America’s favorite doughnut company and coffeehouse chain Krispy Kreme, Inc. warned this week that higher costs for donut ingredients, such as flour, butter, milk, oil, and sugar, are forcing the company to raise prices in September.

That tremor you just felt was mOnster fainting.
But, hey, it’s only donuts, right?
It’s not like those ingredients are used in anything else.

Another example of the ruling elite using an oxymoron to “justify” an argument.

Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley said “parents are not in the dark” about plans for when children can return to school, even though no date has been put forward or vaccination targets.

Mrs Zippy refuses to believe that the US was so incompetent to leave all those weapons behind without a reason.

I thought about it, did beijing biden leave those planes and helicopters and systems behind so the chicoms could get their hands on them? I am sure the taliban will be only too happy to sell a plane or helicopter and bits of tech for hard yellow dollars. gives beijing biden plausible deniability.

We oldies call it “the Powers That Be”.

    But “Cathedral” sounds sexier. 😀

Seriously though, it also has overtones of religious fervour which is quite applicable – think climate change, ruinables, intersectional politics, race baiting and the like. All now come under, and are approved by, another old fashioned term – The Establishment.

If you prefer sci-fi, you might prefer…The Borg. Resistance is futile, assimilation inevitable.

The reality is that America lost its war in Afghanistan more than a decade ago, roughly around the time when CIA officers began bribing aging warlords with Viagra. The Americans knew all about the young boys the tribal leaders kept in their camps; because the sex drug helped Afghan elders rape more boys more often, they were beholden to America’s clandestine service. Losing Afghanistan then is the least of it. When you choose to adopt a foreign cohort’s cultural habits, customs for which the elders of your own tribe would ostracize and perhaps kill you, you have lost your civilization.

Harvard is just another institution that has been taken over so its credibility cache can be squandered on passing progressive fads.

Afterward it will be a sepulchre to the progressive ‘spirit’, but not causes because they will have changed by then, although there will need to be need to be expiation of the ghosts of ‘old white men’. And the bequests will have dried up – the people going through there now think philanthropy is where you make the government take money from rednecks and give it to pampered victim groups that are not themselves short of money like QWERTYs.

    Another venerable institution killed off.

Lefties cannot create anything worthwhile. When they try it is stunted and warped, and needs to be kept alive with other people’s money and sustained PR. They cannot inspire. They cannot truly unite because each one of them thinks they are the centre of the universe. When they work together it is because each thinks they are using the others to advance their cause, and so long as their causes align they can have force. It is like the seawater – waves can carry enormous force crashing against the base of a cliff, but it doesn’t pile up and become cliff-like. But over millennia it can undercut a cliff and bring in crashing down the its level.

Speaking of the decline of Universities:

Up to four times as many university students use commercial contract cheating services than previously estimated, according to a new study, and researchers say the most likely users are those with a non-English first language.

The study of 4098 students at Australian tertiary institutions, surveyed at the end of last year, estimates 7.9 per cent of students pay commercial sites to ghost write assignments for them and 11.4 per cent use file-sharing sites where they can access other students’ work. Both practices are regarded as cheating.

From The Oz, with an interesting analysis of the methodology of the study. Apparently the participants were fed drugs – the Bayesian Truth Serum. (joke)

I was now completely terrified, however since I was alone with her in the dark, I gave her a good hump. Even though I found her thighs flabby, her genitals greasy and her breath stinking a bit, my lust was so desperate that I went ahead and gave it to her anyway.”

When their liaison was over, Machiavelli managed to find a lamp and was able to shine a light on the woman:

“My God, she was so ugly that I almost dropped dead… a tuft of hair, half white and half black, the top of her head was bald which allowed you to see several lice taking a stroll… Her eyebrows were full of nits; one eye looked down and the other up. Her tear ducts were full of mucus… her nose was twisted into a peculiar shape, the nostrils were full of snot and one of them was half missing. Her mouth looked like Lorenzo de Medici’s, twisted on one side and drooling since she had no teeth to keep the saliva in her mouth. Her lip was covered with a thin but rather long moustache…”

When the woman spoke to him, Machiavelli was struck by her “stinking breath” and:

“…heaved so much that I vomited all over her.”

This isn’t true, Arky. My devout Catholic granny tried. She told me I had a conscience, and I checked carefully and discovered she was right, but it didn’t work the way she said it did. She thought it would lead me to faith, but it led in the opposite direction. It won’t let me buy your bullshit, for example.

The fact that yours is so scruffy means you still have some moral development to go. I guess we all do. That’s why some muslims think throwing poofs off tall buildings is ok. Other Muslims would disagree, as with so many theological matters.

Chimps Have a Sense of Fairness

Do they have spirituality? not sure what that would mean for a chimp. not sure how we could even test that. Clearly they have beliefs but its not like they can tell us about them.

Arky having a sense of fairness doesn’t preclude dominance and hierarchical games for the best females. These are rarely to the death. Nor does it preclude chimp tribes waging war on other tribes. It also doesn’t preclude acting selfish, violent or ignoring the sense. It’s there as some form of built-in wiring, like hunger or sex drives. A chimp doesn’t fuck anything that moves, just because it has a sex drive. There is a complex hierarchy to consider, consequences, alliances, signals the female gives. etc.

Chimps can be taught very rudimentary sign language, but their ability to communicate this way is limited. They are simply not wired for language like a human is.

The chimps notion of fairness is more like a child’s, hey you got more than me, give me some. Not so much as, hey you got less than me, take some of mine. From an evolutionary perspective the first step is likely a prerequisite for the next step.

When we were at an overseas zoo we visited a gorilla enclosure. There was a large male in with several females. The male had a pile of food in front of him which he was snacking on. A female got up from a distance and started sashaying in a gorillas version of a sexy walk. She moved closer to the male, but not looking at him or moving directly towards him, really in what might be described as an offhanded manner.

The male gorilla gave her a sideways glance and with both arms pulled all his food in closer to himself and continued eating. We laughed. He knows exactly what she’s up to.

It not exactly a case of blaming Paddy. It’s just that there’s a ridge of metal under a new external door where the weather brushes attach and it is quite invisible – although quite audible scraping the tiles when you try to fully open the door. Not my fuck up at all. And I’m perfectly fine with physical workers. Why wouldn’t I be? I’ve been one myself many a time in me yoof. Hairy just wants me to calm ruffled Irish feathers with some smiles and eyelash batting, which I can very effectively do by pointing out how no-one knew about this hidden ridge and we of course will pay for any extra time and tiles needed to remedy the situation and that worse things happen at sea, etc.

I think you’ll find if you read carefully that the number of people who enjoy conducting human sacrifices and throwing Poofs off buildings is actually quite small, and that the numbers are largely augmented by those who go along to get along. Just as most ppl are not especially devout in their religion, but don’t wish to be singled out as backsliders by those who are devout. So they watch the sacrifices and burnings at the stake but their enthusiasm is for not being the next sacrifice or victim. They want to be in the gang, but not to lead it.

But I’m sure you’re every bit as evil as you say you are. I’m glad therefore that the fear of God inhibits you. Imagine No Big Cities
Dennis Prager Posted: Aug 24, 2021

    https://townhall.com/columnists/dennisprager/2021/08/24/nis-prager-n2594620

Remember John Lennon’s silly song, “Imagine”?

Well, here’s my (much shorter) version.

Imagine if some of the biggest cities in America seceded from their states. Imagine Illinois without Chicago, Pennsylvania without Philadelphia, California without Los Angeles or San Francisco, New York state without New York City, or Texas without Houston, Dallas or San Antonio.

Those states would lose a major tax base and some of their best orchestras and other artistic institutions. But the gains in quality of life would completely offset any financial or artistic losses.

Big cities have been and continue to be centers of destructive ideas, and the people living in them are generally coarser and often just plain meaner. Of course, there are decent individuals in big cities and obnoxious people outside of big cities. But having a greater proportion of nice to obnoxious is more likely in smaller cities and other non-urban areas. Everyone reading this knows that one is more likely to be treated warmly when entering a store or dining in a restaurant in Cooperstown, New York, than in Brooklyn, New York; in Laramie, Wyoming, than in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

As regards bad and destructive ideas, big cities almost hold a monopoly.

We’re rotten. Absolutely rotten, all of us. You too.

I don’t think it’s as simple as that. Most people are capable of behaving atrociously in a crowd. That’s because most people are natural slaves who need someone else to tell them what to do, think and feel. If the guy who tells them is a homicidal lunatic, they’ll be homicidal lunatics, just to keep in with the crowd. If it’s Jesus Christ in charge, they’ll behave charitably and decently.

I’m poor slave material, otherwise known as an arrogant, antisocial bastard. I prefer to work things out for myself. If I felt an urge to conduct a human sacrifice, I’d carefully figure out how to get away with it. But I don’t.

Perhaps I really am a nicer person than you are. It’s a dreadful thought, but I’m brave enough to consider the possibility.

Relatively few Maos, lots of Red Guards.

I used to think the world would be a better place if more ppl thought for themselves, but having seen some of them try and fail for lack of the requisite wet-ware, I’ve come to doubt it.

Maybe if someone invents a way of doubling the IQ of everybody then gets them to think for themselves it might work. Hell, just adding forty points to everyone might do it. We seem to be going in the opposite direction.

Technology of killing people has advanced considerably, Arky. Genghis Khan would have done more if he’d had nukes. Also, population has gone up since medicine got some science in it, so the moderns have an advantage in straight body count.

I don’t think we’re intrinsically better people than our ancestors, but we are much wealthier so can afford to be kinder. We’re probably more cowardly and more detached from reality, which allows crowds to go insane more readily.

I don’t believe any of those things, Arky.

    ..
    I didn’t say you did.
I said you shared the underlying delusion of human goodness.
We’re rotten. Absolutely rotten, all of us. You too.
The fact that you don’t recognise this basic fact of human nature makes you more dangerous, not less, as the listed errors of those who share the delusion demonstrates.

The fact that you entertain that misunderstanding of human nature makes you very dangerous because it gives you license to behave like a sociopathic killer. Most human beings are not inherently violent, do not wish harm on others, and have recognised that co-operation is a better long term strategy. The known history of human evolution points to ever increasing co-operation and a decline in violence on a per capita basis.

Happy to see this because while everyone was thinking REM sleep was about cognition I have long thought it was about brain cleansing. Not proven yet but it makes sense to me.
    Why the dreaming phase matters
Why the dreaming phase matters (medicalxpress.com)

Given that reduced blood flow in the brain and decreased REM sleep are correlated with the development of Alzheimer’s disease, which involves the buildup of waste products in the brain, it may be interesting to address whether increased blood flow in the brain capillaries during REM sleep is important for waste removal from the brain. This study lays preliminary groundwork for future investigations into the role of adenosine A2a receptors in this process, which could ultimately lead to the development of new treatments for conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.

I put that down to affluence. Nothing more. Humans are violent bastards. They have to be, in order to survive, and they will do anything to remove another food drain because if you’re hungry enough yu’ll do anything.

Very, very, very recent developments. And temporary ones.
The life of a prostitute for the vast majority of history starts in a cathouse doing it in return for food and board, with the madam handling all the money, then once the prostitute is old, infected or otherwise not required, out into street prostitution. Street prostitutes get managed by street pimps.
I dare say a minority of chicks with some business sense can for a time make money doing it. But it’s a minority.
