Speaking of writing, fiction or otherwise, some people have it some don’t, that’s the way it is.

Isn’t this just a great bit of descriptive writing?

—————————

On 7 January 1967, John Steinbeck was at Pleiku, Vietnam, where he flew aboard a UH-1 Huey helicopter with D Troop, 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry. He wrote the following about the helicopter pilots:

“I wish I could tell you about these pilots. They make me sick with envy. They ride their vehicles the way a man controls a fine, well-trained quarter horse.

They weave along stream beds, rise like swallows to clear trees, they turn and twist and dip like swifts in the evening. I watch their hands and feet on the controls, the delicacy of the coordination reminds me of the sure and seeming slow hands of (Pablo) Casals on the cello. They are truly musicians’ hands and they play their controls like music and they dance them like ballerinas and they make me jealous because

I want so much to do it. Remember your child night dream of perfect flight free and wonderful? It’s like that, and sadly I know I never can. My hands are too old and forgetful to take orders from the command center, which speaks of updrafts and side winds, of drift and shift, or ground fire indicated by a tiny puff or flash, or a hit and all these commands must be obeyed by the musicians hands instantly and automatically.

I must take my longing out in admiration and the joy of seeing it.”

Biden admits the US has fallen behind in the ability to produce new weapon systems.

He doesn’t have a clue. What a surprise.

The USA is building new weapon systems at a faster rate than the rest of the world combined. No other country has operational stealth fighters. J20, with canards, is not stealthy Low observable at best. No other country shows evidence of stealth cruise missiles, or 6th gen fighters, or comparable submarines, no country has stealth bombers, the AIM260 etc etc.

Boomers have burnt through the wealth of their parents and are running up enormous debts that their grandchildren will spend most of their lives servicing

Wait, what .. my parents had wealth, you mean lots of money type wealth?

Nope, they lived and died comfortably, but never financially wealthy.

The parents of Boomers wanted their kids to have a good life, free of war, poverty and hunger.

Indeed, if they had wealth, that was it, that they accomplished what they set out to do and made the world a better place for the next generation.

Thank you ..

I see Farage overnight has terminated Ben Habib. And why not? Farage wants the party to grow, not stagnate.

Farage took Habib’s money and is now discarding him from the corporation (it’s not a party, Farage owns it).

At least Habib is a real person and campaigned for his votes, unlike some of Reform’s other candidates (allegedly).

Boo! to absurd generalisations about any artificially created ‘generation’, including so-called Boomers.

The crushing public debt being laid on future generations was inflicted by politicians born after the ‘Boomers’ – and voters were never consulted.

On another note, apparently the whole country is ‘structurally racist’ according to a report from people whose existence depends on finding racism in every nook and cranny:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-07-12/human-rights-commission-report-says-government-failing-on-racism/104085808

You have to name the demon to slay it,” Australia’s Race Discrimination Commissioner, Giridharan Sivaraman told the ABC.
The “demon” in this case is racism, a term many in government were reluctant to use, a new report from the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) found.
The AHRC report found governments and their departments at all levels had failed to identify racism and were not taking enough action to address it.

Where do these people get off? What demon?

These people are playing too many online fantasy games.

Like the ACT jobsworth assigned to find racism who ended up pleading for people to report something, anything – what a load of rubbish, And the predictable ‘reports’ of headscarves being ripped off, but never substantiated, it needs to go in the circular filing cabinet.

Rejected comment in the Oz in relation to a bloke who was saying whitey deliberately brought in smallpox:

Do you have some proof of this or are you just saying it?

It would be impossible to incubate smallpox in those times and then release it.

Please supply your evidence.

A lot of effort has been put in by the alarmists to discredit past extreme temp maximums. This map by Jo shows Cloncurry in 1889 having a temp of 53C or 127F.

australia-map-heat-waves-5-web.gif (650×546) (joannenova.com.au)

The usual shitheads have lampooned this; here is a news report from 1889:

Back then folks took their temps very seriously and did not fiddle with them and make them the servant of ideology.

Whilst the gaffes spoken today by the Sniffer in Chief were funny, he did say something very revealing. After he stumbled over some words he said…

‘I’m catching hell from my wife’

He then looked rather subdued and downcast.

TheirABC’s version of a perfect relationship:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-07-12/we-made-a-spreadsheet-to-manage-the-mental-load/104088984

Before my partner Dave and I moved in together two years ago, I proposed that we make a spreadsheet to divide the “mental load” surrounding housework.
This involved assigning specific chores to ourselves, as well as the mental planning that would lead to those chores being enacted. It was incredibly sexy stuff, and Dave absolutely loved it. (He did not.)
The spreadsheet was modelled off an example that author Eve Rodsky made with her husband. Rodsky believes that when it comes to co-living, each partner should take “ownership” over a chore — rather than delegating or doing “half-half” — thereby streamlining the chore and its associated mental load and hopefully preventing squabbles and one-upmanship.
In our spreadsheet, Dave’s main chores included cleaning the bathroom, stacking and unstacking the dishwasher, doing the laundry, and taking out the trash. My main chores included cooking, cleaning the floors, car upkeep, and maintaining our social calendar.

Leaving aside the obvious, that it was she, not he, that came up with this nutty idea, and he just went along, I question TheirABC’s honesty about this ‘story.’

It is a cut and paste from some USA site, no question. We have ‘trash’ instead of garbage or rubbish. we have ‘chores’, we have ‘maintaining our social calendar.’ Future attempts at plagiarism need more than the 1% you put in on this one.

Just spent the day at a pleasant very long lunch with a group of women friends. Thirty of us at tables overlooking one of the stunning northern beaches. Hostess provided the main course and we all brought the finger food starters and the plentiful cakes and sweet things, where the girls who can cook really excelled – who made this one, and this one, and this one? went the queries. This is not a competitive display that I ever enter. I did manage to steam up some ready-to-steam little dim sims for starters (not really up to the standard of the starters from several Asian and Chinese girls amongst us) and I took Prosecco for imbibing in small coupes, because driving. Not a greatly alcoholic event as it’s Dry July for some (not me) and we get high enough on the pheromones of girl chat anyway.

We also enjoyed a rousing reading of ‘Clancy of the Overflow’ instead of speeches – for we were celebrating the Old Australia many of us remember.

Sadly I will miss the ‘Christmas in July’ event planned by another hostess as we will be in Fiji on July 25th. And just sent apologies too for the ‘Sydney Cats’ Winter Balls-Up’ on the 26th. That’s the trouble with living near the Pacific, many people flee to warmer island climes, or to North Queensland, for July.

People who call Trump a loon, a danger to the US and the world, a madman etc are fuking insane, literally out of touch with reality. Steve Price tonight, about whom I usually have some time, joins this conga line of fukwits boo hooing and equating the old pervert with Trump. Is this 2 the best the US can come up with, the old prune-face intones

We know what Trump is like. He was fuking POTUS for 4 years; he brought world peace, unparalleled prosperity to the US, record employment of minorities, safe borders and streets and pride back to Western values. He never pursued by illegal means his many enemies.

He was defeated by the msm, the swamp set up by that black bastard obama and the chunk virus. Those 3 groups are understandable but still on talkback and amongst the punters there is a sizable minority who believe the bullshit peddled about the guy and regurgitate the crap. I still maintain democracy is the best political system but with a lot of the punters being as gullible and stupid and lazy as they are it is sometimes a close call.

Ha, ha! Channel 7 has discovered comedy and tacked three minutes of it to the news calling it the 6:57 News. There were two minutes or so of highlighting Biden’s lapses of this week with a droll commentary. This must be something they are trying out.

I remember in the early 70s Paul Hogan, billed as a Harbour Bridge rigger to do a routine at the end of the news which is how he got his start. I think it may have been Channel 9 that did it.

Nobody saw this coming two years ago…

Google’s electricity and water usage is approaching that of medium sized countries like Japan and the UK as it adopts AI in its data centres.

The tech company, which has invested substantially in AI, said its “extremely ambitious” goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2030 “won’t be easy”.

The Guardian

I suspect “extremely ambitious” translates from corporate jargon to plain English as “ain’t gonna happen.”

Google’s Net Zero Plans Are Going Up in Smoke (10 Jul)

In 2017, Google declared it had reached “100% renewable energy for our global operations.” … In fact, since 2017, Google’s environmental reports show that the company’s electricity use, CO2 emissions, and carbon intensity have soared. The most recent numbers came out last Tuesday when the search and advertising colossus released its 2024 environmental report. And the numbers don’t lie. As seen in the chart below, since 2017, CO2 emissions at Google have jumped four-fold to a company record of 14.3 million tons in 2023.

Wow, data centres use lots of energy, especially AI ones. Who’da thunk it?

Don’t be evil Google peoples. Btw why did you dispense with that motto?

Love Abba.

So does the bank they are with. ( :

Royalties keep flooding in.

Bjorn Ulvaeus, prior to Abba, was in a Swedish group named (I kid you not) The Hootenanny Singers, & crossing paths on tour with a group called the Hep Stars (seriously) made friends with the Hep Stars’ keyboard player, Benny Andersson.
The two of them wrote a couple of songs together, for others to record. One was (translated from the Swedish) “Living in the Sixties” – here it is, set to home movies from the time, focusing on the big event in Sweden of the 1960s, the switch from driving on the Left, to driving on the Right side of the road.

Ulvaeus’ talent as a songwriter shows through, & it doesn’t take much to see how he morphed into the superhits that he wrote for Abba.
