Very, very, good interview, except while Neil and John go on about the big picture, how did a NH jobsworth get to give a 101 year old veteran a bit of paper – without ANY discussion – to put on his bedside table that stated “Do Not Resuscitate.”?
Start unravelling the knot from this end and you just may get some answers – answers you won’t get talking to the Managerial Caste who can only lie, obfuscate and deny?

WWII vet, 100, marries near Normandy’s D-Day beaches

Sadly not all are such happy stories.

102-Year-Old WWII Veteran Who Saw Flag Raised at Iwo Jima Dies on Way to D-Day Event in France (6 Jun)

A 102-year-old U.S. Navy veteran has died while reportedly on his way to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day in France.

Robert “Al” Persichitti, of Fairport, New York — who served as a radio man aboard the USS Eldorado and witnessed the U.S. flag being raised on Iwo Jima in 1945 — died on the morning of Friday, May 31, per New York TV station WHEC, the BBC, The New York Times and other outlets.

It’s a real shame that he didn’t make it to the commemoration.

It is a fascinating electoral strategy. He could end up with sub-30% of seats on a 50% 2PP at the next election.

Actually, the strategy is fascinating.

From the outside, it looks like the Coalition is finessing the initial ‘we will deliver Rolls Royce SMR’s located next to the switchyards of disused coal-fired power stations’ for a promise to properly consider nuclear generation for Australia.

I hope so anyway, because the nuclear technical scare campaign by ‘Trusted Experts’ against the loose ends of a poorly considered specific proposal will smother the issue.

Suddenly, in addition to the ALP, the Union movement and the Greens, the Coalition would be campaigning against CSIRO, the ABC, every State Government, academics dredged from every university – with external direct and indirect contributions from the IAEA, national nuclear regulators everywhere, and non-RR SMR proponents.

Paddling around in my own real life shallow puddle, I can see the ammunition being stacked up.

High stakes.

Dr Faustus, I attended a forum on Energy alternatives last weekend in Sydney. They had an impressive panel of nuclear scientists who were ready and able to explain the advantages of nuclear energy, the ease of substitution of reactors in previous coal fired infrastructure, and clear up any of the usual objections re safety and storage.

Lets admit it, those old coal power stations are going to take hundreds of millions of dollars to restore into land that can grow carrots or children. Why NOT use the facilities already there to grow volts and electrons.

DrF, Dutton could equaly respond with ALP GREENSCUM don’t want you to have reliable power at an affordable cost. Don’t vary from the message coz this where they try to wedge you. Don’t discuss, just tell the same story each and every time. Finishing with “is that too hard”. It makes the voters think the Liars and Greenscum aren’t up to it, which of course they’re not.

What Baldilocks Dutton needs to do with this nuclear bullshit is:

1 Get Bill Gates out. Gates is going gangbusters with the new nuclear, molten salts, reactors and has turned turf already on a projected 6 year, 4 billion buck build:

2 Get Will Shackell, the young nuclear advocate who demolished blackout on the abc, to be part of his campaign.

GR: Hopefully this is going to be a front and centre issue – and part of a ‘You Can’t Afford (to live) Under Labor’ message.

The risk for Dutton et al, is that having to deal with the outpouring of scary, sciency nuclear tech details – trotted out by Experts – will derail and overwhelm the bigger debate. Particularly when the political responders are on loose ground and are not technically expert.

The safer way to go to exploit Australia’s widespread but still vague interest in nuclear power, would be to point to the catastrophic failure that is Bowen, pull the wings off the partisan and truly crap AEMO/CSIRO GenCost Report and call on an urgent, technically-informed debate on the contribution that nuclear energy can make – a Switkowski 2.0, with present day credible personnel.

Yeah, Bowen’s expert study he’s been using to say nuclear power is too expensive is by CSIRO, who are recipients of vast amounts of climate dosh for all the usual renewables rubbish.

I suspect if he got a similar report from their rivals ANSTO, or indeed from anyone independent, the numbers might be a tad different.

m0nster is thinking like someone who fights Torries.
“Dutton is on a hiding to nuffink over da climate, because Teals”.
What Luigi and m0nster don’t see is that, for every Tesla Teal there are ten outer suburban battlers, driving their Camry home with the fuel light on every payday, only to be greeted by an $800 electricity bill when they get there.
We saw another example of Luigi’s myopic and simplistic view of the electorate coming apart this week. He has been happily giving a wink and a nod to the Pali ferals to shore up a few seats in Western Sydney. Suddenly, the polling tells him that isn’t playing well in Teal electorates with a strong Jewish contingent, nor among other racial groups in outer suburban electorates.
Cue a session of Bandt bashing over Pali protests.

Thunderbirds are go.

New fossils show what Australia’s giant prehistoric ‘thunder birds’ looked like (Phy.org, 8 Jun)

Until about 45,000 years ago, Australia was home to a giant flightless bird called Genyornis newtoni, which was 2 meters tall and weighed up to 230 kilograms.

Paleontologists first discovered these so-called “thunder birds” in the late 1800s. Yet exactly what Genyornis looked like has remained a mystery, because until now no well-preserved fossil of a Genyornis head has been found. …

While not the whole story, the drying of the Australian continent likely contributed to the eventual extinction of Genyornis—and the demise of the dromornithid dynasty.

I am amused that nowhere in the article are the words “human” or “aborigine”. I wonder what they used for the 11 different herbs and spices?

This policy change will win back a good number of the disaffected LNP base. The choice being clearer for many :the Hamas moslem loving inept and destructive deviant left of Albo or Dutton who want’s Australia to enjoy much cheaper energy and governance from normal sane reps.

The disaffected Liberal base have voted in Teals, who are merely Liberal wets, and will not return as long as Dutton is running the show.

There are several problems with the Trumpification of the LNP.

First: the political system here does not have nearly as many natural gerrymanders favouring rural white voters, and the primacy of the neutral AEC prevents partisan gerrymanders. Ruling from a structural minority 2PP position is close to impossible.

Second, Trumpism was predicated on a clean out of office bearers to install true believers, not just purging squishy centrists but also removing old guard neoliberals. The Libs are trying to run the same playbook with legacy Chamber of Commerce types.

Third, the electorate has already been moving away from the two-party system, so leaning into that by abandoning what base you had left and chasing another one is very risky, as you could end up with no viable electoral identity at all. There are already a lot of Not-Labor parties to choose from, why would the satellite suburbanites choose your radioactive rubbish?

Fourth, Trump got away once with lying about his actual policy platform being traditional Reaganite trickle-down nonsense, but everyone with a brain sees through that now, and Australian voters can generally see through Dutton and his lack of any actual economic policies to help the voters who are supposed to be his new base. No, nukes don’t count. What else ya got?

In the real world m0ron, the all important swing voters vote against the parties they currently loath. For reasons mainly to do with their outlook for their wealth, future wealth and that of their family. Currently, the loathing for the ALP is growing- fast. Labor being hostage to the green/left / moslem coalition is pissing people off big time. It’s causing the COL crisis and much social upheaval in their views. Growing numbers are really worried about their future under the Liars. And they don’t like it one single bit. That’s enough to swing polls towards the LNP substantially.

Your long panicky diatribe above is further proof ; you and your deviant cabal are sh*tting yourselves because you know this will see an end to inept Albo and his destructive Labor Govt.

Finally, a schism in the Uniparty.
Interesting that around 60% of voters strongly support or at least moderately support noocular power as a potential option.
This has flipped totally since a similar poll in 2011. At that time, Fukushima, and the attendant Liars/Greens scare campaign was fresh in the minds of voters.
The trouble for the Liars is that they have been locked into anti-noocular power for two generations. They will not be able to pivot away from that.

Sanity Strikes: American College of Pediatricians Calls on Medical Orgs. to Cease Transitioning Kids

Health professionals have said enough to the medical treatments being pushed on children as part of the LGBT agenda and promoted from the highest levels of health systems and politics. Dozens of doctors and health professionals from the American College of Pediatricians signed a momentous statement, also endorsed by numerous professional organizations, asking the medical establishment to abandon its support for gender-affirming care for minors suffering from gender dysphoria.

The statement is also highly critical of so-called “gender ideology,” which results in children being deceived into thinking that they have been born in the wrong body, when nothing is further from reality:

Both NuScale and TerraPower tout their nuclear energy technologies as “advanced” and “next generation,” and both companies claim that market conditions are ripe for commercial deployment. But it’s all been tried in the past, and with disappointing results, according to David Schlissel, director of resource planning analysis for the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis.

Schlissel authored an analysis of the NuScale project in February 2022 predicting its demise. He expects the same fate for TerraPower’s Natrium project in Wyoming.

“There’s every reason in the world to believe that [the Natrium project in Wyoming] is going to be a bigger financial disaster,” Schlissel told WyoFile.

The Teals are not the Lib base, they are the Lib left wing…epitomised by failed Labor Party candidate Malcolm Turnbull.

The Lib base that has been spalling off to other homes, like PHON, SFF and the like have been the actual conservatives. We do not believe in the climate religion and will not vote for the Libs while they continue to push that lie.

Anti-labour politics has always been a coalition of disparate factions who hate workers for their own reasons, but stating that seats like Kooyong, Curtin and Wentworth are not the Liberal base is just moronic, Bruce.

Historical revisionism like this to paint a quixotic mirage of Libs old boys from the Grammar arm in arm with bogan tradies singing Khe Sanh looks extremely foolhardy. But… carry on, if you must.

LOL. Trump is appealing to the blue collar workers exactly because the green-progressives “hate workers for their own reasons” as you put it.

The snooty Teals detest the “help”.

So does Labor, and the “help” have noticed this.

Which is why in my electorate Joel got a terrible fright when a tradie nearly won the seat for PHON. A seat which has been rusted-on Labor since 1910.

The Teals are the doctors wives demographic who would have loved Lord Waffleworth at their book club. They could never bring themselves to vote Green. They would despise Howard Battlers unless they have a job that needs doing. In which case they may offer them a cup of tea provided they don’t wear their work boots in the house.

I’m trusting the term means the wives of medical doctors, rather than STEM PhD’s, otherwise I’m one of them. Non-STEM PhD’s don’t count as they never get to earn enough. It’s pretty inapplicable today though. Once, in the hierarchy of local suburban and rural life, the key social females of the town were the wives of the religious ministers, the doctors, the other professionals like chemists, solicitors, engineers and dentists, and headmasters, with a lower rung of auxiliary professionals like teacher and clerks and then shopkeepers and tradies. Below that, the great unwashed and misfits, which is where I came in. That’s how it was out Penrith way in my yoof anyway.

Now the term doctor’s wives really applies to the well-off wives of upper professionals and corporate executives congregated by property ownership into wealthy areas, wives who like their husbands tend to be university educated and into ‘woke’ cultural things like theatre, opera and charity luncheons, which they attend because they don’t work.

Dickless has dug hard into his box bag of cliches and cock-eyed dilettantism.

It merits a desultory response:

The teals are fashionable greens who will yell and mince when the lights go out.

Trump 2016 was not a product of gerrymander but state rights; that has mushroomed to include blacks and hispanics plus cost of living, border and crime issues which transcend gerry manders as possibly and hopefully californication will express.

Trump was thwarted from doing a clean-out by the extent and deceit of Barry’s swamp which has extended into the lawfare that is now sending millions of otherwise anti-Trumpers into his fold. The thing about the left is inevitably reality responds to their monstrously egoistic policies and thank heavens there are still enough normies to counter-act that, assuming the election cheating is not over-whelming by the dickless bastards.

Trump never lied about anything: he did more for the average folk than anyone before him; period; and I don’t mean what you get every month dickless.

The reason why there has been a movement away from the 2 parties differs for both sides: for the conservatives in the US, here and the UK, it’s because they have been gutless betrayers of their constituents: a truly conservative leader will bring back the disaffected. For the demorats and the liars it’s because they have not been radical enough which is why the demorats and the liars have gone down the rabbit hole after the disaffected radicals in their parties.

Now STFU dickless.

Reading Dave Sabben’s book “Mentions in Despatches: An Infantry Platoon in Viet Nam, June 1966 – June 1967.” Damnfine reading, indeed.

There’s a postscript on the issue of the gallantry awards for the Battle of Long Tan – the award of a D.S.O. was made to each of the C.O. 6RAR and CO 1ATF in each case, citing “personal command of the battle.”

The issue wasn’t closed until August, 2016……

Harry Smith, (Major D Company at Long Tan), was recommended for a DSO, however, due to his, ….., ahem, ….’frankness” during the battle, this was “downgraded” to a MC. He was a very solid leader.

This is a very good doco about Long Tan.
The beginning is a bit “cheesy”, but I guarantee you, it gets intense!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gUSq7pxux4

It has some re-enactments, but also interviews with quite a few men, (including Townsend – CO 6RAR, Sabben, Smith and Geoff Kendall, 10 Platoon Lieut) and also many original radio calls.

18 poor bastards died at Long Tan, (on the Australian side), 12 were conscripts. Many more Vietnamese were killed.
You have to ask don’t you, …….., why?
Looking back, what did Vietnam achieve for us?

Lest we Forget.

One of the many very, very stupid aspects of Dutton bringing Trumpism to Australia is that the reason the Republicans have been losing since 2016 is that Trump has had major swings against him in the suburbs of American cities.

And yet Dutton thinks Trumpism in Australia will not only deliver him more votes in the suburbs, but make them his new heartland?

If Labor thought up the best opposition leader to deliver them a decade of government, they could hardly dream up a better white ant.

So good, I had to transcribe it. From Jo Nova’s blog today:

“A World-Historical Transformation Is Taking Place in Britain, Yet Few Have Noticed”

“A world-historical societal transformation is taking place before our very eyes, and yet few have taken notice. Britain, the erstwhile leader of the Western world and the foundation and source of English-speaking civilization, is in its last days as a free society, and will soon become an Islamic state. Yet despite the mountains of evidence that this transformation is taking place, many will still deny that it is happening at all. They may not even admit it when it overtakes them personally.”

Americans are unfortunately quite clueless about British history. Where to start? Does Spencer even have a clue about English geography, and all these mayors he cites after London are in the Midlands? A historically deprived region most English avoid unless they are born there. Elsewhere England is often as white as the White Album, and they can forget the Midlands exists. I could go on and on pointing out problems with American commentary, and Brits like PG Watson angling for the yankee dollar. What about London? Does Spencer think New York is representative of the rest of America? Then why do he and other Americans assume London should represent England, or Paris represent France? Both were capital of global empires, more like Singapore as interchanges between the English hinterland and the wide world… The American narrative is myopic and useless. But I’ve been talking like this for years and no one is interested. So whatever.

At the local branch level, political parties are like Rotary clubs, school P&Cs, local sports clubs, parish councils etc. There will sometimes be contests, but often they are so desperate for volunteers that anyone who puts up his or her hand for an executive position will be welcomed with open arms and elected unopposed. Unless you are up against practised branch-stackers, it’s frighteningly easy to take over a branch.

Peter Costello: Embattled Nine boss resigns days after shirt-fronting journalist at airportSean SmithThe Nightly
Sun, 9 June 2024 3:00P,M

Embattled Nine Entertainment chairman Peter Costello has resigned suddenly, two days after being involved in an airport altercation with a journalist.
The ASX-listed media group said on Sunday he had been succeeded by his deputy Catherine West.
His resignation came after a long meeting of the Nine Entertainment board on Friday night.
Video on Friday appeared to show Mr Costello pushing over a reporter from The Australian, Liam Mendes, at Sydney Airport as the latter peppered him with questions about the sexual harassment and bullying scandals dogging Nine.
Nine’s announcement of the resignation did not reference the fracas, which was filmed by Mr Mendes. However, it said “the board recognises action and accountability are required to maintain trust”.

Not much love for the IDF in the news services either. Presenter on Sky (presumably England) looked most affronted as she read the report. Even footage of poor Noa being abducted didn’t move her. Much Paliwooding at the hospital though. Sob.

Similar on BBC and CNN. It’s as if the IDF did something criminal. No speculation at all about exactly why hostages were being held behind a bevy of human shields, including children.

Fox goes where others fear to tread. For such a low proportion of population, Islamic representation and visible presence in Britain is breathtaking.

Meanwhile, BBC is running footage of this story as if the young dumdumbs are doing something positive and worthwhile. I wonder where they thought the spray paint originated? As well as most of their clothing.

Spouse and I wandered down to a local eat street near where we live in the coastal paradise former known as Steel City, shared a nice lunch and a bottle at a little eatery that is operated by a young chef couple and their friends.

The place was a favourite business haunt of ours back in media days, owned by old mates and legendary in its time in many circles for lunch drifting into dinner and occasional breakfasts.

The youngsters who have re-purposed the place into a casual beachside eatery are fascinated that old(ish) folks like us drop in to sample their fare, having had no idea of its origins.

Anyhoo, we eat and chat, enjoy the food over an hour or two, but today a young staff member of sub-continental extraction came over to clear up, and said the strangest thing.

He asked if he could give us free dessert (not our thing), because people like us give him hope. “How so?” we asked. “Because you always seem so happy, and yet you are old” (I am 68, spouse is 78 and beginning to falter a bit, but we are still pretty good),

He said he didn’t feel that way very often. Very sobering. We accepted his gift of ice-cream with thanks.

Bandt challenges Labor to sanction Benjamin Netanyahu’s ‘extreme war cabinet’
By tricia rivera

Greens leader Adam Bandt has challenged Labor to punish Israel’s “extreme war cabinet” and has told the pro-Palestine camp that the Albanese government is attempting to slander them.
After coming under fire this week from both Labor and the Opposition and threatening to sue Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus, Mr Bandt took to the stage at a Free Palestine rally in Melbourne to demand the Albanese government slap Benjamin Netanyahu’s government with sanctions, expel the Israeli ambassador, and cut a contract with weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems.
He also called on the Prime Minister to join South Africa’s case against Israel in the International Criminal Court, and ensure F-35 fighter jet parts are not used “in acts of aggression”.
“Our government could have recognised Palestine, our government could … in the last 35 weeks, have put sanctions on this extreme war cabinet of Benjamin Netanyahu that is now subject to court orders to stop genocide,” Mr Bandt told the hundreds of activists on Sunday afternoon.
“If you (the Albanese government) think there’s been some misrepresentation of your position … then turn up next week at a press conference and announce that the government will recognise Palestine.”
He said until Labor met their demands, people would continue to “peacefully and powerfully” hold them to account.

Who was it, who said the Greens movement was nothing more than Fascism, thinly disguised?

Biden only “won” because of about 16 million fake votes.

Meanwhile black and hispanic people are turning to Trump for 2024 in very large numbers, which has the Democrats terrified. The problem with elections being close enough to steal is to do that they have to be close enough.

This is the problem with any sort of credentialism on the Cat. Bruce posts his PhD certificate, then he comes out with this pathetic dumbarsery he read on Infowars as his own opinion. And has the arrogance to claim intellectual superiority! Yeah nah Bruce, you’re off your tree.

Cassie, Monty is just the global anti-Western left’s local online parrot in Australia. The reason he is spending so much time trying to bullshit his political enemies is that, for the first time in years, the left is losing its grip on Europe, America and now Australia.

Monty is scared because, like all leftists, he is addicted to exerting power over normies and sees it slipping away.

It’s not just in Israel where the terrorist savages of Hamas are now losing their battle against the Jewish democracy as the fascist left screams for genocide.

The war against Israel is the left’s proxy for its war on Western civilisation and freedoms globally.

Being an armchair revolutionary is now very fashionable in the West and Jew hatred is its lazy fruit.

99% of Hamas’s armoury against Israel is the Western media’s anti-Jewish propaganda designed to create the illusion that Islamic terrorism has a chance in hell of defeating the Israeli Defence Force.

Using its vast reserves of Western idiots, the propaganda when it fails will inevitably shock the zombies who bought the illusion of Islamist victory as the IDF achieves its aim of dismantling Hamas as a fighting force by the end of this year.

After 1400 years of the fake religion of Islam, adulation for a false god can’t be erased overnight. But Jews know that. So do civilised Westerners.

I’ve been posting comments here for some on this topic, including links to this report among others.

Due to the tax-benefit mix (including “free” education and healthcare and a pension upon retirement), every migrant is now a net drain on the British economy, unless they start a profitable business that creates rather than recycles wealth.

This means future UK governments – even Labour – will have to raise taxes to maintain the current level of services.

I suspect we’ve reached the same tipping point here.

And courtesy of Old Ozzie, (who has deserted us to the less quarrelsome blog of Jo Nova):
The English actor-turned-political-activist Lawrence Fox recently noted what was happening:
– “The Mayor of London is a M@slim.
– The mayor of Birmingham is a M@slim.
– The Mayor of Leeds is M@slim.
– Mayor of Blackburn – M@slim.
– The mayor of Sheffield is a M@slim.
– The mayor of Oxford is a M@slim.
– The mayor of Luton is a M@slim.
– The mayor of Oldham is M@slim.
– The mayor of Rochdale is M@slim.
?
All this was achieved by only 4 million M@slims out of 66 million people in England.”

And not only that the current PM is a Britain hating Indian. The former PM of Scotland, of Paki heritage decries the fact there are too many whites in Scotland. In the West there is a concerted attack on Western values because they are perceived to be white based. Despite non-whites leading the charge the main antagonists are left wing whites who hate themselves and their nation. These people would see their society destroyed so their self loathing can be absolved. They are the problem.

Here’s a succinct summary of the difference between Israel and its enemies, and those enemies include not just Hamas but leftist scum across the West, including our own resident Nazi……

One group celebrates the kidnapping of Jewish men, women and children.

One group celebrates when those same kidnapped Jewish men, women and children are rescued.

In case you didn’t know, the left support the first group, a group that murders, rapes and kidnaps civilians. That’s the ‘lot’ our resident Nazi supports too.

I pray that the Bibas children will also be rescued too.

Something to think about:
THE WRATH OF THE AWAKENED SAXON
by Rudyard Kipling

It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late,
With long arrears to make good,
When the Saxon began to hate.

They were not easily moved,
They were icy — willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the Saxon began to hate.

Their voices were even and low.
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not preached to the crowd.
It was not taught by the state.
No man spoke it aloud
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not suddently bred.
It will not swiftly abate.
Through the chilled years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the Saxon began to hate.

Some people are just too dumb to even survive.

It is good to know that even in today’s anything-goes age, some things are inviolate. Like the “Pride” flag. (If anyone ever explains why being “queer”–their word, not one that I would ever use–is something to be proud of, let me know.) Thus we have kids being arrested for riding their scooters across a Pride flag that was…painted on a street.

So Lime – the manufacturers of the scooter, are going to try and figure out a way to stop the kids doing that.
The kids will simply not buy Lime scooters.
Are we looking at the next Bud Lite suicide?
Probably are, because once the brand is no longer cool in the eyes of the kids, they won’t be able to give the damn things away.

The dominant narrative advanced by the pro-homicide media is that the 7th of October multiple massacres in Israel were the outcome of years of oppression and victimisation of Palestinians by the state of Israel, with the former ‘suffering in silence’ and expressing superhuman restraint until that date.

We here know that is demonstrably untrue, and that the 7th of October was merely part of a long established pattern, albeit an ultra-acute example.

Last year, 2023, there were 179 ‘critical terrorist attacks’ carried out – 27 inside Israel’s borders, where 37 civilians and 6 Israeli security force members were killed [‘Murdered’ seems applicable for the civilians]. (These figures exclude activity in the Gaza Strip).

The Meir Amit Terrorism and Intelligence Information Center has more information, the most interesting (though lacking detail) being the P.A. support for such violence – which the latter titles ‘non-violent popular resistance.’

Funding for the Palestinian Authority originates from where, might we ask?

We’ve just hosted a 21st birthday party at ours, the one for family and family friends, for my grandson from my first marriage. He’s now gone off to the party he’s having tonight with his uni friends and those from the band he plays in. We’ve had a lot to do with this grandchild’s upbringing as his father, my son, has been dealing with autism all of his life and his mother has ongoing schizophrenia, under control but leaving her still a little odd. Both came today and did him proud. We did them all proud too by desisting from political talk, for the lad is of the left (he’s at uni after all) and so are most of the rest of these younger generations.

It was great to have everyone together for his 21st with memories and photos exchanged from past times, I’ll get you a copy etc. We’ve finally cleared up now, taken down the ‘key to the door’ birthday decorations, after a largish afternoon feast including prawns, prosciutto rolls with French cheese, nuts and dips, macaroons, cup cakes and Belgian chocolate cake with Haargen-Das ice cream and 21 candles. Only the best for you, I tell him fondly and he hugs me as I lit the candles. He wasn’t too grown up to be pleased with himself when he blew all the candles out in one go, after a rousing chorus of happy birthday and three cheers.

Those coming by public transport, including the birthday boy, arrived over half an hour late due to a large demonstration of some sort in the CBD. Again. The usual Pallie suspects. This meant my sweet potato chips in the oven got marginally overdone, but otherwise all went well. Another milestone ticked. I’ll have to make a hundred and three to see my last grandchild turn twenty-one, so I’m grateful for what I get now.

Did anyone see old Bo Diddley when he toured Australia in 1973? I saw him at Macquarie Uni in a short afternoon concert. He was backed by a trio of Aussie musicians who were ‘The 69ers’. Bo was just great, with his red box shaped guitar. Charmed us kids, told jokes… He played us his ‘new song’ whose words were Yabba dabba dabba…doo, watch out I’m gonna bite you’. He said they wouldn’t let him call it Yabba dabba doo, insisted on ‘Bite yer’. He showed us importance of rhythm in rock. If you have that you’re on track.

Primary support for the Coalition has lifted to the highest point in almost three years following a damaging two weeks for Labor, as Peter Dutton closes in on Anthony Albanese as the preferred prime minister and the two major parties draw level on a two-party-preferred basis.

A backlash against the Greens has also delivered an electoral blow to the left-wing minor party after it was forced to defend claims by both Mr Albanese and Mr Dutton that the minor party was stoking anti-Semitic protests over the Gaza war.

An exclusive Newspoll conducted for The Australian shows that, with less than a year before the next election is due, the Coalition’s primary vote has lifted two points to 39 per cent.

Conducted between June 3 and June 7, the survey shows the strongest primary vote for the Coalition since August 2021 under the then Morrison government.

Labor’s primary vote fell a point to 33 per cent, wiping off any nominal post-budget gains, and leaving it at levels of support consistent with the last election result of 32.6 per cent.

The two-party preferred vote has tightened four points with the major parties now tied at 50-50.

Bureaucratic red tape may have helped bring about a ceasefire in the toilet-inspired culture war inside the Western Australian Cricket Association.

More than nine months after the news that urinals would not be included in the redevelopment of the historic cricket ground’s northern side sparked an outcry from the membership and brought board-level tensions to the fore, urinals have been reinstated to the plans.

While WA Cricket interim chief executive Justin Michael said the change was a direct response to member feedback, The Australian understands the amendment followed a complication with the state’s liquor licensing requirements.

Under the original plan, toilet facilities within the new section of the ground would have featured only stalls, as well as a common mixed gender wash area with sinks and mirrors.

It is understood the organisation had received advice that the layout would not comply with liquor licensing, solidifying the case for the design overhaul.

Making my way through this incredible podcast on AI and its future. I’ve always maintained the US has the dumbest and smartest people in the world. I was wrong. the smartest are even smarter than I believed possible.

These guys are talking about AI’s evolution, and in a way that I had never thought of before. They’re talking about AI in terms of electricity input, such as mega watts, gigawatts and by 2030, terawatts. It’s another way of seeing energy (electricity) converted to intelligence.

The podcast is about 4 1/2 hours long though and hugely geeky.

https://www.dwarkeshpatel.com/p/leopold-aschenbrenner

A couple of early takeouts.

  1. Menial jobs will be the last and most difficult to get rid of.
  2. The US will need huge amounts of electricity, while production has been essentially dormant for the past 20 years.

My take, and it’s just a guess, is that if AI demands multiples of energy consumption, at least for China, coal will be part of the mix and possibly the most important factor. This gives rise to the likelihood that coal demand will increase. Thinking about coal stocks 🙂

This is an interesting point the dude is making. The national security apparatus is currently seeing AI as mildly useful. By about 2028, it won’t be seen as just useful, not just integral but hugely necessary. To power that level of AI will require huge amounts of energy. Does the security apparatus take energy away from the consumer? That doesn’t mean just blackouts on certain days? It also means consumer goods and even food etc., as everything now has a high level of energy input.

The demand for energy is going to be measured in multiples.

People still die of covid so if people are in the vunerable category or plain just dont want an overseas trip ruined by a bad dose they can be fearful , I guess they were not fearful enough to cower at home though.
I don’t see any need to reason with people who prefer to get vaccinated against a potential fatal illness.

Oh look……The Oz’s Newspoll (one of the more accurate polls)…

Primary support for the Coalition has lifted to the highest point in almost three years following a damaging two weeks for Labor, as Peter Dutton closes in on Anthony Albanese as the preferred prime minister and the two major parties draw level on a two-party-preferred basis.

A backlash against the Greens has also delivered an electoral blow to the left-wing minor party after it was forced to defend claims by both Mr Albanese and Mr Dutton that the minor party was stoking anti-Semitic protests over the Gaza war.

Nice to know I still live in a country where there might be some electoral pushback to leftist Green Jew hatred.

I still think the Liberal’s ability to win back 19 seats is too much of a task when dealing with a first term government, no matter how inept and sleazy that first term government is, and the grubby forked tongued Trot from Grayndler takes first prize in ineptness and sleaziness however I suspect we will see an outcome similar to 2010. One good thing though, the Liberals don’t have the Scumbag factor hanging over them like a bad smell. But I reckon at least half of the Teals will be returned to the Liberal fold and many electorates lost to Labor in 2022 will be returned to the Liberal fold, and that includes the electorate of Aston lost to Labor last year.

I remember reading a piece in the Oz last year, soon after the unexpected Aston win, before life got too difficult for the scowling Trot and his comrades, that is before the unravelling economy, before the Voice defeat, before October 7, before October 9 when Jew hatred exploded on our streets, stoked by many of the Trot’s comrades on the left, the hard-left and among adherents of the religion of pieces, how the Trot from Grayndler was convinced he was ‘electoral messiah’ and that at the next election he was convinced Labor could snatch more seats from the Liberals, Labor could take Andrew Hastie’s seat and…wait for it…Dutton’s seat of Dickson, despite the factor that Labor has spent two decades throwing dosh at Dickson, desperately trying to win it from Dutton and failing every single time.

Even Labor hardheads, of which there are still one or two, thought the Trot was off his rocker and that the electoral highwater mark had been reached in 2022.

Albozo is no messiah, he always was and he always will be a Trot from Grayndler.

Particularly from female members I would think. Men are not known to be especially…accurate. And after a few Swan lagers it would be even worse.

You have to wonder what these people are thinking, it’s so obvious.

The only criticism I can make of Israel is that they have been too nice to the the perennial shiitestirrers and failures as human beings.

Luvved the details to this .. Wifey opened the door .. they shot her .. hubby bounds down the stairs at noise .. they shot him .. His daddy grabs his Koran .. they shot him .. Sister got lucky she was whinging & wailing, like towel-heads do, but only wounded .. Still 3 out of 4 is acceptable..! .. LOL!

Not wanting to make light of the tragedy of Michael Mosley’s death, he has been long hailed as a “health guru”. Why then, did he take off for a hike in the middle of the day, during a scorching Greek Summer, with an umbrella and a small bottle of water?
Here in Aus, it is rammed into us, practically from birth, that you don’t do anything stupid between 11 and 3. If you must, carry LOTS of water, and try to stay in the shade.

As someone commented upthread, “only Mad Dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun.

RIP Dr Mosley.

Health Gurus live in a world where they are immune to the consequences of stupidity.
Because they are Health Gurus.
Go figure.

…Aljamal was contributing to the Palestine Chronicle news outlet…

With 25 years of professional Palestinian journalism, I’m surprised they weren’t stringers for the ABC.

AI’s decade ahead.

“You can see the future first in San Francisco.
Over the past year, the talk of the town has shifted from $10 billion
compute clusters to $100 billion clusters to trillion-dollar clusters. Ev-
ery six months another zero is added to the boardroom plans. Behind
the scenes, there’s a fierce scramble to secure every power contract
still available for the rest of the decade, every voltage transformer
that can possibly be procured. American big business is gearing up
to pour trillions of dollars into a long-unseen mobilization of Amer-
ican industrial might. By the end of the decade, American electricity
production will have grown tens of percent; from the shale fields of
Pennsylvania to the solar farms of Nevada, hundreds of millions of
GPUs will hum.
The AGI race has begun. We are building machines that can think
and reason. By 2025/26, these machines will outpace college grad-
uates. By the end of the decade, they will be smarter than you or I;
we will have superintelligence, in the true sense of the word. Along
the way, national security forces not seen in half a century will be un-
leashed, and before long, The Project will be on. If we’re lucky, we’ll
be in an all-out race with the CCP; if we’re unlucky, an all-out war.
Everyone is now talking about AI, but few have the faintest glimmer
of what is about to hit them. Nvidia analysts still think 2024 might
be close to the peak. Mainstream pundits are stuck on the willful
blindness of “it’s just predicting the next word”. They see only hype
and business-as-usual; at most they entertain another internet-scale
technological change.
Before long, the world will wake up. But right now, there are perhaps
a few hundred people, most of them in San Francisco and the AI
labs, that have situational awareness. Through whatever peculiar forces
of fate, I have found myself amongst them. A few years ago, these
people were derided as crazy—but they trusted the trendlines, which
allowed them to correctly predict the AI advances of the past few
years. Whether these people are also right about the next few years
remains to be seen. But these are very smart people—the smartest
people I have ever met—and they are the ones building this technol-
ogy. Perhaps they will be an odd footnote in history, or perhaps they
will go down in history like Szilard and Oppenheimer and Teller. If
they are seeing the future even close to correctly, we are in for a wild
ride.
Let me tell you what we see.”

More here.

Funny how we can supposedly make machines that can “think”, but we can’t teach our kids to attain better than we did 30 or 40 years ago. Even after stuffing education with wads of money.

I read all of it today, JC, it took ages. He is shaping the narrative on behalf of deep USA interests. At least it’s a good warning of how they are thinking.

An Order of Australia for Dictator Dan.
That’s disgraced to the Order.
What precisely did he “achieve” that benefited the Victorian public other than political bastardry over a long period?

Dan achieved the title of most trips to the IBAC for a Victorian premier.
Which we wouldn’t know about if it wasn’t for the Oz.

I still think the Liberal’s ability to win back 19 seats is too much of a task when dealing with a first term government, no matter how inept and sleazy that first term government is…

True, Cassie, but Newspoll finds the LNP is already 50:50 with the Liars — which means, considering “shy Tories” hate talking to pollsters, that the LNP is already far ahead 2PP.

Plus there’ll be no anti-LNP tricks this time, like the Britnah circus and the Rich Bitches, a.k.a. Teals

I might be an optimist, but I’m seeing a rerun of the Abbott landslide in 2013 now that Mr Potato Head has taken the side of the Forgotten People on cost of living and energy against the government’s climate/energy swindle.

Look at the way Bowen and Elbow are already squealing. And the leftwing media, including the ABC, haven’t even started their gotchas yet, which even the normies can see coming.

I’m an optimist too, Tom. At this stage, Dutton is doing everything right and I think that Labor are more than a tad concerned about him.

Off topic: thank you for the cartoons and WIPs. I, and many others, appreciate the time and effort involved in bringing us our morning fix.
