NRL trials are glorified training runs.
Especially for forwards to get match fit.
From what I’ve seen this evening, the Dogs pack is big, slow & some are still carrying the Christmas pudding.

How about reality. Stalin took those countries over after the Yalta carve up. Poland , Hungary, Czechs and the rest don’t want anything to do with Russia and have begged the west to join their defensive grouping – NATO.

Good for them.

NATO is no longer fit for purpose and the US is becoming a somewhat unreliable ally (“harmless as an enemy, treacherous as a friend”, Bernard Lewis).

The Europeans need to be prepared to defend themselves against Russian aggression.

The Hungarians are intending to adopt Macron’s suggestion of W. European strategic independence.

That’s the way they need to go.

If this is correct, it looks like they are securing the south east along the Dnieper from Mykolaiv-Kherson to the Dnieper Bend and then across to Kharkov

The New World Order of the 1990s promised so much. But it’s difficult to avoid the impression that contained within its Cold War-framing are the seeds of our current crisis. There was a chance to bring Russia into the fold, rather than isolate it as an enemy. And it was missed.from Spiked

Why is NATO apparently so determined to antagonise Russia by creeping closer and closer to the Russian borders?

NATO is a defensive alliance, although Daniel Greenberg last night correctly observed:

NATO represents no real threat to anyone or anything. NATO indeed is barely functional. Like most western institutions.

Which is obvious. Thus the whole NATO stuff is garbage. On the other hand there were signs that Ukraine was moving closer to the wet European model of politics. That has now changed, violently.

Sort of, but the Dniepr River offers a securable, defensible border.
Mind you, The Ukraine would have to give up about 45% of her territory to get that security benefit.

How long have they been free from the USSR already?

Now they’re about to join NATO to “protect them” they’re in the process of being fucked up.

All of the FSU states would have been far better off not giving up any weapons, telling NATO and the Euroweanies to fuck off, and forming their own mutual defence block.

What’s happening now is so predictable, the Euroweanies court them into NATO, then mail them a few man portable weapons when shit gets real. The only mild display of integrity has been by the UK who as at least given them some tangible weapons and training.

Basically it’s baddies versus idiots. Who the fuck in their right mind would trust “The West”?

We certainly shouldn’t go to Ukraine or get dragged into ancillary conflict. Plus I don’t want to get lit up by hard X rays of a thermonuclear warhead exploding near me.

A question I have pondered more than once too Rosie in last 8 years. I don’t understand the risk vs reward trade off at all. All Europe has to do is wait a generation or two, the younger generation in eastern European states is already more liberal than parents. You can bet your bottom dollar within a couple of generations so will be all the old Soviet republics and maybe even Russia itself. All the EU has to do is wait.

Also real energy independence.
If you don’t have it, you’re not a real country.

If you can’t successfully blockade Australia (ie. we don’t really need anything), then as an aggressor you’re in a spot of bother.

12 months National service and the ability to buy your own rifle afterwards would render Australia unbeatable in a defence conflict within 10 years. All you need for defence is riflemen, drones and man portable weapons, you don’t need to be able to push them back into the sea, you just need to be able to bleed them.

Imagine a swath of parents in China not even getting a body bag back. Only child disappears into Australia in combat never to be seen again. The CCP would get torn apart from the inside.

Of course this cheap and commonsense defence approach will never happen. You forge a good sword, but it’s a double edged one. You think that 10 years on National Service Conscripts would take kindly to the last 2 years of abject bastardry?

Honestly, do you have a functional brain and I mean this in the sincerest way. Gliding has two forms of competition – racing and acrobatics.

Let’s leave aside acrobatics.

If surfing is an act of God in terms of the quality of the wave one takes on, then speed in a gliding competition is similar. It’s not identical, but similar. In other words if one gets a fast wind current they win vs someone unable to find one as speedy.

And given the choice of living in fear or going for sunny optimism, I chose the second. I never feared the WuFlu, the numbers weren’t scary at all. And I’m not worried about Putin starting a nuclear exchange over Ukraine because I’m pretty sure he’s not that daft.

I find that not reading newspapers or watching television stops me having panic attacks about current affairs. Or maybe I’m just not attracted to hysteria. There’s a lot of it about, but much more entertainment in life that is pleasantly soothing. So carry on having a good panic if you like that sort of thing, and I’ll just watch you and laugh at you.

If surfing is an act of God in terms of the quality of the wave one takes on, then speed in a gliding competition is similar. It’s not identical, but similar. In other words if one gets a fast wind current they win vs someone unable to find one as speedy.

The difference being that you need to find many thermals on a given task of several hundred kilometers and finding the best path through the air between them is nearly as important. Then add up the results over 5 to 12 days. The “luck” tends to be averaged out and the usual suspects are found at the top of the score sheet. Few win more than one or two days in a contest and it has been known for a person who won no days to win the contest as they just place highly every day. It is an esoteric skill to look at the clouds, the ground, the gliders ahead, eagles or other birds , smoke from fires, instrument indications, the sound of the air over the canopy, the changing g loads, indications of changes in the meteorological situation and other inputs and extract the maximum power from the atmosphere. It all boils down to a time for task. The only “judge” is the clock. No subjectivity.

What’s happening now is so predictable, the Euroweanies court them into NATO, then mail them a few man portable weapons when shit gets real. The only mild display of integrity has been by the UK who as at least given them some tangible weapons and training.

I may be wrong (it has happened before), but I was under the impression that most of the NATO members didn’t want Ukraine to join. The US was pushing for it but most European nations didn’t want Ukraine in NATO.

I wouldn’t blame them, they wouldn’t want to upset their energy provider, and they would view Ukraine as a US State Department member rather than a valid nation, so they wouldn’t want to become embroiled in any future US / Russia ideological issues.

Latest on the Ben Roberts Smith case.

Multiple SAS witnesses, in recent weeks, have objected to giving evidence that could see them prosecuted unless they were issued what are informally known as “immunity certificates” by Justice Anthony Besanko.

But Person 4’s barrister, Ben Kremer, told the court those certificates would not offer “complete protection” from investigation or prosecution.

Dr Kremer told the court Person 4’s testimony could still be used by prosecutors to launch an investigation into the allegations against him.

Person 4’s evidence, the court heard, could be used to guide an investigation and may lead to criminal charges in Australia, Afghanistan or in the International Criminal Court.

Dr Kremer said the court could not offer “effective protection” against prosecution.

“This kind of evidence is exactly the sort of thing that could be used in prosecution under this regime without any protection from the certificate,” Dr Kremer said.

The first bombs to fall were on a small Serbian village which had only one industry, a shoe factory. One of the locals was interviewed and asked for his thoughts, he said he was puzzled about why Madeleine Albright, then the US Secretary of State, chose to bomb his village first as that village sheltered Madeleine and her parents during WWII, they were German Jews who escaped the Holocaust by fleeing through Yugoslavia.

After the injections:

Eyes: 3 x distinct cases of “floaters”, one after each injection, necessitating a visit to an ophthalmic registrar at the hospital

Lethargy: I have never fallen asleep in the middle of the day before; now I do while at the computer. Walking requires almost more effort than I can muster. It is intermittent.

Pain: Myalgia-like pains immediately after the injections; ongoing; left hip/lower back, right knee and ankle. Almost immobile on awakening. Struggle to bend to pull on jocks. Standing after sitting can be agony; short, acute “grabs” of pain.

I repeat: this is all purely circumstantial BUT I had NONE of these problems before the vax. Make of it what you will.

4 Corners just did a hit on Putin. Looked at opposition leaders, vote harvesting in elections and protestors arrested and tortured.

All we heard about the opposition was that they wanted freedom for Russia. All very nice.

At the very end a Putin supporter tried to sum up his view of what was happening and one thing he mentioned was that it was a cultural struggle against Western values.

When people say they want freedom in Russia they mean embracing the kind of rot that we have in the West. Putin is wealthy and lots of Russians are poor. No different here. Cops are politicised there. Same here. But Christian churches are safe and still have standing there. There’s no gay pride centre funded by government, no Mardi Gras, and no bullshit apologies for crimes supposedly committed by previous generations. Yes back in 2021. It’s old news but known news. Just because you couldn’t find anything about it doesn’t mean anything. Why would you even care? You certainly had no hesitation taking the vaccines that are abortion-tainted.

Multimerization was observed when evaluating the Novavax against different forms of the spike protein. Researchers designed a test in HEK-293T cells to better understand what they had observed. It was hoped it would be an ethical vaccine, sadly not the case.

Russian exporters ordered to convert most foreign currency to rubles

The measure is meant to support the domestic currency, which has weakened under the pressure of Ukraine-related sanctions

Russian businesses that trade abroad must sell 80% of their foreign currency earnings and convert them to rubles, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement on Monday. The decision comes in response to sanctions targeting Russia’s financial system over the crisis in Ukraine. It is expected to stabilize the ruble and encourage more investments in Russia instead of moving foreign currency abroad.

“Today, a decision will be made to introduce a mandatory sale of foreign currency in the amount of 80% of their revenue under all foreign trade agreements starting on February 28, 2022,” the statement said.

Effectively, this means that relevant firms must now exchange a vast share of their forex earnings into Russia’s national currency in order to keep the funds within the country, so that they can be spent on national projects instead of investments abroad. The measure has been jointly put forward by the Ministry of Finance and the Russian Central Bank as one of the ways to ensure Russia’s economic stability in the face of Western sanctions, introduced last week following Moscow’s launch of a military operation in Ukraine.

Moscow describes the operation as the “demilitarization” and “denazification” of the neighboring state, while a number of Western nations see it as an “unprovoked” aggression. These nations include the US, EU, Great Britain, and a number of others. The allies jointly hit Russia with various economic sanctions targeting the country’s economy. The US and the EU also announced on Saturday they would freeze the assets of the Russian Central Bank.

Russia has been launching counter-measures of its own. Earlier on Monday, the Central Bank urgently raised the key rate from 9.5 to a record 20% per annum, explaining the move by the “drastic change” in the external conditions for the Russian economy. The Central Bank also announced additional measures to support credit institutions and recommended that banks not charge interest and penalties on loans, as well as allow the restructuring of payments.

So Dover, the weren’t exactly invited but they in fact applied for membership. I’m glad that’s cleared up .

Today we make clear that we support these countries’ applications for MAP.”

Don’t mind at all to see actual evidence that testing was conducted. My conscience regarding vaccines is entirely clear and in line with long standing Catholic teaching.
As there is a good chance annual boosters might be on the cards the more information regarding different vaccines, the better.

I am not happy about that. I thought I was avoiding ethical issues by not having AZ.

This link to Google Earth 3D view is basically the same view as the painting currently in Dover’s banner.

The scene in the painting may have been possible back before the fossil fuel revolution when people chopped trees for firewood wherever they could.

Dot

The Ukraine is a US state department funded money laundering machine.

Haven’t you figured this out yet?

DoverBeach:

Along the Dnieper, yes, from the Bend across to Kharkov, I don’t know. Probably not, but it’s not a defensive line really so much as something to bargain with.

The line Karkov/Dnepopetrovsk? is mainly farmland and bog.(Using Google Earth) The defensive line would have to be along the E105 and frankly, I wouldn’t like to attack or defend anywhere to the east of the Dniepr River after a bit of rain.
I realise a map is not the terrain, but unless one was a local and knew the safe bits to travel on, it’d be easy to bog vehicles to an almost inextricable position.

My conscience regarding vaccines is entirely clear and in line with long standing Catholic teaching.

It is not ”long-standing teaching”. What the Pope said about the vaccine is his opinion only. Relying on your ”conscience” is also not a ”long-standing” teaching, only something that arose after Vatican II. Someone can say their conscience is clear even after murdering someone else – that does not make it a moral or ethical good. It just means they have a mal-formed conscience.

Something that begins in evil is not morally right regardless of the outcome. This is actually a ”long-standing” teaching.

1942 Mosin ,91/30 or M38?, Ishevsk or Tula?

1942 M91-30.. Made at Izhevsk (Soviet Union) . I have done a sniper conversion with genuine scope and turned down bolt.

It can hit a man sized target to 500m reliably, 750 sometimes!

You by the way have no idea what moral considerations I pondered before I made any decisions about getting vaccinated or not.
And as if God cares what you think about me.
And without hesitation many devout Catholics in full knowledge vaccinate their children with vaccines that owe their existence to those same unfortunates.
so many vaccines

Zero chance I’ll ever rely on anyone here other than possibly CL or Dover as a guide to moral theology.

You know, ”rosie” I never even said anything about you personally – but you certainly took the information personally.

That says something about you in a nutshell.

  1. Not nice, not polite, but not racist: Hanson’s lawyer defends tweetA tweet telling Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi to “piss off…

  2. Translation: the government hasn’t a clue and is simply reacting to a problem they created. I trust Mark Dreyfus sleeps…

  3. Labor MP Andrew Charlton says the government is working “incredibly hard” across a whole range of fronts to ensure community…
