In Mike Burgess’ defence, ASIO is now part of Home Affairs and no longer Attorney General Dept.

Clare O’Neil is not someone you might rely on to back you up and he might be stepping very carefully around the nervous senior Labor people whose electorates in Sydney are of the loud and excitable middle eastern religion of peace.

He has no control over state government police forces and does not want to be at odds with them either.

Put yourself in his boots, and you probably would be looking for a way out to be perfectly honest.

ABC reports with a straight face:

Former TV journalist Yekaterina Duntsova has been barred from running against President Vladimir Putin in an election next March because of alleged mistakes in her application to register as a candidate. Video from a meeting of the central electoral commission on Saturday showed members voting unanimously to reject her candidacy. …

The immediate torpedoing of her campaign will be seized on by Mr Putin’s critics as evidence that no one with genuine opposition views will be allowed to stand against him in the first presidential election since he launched the war in Ukraine.

Imagine banning candidates you don’t like using a flimsy pretext, only fascist anti-democratic shitholes like Putin’s Russia would do such a thing. Oh wait…

But I happen to think that confected outrage campaigns to bring down a government or subvert the principles of a fair trial are a little more important than long fillems of Great Danes doing not much or “comeuppance” clickbait revenge videos.

Now that is very interesting. It even follows me to specialist threads.
Dover, you do realise you are accomodating a stalker. Are you comfortable with this?

Cyberstalking is now a criminal offence. It doesn’t matter if the person stalking you uses a pseudonym or no name at all. All that matters is the act and the repetitive nature of the stalking.
If you are becoming alarmed at the act, or the words used, you may be able to ask for an AVO against the person. Remember that the act of cyberstalking nearly always starts off as harmless, but can suddenly escalate under the wrong circumstances.
Someone who stalks another is not a well person.
Here’s a link to the esafety Commissioner. Read it well.

Evan if you have proof I doubt that would possible.

Also it would be seen as frivolous and embarrassing to all involved.

His latest appearance on Piers Morgan – a debate with Israel-hating The Young Turks founder and host Cenk Uygur, is quite simply a masterclass. Douglas hits all the points and does so without getting heated. He expresses his annoyance with biting sarcasm and facial expressions, while his interlocutor raises his voice and comes across as a lying bully. Douglas had this won before he even began.

A couple of points on claims regarding the supposed uniqueness and barbarity of Israel’s war in Gaza, using Russia’s mass crimes at Mariupol as a comparitive example:

1. Mariupol had a pre-war population of less than a quarter of that of the Gaza strip;

2. Gaza’s death toll, according to the Hamas-controlled health ministry, reached 20k today. Assuming that number is accurate AND is all civilians (which would require us assuming 0 Hamas fighters have died, a dubious claim), based on population the death toll in Mariupol (est. between 25k and 75k by observers) would be anywhere from more that 4x to more than 12x that of Gaza. If we take Israel’s figure that 8k of the dead are fighters, than the per capita civilian death toll in Mariupol would be from ~8x to ~24x higher than in Gaza;

3. Mariupol didn’t have military infrastructure embedded throughout and underneath the civilian population, meaning that the bombing of the civilian population by Russia was unnecessary militarily and therefore was a purposeful act of mass murder. Questions of discriminancy and proportionality aside, it cannot be said that there is no military purpose to Israel’s bombing campaign in the dense urban parts of Gaza, as the integration of military and civilian infrastructure in Gaza is well-documented and pervasive. In Gaza, the placement of infrastructure by Hamas among civilians (which is a war crime) is intended to deter Israeli military action by producing conditions in which a large civilian death tolls is unavoidable in any operation to uproot Hamas. This muddles any discussion of proportionality, as the risks to Israeli troops on the ground in Gaza without a significant aerial campaign would be staggering, thereby changing the calculus regarding what constitutes a proportional strike in balancing risk to civilians to military necessity. No military would take that kind of risk, and frankly the operational risks Israel is tolerating in order to minimize civilian deaths (telegraphing strikes, providing windows of opportunity to flee, and putting troops on the ground where other forces would simply strike from the sky) is almost unheard of elsewhere;

4. Israel has legitimate casus belli to go after Hamas by any reading of international law, whereas Russia’s naked aggression in Ukraine had no such military justification and is therefore illegal under int’l law. Ergo, *every* death caused by Russia is ipso facto criminal in a way that deaths caused by Israeli are not.

5. We have no way of verifying the actor responsible for all deaths in Gaza. It is reasonable to assume that the vast majority were caused by Israeli actions, but we know that around 25% of Hamas/PIJ rockets fall short. To take a dramatic example, when the al Ahli hospital compound was struck in October, Hamas claimed between 500 to 800 civilians were killed; it was later demonstrated conclusively that the cause was a PIJ misfire, not an Israeli strike. Estimates of dead have since been reduced considerably since this fact emerged to perhaps several dozens of civilians killed, but either way this constituted among the deadliest single-location strikes of the war. If Hamas’s initial estimate were true, than 2.5% to 5% of the current civilian death toll was caused by PIJ in one strike on al Ahli. It stands to reason that there are many more such cases, and given the fact that there can’t be warnings given to civilians as to where misfires will land it is likely there are a considerable number of deaths caused by such incidents. The game-playing regarding the al Ahli death toll also puts further into doubt the reliability and authenticity of Hamas health ministry claims. (continued below) 1/2

money out of CBUS, as they do not trust the union or the fund.

They want the account to be maintained so they can continue to receive the commissions on the borderline useless insurance policies attached to it.
The middle ground a lot of people now use is maintaining the account & doing a sweep (rollovers) once a year.
A lot of industry funds have brought in limits like 20k minimums on accounts to maintain insurance.
It shouldn’t be like this but we know it’s not going to change.

I recommend Stake for superannuation, they do have insurance but it seems priced weirdly, I am in ING direct right now and the life insurance/TPD/income protection is dead simple. I have an old policy that has been upgraded a few times, so…

Stake is more expensive but actually SMSF. The basic one is exchange based only and the more expensive one actually allows for all kinds of assets.

I don’t know who or what owns Stake but I am going to transfer most of my super into it and invest in MTL/CAD through it.

ING Direct have served me well but limits you to the ASX300, which doesn’t cut it in today’s high inflation and asset price inflation environment!

I will keep ING direct for life insurance for the moment.

Catholic Women’s School Saint Mary’s College Rescinds Decision to Admit Transgender Applicants (22 Dec)

Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, has reportedly rescinded a policy to consider accepting male applicants who “identify as women,” admitting that school “lost people’s trust and unintentionally created division” when it made the decision last month to consider transgender applicants.

“This has weighed heavily on our minds and in our hearts,” Saint Mary’s College President Katie Conboy said to faculty in a Thursday email, obtained by the Daily Signal, revealing that the board of trustees decided return to its original policy of only accepting female applicants.

Conboy had initially claimed that the decision to consider admitting male applicants to the women’s college was viewed as a “reflection of our College’s commitment to live our Catholic values as a loving and just community,” but noted that it became “increasingly clear” that “the position we took is not shared by all members of our community.”

Translating from woke: our enrollments for next year just collapsed faster than a badly designed bridge.

Controversial former UNRWA chief to serve as Red Cross Director-General (22 Dec)

The Red Cross announced on Friday that it has appointed Pierre Krahenbuhl, the former head of the UN agency for “Palestinian refugees” UNRWA, as its next director-general.

Krahenbuhl appointment by the Red Cross comes as the organization continues to be criticized over its failure to visit Israeli hostages being held by Hamas in Gaza.

The Red Cross was in bad enough odour on the Right as it was, this is just rubbing our faces in it. I will not be surprised if donations mysteriously crater.

Solar panel firm with Greta Thunberg ad sued over £1.5m house fire (23 Dec)

Mark and Sarah Evans are suing the award-winning firm Green Energy Electrical, which installed solar panels on their five-bedroom detached house in Essex.

The couple claim the catastrophic fire, which destroyed their home in April 2021, was caused either by a fault in one of the firm’s photovoltaic panels or a heating fault between a panel and electrical cables.

Essex-based Green Energy Electrical uses the example of Greta Thunberg’s activism over climate change as a way of encouraging customers to go solar.

The last cattle train for the month departed the district on Thursday. The only significance of that is that our wonderful propety management family can finally take a long break. Unlike the self aggrandising media creeps, this break will be truely WE.
They have had a hard year with ongoing drought, crop failure, some Voice nastiness, and of course, State Government and greenie harassment.

They are outstanding property and stock managers with a big future. In that, they are not atypical of the current crop of young rural professionals. They not only devote themselves to the property but are heavily involved in most aspects of the district life, culture and politics. That’s a lot of time in the ute.

We pinch ourselves at how lucky we have been. A partnership offer is coming their way in the New Year. They may well have higher ambitions, but hopefully they will choose stay on.

A new term enters the language:

It is fast becoming the scourge of the Tasmanian summer, and a modern spoiler of the time-honoured family tradition of coastal camping.

Now the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service has issued a warning over “ghost camping”, which is the underhand practice of leaving tents unoccupied for indefinite periods, typically along the best parts of the state’s coastline.

Signalling a ghost camping crackdown, the PWS said it would not hesitate to move on those campers who exceeded the prescribed time limits at the state’s prime camping sites.

ANZ workers refuse to help man who lost his home in bushfire
Michael Genovese
By Michael Genovese
December 24, 2023 — 10.28am

ANZ has apologised to a victim of this week’s Parkerville bushfire in Western Australia.

Mark Norton was turned away by staff at his bank 24 hours after fire destroyed his home and all his possessions, including his debit card. He lost his pets too.

Norton, 65, is now living in his caravan. He attended the Midland ANZ branch at 1.40pm on Friday to withdraw cash from his account, only to be told by staff that they had closed at 1.30pm and would not re-open until Wednesday.

“They said ‘we’ve balanced the till, we can’t help you’. And I said ‘really, this is not normal circumstances, my house has burnt down, I have nothing’.

“The workers replied: ‘sorry can’t help ya’.”

Norton said he explained three times his home was gone and he couldn’t use the ATM because his debit card was destroyed.

“Three ladies sat behind the counter, they just looked up and looked down again,” he said.

Norton was told the bank had closed early for Christmas.

“It was like a kick in the teeth,” he said.

“This is my branch, this is my bank. I’d just like access to some cash. They said sorry we’re closed. I said this is not normal circumstances, my house burned down, I have no cards, I have nothing. It’s a few days before Christmas I just need access to some cash.

“It was like not dealing with humans because a human would have compassion.”

Norton has been banking with ANZ for more than a decade.

“That was criminal, criminal what they did. You shouldn’t treat people like that,” he said.

ANZ apologised after being contacted by Nine News and WAToday.

“We apologise to Mr Norton, and have reached out to him directly to ensure we can get him access to funds as soon as possible,” the bank said.

Norton’s home was one of two destroyed in Thursday’s Parkerville blaze. He says he is not looking for a hand out and his home was insured.

He has decided to switch banks.

Spiked has an excellent article called “The Year Israelophobia Took Hold”, by Jake Wallis Simons. This excerpt really strikes to the absolute heart of what is really the end game.

The first is the famous observation by the late Jonathan Sacks that ‘what begins with Jews never ends with Jews’. In this case, I am talking about anti-Western identity politics and jihadism, those twin evils that have joined hands on our streets every Saturday since 7 October. These target not just the Jewish right to exist, but also the flags, monuments and traditions of wider society. The hatred of Jews is simply the most prominent expression of a hatred of Western liberal values, culture and life. That’s why it matters so much.

How Shakespeare helped shape Christmas as we know it today

By Daniel McCarthy

The Bruce Willis film isn’t exactly seasonally appropriate in its themes and violence — but it does take place at Christmas.

If that makes a movie a Christmas movie, then what about a stage drama that’s also set (to begin with) at Christmas?

Is “Hamlet” a Christmas play?

Denmark, in Shakespeare’s story, is in disarray, much like our world.

Guards patrol the walls of Elsinore castle in anticipation of war and in trepidation of encountering the dead king’s ghost, which keeps its own watch at night.

Two friends of Prince Hamlet, Horatio, and Marcellus, see the apparition, which vanishes as soon as a cock crows.

The philosophical Horatio, who will later describe himself as an “antique Roman” — a pagan — asserts that “the god of day,” or daylight itself, is what the ghost flees.

Marcellus has another explanation: This is the season “Wherein our Saviour’s birth is celebrated,” when “they say, no spirit dares stir abroad.”

It’s Christmas, or close, and that’s no time for hauntings: “No fairy takes, nor witch hath power to charm / So hallow’d and so gracious is the time.”

The next night Hamlet goes with them to meet the ghost again, while within the castle the usurper upon the throne — Hamlet’s uncle, Claudius — celebrates the season with a wassail, a drink customarily enjoyed in Shakespeare’s day (and medieval Denmark) on Christmas Eve.

The play moves months ahead in time; it’s Lent when a troupe of actors visits the castle and is put to work by Hamlet in a scheme to prove his uncle murdered his father.

“Hamlet” isn’t altogether a Christmas play, but Christmas is a conspicuous part of it.

And there is good reason to think that “Hamlet” was much on the minds of two authors who shaped modern conceptions of Christmas in the 19th century.

Clement Clarke Moore’s 1823 poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas” (“’Twas the night before Christmas. . .”) includes the charming line “Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse” — which echoes the guard at Elsinore who reports “Not a mouse stirring.”

Twenty years later in “A Christmas Carol,” Charles Dickens would refer to Hamlet’s ghost in his own tale of yuletide hauntings.

In fact, Dickens observes the rule Marcellus set down in “Hamlet”: The ghosts are gone, their work accomplished, by the dawn of Christmas Day.

There’s a faint reminder of “Hamlet” in an earlier Dickens tale set at Christmas as well.

As in “Hamlet,” an impudent gravedigger features in a Christmas episode of “The Pickwick Papers,” “The Story of the Goblins Who Stole a Sexton.”

Curiously, the goblin who first accosts the gravedigger has a catchphrase — “Ho! Ho! Ho!” — now familiar with a very different Christmas character.

Interesting paper.

People once lived in a vast region in north-western Australia—and it had an inland sea (Phys.org, 23 Dec)

For much of the 65,000 years of Australia’s human history, the now-submerged northwest continental shelf connected the Kimberley and western Arnhem Land. This vast, habitable realm covered nearly 390,000 square kilometers, an area one-and-a-half times larger than New Zealand is today.

To characterize how the Northwest Shelf landscapes changed through the last 65,000 years of human history, we projected past sea levels onto high-resolution maps of the ocean floor.

We found low sea levels exposed a vast archipelago of islands on the Northwest Shelf of Sahul, extending 500km towards the Indonesian island of Timor. The archipelago appeared between 70,000 and 61,000 years ago, and remained stable for around 9,000 years.

From the map it looks like someone at the top of a mountain in SE Timor or Roti could’ve just about seen the islands on a clear day. That would make attempting the 100 km crossing a whole lot easier if they could know where it was they were going. So calling 65,000 years BP the time of first colonization of Australia would not be beyond possibility.

dover,

having watched many videos of Russia/Ukraine

Other than jamming, until a viable re-usable portable laser option becomes available, Houthi’s drones supplied by Iran are a cheap way to sow terror in the World

Air Weapons: Thermobaric Grenades go Airborne

December 21, 2023: Ukraine has demonstrated lots of ingenuity and innovation while fighting the invading Russian forces.

A recent example of this was the Ukrainian use of UAVs (quadcopters) carrying a thermobaric/FAE (Fuel Air Explosive) grenade.

The grenade carrying UAVs continuously search for Russian troops and only return to their operator to get their batteries recharged or to have another grenade installed after a successful attack.

Using a small UAV armed with an FAE grenade doesn’t kill a lot of Russian soldiers but the existence of these armed UAVs terrifies Russian troops.

The quadcopters are small targets and difficult to hit with rifle or machine-gun fire The UAVs are operated by nearby Ukrainian operators who are also taking notes on the dispositions of Russian forces.

The UAV operators are difficult to attack because the Russian don’t know where they are.

UAVs have become heavily used by both sides for surveillance, reconnaissance, and attacks.

These UAVs have become common in the combat zone because thousands have been built and used by both sides.

This has been revealing for military analysts and leaders worldwide.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine two years ago has resulted in the first, since World War II, major war between nations armed with nearly equal and similar weapons.

What is different is the heavy use of UAVs.

This has brought about changes in tactics and, to a lesser extent, strategy.

Ukraine developed and heavily uses USV (Unmanned Surface Vehicles) which are used mainly for attacks on enemy naval targets and bases.

Because of these USVs as well as UAVs the Russian Black Sea fleet has taken heavy losses and no longer controls the Black Sea. UAVs carrying explosives have attacked ships as well as naval bases.

Warships and their bases shoot down UAVs but since these attackers are not manned, the attacker can afford to lose a lot of them in order to damage the Russian ships and naval bases.

Before this UAV revolution, the attacker would lose more personnel than the defender.

Attacks using UAVs reverse that situation with the defender, no matter how well armed, losing far more people than the attacker. This is one reason for the attack UAVs to carry FAE grenades or larger FAE weapons.

Russia has been using FAE weapons for a long time, especially in Ukraine.

Earlier in the Ukraine War Russia sent some of their TOS-1A tank-mounted thermobaric/FAE 220mm rocket launchers to Ukraine. A TOS-1A carries 24 220mm rockets while a separate reload vehicle carries two pods containing rockets.

These weapons are a relatively recent development.

While FAE can be very effective, it is a temperamental type of explosive that is not widely used.

FAEs detonate and spread a mist of fuel (gasoline type stuff, or a mixture of other chemicals) and then ignite it. This creates a large, impressive looking explosion, as well as a powerful blast (called overpressure). The overpressure is powerful enough to set off landmines, as the pressure created on the ground triggers the pressure sensors on anti-personnel and anti-tank mines.

FAE has always been tricky to use.

If the wind is blowing the wrong way, or the humidity isn’t quite right, the explosion is something of a fizzle.

Russia developed new designs for FAE weapons that overcome many of these problems.

Current FAE designs use compressed gas to form a mist cloud of fuel. A detonator then ignites the cloud and causes a huge explosion.

The effect is like a nuclear weapon, for there is enormous pressure and a lot of flames. All the oxygen is also used up. If you aren’t crushed or burned, you die from suffocation because of the lack of oxygen.

Modern FAE chemicals are better able to seep into wherever air can go before detonating.

In a cave, everyone dies.

Even armored vehicles are vulnerable because some of the fuel sometimes seeps into the vehicle and starts fires when it explodes.

Earlier on, if vehicle engines were running, it could cause firing cylinders to rapidly dissemble the engines.

In 2017 the U.S. used one of its large (9.8 ton) MOAB (Massive Ordnance Air Blast) GPS-guided FAE bombs in combat for the first time.

The MOAB was dropped on an ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant) tunnel and cave complex in eastern Afghanistan. This area was guarded by hundreds of landmines and explosive traps in addition to several hundred of the Islamic terrorists. MOAB was officially known as GBU-43/B, and performed as expected, leaving over a hundred visible dead. Some ISIL men may have been vaporized and others buried deep in the collapsed caves and tunnels. A large explosion like this creates an overpressure that not only kills troops deep inside bunkers, but the shock wave also causes tunnels to collapse.

MOAB entered service in 2003 and fifteen were built but were never used for fear it would kill nearby civilians.

MOAB replaced the Vietnam era BLU-82 (Daisy Cutter) bomb, which used a 6.3 ton slurry of ammonium nitrate and powdered aluminum. MOAB uses more powerful tritonal explosives.

In addition to a more powerful explosion, MOAB doesn’t need a parachute, like the Daisy Cutter, but uses a GPS (like JDAM) and an aerodynamic body to glide to and detonate the bomb at a precise area.

Thus, the MOAB can be dropped from a higher altitude, outside the range of machine-guns and rifles. The force of a MOAB explosion is sufficient to knock over tanks and kill any exposed people within several hundred meters of the detonation.

Not to be outdone in 2005 Russia revealed it had built a bomb similar to MOAB, but theirs contained 7.1 tons of a more powerful explosive than MOAB used, and they claimed that the blast radius of the Russia bomb was twice the size of MOABs.

While MOAB is equivalent to 11 tons of TNT, the Russian bomb was said to be equal to 44 tons of TNT. It also appeared, from the Russian test video, that their bomb was a FAE (fuel air explosive). This could be seen from the typical FAE two stage explosion.

A Russian video also showed the area surrounding the blast, and the damage was consistent with an FAE explosion, and about as powerful as MOAB. It appears that the Russians were making publicity, not a factual announcement of a new weapon.

US says Iran ‘deeply involved’ in Houthi Red Sea shipping attacks

White House declassifies intelligence pointing to Tehran’s role and warns of ‘response’

The US has said Iran has been “deeply involved” in planning Houthi attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Red Sea and warned Tehran of a possible response amid the increased threat to shipping through a sea lane critical to global trade.

Citing declassified intelligence information, the White House said the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen rely on “Iranian-provided monitoring systems” to launch attacks on commercial ships.

“We know that Iran was deeply involved in planning the operations against commercial vessels in the Red Sea,” US National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said on Friday.

“Iranian-provided tactical intelligence has been critical in enabling Houthi targeting of maritime vessels since the group commenced attacks in November.”

The Biden administration also said it was considering additional actions in response to the Houthis attacks, which have raised fears that the Israel-Hamas war could spread to other Middle East countries and draw in the US.

US officials have said they have not ruled out striking Houthi targets in response to the attacks, which began in November, although the White House’s National Security Council spokesman John Kirby warned this week that the US would not “telegraph any punches”.

The US has sent two carrier strike groups to the region since October 7, and has deployed hundreds of additional troops in the Middle East since the war began.

“We are engaging in intensive consultations with partners and allies over response options since this is an important issue for the international community,” Watson said on Friday.

Houthi officials said earlier this week that they would continue to target ships sailing close to Yemen as long as Israel continued its war on Hamas.

The Houthis have targeted at least 15 vessels since November 18, which they have said is retaliation for Israel’s Gaza campaign — although some vessels have had little or no recent connection Israel.

Huge numbers of vessels have started rerouting away from the Red Sea since the attacks began and are opting to take an extra 3,200-mile journey around Africa rather than face the threat of an attack.

The Pentagon earlier this week announced a multinational task force called Operation Prosperity Guardian under which naval vessels and other assets will provide a shield against Houthi drone and missile attacks.

The US said that Iran had provided Houthis with financial support for their operations and that the militants had employed Iranian-style tactics in some of its operations, such as when they seized the Galaxy Leader vehicle carrier last month.

“The Houthis are replicating Iran’s longstanding strategy to seize civilian vessels in maritime choke points, as well as the specific tactics Iran has used, to include airlifting hijackers on to the vessel from helicopters with small boats providing security in their seizure of the Galaxy Leader in November,” Watson said.

The Houthis have also allegedly used Iranian KAS-04 drones, including some that were shot down by the American destroyer the USS Carney earlier this week, Watson said. The US had conducted visual analysis indicating “nearly identical features” shared by the Iranian drones and those the Houthis have used in recent attacks, she said.

The US said it also had intelligence indicating the Houthis fired Iranian medium-range ballistic missiles from Yemen towards Israel, as well as missiles that recently landed near a US destroyer.

The Houthis have used other Iranian missiles to attack commercial shipping, Watson said.

“Iranian support to these Houthi operations remains critical.”

Establishment Angling for Trump/Haley Ticket, but MAGA Says “No” to Nikki

She’s a moron. How wouldn’t choose here. I’d take a bet at the right price, it will be either the Ben Carson, or Kristi Noam.

Kristi Noam is just a prettier version of Nikki Haley. Kari Lake would be a good VP candidate, somebody who actually has some intellect rather than collagen pumped lips a la Noam. Even Vivek Ramaswamy would be a step up, he has passion and energy if not enough wisdom just yet.

The Sahul Time project from Monash is astounding. 25000 bya sea level around Australia as 135 meters BELOW what it is today. The GBR did not exist.

6.5 million years bya sea level was 110 meters ABOVE what it is and Alice Springs was water front.

If an election were held tomorrow that would mean an election without a campaign.

Campaigns change perceptions and opinions. Fortunes wax and wane week-to-week.

Dutton would be in a position of presenting detailed policy and poking fingers in Labor detailed policy promises – and vice versa, but Dutton, like all opposition leaders, has rightly not given too much detail because it can be used as a distraction.

Far side of the markets with 1km to go .. ground bone dry not even a sprinkling …..!

At about the same time I drive westward along M4 where it rained so hard the whole traffic slowed down to a crawl. When I got home the rain guage showed 2 mls.

Chris Cuomo After Watching Footage Of October 7 Hamas Massacre: “They enjoyed mutilating”

“If an enemy wanted to make sure that Israel would come for them, the message would be to take children, women, innocents and more, tie them up and burn them alive.

Just like the Holocaust…. I now know that is exactly the message Hamas sent, on purpose, at scale.

I was not aware of that before.

They did it methodically. You hear it in the voices, the commands, the ease and excitement of finding and mutilating victims.”

This is footage of the massacre of the Desert Rave partygoers put together by the go pros of both Hamas & the footage of the partygoers themselves as they realised what was happening & tried to flee by car & foot.

There is, thankfully, no footage of atrocities. That was not the purpose of the footage later put together by the filmmakers. They wanted to document how it occurred & the total evil perpetrated on the unknowing young people.

It has been published on the Times of Israel website.

https://www.bradshawfoundation.com/australia/gallery/index.php

I think that is quite accepted these days. The local mob used to refer to them as “rubbish paintings”.

We saw them in 2011 (I think) when we drove across the continent & up into the Kimberley. As I recall we had to leave our camper at Drysdale Station & drove the rest of the way up to the Mitchell Falls. Extraordinary country. Forests of palm trees at one stage – never seen anything like that in Oz.

The “Bradshaw” paintings are near the Falls, as I recall. Quite exquisite paintings of figures – quite reminiscent of the type of “naturalistic” art that you see at Lascaux paintings & those in the Caves de Niaux in France.

News Nation has what appears to be a partial and somewhat paraphrased transcription of the statement by Chris Cuomo:

Thursday was a very heavy day for me and some of my team members who went to the Israeli consulate to watch some of the footage and images collected from the Hamas massacre carried out on Oct. 7 in Israel.

The 47-minute film from the Israeli military compiles footage from that day, some of which can be found online. But a lot more than I expected was new to me, and I believe people need to see it.

I realized something that I had missed before that took me immediately and deeply into a past trauma: the exact feeling I had when I learned why 9/11 happened. Terrorists targeted the twin towers and Washington, D.C., to take out the great symbols that represent America.

The method was not madness — they were sane but just evil. The method was a message. Their unholy efforts triggered what America feared most: Terrorists robbing us of who and what we are about at home. And so, they got what they asked for — the wrath of a people united in common fear and concern that it is us or it is them. Existential.

We went after those who took credit where we could find them and used warplanes and drones and missiles and every kind of weapon and warrior we have to kill active enemies, those who hid, the complicit, the sympathetic and sometimes, even often at points, the innocent.

If there had been social media then, I don’t know how public opinion at home would have been different, but the fact that they hit us where it hurt is what mattered most.

If an enemy wanted to make sure that Israel would come for them, the message would be to take children, women, innocents and more, tie them up and burn them alive. Just like the Holocaust. The ultimate fear of what the world can bring the Jews’ way when a decision is made that Jews are less than human and treated that way in words and deeds.

I now know that is exactly the message Hamas sent, on purpose, at scale. I was not aware of that before. They did it methodically. You hear it in the voices, the commands, the ease and excitement of finding and mutilating victims. Being told, “Let them play with it.”

Merely murdering innocents was the least of it. They enjoyed mutilating and went back and celebrated in the streets with heads and bloody corpses as trophies. This was absolute genocide. That is a word that people are misapplying, and this is where it does apply.

Even more important to the terrorists apparently was what they left behind: Charred reminders of a Holocaust, the obvious desire to see as many Jews utterly destroyed as possible. There were dead women with bloody groins and twisted, disfigured legs that the Israel Defense Forces says are part of a pattern of rape and torture.

The 47 minutes show a small fraction of the dead, but it makes it very clear that Hamas wanted war. This was not the irrepressible angst of the desperate who want freedom, who want better, nor certainly want anything approximating peace. They wanted the Jews to know that they want them to burn — again.

I now understand better what is fueling Israel. This is not tit-for-tat. They are fueled by the deepest fears of genocide because those fears are real.

I am not trying to erase or in any way mitigate the massive death toll of civilians in Gaza or diminish the obvious need for the violence to stop. If anything, after seeing the video, there is an increased urgency to avoid what could still come because this could get much worse.

However, it is easy to say stop, but it is very hard to say how. Why?

Because seeing what the terror group in charge of Gaza did to the Jews and has promised to do again, how does Israel risk being vulnerable to those who do not honor agreements and have made it very clear they don’t want peace? They want to burn and kill the Jews.

On the suggestion to bomb less and use commandos: How does that not suggest to Israel that they have to do this in a way that Hamas can kill more of them and reduce their advantage? Stop bombing so aid gets in — will Hamas allow it in? They have a history of doing the opposite.

It is not about numbers. It is about Israel being shown its worst fears can be realized because they were.
Cuomo’s assessment is an insight into why Israel is driving as hard as it is to destroy Hamas completely. This is not, as Cuomo notes, tit-for-tat. This is an existential battle for survival against an implacable and inhumane enemy.
