They’re fucked in a all out war.

In a way, they’re a bit like the Huns in The Great War parts one and two.
Provided they can walk or drive to the war, they’re monsters.
But if they hit a body of water too big to build a bridge over, they are in trouble.

Extreme Authoritarian Laws Proposed in New York!
Awaken With JP = Published December 28, 2021

Rumble — These laws would give the governor tyrannical power to detain people suspected of posing a health risk – indefinitely! No trial involved. Luckily this main bill was stricken down on December 22, 2021. These proposed bills are still important to know about because they signify the direction that authoritarian leaders are trying to take society.

I keep going back to a point I’ve made before. Most of Chinese oil supplies come from the middle east. This makes their military extremely vulnerable as a military on a wartime footing consumes immense amount of energy. Even if they managed to resupply from elsewhere shipping transport has to go through very narrow sea lanes to make its way to Chinese ports. This makes it a turkey shoot for subs. They’re fucked in a all out war.

Which is why I keep coming back to the point that China knows all too well such a war will be devastating for it. There is no rationale for undertaking such an attack. I think AUKUS is not even about us getting nuke subs to counter the China threat it is about establishing a base of operations for US subs(Perth) to enable blockade in the Indian Ocean. The same is true with the B1B Lancers at Darwin, excellent strike bomber that could threaten Chinese navy ships in the Indian Ocean.

The counterpoint: China has a belt and road all the way to a navy capable port in Pakistan. I doubt it would transport sufficient oil from the Middle East via that route but it is a clever idea on their part because it gives them some leverage in the Gulf. There are also plans to build a canal through the Thailand peninsula. If that happens forget about the Malacca Strait but it is doubtful that canal will accommodate the huge oil container ships.

JC this China threat business which Morrison fallen for hook line sinker is rubbish. China will wait for some of those stan countries to go belly up and occupy on the grounds of maintaining peace and order. That’s the only realistic scenario because that does give them access to some hydrocarbon resources but if IIRC it is only gas not oil.

I doubt very much that they were Anchor What’s view.

I didn’t see the link but he did put this afterwards:

John Sopel, after seven years as BBC correspondent in the USA. No mention of Democrat manoeuverings in the four years plus while Trump was running for and being Pres, or since. Some reservations about Biden’s ability to do the job but no condemnation of him either. No problems with the direction the USA admin and the house/senate are heading.

So it was Sopel saying this BS. My eyes misted up and I didn’t read any further.

A new Department of Defence report on China’s military power said that China “has the largest navy in the world” and is “the top ship-producing nation in the world by tonnage.”
Experts said that “their shipbuilding capacity is a huge advantage for them in a protracted conflict with the United States,” which lacks the same ability to quickly build new ships.
With the ability to turn out ships faster than any other country, China could build up its force or rapidly replace its naval losses in a conflict.

According to the latest IHS Markit Maritime & Trade newbuilding data, Chinese shipbuilders picked up the lion’s share of shipbuilding contracts during the third quarter of 2021 with some 68% in terms of gross tonnage (GT), of all new orders in Q3 2021 being placed in China (see chart 1). Fuelled by rising demand for new containerships, over 60% of orders in GT terms contracted at Chinese shipyards in Q3 were of this vessel type. This compares to 50% if analysed on a global basis and is significantly up from the negligible levels seen prior to Q4 2020 (see chart 2).

When is this bloody global warming going to start???

You got it backwards. It is global warming causing freezing. I know this because the Pentagon told us so in 2004.

‘Humiliating’: 2004 Guardian Report Peddling Climate Doom By 2020 Frozen Out (27 Dec)

The Guardian published a report in 2004 sounding the alarm bells over a “secret report, suppressed by US defence chiefs” and obtained by sister newspaper The Observer. Here was the harrowing message, according to The Guardian: “[M]ajor European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a ‘Siberian’ climate by 2020.”

It’s now 2021, and major European cities are still intact and a Reuters report this year flushes The Guardian’s frets about a little ice age in Britain down the toilet. Reuters trumpeted: “Britain’s climate getting warmer, sunnier and wetter – Met Office.” Travel website Touropia has an updated report headlined, “25 Best Cities to Visit in Europe.” Even the waterway-dominated Venice, Italy is No. 17 on the list. Ouch.

Maybe the US defense department should stop trying to be woke green prophets.

US ship building:

A nation that was among the world’s leaders in commercial shipbuilding at key junctures in its history today builds less than 10 vessels for oceangoing commerce in a typical year.

China builds over a thousand such ships each year.

The entire U.S.-registered fleet of oceangoing commercial ships numbers fewer than 200 vessels, out of a global total of 44,000.

According to the Street Library:

When people take a book and leave a book, they create a cycle of generosity that allows them to share what they love with those around them.

This blog reminds me in some ways of the Street Library; a cyberspace version. Although Cat3 started out as a seamless transition from its predecessor, it went through some hurdles that derailed the site for a while. Having survived the obstacles, it has come through and now evolved into a different version, with some unique characteristics.

Like the Street Library, anyone who is interested can stop here to Take, Give and Share. It works because of the cycle of sharing – the giving and the taking. You can choose the comments you wish to scroll past, and the ones you want to stop and read. There are links that take you off the main course to read or watch or listen. In turn, one can give back by responding to other comments, or posting information and links for others to read, learn or enjoy. A sharing process that benefits all.

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.

I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!, Dr. Seuss

The Open Threads, as well as the threads related to posts, contain a range of comments that vary from the serious to the light-hearted, from the mood-downers to the mood-lifters. There are agreements and occasional disagreements. Debates and discussions. Opinions and verdicts. Rants and spurts of anger at the powers that be. Through it all, there is an underlying courtesy and respect to the site users. This is in keeping with the site policy where all are welcome. All, except d***heads.

Thank you, Adam, for setting up this blog and letting us have this free speech zone.

Thank you to all those who participate in the Take-Give-Share cycle in this Catallaxy Library.

Chinese Islands are sinking so only good for radar and missile umbrellas until, if things turn kinetic, US cruise missiles neutralise that.

https://tfiglobalnews.com/2020/11/09/china-tried-to-game-international-law-with-expensive-artificial-islands-but-they-are-already-sinking/

Apparently their aircraft generally are underpowered and plagued by engine reliability problems. Also one of their mainstay fighters I am informed has no capability to air to air refuel! I have little knowledge of their Navy or Army capabilities but there’s certain to be similar equipment issues there.

That said, the numbers they have even though the equipment may have shortfalls, means I wouldn’t discount the threat they pose. Personally I think they will avoid going kinetic at all costs, they will lose too much money and leverage. That’s not to say there may be an Arch Duke Ferdinand moment or some perceived sleight sends the brainwashed Nationalist population into a frenzy demanding war.

Look, I have great respect for military personnel but here’s the rub: the experts we hear about through the MSM are very often playing the clickbait game. If you are serious about learning from the experts forget about the MSM because it is there for an agenda that in no way reflects the broader views in the military. This is a post on Alex Berenson’s blog. I think it reflects the white hot anger of many of us towards Big Pharma, Big Tech & their government cronies:

I’m 48 going on 49. Some tread left, or so I hope. Lots of help from dozens – no, hundreds – of scientists and data analysts.

And I promise the billionaire boys this:

By the time I’m done the world will know what you knew and when you knew it. This isn’t about depopulation conspiracy theories; it’s about a drug – not a vaccine, this isn’t a vaccine by any reasonable definition – you rushed to market with the promise of zero liability and tens of billions of dollars in profits, a drug that looks worse by the week. It’s about risking the hearts of healthy kids to make morbidly obese adults feel a little better; it’s about getting the result you want in a clinical trial after a few months and blowing up the trial – for a drug that is supposed to be given to billions of people – and not once, but over and over.

So, yeah, I’m not going to forget. I don’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear, and I absolutely will not stop until the truth comes out.

Looking to get this does rather prove Struth’s point, however. As it is now perfectly clear that the “vaccines” are useless in terms of infection or spread, the only possible reason to look at getting one is to simplify life by bowing to obviously unreasonable demands. I do understand that in some cases it’s not quite as simple as that, but the end result is accepting defeat. And that doesn’t even take into account the potential health risks of the jab itself.

Firstly, anti-vaxxers increasingly believe in totalising worldviews whose logic is fictive, and built on a usually unconscious rejection of reason. This is to say, the links they see between phenomena are illusory, and the resulting worldview is structured like a work of fiction. By contrast, the majority of leftist worldviews are committed to reason and evidence. We don’t need to posit conspiracies to explain the evils committed by banks, fossil fuel companies and, yes, pharmaceutical corporations.

I’ve often read that China could take out US bases in and around the Pacific. That’s true. But wouldn’t the US take out every single Chinese port on the mainland? They could only reach American mainland ports on any scale through nukes. Really? If they did, the Chinese population would end up being no more than a 100 million tops.

The Chinese have made it quite clear they don’t think just in military assets vs. military assets. Systems are fragile, just look at the supply chain woes without any serious attempt to screw it up.

Fair enough, but please explain why would you or anyone else thinks this only applies on one side. I’m not sure who it was, but the commenter suggested that a war would also entail taking out infrastructure by attacking software. Okay, but why would that only apply on one side. Like, the Americans would be incapable of attacking Chinese software and putting them out of action? My guess is that the Americans would really fuck them on this score. We frequently hear about (likely) Chinese and Russian attacks on American software. We’re never going to hear what the US is up though because neither of these countries would fess up to it. Moreover, they likely have no idea what happened to them.
The US aren’t softcocks in this area of war.

In fact, the US is incomparable in this department, so the WE MAKE NAFTHINK crap is bullshit again. US manufacture of naval shipping is way above anything anyone else is currently making. The queues are massive……long snake like lines of people standing and waiting to be tested. I couldn’t believe me eyes.

Cassie, here on the northern beaches a swabbing and testing private pathology lab that contracts its services to NSW govt has closed down its swabbing operations for a few days because they are so far behind the pathology testing.
So fewer swabbing stations means bigger queues at public health stations eg hospital.

I only waited for 30 minutes yesterday, but it was Cooma.

Somewhere in between is the realistic view. Without the Bidenesque “We have nothing to fear from China, c’mon man” there’s a discussion to be had.

The biggest threat from China is cyber and political. They are emulating what the West has been doing for decades. It is a serious threat but on those fronts we are equally a serious threat to them. China is trying to create political alliances but isn’t having much luck and has seriously damaged its reputation with the bug, debt diplomacy, and making all manner of threats that have come to nothing.

After the recent military adventurism fiascos I’m not confident any nation wants to play the command and conquer games anymore. It’s not worth the cost.

A distinct lack of originality and creativity.

How would you categorize efficient mining and agricultural sectors? Would that be part of making stuff or it doesn’t count?

Mining in Australia is about 15% of GDP. Raw agriculture is about 5%.

Add 15% plus 5, plus manufacturing (about 12%) and we end up 32%. Australian mining and agri are extremely capital intensive, which means these sectors are very high tech. Australian industry is nothing to sniff at.

Now, you can force feed a sector like manufacturing in Australia, but that would require lots of subsidies, tariffs and quotas with our current labor market regulations and high energy prices. Favoring the sector this way would cause our living standards to falter because capital wouldn’t be allocated to efficient sectors, but actually away from them. Basically, we would be heading back to the (for some loons) nostalgic post war 40s. Is that what you would like to see?

It would seem reasonable that all of that would mean many making a u- turn on engagement with the CCP.
My thesis is that the opposite is occurring. It will actually accelerate as people won’t face up to being wrong about China liberalisation and instead of facing the threat double down.
As we have seen with covid, it’s easier for governments and individuals to deny reality than to admit mistake. That means acceleration.

I’m not some strategic genius, but I don’t believe it does apply only to one side. The difference is the USA administrations still appear to think they are unmatched. Simply sailing a carrier group somewhere near china isn’t enough, the Chinese are clearly preparing over the entire spectrum. You can see the arrogance in the US, and across the west, by looking at what’s promoted. Warfighters and capability are being punished and woke rules.
Simple things like a recent film about the Korean war revel a lot about the attitude and what they think they can do, they wouldn’t be putting out such a clearly nationalistic and antagonistic toward the US film if they didn’t think they could achieve a victory where it matters. They’ve almost certainly got a lot to learn, but in their own back yard I suspect they’d give a bloody nose.
I don’t reckon they’re too interested in imperial expeditions the way the US has been throwing it’s weight around, they will go in more for soft power like has been seen in Africa. Build a port for the locals, lend the money for it, and seize it when they don’t pay. Payoffs for the local leaders and get left alone to control what matters.
There’s a military theory book that was put out by a couple of Chinese thinkers detailing the approach they look to be taking. Really wish I could remember it. Flyingduk probably would’ve known exactly the one I’m thinking of.

Hmm….hope that’s not too scatterlogical.

JC, there has to be some government intervention in the Australian manufacturing sector. We are competing with countries who impose their own tariffs, subsidies and hidden import costs let alone subsidising their exports.
If we blindly go down the comparative advantage route we would be the only country “playing by the rules”.
It would be in the ordinary Australian’s best interests have slightly reduced living standards if the manufacturing sector expanded to such a position it could supply full employment and also provide a self-sufficient Australia.

Additionally, the assumption that living standards would fall if we protected manufacturing is debatable, particularly if we went back to a cheap and reliable energy policy.

You mean like China, with whom we have a ~A$70 billion trade surplus!

If we blindly go down the comparative advantage route we would be the only country “playing by the rules”.

The car industry worked really well for us. At the end, it was costing the taxpayers 50K per job. Magnify that because we currently make nafink and some of us want to make sumfink.

It would be in the ordinary Australian’s best interests have slightly reduced living standards if the manufacturing sector expanded to such a position it could supply full employment and also provide a self-sufficient Australia.

Speak for yourself and not for me or others. Australian made cars were fucking awful. Everything that I recall that was made here under tariffs and quotas was just terrible. It was just expensive crap.

Additionally, the assumption that living standards would fall if we protected manufacturing is debatable, particularly if we went back to a cheap and reliable energy policy.

There’s no debate as it would be a fact. Things would cost, more, they would be of poorer quality and choice would be reduced. These are pretty much all the components that dictate the rise and fall of living standards.

It’s just not cheap energy that would help manufacturing.
1. Allow markets to set wages.
2. Reduce regulations in both the goods and labor markets.

And this might not take the form of a UAP/LDP/PHON/Independent sweeping of Federal/State Parliaments and Upper Houses.

More likely, people like me will do an Arky and ‘informal’ their papers.

Putting the Sitting Member last, Faulty-Style, still means they have been voted for. The AEC will still allocate them some money for their presence on the paper.

The only thing that will potentially frighten any political bugman, is the realisation that no folks like the direction they are taking the country. And in the absence of any other political or legal redress (and no, I will not glowpost about rebellion. Australians as a culture are, in their laid-back and tolerant-to-the-point-of-apparent-apathy nature, nowhere near such a tipping point), this is about the only voice they have. Spike the informal vote percentages, and people will not be taken for granted.

The nation’s leaders will discuss a new definition for COVID-19 close contacts tomorrow, as they seek to ease pressure on health systems and testing facilities around the nation.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called a snap national cabinet meeting for Thursday, to deal with issues arising from the highly transmissible Omicron COVID-19 variant.

The nation’s leaders weren’t due to meet until next year, but will gather tomorrow to discuss the high coronavirus case numbers across the country, and huge queues for PCR tests.

They’ll also canvas a new definition of close COVID contacts, whereby those contacts would only be required to quarantine for seven days, and take a rapid antigen test on day six.

Mr Morrison also announced the Commonwealth would pick up 50 per cent of the cost of the rapid tests procured by the states.

So when you become eligible, it’s essential that you get your third dose as soon as possible, whether from one of our state-run clinics, your GP or a pharmacy.

Right now, anyone who received their first dose more than five months ago is eligible.

But on January 4, that will reduce to four months, and on January 31, it will be just three months.

Ahead of our Safe Transition Plan, getting your third dose is one of the best things you can do, to have the best level of protection for yourself and the people around you.

WA Health has confirmed that, as of 10am this morning, WA has recorded zero new local cases of COVID-19.

The total number of locally acquired cases related to the recent outbreak remains at ten – which includes the first case, Case 1,133.

I’d noted that QR was looking for trainee drivers (I guess the old route from cleaner to fireman to driver is now obsolete) for coal trains and suggested he apply. He did, was accepted and loves it.

If it was anything like the process I’ve been through Roger, the prospective trainee does a 4-6 week ground school to learn the basics of safeworking, company rules and shunting operations, then some time in the yard and on the road, then Engine and Air, then mentored driving time up to final assessment.

The older guys call such trainees ‘Microwave Drivers’ because of the compressed time period- Instead of 5-10+ years to qualify, the plan is to sit your final assessment and pass out in about 15-18 months. I agree with their contentions about the old system granting its graduees more experience before taking responsibility for a train, but when you need staff, a slow pipeline that takes in and produces only a small, fixed number of trainees per year is unworkable. And the post-privatisation Railway Companies have traditionally liked to keep their old guys working and avoid or minimise training new ones.

I am about 1/4 of the way through my final driving training, logging hours. I hope to be fully qualified come March/April, all going well.

Arguably a larger (predominantly industrial) base load provided some benefits where you had large centralised coal generated electricity and a transmission system, poles and wires designed around that. Any benefit provided is diminished the further you move away from that model.

Quick roll through the MSM sewer and still see these stories still prominently. 2 months rain in 3 days allegedly along the north tropical coast of Queensland. From the BOM who had inflated upper ranges as well in their forecasts:

Cooktown: 28th – 32mm 29th – 5mm
Daintree Village: 28th – 33mm 29th – 54mm
Cairns: 28th – 20.2mm 29th – 26.0mm
Innisfail: 28th – 28mm 29th – 17mm
Tully: 28th – 22mm 29th – 15mm
Cardwell: 28th – 27mm 29th – 18mm
Ingham: 28th – 5mm 28th – 11mm
Townsville: 28th – 3.4mm 29th – 4.3mm
Ayr DPI: 28th – 7.6mm 29th – 4mm

Yup, they got one part right 2 months rain for a typical dry season month…

2021 in Review: One of the Worst Years in American History ft. Substack Analysis

The analysis fails to record the major issue with 2021 – the utter incompetency of all levels of government and bureaucracy who have turned everything they touched into a disaster.
We can get over politicians over reacting to a normal flu season – we can’t get over the crisis of confidence of a police force that assaults the citizenry who merely want to get on with their lives without the heavy hand of government.
We can get over a recession that happens when outside forces trash our economy, but we can’t get over a ruined economic base that has happened because inflamed egos have decreed that only they can solve a problem, getting it wrong and then doubling down on their error because fragile ego.
In essence we can’t get over incompetent government that is run by the bureaucracy.

Latest from Roy Hill Charter flight, you now have to have a covid test at the airport with negative prior to boarding (everyone vaxxed and boosted as mandated (persondated?) of course).

So you may have >50 in a room waiting results, if there is a positive all in room will be close contacts and probably not allowed on flight, so no shift change for those up there.

I wonder if they have thought this through?

So if you need to get a negative test to get on a flight, what’s the point of proving you’ve had the 100% ineffective clot shot?

All the testing is pointless. The labs can’t keep up with it, for starters.

Testing has provided a convenient outlet for the fearful and the attention seekers, while giving a semblance of “control” for our idiotic governments. And also reasons to rob the population in general of freedom.

Someone is making bucketloads of money out of this, governments are foolishly relying on being seen to do something, anything, that will have them returned to power. It might have worked in Queensland and WA early in the piece, but may be less certain into next year.

Like that foul creature in the WH, they are hungry for death to justify their actions, but covid is proving uncooperative.

Not sure why it would be more expensive.
I understand they used to perform a lobotomy up the nose with a huge cotton bud.
I had to have a test recently and it was a single swab.
Inside the left cheek near lower gums.
Then right.
Then both nostrils.
But a really slender thing which they just inserted maybe 1″ ( 1.5″ absolute tops) into the nose.
No discomfort and only a single swab so I imagine the test cost wouldn’t change.

RAF created no-fly zone at Castle of Mey to save Queen Mother’s naps

The Queen Mother demanded that a no-fly zone be created around her Highlands retreat to allow her to enjoy afternoon naps in peace, newly disclosed documents have shown.

She bought the Castle of Mey, in Caithness, as a holiday home for £100 in 1952 after she fell in love with the semi-derelict fortress during a visit to the far north of Scotland.

Official correspondence, which has remained under wraps for almost three decades, revealed that Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother raised a formal complaint after her sleep was disturbed by low-flying jets during one of her annual trips to the castle.

The commandant-in-chief of the RAF Central Flying School, who had just turned 93, ordered one of her staff members to contact the Ministry of Defence to raise the issue of noise from jets during the day.

A letter from the defence secretary’s office dated August 12, 1993, shows that immediate action was taken to keep the peace and comply with her wishes.

Most of the young’uns especially are in the same boat. None of the major miners insist on employees providing vaxx proof to retain their jobs.

In typical Goldfields laissez-faire attitude, many don’t care, they just go along with it, but a very significant number that I spoke with are caught up in the “no jab, no job” dilemma and are very unhappy about it.

The more senior blokes (geos, engineers tehies etc.) seem less concerned, they will just go elsewhere in the mining game if they are forced into vaxxing.

Sneaker’s closed border is very, very popular with the blue collar blokes, they have been screwing the companies for increased pay and bonuses due to the critical shortages of skilled mine workers.
