La Palma has a bloody great fracture right up the guts of the island, and has been a concern for tsunami people for some time. If the left half of the island slides into the sea, as is possible, the modeling suggests the tsunami arriving at New York City will be 50m high. Maybe even bigger.
I was in Thailand in 2013 and they were still patching up after the 2004 Tsunami. The height of those waves were about 50 meters.
A Virginia Class without nuclear missiles is like an unloaded gun.
We don’t need to defend sea lanes.
Nukes – China cannot defend itself.
you mean ‘a range of fixed targets which can be taken out’
Exactly why the disputed Chinese bases on various atolls are no real threat. An ICBM-equipped sub or carrier group is much harder to fix target.
Classical republicanism isn’t about crap like a hereditary monarchy.
A monarchy just prevents such a righteous path.
I would have thought that the advantage of having nuclear subs is that we would then be able to operate jointly with the US and, if we are part of their Pacific strategy (and them most of ours) then they will be all the more solicitous of our security.
We expect them to bail us out as it is. This way they have more of a reason.
Exactly Mother Lode.
I view the sub contract as an expedient way to get US subs working out of Australian ports ASAP, under the cover of ‘training’, etc.
Submarines are an important plank of the defence strategy of an island nation.
The ditching of the French Prius subs was a no brainer and the most logical replacement was the nuculear variant of one of our major allies.
Almost as importantly, this is a sign of a minister willing to grab his portfolio by the scruff of the neck and tell the bureacrats he is makes the decisions and they implement them.
Sortition, demarchy, jury nullification, direct participatory democracy, recall votes, ostracism, subsidiarity…the head of state issue is very marginal!
And I have zero problem with that.
As long as the subs have gender neutral toilets.
Under Comrade Albo the US nuke subs will be retrofitted with Tesla donks. These can be re charged at sea based Tesla windmills.
It was apparent to Blind Freddie that this virus was airborne from very early on in the pandemic. Thus herding arrivals into often badly airconditioned quarantine hotels was a retrograde step, especially when there was no possibility of opening a window. Let alone the claustrophobia such conditions would have entailed for a 14 day stay. Nevertheless, this woman has done sterling scientific work to get better air quality in all buildings. Life-saving in some cases. A true scientist, providing the data.
If you think this sub deal was cooked up in a week and they managed to tee-up BoJo and SlowJoe all as a diversion for ScoMo’s Father’s Day outing, you are smoking some seriously good hydroponic shit.
I reckon this deal was in the offing under Trump, but we didn’t have the balls to do it then.
In the Great Scheme of Things, one old bloke in rural Queensland being charged by police for carrying a pocket knife is a tiny blip on the radar.
It shouldn’t be, it should be a full scale air raid alert.
Over zealous police in this country are steadily undermining the respect and trust that most of the population traditionally have given to police officers.
VicPol are the standouts in the uniformed thug stakes, with overweight plods kneeling down in front of howling BLM crowds, arresting pensioners for taking a spell on a park bench, handcuffing a tiny little woman in her pyjamas for a Facebook post and firing tear gas at unarmed citizens, but other state police are heading down the same track..
There are many honest and conscientious cops out there, and it would be chaos without an active police force in the community, but some of these rogues who seem drunk with power need to be reined in.
Cincinnatus lives!!
We have very few facts, about anything, we have to make do with reports of facts from other ppl of doubtful reliability. I don’t have enough facts to confirm beyond reasonable doubt that men have walked on the moon, although I’m pretty sure they have. Reasonably reliable data about wuflu does exist, and can be used with some caution, for example the Diamond Princess data. There is also good evidence to suggest that our government has totalitarian urges at all levels. And plenty of evidence that they are incompetent. I don’t have direct experience of these things, but I can put together reports on what they have said. I give some high level of credibility to the above report by one of us on what Tony Abbott wrote in the Oz, although I haven’t read a newspaper in many a long yonk. And I am not confident that Abbott believes what he says, for several reasons.
In this world we can’t be certain of anthing much, but we can and do make sensible judgments.
In short, Struth, you overstate your position, as you often do. Reasonable arguments can be contaminated by polemic, and it weakens your case.
ok subs, now what about a leaky bio-weapons lab?
Defence of Australia from China involves this:
Doing whatever is required to allow the US to land U.S. Marines on the Australian Mainland.
Long term the security of Australia requires another 20 million loyal Australians, an INDUSTRIAL BASE in order to design, make and service whatever the next generation of cutting edge military shit is (drones, satellites, viruses, gigantic fucking robots with lasers for eyes, what the fuck ever).
As the USA seems to be infecting the rest of the English speaking world with it’s toxic woke crap. I think the first act of any conservative who wants to defend Australia might be to give the old style lefties like Numberface the thing they always said they wanted, and cut the cable on all that US cultural product. Including the social media shit.

Found this link in a comment on a Spectator article. It suggests that if unvaccinated people with Covid end up at hospital they essentially get nothing until they are ill enough to require a ventilator. However, if a vaccinated person catches Covid and also ends up needing hospitalisation they get Ivermectin.
I have not idea if this is true for many or any cases, but if true this would surely be known by the nursing staff and prescribing doctors, so it should leak at some stage (as I say, IF it is true)
If this is true, then it needs to get publicised and could turn out to be pivotal. That is IF it is true.

I’ve read somewhere that a piece of South America fell into the sea about 600 years ago and the resultant Tsunami came over the height of The Gap into Sydney’s harbour. So some geologist said.
Don’t know if it’s fake news or not. I’ve done the measure by eye, we’re safe, just about high enough up in the Vaucluse dress circle. I’ve always said views are better than waterfrontage. 😀
Yep. Short, sharp and reasonable. Except when you decide not to be, to push the boat out and have a real go at something. There is a place for polemic too in life. But not too much of it.

Labor appeals to Google over misinformation fears before Australian election
Google queried over its strategy to prevent being ‘exploited’ by political figures such as Clive Palmer and Craig Kelly, who have been accused of undermining Australia’s response to Covid
What horrible things have they been doing.??
The Therapeutic Goods Administration also on Wednesday issued a cease and desist letter to Kelly as leader of the United Australian party (UAP), demanding that the party stop distributing incomplete extracts of adverse event reports relating to Covid-19 vaccines which the regulator believes “could be seriously misleading”.
Imagine that, a political party only running the bits of research they want to highlight.
Unheard of.
I assume all political parties are now banned from referring to ejaculating taxpayers money up the wall as “Investment”.?
Dr. BG is right though. So much of what we consider factual is hyp, or faked, or rumour assisted by Chinese Whispers. Especially when journalism is at its current low state of being mere activism, and politicians are all trying to look out for themselves rather than the country. It can be depressing.
No, I won’t go there. No black dog in this household. Attapuss, now nicknamed Fatso, is quite enough in the line of animal irritants around here, the way he wails whenever Hairy and I hug, because he’s feeling left out. Former Boeing Pilot Expected to Face Prosecution in 737 MAX Probe
Federal prosecutors plan to criminally charge a former Boeing pilot they suspect of misleading aviation regulators about safety issues blamed for two fatal crashes of the 737 MAX, according to people familiar with the matter.
A pilot is the cause for the engineering issues with the 737 MAX?
The problem this pilot had when he mislead the investigators was that he wasn’t a FBI agent lying to a FISA court.
Do that & you’re home free.
I can’t comment about the subs because I know zero about them, the pros and cons, the strategic importance, etc.
My only interest is in the timing of the announcement.
It’s a classic “look over there” moment.
In that Aussie Cossack video the wanker who squares up to the person videoing has a massive all black sleeve tattoo covering his whole forearm.
Very 2008 gen-x, sad guy, and makes it look like NSW Police have been recruiting from the hells angels – soy division.
I joke but it is serious, with tattoos like that comes a mindset, put a bunch of people with that mindset together with guns and you get a gang ‘we’re not like you’ mindset.
I still contend that moving the West on from the many Globalist traps it’s been seduced by (which necessarily meant bringing Australia up to modern military base standards), was part of what got ‘The Goodies’ behind Trump & helped to push him past the Hillary Camp.
I fully believe that Trump’s been working with the world’s secret powerful ‘Goodies’ since he was quite young.
Ozsage are left wing activists Lizzie.
Reasonably reliable data about wuflu does exist.
That’s just a statement.
In a situation where our liberties are gone, should you not require proof?
At the very least?
What about when the data is always changing.
The vaxxes are safe, then they are withdrawn, then pushed again.
You and many like you make these statements, and whether or not a man went to the moon or not does not impact on your Liberty, fair enough.
Make some conclusions based on what you may think is the real story.
My argument is sound.
When life and death for millions of people are at stake and our liberties gone, dribbling shit and calling what may be pure propaganda “reasonable” well then sir, “maybe ” isn’t good enough by a long shot.
Lizzie no more knows for a fact what covid does to lungs than she knows how the inner workings of an 18 speed Road Ranger works.
And she can’t prove she does.
She can quote something that she has been told or read she has chosen to believe.
It’s not just Lizzie, but I’m just using her as an example.
In this situation, facts are all that should be accepted.
My family doctor in SA is telling my father all about the safety of the jabs and the terrible disease called covid.

Ever.
Doctors and nurses are as politically gullible as anyone else, and like many here, believe any bullshit if it has the term “official” put in front of it.
When you have corrupt governance, a corrupted and bought and paid for MSM, then the word official means nothing, and probably , like Climate change, absolute official bollocks.

Which has been in discussion stage for a long time. It’s not a spur of the moment announcement made to divert the attention of the plebs.
Having the US, UK and Oz all agree to a significant collaboration is momentous, not taken lightly, and of vast strategic importance.
All of which counters the “look over there” theory. Particularly if you are saying the subs announcement was made to divert attention away from the Fathers’ Day scandal which was very recent.
Perhaps “coincidental” is more appropriate.
OK, so she’s on the public health bandwaggon. Not surprising.
It may be unjust to engineers, as your outrage suggests, Barry. Nevertheless some buildings do have terrible aircon and aircon maintenance. Legionnaire’s is just one nasty from it. And particulate pollution is something worth considering in any air environment. Geez, worst air I ever tried not to breathe was in the plaza before the Forbidden City in Beijing. Retreated to the hotel to spend two days inside to get away from it, to be then subjected to the TV being heavily blipped out during certain sensitive moments re Tiananmen Square in a foreign broadcast.
Decided I hated China. Was with Hairy there at his conference. Beijing’s Great Wall and the Summer Palace of the Empress were both good though. By 2019 Hairy said he’d better show me Shanghai soon in case things went belly up politically, for Social Credits had been introduced, so we did a stopover for three days. The old Art Deco was glorious. The new architecure was almost invariably Disneyesque.
Hot dogs done!
And a pangolin in every pot.
As someone pointed out upthread, this whole AUKUS deal has been under negotiation for ages, possible back as far as Trump.
But yes, the timing of the announcement has been felicitous indeed for Morrison.
A number of studies have found home indoor air can be worse than on the street. It is a good idea to carefully choose paint(low VOC) and keep the carpets in optimal condition. How many people pay attention to their aircon? BTW some of those air purifiers are worse because of ozone release. Open the windows!
I heard a well placed rumour today that the NSW government expects Covid to sweep through the population after restrictions are relaxed.
To cope with the load, extra helicopters and on-board paramedics have been organised for this November/December period. Many hospital wards have been closed to people with other medical problems, and reserved for Covid patients.
Yes, a rumour, but I’m quickly seeing other conspiracy theories play out in real life so perhaps it’s true.

You can prove things in mathematics, Struth, but in the real world we have to make do with evidence. And most evidence is reported rather than observed. Some sources are manifestly untrustworthy, the msm and government being prime examples. I gave up trusting either long ago. But some medics have looked relatively honest and relatively well informed. I don’t trust anybody, I was trained to watch out for deception, particularly self-deception, and to check everything I could. I have learnt to look for self-interest and the warped reality of the zealot.

“Pick up any embryology textbook for medical students,” the pontiff continued. “By the third week after conception, all the organs are already there, all of them, even the DNA … It’s a human life!”
“This human life must be respected, this principle is so clear!” he added.”
***
Which human life?
The human conceived 3 weeks ago because only now do they now have human organs, or the newly conceived human who has their own unique DNA from conception?
He knows that from conception the DNA is unique to each newly created human being.
He also knows that not all human being are born with all organs yet they are still human being’s, not to be denied the sanctity of human life.
In this announcement he’s reconstructed that filthy old slippery slope back down to hell.
Re indoor air quality – the irony is that the greenies have been campaigning to make homes and buildings hermetically sealed because it reduces the need for evil aircon and other heating and cooling methods, all of which produce debbil debbil CO2.
Every time the MSM runs one of those ‘how to reduce your energy bills’ articles, Item 1 is stop up the draughts. Fresh air is the enemy. Making energy affordable so that we can still open a window now and then in winter (or summer) has never been on the agenda.
I daresay most of us have worked in buildings and stayed in hotels where it is impossible to get any fresh air into the room, even in an emergency such as during a power failure. I vividly recall being trapped at work in an office in summer where the aircon stopped working and it was over 40C inside when we finally rebelled and walked out. It was considerably cooler outside.
Putting people in hotel rooms for quarantine without access to fresh air is asking for trouble, no matter how good the systems are.
This is one of the dumbest pieces of self-harm the thoroughbred racing industry has ever inflicted on itself:
Jamie Kah has been banned from riding for a total of five months with the Victorian Racing Tribunal again penalising the star rider on Friday for her part in last month’s illegal Airbnb gathering at Mornington.
Last season’s record-breaking champion rider is not permitted to ride again until the last week of January next year with the VRT noting her actions in providing false evidence to stewards over who attended the gathering was worthy of an additional two-month ban.
VRT chairman Judge John Bowman said the tribunal considered the charges of attending the illegal gathering, for which she received three months, and for providing false and/or misleading evidence as being separate charges that required separate sanctions.
Judge Bowman said: ‘’The bottom line is we are of the opinion that a period of two months suspension should be imposed for this charge under (ARR) 232 (i) and be cumulative in its entirety from the period of three months suspension imposed by the stewards in relation to AR 232 (b), thus the total period of suspension for both will be five months.’’
In announcing the penalty, Judge Bowman noted:
‘’You have an unblemished record in respect to this or any other serious offence.
‘’You are highly successful and, in fact, won the award for riding the most metropolitan winners in the 2020-21 season.
‘’As submitted by (Kah’s barrister) Mr (Damian) Sheales, you have created a large amount of positive, widespread interest in racing.
‘’Apart from your obviously outstanding ability, the manner in which you presented yourself brought a lot of favourable attention to the sport and the industry associated with it.’’
On Wednesday, the VRT found Kah guilty under ARR 232 (i) of providing stewards with false and/or misleading evidence after the tribunal found she held back information from stewards concerning jockey Mark Zahra’s attendance at the gathering.
The 25-year-old joins riders Mark Zahra and apprentice Celine Gaudray in being found guilty of the charge and having their original three-month bans extended. Zahra had one month added while Gaurday had two weeks tacked on with further suspended bans hanging over their heads for the next two years.
Fellow riders Ben Melham and Ethan Brown face a directions hearing on Friday morning into their charges of providing false and/or misleading evidence.

How could we even dream of submarine effectiveness without diversity! Diversity is strength! It is a transcendent imperative even!
Australia must invest in a radical new type of design of submersible craft that exploit the form of lady-bits.
Tom, could she appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal or equivalent?
In administrative law, depriving a person of their livelihood is absolutely the last resort, and is only done when something very bad indeed has gone down. I’m talking wilful or malicious negligence leading to someone being killed, that kind of thing. Kah’s ‘offences’ are trivial in this context.
What is it about sports administrators that makes them behave like tyrants?
My sister went over to the US as ‘no guns can’t we just get along’ peacenik. Lives their for 5 years. After 2 years she had a gun licence, a permit to carry, a piece and was professionally trained. Came back believing it was no big deal and it was part of life in DC. ?

From a foot soldier jockey:
First they came for Jamie Kah and I did nothing because if they can take out the most visible, successful rider then they can also take me out.
Then they came for Ben Melham and Ethan Brown and I did nothing because I’m still scared of the stewards.
Then they came for me and there was no-one left to support me.
End of solidarity amongst the jockey fraternity. No-one stands up for anyone else.
Australia must invest in a radical new type of design of submersible craft that exploit the form of lady-bits.
That would be as useful as a c&*t full of cold water.
VRT chairman Judge John Bowman
Hes a jumped up administrator, calling a mong like that a judge is how we got Lionel murphy on the high court.
And exactly what racing “law” has she broken?
If she had been punished via the courts then why does a sports administration grant itself the power to impose a bigger penalty?
Why doesn’t VicPol have the water cannons out clearing the unions off the streets today?
Or we cold go for the Karen class of subs.
It employs absolutely no stealth features at all, doesn’t even go under water. It instead barges loudly and aggressively straight up to its foe, delivering a preposterously unhinged shrewish tirade which inevitably finishes with “I demand to speak to the manager!”
Faces with such a foe even the most hardened naval captain will retreat just to get away from them, glad that they can get away from them while feeling a faint sense of pity for the man that was briefly blinded by fleeting beauty mistook for confidence what was in fact the mere tip of an iceberg of arrogance.
Where are all the feminists supporting Jamie Kah?
It is surely a Cause célèbre for them.

A few days ago, you disagreed with my comment that I thought Milley isn’t that bright. You made, what appears on the surface to be, a comment backed up with a reasonable argument in that no one at that level is stupid. Let me disagree with you and show why I think he’s not just stupid by dangerously so.
Let’s take the recent example that he spoke to his Chinese counterpart and attempted to settle them down as the regime was very concerned Trump was going to attack them.
Leave aside the fact that he shouldn’t be doing this because he takes orders from civilians.
Look at it from this perspective. What if, in fact, his Chinese counterpart was actually lying and rather than being concerned about Trump’s mental state, the Chinese regime was going to attack the US. Milley promising not to attack the Chinese unless he called his counterpart to inform him of US actions is shockingly dangerous.

Interesting paper, Duncanm. Good to see the ARC small grants being put to better use than we often see. The findings just make you cross your fingers and hope that this is not the century for another meteorite or undersea collapse. At least we have some idea of the geological coastal past on this girt-by-sea continent. Like Ice Ages, there’s an inevitability there, and coming much faster, but hey, carpe diem.
Two more regional NSW lockdowns will enter lockdown just a day after another two were put under stay at home orders last night.
The Hilltops local government area, which encompasses Young in south-western NSW, and the Glen Innes council, in the state’s north, will go into lockdown for seven days from 6pm tonight.
How can these communities survive these rolling lockdowns.
Pope Francis has always been adamantly opposed to abortion; pointing out that all the organs, indeed every thing are present even at three weeks after conception, is neither heretical nor unscientific. Unless you are uncharitablely reading in that he thinks DNA is not present before three weeks.
He was pointing out that abortion was murder even so close to the time of conception.

the transcript of what he said
George Weigel in an essay published on 14 July 2021 on Pope Francis and abortion.
Below the cliffs at HMAS Watson there are substantial boulders coughed up by the sea.
““Pick up any embryology textbook for medical students,” the pontiff continued. “By the third week after conception, all the organs are already there, all of them, even the DNA … It’s a human life!””

‘Pope Francis is spurring [?] bishops not to excommunicate fake catholic politicians over abortion … it would be too political.’
Struth was talking about facts above.
Here are some
This is the U.S., but is it any different here? It seems to me that your health is bottom of the agenda, if it’s on it at all.
While I don’t have much time for Morrison, he didn’t frame the Constitution or write the various HC judgements that underpin the Premiers’ powers. Australia has always been a federation of states which retained some degree of sovereignty over their own affairs. Hence they have retained their own governors, parliaments, borders, flags, etc.. The last 18 months have been a practical education in that hitherto neglected fact for many. Federation didn’t legally dissolve the states; rather, it transferred certain clearly delineated powers of the states to the newly formed Commonwealth.
The blame for our present situation in the first instance, then, needs to be placed squarely at the feet of the state premiers, who have used poorly drafted public health emergency powers as a pretext to terrorise citizens (mostly their minds, but soemtimes also physically) and strengthen their own power bases instead of acting reasonably in the common good (it’s a strange thing to find yourself in agreement with Waleed Ali).
Morrison does own the national cabinet, though. And he has been too weak in acceding to the premiers’ requests for financial assistance to maintain their lockdowns. No doubt political imperatives rather than principle explain that. The so-called vaccine passport is a terrible, devisive decision straight out of John Howard’s playbook. I hope it fails. I shall not be giving the Liberals my primary vote at the next election for that among many reasons.
We need a day of reckoning for all of this. A settling of accounts. If not, they’ll do it again.
The DNA of the unique, God created individual human being, exists at conception.
Dragging in the, ‘3 weeks for organs to form’, is dragging in the, “it’s only a clump of cells”, lie that got a world of Catholics to support abortions.
The politicians he’s telling bishops not to excommunicate are even way past the, “clump of cells” lie, right up to supporting After Birth “abortions”, aka Infanticide.
I forgot the quarantine debacle – Morrison owns that.
The Church’s position on abortion hasn’t moved an iota.
Only the uncharitable and/or malicious would claim otherwise.

Rupie posted this at Adam’s a couple of weeks ago and in light of the submarine announcement by Joe Biden I thought people might like to read it, if they didn’t see it first time around.

Morrison was indeed foolish to devolve that responsibility to the states.
Would he have had any control over people being forced to quarantine to move between states, or even because they had been potentially exposed to covid though?

As someone who, if only briefly, lived in the USA, I find the trust in government of Australians — fully revealed to me only in the past two years — is lemming-like and terrifying.
Because the founding of the USA was an act of liberation from colonial tyranny, its Constitution is primarily about protecting the individual from government overreach — an utterly alien concept in Australia, where shoppers rush to unload their personal data into government/big tech monitors via QR code stations in shopping centres..

Yep. And among the comments are some suggesting it is used frequently in hospitals. Similar to what I would not be surprised happens here, where some suggestion is that vaccinated people with Covid get IVM while the unvaccinated heathen are denied any treatment if they have the Covid. People think they can flee to the countryside and escape the government’s reach on this stuff, but no, nobody will be free. They subdued the cities, now they’re turning to the countryside.
More felicitous for the Biden Administration. AUKUS has significantly papered over the Afghanistan debacle – and advanced the US foreign policy position on China.
It’s instructive that China’s official and shrill semi-official English language public response has focussed on:
1) the strategic implications for Running Dog Australia and a pointed dismissal of any possible normal relations with the Morrison Administration;
2) concern that other middle powers will also want nuclear boats (Hi Japan, S Korea, and India).
But it hasn’t included any reference to ‘after Afghanistan, who could trust the US as an ally’.
The answer might be worrying for Team Xi.

50% -> lockdown city hard until 80%
60% -> broaden lockdowns to regional areas
65% -> lockdown a rural area – introduce rural to the concept
70% -> lockdown more rural areas

Push to make sexual consent education compulsory in Australian curriculum to stem assaults
Stephanie* was only in her mid-teens when her older and more experienced boyfriend pushed her to watch porn and perform “increasingly demeaning” sex acts.
“He was very pushy,” Stephanie said.
“I didn’t know what was going on. I was never taught about consent at school.”
Hmmm yeeeessss school is the exact place we should have kids taught about sexual behavior.
Sexual assault survivors and advocates say consent education needs to be compulsory, explicitly about intimate relationships and taught much earlier in all Australian schools.
And with the Australian curriculum undergoing its once-in-a-six-year review, they believe the opportunity for change is now.
Whom ever knew sexual assault had advocates? Great editorial oversight ABCcess.
In February 2021, then-university student Chanel Contos asked on Instagram, “have you or has anyone close to you ever been sexually assaulted by someone who went to a single sex school in Sydney?”
In the six months since then, her website, “Teach Us Consent”, has received more than 6,000 testimonies and about 43,000 people have signed her Petition For Consent To Be Included In Australian Schools’ Sex Education Earlier.
Somebody put a sexual topic on reddit and asked for stories… This is the “Dear Penthouse, I never thought it could happen to me” level of research.
“I really thought that sexual assault looks like somebody jumping out from behind a bush in a park and sexually assaulting you,” she said.
“I didn’t know sexual assault could look like somebody’s pushing you and pushing you and pushing you until you change your mind.
“And just because you’ve agreed in the end doesn’t mean that you’ve consented because in your mind it is still no, you still don’t want to do it. But you just feel like you have to do it because they’re hounding you for it.”
I wonder if they can move onto vaccination consent for politicians and Chief health officers??
And in relation to the last line, you continue to say no….
“Children as young as 10 are getting their sex education from mainstream pornography, the vast majority of which depicts aggressive, non-consensual, violent, and degrading behaviour, and we’re not stepping in to provide them with a reality check,” Ms Foster said.
“Through our inaction, we’re putting young people in harm’s way and stealing their futures in the process.”
aggressive, non-consensual, violent, and degrading behaviour
Given at least 2 of those criteria are actually illegal to depict then wouldnt the answer be to report that material?
Dr Fisher said teaching sexual education and consent in Australian schools remained a “mixed bag”, with states often unable to mandate it in private schools.
“We have upwards of half of our kids going to private and Catholic schools,” he said.
” … Then who’s holding [the private schools] to account to make sure every Australian is getting consent education?
The state school mongs havent worked out why people choose to put their kids in private education.
And finally whats the example they give of why teachers should be teaching consent in schools??
Penny* was not even a teenager when a teacher started taking a special interest in her.
“I was someone who had a rough home life, and he played on those vulnerabilities,” she said.
“He started contacting me out of hours, taking me out to lunch. Helping me with my homework.”
Penny said her predator became almost like a father figure. But he had other things in mind.
“At first, it was minor things, like kissing on the head,” she said.
“Then, when I was older, it progressed to touching and groping my bottom and breasts.
“The thing about grooming is he had coerced me into thinking that it was normal, and it was OK.”
Penny said consent was not something she heard spoken about at school.
“I don’t actually remember knowing the word consent until I was maybe in like 11 or 12,” she said.
“Consent is the awareness of your own power over yourself. You have a right to say no.
“I did say no in the end. It took a while. And, honestly, that knowledge came from television shows and movies because we weren’t taught it.”
FFS the ABCcess had devolved so far even their slanted hit pieces are monuments to own goal idiocy..
Well fisked TFM.

Yes Roger, this is the element of Morrison’s performance that I am critical of. I, in no way, absolve the Premiers of the vast majority of the blame here, but the people who are suffering are looking to their PM for the slightest spark of hope.
We see none. What we see is someone who appears to be of similar mind in most accounts, even if he’s not.
Whether he has the power to influence state restrictions is slightly irrelevant. Vocally standing up for the rights of his countrymen, and giving them at least the illusion that they belong to a single nation, would give them something. Vocal support of wanting to get back to pre-2020 life, would be better.
Everywhere one looks, a politician (no matter the flavour) wants to push some shit in your arm, and fill your future with QR code’s and random police checks.
Nah, Morrison’s not a leaders bootlaces.
As for me aligning with Waleed Aly, any alignment stops at the issues I highlighted in a recent post.

Exactly. Nothing to do with the virus. All about the experimental drug uptake.
The ABC never changes.
A story today with a breathless heading about a private school teacher arrested with vile stuff involving minors on his computer. They would never flag a government school teacher in that fashion: they probably wouldn’t report the charges at all.
And here is the background at the end of their latest piece of outrage on the Porter blind trust brouhaha”
he former attorney-general sued the ABC and journalist Louise Milligan in March over a story about an historical rape allegation that had been made against an unnamed minister.
Mr Porter revealed himself as the subject of the allegations but strenuously denied any wrongdoing.
Months later, he decided to discontinue the defamation action against the ABC and Ms Milligan.
No damages were paid following the settlement of the case, although the ABC paid $100,000 in mediation costs.
Notice that they don’t mention that, as part of the settlement, they conceded that (1) they did not men to imply that Porter committed the offenes (pull the other one!); (2) they could not prove the assertions to whether the criminal or the (lesser) civil standard of proof. They make it sound as if Porter just conceded.

“Victorian construction workers protest against government restrictions and mandates

Real Rukshan
Highlights from Victorian construction workers protesting on Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. The protest was a part of a series of demonstrations by construction workers in response to new workplace restrictions.
These street lunchroom protests are a being claimed as a coordinated action by unions in response to restrictions on lunchrooms, so therefore the workers are only protesting during their defined break periods by having lunch/smoko on the street.
Union leaders have said these are not protests, and are just workers having their lunch on the streets because of the inability to work within the CHO directions. The actions have caused disruptions to the road and transport network within the city and outer suburbs.
Speaking to people from these worksites off camera, they have a mix of views and concerns, mandatory vaccination is one of them (however the unions don’t publicly support them on this matter).
Victorian workers have only a few days left until they will no longer be allowed on worksites without providing proof they have had at least 1 dose of the vaccine.
Some workers claim they are also protesting against the unions for not backing their workforce against government overreach into their ability to make free informed decisions about their decision to vaccinate.

I understand that, Rosie. The Beloved, a fine Christian man, is vaccinated with AZ. Not offered a choice, and suffering from a variety of co-morbidities, he made a decision to go ahead.
His conscience was not exercised in the acceptance of the vaccine. Mine, however, has been. I don’t know why this is so, but there it is. Perhaps it has something to do with my resistance to submission in previous tests of faith. Everyone’s walk is different.
And it gave him an opportunity to talk about faith and the vaccine with someone today, quite unexpected, but he was ready. Mysterious ways they say. 🙂

There used to be a site called Sahul Time from Monash uni which was an interactive map based around Australia where you could see sea level from the past; so 23000 yrs ago sea level was 135 meters BELOW what it is today. 6 million years ago it was 110 meters ABOVE what it is today. The site had some problems and is being redeveloped; this is a typical image:
