Central London was a scene of chaos on Friday evening as crowds of youths ran riot through the busy Oxford Circus area looting shops, fighting, jumping on luxury cars, and assaulting police officers. Met Police have confirmed that several people have been arrested as a result of the disorder

If we had Politicians with backbones in Australia – we would follow

Red states giving the boot to ‘woke’ firms seeking government business

More Republican-led states are refusing to do business with financial institutions that embrace a “woke” agenda on issues such as climate change, guns and other social issues.

It is part of a growing pushback among conservative elected officials against banks and investment managers that base business decisions and investment choices not on maximizing profits but on progressive views about environmental, social and governance issues or what’s known as ESG principles.

Notably, the ESG movement has major Wall Street firms putting the fossil fuel industry on the chopping block because of climate change, a move that could result in costly financial implications for energy companies, banks and taxpayers alike.

West Virginia was the first state to give some of the world’s biggest banks the boot, barring five major Wall Street firms — Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo and BlackRock, one of the globe’s largest asset managers — from doing business with the state. Citing the firms’ anti-coal policies or plans to divest from fossil fuels, the state will pull out tens of millions of dollars.

West Virginia is the second largest coal producer in the country, with coal and other fossil fuels accounting for the third-largest annual revenue source for the state, more than $750 million annually.

“You have your right to be able to boycott the fossil fuel industry, but we’re not going to do business with you. We’re not going to pay for our own destruction,” West Virginia Treasurer Riley Moore said in a recent interview. “They’ve weaponized tax dollars against the very people and industries that have generated those dollars.”

Corporate boards that follow ESG principles would note that coal is also the dirtiest fossil fuel and a significant contributor to climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions.

ESG stretches far beyond the environment to include fraught social issues like racial justice and the Black Lives Matter movement, gun control and LGBTQ issues. It also involves corporate governance issues including transparency and diversity measures such as imposing gender quotas for the board of directors.

The problem with ESG policies, said NYU Professor of Finance Aswath Damodaran, is that it’s “like nailing Jell-O to a wall” because they are based largely on what is perceived as good versus bad rather than set parameters.

“ESG advocates who complain about red states pushing back on ESG policies are like pyromaniacs complaining about how hot it’s getting.

You brought the fire into the game; you have to live with it,” he said. “The only people that win are ESG consultants, who make a hefty amount telling companies exactly what they should be doing.”

The head of RAF recruitment has resigned in protest at an “effective pause” on offering jobs to white male recruits in favour of women and ethnic minorities, defence sources have claimed.

The senior female officer apparently handed in her notice in recent days amid concerns that any such restrictions on hiring, however temporary and limited, could undermine the fighting strength of the Royal Air Force (RAF), the sources said.

They said the service was attempting to hit “impossible” diversity targets.

Weird thing is that lately, when I step onto the balcony with my first coffee (nice to drink strong coffee in fresh crisp air) magpies launch themselves from the surrounding trees and land on the railing and look at me. Seriously, yesterday I stepped out and with 30 seconds there were seven of them. Silent, as if waiting. Like, for what?

That’s nature red in tooth and claw, Mother Lode. They are checking out the opportunities.

Don’t blame them. They work in groups. You’re big and safe enough with a cup of hot coffee in hand.

Provide them with a little bread and meat and it becomes symbiotic – you get fun watching them and they get a little treat. No-one gets hurt. 🙂

Not all of it is pleasant and liberally democratic. That is a simple fact of history – if you’ve ever read any, which I do recommend for you. Washington Times Editorial – Solving Trump harassment

Only officialdom’s prosecution can stop the persecution

The pattern of politically driven justice has become sickeningly familiar: The Russiagate hoax, then failed impeachment No. 1 followed by futile impeachment No. 2. Next, the cover-up of potential criminality detailed on Hunter Biden’s laptop gives way to the made-for-TV Jan. 6 show trial. Push “play” to watch the next episode: the raid on the Florida residence of former President Donald Trump in search of classified documents. Officialdom cannot be expected to quit its vengeful compulsions until real justice serves it with genuine punishment.

The FBI officials and agents who planned and executed last week’s search and seizure at the Trump Mar-a-Lago estate belong to the very same FBI Counterintelligence Division that conducted the sham investigation of Mr. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign for colluding with Russia, according to RealClearInvestigations reporter Paul Sperry. And for their roles in the earlier, bogus scheme to frame the former president, those involved are under investigation by Special Counsel John Durham, he writes.

Accordingly, they should have been recused from any additional Trump case to avoid the taint of prejudicial motivation — but they were not.

Moreover, operatives allied with 2016 presidential race loser Hillary Clinton worked with Justice Department and National Archives officials, Mr. Sperry writes, to trigger the Mar-a-Lago raid as retribution for Mr. Trump’s sensationalizing of the 2016 email scandal in which Hillary narrowly escaped prosecution for mishandling classified documents. In Washington, there is no statute of limitations for vengeance.

Presidents have the prerogative to apportion archival records between personal and public use. Whether that privilege is recognized apparently depends on the president. Despite Mr. Trump’s authority to declassify documents, the FBI cites a possible violation of the Espionage Act as cause for raiding his home and confiscating a couple of dozen boxes. Among them, according to Trump lawyers, is personal material protected by attorney-client privilege that once seen, cannot be unseen. The FBI may have found a less-perilous method of wounding Hillary’s nemesis without using false claims to gain authorization to spy on him.

In glaring contrast, establishment favorite Barack Obama concluded his presidency and transported 30 million pages of administration documents to his Chicago library, according to the New York Post, with the promise to digitize them for public access. Did authorities examine each page for potential classification violations? Yet it is Mr. Trump who is targeted for criminal investigation.

“The FBI goes after Trump again, and this time, it has really blundered,” headlined a Washington Post op-ed by columnist Marc Thiessen. Indeed, the public is reckoning the raid as part and parcel of the serial legal abuse former president has suffered since throwing his hat in the ring for the White House.

Already a Politico/Morning Consult poll shows him widening his lead to 10 points over his potential 2024 Republican rival Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Americans hate persecution.

The FBI’s Mar-a-Lago raiders and their bosses deserve the presumption of innocence they haven’t accorded Mr. Trump, but it’s abundantly clear that officialdom’s obsession with harassing the former president will not cease until justice slams the jailhouse door on guilty fingers.

How accurate do you think ultrasounds are?

Depends on what body part you are looking at. Babies are pretty easy to find in the womb, usually. I had an ultrasound done on my knee a few weeks ago (torn meniscus) and it was essentially useless because there was too much swelling. So yeah, YMMV but they are very helpful in obstetrics.

Louisiana abortion law.

“Abortion” or “induced abortion” means the performance of any act with the intent to terminate a clinically diagnosable pregnancy with knowledge that the termination by those means will, with reasonable likelihood, cause the death of the unborn child, unless: necessary to save the life of the mother or prevent the serious impairment of a life-sustaining organ; the unborn child is deemed to be medically futile; or to prevent or remove an ectopic pregnancy.

Bar Beach Swimmer says:
August 17, 2022 at 9:43 am

An example of the overreaching of power in legislation seemingly as a matter of course is the push last year by then minister, Stuart Robert, to have the Trusted Digital Identity legislation passed into law. From the submissions, many Australians have pointed out that it could create in Australia a similar system to the Chinese Social Credit System.

Question is, is it still going through the processes under the bureaucrats to be made law? Will Labor as a matter of course take it up? Or with the Coalition loss has it fallen into the rubbish bin of stupid ideas?

I’d bet that it’s still coming along and it will be introduced by a Labor government rather than a Liberal one. Similarly, the RBA is now looking at digitising our currency, these two pieces of Big Brother control will probably be introduced simultaneously.

It matters not who lives in the Lodge, or what colour T-shirts their spruikers wear on polling day, the government is run by other people whom no one elected.

As an example, immediately after Labor won the last election it was announced that an investigation would be conducted into whether we really needed to order and pay for ten doses of the vaxx for every man, woman and child in Australia. This was not an election issue, neither Labor nor the Liberals mentioned this gross waste of public money in the run-up to the election, but it was apparently an important issue to the powers behind the throne.

Jane Halton (remember her) ran the inquiry and, of course, resolved that it was good and sound policy that we wasted millions (billions?) of dollars buying these drugs which will never be used.

Why was this inquiry run, it wasn’t an election issue for either party, someone somewhere wanted an exoneration on the public record (our secret Federal Health Minister?). Whoever these people are, they will continue working on the digital identity and digital currency and the elected government will push it through Parliament, and it matters not who forms government at the time.

The fetus is 13 weeks old, so they most likely did do as you say. The situation is now entirely clear, most likely due to the results from an MRI.

They were given the option of removal of the dead baby (as extreme hazard to remaining bub), abortion of both (considered safest at that stage) or continuing with medical support until surviving bub was far enough along to be delivered (premmie, but not hugely so) along with the dead bub.

They chose option 3.

Risk of electrocution from electric cars reduced with new technology (Phys.org, 16 Aug)

New technology, developed by researchers at the University of York, has proved successful in reducing the risk of electrocution to drivers and passengers of electric vehicles as a result of damage to the cars in major road accidents.

“The bus voltage in most electric car models is 400V, which is much higher than the voltage in our home systems at 230V, as well as industry levels at 380V.”

“To significantly reduce the risk of a fatal electric shock in the case of a car crash, we need the voltage to be 60V or less and to reduce to that level in under five seconds.”

Following successful mathematically modeling, the technology has now been trialed in a car powertrain testing system—an assembly of all the components that make the car run—and the team showed that voltage is reduced to 60V in under five seconds in the event of damage to circuits. This will ultimately protect drivers and passengers from serious injury or fatal electric shock.

So now you’ll only be fatally electrocuted for 4½ seconds. Isn’t science wonderful?

it is now an offence for a parent to refuse to support their child’s request for medical treatment that will prevent physical changes from puberty that do not align with the child’s new gender identity, and it is also an offence to deny their child access to any health care services that would affirm that identity.

And in case any parents thought they could seek counselling for their children outside Victoria, the Act now makes that an offence too.

When her father went to the school to get his distraught daughter it took him two hours to convince her to come home to her family, while she sat clutching a rainbow lanyard with the pronouns ‘they/them’ which had been given to her by the school.

During this time a private counsellor she’d been seeing was texting her encouraging her to leave her parents, telling her they were unsafe, and she needed an immediate safety plan and warning her not to let the sexual assault overshadow her gender issues.

This being decided at a state level is a good thing.

Might get to Bills idea of “safe, legal, and rare” state by state instead of a shonky lump of legal fiction that tried to be authorative but was decried as bad legal reasoning even by RBG.
Roe v. Wade, in contrast, invited no dialogue with legislators. Instead, it seemed entirely to remove the ball from the legislators’ court. In 1973, when Roe issued, abortion law was in a state of change across the nation. As the Supreme Court itself noted, there was a marked trend in state legislatures “toward liberalization of abortion statutes.” That movement for legislative change ran parallel to another law revision effort then underway-the change from fault to no-fault divorce regimes, a reform that swept through the state legislatures and captured all of them by the mid-1980s.
No measured motion, the Roe decision left virtually no state with laws fully conforming to the Court’s delineation of abortion regulation still permissible. Around that extraordinary decision, a well-organized and vocal right-to-life movement rallied and succeeded, for a considerable time, in turning the legislative tide in the opposite direction.

And if they were stupid enough to do that (as opposed to removing public funding for abortion clinics) they would be dead cert to lose the next election and the law would be overturned.

Not to mention they would have Buckleys of enforcing the law as it would certainly be resisted state by state by any ‘blue’ legislature.

So by forcing the decision to ban/approve etc to as low a level as possible any changes to state or federal legislation actually has a political consequence.
This should lead to a moderation of policies and sidelining of 100% extremists on both “sides” to the margins.
A great outcome.

Another Huge Red Flag in the Trump Raid Story

When he spoke to the media on Thursday, Attorney General Merrick Garland took offense to those who questioned the professionalism and integrity of the Department of Justice and the FBI.

“Let me address recent unfounded attacks on the professionalism of the FBI and Justice Department agents and prosecutors,” he said. “I will not stand by silently when their integrity is unfairly attacked. The men and women of the FBI and the Justice Department are dedicated patriotic public servants every day. They protect the American people from violent crime, terrorism and other threats to their safety while safeguarding our civil rights. They do so at great personal sacrifice and risk to themselves. I am honored to work alongside them.”

Well, Mr. Attorney General, if they’re so professional and full of integrity, can you explain why the Wall Street Journal apparently knows the contents of all the classified documents and supposedly “top secret” documents removed from Trump’s home and has apparently reviewed some of them?

“FBI agents who searched former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home Monday removed 11 sets of classified documents, including some marked as top secret and meant to be only available in special government facilities, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal,” the outlet reported. “The Federal Bureau of Investigation agents took around 20 boxes of items, binders of photos, a handwritten note and the executive grant of clemency for Mr. Trump’s ally Roger Stone, a list of items removed from the property shows. Also included in the list was information about the ‘President of France,’ according to the three-page list. The list is contained in a seven-page document that also includes the warrant to search the premises which was granted by a federal magistrate judge in Florida.”

Gee, if these documents were so incredibly sensitive and secret that the FBI had to conduct an armed raid of Trump’s home in order to retrieve them, how come the press is allowed to know the nature of the documents?

These documents are apparently too sensitive for Trump to possess but not so sensitive that FBI agents can’t show them off to the media.

He’s seen the recent redistribution that turns Goldstein notionally Labor.

He’s seen the State Teals.

The instruments by which Scott Morrison MP, was appointed to portfolios other than Prime Minister

From the Comments

– There was no additional remuneration involved, no constitutional law broken, no other laws broken.

The Governor General has confirmed that no constitutional law was broken, and that he would not have done what the PM requested if there had been.

But once again there is an example of the media pack and an opposition mode political witch hunt and that surely indicates that the Albanese Government is taking advantage of a diversion from the many serious issues they are now responsible for dealing with.

Listening to talkback radio comments, with some exceptions of people who are voices of reason and common sense, once again the lack of knowledge of Constitution, areas of responsibility and powers and generally poorly informed was obvious.

A group of us discussed the present general situation nationally and globally last night and that we are heading downhill and it will get worse as the left side of politics gains strength because voters choose that side, like dark greens now strengthened by pale greens and the two supporting Labor where most are leftists. And not leaving the Coalition out, many of those MPs are leftists, just not as far left as Labor and dark greens, about the same as the pale greens, and otherwise known as LINO left.

Good news. That won’t make the Jew haters happy, I always love it when Jew haters are miserable.

Further to Jew hatred and Jew haters and the murder of Jews by terrorist scum, a hatred which one commentator here thinks is “legitimate”, it’s coming up to fifty years since the wholesale slaughter of innocent Jews at the Munich Olympic Games. I remember it well, I was a child, my whole family were glued to the television and I remember my father openly weeping. One of the murdered Jews was a young man named Andre Spitzer, he was a fencing champion. Andre was newly married with a young baby (a girl), his wife was Dutch. This morning, his widow Ankie was interviewed on Israeli television and she reminded people that the Germans had prior intelligence about the the attack (East Germany was intimately involved in the attack, helping their Arab friends) and what was worse, when Israel, desperate to save it’s men from certain death at the hands of the terrorist scum, was prevented from doing anything by the Germans. And what ensued? We all know, ALL the Israelis died.

I’ll stop there as I getting upset.

Want to Return to Normalcy? Defund and Dismantle the FBI

It’s time to stop pretending that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is not fatally compromised, that it is salvageable, that it has not terminally declined from its glory days of commie-chasing and cross-dressing into a collection of regime toadies eagerly doing its Democrat masters’ bidding. GOP, you need to stop equivocating and playing footsie with these mediocrities in bad suits. After you take the House and Senate, refuse to fund the FBI. Not one dime. This must all end.

The FBI has simply outlived its uselessness. It must be shut down, in disgrace, and those duties that remain necessary must be parceled out to existing or new agencies that do not share its shameful legacy. This remedy is harsh, disruptive, even scary – count on the FBI and its friends to not-so-subtly promise retaliation against those trying to turn it off like the astronauts when they tried to pull the plug on HAL 9000. But it has to be done. This cannot go on – every day, the politicized FBI does grave damage to the foundations of American democracy (though we’re actually a republic, but whatever).

It’s a big ask from a GOP caucus that can’t even put together the testicle collection necessary to defund the propaganda arm of the Chardonnay and Volvos set, NPR. For decades we have been pushing the simps and squishes in Congress to get done this bare minimum response to a federally funded airwave adjunct of the Democratic Party. They haven’t. But the sissy socialists on the radio are just a mere nuisance, while the FBI is an existential threat to our most basic liberties.

Hey, ho, the FBI has got to go.

Its Boston division was bought by Whitey Bulger and one of its agents went away for murder. Gee, Trump might have been keeping secret nuke papers in Melania’s undies drawer? How about Robert Hansen, whose spying for the Russians was hailed as “possibly the worst intelligence disaster in U.S. history?” It only took the Bureau a couple of decades to find the guy in their own office who literally gave the Russians every double agent in its ranks, but these gumshoes are all over that nefarious Trump!

And then there’s Waco and Ruby Ridge.

And say, how’s that Las Vegas investigation going? And what is with knowing about the 9/11 hijackers and pretty much every school shooter?

And what gives with framing some near-homeless ne’er-do-wells for trying to kidnap the Stepford gov?

And faking warrants based on a fake dossier?

But hey, if you took a selfie on J6, the FBI is all over you.

The GOP Congress must put the FBI out of our misery, the misery of normal Americans tired of incompetence and paying for a coterie of over-praised political hatchet-men doing the ruling caste’s dirty work.

But will the GOP generate the stones to do it?

There has been a sad loss of some faculty, that there is a lack of confidence whereby Hollywood (and many besides) are too timid to depict a righteous act. They will always try to nick its Achilles tendon to hobble it a bit, to make it less good, less admirable, less glorious, to bring it down to our current level. No one can ever have been great.

Sadder still – they consider that this is the adult way of looking at the world. Emotional cripples.
