Mum used to fry fish, and the only fish she used was flathead. Flathead, once cheap and plentiful, is now dear and scarce. I also love eating snapper. Fried fish, Jewish style, is always served cold. Quite scrumptious.
The best place to buy fish in Sydney is Faros Seafood in Marrickville. It’s where Mum, my sister and I go to buy fish. I highly recommend it, it’s much better than the fish markets at Pyrmont.

The AEC today became aware of campaign signage outside of at least one early voting centre for the 2023 referendum that could potentially mislead voters about the source of a campaign message.
To be absolutely clear – the signs were erected by the Yes23 campaign, not the AEC. The signs featured the legislatively required authorisation statement. However, the signage prominently used white writing against a background that is a similar shade of purple to the AEC’s longstanding branding and were erected outside at least one early voting centre, in close proximity to the AEC’s ‘voting centre’ signage.
This combination of using purple and white colours in proximity to AEC signage could mislead a voter about the source of the signage, and by extension, the source of the message on the signage. Accordingly, when we were alerted to this signage the AEC requested the Yes23 campaign to rectify the situation by ensuring their signs are not placed in the proximity of AEC voting centre signs. The Yes23 campaign has agreed to comply with this request.
While the AEC has been clear over a number of years in communicating our preference that campaigners do not use the combination of colours purple and white in such a way that could be misleading, the AEC does not have any legal authority to prevent people from using particular colours. The AEC also does not have the legal authority – except in very limited circumstances – to prevent people from campaigning outside six metres from the entrance to a polling place. While AEC officers cannot remove signage that could be misleading regarding the source of the message, we expect our request to the authoriser of the signage to be complied with.
Requests from the AEC to campaigners to adjust or rectify concerns regarding signage outside of voting centres occurs frequently at every electoral event. The AEC’s experience is that, in the vast majority of cases, the authoriser of the signage complies with an AEC request.
Use of the colour purple on campaign signage has been the subject of a previous court judgement. This 2019 matter is summarised in a fact sheet on the AEC website.

Of course the exchange rate is important, so don’t get me wrong, but the credit markets are far more so, and I don’t think it would be a good idea to try and stabilize the economy. I don’t think it can be done, and then there are the labor and goods & services markets to consider.
You have a far more stable situation with a gold peg, I think, not that I would advocate a peg.

The FX rate would certainly adjust, but like now, you need the central bank to maintain the o/n at its suggested peg.
I don’t see how you can essentially lock in a rate at any level without allowing labor markets to adjust one way or another. I don’t believe the exchange rate would be able to counteract the impact.

My take on raising interest rates is that it’s deliberately a blunt mechanism designed to reduce demand and make everyone more efficient, in a perfect world that means an incentive for government to ensure markets are efficient, not distorted. Leftits, simply don’t seem to care, they are quite happy for markets to fail, for populations to go hungry and broke, for people to lose their wealth, because that makes them dependent on government. They see it as a win/win, as long as a compliant media and unobservant population and feckless opposition all let them do it.
I’d add, that all the problems causing inflation can be slated to government distorting markets in one way or another. If all the markets are distorted by government, what hope interest rates will work when the government won’t change the distortions and no one will talk about it?

The AEC recently replied to a post on X, stating, “If someone votes at two different polling places within their electorate and places their formal vote in the ballot box at each polling place, their vote is counted.”
“We cannot remove the vote from the count because, due to the secrecy of the ballot, we have no way of knowing which ballot paper belongs to which person. However, the number of double votes received is incredibly low, and usually related to mental health or age.”
This response came in reaction to a post by a Labor MP who “mistakenly” used #voteoften in a post on X encouraging people to vote Yes.
Consequently, this has sparked a considerable amount of online discussion and raised concerns about the entire electoral process. However, is this simply another instance of the AEC being ineffective and inconsistent in their communication on online platforms?
Should they even maintain a presence on social media if they cannot provide clear communication and ensure the removal of personal/political bias from their employees who are replying to posts?
For extra context on the multiple voting the AEC has also said that “The instances of multiple marks have never been of a significant volume and never more than the margin in an election. We have electronic certified lists across all pre-polls and continuing to many on-the-day polling places with real-time mark-off of the roll.”

Re the QAntas and Emirates airlines debate.
If Emirates and Other middle eastern airlines are receiving subsidies for fuel from the royal families – this is distortion which does not reflect reality.
Over time the price will increase due to lack of competition.
As this is a subsidy I would be charging Emirates extra to land here to make up the fuel discount.
This is similar to de industrialisation but this is not due to the price of labour but materials.
Western airlines will have to lobby for this additional tax when Middle Eastern Airlines land in their airports.
