Man the system works well. I’ve been feeling like crap since the weekend with continual stomach pain which really wasn’t located in any one place. We went out a lot of times last week with friends so I assumed at first it was all the crap I ate. By Tuesday the pain had only subsided a little so I got to see the doc on Wednesday. He ordered all these tests and a CT scan. I had the CT scan at like 4.30 this arvo and I was home by about 5.30. As soon as I got home I had the GP call telling me I had to get to a hospital ASAP and here I am waiting around and listening to all these “falls” by 110 year olds.
No kidding, if these old folks are unsteady on their feet why not use a freaking walker?

Have people been keeping up with the bullshit about Wayne Carey – the AFL footballer? A white powder bag fell out of his pocket, which he reckons it was an anti-inflammatory, but most likely it was coke.
He’s been banned from the casino, potentially losing commentating jobs and the AFL is could sanction him too.

Been thinking about Fathers-in-Law a bit, in particular the one that got away, absolutely golden bloke who’d been battling cancer for decades on and off. Funeral was tuesday, I’ve been out of the loop for too long, and I’m struggling to write a concise condolence card to his widow. I loved him in my way.
Dover, who were you exchanging with re adoptions? Old Ozzie? I think it started as a step-parenting ssm idea, but then your rep said that there is now a cultural objection to adoption, and I got the impression that it was from a Stolen Generationses viewpoint…
Two of the most important friendships in my life were with adopted kids- one the daughter of the recent departed, who was my first girlfriend, the other the guitarist from my second band, whom I’m still very close to, and getting closer. I knew them both when they were going through the discovery of their birth parents- the girl was turning 21, and there are thresholds to information which are released at rising age brackets- at different stages a kid and the parents can access anonymised personal data, medical info, weight height eye colour, and parent s and kids can open doors through a mediator to make contact… if the other party agrees. At any rate, the girl had gone through one set of hurdles at 18, with much wringered emotions with her mum and dad at home, who she loved dearly, and again at 21 where she’d submitted the forms to the adoptions mediator to directly contact her parents… but been blocked. She actually went on a bit of a binge, which i attribute 99% to that rejection, because she was 99% happy at home with her life and natural-born sister too which is a funny thing that actually happened quite often.
Years later, after we’d broken up, she was contacted out of the blue. Her parents, who had been very young when she was born, stayed together, got married and had more kids, and some pissed aunt at one of those kids’ 21st had grabbed the mic and said “hey tell us about when yer mum and dad flew to Perth and left that baby there”
The kids were mobilized, luckily the eldest had left an open invitiation through the mediator, so she met the whole half clan at the age of 24 or something.
Same thing happened to my muso mate, he was in his 40’s when his birth dad had a turn and reached out after all. But that mate had a very fractured relationship with his alchoholic mother and military dad, and had kicked out of home at 18 to stand on his own feet, cut apron strings and escape the gratitude guilt trips from the couple who had adopted him as a newborn, and then a sister too. Reads a bit like a Venice Film Festival opener from the 90’s, dunnit?
Anyhoo, maybe they are a dying breed, the last generation to who an abortion was unthinkable and adoption was commonplace, and finding their peace in the information age where no-one is ever lost, and where adopting parents are only ever in the headlines for genocide and p-philia.
The other interesting thing about Sarajevo is that it’s in a bowl. The town sits at the bottom, closely surrounded by mountains.
The buggers just sat on the hillsides shelling the place – no one was safe. No concern for civilians, they were all targets.
It was the longest siege since WWII. The footpaths are full of holes and there are memorials all around the old city – shell holes filled with red resin representing the blood that was spilled. It’s all quite poignant.
