The Bacon Tree
Two Mexicans are stuck in the desert after crossing into the United States , wandering aimlessly and starving. They are about to just lie down and wait for death, when all of a sudden Luis says………
“Hey Pepe, do you smell what I smell. Ees bacon, I theenk.”
“Is, Luis, eet sure smell like bacon. ”
With renewed hope they struggle up the next sand dune, & there, in the distance, is a tree loaded with bacon.
There’s raw bacon, there’s fried bacon, back bacon, double smoked bacon … Every imaginable kind of cured pork.
“Pepe, Pepe, we ees saved! Ees a bacon tree!”
“Luis, maybe ees a meerage? We ees in the desert don’t forget.”
“Pepe, since when deed you ever hear of a meerage that smell like bacon…ees no meerage, ees a bacon tree!”
And with that, Luis staggers towards the tree. He gets to within 5 metres, Pepe crawling close behind, when suddenly a machine gun opens up, and Luis drops like a wet sock. Mortally wounded, he warns Pepe with his dying breath….
“Pepe… Go back man, you was right, ees not a bacon tree!”
“Luis, Luis mi amigo… what ees it?”
“Pepe.. ees not a bacon tree. Ees….
Ees…..
Ees….
Ees….

With what is probably the biggest active warship in the Black Sea now sunk, one Alligator class assault ship sunk at anchor in Berdyansk on March 24th and two Ropuchas badly mangled in that same attack, it’s not an idle boast…
Re the Titanic, once got employed to write encyclopedia entries on maritime matters. Quite a good gig if you know the subject matter beforehand, and write it out and then fact check.
It broadened outside my initial list of naval stuff, and like a clown I accepted several topics I didn’t know much about, thus necessitating hours more of research. One subject was the Titanic.
There have been hundreds of books and articles written, and the conspiracy theories are rampant. Others in addition to KD’s above include a workman being trapped in the hull compartments, whose ghost of course was angry; a fire raging for days as she sailed; and the distress calls being ignored.
Sorry- Here is the entry on the Ropucha. Nasty little landing ship, that one. Lots of teeth…

With Russian 3 amphibious assault ships and their biggest and most powerful escort (Flagship?) out of the equation, I suspect any amphibious operation along the River Bug or to take Odessa is now very much out of the question.
a fire raging for days as she sailed
I thought the bunker fire one was a real thing (and not uncommon on ships). But that it had nothing to do with the sinking?
Which gives me an excuse to post this awesome little piece.

The foreign military advisors, agents and probably scientists are not going to fight the Russians. So their countries can not count on them being killed and disappearing. They will surrender and the Russian will get information from them and probably swap them for assets. The US and EU has to keep it secret and must be desperate. The Ruskies have the winning hand here.

TE, it’s an established fact that there was a fire onboard in the coal bunkers, the last photos of the Titanic before she left Cork shows some some damage and dis-colourisation of the hull where the fire was burning. This contributed to the tragedy as it buckled the partitions in the hull (I don’t know the nautical term for them, bulkheads?) so when seawater flowed in one partition, it flooded others as well causing the ship to go down. A breach of one partition and its subsequent flooding wouldn’t have sunk the ship.
A fireman on board the ship testified to this at the commission which investigated the sinking.
Similarly, a rescued radio operator also testified that distress calls were made but were ignored. The radio operator sent out a distress call to a nearby ship but the operator on that ship had turned his radio off for the night.

Utter nonsense.
The Titanic was designed to remain afloat if any four partitions were flooded. Photographic evidence shows the tear caused by the iceberg extends across 5 compartments, so she was doomed.
That radio operator on the other ship had attempted to warn Titanic of the icefield, but was told to shut up as the Titanic’s radio was fully engaged in sending telegrams for the passengers.
Queensland Health have issued instructions that doctors can’t give venom immunotherapy to patients within 48 hours of receiving the vaxx injection.
If someone got the vaxx jab and that was followed by an anti-venom jab, that would neutralise the venom in the vaxx, we can’t have that happening now can we.
What a strange situation, imagine if some bloke in Queensland went to his GP for his vaxx booster, and when he left the surgery he was bitten by a snake in the GP’s surgery carpark. Imagine his surprise if he returned to the surgery and asked for an anti-venom shot and his doctor said “sorry, can’t help you, go home and die quietly.”

Lots of really cheesy stuff there. I lived through it.
Yet, Christian folk-rocker Larry Norman was better than any of them and was in the same ballpark as Dylan. His 1972 song “Reader’s Digest” is a brilliant essay on popular culture. The killer line about Lennon’s “we’re more popular than Jesus” was “Dear John, who’s more popular now?”
This was in the middle of Jesus Christ Superstar and the rise of the Jesus People. A great song that was a sly and cynical critique of the Zeitgeist of the 60s and early 70s. Larry Norman’s Reader’s Digest is on YouTube. I’m too dumb to link it but it’s worth listening too. Christian without being too naff.

we are a week away from the White house claiming Vladimir Putin shit in Bidens pants and ran away.
Now that Russia has suffered its most humiliating naval loss since 1905, we are starting to hear from Putinists about how “provocative” this is, and the importance of allowing Putin a “win” to save face and avoid nuclear war. Oddly, invading a country, annexing parts of it, levelling cities, killing and raping tens of thousands of people is somehow NOT provocative! Be careful what you wish for, Squire.
The fireman who gave evidence at the inquiry said that he was in a watertight compartment next to the other partition where the coal was burning. He said that water flooded his compartment as the bulkhead had been warped by the fire, not through direct flooding through the hull. He was obviously not in one of the other five compartments.
The fire, indirectly, also contributed to the ship’s sinking in other ways. When coal was loaded onto the Titanic before its fatal voyage, there was a coal-miners strike in England so very little coal was available. They took on board whatever they could source which was only just sufficient for their journey. The fire together with their limited stock of coal influenced the captain’s decision to make haste to New York. The firemen were shovelling large amounts of coal into the boilers to make use of the available coal rather than let some of it smoulder and burn away in the bunker.
Therefore the Titanic was travelling at great speed through the night even though they were aware of icebergs around them (the radio operator’s message did eventually get to the bridge though the captain had already retired for the night), if they had cut their speed due to obvious safety concerns they would have run the risk of not getting to New York under their own steam.
The Titanic was opened up too easily by the iceberg as the builders had taken cost saving measures during construction. Some investigators a few years ago found that the builders used poor quality rivets on the hull’s side plates to save money. They had used more substantial rivets on the bow as that was the most likely point of collision but they had used the el-cheapo rivets on the side of the hull which was torn open by the iceberg.
Another contributing factor was Global Warming. There was a warmer than usual northern summer that year which meant that large parts of the northern ice sheet had broken away and had drifted further south than normal that year, ice bergs aren’t usually found in the trans Europe – USA sea routes.
So it wasn’t aliens, Jesuits, Cherman torpedoes, or crazy polar bears which sunk the Titanic, it was Global Warming.

Mr Albanese briefly addressed the issue as he left a Good Friday service at a Maronite church in Western Sydney, with both he and Mr Morrison largely taking a step back from the campaigning in recognition of the religious day.
Labor’s finance spokesperson Katy Gallagher has been forced to correct Mr Albanese after he told journalists a key election policy had been fully costed when it had not.

No he’s not. The idiot is from somewhere north west Sydney.
I can’t see how Twitter is worth $41 billion from an investor’s perspective. Twitter is a curious beast. It has enormous cultural impact in the West – a lot of the narratives that drive the culture originate from a relatively small number of Twitter users who propagate these to their Twitter followers, who then use other platforms to expound upon these narratives and broadcast them to the non-Twitter world. Which is huge, because the service Twitter provides does not have mass appeal. Its user base is tiny compared to the other social media giants, and its ability to generate revenue without reducing the size and engagement of its already small base is limited.
And being in control of Twitter does not confer that much control of the narrative because you can’t control its users. You can ban perspectives you don’t like, but only to a certain extent – a lot of Twitter activity seems to come in the form of people hating on those with opposing views as it’s a perfect platform for lazy moral grandstanding. However, if you remove the enemy voices, that all goes and Twitter becomes a dull ideological echo chamber like Gettr, or a siloed fringe like Gab.
Also, imposing too heavy a hand on what can and can’t be discussed, banning certain words etc, has unpredictable consequences. Take Twitter’s policies on posting ‘hateful content’. Its rules around anything LGBT – particularly T – seem counterproductive. It isn’t clear to me that booting users for misgendering someone or deadnaming them or whatever stupid shit Twitter does has done anything to advance the trans agenda. If anything, I suspect it has helped in no small way to fuel, albeit indirectly, the growing backlash against the radical trans agenda. I doubt this was what the progressive Bay Area types who run Twitter had in mind when they decided to clamp down on anti-trans ‘hate speech’.
To me, Twitter looks like a grossly overvalued property if you look at the ROI it can deliver – measured in dollars or in ability to control the narrative.
I was talking to Nick.
Stay out of it or it will be on!
Me too. Broke, starving and no alternative to socalizem.
Dammit Rabz! Now I need to go fire up my M48 and go kick the NVA out of Hué again.
We talked about this… 🙁

Riiiight, so the old walled city , out of Canakkale, that’s being excavated, isn’t Troy after all? Where do I get a refund?
Cats – a public service announcement.
Incredibly, the Wolf Alice gig on 26 April in Sydney at Lunatic Park is not sold out.
If you’d like to enjoy some good ol’ fashioned Rock ‘n’ Roll, delivered to you by a very aesthetically pleasing and infinitely talented Angel, then feel free to part with the requisite foldables and turn up on the night.
You know you want to. 🙂
Choo choo man attacks the man not the ball.
Why don’t you just fuck off you complete waste of skin.
Check your email you simpleton.
Don’t think it’s just website. Think of it like this.
1. How much advertising can it sell? Can you sell a subscription model too?
2. Are the ad sales potentially sustainable
3. Can the owner make a 15% return on the US43 billion investment over time?
In my opinion, it’s yes to all three.
In my estimate, they need to sell around 12 billion a year in order to achieve 15% return on the outlay. It is doable as I think the site is actually more newsworthy and potentially more trafficked than Fuckerbook.
Here:
Twitter’s revenues are growing okay. Also, Musk is a genius and he’ll get there.

Fuck you, Sanchez. I’ll see you in the carpark next to the pay-station. Who loses the fight pays the parking ticket.
I bet that you licked your eyes as you wrote that.

Yes that is possible but we need to elimanate subject 55 first.
Biggles never turns up Head Prefect, but just watch him brag about some shite.
His tag team pal the train driver will back him though.

Did you work on Good Friday? You mentioned to were under quota at the banana plantation and the owner was pissed? Did make it up today?
Isnt Springsteen the old rich guy who did a joint podcast with Obama ?
“Bourne – a hint – JC is this blogue’s biggest Springsteen fan.
He’ll always acknowledge you if you post a Springsteen clip.
Trust me on this”
Pay for Twitter? Watch out for the tumbleweeds.
JC, my impression of Twitter is that it has no-one in management or on the staff who knows how to run a business — just anti-social HTML coders like its founder Jack Dorsey whose defining feature is hatred of the human race and freedom.
They can’t run a business because they’re communists.
Totally true, Tom. Agree 100%, which is why I think it’s a bargain to someone who knows what they’re doing.
Head Prefect, yup had to work today, banana hunting is good this time of year.
I shot four & got another six with a grenade.
I also cornered another six on a train trying to escape…..they were yelling CHOO CHOO in fear I think.
I think they are checking their emails as we speak.
Finally, a good old fashioned Bird strike.
We’ve been through this, Struth-sock.
I only respond to telegraph and Party Line calls. And carrier pigeons when I’m feeling hungry.

I have the English language tied up in my basement, god knows I wish it was a 20 year old Britt Eklund.
Oh my goodness.
Bird’s gone so far up his fundament, he’s fallen for the joke!
Oy vey.
The Nano-wrigglers are staying in their ready racks today, Cats. They’re not needed. 🙂
Twostix.
Check your email.
There’s one suggesting you check your projected inheritance. Looks like the olds have bought another caravan.

Finally, a good old fashioned Bird strike.
Do we run a sweepstake on when his demographic preconceptions will reach their inevitable destination?
I don’t get Twitter’s value and FB only makes sense if they’re selling data to spooks.
Another scariant has arrived in Australia, the XE version, come on you jabbees time for another booster.

Just focus on what artists come out with to entertain you. Stop acting like a leftie by cancelling people.
Artists have zero idea on anything else and should be ignored if they get involved in politics.
As we do, except when we don’t, Graeme.
Which would be all the time.
FFS, Doves, bring an end to this Albonayzeeesque train wreck.
Arguing with St Ruth is one thing, beating up on the psychologically disturbed, we did not sign up for.
On this sad day for all Christians, the Director of Activities chez nous decided it would be nice for us both to take a ferry trip from Watsons Bay to Parramatta, and quietly enjoy the welcome sunshine on harbour and river. This is a local historical trip (Gov’nor Phillip rowed up-river to Parramatta soon after landing at Sydney Cove) that we had been promising each other to do in some spare moment sometime to see the old riverside areas I recalled from the 1950’s re-built into apartment towers to house the four million more people who live in Sydney now.
The D of A today neglected though to realise or care that it was fare-free for everyone today, the start of the Twelve Days of Plenty freebies for all the Sydney population on all public transport to ‘reward’ for the lockdowns. Watson’s Bay, a popular spot for picnics and family outings as well as tourists and less than ten minutes walk from us, was certainly a-humming with picknickers and other visitors streaming off the packed ferry, and hardly a European face amongst them. We boarded at 11.15am, headed for Circuolar Quay, where it seemed that most of the rest of Sydney, especially those from the newly immigrant areas south and west and north-west were packing it in with Covid-free maskless abandon, not much of it in evidence as ‘gay’. These were families and young people for whom a trip to the city and the harbour ferries was generally rather costly for a family stretched by lockdowns and inflation, so any freebie was welcome on a big Public Holiday when no work called. The atmosphere was friendly and eclectic. Street musicians were playing and holiness lived only in the sky, where a single plane skydrew a Cross in smoke as a small gesture, which dispersed quickly.
We then transferred to the River Cat for the trip upriver. You’ll have to get off at Rydalmere and take a short bus trip to Parramatta we were told, due to the tide being too low to go further – oh? OK. So we get off, there is no bus in this middle of the mangroves nowhere ferry stop, so everyone including us drifts back and boards the waiting ferry just about to leave, cancelling plans to continue on. The bus then arrives late, and a ferryload of new passengers stream down only to be denied entry due to the ‘Covid count’ regulations. No-one now trusts taking the bus. The ferry, we note agape at this nonsense, was still only about half full. There were no seating restrictions in place, less than half the passengers wore masks, and as we had waited to board at Circular Quay we were in a major crowd crush. Covid was over, that much was clear. But now Covid ruled.
Most of the new passengers were refused boarding and families heading for a day out were left stranded as our ferry departed. It was horrible and so unexpected. At every stop then, at least seven along the river to Barangaroo on the harbour, only the same amount of people who got off were let in from the waiting crowds of families with children getting hot and bothered. It was painful to see their disappointed faces as the half-empty ferry pushed off, leaving them there for the next one (not frequent) which might also be unavailable to them for the same ridiculous ‘Covid’ reason.
Good one, Sydney Transport. How to ruin many ordinary families’ big day out.
Watched an interesting – very different – movie on Netflix last night.
Sandstorm is set in southern Israel and tells how a Bedouin woman – a good wife and mother – copes with her husband taking a second wife. He is a wishy-washy, anything-for-peace man who can’t understand why his wife is a tad miffed with the new bride, the one he built a Hollywood-garish house for, while his first family cope with dingy rooms, back-breaking work and power outages when the generator packs up.
His oldest daughter is Daddy’s pride and joy – he even allows her to drive the Landcruiser. But she has met the love of her life at school and refuses to accept the pasty dude Dad has picked for her, and so the troubles begin. He’s also ticked off when wife #1 tells him to ‘be a man!’ during an outburst, which sees her banished to her parents.
The storyline is depressing; you know very quickly that there won’t be a happy ending. The setting is achingly desolate. I can’t even begin to describe it.
A good movie to watch when one needs reminding that Oz truly is a wonderful place to live.
Pulling outta Bucha led to a lotta local Russians getting murdered by Ukes.
Trying to limit civilian casualties leads to human Shield warfare.
Scott Ritter said if it hadda bin the US Army, they woulda destroyed all infrastructure and Comms on Day 1.
Yeah, our MSM lies all the time, but this war has been a disaster for Russia.
They had a Warship sunk yesterday.
It reminds me of the Trump Presidency, when Orange Man would hire some NeoCon with blood on it’s hands, the FanBois would cheer
But the reality was that he’s a corrupt idiot.
Putin’s the same.
We also now have it on good authority that Bird hates the Greeks.
After all, they couldn’t possibly have inspired Western culture. Brown-skinned, big-nosed, curly-haired bastards they all were.
Better to fantasise that it was Hektor Pryamsson and Aki Llies who matched axes at the gates of the wooden-walled settlement of Trøj. Mighty Valhalla-seeking champions standing between Menelöy, King of Derpenheim and Pryam, whose wicked second son Parys (Loki with a clumsy mask on) had carried off Menelöy’s wife Hallenia.
And Aki Llies and his Nano-Wrigglers hid inside a giant wooden reindeer (Nobody knows how they did the antlers) to get inside and raze Trøj.
You know it makes sense…
Shining or golden, oh enlightened one?
Dot
Don’t worry that it’s “just” a website.
Can they sell advertising space and can they engineer a decent subscription model? I think they can. Tom is right. The current management is fucking pathetic.
If Musk buys it, he needs to be very careful the current communist management don’t fuck up the site as it could then be worth zero if they screw it up. It’s possible they destroy it before being fired too. They appear to be a very vindictive group.
Thanks Bird. That was legitimately hilarious. 🙂
Hmmm.
It must be quiet over at the [I’ve asked people not to mention The Other Place here … Dover].
Bird, who’s Bob Elliot?
Biggles is back & with his fave subject….yay!!!!
Now this is what it is all about, Cats.
The Bird, running rampant. He’s better value than certain others.
Doves, please keep the ban hammer on ice.
Right on cue, Yo! 🙂
Is it more reliable than the AU variant, Struth-sock?
Franger!
you’re a blow in
fuck off
Can you imagine the shockingly stupid business decision to ban Trump? Trump made Twitter. Leaving aside the appalling decision to ban Trump from a speech perspective, the business decision to ban him was insane. Just totally insane.
A day late (at 3.38) and a dollar short, a bit of good old backup arrives from The Last Holdout:
‘We’? What?
Did you sell your boat too? What way? Yelling at people because they didn’t do things his way, or pointed out his attraction for bonzo bioweapon fake judge and trial sites? If you reckons that the way to go as well, then fill your boots but don’t expect support from me.
1. Again, who is ‘we’? Were you there? Because if you weren’t there, you don’t get to say ‘we’ all the way from densest Quenthland.
2. VicJack Inc corraled them into the Shrine, it wasn’t one of their protest sites, VicJack Inc behaved abominably once they were there and I am well on record for saying all of that.
Who is ‘we’? Did you turn up to the protests? Because I most certainly did, and you’d have known that had you not spent the last year crying into the couch about how the boomers have screwed you.
The only person here accusing people of cowardice is your mate the Peter Garrett impersonator and ex-boatie, and if he continues wading through the door with unsolicited abuse I’ll keep taking the piss out of him.
50,000 times if warranted.
‘We’. You palooka. I didn’t see you on the news and in the street complaining out front of Parliament House that the government YOU elected waited an additional three unnecessary months to let the punters go to the pub properly.
You’re obviously a fan of taking your impotence out on ‘enthusiastic Nazi bar staff’ as well. Because that’s St. Ruth’s way, which according to you is the way.
Cloaking yourselves in the deeds of others, ie protests you didn’t go to, and again a la St. Ruth, is apparently the way as well.
‘We’. Pfft. I’ll wait for the ‘I was there in spirit’ line, because that’s all you have left.
Wow! You still think there’s a difference between the two, Rabz.
bespoke, I was trying to be kind to both of them. 😕
Some Modern Psychedelia, Cats. 🙂
Hypotheses, Squire. One can only tolerate so much anti-scientific idiocy in the space of 24 hours. 😡
What happened to the Vikings, Graeme?
You jumped to Celts. What’s any of that got to do with Scandanavians somehow culturally out-Greeking the Greeks?
The Celts and Angles and Normans and Vikings only started intermingling once the latter three got bored and randy at home, and then got brave enough to rough their way across the North Sea and English Channel…
Wow. Channel Stokes’ evening news is dumping on Albo’s latest gaffe about Medicare.
It’s going to be hard for Albo if the media isn’t barracking for him, which he’d normally be able to expect.
And from whom have you drawn your magical Greco-Finnish geography from today, Graeme?
All we need is ssr and faulty over here and the furniture shop can close down. Maybe faulty can sell it for $10k. Must an echo chamber over there.
Of course it didn’t, Graeme. It’s your magical thinking after all…
That’s unemployment, the cash rate, offshore processing & now Medicare.
And still five weeks to go.
Will the new glasses and weight loss be enough to counter weigh his incompetence?
Lolwut? Every Bronze Age and earlier civilisation has had the ability to live off milk.
Are you now trying to claim humans only developed the ability to lactate and suckle their young kn the Classical era?
I’m sure Lizzie will be interested, Bird. She uses exactly the same methods.
