Cassie, like almost everyone here, I sympathise with your situation. But you’re getting caught up in hysteria. It doesn’t help.

No, I’m not, what I saw today in Sydney’s CBD would intimidate and scare any normal Australian.

Pull back and close down the emotions. You need a cool head and dispassionate assessments in these conditions.

I have a cool head, but again, what I saw today in Sydney’s CBD would intimidate and scare any normal Australian

The risk to you is actually small, at present, and the risk of the Nazis taking over is negligible. Nobody likes the buggers

Yeah nah, not liking the buggers means nothing when it comes to the rise of totalitarianism. And if you were to go back in time and ask a Russian in 1915, or a German Jew in 1930, or an Iranian in 1975 that within a few year’s time their countries would become dictatorships, they too would have laughed out loud.

This Jew knows her history, and I’m fearful.

I donate $30 a month to the Surf Life Savers. They had a stand out the front of the local shops one Saturday. Possibly Grand Final day when I was grabbing a box. Chick was super hot and on the level. Cancelled another charity that was international and probably a 90% scam. Keep charity close to home.

For centuries the main source of wealth for the arab world was “Jihad” and the collection of as many taxes as possible from the most lands you can conquer.

Yep. Rent-seeking on a grand scale. See the Adriatic, above, and up to the Gates of Vienna, or even earlier on, look at Charles Martel (the ‘Hammer’, still revered today) who repelled an Islamic invading Islamic force at Poitiers in the C7th and saved France for Christianity.

Ratchet thinking. Click, click, click…

It looks to me like they have taken over. They are above the police, the law and governments. Physically, can do as they please. They can certainly do things white people cannot do without being shot at by SWAT teams.

But now we’ll redefine crisis and decide it isn’t so bad.

Which is exactly what led to this point… and on it goes.

1572,
Sultan Selim II’s Chief Minister, the Grand Vizier Mehmed Sokullu, even boasted to the Venetian emissary Marcantonio Barbaro that the Christian triumph at Lepanto caused no lasting harm to the Ottoman Empire, while the capture of Cyprus by the Ottomans in the same year was a significant blow, saying that:

You come to see how we bear our misfortune. But I would have you know the difference between your loss and ours. In wrestling Cyprus from you, we deprived you of an arm; in defeating our fleet, you have only shaved our beard. An arm when cut off cannot grow again; but a shorn beard will grow all the better for the razor.

Yes, funny now, but back then seen as bearers of light and the mark of an informed and intelligent man.

I remember coming across The Spectator in the late seventies. More humour, more book reviews and better writing. Couldn’t stand New Statesman though shared its politics (stupid boy). I remember reading a great Max Harris poem ‘On Throwing a Copy of The New Statesman into the Coorong’ back then which helped turn me off it forever.

I have been housesitting for my sister who lives in the inner-west. This is why I had to get the train to the CBD and back today. This morning I went into the city early because there was a rally for Israel and the hostages to bring them home. The rally was held in the entertainment quarter of the old Sydney show ground (next to the SCG), which includes Fox Studios. This huge space is now privately owned which is why the rally was there. Now hear this, the first speaker from the Board of Deputies thanked the owners and administrators of the Entertainment Quarter space, and he then said that they had asked Sydney City Council (SCC) for approval to have a rally today in a more central CBD location, such as at Martin Place, which was where we had a rally two weeks ago but they were told by the SCC that they could not hold any such rally for at least a month. Hmmm….right….yet the Sydney City Council was happy to allow yet another Pallie Nazi protest march for the fourth or fifth time. These rallies are disrupting businesses in the CBD, and you can see the apprehension on people’s faces as they are walking around. Before I got to Park Street, which I described in my earlier comment, I walked passed the back entrance of the Great Synagogue on Castlereagh Street, and there were about six police officers guarding the back entrance (I’m sure there were more on the front entrance on Elizabeth Street). So, I stopped and I asked them if they were guarding the synagogue (I knew full well they were), and they said yes. To which I said, I’m walking to Town Hall and I’m fearful, they are screaming for genocide against Jews. And you want to know what one of the police officers said to me? He said to me, and I kid you not…

“you’ll be okay as long as you’re not wearing anything that identifies you as Jewish”.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Australia in 2023.

So, Dr BG, I’m not getting caught up in hysteria, I’m right to be upset, but more than being upset, I’m furious.

I watched “the adjustment” on Norwegians’ faces last night.

Muslim shriekers demanding this and that, screaming at the locals like demons. The locals averted their eyes and kept walking. The magic of the evening had fled.

The hope – this will be over soon. They will stop. They will go away. They will change. Don’t challenge them, don’t cause trouble, be “nice”.

They won’t and it won’t. It will get worse. When one demand is met, another will surely follow. And another after that.

Islam is a remarkable ideology. It augments and fosters the worst instincts of humankind; it is ultra tribalistic which means that one of the delusions in the West that islam is anti-West is incomplete: islam is tribalistic but if there were no West islam would fight vehemently among its different strands. Islam is the most misogynistic creed ever. Where islam is unfettered and does not have to play lip service woman are sex slaves and chattels. Sexual deviants are are murdered. All non-muslims are not worthy of life. In short nothing but the prevailing form of islam is allowed.

The entirety of islam is devoted to expansion and conquest. The methodology of this conquest, staged dependent on the numbers of muslims in the host country has been well described by Hammond and others. Islam is brilliant in playing the victims when in small numbers. This victimhood guarantees the support of the lunatic left and media which always takes its side no matter what atrocity it has committed; the current hamas/Israel war show this.

Perhaps islam’s most clever aspect is that it roboticises young men. Men in islam are unrelentingly indoctrinated with no other outlet except sacrifice for islam. Young islamic men will do anything, even kill themselves, if it means non muslims are murdered. Islam has promised these young men (and ironically young women) rewards after death. In this respect it is a formidable eschatological theology.

However I still think the fate of Australia will not be islamic. The chunks will not mind if our society is further ripped by the resident muslims. When the fan is covered in shit the chunks will take over and the vast inland deserts will be the chunk’s depository of the muslims, camels and goats.

Powerline Blog don’t honour direct links to images, they block those.
All you can do is link to the web page (e.g. the most recent Week in Pictures) and then describe in like wordy texty words which picture we’re supposed to guffaw at.

First “headline of the week”… those Babylon Bee guys must be depressed at how often their jokes become true. One could argue they were funny because they were true on day 1, but it takes a while for the mainstream to admit it.

Ist version of this was “Israelis bombing hospitals” and keeping them under siege.

Im wondering how you conduct a siege of a building if there is no resistance to its occupation. Its almost as if there is some detail about the siege they are leaving out.

But rest assured, there is skirmishing “around” the hospitals, but no terrorist scumbags inside. Apparently.

Sure, and it simmered down literally on the same day Reagan was inaugurated when Iran released the American hostages. However, the region was never really seen as a hegemonic Islamic region.

And it will never be hegemonic until (at the very least, ignoring the many other varieties of Islam) one of Shia and Sunni has exterminated the other side. There can be only one.

We need to foment Shia/Sunni conflict, keep their minds elsewhere.

I disagree, although I’m mostly agreeable. 🙂

My take is that the wallopers are taking what they believe is the line of least resistance and hope that, in time, things will get back to normal. The line of least resistance is to show more tolerance for rabid Muslim intolerance because the cops are fearful that demonstrating hardcore resistance could result in nasty surprises like another Lindt.

Let’s face facts: Jews or Jewish supporters don’t behave that way. A Jewish dude angry at what happened on 7/10 is not going to head to Lakemba and shoot up the neighborhood. A mentally deranged muzzo may actually shoot up Vaucluse, Double Bay, or any of the other burbs where Jewish people live.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said the large police presence required for the weekly protests was costing taxpayers.

“It’s in excess of a million dollars for a major protest,” he said.

They’re monitoring kill-the-Jews rallies to make sure nobody says anything hateful.

Thank you – important to know. It won’t go away, we all need to discuss this.
But I’ve found it far more complex. Notice how many young muslim women are speakers at the various muz demos over the last few weeks. In my experience of over seven Islamic countries i.e following Sharia law, the women are the driving force of Islam.
The eldest son is the frontline enforcer and example for all the brothers. The many uncles are the finance and ideological backers. The daughters are the support structure ( and future breeders).
fun fact: jihadis are often named after their eldest son, part of the general trickery that the legal profession has to catch up on, e.g. Abdul Nacer Benbrika, also known as Abu Bakr ( father of Bakr)

The Queen delayed her visit because she didn’t want to distract from rescue efforts.
There is no evidence of callous indifference to the suffering of working class people, as implied.

Correct.
This was a tiny village with an ongoing rescue/recovery effort still underway.
The decision was taken to avoid distracting from that work.
This was the beginning of the “growing calls” phenomenon, where pressure from the media would force a reaction from Royals. I don’t think Betty 2.0 changed her plans at all, but the media re-wrote it as “we forced her to do it”.
This culminated three decades later in the Princess Diana post-mortem hysteria, which was exploited by not only the media, but Tony Blair.
Blair’s Republican agenda was only thinly disguised.
Fortunately, the Royals didn’t fall for it again when Ginge and Whinge ran their faux racism crisis.

This is exactly what I’m seeing take place in the UK right now (bear with me, it applies here too). The result of yesterday’s protests is that the ‘problem’ of hundreds of thousand’s of protesters swarming the capital, bearing with them the real threat of actual violence against both the Jewish community and the the general population, has been swiftly redefined as the ‘problem’ of Far Right Wing Extremism.

The political concept of “pro-Palestinian mobs” has been significantly clicked away. Next click: police protection for mostly peaceful marchers peacefully chanting “Khaybar Khaybar ya yahud”.

Australian millenials are so predictable. They’ve never met anyone with a mortgage.

My university ended early in post grad years for various reasons. I actually thank the Lord for that. Years later I caught up with my old professor at a function & he lamented the changes. “Oh” I said, “You mean post-modernism?” He gasped. “That is the least of it!!!”

Because of the various factors determining the Earth’s orbit around the Sun: elliptic motion and eccentricity, axial tilt, ecliptic obliquity etc.. the only times gnomons are almost accurate along a meridian are during both equinoxes and solstices. Corrections on sundial plates are otherwise required.

This was known and applied to various sundials since the 1700s.

what amazes me is that people used to work this stuff out with a pencil and paper

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab used to make available some sun ephemerides code which I used about 20 years ago to motor solar concentrating dishes to point at the sun with arc-second accuracy.

the JPL code had terms in there for eccentricity, obliquity, etc … even for diffraction to account to sun’s apparent position

https://medium.com/incerto/the-intellectual-yet-idiot-13211e2d0577

The Intellectual Yet Idiot is a production of modernity hence has been accelerating since the mid twentieth century, to reach its local supremum today, along with the broad category of people without skin-in-the-game who have been invading many walks of life. Why? Simply, in most countries, the government’s role is between five and ten times what it was a century ago (expressed in percentage of GDP). The IYI seems ubiquitous in our lives but is still a small minority and is rarely seen outside specialized outlets, think tanks, the media, and universities — most people have proper jobs and there are not many openings for the IYI.

The IYI has been wrong, historically, on Stalinism, Maoism, GMOs, Iraq, Libya, Syria, lobotomies, urban planning, low carbohydrate diets, gym machines, behaviorism, transfats, freudianism, portfolio theory, linear regression, Gaussianism, Salafism, dynamic stochastic equilibrium modeling, housing projects, selfish gene, election forecasting models, Bernie Madoff (pre-blowup) and p-values. Norsemen?

Archaeologists stunned by evidence of Vikings in Americas that cracks age-old mystery (12 Nov)

Analysing wood from five Norse sites in western Greenland that were occupied between 1000 and 1400, archaeologists concluded that Vikings had already visited the Americas long before the Italian explorer.

Determining the tree species that many of the samples originated from, the team from the University of Iceland were able to reveal that some had been imported from the Americas and Europe.

Hemlock and Jack Pine in particular were not grown in Northern Europe during the second millennium, meaning that wood from those trees must have been transported from the Americas and introduced to Europe.

Quite interesting that the Vikings took North American tree saplings to Greenland, grew them, then brought them back to Europe.

Which of course is an excuse for a song…

Breakfast time was fun, a cockie landed on my head. I reached up and handed it a bit of bread, but it couldn’t balance on one foot on my noggin well enough to free the other foot to hold onto the bread, so dropped its prize. I was able to get the cockie to transfer to the fence before any permanent damage was done, then picked up the bread and handed it back.

The Wong Chap is a piece of excrement from monty’s flabby arse. Herald Sun:

The Israeli Defence Force has doubled down on its claim that it is not breaching international law — despite Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong blasting the nation’s attacks on hospitals and medical facilities.

In an IDF briefing held at the Israeli embassy, officials working in their humanitarian law department said a hospital was a legal target under international law if it housed militants.

In a document from the briefing, the IDF claims Hamas uses hospitals as “strongholds” and claims “ambulances are used for transportation for terror operatives and weapons”.

But the IDF claims have done little to water criticism with Ms Wong highlighting attacks on hospitals and medical facilities as a breach of international law.

“We need steps towards a ceasefire. It cannot be one-sided. We know that Hamas is still holding hostages, and we know that a ceasefire must be agreed between the parties,” Ms Wong said on Insiders.

“But we can also say that Israel should do everything it can to observe international humanitarian law.

“We have seen a harrowing number of civilians, including children, killed – this has to end. And I am, we are, particularly concerned with what is happening with medical facilities.

“I would make this point in relation to hospitals and medical facilities: that international humanitarian law does require the protection of hospitals, of patients and of medical staff.”

Ms Wong called for attacks on hospitals to be ceased.

“We do call on Israel to cease the attacking of hospitals. We understand the argument that Hamas is burrowed into civilian infrastructure. But, you know, I think the international community, looking at what is occurring in hospitals, would say to Israel: these are facilities protected under international law and we want you to do so.”

Jewish community leaders have condemned Ms Wong’s comments and reiterated the justification from the IDF.

“We remind the Government that Article 19 of the Geneva Convention explicitly states that hospitals lose their protection if they are used for military purposes,” they said in a joint statement by the Executive Council of Australian Jewry and the Zionist Federation of Australia.

“It is incontrovertible that Hamas uses Shifa and other hospitals for military purposes. There is no evidence that Israel is not observing the laws of armed conflict.

“The Government of Australia should not be lending any credibility to this false and harmful narrative.”

The leaders said criticism of Israel’s attack on hospitals was “libel”.

“The libel that any Israeli attack on Gazan hospitals from which Hamas operates would amount to war crimes only serve to demonise the state of Israel and its supporters. These libels are central to Hamas’ objectives as a terrorist organisation, and are reverberating across the world in a new wave of antisemitism,” they said.

Cassie is correct. With this sort of shit coming from the mouths of the Wong Chap, Tony Burke and a multitude of others, coupled with a police force which is anything but a force, it is a worrying time for international Jewry.

Tim Blair:

Personality tests are a feature of our narcissistic age. Google turns up some 25 million options for various personality tests, allowing self-centred folk to investigate themselves at ridiculous length.

They’re not exactly scientific, of course, or often even vaguely accurate. One such click-baity test asks: “Which Beatle are you?” Ringo Starr, a Beatle himself, is said to have taken it (or so internet lore suggests).

The test’s unexpected diagnosis: “You are John.” To which Ringo, who ought to know, replied online: “Well, this is bullshit!”

Seems Ringo and his examiners will just have to agree to disagree.

But there’s no need to waste time on faked-up personality assessments. An easier and far more precise test is readily available to anyone living in any major Western capital city.

It’s a basic two-step process. Firstly, simply go outside and walk around until you see posters calling attention to the plight of Israeli citizens held hostage by Hamas.

Secondly, do not deface, shred, remove or otherwise damage the posters – which, after all, only exist to remind us about innocent lives at risk.

Leaving the posters as they are should not be a difficult task. They cause no offence. They insult nobody. They are deeply compassionate in intent and heartbreakingly poignant in presentation.

So if you can repress the urge to rip down those posters, congratulations: you have a personality.

Or at least a personality that indicates you’re a person. A human being. An entity capable of concern and empathy.

Perhaps you might even stop for a time in the presence of those posters to think about the men, women, grandparents, children and infants captured by murderous Hamas psychopaths, including: Erez Dan Kalderon, 12, Hannah Katzir, 77, Kfir Bibas, 10 months, Amit Shani, 16, Vivian Silver, 74, and twins Emma and Yuni Cunio, 3.

And so on, for nearly 200 additional names, all of them currently prisoners and playthings of subterranean Hamas mole men – themselves willing agents of death commanded by Hamas’s billionaire bosses, usually found whoring it up 1700km from Gaza in friendly and secure Qatar.

On the other hand, maybe you’re the type of individual who can’t resist slicing posters to pieces. Maybe there’s something about terrified babies and teenagers that gets on your nerves for some reason.

Indeed, they enrage you so much that you can’t even bear the idea of other people looking at them.

So down those posters must come – in Sydney, New York, London and elsewhere (incidentally, many of the people caught removing or defacing posters appear to be middle or upper class. Being nice, they’d be appalled if anyone tore down a sign pleading for information about a missing puppy, but missing humans are a different matter. These people, if they can be so described, have some perverse priorities).

The act of poster removal doesn’t involve much creativity, although your various anti-Semites have their different ways. Some laboriously peel the posters away. Others carve at them furiously, as though fearing an imminent Israeli manifestation.

Still others scribble anti-Jewish messages because that seems a normal way for these Hamas endorsers to cope with images of kidnapped youngsters – accuse them of being part of a genocidal tyranny.

But the real creativity begins when the poster-rippers get caught. A lawyer for Miami dentist and busted poster deleter Dr Ahmed ElKoussa told reporters: “His personal opinion was that posters from either side may potentially incite conflict and he did not want there to be any conflict escalation.”

That line about “from either side” is absolutely precious. As if there were images of kidnapped junior Hamas members waiting to be trashed.

Some in Sydney have described the posters as “propaganda”, a claim echoed by a confessed but carefully unnamed poster remover who told The New York Times that the posters “amounted to anti-Islamic war propaganda”.

Propaganda, however, is generally dishonest, or at least exaggerated. These posters present nothing but the basic facts. The people named and depicted in them are indeed held captive by Hamas – except, of course, for the unknown number of hostages who have already been killed.

Still, if the friends of Hamas want to go down that path, let’s strike a deal. How about this: We on the civilised side of humanity get to keep our so-called “propaganda” posters.

In return you on the Hamas side get to keep your own propaganda via the ABC, the BBC, The New York Times, The Sydney Morning Herald, Melbourne’s The Age, CNN, Amnesty International, universities throughout Australia, Europe, the US and Britain, the United Nations, the Greens …

Israelis don’t have to think too hard to kill these savages. They’re all hanging around hospitals and schools.

Israeli forces on Saturday night claimed to have killed a Hamas commander who held 1,000 Gazans “hostage” in a hospital as human shields.

The Israel Defense Forces said that Ahmed Siam, a leader in Hamas’s al-Furqan Brigade, had blocked civilians from evacuating the Al-Rantisi Hospital in Gaza City earlier this week.

Israeli troops have been urging civilians to flee to southern Gaza to avoid them getting caught in crossfire.

The IDF said that Siam and several other terrorists were killed while hiding out at a school building in Gaza, following a joint operation with Israel’s Shin Bet intelligence agency.

“Ahmed Siam demonstrates once again that Hamas uses the civilians of the Gaza Strip as human shields for terror purposes,” the IDF added.

“We have seen a harrowing number of civilians, including children, killed”

No. You haven’t. In fact you have absolutely no freaking clue how many civilians have been killed. What you have are claims from the Hamas propaganda arm.

So how many Hamas fighters have been killed in Gaza so far? Or have all the casualties been ‘civilians’? You don’t know? Why do you think that is?

“And I am, we are, particularly concerned with what is happening with medical facilities.”

Really? Exactly WHAT is happening with medical facilities in Gaza and where did you acquire this information? Can you provide us any evidence of the validity of this information? Without regurgitating Hamas claims that is.

So now the really tough questions. Why are you, as a representative of the nation, repeating Hamas propaganda claims as fact? What does that say about you, and by implication the people of Australia?
