According to the Courier Mail George Christiansen tested positive to Covid and amongst other things taking Ivermectin. Naturally CM does not approve. He says he had it prescribed before it was banned for Covid use.

Well done George. Funny that people outraged. I am outraged that for such a deadly virus the CHO says go home and take a Panadol which is also one of the things he is taking.

Australia’s part in the 1900 attack on China, usually titled “The Boxer Rebellion”.

There is a nice Chinese bell hanging outside the wardroom of HMAS Penguin, in Sydney Harbour, and a rather primitive muzzle-loading gun at HMAS Creswell / RAN College in Jervis Bay. Probably lots of other souvenirs scattered around the country.

Actually, while I have your attention, let me tell you about a new vineyard.

Sew and Sew. (Not to be confused with Stitch and Bitch).

About $30 at my local so probably $25 elsewhere, but the quality of the wines I have tried (Pinot Noir and Syrah) has astounded. I have had wines twice the price not as good. Lovely depth of flavour, and well balanced so you can sit there picking out one sensation after another. You know how cheap reds have just one flat flavour – a kind of ‘off’ fruit juice with an aftertaste you feel in your gums around the teeth? This is something else.

I gather they are new and that is one reason they are keeping their prices down – get people trying their wine before letting things settle at a more natural price.

Apart from Pinot and Syrah they also do what they call ‘Nero’ (I assume an Italian style) and a GSM – which I cannot quite bring myself to buy yet because I got so bored of Chateau Neuf du Pape, which is what Australian GSM’s are copying while forbidden from referencing the original.

But seriously peeps, good wine.

Well got rejected again ! Courier Mail might as well be a department within TGA/Qld Health.

“I recall CHO saying if test positive go home and take a Panadol. Panadol is on Christiansen list.

He has made a decision based presumably after consulting medical advice.

Perhaps the CM might find the letter TGA sent to Dr’s about Ivermectin in September 2021. Coincidentally that was a few days after Rogan mentioned his use of Ivermectin. Then have a look at YouTube channel of Dr John Campbell where he analyses the TGA letter.

I guess we should be grateful the article does not describe Ivermectin as a horse dewormer which has been the usual practice to describe this Nobel prize winning drug for use in humans.”

It amazed me we could do that. I did my PPL right at the end of the era and could find country airstrips.

I’m CPL(H) & learned before governed throttles. A wac chart is pretty short on features, & feels like navigating with a page torn from an atlas.

In gliders we used pilotage – look around at horizon and work in with help of map. Always knew where we were. Helps that you stop and circle relatively often.

Hats off to you. I’ve been up in gliders, but never as the driver.

GPS helped on a lot of ways. How far and bearing to next point but less SA as to where you actually were in relation to nearby towns.

It didn’t happen to me, but when GPS turned up, more than one bloke I know reported that on a regular run over featureless terrain (eg a DPI camp in the Simpson Desert or somesuch) that with GPS they were using the same flightplan, yet flying over country they’d never seen before. (embarrassing)

Oz Runways and Avplan running on iPads or Android tablets have taken a lot of workload out of flying cross country. Real time weather radar, met reports, automated flight planning and filing, traffic. It’s great. Lots more time to look outside.

For fixed wing jocks perhaps. Us spinny-types do little else but look around – mainly at the ground coz for us a 3-D model of the gliding circle pretty much resembles a lampshade.

The syphlytic dry husk of a man, with all vigour and colour leached out by past sexual excess, shuffling eagerly along after anything showing the least sign of being in heat – including cigarette butts and discarded pizza-pockets, would normally be easily caught.

But then behind him the alcoholic lush, veering off one side then the other, swearing, kicking inanimate objects blaming them for her loss, stopping for a swig, then heading off in the wrong direction until turned around by bemused onlookers enjoying the display, never quite catching up…

Further to that [reading Japanese Codes for 10 years] Washington ordered the 4 Carrier Groups at Pearl Harbor to set sail in 4 different directions
middle of November 1941.
One of the dweebs was off the coast of China when the bombs sank the old WW1 battleships at anchor in Hawaii.
What a coincidence, eh?

Those “old WW1” battleships were to be the main instrument of fighting a naval war against the Japanese in the Pacific. It would be a cunning plan, worthy of the great Grogarly himself, to go to war, having allowed the main instrument you plan to fight that war with, to be wiped out on the first day….

I will have to do some research but that style of church, seen almost everywhere in eastern Australia, may have started its life as a “kit”. Someone from the old Inland Mission once told me this, that they were semi-made up and shipped to places where new parishes were established. There may have even been a choice of window for the stained glass feature. Those old pedal organs went everywhere.

Can’t really agree, Calli. The story stands for itself as the story of a known major discovery.
Sutton Hoo is one of the most famous treasure finds in world archaeology.
It is well known way beyond academic circles. Somewhat in the league of Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb or Schliemann’s claims to have found the jewels of Helen of Troy in Troy’s ancient site (a treasure indeed, but hardly Helen’s).
The famous Sutton Hoo warrior mask is on the covers and in colour plates of countless books.
The discovery recently of the ‘hidden’ eye of Odin made headline news in the World press.

Generally, when writing reviews about interesting new discoveries (as with the one I wrote on ‘Van Gogh’s Ear’ – also in Quadrant – I try to avoid spoilers). It seemed less necessary here.

Last Church Service after 140 years:

I hate to see these little sacred places auctioned off, often for peanuts, to be turned into holiday dwellings, whether they are built to a prefab formula or not. 150 years is a long time in Australian history. The churches signal the times when people dwelt in the surrounding lands, and should stay as places of reflection and historical interest, and in their memory as small monuments. Surely a small fund for maintenance would be no great burden for a Council or a Church organisation to bear?

That is my view about such small country churches in Britain, where the time depth is often extraordinary. In the case of my small threatened church, it goes back to at least the Norman Conquest and the Doomesday Book, but probably much earlier, as a sacred site amidst fens and salt marshes. I am appealing to the Church of England’s ‘Mission Pastoral and Property Committee’ and also the ‘Churches Conservation Trust’, but as someone mentioned earlier, the competition for saving such places is fierce and funds are few. Small charities like the ‘Friends of Friendless Churches’ do their best, but in Britain more heritage attention is given to far less worthy structures while the religous pattern of village life over many centuries or millenia, the ritual landscape when viewed in toto, is given short shrift. It’s like selling off Stonehenge.

She’s a Queenslander (I think) who went to Hollywood and worked as a script writer. Anyway, she returned to Oz a few years ago and she’s created an app called “Giggle”, a female only space where women and girls can connect with each other to find flatmates, travel companions, fashion and style tips and so on. The app uses an AI identification system to identify females. It’s designed specifically to be a safe space for women. So what could be wrong with that?

Well, you see we now live in a society where you can’t have safe spaces for women without incurring the wrath of the activists, specifically the creepy and sinister transgender activists. So guess who’s offended by this app? The trannies, those men who think that just because they put on a frock and lipstick and identify as a woman, despite still having a swinging penis etc, they then have the automatic right to invade women’s safe spaces.

So in respect to Grover and her app, we now have a situation where one, I repeat one, tranny activist has lodged a discrimination complaint to the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) “on the basis of gender identity because Grover’s app doesn’t allow anyone who is not a biological female being able to register on the app“. But here’s the chilling part, the AHRC is insisting that in order to resolve the complaint, Grover must undertake sex and gender re-education and allow males who simply “identify” as women on the app.

If this is not pure misogyny, I don’t know what is. Oz 2022. Frightening isn’t it? Totalitarian re-education, all because Grover wants her app to be a safe space for biological women.

Sal Grover should tell the AHRC to fuck off.

Modern, or “conceptual art” isn’t art at all. It’s one big circle jerk of pretentious twats trying to make themselves look sophisticated by ascribing meaning to something that’s completely meaningless… Why is it that the most talent-less and vacuous shit gets promoted by the art establishment? Well, it’s partly born out of elitism. If the artistic merit of a bunch of squiggly lines can only be appreciated by a select number of privileged insiders they can sneer at the uninitiated, and justify their own intellectual superiority.

Skier…me too! When you know the people portrayed, it really gets up your nose.

I looked at it as an amusing “take” on the role Parkes played in the historical event and all the characters surrounding it. What I did like was the way the bush was portrayed as a community having fun, with everyone knowing each other (and some knowing way too much).

She can ignore it because the AHRC cannot decide if a complained act is unlawful. The bloke who complained then must take it to the Fed Court. Check on Gaynor to see how that works out.

The AHRC should be abolished but scomo won’t do that and rub and tug will give it more powers, ie the power to adjudicate on illegality. Good luck then. Of course the Finkelstein recommendations will come into being under rub and tug and then you won’t even be able to comment on such things.

Anzac Day: Perth CBD parade can go ahead ‘open slather’ thanks to eased COVID restrictions
Rebecca Le MayThe West Australian
Sun, 3 April 2022 2:48PM
Comments
Eased restrictions mean the Anzac Day Parade through the Perth CBD can go ahead “open slather”, the Returned & Services League of Australia WA Branch says.

When the State was at Level 2 restrictions last month, RSLWA said a continuation would scupper the April 25 parade this year as it allowed no more than 500 people at an outdoor public event.

Assuming WA stays at its current Level 1 restrictions, parade attendees would only need to socially distance, RSLWA chief executive John McCourt said.

But RSLWA is encouraging people who are not family or friends of marchers to watch the live telecast instead.

“We’re not saying ‘don’t come’ but in such difficult circumstances, you’ve got different options,” Mr McCourt said.

He said the dawn service at Kings Park remained invitation-only for up to 500 veterans because RSLWA had to make a call during preparations last month, based on logistical considerations.

Last time Mr McCourt checked, about 50-55 local RSLs were running their own dawn service.

“They can plan any way they want as long as the existing COVID rules at the time allow it,” he said.

Mr McCourt said driveway dawn services looked set to remain popular post-pandemic, with 2000 RSLWA-badged candles selling out within a week, prompting another order of 2000.

Meanwhile Anzac commemorations across NSW will return on April 25 for the first time in three years as the state relaxes pandemic health measures.

Veterans Minister David Elliott said Anzac Day this year would again see diggers sharing stories and reminiscing.

“This year not only marks the first year since the Australian Defence Force’s withdrawal from Afghanistan but also the first time since 2019 that veterans will be able to reconnect with mates to attend their annual reunions free of restrictions.”

The traditional game of two-up will also be played across pubs and clubs along with full-scale dawn services in Martin Place and a march in Sydney’s CBD.

“Pubs and clubs play an important role on Anzac Day, providing a place for war veterans to gather, reminisce and share the Anzac spirit with their mates and families,” Hospitality Minister Kevin Andrews said.

“This will give an added incentive for people to head to their local,” he noted as economic activity increased across the state.

RSL NSW president Ray James welcomed the announcement and called on veterans of recent Middle East operations to join them in a place of prominence in the Sydney CBD March.

Fernwood doesn’t discriminate anymore. It allows males who self ID as “women” to join.

I know several Orthodox Jewish women in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs who no longer attend Fernwood because of that.

It’s the same with McIver’s Ladies Baths at Coogee…a female only baths that has been female only since the 1920s. But of course a creepy tranny activist had to protest and screech “discrimination”. This activist led a campaign claiming that McIver discriminates against “transgender women”. Quite. But the movie doesn’t. The tension builds with each clue until the final discovery. The perpendicular bow shot is the hurrah! That’s what is is!

Well, all I can say is that there are many ways to write a film review. Every reviewer has their own style and opinion and way of presenting the experience of the film. I wouldn’t like to review this film without mention of the nature of the treasure though. That would be very deficient, as would be not noting the differences between reality of the situation and the interpretive characterisation of it.

A similar point may be made about many films. Joe Dolce’s recent Quadrant review of the film ‘Nitram’ (Martin spelled backwards) about the Port Arthur Massacre is well aware of the pitfalls when it comes to reviewing something controversial.

Or, as I felt, something well-known in archaeology. If ‘The Dig’ kept some in suspense until the revelation about the finds, well, good for them. The film-makers made a fine and nuanced tale of the discovery but I doubt they expected all seeing the film to be in the dark about it.

Mid-State Television 6-8-9 had a cool logo in the 80s. It was a map of New South Wales with ‘Mid State Television’ written over it with stars for the dots of the ‘i’s corresponding to Dubbo, Orange and Griffith – the home towns for Channel 6, Channel 8 and Channel 9.

I don’t fancy a change room where pretend women with penises are roving around perving.
I find any female change room a bit of an unnerving challenge these days as you never know when one of these pretend women will pop up (as it were). In a change room at a swimming centre on the south coast I was once confronted by a sort of male person sitting naked to the waist with a very man-boob looking chest, seemingly taking a perverse delight in displaying this nakedness. Women in change rooms are not like that; we are quite modest. All the women were taking one look and getting changed in the toilet cubicles.

The Roll of Honour tells its own story. A little church with 26 of its Presbyterians going to WWI. And a fifth of them to WWII. I suspect that ratio is borne out throughout the bush. It seems to be on all the public memorials that I have seen.

What happens next?

The land was donated by a local family on the understanding that the land would revert to them if the church ever ceased to operate.

The land is now owned by a different local family, and as a consequence the land has reverted to them. The building was sold by tender, they bid on it and it was awarded to them.

So far so good. Not sure what his intentions are but he needs to put at least $10k into it on some urgent preservation work. The eastern wall is in poor condition. Then after that it needs part of the floor done and general timber maintenance on the outside. The basic structure is sound having been restumped and had roof work some time ago.

He could probably have the building pay for it’s own upkeep by hiring it out as a wedding venue. It’s quite idyllic and they have had ongoing requests for weddings there.

I had been thinking about putting in a bid on it, but enough going on at the moment!

For those of us who are not religionists, the first sentence above is entirely uncontroversial.

Even if not to do with safety (because being around men can be quite safe even in matters of women’s business), women at times want their own space for the sake of modesty.

Why would you want a church?

They’re usually cheap, well built and maintained and pretty much a blank slate on which to impose your own interior design and extend outwards. And you get to preserve local history as well. Win, win.

are there any conservative pin up heroes these days?

Gabz, most certainly not those young women who are on Gray Connolly’s twatter feed.

What is a conservative in this day and age anyway?

An endless accommodator or an unrepentant constant sell out?

Certainly not this uglee, cranky ol’ dinobore, if that’s any consolation, which of course it is not.

Sorry, Peoples. 😕

When age catches up with you .. LOL! .. 74 years young and spent 5 hours today working on a fence de-nailing, cutting (re-shaping) & re-installing palings .. not a problem .. until I stopped .. the body is worn out with aches & pains in places I’d forgotten about ..
Had an hour’s lie down and starting to come alive again .. methinx, the usual swim & riding may be off Monday’s agenda .. but the fence is dun! ..
thought about painting it later in the week but can’t believe fence paint is the same price as house paint these days! .. so a”natural” look in several shades of age from mixing old/older palings will be the final decor .. LOL!
worked at Berger Paints for years back in the 1980s & fence paint back then was retailing about 50cents a litre compared to house paint at around $4( it cost about 10cents a litre to produce compared to $1 for the household stuff) & now Bunnings want $40 for 4 litres or $80 for 10 litres.. ….!

areff, Tom & KD.
Re the machinations of footy clubs and short or faded memories.
I saw Liam Picken on the Front Bar last week.
He told the story about how it was touch and go whether he got a contract with Footscray. Their affiliate VFL club, Williamstown, offered to chip in $20k to get it over the line.
That got him on the list, which ended up with 198 games and a Premiership medal.
Twenty grand is not loose change for a VFL club and, to be fair, Liam himself is eternally grateful.
I heard a story that Willy approached his missus (who is a social influenza) to speak at one of their club functions.
The reply?
“No problems. My fee is $xxx”.

I go to an independent, ex roid gym; natty is all the rage.

Last time I went to a gym, was to help an idiot who tried to lift too many of those round things on a bar.
Didn’t work – he was still an idiot, on his way to being a room temperature idiot.

Why would you want a church?
They smell like a thousand farts, are usually next door to cemeteries and then there is all the poor sods who got hitched in there.
Bulldoze the fucking thing.

Why would anyone want to restore a shitty old car, which haemorrhages oil, goes from 0 – 46 in a couple of minutes, has no safety features or entertainment, and is basically a money pit?
Oh, right.
I have no business telling you that.
Fair enough.

Season 2 of YOUNG WALLENDER is very good tho you’ll need to watch season 1 to get the character backgrounds 1st …..
Katheryn Winnick’s (VIKINGS) latest role BIG SKY is a quite good detective/PI show .. now in season 3 tho, again, each season is a story continuation of the previous seasons ……

Winston

I’ve wondered why China hasn’t had a go at retaking Mongolia. After all, Mongolia was once part of China, and where a Chinese soldier once stood is forever China…

Worried that the Mongolians might develop an interest in Inner Mongolia? Where the Great Khan rode is forever Mongolian?

Mongolia will remain an independent country as it serves as a neutral buffer nation between China and Russia. Both the Chinese and Russian states would be happy with this situation, as are the Mongolians I expect.

I had been thinking about putting in a bid on it, but enough going on at the moment!

Yes, I’d buy our family one on impulse as it would be cheap, but The Boss says no. It also needs huge underpinning and ongoing maintenance. It should never have been left to get that bad. As with other re-found family members, we also have a lot of other things on with our children and grandchildren and commitments we’ve made there. If it was fixed by some heritage order many family members in the diaspora could contribute to charities to its maintenance and usage as a place of peace, a museum, a Festival church for Christmas and Easter etc. The Anglican Churches Conservation Trust garners all sorts of government and church funding and makes some money too from churches in its care by putting on heritage tours, literary tours, overnight Chlamping (a nite in a church), filming and function hire activites. Currently they keep 356 historic churches open, but there are thousands more with dwindling or no population.

As Rosie ironically alluded above, the simple answer is to bring communities back to the churches as churchgoers, as Catholics still do, which may work via outreach efforts when populations still surround the churches, but not when villages are depopulated or become part of commuter belts. The Church of England has lost its congregations as have all other denominations. A sad thing. But it should not also lose its embedded physical history in the landscape, the built form of the collective gatherings of people sharing their common worship of Christ in England. Letting churches stand as churches sends an important Christian message.

Lizzie:

ordinary people wondering what the hell is going on

It’s about people being presented with ongoing ‘crises’ that aren’t actually crises. The first crisis isn’t assimilated before the next one starts.
It’s to keep people mentally unbalanced so they throw their hands in the air and disconnect. When you leave the battlefield to the enemy, you have lost.
