Couple of things. I don’t think Miss Swift would be on vinyl.
As for appearing on FM pukeness, trying to appear hip whilst calling the aforementioned artist as ‘Tay Tay’ is vomit inducing.
And as to the last point, whoever advised him to say that, (guessing a ponytailed git) should be summarily dismissed.

On vinyl? Yeah, nah, as the kids who say Tay Tay would say.

My guess is Swift is his much younger girlfriend’s favourite and raves to him about her.

An amended statement of claim, filed in court this week, alleges Professor Sutton was personally responsible for the loss and damage caused to I Cook Foods.

Amazingly, when this first came up his defenders said “he had to sign off on the closure of i-Cook, because others had a conflict of interest and couldn’t sign it”.
FMD!
The first thing a responsible Department Head or CEO should ask is, “Oh? And what exactly is that conflict of interest? I’ll leave this execution notice in my in-tray until I get a written statement of the conflict of interest from each and every party involved.”

“It was Tay Tay,” the PM replied. “I think she’s terrific, and I think that she’s empowering of young women. If people actually listen to Shake It Off, the lyrics are fantastic. I think it is, I quite enjoy her.”

Radio Birdman should tell Elbow never to wear one of their t-shirts again.

Dutton then gave Stoker the O.K. to go public, and a clinical execution followed.
Done & dusted.

There is one flaw with this theory, Van is sitting on the crossbench. It’s in Dutton’s interest, rightly or wrongly for Van to resign from parliament so he can get back to the real story.

West Australian Liberals finally developing a spine?

Libby Mettam: Same old WA Labor with Roger Cook at the helm
Libby MettamThe West Australian
Fri, 16 June 2023 2:00AM

Do you hear that? That is the same dog whistle that has been blown in this Parliament by that side of politics for decades.

“Every time, like a dog returning to its vomit, these guys trot out their straw man arguments to simply distract members of the community and raise these issues in people’s minds.”

That was new Premier Roger Cook in Parliament this week as he set the standard for how he intends to govern, debate and respond to the legitimate concerns of West Australians.

Asked a fair and reasonable question about the implementation of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act and he refers to the Opposition as dogs returning to vomit.

A class act.

If West Australians were hoping the first week of the Cook Labor Government would somehow be the start of a more consultative and collaborative style of government, then they would have been sorely disappointed.

After being sidelined two years ago for his mismanagement of the health portfolio to become the minister for special events and concerts, the new Premier failed to prove he was capable of much more in his first week.

Instead, when faced with his first challenge to explain the chaotic implementation of the new laws to protect culturally significant sites, he reverted to the divert and deflect playbook favoured by Labor.

He accused the Opposition of being racist for raising it and said the concerns of farmers were inaccurate.

More than 17,000 West Australians who have signed a petition in the last week calling for a pause on the implementation of these changes disagree with him.

As I wrote in this paper last Friday, the changes to the act will mean landowners with more than 1100sqm may have to obtain a permit to undertake works, such as putting in a fence, footings on a building, or digging a dam, if their land is deemed a cultural heritage site.

It will be up to the landowner to seek out whether there is a culturally significant site on their property, and they will then have to find a local Aboriginal cultural heritage service to survey the site and issue a permit, all at their own expense.

Except, the LACHS aren’t yet established, the guidelines around the permits and appeals process are not yet finalised and the IT system to apply for a permit won’t go live until July 1, when the changes are enacted, meaning affected landowners could wait weeks for a permit.

The Opposition has been inundated with messages from concerned landowners, particularly pastoralists and graziers, about the implications of the changes but also the process, with hundreds turning out to sessions in the regions this week to try to understand them.

The Kimberley Land Council and other Aboriginal groups have also raised concerns, claiming native title groups are “vastly under-resourced” for its roll-out and LACHS are still not established.

As we have stated all along, the Opposition supports the intent of the bill, which is to protect culturally significant sites and ensure that nothing like the destruction of the Juukan Gorge happens again.

However, after ramming the bill through in 2021 and gagging debate in the chamber or any opportunity for it to be scrutinised, the Government now seems intent on rushing out the implementation before the proper processes are in place.

We are asking for a six-month pause to enable the processes to be properly set up and to allow landholders to get across the new requirements and provide appropriate training and gain approvals before any penalties come into effect.

However, instead of considering and listening, the new Premier gave a nothing-to-see-here response before dismissing any concerns as “dog-whistling”.

It was the kind of response that was a hallmark of his time as the Teflon health minister and one we hoped he would have abandoned as Premier. But alas not.

Amanda Stoker has dropped a lot in my opinion. A sincere apology from Van should be the end of the matter but she raises the issue now in support of an erratic hater like Thorpe.

I always thought she was a useless unprincipled narcissistic airhead. As I noted last night, all the stupid bint has done is give some semblance of legitimacy to the insane fact and evidence free rantings of that Thorpey slag, which were intended purely to take the heat off those equally vile labore slags.

Stoker has caused major damage to her party just when they were gaining ground on Labor’s mean girls.

She was dumped from an electable position on the gliberals senate ticket in Queensland last feral election (obviously for very sound reasons). Her petty allegation against Van is pure petulance, leavened with, “hey, I’m a victim too” bullsh*t.

Let’s have immediate 24/7 video surveillance of every feral politician from now. You know it makes sense.

To answer your question Cranky, yes my wife knows my politics and shares them. As I have said before on here, we are friends with many of our neighbours including a lesbian couple, one of which was the Greens candidate in recent elections. We normally vote Labor, but we went Green this time because our friend is awesome.

Specifically on the Posie Parker situation, I asked her whether she thought getting jostled and having tomato soup thrown at you constituted assault, she said yes. We will agree to disagree on that one. No court would convict.

She is a true Catholic, a pillar of our church and school communities, a powerhouse of charity and community work. She understands Catholicism as being about compassion and works, unlike the trad weirdos on here who are Calvinist Protestants in all but name (and one of the more extreme variants thereof).

I will not take seriously your “pervert apologist” malarkey, since you continue to defend Bettina Arndt who was famously on the side of an actual rock spider in Nicolaas Bester.

Arndt is a fake and so are you. Why do you continue to use the word “globalist” as a pejorative when you should know very well that it is used mostly as an anti-Semitic slur? Or do you choose to ignore it because it suits your politics to join with the anti-Semites.

You are all over the shop. Have a think about it, Cranky.

To change the subject entirely, yesterday we visited our youngest grandson’s school for a ‘science’ exhibition. The theme was natural disasters and there were many volcanoes, earthquakes and bushfires depicted. The kids had obviously had a ball. There was even a model of an oil rig that exploded, causing serious loss of life and leaking oil. It did have a special dispensation as somewhat off topic but the enthusiasm of the builders of this model made up for their lack of attention to the brief.
What really caught my eye were the brochures, produced for each model and written by the participants. These were Grade5 and 6 pupils in the Victorian state school system.
I quote from one of these.

Facts about Floods
The biggest flood was in 1219 and it was in the Neverlands
Just six inches of water can knock you down
Floods hlast for days or mothes

Floods can contain poison dead animals

UK motorists warned of wearing jeans this summer or risk £1,000 fine and licence points.

“If you wear inappropriate clothing that restricts manoeuvring correctly, you could find yourself with a £100 on-the-spot fine and three penalty points on your licence for careless driving.

“If an incident goes to court, the penalty could go up to a £5,000 fine, nine penalty points and even a driving ban.”

Unfortunately not the Bee:

Army considers scrapping ranks including Guardsman and Rifleman because they are too masculine in move to make regiments more inclusive.

In an attempt to make regiments more inclusive, General Sir Patrick Sanders is poised to break hundreds of years of battlefield tradition.

Historic titles used by world-renowned Guards regiments and even his own regiment, the Rifles, could be ditched in favour of gender-neutral ranks.

Sir Patrick’s final decision, expected soon, also has implications for the Royal Navy. If the Army goes gender-neutral, the Navy could be forced to abandon historic ranks such as ‘midshipman’ and ‘seaman’.

When commanders are more concerned with their units being ‘inclusive’ than combat effective and dedication to their traditions the west has gone full-on suicidal.

Nah pervert apologist, I’m no fake, it’s you who’s the fraud. Funny, I do recall how you once write on these pages, in response to Jews being murdered, that some Jew killers have “legitimate grievances”, they were your words, you just don’t like to own them. No, it isn’t.
Dutton has booted Van from the Party Room, what Van does for the rest of his 6 year Term is up to him.
He’s been disgraced, so he might as well snatch it, but he’s got a hide like a rhinoceros too.
There is a bigger issue, that is that some in the Liberal Party had known about this for years and kept a lid on it, which supports what Brittany Higgins has said.
You’d hafta wonder what Political Staffers and others might say about Senator Van, since there’s a pattern of disturbing behaviour around women?

Not dyslexia or anything so grand, but just “I am having to stop every page and google 2-3 words for their meanings” stuff.

I don’t blame the kids, this is a reflection on the teaching staff. Not only have they failed in their primary duty to make the kids literate but they are either too lazy or too stupid to cover their failures. They couldn’t even be bothered to proofread the exhibits and insist on corrections.

On the other hand, they may be from the new generation of teachers who are themselves illiterate so they saw nothing wrong there.

That’s very commendable, but it isn’t entirely accurate. Yes Cranky, our kids do go to a nice little Catholic school. It is very important to my wife and I did not fight her on it, at least not at primary level. The issue might be more pertinent once the kids reach high school because there aren’t any really good ones in Melbourne’s west, especially for boys. She reckons we might put our boy in the train every morning by himself to go to a school over east. I am dubious. We shall see in due time.

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/jun/15/australias-population-grew-at-fastest-rate-since-2008-amid-post-covid-migration-boom

“Our population at 31 December 2022 is 26.3 million people, after we recorded an increase of 496,800 people over the year,” she said.

“There were 619,600 overseas migration arrivals and 232,600 departures, resulting in Australia’s population growing by 387,000 people from overseas migration.”

Cho said a recovery of international student arrivals was driving the net overseas migration rate to “historic highs”, while departures were lagging behind levels typically seen during the past decade.

“This pattern is expected to continue as international students return following the reopening of international borders, however there are fewer students ready to depart because very few arrived during the pandemic,” she said.

I’m with you CharlieP, cry. At first I thought you wre talking about 5-6 yr olds and thought they did a pretty good job, then reread. Oh dear. While I was reading your comment I could hear Bill Shortone saying it. My nearly 3 grandson can now count to 20 and can recognise the numbers. He regularly uses 4 syllable words and uses them in context. His favourite videos are how machines work, from vacuum cleaners to excavators, how to pull them apart and put back together. I expect to find the vacuum cleaner in pieces one day soon. When I was 3 my grandparents gave me a tinplate racing car, 15 minutes later I had it apart to see how the friction drive worked. Nana was horrified, Granddad was proud. We never spoke baby to our kids and the don’t either. We don’t think our kids or grandchildren are exceptional. As they have proved to their employers, they are. Probably because most these days are hopeless and my kids stand out. My outlook is, if you don’t have standards don’t be surprised by the lack of results. I think the majority here, aka you lot, have family the same as me. They aren’t special apart from the parenting received which by today’s standards make them special. I guess being responsible for them. Only smacked them on a few occasions, instead offered them the choice of a smacked bum or a cuddle. Which showed them even though they’d done the wrong thing we still cared about them. When they got older all I said was “disappointing”, then carried on as if nothing happened. Always stood up for them if in trouble at school. Children are the only hope humanity has. They deserve better. Gotta go, the pelicans have a school of fish trapped. Much excitement.

Arky, if it were down to me I would definitely have grandson out of there. He was at a really lovely Catholic school with his two elder brothers but the family moved further out and this is the local school he can walk to. His class has just been given a 65yo teacher who is ‘very strict’. The kids all love her, apparently, so we shall wait to see if she has any impact. This was a multi-class effort and I don’t think the writer of the quoted brochure is in his class. His spelling can be a bit creative because he is somewhat dyslexic but the brochure from his group was a pretty good effort.
I’m still processing yesterday’s experience. One of the funniest moments was when the group from a different class who had chosen a solar energy project told us that their model house should have lights on but because the sun wasn’t shining their system wasn’t working.
And Crossie, you are absolutely right about the level of competence of the teachers. But the parents dismiss concerns about spelling and grammar with an airy wave of the hand – spellchecker will deal with all that. Except that it doesn’t.

Make sure you check that place out early.
Look for LGMGBGT posters, rainbow flags, blue haired staff, bearded blokes in tutus, etc, etc. All indications of an ideology you may not be fully aboard with as a family. While in civil society we might want to give opposing folk a little tolerance, if it flips over to full blown indoctrination + stupid incompetence, that’s another thing.

The response is blather about customer first an’ shit.
A butcher quoted in the rural press is more honest – he said it’s insurance, power, labour and transport costs that keep the price up.
Why is meat so expensive when the laws of supply and demand say it should be getting cheaper?

You’d hafta wonder what Political Staffers and others might say about Senator Van, since there’s a pattern of disturbing behaviour around women?

This is rolled gold bullshit. The only thing Van is guilty of is pinching someone on the arse. He was solidly rebuked at the time for it, he desisted and there is no evidence he did it again. Perhaps he should have excused himself from this topic.

Thorpe would need to have more than her say so for anyone to believe anything that comes out of her mouth. She’s made that bed, no one else. Stoker should know this, she is doing no one any favours by pretending an arse pinch is evidence of serial sexual harassment.

It is a clumsy, schoolboy attempt at a sexual advance and we would all hope that elected members of parliament are better than that. On that basis, was I Dutton, I’d suggest to him his time is done here and he should resign from parliament. Brazen is for the alp, the greens and Thorpe.

That is the more likely explanation. I suspect we’re about 2 generations into basic illiteracy and it will grow

I’ve seen it in mid 20’s young adults who don’t understand the basics of english expression. From a teacher decades ago of grade 5 whose comments on a report card were incoherent to a 24 year old employee 7 years ago who didn’t know how to correctly address and write a letter or the envelope.

The friend who rang me last night to ask about Amanda Stoker also said that there are too many women in politics.

I suspect she has a point.

That also occurred to me last night but my thought was more age related than male/female. Too many young women are either in parliament or work as staffers which evidently leads to stupid behaviour. When women entered politics in the past they did it at a mature age after their families were grown up. We should go back to that practice and then will find that the current peccadillos will disappear overnight.

What’s more, mature age women have a much great life experience and acquired wisdom to bring to the parliament and government. I would prefer women 50 and over with serious attitudes to life, law and politics.

Someone I know started out as an emergency teacher (lowest on the totem pole) in a rough Westie tech school in the mid ’80’s. One day during a recess or class changeover a year 9-10 boy grabbed her on the arse. When she complained to the Principal, he just laughed it off as “Boys will be boys”.
She stewed on it overnight and went back the next day and approached the Principal again. “Look” he said, “there really isn’t much I can do about it”.
“I know” she replied. “That’s why I am just letting you know I am going down to the local Police Station after school today to report it as an assault”.
The colour drained from his face.
She was called to his office after lunch and the boy was there with his father.
Forced to apologise and expelled on the spot.

The commentary in the Australian, currently enraging Albanese and Mark Dreyfus:

Ms Higgins was “diagnosed as medically unfit for any form of employment, and has been given a very poor prognosis for future employment” following the incident. She was therefore due $2,521,314.40 in economic loss, it [solicitor’s letter] states.

The document, dated March 29 last year, claimed Ms Higgins had “not been engaged in any form of employment” since February 8, 2021, except for one day, after she resigned from her politics staffer role.

Which document also contained a cleverly worded threat of moah damages, huger and more expensive damages – inevitable costs that could only be avoided by settling promptly and without legal proceedings:

“If the matter proceeds, the claimant will obtain a forensic accounting report, but anticipates that this part of the claim for future economic loss will be in order of at least an additional $1,000,000.”

But, but, but:

Since March 2021, Ms Higgins worked as the media Adviser for the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria – a job she obtained with the assistance of her partner David Sharaz and his friend, former Labor Adviser, Emma Webster. She was also an interim media Adviser with the Queensland Human Rights Commission, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Ms Higgins was appointed a visiting fellow at the Australian National University Global Institute for Women’s Leadership at the end of 2021.

She is currently writing a book that will “shine a light on the toxic workplace culture of parliament”, and has this year teamed up with Ms Webster to launch a new company called Power Blazers Pty Ltd.

Just imagine what Our Brinny might have accomplished without a “very poor prognosis for future employment”. A cure for cancer and peace in the Middle East would have been assured – and war in the Ukraine would have been avoided.

Since you mention him…

‘Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”

Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”’

“…my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”

John 6.

The heart of Christianity is faith in Jesus; good works are the fruit of that faith.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is putting the proverbial cart before the horse.

In Do Their Mothers Know Where They Are? news:

High-performance guidelines released for transgender and gender diverse inclusion in Australian sport

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has released its guidelines for the inclusion of transgender and gender diverse athletes in high performance sport, reminding sports governing bodies of their commitment to promoting a ‘spirit of inclusion’ and abiding by Australian law.

They are in line with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) guidelines, advocating inclusion-first, with exemptions determined on a case-by-case basis.

Sports such as World Athletics, World Swimming and World Rugby have largely ignored the IOC guidelines, opting instead for a blanket ban on transgender women who experienced male puberty.

If Australia’s governing bodies from those same sports adopt the ASC guidelines it would put them at odds with their international federations, but if they follow their international federation policies, they risk breaking Australian law.

The CEO of the Australian Sports Commission, Kieren Perkins, told The Ticket that the guidelines were developed to offer the clarity domestic sports asked for.

“What we’ve been able to do…working with medical professionals, people involved in sport – both cisgender and trans athletes, as well as the LGBTQ+ community and others… [is] to actually find the Australian context and come up with guidelines that allow for a pragmatic approach.”

A pragmatic approach? Good work.

Oh:

Complications could arise where Australia hosted an international event in a sport where domestically transgender women were allowed to compete, but internationally they were not.

An athlete excluded under such conditions could challenge the decision in court.

“When an international governing body is owning and managing a competition in Australia, do their international guidelines supersede the, I guess the context of Australian law? That would be an interesting one for us to navigate,” Perkins said.

Stunning, brave and interesting support for the gender challenged. And, luckily for female women, the Australian Sports Commission is committed to “maintaining meaningful competition in the female category“.

In Good Hands.

Perhaps he just likes being reminded of the protection available to leftards involved in such incidents?

Barry Cable judgment: District Court Judge Mark Herron finds WA footy legend sexually abused young girl
The West Australian
Fri, 16 June 2023 9:40AM
Tim Clarke

Barry Cable — long heralded as one of Western Australia’s greatest ever sportsmen — did sexually abuse a young girl for years, according to a WA judge.

After decades of allegations, denials, suppressions, legal threats — and nearly five years of litigation — a judge today concluded that he believed that Cable persistently sexually abused the girl from the age of 12 into her adulthood.

District Court Judge Mark Herron found that Cable groomed and then persistently sexually abused the woman — and ordered Cable pay damages of $818,700.

As first revealed in The West Australian in 2019, the girl who lived close to the Cable family had lodged a writ, claiming she had been targeted and terrorised by the former North Melbourne rover over five years of her childhood.

The woman who grew from that girl sued Cable for damages, claiming the abuse at the hands of the Sandover and Simpson medallist left her “catastrophically damaged”.

But she had first gone to WA Police in 1998 with her allegations, detailing them in a long and harrowing statement — which became the centrepiece of her evidence in the civil trial earlier this year.

The abuse is said to have occurred in Mr Cable’s car, at his home, at bush locations where he used to drive, and at the swimming pool in Thornlie where he used to work. It also alleged it occurred when he played some of the best football of his storied sporting career.

“On 2 August 1971 the defendant took the plaintiff to the Perth Football Club in Lathlain,” the claim says.

When there, Mr Cable is alleged to have kissed the girl, pushed her against the wall, attempted to rape her on a bench, and then “struck the Plaintiff across the mouth as he was driving her home afterwards.”

She would have been 16 years old.

In her evidence she described how she was often alone with the star footballer in his home, in his car and his company — and he would abuse her at every chance he got — while telling her she was his “special girl”.

“Barry used to say it was our secret and that he was my coach and we weren’t hurting anyone and that I was a very lucky girl,” she said.

“It was always all about him getting what he wanted. I felt like I was programmed by Barry. I was worthless, a piece of meat, an object for his pleasure. I wished I was dead.”

In a written defence, first filed in April 2019, Cable issued strenuous denials to virtually every allegation. He also claimed that he had had a consensual sexual relationship with the woman when she had been in her late 20s.

But, he never appeared in person during the trial, didn’t give evidence and didn’t have a lawyer representing him — after declaring personal bankruptcy on the eve of the trial.

That meant he was not present to hear the testimony of four other women who claimed they were abused by him as children.

The second said her abuse began when she was 8, while saying Cable had been “shielded” from the public for years — while in private told he was seeking solace in the church.

Another described how she was molested in a spa while Cable was the coach of North Melbourne.

And two sisters then told Cable exposed himself to them frequently when they were 10 and 11 years of age, and also fondled them in a spa.

“He was a neighbour, but he was more than that … he was regarded as a sporting icon in this state,” barrister Tim Hammond said.

While in civil society we might want to give opposing folk a little tolerance…

Tolerance is so last century.

They now demand obeisance.

I was also thinking that the word “tolerance” has virtually disappeared out of the contemporary conversation. Perhaps because it doesn’t foster the divisive agenda currently being peddled by the left? Maybe because it is a Christian principle?

Further to the English abilities of 5th and 6th grade kids that CharlieP raised upthread, here’s a study today from LaTrobe.

Reading taught inconsistently in primary schools, finds Australian survey (Phys.org, 15 Jun)

A survey of 284 Australian primary school teachers looking at the strategies used to teach reading comprehension, reveals practices that are ad hoc, with little agreement in the Australian primary teaching community about how reading skills are taught.

According to lead co-author, Associate Professor Tanya Serry, despite recommendations about effective reading practices made by three national reviews undertaken in Australia, the U.S. and the U.K. since 2000, reading instruction in Australian classrooms is still highly contested.

The fun thing about this story is they are totally mystified. A whole article of complete waffle. But anyone with a brain knows what the problem really is: that phonics is seen as righty and the Left controls the schools. But they say nothing about that embarrassing elephant.

I’ve mentioned this before…I could read before I went to school. My mum taught me phonetically. It may not be a perfect system but it’s the best place to start. You soon learn about digraphs and idiosyncratic rules of grammar as you read widely. The newspaper was good for learning those. Of course, without a stay at home mum this wouldn’t have happened. On the other hand, they may be from the new generation of teachers who are themselves illiterate so they saw nothing wrong there.

That is the more likely explanation. I suspect we’re about 2 generations into basic illiteracy and it will grow

What a tragedy. Allegedly in the interests of students (ensuring that they don’t fail/feel bad/get bored yada yada) the dumbing down of school education has condemned generations of pupils to semi-literacy.

When I was in fourth class (average age 10 yrs) we had a roneoed, stapled handout from Mr Dawson of poetry and prose, which we worked our way through. It included prose from Joseph Conrad, poetry from Australians including everyone from Paterson to Slessor, short stories by Lawson, examples of different accents, and more.

I can still recite big slabs of it, more than half a century later.

I feel sorry for kids today, who are treated like morons with no capacity to appreciate beauty and quality. Because some of them can’t, the rest are denied the opportunity.

Mind you, their younger teachers come from the same miserable, defeatist tradition. Many are barely literate and numerate themselves, so are hardly likely to correct deficiencies in their pupils.

There are two important consequences of this catastrophe.

The first is the reversal of the trend in Western civilisation for the last 150 years or so whereby the benefits of education were expanded to include almost everyone.* This caused unprecedented social mobility, economic growth and cultural development.

The second is that there is now a very small elite who have received a good enough education, usually via rich parents, who are fit for the very top jobs. Sure, there are plenty of parasites in the middle where precision and accuracy don’t matter – see the diversity industry, the environmental industry, the MSM, etc etc. But the very top jobs belong to a tiny elite who are lucky enough to know the difference between ratios and percentages, or what a subject and predicate are in a sentence.

When I was growing up, the pool of people who knew that stuff was very much larger and broader.

*The first half of the C20th in the West was characterised by night schools, Schools of Arts and Science buildings in towns and suburbs offering avenues for self improvement, privately funded public libraries and so on. Both wealthy people and the rest agreed that education, including appreciation of culture, was a public and private good. But it was never a free-for-all about ‘affirming’ people’s feelings. It was about concrete achievement.

This Poem seems quite appropriate to these days of Craziness going on all around us –

“If” by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Johanna, that’s why the elite schools are so expensive, to make sure only the right people can afford to send their kids there. This has been the case for at least two decades but the effects are wearing off. They may have received a better education but they are still just as stupid. Look at the Anheuser Busch debacle in the US, followed by Target, Disney et al. These companies are run by the children of the elite who will eventually crash the world economy but they will still be OK while everyone else suffers.
