Phhht.

Jane Kerosene on Twitter blames the fake COVID crisis we’re in on libertarians – you know, small government types like Swan, Morrison and Frydenberg, accumulating over 850 bn of debt.

Small government. At 1/3 of GDP, clearly this is way, way too small.

That generational welfare and poverty – Ah, small government.

Expensive housing – clearly not taxed enough!

Those refugees the left care about clearly need more government.

Banning celebrities for clout – small government.

Micallef is still good value.

Celebrity chef Adam Liaw being a condescending, hysterical weakling, calling vaccine hesitant babies whose lives could be spared.

Here’s the thing. Each county should just get a vote. Do you want to be part of Ireland or Britain?

I misread ‘county’ as ‘country.’

Now there’s an awful thought- What if the Irish voted against being Ireland, and the British voted against being Britain?

That would be kinda complicated…

Not a good sign Jupes. Let’s hope it is a delay with the aircraft elsewhere, even if it is a long one I have been on flights where the pilots don’t hold back the horses to make up time.

If it keeps delaying I’d be asking to be routed through another city not on the pox list, in fact I’d be making tentative inquiries about the flight and discussing options now. Plenty of times it has save my behind because the lady behind the counter has remembered me and kept me updated.

Summernats currently on in Canberra, much to the disgust of many residents.

We have some Summernats fans from as far away as SA staying at the motel. The guy in the room next door told me this morning that he has been coming for more than 20 years – not sure where he is from. He books his room for next year as he is leaving.

Unfortunately the weather is tropical – humid and overcast with thunderstorms. But it was dryish for most of today.

I love Summernats, and despite the fact that the fastidious element among the Canberra elite loathe it, it brings in a huge amount of business at a time of the year when hotels and restaurants are mostly empty. So every year, the precious ACT government has to hold its collective nose and cop it. It’s always glorious to watch. 🙂

How they must grind their teeth when the burn-out competions are on!

Steve Trickler (now resident at Adam’s) put up some great clips of burn-outs at the Nats. Enough to make Greta weep – heh heh.

Australian Immunisation Register Amendment (Reporting) Bill 2020
Second Reading

Mr HUNT (Flinders—Minister for Health and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service and Cabinet) (09:55): I move:

…The AIR [Australian Immunisation Register] provides Australians with an immunisation history statement (IHS) which displays all immunisations that an individual has had that are recorded on the AIR. The IHS, or immunisation history statement, can be viewed and printed via Medicare Online, myGov or the Express Plus Medicare mobile app. Vaccination providers can print an IHS on behalf of their patient. Immunisation information on My Health Record is updated via a daily feed from AIR data.

The IHS can be used by individuals to prove their immunisation status for child care, school, employment or travel purposes, particularly as there are cases around the world where different types of vaccinations are required for different countries.

This is the one thing that facilitates this tyranny. Without it, it isn’t possible.

Witchcraft is woke!

That’s not news. US witches spent Trump’s entire term casting spell on him. None worked.

Each month, thousands of witches cast a spell against Donald Trump (2017)

On a typical Wednesday, by the light of the waning moon, Kate Doucette joined several thousand strangers on the internet in casting a spell to “bind” Donald Trump.

Doucette — which is her married name, not her legal name — is one of the “resistance witches,” an at least 13,000-strong umbrella group of internet neo-pagans, Wiccans, solo practitioners who self-identify as “hedge witches,” longtime magical practitioners in various traditions, and committed activists. They’ve come together each month since Trump’s inauguration with one goal: to perform a spell — equal parts quasi-religious ritual and activist performance — to “bind” the president, forming a collective known as the #MagicResistance.

You’d think that there’d be righty witches as well as lefty witches, seeing that there’re supposed to be white and black ones. But no, all witches seem to be lefties. Millions of them.

In fact the old privacy act had written into it about the right to withhold medical info.

We did fill out the form to supress who can access though but it isn’t good enough. I would prefer to opt out. I keep a full register of my vaccines in an old yellow card, my vaccine status is a matter for me and my GP, it is and never has been the business of Karens, the Government or anyone else.

TRANSCRIPT (Press Conference)
03 Dec 2020
Prime Minister

The Hon. Greg Hunt MP, Minister for Health: Thanks, PM, and thanks David. So the immunisation register already exists. Think of it as a digital yellow book. Many of you would have had the World Health Organisation yellow books growing up and, like me, you’ve probably lost it over the years. And so this is an online version that actually exists already. And the change here is simply that whilst we maintain as an absolute article of faith voluntary but strongly encouraged vaccination, we have mandatory reporting of vaccinations for flu, for the National Immunisation Programme, for diseases such as mumps, rubella, pertussis and for COVID-19 vaccines. That’s very important, whole of nation public health information. But it’s also critically important information for individuals.

Journalist: Can companies get access to it?

The Hon. Greg Hunt MP, Minister for Health: No, no, it’s private. It’s your- it’s your medical record and it’s nobody else’s.

Weasel words. No, companies and businesses don’t have direct access, but given they know you now have instant access to it, they can use it as a tool to discriminate, by demanding you provide it as proof.

I’ll not forget.

Amazing how popular culture (if it could be dignified with such a term) can change out of all recognition in just 15 years (which might seem like a blink of an eye, in hindsight).

Try televising this live now and imagine the self righteous outrage**.

And I still can’t find a decent audio quality version of the song. 😕

What about the many people who help the elderly and disabled every day in their own communities? The ones who do their shopping, cook them a meal now and then, make sure they are OK?

These show ponies just downgrade real service to the community.

6th January 2022

To watch Biden speaking is very hurtful to many people. They’re the ones who tried to stop the peaceful transfer with a rigged election. Just look at the numbers. Does anybody really think that Biden beat Obama with the Black population in select Swing State cities, but nowhere else? That he would lose 18 out of 19 bellwether counties, and 27 out of 27 “toss up” House races, but somehow miraculously receive the most votes in American history with no coattails? That he would lose Florida, Ohio, and Iowa and win, even though it has never been done before?

They spread a “web of lies” about me and Russia for 4 years to try to overturn the 2016 election, and now they lie about how they interfered in the 2020 Election, too. Big Tech was used illegally.

Where did all those votes show up from in Georgia, where it was just revealed they sold ballots for $10 a piece, or in Pennsylvania, and Arizona, and Wisconsin. He acts like he’s aggrieved, but we’re the ones who were aggrieved and America is suffering because of it with poisonous Borders, record Inflation, a humiliating surrender in Afghanistan, $5 a gallon gas and higher, empty stock shelves, and rampant crime. America is a laughingstock stock of the world, and it’s all because of the real insurrection, which took place on November 3rd, but this is an election year and MAGA Republicans should get elected and work with me to fix this horror that Joe Biden and the Democrats have brought us.

Never forget the crime of the 2020 Presidential Election. Never give up!

I arrived in Rosario one day in the nineties and my host proudly said this was where they held the World Cup! Argies are total tragics.

I wasn’t in a great mood because I got diverted to Montevideo because of fog, caught flu, had an ear ache, then was ripped off by a Buenos Aires taxi driver, then missed my domestic flight and spent hours carefully saying my newly learned term “per favor” trying to get on a flight to Rosario, before getting the last one in the day, whereupon watched the stewardesses going up and down the aisle spraying pesticide everywhere; all after not eating anything because there was a cholera scare. On the flight back couple days later I was promoted to 1st Class for the first and only time ever. That was on the same Aerolinas Argentinas flight where two passengers died of cholera from eating their in-flight meals two months previously.

I may be biased about Argies. Far warning.

Further…

Biden is working hard to try and deflect the incompetent job he is doing, and has done, on the horrible Afghanistan withdrawal (surrender), the Borders, COVID, Inflation, loss of Energy Independence, and much more. Everything he touches turns to failure. That’s what you get when you have a rigged Election.

custard
custard
January 7, 2022 8:37 pm

Furthermore

Biden, who is destroying our Nation with insane policies of open Borders, corrupt Elections, disastrous energy policies, unconstitutional mandates, and devastating school closures, used my name today to try to further divide America. This political theater is all just a distraction for the fact Biden has completely and totally failed. Our Country no longer has Borders, has totally and completely lost control of Covid (record numbers!), is no longer Energy Independent, Inflation is rampant, our Military is in chaos, and our exit, or surrender, from Afghanistan was perhaps the most embarrassing day in the long and distinguished history of the United States—and so much more. Why is it that the Unselect Committee of totally partisan political hacks, whose judgment has long ago been made, not discussing the rigged Presidential Election of 2020? It’s because they don’t have the answers or justifications for what happened. They got away with something, and it is leading to our Country’s destruction. They want all conversation concerning the Election “Canceled.” Just look at the numbers, they speak for themselves. They are not justifiable, so the complicit media just calls it the Big Lie, when in actuality the Big Lie was the Election itself.

The Democrats want to own this day of January 6th so they can stoke fears and divide America. I say, let them have it because America sees through theirs lies and polarizations.

Wilf Oldham obituary
One of the last surviving veterans of the airborne assault on Sicily, as well as the ill-fated ‘Bridge Too Far’ Battle of Arnhem
Friday January 07 2022, 12.01am GMT, The Times
Obituaries

Wilf Oldham was lucky to evade capture at Arnhem in 1944, but he had been luckier still to survive the first British airborne assault of the war, Operation Ladbroke, in Sicily the year before.

At the outbreak of the war, Oldham, then aged 19, had volunteered rather than wait to be conscripted. He weighed just eight stone, but the medical officer said that regular food and fresh air would rectify that. Basic training with the East Lancashire Regiment at Squire’s Gate Camp, Blackpool — after the war, one of Fred Pontin’s first holiday camps — put a stone and a half of muscle on him. Twelve months later he volunteered for the newly raised airborne forces. Besides the glamour, he said, there was the extra pay.

Still a bit lightweight for the Parachute Regiment, he joined the Border Regiment instead, whose first battalion was being converted to a glider-borne role. While parachute troops could be inserted rapidly in large numbers, they could become widely scattered during the drop. Glider troops landed in formed bodies of sections and platoons — when, that is, they landed in one piece — making rallying much quicker. Gliders were, however, highly vulnerable to flak (tug-aircraft pilots referred to them with black humour as “towed targets”), as well as to natural or man-made obstacles on the landing grounds. Their pilots quipped that every descent was a planned accident. Oldham had never even been upstairs on a bus, and was surprised when on his first training flight he was the only one of his platoon not to be air-sick.

In early 1943, 1st Border, with the other units of the 1st Airborne Division, were shipped to north Africa to prepare for the Allies’ first assault on occupied Europe. They took off for Sicily from Tunisia at last light on July 9, but strong winds, pitch darkness and the inexperience of the tug pilots meant that more than half the gliders, including Oldham’s, were released too early and landed in the Mediterranean.

“I was nearest the door,” he recalled, “but owing to the pressure of the sea it was impossible to open it. Private Hurley found his rifle and smashed a hole in the canvas glider covering, this caused another rush of water which knocked me over. I was out of the glider and in the open sea, quickly followed by other men. The glider had settled in the water and we scrambled on the wings.”

Oldham was a good swimmer and despite the swell managed to keep contact with the wing. Others were not, and drowned. The survivors were picked up seven hours later when the seaborne landings began. After Sicily it was decided that gliders would not be released at night over water or in inadequate moonlight.

Oldham’s brigade returned to Britain and he was promoted to lance corporal. 1st Airborne Division was dismayed to be sidelined for D-Day, and further frustrated by the cancellation of several operations because of the unexpectedly rapid progress of the ground troops. By autumn, however, Field Marshal Montgomery’s Anglo-Canadian 21st Army Group was held up on the Dutch-Belgian border. Montgomery conceived a bold plan to “bounce” the Lower Rhine in the northern Netherlands to force an early surrender of German troops. It was called Operation Market Garden. “Market”, under Lieutenant-General “Boy” Browning, the British commander of the Anglo-US airborne corps, was the operation to seize the bridges along the main road through Nijmegen and to Arnhem, while “Garden” was the follow-up by ground forces, spearheaded by the British 30 Corps. There were eight significant water obstacles between 30 Corps’ start line and the ultimate objective, the north bank of the Rhine some 60 miles distant. Browning judged that all the bridges would have to be seized simultaneously or else the Germans, guessing what was happening, would reinforce or demolish those that remained.

Montgomery told Browning that 1st Airborne Division would have to hold Arnhem bridge for two days until relieved. Browning thought they could hold it for four, adding, according to some accounts, “but we may be going a bridge too far”, which gave Cornelius Ryan the title of his book and the film based on it directed by Richard Attenborough. Oldham, like most in 1st Airborne, just wanted to “get going” rather than wait about in England any longer.

Because of the strong flak defences, dropping close to Arnhem bridge was deemed too risky for both parachute and glider troops, so the air-landing brigade were given the job of securing a lodgment some three miles north and west of Arnhem from which the two British parachute brigades, dropping a mile and more further west, could make for the bridge, and where reinforcements and resupplies could be flown.

Beginning on the morning of September 17, 20,000 troops of Browning’s corps were dropped by parachute and 15,000 flown in by glider, together with more than 1,700 vehicles and 263 artillery pieces, to seize the succession of bridges. Oldham’s glider made a perfect landing on Ginkel Heath, but the reception was hotter than expected. They were soon in action, including eventually against an SS battalion consisting of non-German, including Dutch, troops. The parachute brigades found the reception just as hot.

1st Airborne could do no more than get a single battalion (2nd Parachute) to Arnhem bridge, and even then could not take its southern end. There were far more Germans at Arnhem than Allied intelligence had predicted, and reinforcements poured in daily, including tanks. Artillery and mortar fire was increasingly brought to bear on the division, and violent counterattacks launched, especially against the shrinking perimeter of the air-landing brigade’s lodgment, or “the cauldron” as it was bleakly christened. At one stage, Oldham was knocked unconscious by a shell blast.

On the ninth day, 30 Corps having been held up every mile of the way and still short of Arnhem, 2 Para ran out of ammunition. Montgomery ordered 1st Airborne to break off the fight and get back across the Rhine as best it could. Assault boats, many of them from the Canadian engineers, were hurried forward to ferry them out during darkness, but when Oldham and his party eventually reached the bank there were already several hundred waiting. He decided to chance walking further downstream instead in the hope that something would turn up, a risky venture as the Germans were now in possession of all but a short length of the north bank. They eventually stumbled across an abandoned rowing boat, and although the current carried them half a mile downstream, they made it to the other side. “Oh my, lad, you are in a state,” was the friendly greeting from a 30 Corps officer.

Of the 800 men of 1st Border, only 250 escaped; the remainder were killed, wounded or captured. The rest of the division fared no better.

On military things no one has mentioned the tangle yesterday. Literal tangle.

Royal Navy warship hit Russian ‘hunter-killer’ nuclear submarine in Atlantic clash (7 Jan)

HMS Northumberland let out its towed sonar cable to listen out for underwater sounds and to pick up where the submarine may have been.

However, in a startling collision the cable was reportedly “dragged over the submarine’s hull”.

The Sun said that the crew were then forced to abort the mission and return to port for repairs.

A source told the paper: “It was badly chewed up and unusable.”

A Navy source said they believed it was a “million-to-one chance event”.

They added it was highly likely the Russian sub would also have been damaged.

I suspect a number of Russian sailors will need a new issue of service underpants after this episode.

Milt – it’s an interesting concept when you think about it.

St Gough had impeccable credentials as an everyman, a war hero (and yes, he was), a barrasite and a faithful hubby to his beloved Madge in their humble suburban surroundings – Cabramatta, no less, where his beloved “Veitmanese* Balts” would eventually end up in great numbers thanks to his successor’s munificence.

The Fraser – landed gentry (i.e the Squattocracy), too young to serve in WW2, Oxford graduate, elected an MP when he was 25.

These are the scum who sold this country down the toilet after Ming the Merciless had left the scene.

Arrogant born to rule bastards who knew they knew best.

Summernats currently on in Canberra

The drama, the tension, the smoke!
My SiL took his pride and joy restoration down from Sydney and was rewarded with a place in the Grand Parade.
Dropped his gearbox doing burnouts just moments before the parade.
I’m now the proud FiL of a furious, embittered, broke young man.
Still, many stories of woe to listen to over a beer or 3.

Luxury perks ruled out for Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic demanded access to his chef and a tennis court while in immigration custody in Melbourne as the Serbian government rallied to his side, urging that he be moved to accommodation “befitting the best sportsman” on the planet.

But the world No.1, detained since his visa was cancelled for breaching Covid vaccination rules, will have to make do with the $109-a-night Park Hotel in Carlton, where he is cooling his heels alongside remanded asylum-seekers who rate the in-house fare as “maggoty bullshit”. Australian Border Force officials flatly rejected Djokovic’s requests, explaining there would be no special treatment. Gluten intolerant and fastidious about his diet, the lanky 34-year-old had wanted his personal chef to prepare all meals.

He needed to train for the Australian Open, he explained, because there was still a chance he could take his place when the tournament starts on Monday week. Djokovic asked to be transferred to the luxurious rented home with a tennis court that was to have been his base. He would pay for private guards.

The answer was still no.

They should be grateful for the extra protein, surely.

Following on from the controversies of last evening, including the (alleged) denunciations of “religionists”:

R is a lapsed Catholic, but he remains deeply influenced by Catholic thought. The Skinnerian view of man appals him. He thinks that a human being whose behaviour was simply the expression of conditioned responses is not fully human but an automaton. If he did the right thing merely in the way that Pavlov’s dog salivated at the sound of a bell, he could not be a good man: indeed, if all his behaviour was determined in the same way, he was hardly a man at all. A good man, in R’s view, would have the ability to do evil, an ability that he would voluntarily restrain*, at whatever disadvantage to himself.

*To paraphrase a Bard of some notoriety, “The concept of restraint is not strained”.

As various fascist monsters might soon discover.

May be mistaken. Quite sure the judgement that was posted the other day had the Judge ruling he be given access to a Tennis Court till the appeal is heard. Wouldn’t that be contempt? Or even at the bare minimum very petty looking.

The Qantas Club. One place that does not have any provision for those who do not have a smartphone.
QR checkin via phone, or no entry.

Where’s that Sal? Flew a couple times last year and Q Club Townsville had a tablet to sign me in. Brisbane they didn’t even check though I airily waved phone at the check in & walked through, Newcastle-Port Stephens doesn’t have a lounge but airport has manual sign in.

Sounds odd, I’d let Qantas Customer Care know.

Thanks Rokdokta. I may do just that.
It was Brisbane domestic, just before Christmas.
Flight was delayed Five hours. Qantas Club staff would not allow me as far as the door from the public concourse to Gates .
No smartphone to QR code: No entry.

“Download the app” was the barked command.
Explaining that I’ve utterly no idea how to use the internet on a phone, & my phone is not internet enabled, & that I’ve no ruddy idea how to download an app;
“Log in to the Brisbane airport wifi & do it that way” was the next barked command.
I’ve no ruddy idea what that involved & said that now is not the time to learn.
Shrugged shoulders was the mute reply, along with a look that said “eat my dog’s dung, microbe”

They glared in contempt over their masks, though eventually my pleadings & puppy dog look prompted them to tell me how delayed my flight would be. (This whole fiasco took about 15 minutes)

It was a long thirsty Five hours, Qantas Club wouldn’t let me in, shops would accept only card payment.
Just as it seemed I’d have to lower my standards & drink from a public fountain, a shop run by an owner-driver up the Virgin end accepted cash when he saw that was the only way he’d make a sale.

I’m now incensed to read upthread that Qantas Club will allow manual sign-in.
I’ve been a platinum frequent flyer for more than a decade (until covid that is, I’ve now lapsed to mere “Lifetime Gold”)

Sal, just did some research and was unaware of this:

https://www.tropicnow.com.au/2020/december/21/manual-covid-19-check-in-banned-in-qld-from-wednesday

That said, it was last year and the only 2 times I was pulled up in Qld they had a tablet handy with the Qld Check in App, all I had to do was put my name and ph number in. It isn’t hard but I have found the Brisbane Domestic Q Club the runt of the litter so to speak.

FFS the last time I went into a NSW pub was the Imperial at Rooty Hill and they had the same set up and it would comply with Anna’s BS IMO.

Pretty well, JC, because they hate and fear the Orange God-Emperor as much as, or more, than the Dems.

Seems a bit dated, but Australia and Covid in the news on CBN (Christian Broadcast Network). If they were current they would have cited that a Serbian Orthodox is spending Orthodox Christmas under lockup! Novax will probably get a entry ban to Australia stamped on his passport. You can piss Tennis Australia off to Hong Kong Kong for the next year, where conditions will be less restrictive than Oz!!

It’s beginning to look a lot like the final lap. Consensus is growing that Omicron has accelerated our progress towards the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in countries such as Australia with high rates of infection.

“I like quoting Blade Runner – ‘The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long’,” says University of Sydney infectious diseases expert Robert Booy.

“I don’t think even the best virologists can tell you for sure when this pandemic may end. There is a great deal of scientific uncertainty – but in the past, pandemics have lasted two or three years, and they tend to quieten down after that.

“Experience teaches us that we might be in a good position, especially because we have got the double advantage of vaccination immunity and wild virus-induced immunity, both at high levels.”
