the window of a stolen car that rolled over in the Alice Springs CBD.
The youth was crushed and killed by the vehicle and left there by the driver and passengers.

Daily Telegraph:
The prime minister has thanked public holiday workers across Australia in his annual Easter message, attributing the event as a time for peace and reflection for people of religious faith.
In a video shared to his social media profiles on Sunday, Anthony Albanese said Easter was a reminder of the importance of forgiveness and kindness.
He paid tribute to citizens working through the long weekend and urged people to drive safely on the roads when visiting family and friends.
“Easter is a time of hope and renewal For Christians here and across the world, it’s a moment to reflect on the resurrection,” Mr Albanese said.
“Celebrations and services across the country remind us of the importance of forgiveness, grace and kindness to those in need.
“Qualities that are so much a part of the compassion and virtue of this, the greatest country on earth.”
On Friday the Opposition leader, Peter Dutton, also wished Australians a happy Easter, referencing Martin Luther King and urging people to remember the importance of the teachings of Christianity.
“At Easter, may we remember the importance of the Christian faith to so many Australians, especially its messages of hope, renewal and new life,” Mr Dutton said.
“This Easter, may we again reflect on how lucky we are to live in the greatest country in the world.”
Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong urged people to “drive safe and take care of eachother” while issuing her own Easter message on Sunday.
Clare O’Neil, the Home Affairs Minister, echoed a similar tone and thanked those working through the public holidays.
This year’s multi-faith Easter holiday come days after religious groups wrote to the prime minister urging him to support their position on religious discrimination laws.
Mr Albanese warned last week that he would not move forward with greater protections for LGBT staff and students at faith-based schools and protections for religious groups if it was not supported by the opposition.

Tell me something,
I don’t understand …
Paul Dibb predicted it.
Still publishing occasionally and worth reading too.
Boambee John March 30, 2024 8:39 pm
If you have ever believed those Soviet statistics and shite. Get This. The ‘Horse Tralian’ CPI is the same BS.
Snap, BJ.

Again this format is much better … I Loved the BB style of the 90s .. and Netiquette …Proff Bunyip we miss You Brother .. .. but Hey

I am so glad I enjoyed it when I could …

I know folks do post lengthy an informative travelogues here .. this will also be one … but slighty Different ..
Dover … a proper blog should ..be able to make the conversation , even if nested . accessible to the casual reader should they wish to join in .. but easy to skip by if they dont .. again Gab does it well ..here is what i mean ..

I reiterate … I dont ever want to become a regular on the Cat … I went off with Proff Bunyip and it is all just nostalgia from here on … you guys do what amuses you …
Dover GAB ..as I say not just GAB but the Mastodon engine has ~block~ function … so no one pisses and moans about “strap ons ” ..OK if you find my posts annoying then just block me … easy … two mouse clicks … I ~block~ all Flat Earthers on GAB no fusss. Saves likes of KD compiling a Resume on me … and leaping back into the “fray” with “Bus Booka” crap except that it really gives him red eyes … … Dover this is Kiddie stuff . This sort of format worked well back in the 90s … but is no longer fit for purpose .. sadly ..

For one not wanting to be a regular visitor here, you seem to fail at it.
He is only trying compile your claims of employment and experiences, by which you had a new job every few weeks, or you are 120 years old.
Which is it?
BTW I agree about the new format, some features are not the best, I miss out on a lot of replies, just can’t be bothered constantly clicking and scrolling back.
And those who replied are missing out too, like publishing a book nobody buys.
Also taking you back to a previous comment you have read after refresh is a PIA.
There are other annoying small things, but the blog is still here, that’s the main, important thing.
Take just one event of Geopolitical importance … the boat prang … every opinion aired on the Cat was just utterly loopy and ill informed or not informed at all except for the gems of wisdom Cats pulled out with their navel fluff. But you all jumped in and were instant experts .. but made sure you put in a jab of Venom to … well who knows what ? well it was a reach … Anti Semites ? … It was quite the experince to read all that crap .. So what even ifs the point of you all? Beneath this Rough Exterior you have hidden knowledge .. well not quite … This “rough Exterior” is just pure bitchiness. and your humor is worse … and as to the hidden gems of arcane knowledge because you are all so “tapped in” well no .. you dont have a grip … these days that is all just bullshit too .. You Cats are becoming like the ABC ..only reason to look in is for a giggle and to draw the opposite conclusion to the one that forms a consensus on this disgusting self congratulatory lazy and clueless dysfunctional Wembly Down Bowls Club …

Here’s the other weird thing about the new nested threads Cat version….
You don’t KNOW when someone has made a comment in one of the threads.
Say there are four topics beings discussed which you’re interested in.
You have to go back and find the original comment for each and see if someone has said anything.

Atheists who despise Easter should toddle off and find something else to do, instead of insulting the rest of us.
And don’t worry the day will come when we all get to find out who had the truth and who didn’t.
Easter is linked to Passover for the obvious reasons, except there’s been a bit of variation to fit the vagaries of the calendar. Passover itself falls on various different days, which doesn’t work well for our society.
Passover wiki
2023 date Sunset, 5 April – nightfall, 13 April (8 days)
2024 date Sunset, 22 April – nightfall, 30 April (8 days)
2025 date Sunset, 12 April – nightfall, 20 April (8 days)
2026 date Sunset, 1 April – nightfall, 9 April (8 days)
Easter wiki
2023 date April 9 (Western) April 16 (Eastern)
2024 date March 31 (Western) May 5 (Eastern)
2025 date April 20 (Western) April 20 (Eastern)
2026 date April 5 (Western) April 12 (Eastern)
As you can see they mostly line up, but not this year for some reason I haven’t bothered to look into.
Christian Easter/Jewish Passover pretty much dates to 3,400 years ago or thereabouts, when Moses did his thang with the Red Sea.
Bourne, I read Roger’s comment, was going to say exactly the same as you but saw yours first.
Atheists aren’t the problem.
Nominal Christians are.
Then see my response.
I suspect atheists are a problem for themselves.
But yes I’m all in for committed Christians.
Father had the reminder this morning for those Easter Christmas Catholics not to present themselves for Holy Communion.
Was talking to a Greek Orthodox friend yesterday, Easter is in May for them this year.
Happy Easter all.
Just home from Church, no preachy sermons on anything non religious. Just a good old catholic sermon on the resurrection.
Now to the Easter roast and tonnes of sweat that will be expended round the BBQ…

P.S. Rotten – you are not a rebel, you are not an anti-hero, you are not – despite your obvious opinion – a paragon of biting wit and/or substance.
You are merely yet another elderly, whiny, loud Pom – one of a cast of thousands infesting this wide brown land, and all doing their best to turn it into Blighty.
Sooner or later you’ll have to accept that like all Poms, deep down you wish you were French. Or Dutch.
So Wodney thinks Christian traditions are cultural appropriation.
Or summink.
What a woke flog.
And fraudster.
Judas was a part-time bovver boy, by the way.
I’ve got a short spell before family start arriving for lunch. First, Happy Easter everyone. As Rosie says, we will all find out eventually who is right, believers or atheists. I have heard it explained this way, if believers are wrong then nothing but if atheists are wrong then they are screwed.
LOL Crossie – my dear old Mum’s exact reason for going back to church in the last years of her life!
See Pascal’s wager.
Christ is Risen. Alleluia.
He is risen!
(Unlike my hot cross buns).
Same at my parish at the early Mass, uplifting sermon to a packed church full of young people too.
The old perv does seem to be trying to provoke some sort of uprising. A normal person would be ashamed of himself for his despicable actions but the old perv is not a normal person.
Eugene McCarthy was spot on.
Pascal’s wager.
I don’t find it to be a compelling argument because faith is not a human choice.
oops Jo McCarthy I mean
Yep. Rotten’s doing his absolute best.
Roger
Looking at The Civil War: A Narrative, and given the cost, I want to be reasonably certain that it is likely to suit my taste.
I am guessing you have probably read most if not all of the books I listed yesterday, and if so, would you please confirm whether this one is in a similar style?
Hugh, I would describe The Civil War as epic historical narrative.
Perhaps you could track down a copy in a public library and dip into it before deciding if you want to purchase?
That sounds like a very good idea, thank you.
I bought the Kindle version, they’re $19 Aussie each volume.
Thanks Bruce. I will see if I can find a copy in the library or perhaps start with a cheap secondhand copy of the first volume. It does sound good.

The Greens get a turn at bat at Sky News today. Not going well.
Coles and Woolworths ‘screwing’ Australians with grocery prices (Sky News, 31 Mar)
Um, no, son. The people screwing Aussies are you Gaia-worshippers, who so increased electricity and refrigerant prices that the supermarkets have to pass on the costs. Anyway have you bothered to look at IGA prices? They’re much higher than Colesworths.
David Shoebridge claims Labor’s ‘incredibly undercooked’ deportation bill will ‘punish diaspora communities’ (Sky News, 31 Mar)
Atheists who despise Easter should toddle off and find something else to do, instead of insulting the rest of us.
Happy to do that and look back at the brainwashed. Hitler and Stalin and Mao did the same thing. BUT no one was watching/listening at the time.
And what did that Big Farking Communist say once –
https://www.enotes.com/topics/karl-marx/questions/religion-opium-masses-karlmarx-explain-247654
Keep up on the Opium you Dope.
Marx was a privileged, shiftless pseudo-intellectual who knew nothing.
The sum of his intellectual efforts is a pile of excrement.
He was an early anti-Semite, his political theories, economic theories and social theories were all garbage.
Religious people have less mental illness, are happier and tend to be more successful.
Agree with all of that, except anti-Semitism goes back a lot further than the nineteenth century. See, for example, Against Apion.
Can’t disagree with any of that Dover. IT says a lot about the old grub though that he’s more than happy to be the figurehead for this assault on the US and the west in general.

I forgive you this blasphemy.
The comments are almost…faulty.
Sorry, what is GAE?
“The obvious starting point is Coles and Woolies, who are literally screwing Australians for grocery prices and making billion-dollar profits while people can’t afford to buy broccoli.
Wasn’t it the Greens who forced ColesWorths to give up free plastic bags so we ended up paying for plastic bags ……
Just got back from Sydney – Easter Day breakfast of black coffee, hot cross buns and chocolate.
The family did the Easter egg hunt yesterday. And I can assure you that the Jewish contingent hunted with great cunning and profit – many…many eggs which they then shared with the less observant and agile (and younger) ones! Much shouting and laughing and, of course, eating.
As for the lining up of Passover and Easter, this year it’s the equivalent of a “leap year” on the calendar. Back to normal next year.
Sorry I missed Rosie’s travelogues on Sicily. I really did turn off all technology (except for Netflix and some Gutenberg downloads on my iPad). Nearly killed me. Rosie, if you still have them handy, just put them in the “reply” box here. I’d be most interested to read them.
Looking at The Civil War: A Narrative, and given the cost, I want to be reasonably certain that it is likely to suit my taste.
If your looking for a 1 volume intro/coverage of the American Civil War this is an excellent starter ..
THE CIVIL WAR by William C Davis ..1996 .. 512p ..
It’s a condensed HB version (without the, lavish, colour plates, B/W pix ect ) of his (Davis) CW trilogy but all of the text ..Fighting Men of the Civil War, Commanders of the Civil War & Battlefields of the Civil War …..

Re today’s painting, I love the fact that of the three holy women at the tomb, only one is permitted to stand, Our Lady, like the angel in the background.
Also, I really like this Bouguereau’s work. I meant to bookend his painting of mother and child which I used at Christmas with his pietà on Good Friday.
Had enough of these poor me stories when it comes to HECS. Beck in the 1990’s I paid off my HECS debt and calculating for inflation & due to a double major I spent an extra year getting qualified, HECS is about the same as what I paid in real terms for the day.

Lets have a look at her degrees. Communication Design at Monash and Fashion & sustainability at Collarts (I had to google that, College of the Arts in Collingwood that looks about as credible as a Diploma of Football school that used to be on Whitehorse rd Box Hill)). She claims to racked up $76k in HECS debt. Both courses top out at $16k a piece with CSP. Something doesn’t compute here other than, 2 useless degrees…
Also seem to remember something about us only getting 1 degree subsidised, post grad & another degree you were on your own. The only way I can see her racking up $76k is if fashion & sustainability was eligible for CSP, then miss problem belonga you…
They learn three words in three years: “fries with that?”
I can see why she’s having trouble paying off $76k. Maybe she should do something useful next, like hairdressing.
A common thread that often runs thru “sob” stories on the Mail Online ..
facts that don’t add up … LOL
This one is, probably, a better example of this morning’s selection … especially the Alysa Sheppard “sook” …….

I’m watching my favourite annual sporting event – Stawell.
As always, an excepionally well managed showcase of the invisible sport. Admirable young people and supporting families.
State Government and Deakin involvement leave a sour taste, but it is not as intrusive as in cycling.
The event’s greatest achievement in its 142 year history was successfully defeating Andrew’s attempt to turn it into a Labor polifest.

Yep. At the blog owner’s discretion of course – not yours.
And he is rightly panned for his bullshit. Expect the same.
You are a sad elderly Pom, 85% full of shit who boasts about non-existent achievements from a one-bedder in Sydney’s arse-end suburbs.
You grift for a convicted felon who stole over $700 million from average punters, wouldn’t tell where the rest of the cash was and then did 11 years in a US Federal prison.
You disrespect people of faith and call them drug addicts.
You are only one step away from screeching on street corners in between lining up at the soup kitchen while resting on laurels you didn’t earn.
These comments sound rather…faulty.

“Falling birth rates. 70% of developed countries have birth rates below replacement level”.
Easter is just the English word for the Pascal season, and most countries in Europe use cognates of the word Pesach(?) – the Passover.
It is not a pagan or rural festival, and is very much religious.
