I thought the nurse – perhaps the doctor and definitely Topher Field carried the speeches. (IMO Topher’s speech was a call to arms – of sorts.) I missed most of the lady explaining the Constitution, due to crappy comms. How did she go over?

Also it was clear from observing that the gold coast protest was 100% under the thumb and control of the police. They moved through the crowd like a hostess at a party.

A hostess with guns.

Apart from the uniformed officers I saw two plains clothes middle aged women stalking around the edges of the relatively small crowd guns on hip.

Polair hovered around the small tame gathering at one point.

Obviously very tightly controlled and the organizers have been given the rules.

I went to a Brisbane protest a few months ago when things were still tense. There was a phalanx of unhappy looking cops standing in line at the back of the crowd watching everyone, trying to look intimidating. A curious thing was I was less put off by them and that show of force than what I observed today.

The Solomon Islands advise the inscrutable dry cleaners to go fuck themselves (the NT News):

Three bodies have been found after Chinese properties were burned and destroyed in the Solomon Islands, where Australian troops and police have been sent to stop days of deadly riots.

The cause for the unrest is not known. Oh wait:

Food, fuel and cash are in short supply now, after a small protest on Wednesday quickly descended into a violent free-for-all.

Poor Honiara residents joined anti-government protesters to rampage through the shattered glass and burnt-out remains of businesses for things to eat or sell. “The situation is very tense and anything could happen anytime,” said Audrey Awao, a working mother who worried about supply shortages.

For three days, angry mobs demanded Sogavare’s removal over his government’s links to China.
Many Solomon Islanders believe their government is corrupt and beholden to Beijing and other foreign interests.

“Now PM need to step down”, a self-employed 32-year-old who gave his name as Selson told AFP.

“That’s the demand for all citizens of the Solomon Islands.”

probably a lesson in there for someone, somewhere.

Married far-right firebrand Éric Zemmour gets chief aide pregnant

Éric Zemmour, the hard-right pundit who has broken into the French presidential race, was facing scandal yesterday with a report that his campaign director, who is 35 years his junior, is expecting his child.

Closer, a celebrity magazine, put Zemmour, 63, and Sarah Knafo, 28, on its cover, with the headline “He is going to be a daddy in 2022”, with the story saying: “The happy event is expected in May 2022, just after the second round of the presidential election.”

Knafo, a senior civil servant who has shaped Zemmour’s bid for the Élysée Palace, was introduced to the public in September when Paris Match published a cover picture of her locked in an embrace with her long-married mentor on a Mediterranean beach.

Zemmour, who is running in second or third place in opinion polls, although he has not formally declared his candidacy, failed to gain a court order to halt publication on privacy grounds.

He attacked Closer on Twitter, saying: “Whatever happens . . . I will jealously and fiercely defend my private life and that of those close to me.” His lawyers said he would “hit Closer through its wallet” with a suit for breach of privacy.

Yeah the crowd size was big enough for it to be a success optically.

Look it wasn’t a failure people went and there was enthusiasm and it was well organized. Though no idea if they ever even marched or not.
But like I say if you wanted to crush the momentum of a movement going viral this is close to how you’d do it. There was a lot of staid middle class people with their kids there, some looked pretty grim as we left and old mate was on stage talking about the ‘fucking negative energy man’. The protest still seemed very geared to appealing to activists and radicals that it was built on. Which is expected.

I guess they need to change gears now if they want capitalize on last weeks success and go to the next level of size and acceptance.

I see what he’s saying but the people with ‘weird messages’ and the ‘far right’ built this entire movement. They were the ones getting the shit kicked out of them, arrested, harassed and terrorised but continued to turn up and build the small machine that now runs and promotes this stuff, while everyone else stayed home. They carved out the space that allows the middle to now operate in.

So MP Limberick isn’t just going to swan in now and order them liquidated now that there’s mainstream interest and it’s safe. Yes there needs to be a refocus and gear change, but throwing their activists under a bus is where the non left always fails.

I was hoping that they wouldn’t decide to try to blend in thus giving the media the chance to focus on that one piece of ink and condemn the whole thing as “neo-Nazis”.
I suspect that’s what Limbrick is talking about – the real “far right”, not what the left wing propagandists of Fairfax/ABC label as “far right”.

A desperate Dutch government, besieged by massive anti-mandate protests on one side and soaring COVID cases on the other, has ordered the night-time closure of bars, restaurants and most stores.

Most of the train drivers I know (who have sat just centimetres above 2-3 sets of the things for up to 14 hours* at a time for the vast majority of their working lives) are pushing their late 60s to 70s, and their worst generalised health issues come from being fat, being old or long-term smokers.

Well, by doing all the things that governments actually do when they centralize power in an authoritarian way: banning all other parties, criminalizing dissent, creating a vast surveillance state, and siccing a secret police on the population to inflict arbitrary arrest, torture, and other violence. In other words, some of the exact things we’ve seen largely coming out of right-wing politicians over the past twenty years at least

Diogenes, they are fudging the facts to try to prove a stupid point.
Here is another source:
..

In the German Reich, smallpox vaccinations were organized by the state. A mandatory vaccination throughout the empire was introduced in 1874, which was continued in the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) and the German Democratic Republic (GDR) until 1982/1983. From 1935, health departments were responsible for vaccinations. In the GDR, immunization was tightly organized: The state made great efforts to achieve high vaccination rates. Responsibilities were clearly defined at all levels and for all ages. While vaccination was initially mandatory only at the regional level, the legally mandated immunization schedule later contained compulsory vaccinations, e.g., against measles. In the beginning there were mandatory vaccinations in the FRG at the Länder level. Since 1961, the Federal Epidemics Act has impeded obligatory vaccinations. Instead, voluntary vaccinations based on recommendations were stressed. Since the 1980s, vaccinations have been shifted from the public health service sector to office-based physicians. Today, public health authorities offer mainly supplementary vaccinations. In 2007, protective immunizations were introduced as compulsory benefits of the statutory health insurance (SHI). Recently, the German federal states developed a National Vaccination Plan to support immunization strategies.

..
The sharticle glommed onto smallpox because there was a smallpox outbreak in 1918.By 1935, there wasn’t.

It’s pretty clear that the research community doesn’t really know a lot about how the body really reacts to the mRNA vaccines. The basic science is completely missing.

Quoting from the article:

However, much more basic science research is needed to determine the potential role idiotype-based immunoregulation of both humoral and cell-mediated responses may play both in antiviral efficacy and in unwanted side effects of both SARS-CoV-2 infection and the vaccines that protect us from it.

How they can say with a straight face that these therapies are safe is beyond me.

In the late nineties at a particular metropolitan university, there used to be issues with the homeless finding their way into warm places of an evening. Turns out the lock on the “plant room” door on the top floor of a particular building was not locking. Therein was a door to which led to the roof, which housed various microwave amongst other transmission and reception antennae/dishes.

I recall that particular Thursday having beers at the uni bar with some mates and none of us could figure out where this absolutely delicious smell of marinated, seasoned garlic lamb kebab was coming from. That noticeably smoky, lemony-vinegar kind of tang with a hint of fennel. Turns out the final act of homeless guy the previous evening was discovering a particular dish shielded the wind as well as was nice and warm to sleep in.

As a result, in the waning years of German democracy, the Weimar government suspended compulsory vaccination in practice, even if it was still officially the law of the land.

My First Protest Rally…

Attended the Darwin rally today. I was a bit of a wimp and did a drive by first to check that it wasn’t too scary.

It was pretty laid back, very diverse cross section of people from families with kids in strollers, through young people, middle aged and seniors.

Started with rendition of ‘We are one, we are many, we are Australian’, then young girl read some stories that had been shared in social media, invited people from the crowd to come up and tell their stories. A few did, mainly about losing their job for refusing to get vaccinated.

Then a youngish bloke talked about bad media coverage of the NT over the last week, especially Gunner’s rant about ‘anti vaxxers’. Talked about what is happening in remote communities near Katherine, noted that vaccinations had gone from around 20% to 100% and that it was highly unlikely that everyone consented without coercion. Joked that six months ago he’d been a rabid left wing greenie and now he was a right wing extremist. Noted that a lot of businesses disagreed with the mandate and gave a website to check for who these are (which I’ve forgotten).

None of the hijacking by indigenous activists that KD warned about.

Then we proceeded to march down the Esplanade. Stopped at the Cenotaph where they played the Last Post and had a minutes silence. Then proceeded on to Civic Park.

Chants while marching:
* Terminate the mandate
* Coercion is not consent
* My body my choice
* Don’t poison our kids
* Gunner’s gotta go

Not sure I liked the last one. I’m no fan of Michael Gunner and would agree in general that he needs to go, but in the context of the rally, I’m not sure Lia Finnichiaro, the opposition leader, would change anything.

Two things I found interesting. First , while there was a police presence, they kept well back from the rally, except for when the march crossed roads where they stopped the traffic so we could proceed. Some of them looked a bit disconcerted when the groups around me thanked them as we walked past, while some of them smiled and waved at us (I wonder if the second group will still have a job on Monday?).

Second thing is that I didn’t see any media presence at all. Checked the ABC website when I got home and you’d never know there has been a rally at all. Not sure about the TV news as we can’t get a signal in bad weather.

Oh, last thing. I’m not good at estimating numbers, but I think there would easily have been 1000 people there, which is pretty amazing for Darwin.

Dr. Tour is renowned for his work on nanocars which are molecular machines themselves, where he has received distinguished recognition and awards. I ask the question whether such molecular sophisticated systems can arise through evolution through a series of point mutations to the extent that they just happen to occur in Eukaryotes!

Nanotechnology: Hacking Humans, Its Potential, and Real Risks
Jun 30, 2019

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsGvcejqzb4
Science fiction has become a reality with recent developments toward biohacking through nanotechnology. Soon, science and industries may soon realize the potential of human hacking… but at what risk versus reward? Medical nanotechnology is one of these such topics. Many experts believe nanotechnology will pave the way for a bright, new future in improving our wellbeing. Yet, at the core of this biohacking are machines and as we’ve seen with other technologies — there are very real risks of malicious intent. In this video, we share some of the applications being developed combining nanotechnology and medicine. We also look at the potential risks found in the practice and how we may mitigate issues before they’re problematic. We also share how companies can reduce security flaws and curb public perception so the nanotechnology industry can flourish without major setbacks. Want to learn more about this budding area of science and medicine?

Generally I am not against such terms (it’s not unreasonable to me, prior to engagement, to tell people there are expectations of certain vaccinations for doctors or nurses, etc), but this lady had an allergic reaction, attested in writing by her TCM practitioner and her GP.

After all – she was a secretary, not a nurse, M.D. or a care giver.

It is so absurd the majority declared her anaphylaxis didn’t count because she has her own opinion and did her own research.

Possibly not, since it was a Minority Government.
If that was the case, then they paid a high price.
The Country was destroyed by May 1945 and the successor Governments relegislated Vaccine Mandates anyway.

Regarding the Solomon Islands, I can’t claim to have a full understanding about what’s going on there, I’ve never visited the place, but from what I understand about the riots it is the locals are protesting against their government’s involvement with China and the Belt and Road plan.

The rioters are attacking Chinese owned businesses in Honiara, several Chinese ethnic citizens have been killed.

My question is, why are Australian military being sent there to restore calm, wouldn’t it be more logical that China should send their PLA to restore order in their vassal state?

Captured & tortured, she was kept manacled both hand and foot for Ten months, her treatment was so severe in the Gestapo prison, she was remembered by the other prisoners for her uncontrollable crying when she was alone in her cell at night.

In Dachau, she was made to kneel, then shot through the back of the neck until dead, specifically denied the presence of a priest of any religion or denomination.

1. Because the PLA are shit at it;
2. Because they have zero naval capability, particularly at distance; and
3. Because they would have to send a gazillion troops in to ‘restore order’ to all six main islands in the Solomons chain, as well as the hundreds of smaller islands in the archipelago.

The slightest hint of difficulty in doing this would result in immense loss of face, and all the talk of invading and conquering Taiwan – which is like 25 Iwo Jimas on top of each other with 24 million people in it who’ve been preparing for this exact circumstance for decades, would go softly into the bin.

Colour me cynical, but Tanya Plibersek wouldn’t be thinking of a challenge to the Labor leadership, would she?

Tanya and Michael: ‘Okay, you’ve been to jail, fine’
Jane Cadzow

View all comments

Federal Labor MP Tanya Plibersek, 51, is married to Michael Coutts-Trotter, 56, NSW’s most senior state bureaucrat. Before they met in 1990, Coutts-Trotter served time in jail for conspiracy to import heroin. They have three children.

Tanya: Michael and I met at university. I was 20. He was 24. On our first date we went to a Thai restaurant on Oxford Street in Sydney. We had a really great talk and by the time we’d finished dinner, I knew I was in love. The whole story came out that night. Not only about going to jail, but about his drug addiction. He was going to three Narcotics Anonymous meetings a week in those days. From the beginning I thought, “Wow, what an achievement to have got his life back on track.” I was raised to believe forgiveness and redemption are possible, and should be encouraged, and that everybody’s better than the worst thing they’ve ever done.

Look, our relationship hasn’t always been perfect. There have been tough patches. I have been disappointed and angry at him at times. But I never thought he was at risk of relapsing into drug use. He didn’t even take a Panadol for probably the first 10 years I knew him. Michael is an extraordinarily disciplined person. He’s completely reliable, emotionally available and supportive to me and his children. He’s said no to work promotions in the past because of the impact it would have on our family.

“I don’t feel like I need him by my side every moment to complete me – I love catching up with my friends – but I look forward to his company.”

Our life is super busy, but our kids are getting a bit older now [they’re 20, 16 and 11] and we’ve got a well-oiled machine. When I’m in Sydney we try to go for a walk together every morning. That’s a good way of having a bit of time together and talking through what’s going to happen that day or that week. We also talk about what’s in the news. Ideas. What we’re reading. I always enjoy his observations. He’s funny. Very funny. We do have some no-go areas for discussion.

He is a completely proper, old-fashioned, Westminster-style public servant, so he never tells me anything that he shouldn’t tell me, and likewise there are things I don’t tell him about my work. We’ve had some huge arguments over the years about policy issues, though. He claims that I once tried to get out of the car on the Anzac Bridge because we were having such a blazing row about electricity privatisation.

We’ve got similar tastes. For instance, we’d both say that [1994 Russian film] Burnt by the Sun is our favourite film. We both love travelling. One annoying thing about him: because he’s so disciplined, you can’t go on holidays and laze about and, you know, drink cocktails in the middle of the day. He’ll be like a whippet on a short leash, straining to go for a run or do something constructive. He’s not great at relaxing.

I don’t feel like I need him by my side every moment to complete me – I love catching up with my friends – but I look forward to his company so much. Like, I’d actually rather go supermarket shopping with him than to Disneyland with anyone else. You know when you go to functions – work dinners or a wedding or something – and they put you and your partner on opposite sides of the table and make you socialise with other people? I quite often swap the name tags so I get to sit next to him. He’s just a great human being.

MICHAEL: My first impression of Tanya at university was that she was beautiful, and super smart. She had a point of view about everything, which I found incredibly attractive. I know it sounds sappy, but I definitely fell in love with her on our first date. That night, we rather chastely lay in bed in a spare room at her brother’s flat and talked all night.

I wanted her to know straight up about my criminal history. I was more worried about how her parents would react, actually, but they were remarkable: welcoming and generous from the get-go. It was like I’d told them I liked my tea with milk and no sugar. It was, “Okay, you’ve been to jail, fine.”

There’s a kindness and a warmth and a depth to Tanya. I think she enjoys being a local member as much as she’s enjoyed being a federal minister. She loves the chance to be able to do useful things for people. We’ve got a number of older people who live near us, and in lockdown she was cooking meals for the neighbours. Wherever we’ve lived, she’s been the woman in the wide-brimmed hat who waters the street trees to make sure they stay alive during a drought. She’s the first person to run up to confused-looking tourists who are struggling with a map of Sydney.

Tanya loves cooking. I like washing-up. It is actually the most perfect yin-yang. I have a passion for cleanliness, but I’ve learnt from her to welcome a bit of chaos and disorder into my life. People drop in all the time. The kids’ friends stay overnight. It’s home when Tanya is here. It’s slightly less than home when she’s not, but she’s brilliant at projecting herself back into the family from wherever she is.

When she’s away for work, she talks to each of the kids a couple of times a day at least. She knows the detail of what’s happening in their lives, so even when she’s not here, she’s involved.

“It’s home when Tanya is here. It’s slightly less than home when she’s not, but she’s brilliant at projecting herself back into the family.”

With Tanya, what you see is what you get. How she is on television is how she is at home. She’s thoughtful, articulate, composed. She never loses her cool in an argument. I will end up incoherent and spluttering, and she will be Zen-like. It’s just absolutely infuriating.

She met me after I’d come out of jail. She had nothing to do with that part of my life, but people have used it to attack her on social media, criticising her character because she’s with me. I do think it is something of an impediment in her career, whereas I get a lot of good will from people when they find out I’m married to Tanya.

It’s been a huge advantage to me for many years. I’ve always been immensely proud of her. Would I like her to be prime minister one day? Yes! Working as a public servant, I meet a lot of politicians, and by and large they’re very well-motivated, hard-working, caring people. But I think Tanya is extraordinary. She’s the smartest person I know, and has the soundest judgment. She’s the real deal. So I’d love to see her end up in The Lodge.

If reef coral has expired due to dreadful heat why is this business going so well?

Monsoon Aquatics wins Australian Exporter of the Year Award (Sky News, 27 Nov)

Monsoon Aquatics’ Founding Director Daniel Kimberley says he was “overwhelmed” when he found out his company won the Australian Exporter of the Year Award.

“It’s a huge deal for a relatively small business like ours; started from nothing 13 years ago, underneath our house in Darwin,” Mr Kimberley told Sky News Australia.

Monsoon Aquatics exports coral and marine life, and they have permits which allows them to “sustainably harvest coral and fish” from waters in Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland.

Well done to them, but the dead reef is clearly in good shape if the government is letting someone harvest it.

No real evidence the new variant is actually ‘vaccine resistant’ or that it represents a major health risk.
Patten knows nothing about it, she’s not a doctor or a scientist.
At what point does she think taking back personal responsibility for your health should happen?
Nothing stopping the government spending money on hospitals that needs new legislation is there?

Hoping omicron is a storm in a teacup.

Cathedral of Woke.

Critics: Plans for Notre Dame Will Create a ‘Politically Correct Disneyland’ (27 Nov)

“It’s as if Disney were entering Notre Dame,” Paris-based architect and critic Maurice Culot told The Telegram after seeing the plans.

“What they are proposing to do to Notre Dame would never be done to Westminster Abbey or Saint Peter’s in Rome. It’s kind of a theme park and very childish and trivial, given the grandeur of the place.”

The proposed changes, which have been reviewed by the publication, include replacing the cathedral’s confessional boxes, altars, and sculptures with sound and light effects that they say will create “emotional spaces,” and adding modern art murals.

A “discovery trail,” with an emphasis on Africa and Asia, is also planned, and quotes from the Bible are to be projected on walls in various languages. The final part of the trail will focus on the environment.

Maybe they could repaint the Taj Mahal in rainbow colours next.

Calli,
Surprisingly, Nine News gave it a fair run last night.
They were even reasonable in their narrative.

“…Tho there’s no denying that the vast majority were peaceful families, and that includes children.”

Yes, they only referred to “tens of thousands” (not strictly wrong), but the report did say “an extraordinary mass of Victorians” and “whether it’s thousands, tens of thousands…or more”.

The MSM are whores. Fullstop. Weather vanes of an ocean going variety. That Nine News was willing to give it even a slightly fair hearing, indicates that they are reading the room correctly and that the protests are having an affect.

They did conflate the search for the ‘violent’ protesters from earlier in the year, at the end of the report (as I understand other channels did). This shows that we are not entirely there yet, and that the media (as a whole) is being centrally coordinated.

P.S. We Cats were watching this Reporter do his business in Fitzroy Gardens. He wasn’t very far away. He interviewed the ‘Ku Klux Dan’ man, but it obviously didn’t make the cut.

Want some good news in the morning for a change?

Husband insists on watching breakfast TV. Drives me mad. But Ch7 somehow accidentally got a REAL epidemiologist, & not a tame local one. This prof is from STh Africa & I guess they thought that was a scoop.

Unfortunately for them he told them that the scare re the new Omicron seems largely unfounded! Firstly, he said, anecdotal evidence from local GPS suggest it is a very mild variant. This he argues, is what we would expect – evolution, he said, viruses generally follow that route. The Ch 7 hosts burbling by this stage…….but….but… He then said it may be ( Geert Van Den Bossche argues though he did not cite him) that it may be an emerging more severe variant – but that is unlikely.

And should we be closing our borders surely, they quivered…. “ Not really,” he smiled as he replied, “ Delta was already in over 50 countries in days…..probably this one is already everywhere in the same way”. Or words to that effect…..

It made my day! At last, inadvertently, an expert who was not in the pay of governments and/or Big Pharma.

Interestingly, he also surmised (interviewers we’re so stunned they couldn’t stop him) that the variants tended to be nurtured in the immune-compromised. Hadn’t heard that before. Don’t ask me his name – didn’t catch it – but he was the real deal. Shocked the pants off the interviewers who were all ready for the Fear Porn with the advent of a new variant.

From the WIP this one is scarily accurate.

Drivers could be fined £40 for using their engine to defrost car windscreens – warning (24 Nov)

Motorists may be hit with a £20 fixed penalty notice for leaving their engine idling on a street. The penalty could rise to £40 if the charge is not paid within a specific time frame.

“By minimising car idling on our daily commutes, school drop-offs and simply waiting in traffic, we can contribute less CO2 emissions.

Not allowed to unfreeze your windscreen because you’ll melt the planet too.

When I used to crew one of the track medical cars (aka ‘Victors’) at the V8 races in Adelaide, it was usually hot, and there was always a risk of a breakdown due to electrical drain etc.

These cars had to *instantly* respond to on track crashes, so we would leave them idling all day – and the fuel gauge would not even drop off full.
