Yes, pretty correct Zulu.

Darwin stats for the Japanese attacks on 19 Feb:

-236 killed on our side
– 11 ships sunk

– 188 + 54 enemy aircraft
– four shot down

How long would it take to transfer the factories over to the US or say Mexico.

I think that process is happening now. On-shoring chip making equipment, chip making and all manner of semi conductor tech is moving back to the US while restrictions apply now to all Euro chip making companies . And the on-shoring is not limited to just this sector.

This policy won’t ultimately stop China’s chip industry but it puts a very serious brake on their capabilities giving time for the US to re-organise this strategic industry.

Frustrated drivers began dragging Just Stop Oil protesters from a busy road in east London this afternoon in dramatic scenes captured on camera.

I hope they superglued themselves to the road. That’d be fun. Pain might give them an education that has previously been sorely lacking in their short, miserable lives.

Random Americans.

1. The Cop. I got talking to a woman waiting in line next to me in a chemist shop in San Diego. She initiates with I like your perfume and your necklace. We chat about these and she twigs I am Australian. She works for the police service and can retire at 49 and would like to live in Aus in early retirement. She tells me lots in the police in America are very unhappy and want to get out. You could work in Australia, we are crying out for workers, I tell her. Do you work? she asks me. I’m long retired, I reply. Oh I though you were around my age, she says. I beam, and tell Hairy waiting outside with the big suitcase which he is dragging to the quay and my two smaller ones which I drag. Keep dragging them, Lizzie, he sez.

2. The Street Beggar. There’s one for you, Hairy says, as we slowly approach an old guy sitting on the pier with his sign ‘three jokes for a dollar’. So I hand the old guy a dollar and say no need for a joke but he launches into his riddles anyway and we are bound to try for an answer. Why wasn’t the hippie saved by the lifesaver? he asks with a wicked wink. Nup, I say in defeat. Because he was too far out. Three more similar dad jokes follow till I say we’re off now and thanks for the extra joke. You’re Australian? he says to Hairy, knowing we are. First girl I ever kissed came from Nowra near Sydney. We tug away waving and I say to Hairy you have to admire his enterprise – I bet he has a town name handy for any Nationality who comes by.

3. The Unionist. On the San Diego sail-away I chat to the woman next to me as we pass by a major naval helipad where I count 30 copters landed. It’s a navy seals training base I hear one man say. That display would make me feel very patriotic if I was a US citizen, I comment, deliberately seeking a reaction. She hesitates, as though I’ve confronted her with a heresy of some sort, but with a considered tone, almost to herself she says yes, I do feel very patriotic. The woman has a stern rather sour face and tells me she lives in suburban Los Angeles. We chat about getting the Amtrek Surfrider train down, which she did too, and she says she is going to stay in Florida with a terrific deal in holiday accommodation provided by the Postal Services Union for long term employees which she is. I deliberately dig a bit further and comment I hear that a lot of Californians are moving to Florida these days, which sets her right off. Florida is an awful place, it’s humid and hot and full of alligators, she rails. I expect we’ll enjoy it though, I suggest and say ta ta as Hairy pulls me away for a cocktail. She’s doesn’t mind going there for a freebie holiday though, he observes.

The bad reviews of some barely watched ABC talk show (its numbers have dropped by a third since its debut, which is actually pretty decent by ABC standards) is newsworthy, according to the ABC:

Criticism of Fran Kelly’s new gig Frankly drips with ageism — a stubborn form of discrimination we need to call out

Boo frickin hoo. What we need to call out is the colossal waste of taxpayer money the ABC is. Airing reruns of Dad’s Army would be far cheaper than funding Fran Kelly’s vanity project, would attract similar (or higher) ratings, and would – Frankly – be more entertaining. Not that the ABC cares about any of these things.

Sorry been with kids at Nippers this morning.

The tech I have seen works like this ..The app turns on a Bluetooth beacon so that your exact position in the store can be tracked and cameras around the store capture what you take off the shelf and place in your bag. It runs up the total, and as you walk out of the store the app charges the card you have associated with the app.

Is there anything whiteness can’t do?

It is funny that ‘whiteness’, the font of ignorance, pettiness, arrogance, paranoia, blindness, small-mindedness and hubris – and any number of other debilitating weaknesses, produced societies that have spread across the globe, produced science, medicine, philosophies and law that rest of the world so envies they either adopt them in their own lands or leave those lands to live in ‘white’ ones.

On the other side we have sTan who still believes in the smallpox blankets because it bestows victimhood.

It just goes to show how deeply ingrained the Swamp is in the US. Across both parties and throughout all institutions. Only a determined outsider like Trump could cause them serious concern. POTUS De Santis- only maybe.

makka, TSMC is building a factory in Arizona. I don’t think it is finished yet. There are two aspects to this – design of the chips and actual fabrication. Many chip vendors are in fact fabless. They do design and the chips are fabbed by someone else. There aren’t all that many silicon foundries. AFAIK there is one plant in Holland which makes the most advanced ship manufacturing equipment for actual fabrication.
I wouldn’t sell the Chinese short. Half the problem with anything is knowing it is possible and take a look at papers in applied physics/electronics (same thing really) coming out of the US and look at all the Chinese names.
Squeezing the Dragon might also not be the optimum strategy here. Do you really want to go to war over Taiwan.

I’m not Eyrie. The US chip policy is proposing to achieve 2 things. Keep this technology edge firmly in favour of the west and impair China’s tech advances as it relates to weaponry, to buy time while restructuring. As I said, ultimately it won’t stop China’s advances in this tech. I see ASML were questioning if the ban applies to them in Europe but they have complied. Billions in sales gone.

I was quite surprised.

This memory was also used in Australia’s first digital computer and the fifth stored program computer in the world, CSIRAC in 1949. (Which is also the oldest surviving 1st generation computer.)

Conservatives who want to have it both ways by condemning transgenderism for children but remaining indifferent or supportive of it for adults as an “individual choice” are holding an untenable position.

Nope from me. If someone wants to go down the rabbithole that’s their choice, so long as they can choose as an adult. Which means 21. Or perhaps 18.

If smoking, alcohol and serving in the army require an age limit then choosing to cut one’s dick off surely does as well. Let them have emasculation parties if they really want it, so long as they’re of age.

I don’t see how such a stance is incompatible with conservatism. Everyone should be responsible for their own mischoices, which means they have to truly understand and accept they are making the mischoice. Which is why we limit such things by age.

A man was walking in the street when he heard a voice.

“Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step, a brick will fall down on your head and kill you”. The man stopped and a big brick fell right in front of him. The man was astonished.

He went on, and after a while he was going to cross the road. Once again the voice shouted “Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step a car will run over you and you will die”.

The man did as he was instructed, just as a car came careening around the corner, barely missing him.

“Where are you?” the man asked. “Who are you?” “I am your guardian angel” the voice answered. “Oh yeah?” the man asked. “And where the hell were you when I got married?”

Thanks Diogenes.

It seems like overkill to me – cameras and apps and all that for when you pop into the supermarket for a loaf of bread and a dozen eggs – but what would I know?

It would be interesting to know how accurate it is as well. Your average supermarket is rife with misplaced items, frequent re-arranging, and constantly changing product lines and prices. Scanning barcodes and the provision of a paper itemised receipt keeps the error rate down and makes it easy to check that you have been correctly charged. I can imagine numerous ways that using an app plus cameras could cause errors, not to mention opportunities to game the system. And how does it cope with you changing your mind and putting something back on the shelf, not necessarily in the right place?

Time will tell, I suppose.

Archbishop of Canterbury highlights climate crisis in Australia with visit to Lismore

When the climate bullshit really started back in about 2007, despite the Al Gore movie Judgment and then subsequently Climategate, it was impossible to argue the science with the devotees. The reason for that is alarmism is a religion and there is no surprise that the established religions should be intent on appropriating it.

Alarmism was always a reworking of the Eden myth where the paradise of nature was despoiled by the use of fossil fuels. And just like Eden where God banished Adam and Eve to a harsh unnatural world AGW says the backlash from nature to humanity’s abuse of nature will be equally harsh.

In Christianity there has been a dispute about AGW. On one side is the more progressive forms which accept AGW and interpret the role of Christianity as assisting the people who will be affected by AGW. The 2006 Evangelical Climate Initiative for instance regarded the IPCC as foundational in developing its position on AGW; sort of like an updated version of the 10 Commandments.

On the other side has been the traditional Christian view as typified by the Cornwall Alliance. This approach took the literal Biblical view that God is sovereign over creation and therefore humans can do no permanent damage to what God has created. This view also advocates that God entrusted the earth to human dominion and we should not be afraid of economic development or other uses of human creativity.

Like everywhere else the pro alarmist version of Christianity has dominated hence the recent cabal of fucktards demanding the ending of fossils.

My turn for a dad joke…
The Old F-4 Pilot

A gray-headed old man shuffled into a downtown bar with his head high but his hands shook as he took the “Piano Player Wanted” sign out of the front window and handed it to the bartender. “I’d like to apply for this job,” he said. “I was an F-4 pilot, back in ‘Nam, but when they retired the F-4, all the thrill was gone. Soon they cashed me in as well, so I learned to play the piano at the Officers’ Club during happy hours. Now, I want to play here.”

The barkeep wasn’t too sure about the doubtful-looking old guy. But it had been quite a while since the bar had a piano player and business had falling off, so he decided to give the old guy a tryout. As the old pilot shuffled over to the piano for his audition, several patrons grinned and snickered. However, by the time he was into his third bar of music, every voice in the bar was silent as he played a rhapsody of soaring music unlike anything ever heard there. When he finished there wasn’t a dry eye in the place.

The bartender rushed over to the old F-4 pilot, delivered a mug of beer and asked him the name of that song. It’s called “Drop your Skivvies, Baby, I’m Going Balls To The Wall For You,” he said. After a long pull on the beer, leaving it empty, he said “I wrote it myself.”

The bartender and the crowd were taken aback by the title, but then the old guy went into a knee-slapping, hand-clapping bit of ragtime and the joint started really jumping. Everyone loved it and the crowd broke out in wild applause when he finished. The old F-4 pilot acknowledged their applause, downed a second mug of beer, and told them he wrote that one too. It is called, “Big Boobs Make My Afterburner Light.”

He then launched into another mesmerizing tune that enthralled everyone. He announced it was the latest rendition of another song he wrote titled, “Spread ’em, Baby, It’s Foggy Out Tonight and I Need To See The Centerline”. He then excused himself for a short trip to the john.

Upon his return, the bartender ran over to the piano with another mug of beer and said, “Flyboy, the job is yours, you are hired. But before you continue playing, could you please tell me something? Do you know your fly is open and your pecker is hanging out?”

“Know it?” Wilson replied, “Hell, I wrote that one too!”

Can anyone confirm that no life insurance company offers discounts for being vaccinated?

If so, it means the insurance industry values the vaccinations at zero.

Or pointless.
Why offer discounts to 90% of the population for events which are unrelated to the vax?
If money talks, and vaxxed are dropping like flies, wouldn’t you expect the opposite?
Excess premiums for the vaxxed?

Sure, but that’s the custom here. It’s not in the US. Basically if they do their job, the deal is they get a tip, which is usually twice the sales tax. It’s just how it works there.

It’s when it leaks into all sorts of other areas that it shits me.

When the climate bullshit really started back in about 2007, despite the Al Gore movie Judgment and then subsequently Climategate, it was impossible to argue the science with the devotees.

Still is.

No Debate Allowed?! Debate opponent withdraws, ducks debate at ‘Green Davos’ conference – Morano & Monckton set to debate climate activists as UK Climate Minister cancels attendance (14 Oct)

Monckton: “Marc Morano and I have just won two of the easiest-ever victories in the global warming debate, without a shot being fired. A sociologist from Cardiff University, realizing he would lose a debate against us at the ‘Green Davos’ climate-change forum in London next Tuesday, has capitulated, cried off and retreated. And a British “minister of climate change”, who was due to address the forum, also caved and slunk out of the arena on learning that Marc and I were also to speak. Merely by our presence

Every time that climate realists debate Gaia devotees the realists win. Every time. Nowadays one whiff of a realist is enough for a climate bedwetter and a Minister for Climate Change to run away and hide. It’d be amusing if there wasn’t so much riding on this gigantic fraud.

Zip, this is the problem and why random events can be confused with “too many co-incidences”. You’re a numbers dude, so you’d understand it.

68.3% of the world population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
12.83 billion doses have been administered globally, and 2.8 million are now administered each day.
23.3% of people in low-income countries have received at least one dose.

68.3% of the world’s population means we’re close to nudging 5 billion people. That’s a fucking huge number of folks, and in that number some are just going to fall dead on any given day without an adequate explanation, or it could be due to the vax.

That doesn’t mean, the vax isn’t problematic. It’s just that we have no idea and one of the reasons is that this event has never occurred before in human history. The vastness of the vax distribution.

5 billion vaxes administered over a period of say 15 months spread over almost every country in the world is absolutely staggering from a logistical point of view. Like it or hate, it’s an extraordinary accomplishment by humanity.

There are around 8800 hours in a year. 15 months/12 months = 11,000 hours in 15 months. This equals 660,000 minutes x 60 = 40 million seconds over 15 months.

That works out to 125 vaxes administered every second of the day over 15 months.

That’s just mind boggling.

An interesting perspective.

I’ve spent a fair part of my working life travelling to shitholes where the unwary can catch exciting ways to die horribly.

My life insurers have always demanded I disclose the filthy foreign places I might go to – and presumably charged accordingly. None of the bastards ever offered a discount for my being vaccinated for turd world diseases.

I suspect life insurers generally charge on an average actuarial basis rather than pricing individually for people who take precautions appropriate to their circumstances. In the case of most people in the life insurance market (ie typically under 65) there is little chance of dying of Covid, so little/no actuarial benefit from being jabbed.

But it could all be rigged by the WEF.

Ukraine Spends $5 Million To Shoot Down A $25,000 Drone

The Economics of Air Defense

A lot happened in the last week in the Ukraine War. In this post, we’ll look at one incident that may shed some light on the economics of the conflict. Following that, a note about avoiding head fakes in in war and markets by keeping your eye on the big picture.

After the Ukrainian attack on the Kerch Strait Bridge last weekend, Russia responded with massive missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian targets starting on Monday. The drones were primarily Iranian Shahed-136 Kamikazes (re-christened as Geran-2 by Russia).

Cost estimates I’ve seen for these drones vary from about $20,000 to $25,000 each. They’re literally powered by lawnmower engines (presumably, because Iran has limited access to engines due to U.S. sanctions), though in the video above, it looks like they get an initial rocket boost off their launchers.

Despite being loud and slow, they apparently have been quite effective, so the Ukrainian Air Force sent up a MiG-29 fighter to shoot one down. You can see the MiG firing at it in the short video below.

A MiG-29 apparently costs something between $5 million and $12 million, incidentally.

In this case, the MiG successfully shot down the drone, but shrapnel from the explosion of the drone hit the MiG’s cockpit, forcing the pilot to eject. You can see wreckage of the MiG below.

So the Ukrainians sacrificed a $5 million+ plane to shoot down a $25,000 drone. If this sounds like it may be an unrepresentative example, consider that we’ve already given the Ukrainians aid equal to Russia’s entire military budget for 2021.

Musk tweeted: “the hell with it … even though starlink is still losing money & other companies are getting billions of taxpayer $, we’ll just keep funding ukraine govt for free”.

The plan was rejected by the Bracks Labor government in 2006 over claims it would devastate the river, flood farms and cost millions of dollars. Environment Victoria also criticised the plan over environmental concerns.

Crapper said the $80 million price tag was “chicken feed” compared to the damage bill from floods over the past two decades. He predicts that if nothing is done, low-lying towns and suburbs along the Maribyrnong River – including the suburbs of Keilor, Essendon, Footscray and Yarraville – can expect “more of the same if not worse” in the future.

The Victorian government has repeatedly ruled out building new dams over claims climate change meant not enough water would flow into them. Yesterday, Premier Daniel Andrews reiterated his government’s policy not to build any more dams saying the flood was “not about storage” but “patterns of weather that are unique”.

“I am not here to make any announcements about additional dams, our policy has been to make the best and most efficient use of the water that we have as well as to create a climate change resistant capacity to create water,” he said.

You know, Trump is 100% courage.

There’s a piece in the Oz talking about a couple of interviews done with Jizzlane.

Jizza reckons this famous pic is doctored bullshit.

She also spoke for the first time of her close friendships with former US Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump, and her association with “the greatest regret of my life’’, paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Our first meeting, conducted as part of an upcoming CBS-Paramount Plus special, took place in June this year inside New York’s notorious Metropolitan Detention Centre, followed by another lengthy interview conducted remotely from her current jail in Florida.

Speaking for the first time since her arrest in July 2020, Maxwell talked of her regrets over her association with billionaire financier and sex abuser Epstein, claiming it had turned her into a “wicked witch” hate figure and damaged those she loved. And she revealed she longs to turn back the clock.

“I said in my court statement that meeting Epstein was the greatest mistake of my life,” Maxwell admits.

“And obviously, if I could go back today, I would avoid meeting him, and I would make different choices.”

Andrew was not the only friend she lost over her links to the tycoon, who was found dead in his cell, aged 66, in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Former US President Bill Clinton, who travelled on the tycoon’s “Lolita Express” private jet, was another relationship she valued.

“It was a special friendship, which continued over the years,” she said.

“We had lots in common. I feel bad that he is another victim, only because of his association with Jeffrey. I understand he, like others, can no longer consider me as a friend.”

Heavy price

One of the few people to have shown her any loyalty, she says, is former President Donald Trump.

“We knew each other and mingled in the same circles, in New York, Palm Beach. I was very grateful when he wished me well after (the arrest). He got bad media for it, but he dared, while others didn’t.

“I was honoured he remembered me. Well, he is known to say what he thinks. It gave me a big boost.”

Maxwell complained friends were “cancelled” just for knowing her.

mental illness is not a choice

In the absence of physiological disorders yes it is.

Your argument assumes we know the physiological markers. We have intuitions and intuition isn’t worth shit. Imaging, neurotransmitters, and connectome studies are conflicting. We can point to connectome changes, inflammatory markers for ASD and schizophrenia but these are variable. For depression we might find inflammation(but that is time dependent), glucocorticoid resistance(again time dependent), and frontal lobe dysregulation, but these all vary across individuals and even within individuals. We might also find a smaller hippocampus and\or enlarged amygdala but again not consistently so.

The larger problem with your position is that some types of mental illness are strongly associated with difficult pregnancies, maternal inflammation, childhood deprivation, and genetics.

The best bet when you mishit a ball is to call for a run and take off.

Jury duty can really suck sometimes.

North Carolina Judge Sends Veteran to Jail for 24 Hours for Refusing to Wear Mask in Court (15 Oct)

The law is an ass, someone said once. If I get called like this I’d be tempted to hire a 19thC diving suit and sit in the jurybox in it. It’d make for a great photo.

Mentioned yesterday.
The Maribynong River has always flooded, it’s what rivers do, so yes a dam upstream was a sensible solution.
Residents should be suing the state government.
And Bandt and that green who I presume is standing for a state seat should stop demanding coal mining stop to stop flooding in Flemington.
It sounds really far-fetched because it is.

This week it is Fallout 3 with all the addons.

Good luck getting that game to run on Windows 10.

Colonel – Mine is the disk version, it runs very well under Win 10. I get very occasional CTDs but I think that’s an unresolved bug in the game code. Save regularly and all is fine.

I can’t comment on the Steam version, but other Steam games have been OK for me so far. I don’t have many though.

(I keep meaning on trying The Witcher, but my disk version doesn’t like my USB CD drive and I haven’t gotten around to getting it off of Steam. Not sure either whether such games work – saw Civ 4 Colonization offered on Steam yesterday cheaply, but my disk copy doesn’t like 64 bit Win 10. Compatibility issues suck.)

In a train compartment, there are 3 men and a ravishing young girl.

The four passengers join in conversation, which very soon turns to the erotic. Then, the young girl proposes “If each of you will give me $1.00, I will show you my legs”. The men, charmed by this young girl, all pull a buck out of their wallet.

And then the girl pulls us her dress a bit to show her legs.

Then she says “If each of you gentlemen will give me $10.00, I’ll show you my thighs” and men being what they are, they all pull out a ten-dollar bill.

The girl pulls up her dress all the way to her legs in full.

Conversation continues, and the men, a bit excited, have all taken off their coats. Then the young girl says “If you will give me $100, I will show you where I was operated on for appendicitis”.

All three fork over the money. The girl then turned to the window and points outside at a building they’re passing. “See there in the distance. That’s the hospital where I had it done!”

If the culture believes that sex changes are not merely normal, but to be celebrated, that will also apply to children, and the facts on the ground already indicate that.

Hard to argue against as a concept.

The thing that strikes me is that this ‘cultural practice’ is getting a head of steam without being accepted, far less celebrated, by what one might perhaps term the ‘general culture’, or the ‘normal culture’.

Instead I see a tiny, perverse/damaged cultural fragment, supported for political and wokely ‘progressive’ reasons by a larger cultural fragment that considers itself to be a vanguard.

This is yet another government-created fault line in modern Australian society.

Boston Children’s Hospital Claims Puberty Blockers ‘Completely Reversible’; Director Admits They Cause Infertility (15 Oct)

The Boston Children’s Hospital claims that puberty-blocking drugs are “completely reversible” despite the director of their gender clinic admitting they can cause infertility in a video obtained by Breitbart News.

“Children and adolescents who are in puberty may choose to pause puberty using puberty blockers,” the Boston Children’s Hospital says on its website.

It goes on to incorrectly claim that “These are temporary medicines that are completely reversible; they do not cause any permanent changes.”

But Breitbart News recently obtained and released footage of Dr. Jeremi Carswell, the Director of the Boston Children’s Hospital Gender Multispeciality Service, admitting on camera that puberty-blocking drugs can sterilize children.

They are lying that puberty blockers are reversible. Claiming this stuff is reversible is a despicable lie. There’s no way back. So to claim it is is a most despicable evil, to fool parents and children like this.

In a different century I was taught in Geography that flood plains were caused by floods. So are flood plains now not flood plains? Are they only flooded flood plains when Gaia is unhappy with us? Were they miraculously formed during aeons of no floods, only now to flood because we’ve sinned?

The hubris of these people is amazing.

“One of the few people to have shown her any loyalty, she says, is former President Donald Trump.

Maxwell complained friends were “cancelled” just for knowing her.”

This takes courage and it shows the measure of a man or woman who does this. Trump has courage. I remember the vilification Abbott and Howard received when they gave character references for Cardinal Pell when he was sentenced. I also remember how the putrid left, Labor, Skank Steggall, GetUp et al used this in the 2019 Warringah campaign against Abbott, smearing him as a “buddy of pedophiles”.

Just back from helping my daughter clean up after being flooded by lovely brown Maribynong River sludge. Around 2 feet of water went through and basically wrecked her rented unit. It will be unliveable for a long time.
It’s pretty obvious the Flemington Racecourse wall created a choke point and caused the river to back up.

The aerial shot of Turn 2 looking out over Bass Strait is great – unless you are there in a cold SW wind with a feels like temp in single digits. That’s untrue, Fester. Even Cronkite once reported on a Monchton debate here in Sydney one time and said he (Monckton) didn’t perform well. I think he debated Tim Lambert.

No one ever beat Monckton head prefect. What I would have said is that Monckton got the gender wrong of the author of a controversial climate paper. He thought Pinker was a bloke but she wasn’t. But Monckton was right about everything else. In fact Pinker’s paper disproves alarmism. Here is an easy to understand summary of the debate from Jo:

https://joannenova.com.au/2010/02/lamberts-pinker-tape-ambush-pr-stunt/

The point about debating alarmists is that it is pointless. This is not a rational situation. Alarmism is a belief and all the evidence against alarmism under the Sun won’t dissuade an alarmist.
