The authorities’ hypocrisy over Djokovic’s exemption is more nuanced than simple unvaxxed/vaxxed.

Djoker has had Covid. He is being given an exemption based on infection generated immunity. This is not an ‘out’ available to Australians facing mandatory vaccination.

His work is simply more “essential” in the twisted minds of the media and our politicians, so he gets a pass.

A must admit I enjoyed the irony driving though towns with sines saying keep out so I do my essential work of pulling post out of a disused vineyard from property that is still unused.

Not any more.

The Djokovic decision was a sinister move:
It infuriates the populace about injustice
It validates compliance and past mad acts by the state
It furthers the polarisation of society
It adds to the coffers.

But I also think the same decision can reveal that what is right for some is the same thing that is right for all. Otherwise, the risk is that we become our own jailers because we want equality.
Or something like that.

In Long-held Desire news:

New $316m Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural precinct to be built in Canberra: ‘Ngurra’

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the precinct, to be built on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin on Ngunnawal country, would be a place of national pride and significance.

“Ngurra is the realisation of a long-held desire to have a home for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories at the heart of our nation,” he said.

It’s almost as if there’s an election coming soon.

3AW has consistently tried to gin up hatred of Djokovic over his vaxx status.

Tim Blair:

Modern sports reporters are insufferable moralistic scolds, and as a general rule anything that upsets them should be supported.

So let us all applaud the decision to grant Novak Djokovic a vaccination exemption for the Australian Open…….

Two points: “obscene decisions” stopped Australians flying interstate to see loved ones. Instead of complaining about one exemption, complain about being shut down for two years………

(For their next trick, by the way, watch Australian sports writers head to China for the Winter Olympics – and not say a damn word against the dictatorship that created a need for vaccinations in the first place.)

Hundreds of Trump supporters who stormed the Capitol on January 6 have been charged. But a bombmaker remains free

More than 700 people have been charged over the January 6 riot, but mystery surrounds the suspect who planted pipe bombs on Capitol Hill the night before the riots.

Enormous resources have been poured into the investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has released substantial information about the movements and appearance of the pipe bomber.

Yet, the nationwide manhunt for the suspect has so far come up empty-handed, even with a $US100,000 bounty on their head.

A whole $US100,000!
And a heartwarming plea for help from the most senior levels of the FBI:

In a video plea for assistance, Special Agent D’Antuono asked Americans to be prepared to turn in someone who may even be near and dear to them.

From the Rogan-McCulloch interview, on the reluctance of doctors to treat covid patients:

“I think it was a grip of fear. Doctors for the first time in their lives felt like they could get the disease themselves if they actually saw and examined these patients. All the discussion was on personal protective equipment, hand sanitizer, negative air flow rooms. It was all about protecting the healthcare workers. There wasn’t any focus on sick patients.”

I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised. How many study medicine for the prestige & reward rather than a burning desire to heal sick people?

The problem with the Djokovic double standard is that the incompetent buffoons of the Government Health Nazi Industrial Complex threw out their adherence to immunological science established decades ago (that catching a disease gives you immunity from future infections) in order to coerce people into getting vaccines that (unlike all vaccines developed before 2020) don’t protect you from infection, just stop you getting seriously ill because they were rushed into production without exhaustive trials.

Djokovic caught Kung Flu in 2020 before a vaccine was available, meaning he’s most unlikely to catch it again because of the immunity he now has.

That means his exemption is deserved – but no-one in the GHNIC is going to explain that because it stinks of hypocrisy and double standards.

Those knowall arseholes created the conundrum now kicking their arse that special treatment is extended only to celebrities and the rich.

I’m curious as to why these celebrities and tennis players are never denounced and smeared as far-right, anti-vaxxer, Nazi white supremacists.

Money for the media and prestige for politicians.

A huge amount of money is invested by networks in sport, whether it be the AO, Olympics, cricket…whatever. They are not going to shit in their money- making machine, neither are they going to call the others out because it will be tit for tat. Soooo…it remains the cash cow in the room and will stay that way until it runs out of money.

Will the compliant vaxxed complain? Possibly. Most likely they will shrug and turn their attention on the hapless sods who turn up to shop maskless.

I’ve seen some MSM reports where other players are furious – ostensibly because they think he is being “irresponsible” – but I suspect the real reason is because they realise that they have been dudded. Forced to jab up on pain of exclusion, and no doubt at least some of them would have preferred not to, and then The Joker sails through, because he can.

The Open would have been a farce if he was not participating, and whoever won would be under a cloud of doubt forever because he didn’t beat the world’s best player.

I say kudos to The Joker for standing firm and showing up the hypocrisy of Our Betters. He made them genuflect and squirm in public, he showed up the lack of integrity of the system, and he gets to play on his terms. Good for him!

I stopped participating in this farce ages ago. All it did was put you at risk of being caught up in the “being forced to get tested and/or isolate for x number of days idiocy”.

If there are now that many “cases” then clearly there is no longer any need for it, especially if a) the “contact” rules have been relaxed and b) the tracing system has been overwhelmed.

Whipped into Bondi Junction at 9am this morning for a quick blood test and to pick up a last script sent by the doc to Chemist Warehouse in Oxford Street. As I was paying I hear a guy on his phone saying, quick, get in here, they’ve got two boxes of rapid antigen tests just come in, one set of two tests per customer for $25. I say to the girl at the counter oh I’ll have one of those too, picking one up from the first small box which is now already half-empty and suddenly there a long queue forming behind me, all of them clutching their test kit for purchase. I don’t expect those two small boxes of packages will last long at all.

I tell Hairy when I get home. Just another form of toilet paper panic, he says wearily to me, but I say it might be useful to have these two just in case one of us gets sick and we want to find out what it is for home treatment etc. He’s still in bed, yawning. It took him ages very late last night on the phone to arrange our preferred flights to the UK at the end of April. Computer said no, apparently stuck in some endless loop, but a long and tedious phone call managed to get it all home and hosed. Craig Tiley: “not only was the process appropriately followed but the conditions in which any tennis player comes in – no matter who they are, conditions put on tennis and put on anyone coming into Australia by the Australian government”

Sounds like he’s attempting to deflect the blame for the entire imbroglio onto Morristeen and his morons, as opposed to a certain grotesque deformed jug eared imbecile.

It’s a reflection of how stupid so many people are that they simply wouldn’t be able to comprehend why the Djoker was given his exemption (i.e. natural immunity). Hence all the subsequent self righteous squawking from various imbeciles in the meeja, who in classic fashion have gone after the hate figure du jour, as opposed to the monumental f*ckwits responsible for this ridiculous state of affairs.

It will also be interesting to see how these idiots’ screechings for a boycott of the AO plays out (as “reported” this morning on chiple j news). I’d be surprised if there’s any adverse impact at all on crowds and TV viewer numbers.

The Victorian man, who appeared in ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged with arson and damaging commonwealth property, was granted bail ahead of his next appearance on February 1.

But, ACT Police confirmed the man had been arrested in Parkes alongside another male on Tuesday afternoon.

While the first man was arrested for a driving offence, his passenger was charged with breaching his bail conditions, “whereby he was instructed not to enter the suburb of Parkes except in the company of a police officer, to collect personal items”.

Looks like the word has been spoken from on high…case numbers are now meaningless.

They look very level, the case numbers, but they’re beginning to lose more and more meaning because the proportion [that are] positive across New South Wales and Victoria is so high,” Dr Lydeamore said.

He argues it will be difficult to post new case numbers much greater than 20,000 per day because of the limitations of the PCR testing systems in Victoria and New South Wales.

Again, stuff that’s been called for here months ago is finally being accepted as the logical response. The thousands testing +ve are the tiny tip of the iceberg of infection, most of whom don’t even know they have it.

The RAT tests approved in Oz vary pretty massively in their accuracy.

https://www.tga.gov.au/covid-19-rapid-antigen-self-tests-are-approved-australia

For each test a comment on the clinical sensitivity is assigned as follows:

Acceptable sensitivity – clinical sensitivity greater than 80% PPA
High sensitivity – clinical sensitivity greater than 90% PPA
Very high sensitivity – clinical sensitivity greater than 95% PPA

Typically these are all considered to be functions of ignorance, superstition and bigotry. Perhaps it would be fruitful for the covid Karens to be confronted with the fact that they are adopting that role for themselves in the current iteration of mass fuckwittery. Shame and ridicule seems the only way to deal with them, reason is clearly out the window. Dunking at the wastewater plant might work too.

Chemist at Chemist Warehouse BJ today told me that yes, you can have Astra Zenica as a booster at Chemist Warehouse outlets that do vaccines (not this one). Big call, struth. You might have Omicron and just think you have a runny nose, or a slightly raspy throat. Most normal people would shrug and say, meh.

Also, at $10+ a pop, and basically none available anyway, would you bother with an RAT? Of course, if you’re an idiot or need to get clearance for work or travel or some creepy medical centre won’t treat you, you might front up to a testing centre. And wait 5 days until you get the result.

It isn’t about the existence/non existence of the virus. It’s about people’s response to it.

Yet I read that AZ is used as a booster in the UK.

Lizzie – AZ primary vaccine shouldn’t work as a booster because after two doses you’d be immune to the vector adenovirus. So the adenovirus would be mopped up before it could infect cells and then generate spike proteins via the mRNA payload.

On the other hand as a way of satisfying government edicts taking AZ as a “booster” for green tick reasons would be elegant, since the adenovirus is harmless in itself. So the “booster” would be very safe…just of no medical use for generating antibodies against coof. Which seeing the spike protein in Omicron is so different from Delta is probably a moot point anyway.

To find out what people want and thus remain competitive, toilet seat manufacturers like Toto or Matsushita Electric Works routinely carry out surveys that reveal some weird, albeit interesting information. For example, the results of one survey recently revealed that most Japanese men urinate seating on the toilet seat.

Yes. See comment above. Before we leave for the UK. It will probably still be needed there for travel, but also I will accept that with Hairy’s comorbidities and at my age and health status vaxx may be protective against Covid Original and Covid Delta while probably not necessary for Covid Omicron. If Hairy takes it into his head to do a side trip to Lappland (his latest rumbling) we may travel in May to parts where some bad Covid is circulating, including new variants.

We are in the category of people whom Covid (like influenza) actually does kill. Will have our yearly ‘flu shots then too. But we are basically healthy and intrepid. Haven’t let much stop us so far. 🙂

Yes, Bruce. I read you saying this before. I’m not so sure that vector viruses, which are commonly used as a vaccine transport mechanism, get dismissed so quickly in this way. I’ll have to read up on it. If we get Omicron in the meantime (I’ll hug my son and try to catch it) and if AZ is thus useful only for a green tick, then we’ll go the AZ for the tick and trust natural Omicron immunity and earlier vaxx to be protective. By April we are rather hoping that Novovax (with its friendly little nano transport packages, which seem so far harmless) will be available here for boosters.

There are risks with any vaccine for any disease. It’s a risk so far we’ve been prepared to take for other diseases and at our age are still prepared to take. It’s not as if Hairy and I are any sort of candidates these days for reproduction (although natch we still go through the motions). 🙂

What the American left needs now is allegiance, not allyship. It must abandon any imagined fantasies about the sanctity of governmental institutions that long ago gave up any claim to legitimacy. Stack the supreme court, end the filibuster, make Washington DC a state, and let the dogs howl, and now, before it is too late. The moment the right takes control of institutions, they will use them to overthrow democracy in its most basic forms; they are already rushing to dissolve whatever norms stand in the way of their full empowerment.

So to stop existing institutions from “failing” by political processes the answer is to attack them and bend them to our will.

And this sub mongoloid thinks that will prevent a civil war…

Struth, there are two types of immune system: the inate and the adaptive.

It is quite likely that two shots of AZ prime the inate system well enough to be reasonably long lasting. The antibody adaptive system may peter out but the inate system will still be strong and its t and other cells will still hit at Covid quite well with a ‘don’t kill me’ defense, not a cytokyne storm type of event which may happen if the inate system is not primed. This gentle reaction allows the virus to remain in you for a while to transfer to others (which makes the virus happy – in environmentally evolutionary terms). That’s what I think. I also think a booster can reinforce things.

Some people may prefer to rely on their overall immune system to be in tip top native nick.
That’s good too. Dissolute characters like me and Hairy, who eat, drink and make merry, not so much.

She has been working with Jeff Smith, the Labour MP for Manchester Withington, on a campaign under the slogan Stop the Breast Pest.

Creasy told the Guardian last year she was breastfeeding on a train when she noticed a teenage boy laughing and taking pictures.

“He had his phone out and I thought he was playing with his phone, and then I realised with horror that he was taking photos,” she said.

“You feel exposed. I don’t think he can have got very much of a picture, but the sheer horror at the point when you’re focused on trying to support your newborn baby … and somebody is doing that, it was vile. Because I felt quite vulnerable, I just got off my train as soon as I could.”

The new offence of breastfeeding voyeurism, which would apply in England and Wales, is one of two new amendments to the police, crime, sentencing and courts bill. There will be a two-year maximum sentence for those caught and prosecuted.

I dont suppose something as simple as draping a towel/scarf over the area in question could be an alternative to involving the throbbing organs of the state?

Politically, there’s no point putting either group of voters offside by being clear about which he means.

Which may explain why Vic Libs are not seen as a credible alternative government by anyone and are leaking votes to minor parties.

Meanwhile, “Over three-quarters of Victorians (76%) agree that an employed worker in Victoria is not allowed to enter their employer’s workplace unless fully vaccinated.” Roy Morgan, November 2021.

Which suggests that if Dan were to pull the pin on Djokovic, the 60% who approve of his leadership would be reinforced by his will to keep them safe.

I’m not so sure that vector viruses, which are commonly used as a vaccine transport mechanism, get dismissed so quickly in this way.

Lizzie – Here’s an article by a biomed guy:

3 doses, then 1 each year: why Pfizer, not AstraZeneca, is the best bet for the long haul (Apr 2021)

But as time goes on, using the AstraZeneca shot isn’t the best long-term strategy.

One reason for this is what immunologists call “vector immunity”. The AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines use a viral vector, which is an inactivated (cannot replicate) form of a common type of virus called an “adenovirus”. They use this adenovirus as a delivery vehicle to get DNA into our cells to give them the instructions to develop immunity against the coronavirus. However, you can’t be repeatedly immunised with this type of vaccine because you’ll likely develop immunity to the adenovirus vector (the delivery vehicle) itself. When that happens your immune system interferes with the delivery vehicle getting into your cells and the effectiveness of these vaccines would erode over time.

CSL will be aware of this, so the market for the AZ vaccine is self-limiting. Ok, yes, they can try to export it but that’s a competitive market and because the technology isn’t suitable for an effective booster it isn’t worth carrying on with.

It’s easy to breast feed discreetly. A light baby wrap over your shoulder makes a nice little tent in very public circumstances. An undone blouse can also shelter bub’s head and his source of noisy delight.
You don’t have to make an earth mother display of it all.

The only time I was upbraided for public baby feeding was when in a First Class train carriage in Sri Lanka in the 70’s I put a bottle of expressed breast milk in my son’s mouth. A kindly matron raced over and wrapped up the bottle in the nappy on my knee and smilingly handed it back to me. I discovered later that it is considered totally obscene to show milk in public in Sri Lanka. Tit-feeders, that’s OK as you don’t see the milk, and that’s culture for you.

But reality must bend to what I want it to be or society has failed!!!!

If Muslim women can breastfeed (pretty well using the method you used) in a compound full of men and no-one give a toss (fnar, fnar, snerk, snerk) then its a pretty effective method.

The politicization of science started with the climate rubbish and that corrupting influence has had a couple of decades to fully metastasize. So when bat crud arrived the scientific administration landscape, of which the medical bureaucracy is a part, was a hollowed out tree full of leftist white ants.

Brett Sutton didn’t need much of a nudge.

The current climate emergency is the single greatest threat to global health into the future. Already we are seeing the effects from increasing severity and frequency of heatwaves; extreme weather events including flooding and drought; threats to water quality and security; threats to food security, employment and mental health with drought and floods. There’s increased risk of food poisoning with higher temperatures and also the risk of vector-borne disease as mosquito populations establish themselves over more traditionally temperate areas. Then there are the very significant changes globally as rising water levels and extreme weather threatens to displace populations from low-lying areas and areas with weak infrastructure. These climate displaced may even occur in Australia, as for other regions of the world, as climate change threatens food production and water supply to areas that have struggled even in the era before such climate effects have been so manifest.

• Reprise his much-admired 2019 ‘I-never-met-the-chap-because-I-would-have-remembered-shagging-her’ performance.

2) Pay away a big slab of Go Away money. Everyone hoots and shrieks for evermore.

3) Stop engaging in the process, and accept a default judgement.

“Some people may prefer to rely on their overall immune system to be in tip top native nick.”

With a handful of exceptions, I haven’t had a cold or ‘flu for 30+ years, despite regular contact with many under 10 kids and/or parents of them. And for those exceptions, I had a runny nose and felt a bit “off” for a day or two, while those around me were in bed for 3 – 7 days. I never get the flu vax. Why would I want bat-flu vax? Yet by GovCo decree, I had to chose between one of two UN Universal Human Rights – the right to earn a living, or the right to bodily autonomy. But only after the vax became available – before that, I was “essential”, but I suddenly became “non-essential” once the vax was available.
I am supposed to respect all peoples human rights, but mine are violated on the say-so of a bureaucrat because “safety”/”community”.

FOAD you pack of blood-sucking dickheads – stay the hell out of my personal health choices, or just maybe I’ll ignore your right to due process and to not be subjected to cruel and unusual punishments. That wouldn’t turn out well for you. And as every day of your mandates continues, more and more are coming to the same conclusion – that you have no clue and neither do your “experts”. Which would be fine if you’d care to admit it and stop forcing me to do things, but you’re too full of hubris and false pride to ever admit to a mistake.
