“ScoMo weighs in on integrity crisis as he angles for Qld green vote” – Newscorp headline.

Moron’s last chance was:

It’s been a tough two years and the personal and National costs have been enormous.

Our focus for the next term is “Getting Australia Back on its feet”. We’re all about minimising spending and getting productivity back into the economy – and, in the meanwhile, important projects are just going to have to wait.

Unfortunately he now loves the magic credit card too much.

Which means any dissembling liar with a spreadsheet full of assumptions can say anything and be just as credible.

Special Bonds of Ian Fleming’s old friend
Jack Blackburn
Saturday January 29 2022, 12.01am GMT, The Times

‘Get out of that office, kid, and write!” Those words spurred Ian Fleming on to become an author and they came from Paul Gallico, the American writer of The Snow Goose and The Poseidon Adventure, who had read a draft of Casino Royale and was impressed.

Fleming took the encouragement and, upon his success, sent Gallico his books. That collection of 14 books has now sold at auction for almost £170,000.

The pair met while working at The Sunday Times. When the aspiring espionage writer sent his debut piece to his friend for notes the response was glowing. Gallico called it a “knockout” which “goes in for frankness and detail far beyond any American-type thriller and could have a big sale”.

Fleming never forgot his mentor. Inside the cover of Diamonds are Forever he wrote: “To Paul, who spread his wings over my firstborn”.

Gallico’s collection included a complete set of the Bond works, including eight first editions. After his death in 1976 the works remained in his island home near Antibes in the south of France. They were sold by Chiswick Auctions this week, fetching almost £100,000 more than their estimate. A first edition of Casino Royale sold for £62,500.

“It was a privilege to be able to sell these remarkable literary works,” Clive Moss from Chiswick Auctions said. “The personal inscriptions in these, between friends and one author to another, makes them very special, as one could almost assume that if it was not for Gallico’s enthusiasm and encoura-gement of Fleming there might have never been a ‘James Bond’. These works are a true part of literary history.”

The inscriptions are certainly very personal. Fleming seems pleased to have found in Gallico’s notes his praise for a scene in Casino Royale where the villain tortures Bond’s genitalia. Gallico said it “beats everything I have ever read”. This led to Fleming acquiring a literary nickname. In the American’s copy, Fleming wrote the dedication “To Paul from Balzache”.

The pair had similar career paths, at least in terms of their writing, being journeymen hacks before turning to novels. Fleming was a journalist for many years, including as an executive and writer at The Sunday Times, before turning to fiction with the success of Bond. Gallico had started off as a sports writer, but also worked as a war correspondent.

One person who was less glowing than Gallico about Fleming’s writing was Fleming himself. He wrote Casino Royale in eight weeks in 1952 and, having finished the manuscript, did nothing with it. “I was too ashamed,” he said later. “No publisher would want it and if they did I would not have the face to see it in print. Even under a pseudonym, someone would leak the ghastly fact that it was I who had written this adolescent tripe.”

Lizzie, I wouldn’t be surprised if the perpetually disaffected are, or will be, pestering Ash Barty to become an “icon” or “figurehead” for some feminist/woke cause or other.

She is of part indigenous descent. The pull will be strong on that side.

Apparently in the early phase of Polly Farmer’s career when he was the out and out superstar of the WAFL, the state government and East Perth football club used to have surreptitious “minders” around on matchdays to shield him from grievance mongers, rent seekers, freeloaders, etc.
Nowadays to give Barty similar protection, government and the tennis authorities would be high on the list of who she needed to be shielded from.

Another way of looking at it is this. Scotus does overturn the 2020 election and installs Trump, on 2 Nov 2024…thereby preventing him from being elected as 47 since he already has had two terms. Then in the election the next day, since the Republicans now have no candidate, the Dem is elected unopposed.

But Environment Minister Reece Whitby said Friday’s announcement would bring certainty for businesses.

“In the eastern states, this information had to be rolled out at the peak of Omicron rampaging through communities,” he said.

“What we’re saying is, to the business community, here is new directions or at least new information about guidelines in terms of testing protocols and other arrangements that they can look and see how it would impact on their particular business.”

He said it was impossible to give any indication of what might happen in the future with a high degree of certainty.

“I know everyone would like some black-and-white definites [sic], but unfortunately it’s not a black-and-white world with COVID,” Mr Whitby said.

“If we can save a life, if we can avoid the tragedy and the pain and the anguish of what is going on in other states through a careful approach, then I think it’s worthwhile and I think Western Australians agree that it’s worthwhile.”

This is not taken out of context or truncated, but straight from the news.

So you have certainty, but we cant be certain of anything in the future. Except we are willing to inflict anything at all as long as it might save ONE life.

This is unfortunate as there’s a lot of people who would like to support them or cheer them on their way, but they don’t know anything about the protest, it’s very poorly organised from publicity perspective.

What that means legally I don’t know. But despite being pooh poohed by the MSM it’s clear some state legislators think they can do it.

If nothing else he’d stop the boats of illegals coming across the Channel, which is currently rated the 3rd most important issue by voters after health and the economy.

It’s a very long shot, but it’s a sign of how shallow the leadership pool is in the Conservative Party.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak, the bookies’ favourite, is playing his cards close to his chest and may not welcome the scrutiniy of his privileged background that being PM would bring.

Meanwhile his competition, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, recently in Australia for joint security talks, is using the Ukrainian crisis to bolster her “Iron Lady” image, although the Chinese press has labelled her a “chocolate soldier”. Well, at least she’s gotten under their skins.

Whilst the illegals arrive on the beaches, want to know how many people arrived legally in the UK between 2020 and 2021….during a supposed pandemic….more than 700,000.

The thing is with the absolutely incompetent Blob Johnson and his team is that I suspect voters would be more forgiving of his lockdown parties if he and his government had attended to some of the pressing issues that concern traditional Tory voters and red wall voters….immigration, Islam, assimilation, affordable housing, power prices etc…instead Blob Johnson has just pandered to people who would never vote for him with absurd and rather extreme green and social policies.

Blob has lost the plot, there’s an argument that he’s always been a shallow opportunist however I suspect the Carrievirus has been far more lingering detrimental to him than the Covid he caught back in April 2020. The Statute of Westminster precludes Aussies from being British P.M., but i’d say Tony is eligible.

Sancho – It’s Saturday. I’m having fun. You do know what fun is don’t you? The US electoral system is such a rat’s-nest that almost anything is possible. The Dems seem to be double-daring the Right to go nuclear. I sort of hope they do, but I don’t like the blood that would be spilt (mainly from Democrats) in such a circumstance.

Abbott will trash his reputation forever to “save Britain” when he cucked out here

Otoh, he could redeem his reputation. Stop the boats, bolster the NHS (an area she has at least some expertise in) and preside over an economic recovery with reform minded Sunak as Chancellor. As an outsider Abbott might appeal to the Purple Wall constituency too, which is crucial for the Tories to hold government.

It’s an intriguing notion.

Joni Mitchell to follow Neil Young in removing music from Spotify over COVID-19 misinformation (29 Jan)

The problem for Mz Mitchell is (a) Rogan has an audience in the literal tens of millions and (b) what he is saying is actually correct.

“What Have You Guys Been Right About?” Adam Carolla Slams Media Over Joe Rogan Controversy (28 Jan)

Carolla then made a mockery of legacy media outlets and shows like The View constantly complaining about COVID “misinformation.”

“What have you guys been right about?” he asked.

“You closed the beaches down, you closed the schools down, cloth masks were gonna save us all, the vaccine was gonna be effective, natural immunity wasn’t effective – what have you been right about?”

The comedian then asserted that he would be confident in putting Joe Rogan’s batting average up against CNN’s batting average “any day of the week,” referring to CNN’s infamous dismissal of Ivermectin as horse dewormer.

Carolla returned to the issue of Neil Young demanding his music be removed from Spotify, remarking, “Guys like Neil Young, who back in the day would have been on the side of natural immunity are now on the side of big pharma and pushing back against natural immunity, so the whole thing is upside down.”

Funny how the counterculture rockers who were against the Man in the day are now slavish serfs.

It is, agreed.

But this is the thing about it and why people shouldn’t start in on RDA, Reclaim the Line, etc for trying to make money and careers out of their activism. The political right or whatever, pro freedom people, need an established semi-professional activist network and apparatus that can be spun up to organise shit like this.

The left has it. They literally teach their people this stuff in university and we all pay for it, then they have dozens of NGO front-groups that are really actually activist cells, keeping the knowledge alive, that then mobilise for things like this when needed.

That’s why they’re so good at it. We need to get good at it too, and support people who want to do that work.

My sister, in fact, ended up marrying a man who was part-aboriginal but I never thought of him like that. He was brought up by a non-aboriginal aunt who had great tabs on herself as a cut above a lot of the rest of us (she played the organ in the church) and although I heard his dad, her brother, was a drunk and that Sis’s boyfriend’s mum was ‘pretty dark’ in colour, the fact that his mother was also a drunk was by far the most relevant piece of information concerning him being left with his aunt. Whip smart and intelligent although no scholar, he went through high school to fifth year, was always a total Jack the Lad, handsomly swarthy in appearance hence fitting in well with the Italian boys, and if Big Sis hadn’t nabbed him first then I might have done so, although don’t ever tell her that, for she was always jealous of any attention he showed me in spite of me being a model of decorum with him. If anyone thinks they “know “ what the outcome will be in the USA when it’s obvious they have an illegitimate President is full of shit!

No-one “knows” anything for sure, right, but we can work within the realms of reasonable probability.
One thing which is at 1,000,000 to 1 is Bruce’s musings about installing Trump with a day to go in 2024 to invalidate a run by him for 2024 – 2028, one the grounds that he would have served two terms.
You want to know why it is long odds?
Well, under the Constitution, “two terms” is defined as a minimum of one full term and at least one half of another term.
Technically LBJ could have run in 1968 and served 9 years.
So that one is a bust.
As for SCOTUS overturning the Electoral College?
My estimate of the likliehood of that is at considerably shorter odds.
Say, 1,000 to 1.
The electoral college process has been run and won.
Remember. Electoral college voters are guided by popular vote, not bound by it.
Finding popular vote irregularities will not overturn the EC vote.
And Courts have already demonstrated a reluctance to interfere.
Try to think logically about probable outcomes, rather than allowing the emotional reaction to The Big Steal to take over.

I did feel a little bit uncomfortable that I was laughing out loud at the sheer insanity of it all when it is the sober topic of war but the progression of events…and then it got worse…just became more and more outrageously ridiculous. Laughed out loud, Dot. You idiot.

Here’s an idea: spend less time online trying to prove you’re the smartest man in the room and more time trying to understand how politics works and how electorates change hands.

The topic was the 2020 elections being overturned.

I think The Great Combat may also be in his 461 Sqn history “They Shall Not Pass Unseen”.

Individual aircraft had a specific identifying letter. See Lancaster G for George in the AWM.

Aircraft U of 461 Squadron (U-461) had the undoubted pleasure of sinking German submarine U-461 in one of life’s happy occurrences.

Why, it could almost be like 1956 again, when some of our neighbours were ‘part aboriginal’ but you never heard about it in general conversation and their kids went to school just as we did except more regularly, joined in with community activities probably more than we did, kept a tidy house and were role models of goodness as neighbours and working folk.

Amazing, isn’t it? It was years before I discovered that my uncle’s wife and her mother were of Aboriginal descent – Torres Islands, as it turns out. Both women were delightful and “motherly”, particularly my Auntie Bet, who was more embracing of my childhood idiosyncrasies than most. Yes – they were of “darkish” skin, but it never occurred to me – and nothing was said at the time – that they were of indigenous background. Both lovely women, with none of the “bitchiness’ of the other side of the family’s women!

I did feel a little bit uncomfortable that I was laughing out loud at the sheer insanity of it all when it is the sober topic of war but the progression of events…and then it got worse…just became more and more outrageously ridiculous. The Russian admiral and his rude names for the incompetents beneath him was particularly patient under extremely trying circumstances.

Some here seem to think Donald Trump is the messiah….he isn’t and he never was. He’s human…very human….which is why I loved him. He made mistakes however his huge successes outweigh those mistakes. What concerns me is that the emotional reaction on the right to the “the big steal” and this is no different to the Democrat dummy spit after 2016. I find it embarrassing and I think people should focus on the future.

When I think of Donald Trump I am reminded of an anti-hero from a John Ford western. The character Trump reminds me of is the John Wayne character, Ethan, from my favourite western The Searchers (as far as I’m concerned it is one of the greatest westerns ever). Trump, like Ethan, comes home to do a job, he completes the job yet there’s a new world which has no place for him, people move on. Trump magnificently outed the swamp, the MSM scum, the GOP scum and so on but working class and middle America and the Republican party need to move on and they need to heal. Like Ethan in The Searchers, Trump needs to depart the scene with dignity, rest on his laurels, walk away and hand over to someone like Ron De Santis….who is young, attractive, clever, urbane and with a phenomenal track record governing Florida.

Anyway, that’s my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, I love Orange Man Bad and I wish for America and the world that he’d won in November 2020 but the fact is that he didn’t.

They already know and Trump probably also won the 2016 popular vote as well as 2020.

I was just kidding around. I love all of the North East. I haven’t been to WV but I can imagine that it has some gorgeous natural attributes. The entire east coast appears to me to be one huge forest.

Yes it’s beautiful country, everything is verdant and well watered. So different to Australia, here if you go inland from the coast for 100 – 200 kms, all you see is dry, scrubby countryside, or struggling sheep and wheat properties.

…That isn’t already in play to determine the who, what, how and when of the various acts of political skulduggery and electoral manipulation in the various States and Counties identified as anomalous, the overturning of the laws that permitted said skulduggery and anomalpus behaviour, and the massive wobbly-chucking the Democrat Party and its associated coteries of activists and bugmen alike have carried out in reply.

They publicly overreached twice in Georgia with the 2 Senate seat election shenanigans at the end of 2020, then put themselves on notice with last year’s efforts to defeat Gavin Newsom’s recall election in California last year. The Virginia State Election was the warning shot to the Dems- The mid-term salvo is going below the waterline.

Cassie – There’s something very Asimov about Trump. He reminds me of Bel Riose in Foundation. Bel Riose of course is Asimov’s rendition of the Belisarius story, and psychohistory is basically the seeming inevitable inertia of the decline and fall that Gibbon described. Bel Riose/Belisarius tried with a lot of success to reverse that inertia. Trump unfortunately didn’t grasp how deep the corruption was, and how his own party were in on the corruption, so wasn’t then able to go the full Belisarius. Which raises the interesting question of what he will do if re-elected, since he now knows exactly what he’s facing.

It’ll be a wild ride however it turns out.

The basic difference between 2016 and 2020 is that the 2016 election was fair and caught the demorats off guard: they never expected Trump to win until belatedly they realised and then they commenced their wussia hoax machinations.

By contrast the 2020 elections were fraudulent from arsehole to breakfast and established a precedent for future demorat cheating. I still think there is a 50:50 chance biden and his fellow scumbags will find a way to call off the mid-terms.
