That is classic abuser tactics, blaming the victim for the abuse. Way too much of that rubbish in the discourse these days. You should be better than that, db.

Putin’s problems are entirely self-inflicted. If he hadn’t started the war, he wouldn’t have put Russia in the position it is in. He gambled and lost, no one’s fault but his own.

Heres a perfect description of governments state and federal.
https://www.city-journal.org/reign-of-the-administrators-britains-bureaucracy

Hypertrophy of rules and interference go hand in hand with anarchy and inefficiency. Those who work in the public administration or are paid from the public purse are assured of pensions of which those who do not work for it or are not paid from it can only dream: and they believe, of course, that they deserve this immense privilege, for, unlike others, they have worked all their lives for the public good rather than for private advantage. That the administrators are protected from the hazards of inflation by their index-linked pensions naturally gives the rest of the population the impression that the people are now there to serve the government, not the other way around.

No, but it decided to become a proxy for US interests in a zone the Russians consider strategically vital. You can cry to the heavens about ‘agency’, you can say that the Russians had nothing to worry about, and so on, but the reaction to events since 2007 suggests this was a redline, and whatever limited engagement they foresaw in Feb ’22 has been set aside for a fuller engagement.

Sorry, just to confirm – you believe Putin made the correct decision to invade Ukraine, am I right?

The US is now sending Patriot batteries. Better to test those there than destroy due to age. Because of pitiful SEAD capability the Russians generally keep their aircraft at safe distances from Ukraine old style s300s. The Patriot batteries will require further distancing. How many premium aircraft is Putin willing to lose?

‘Dishonourable’: Chester calls for Gee’s resignation
Laura Placella
LAURA PLACELLA

Nationals MP Darren Chester has called on his former colleague Andrew Gee to resign from parliament and trigger a by-election, saying it was not very honourable of him to “run off and become independent”.

Mr Chester, speaking on ABC, said Mr Gee’s decision to leave the party was “disappointing”.

“The honourable thing to do is actually to stand down from parliament, let the people of Calare decide whether they want him as an independent or whether they want a National Party MP or a Liberal MP or a Labor MP,” he said.

“I think just taking the seat and running off and becoming independent is not the most honourable thing to do.”

Mr Chester said Mr Gee would have been allowed to cross the floor and vote with the federal government on the Voice.

“Mr Gee could easily have voted in accordance with his own conscience, as the Nationals have many times in the past, many National MPs have voted different to the party in the past. Barnaby Joyce I think crossed the floor more than 20 times during the Howard government. I think crossing the floor was part of Barnaby’s exercise regime in those days,” Mr Chester said.

Ukraine’s very existence was a red line, evidently. How dare they breathe good Russian oxygen! Putin had no other option than to start a war invoking the memory of Peter the Great to exhume the Russian Empire… but lose badly enough that he’s now worried about becoming Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Russian justification for the war makes no sense at all on any level. I suppose you can say that’s a Captain Hindsight statement, but Putin now looks like a fool who drank his own bathwater, believing that he was going to waltz into Kyiv as a liberator. He was poorly advised and surrounded by corruption, but that is entirely on him too as he long ago gutted the effectiveness of the Russian government to consolidate his own power.

As for the “10% for the big guy”, everywhere and everything is always corrupt. I have worked in: Racing, army, teaching, the waste industry, aluminium extrusion, taxis, and dairy to name a few. All of them had corruption. All of them had shady characters doing illegal shit. Everything is corrupt. We have life living in acid at impossible temperatures in hydrothermal plumes. Life as we know it has existed for such a short time the next more complex life form has not emerged from what it considers to be the primordial ooze left by us in another 100 million years. Nice to see a few low rise historical buildings in between the towers still.
Huge queue waiting to see the Myer Christmas windows so we didn’t hang around.
Bustling but not overcrowded and Emporium still short of tenants upstairs, we thought it was all pretty good fun.
Only saw two beggars, one in Burke Street Mall was thrilled to bits when an Asian man gave him a $50.

We’ve seen all the commercials. But what really happens when you ask for help with an erection lasting more than 4 hours? I walked into a chemist store and asked to talk to a male pharmacist. The woman I was speaking with said she was the only pharmacist and since she and her sister owned the store, there were no male employees.

She asked if she could help me. I said that I really would have preferred to speak with a male pharmacist. She assured me that she was completely professional and whatever it was that I needed to discuss, I could be confident that she would treat me with a high level of professionalism.

I reluctantly agreed and began by saying “This is tough for me to discuss, but here goes. I get erections every day that last more than four hours. This condition causes me a lot of problems and severe embarrassment. I was wondering what you could give me for it?”

The pharmacist said “Just a minute, I’ll talk to my sister”.

When she returned, she said “We discussed it at length and here’s the absolute best we can do:

-free room and board,
– 1/3 ownership in the store,
-a company pickup car,
-a king size bed and,
-$2,000 a month in living expenses”.

“Nationals MP Darren Chester has called on his former colleague Andrew Gee to resign from parliament and trigger a by-election, saying it was not very honourable of him to “run off and become independent”.”

Chester is right. Gee ran as a National, he should do the right thing and resign and run as an independent, and we’ll see what ensues. I suspect his electorate would choose a National over him. I also reckon his electorate will vote overwhelmingly against the Voice. Gee’s resignation is rank opportunism. Not only is he giving the middle finger to the party, he’s also giving the middle finger to his constituents. Quite frankly, he’s a disgrace. If sitting members choose to resign from the party they went to an election representing, then they should be forced to a by-election.

The US and Europe are at war with Russia because it doesn’t allow gay marriage, basically. They couldn’t give a rodent’s buttock about Ukrainians. Five minutes ago, the only time Ukrainians were mentioned in the Western press was as the world’s most violent and racist soccer hooligans or as denizens of the world’s last game park for free-roaming nazis. Google it: blacks bashed by Ukrainians at the World Cup, a giant Swastika flag at a match, sieg heiling on the hill, a gay cinema burned down in Kiev.

The Western left was deeply in love with Russia for the entirety of Soviet history. The Labor Party was filled with secret admirers, members and spies – including Dr Evatt. They not only loved Stalin and his successors but they also loved the homicidal, nation-destroying causes they bankrolled. Then came the Federation, wild west anarcho-capitalism overlaid with pre-Lenin Russian mores and a recrudescence of Orthodoxy. And, of course, an alpha male leader who ordered Pussy Riot arrested, made jokes about Western pansies and shat upon Brussels at every opportunity. A new generation of leftists began to hate Russia because it wasn’t communist – like them.

This still wouldn’t have been enough for the broader left to bury the anti-Bush hatchet and start dating Bill Kristol, John Bolton and Dick Cheney. But then came the Floyd Murder Wave and the busted Russia Hoax. Uh-oh. A gigantic wedge would be needed to triangulate Trump and his followers out of the mainstream. Voila: ‘We love – er – Ukraine!

Russia did exactly what the US did re the Western Hemisphere and European interventions in the Americas. Whether or not that was justified is a separate question. Nevertheless, under those circumstances, both made it clear that interventions in either sphere could be considered a hostile act. That is what is operative.

Russia started the war by attacking a sovereign nation. NATO didn’t start this.

This is like saying America started the war with Afghanistan in 2002 and nothing notable happened in 2001.

This “sovereign nation” – the world’s most corrupt shit-hole – was lobbing shells on Russian ex-pats, using several nazi battalions to police the east (which is to say, ethnically cleanse the east) and taking vast amounts of money from the Americans who wanted to set it up as a satrapy from which to pursue regime change in the Federation. None of the world’s imperial powers – most especially the US – would ever tolerate this. The leaders of Ukraine were not in charge of their own house and their people have paid a horrific price for being sold out by them as neo-con fantasy fodder.

Every day a third grade boy walks home from school past a fourth grade girl’s house. One day he stops to taunt the little girl. He holds up the football and says “See this football? Football is a BOY’S game and girls can’t have one!”

The little girl runs in the house crying and tells her mother about the encounter. She runs out and buys the girl a football.

The next day the boy is riding home on his bike, and the girl shows him the football, yelling “Nah-na-nah-na-nah”.

The little boy gets mad and points to his bike. “See this bike? This is a BOY’S bike, and girls can’t have them!”

Next day, the boy comes by and the little girl is riding a new boy’s bike. Now he is really mad. So he drops his pants, points at his private parts, and says “You see THIS? Only BOY’S have these and your mother can’t go buy you one!”

The next day as he passes the house he asks the little girl “Well, what do you have to say NOW?” So she pulls up her dress, points to her private part and says “My mother told me that as long as I have one of these, I can have as many of THOSE as I want!”

You’re using US intervention in Europe and the America’s against communist insurgencies as a justification? This is insanity.

JC, it’s about seeing national interest as different nations interpret what that means for themselves. It’s not about saying Russia’s view of its national interest is right or moral. The reason Putin is a small man in history – and a total failure, really – is that he had an opportunity to make something new of the Russian Federation but he didn’t. In the end, he didn’t have the skills or the vision. I don’t know anyone who seriously thinks of the Russians as the ‘goodies’ in this war. Nor do the wrongs of 2014 onward purchase for Russia the ‘right’ to invade nations or be considered the aggrieved party.

Neither does Ukraine.
The status of homosexualists is almost identical in both countries.

True, Arky, but the point I was making is accurate. Take, for example, Dominic Tierney’s much-discussed piece welcoming the left’s new attitude in The Atlantic (The Rise of the Liberal Hawks):

Russian President Vladimir Putin is the antithesis of everything the left stands for. Not only did he launch an unprovoked attack on a sovereign democratic nation, but he has also disparaged LGBTQ rights, multiculturalism, and immigration, and claimed that “the liberal idea” has “outlived its purpose.” Zelensky, in contrast, has built bridges with the global left. He addressed the Glastonbury music festival, in the U.K., where the revelers chanted his name to the tune of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army.” In Germany, the Green Party led the charge to supply weapons to Kyiv, overturning decades of German wariness about intervening in foreign wars. LGBTQ protesters in Berlin also demanded that Germany step up arms shipments to Ukraine, so that a Pride parade can, one day, be held in the Russian-occupied city of Mariupol. Ukrainian liberals—artists, translators, teachers, filmmakers—have joined the struggle. As one writer put it: “All our hipsters in Ukraine fight.”

Biden is a demented lech with a drug addicted car wreck of a son as his bagman. And he won.

Sure, NATO is a purely defensive alliance that intervened in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, and Libya, for instance. But setting that aside, if the grounds were stupid they wouldn’t be at war.

Stop making it make up as you go along. NATO’s objective is not and has never been purely defensive.

NATO’s mission is and has always been described as Collective Security of the member and associate states.. It doesn’t mean it’s purely defensive. You shouldn’t make arguments based on incorrect premises.

What Is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)?

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is an alliance of 30 member states from North America and Europe, created in 1949, with the goal of safeguarding the freedom and security of members through political and military means.1

NATO first strives to prevent conflict through diplomatic channels as part of the organization’s effort to promote democratic values and enable member states to solve problems peacefully. When diplomatic efforts fall short, NATO’s military might may be activated to engage in crisis management under the principle of collective defense, which states “an attack against one is an attack against all.

Cocaine Mitch Makes It Rain on Ukraine

“Providing assistance for Ukrainians to defeat the Russians is the No. 1 priority for the United States.”

Congress is considering an additional $45 billion in aid to Ukraine. For any grinches, Volodymyr Zelensky allegedly visits Washington, D.C., today to dissuade them from stealing Ukraine’s Christmas.

The $45 billion amounts to almost a third of the country’s gross domestic product prior to the Russian invasion and about $130 for every man, woman, child, demiboy, fakaleiti, pandaka, two-spirit, and alternative gender in the United States.

“Providing assistance for Ukrainians to defeat the Russians is the No. 1 priority for the United States right now according to most Republicans,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell.

Really? More so than border security? More so than shrinking government? More so than depoliticizing and defanging the Justice Department and intelligence apparatus?

Republicans want the Ukrainians to win. Do Republicans $45 billion want the Ukrainians to win?

From the Comments

– If we place Ukrainian flags on our border with Mexico, will securing take place?

– Just as Caesar’s wife (or the equivalent) should be above suspicion, the top Republican in the Senate should be above contempt. McConnell is not.

– And what do the Ukrainians have to show for all the money sent their way? A destroyed country, millions of refugees, and no hope to defeat the Russians and drive them out. Maybe they should take a new tact and find a negotiated settlement. I seem to recall the politicians telling us that Israel should trade land for peace. Fat chance. The US will fight to the last Ukrainian. The US is just sending printed dollars. The Ukrainians can provide the cannon fodder. And if nuclear war is an unintended consequence, it’s survivable don’t you know? That’s what the politicians are now telling us.

Mitch McConnell – what more is there to be said about this latest betrayal and grift? Hasn’t he done enough damage to this country and others. He can’t find any money to rebuild Florida after Ian, but he can send over $100B to Ukraine. No money for a border wall. I could go on.

What if the US minded its own business? Would the world be any worse off if not for the Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Syria, Yugoslavia, Libya, and other US incursions across the globe?

– Trump wanted $4B for the rest of the border wall. Dems said No Way and even sued to stop its construction.

$45B *additional* dollars for Ukraine’s border? No problem.

There seems to be concrete evidence that Kari was fraudulently disenfranchised.

Another line in the sand blown away by overarching demorat control of the system.

xmas shenanigans

a few years ago the MiL had us all in Deni
flung from everywhere. Syd, Merimbula, various parts Melb, even Dubai
a cast of maybe 20 people

yeah, she’g got a massive turkey and chickens and ham and beef
and I wake up xmas morning and she goes, “I’ve never done a turkey before and how are we gonna do the beef and chickens with only one oven?”

bloody air-head

The missus’ cousin Linda looks at me and I look at her with a wtf-ing actual?

a quick ciggie while war-gaming at 0800 and we went back inside and told them to fuck right off out of our kitchen

even did vanilla custard as well

lunch was at 1400

Well reached Melbourne, even though a) the phone nav went bung and sent us to Flinders St Station instead of Carlton, and b) we had to drive past those abominable brightly coloured metal oblongs and so on that masquerade as art.

The people opposite us have a a Ferrari and a Porsche and yet have already spotted a rat on the street.

Christmas will hopefully not look like that of the Royle Family:

Top Ender has spotted, er, Melbourne ‘public art’, in this instance the famous Cheese Stick

And TE wonders why he sees rats.

Stuff it and roast it, then eat some of it. I have seasoned stuffing and sausage meat for the stuffing stage. And apricots.

  1. Is that the line being pushed by the DNC/MSM talking points? Very inventive, but hardly credible.
