Finally, if there is an ers that the right wish to return to, it is the eighties, which gave birth to the 90s. The ild “the right wants to return to the 50s” is an old, old leftist trope.

Damn straight. In the 70’s they looked back to the 50’s and early 60’s as the last period before the turbulence of the later 60’s when so much was trashed to ‘free’ society up for an idiotic new society. Boring old square ideas like monogamy, family, civic responsibility, decorum, and so on were out of date. It wasn’t so much the details of that earlier time as much as a mode of life they represented.

A bit like the way a smiling face perfectly encapsulates the emotion of happiness, or a crying face sadness. (Note, they don’t ‘symbolise’ these things but they resonate such that a person smiling or crying can affect our own emotions.) Those images from that earlier time carried with them the feeling of security, community, respectfulness, the counsel of tradition, and so on.

I liked the 80’s for the over-the-top exuberant shaking off of the pessimism and guilt that had percolated into areas of the 70’s. There was a shameless defiance in the 80’s.

But for me the 90’s and early 2000’s was a great time – before victimhood became the reserve currency, when politics was less ubiquitous and less savage, the music was still good, comedy shows were self-effacing and played on the quirks of the human condition, and fashions more of a ‘classic’ timbre.

I am in no rush to return to the 90’s. I doubt I would be happy there because I realise how much I rely upon things not available then, but there are somethings I would like to see re-emerge.

I am quietly optimistic about the collapse of woke culture and all the DEI, oppressor/oppressed cultural Marxism BS. The US is where this all starts and the advent of another Trump Presidency which will tear into all the straitjacketing progressive crap could unleash a renaissance like the one occasioned by Reagan after Carter – but turned up to 11.

And, please, no one with the reflexive ‘Trump won’t be President, the Dems will cheat!’ That is just an attempt to ‘give up with style’. The people who bleat it have no hope to offer. Sure the Dems will cheat, but they are no longer confident. One strategy after another has turned against them and Trump’s team is already wargaming scenarios, so I am not despairing yet.

The 80’s? Worked too much, drank too much, spent too much, took too much responsibility for people I should have cut loose and didn’t care enough for my friends. Tried to do too much. I wish I had half the energy now. Perth and WA was a great place.

Perth and WA was a great place.

Yep, I was a regular at the Silver Slipper, the Red Parrot and Club Bayview. Sunday arvo was always the session at Steve’s in Nedlands. Used to go to lots of live gigs….Midnight Oil, Split Enz, Nick Cave and so on.

I agree that parts of the 90s was good along with the early 2000s. I think the advent of social media has caused a lot of the rot and polarisation.

I am in no rush to return to the 90’s. I doubt I would be happy there because I realise how much I rely upon things not available then, but there are somethings I would like to see re-emerge.

It’s happening, at least in the US, and will eventually find its way here. I’m calling it the great reversal.

Bill Clinton is treated pretty much as a god in most Demonrat circles or the non-hard left. He made an amazing speech the other day. If Baba was good for anything, he could read the political tea leaves like Tyson’s TKO’s at his peak.
It was reported in a podcast I sometimes listen to. He basically suggested that all the things the demons are trying out—CRT, DEI, and bowing to the hard left—are a disaster.

CLINTON: IDENTITY POLITICS HAS BROUGHT THE U.S. TO ITS KNEES “Any time you spend all your time trying to settle past grievances or focus on our differences, you’re in trouble. We’ve gone through a period when the political rewards of grievance-based politics have been so immense that no one was able to give them up. The big political benefits have come from divisive tribalism. But it is a potential endless disaster.” Source: Milken Institute

He disagrees with his stupid wife. Moreover, this is an example of the final resignation or capitulation that Trump will be the next president.

There’s Bill Maher too, making light of the bullshit lawfare going on and how it’s a disaster. He also told his audience to stop the nonsense that Trump would end democracy.

CNN is doing this too, and so is MSNBC.

Even that piece of shit, Swalwell is advocating against “Soros” DA’s and a move back to law and order. Only because he’s very worried about his future, obviously.

I suspect the final nail in the coffin is Dementia falling over to the hard left and denying Israel the weapons to defend itself.

The resignation and capitulation of a Trump presidency have begun.

I might add, one more thing that someone suggested. Gagging Trump somewhat has probably been a positive as it’s prevented his motor mouth from getting into trouble. There’s some credence to that. 🙂

Well, made it Mauritius but our bags didn’t. Hoping they will catch up tomorrow, or they will have to fly to Capetown to meet us there…we sail out tomorrow on the cruise liner.

Mauritius impressions so far:

  • big and green – about 2,000 square kilometres. The main island is about 110 kilometres long, north to south, and some 50 wide.
  • Most of the place runs on tourism, but there is still some sugarcane industry
  • there are 1.2 million Mauritians with the official language English, but seeing as the place was conquered by the Portugese, French, and English before independence in 1968, there is a “Creole” spoken as well
  • was once home of the dodo
  • no global roaming for the phone

Buggered from the three flights to get here, but we will get and go around to see some sights….

Bill Maher Drops Unexpected Bomb on Democrats’ Fading Hope to Jail Trump “The Democrats have had four years to put Trump on trial and it is all just going away. They blew it at every turn.” 1.) Fani Willis is having an affair with the guy she hired. “And now that one’s going to be delayed.” 2.) “The stolen documents one; that’s never going to happen.” 3.) “She [Stormy Daniels] is a bad witness.” • In 2018, Daniels described her encounter with Trump as consensual. Now, she’s using “Me Too” buzzwords to suggest the opposite. Take a listen to what Daniels said then vs. what she says now.

National President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association rejects prayer room banHannah CrossThe West Australian
Sun, 12 May 2024 2:00AM

The National President of Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association has spoken out again on behalf of the organisation to object to calls to remove prayer rooms from schools across the country.
Speaking at Nasir Mosque in Bibra Lake on Saturday, Adnan Qadir said he was concerned that knee-jerk reactions like banning prayer rooms would only be counterproductive in the fight against violent extremism.
“We must not let fear dictate our actions but instead focus on constructive measures to address concerns,” Mr Qadir said.
“The motto that our youth association adheres to is ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ and we firmly believe that accelerating our efforts of education and dialogue are the most effective tools in combating any extremist views that people may be prone to harbouring.”

You know, help get these helpless immigrants off the street and into safe mosques where they can be given proper supervision, safe from sausage sizzles and uncovered wimmins hair….
Can’t see it happening tho.

An evening in Oviedo…

It’s some sort of festival here, looks like an ode to dairy – lots of “cow themed” products on display, the little booth-style market in the cathedral forecourt replete with cheese of every description. Even the fountain runs “white”!

Children everywhere, the balloon sellers doing a brisk trade in unicorns, pokemons and even Blueys.

Still a bit early at 7pm, we find a nice table, purchase a bottle of silky smooth red and settle in to watch the passing parade. And what a parade it is! Reminiscent of Verona, everyone is out in their best clothes, walking up and down, admiring the shops, meeting friends. Some locals dressed in folkloric costume make a brilliant splash – the men in tight pants and funny peaked caps, ladies in dirndls, crisp white blouses and damask corsets. A few have a version of the bagpipe slung over their shoulders.

A line forms at a nearby shop, snaking its way up the street. People are taking numbers from one of those supermarket number machines. I can’t for the life of me work out what they are all lining up for. After dinner, as the line had dwindled, went over for a better look. It was an ice cream shop, and more. The window had trays piled with crystallised fruit, nuts and chocolates. Naturally, I tried the shop speciality, a hazelnut ice cream in a cup. The Beloved, in his greed, opted for a double cone.

I dread visiting my lying scales when I get home.

What I loved about the 80s & 90s – the relative lack of tourists (particularly groups) – in just about every nook and cranny of the globe we went to.

We also did a lot of outback travel – when you could actually set up your camp without coming back to find yourself surrounded by others.

Same for restaurants – they were just emerging as interesting places – not the social measure that they have become.

On decades, it has to be the seventies for me. The decade of growing up, listening to music, falling in and out of love, and then discovering that I wanted to marry my best friend. And he wanted to marry me.

The clothes, the freedom, the deep conviction that anything, anything at all was possible, and I could do it.

The eighties were the decade of responsibility – young children, house building, relocation to PNG. The decade I became a proper, boring adult.

“So even the rain that falls isn’t going to fill our dams.”
Prof. Flim Flammery, 2007.

That was only one of his ‘predictions’ that have never ever come true – Here are some of them –

There is a fair chance Perth will be the 21st century’s first ghost metropolis.” 2004

2005 predicted Sydney’s dams could be dry in as little as two years, leaving the city “facing extreme difficulties.”

In 2007, he claimed: “In Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane, water supplies are so low they need desalinated water urgently, possibly in as little as 18 months.”

2007 said “global warming was so baking our Earth that even the rain that falls isn’t actually going to fill our dams and our river systems.”

An almost permanent drought. “Over the past 50 years southern Australia has lost about 20 per cent of its rainfall, and one cause is almost certainly global warming, he claimed in 2007.

In 2008, he said: “Adelaide … may run out of water by early 2009.”

In 2009, Flannery warned “this may be the Arctic’s first ice-free year.”

I finally figured why google search may be with us for longer and maybe AI will not be the the final death knell of the search engine.

Google search is free and the cost of running it are negligible compared to AI. Whereas AI models are very expensive to operate, and signaling that for this reason need to go on a subscription model. It’s estimated that AI will eventually demand…. get this… 35 times the amount of energy currently being consumed in the US. Huge. Bigly.

What’s this all mean. We’re screwed on the tech front as we don’t have the energy to supply any innovation to this technology. The dude who started ChatGPT ins currently investing heavily in modular nuclear energy. We better hope demand for resources keeps up.

There are two very important technologies that could change the world.
AI and modular nuclear. Of course, America is at the forefront.

He was the king of making quick, unpretentious and popular movies which almost always made money. The reason was that he could knock out a watchable movie in a couple of weeks, costing bugger all.

Contrast that with today’s gazillion dollar product which takes many months, even years, to make, and often loses money.

And his movies were not all rubbish, either.

Cattle rustling: Police charge three men with alleged theft of 306 cattle from Louisa Downs station
comment image?imwidth=110&impolicy=wan_v3
Emily MoultonThe West Australian
Sun, 12 May 2024 3:06PM

Police have charged three men over the elaborate cattle rustling heist of hundreds of livestock worth more than $250,000 from a station in the Kimberley region.
The 306 cattle were allegedly stolen from Louisa Downs Pastoral Aboriginal Corporation, a large cattle station midway between Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek, and trucked to a property in the Northern Territory in October 2022.
It is alleged between October 12 and October 24 of that year one of the men organised an illegal muster of the station by setting up camp then using earth moving machinery to create a road near the neighbouring Mount Pierre Pastoral Aboriginal Corporation station.
From there it is alleged a portable set of cattle yards were erected at the location to facilitate mustering without permission.

It is further alleged one of the charged men organised the muster by using two helicopters and a ground crew, which used bull catching buggies. The 306 cattle mustered from Mount Pierre Station were then trucked to a set of cattle yards were tagged as coming from Louisa Downs.
Following a request from officers attached to the WA Police Rural Crime Team, which was formed to tackle theft and other crimes in the State’s $9 billion farming industry, NT Police executed an Extra-Territorial search warrant at a property on the Adelaide River on January 18 this year.
Rural Crime Team officers were able to identify that some of the cattle at the property had been sold and exported.
Police said the average price for the cattle sold at the time was $827.09 per head and placed to the total value of the cattle stolen at $253,089.54.

When we lived on the Parramatta River in the 90’s, the park next door was the scene of a huge Muzzy picnic every Sunday.

The men would sit in the shelters being served by their property, and the women sat on the grass inside a circle of prams.

Every Monday someone would complain to the council about the scattered garbage and food scraps but nothing ever happened.

One Sunday I was walking the dog when a convoy of boy racer cars and beamer convertables streamed in. The men looked like Italian gangsters and the rather impressive girls were crammed into dresses a couple of sizes too small.

They were christian lebs apparently celebrating an engagement. Instantly there was a wall of muzzies lined up and glaring at them. Nothing overt but the threat was palpable and scary.

The christians ignored them but the muzzies stayed in place and looked furious.

I have no idea if it was a deliberate provication but it was a reminder that we know very little about the dynamics of our society.

Our christian leb at work said that many from the inner west were heading to WA or QLD to avoid the muzzies. Lots of engineers and builders so skills were transferable.

Last night I received an email from a local rabbi. It was an email sent to many, many people, after Shabbat. You might remember how only one week ago, Sleazy the Slug, after seven months of being AWOL, finally paid a visit to a synagogue here in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. I have no doubt that this slug of a PM, when he appeared at the synagogue, already knew how Australia would vote on Friday, but of course he didn’t reveal such a fact when he visited the synagogue, instead he played chaste and virtuous and demure, and he did what he does best….he lied. Oh and he touchingly blamed the university protests on ‘Trots’, LOL….as well as we all know this slug of a PM knows a lot about Trots, Bronny Bishop is quite correct with her description of him being ‘Albo the Trot’.

Anyway, given he visited the shul and sat down at a table with a group of eminent rabbis, many of whom are very well educated in both Jewish and non-Jewish law, many of whom I know personally, Sleazy the Slug clearly engaged in some classic obfuscation and deceit. So, given the lies, the obfuscation and so on, last night the rabbi wrote the following words in his epistle…

‘I am appalled by Australia’s shameful vote at the UN rewarding Hamas for their bloodshed and terror.

Today in synagogues around the world we study from the Ethics of the Fathers, specifically chapter 2, where we encounter a poignant line…

‘be wary in your dealings with the ruling power, for they befriend a man only when it serves their purpose. They appear as friends when it is to their advantage, yet they do not stand by a person in his hour of need.’

How timely that this passage was read today! It is comforting to know that many decent Australians are equally dismayed and want us to know that we are not alone.

I extend my gratitude to them for their steadfast support of Israel and their friendship with the Jewish community.

I don’t reckon Sleazy the Slug will ever be invited back to Central Synagogue.

‘Next pandemic’: Plans to improve outcomes for sexual violence complainantsLyndon Mechielsen

  • Exclusive

  • 5:47PM May 12, 2024

Some members of an advisory group set up by Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus are urging the federal government to crackdown on “inappropriate” defence counsel questioning in rape trials, allow the use of prerecorded evidence for complainants, and introduce specialist sexual assault courts.
The calls also include the consideration of a new “civil” approach to rape cases, where a defendant would be compelled to give evidence and the standard of proof would be lowered to the balance of probabilities, in a submission to the Australian Law Reform Commission’s wide-ranging inquiry into how the justice system handles sexual violence.
Queensland law lecturer and sexual abuse victim Amanda-Jane George, who is compiling the submission along with some other members of Mr Dreyfus’ lived-experience expert advisory group, told The Australian the sexual abuse of women and girls is “the next pandemic”.
“Globally, one in three women will experience some sort of sexual violence,” she said. “Those statistics are even more challenging when you start to look at women and girls who face intersectional issues – First Nations women and girls, culturally and linguistically diverse women and girls, communities with disability, elderly.”

The expert group has been conducting quarterly meetings with the inquiry’s commissioners, former Victorian Supreme Court judge Marcia Neave and South Australia District Court judge Liesl Kudelka, to discuss how to better outcomes for victims of sexual violence.
In her submission to the inquiry, Dr George will encourage the commissioners to investigate a series of initiatives, including:

  • Independent review of prosecution decision making
  • Vertical prosecution – where the same prosecutor is assigned to the case from beginning to end – as best practice
  • Specialist courts
  • Option to prerecord evidence
  • Improvement of access to information for complainants
  • Training for prosecutors, defence counsel, judges and court staff

the usual elite disconnect.

https://twitter.com/EurovisionNewZ/status/1789438344465658078

Israel wins televote in 15 countries. Second overall behind Croatia.

Way down in the official Jury vote .

I suspect that it’s not due to elite disconnect, they actually don’t care what the people think. The official juries (elites) in too many countries gave their top points to the Swiss entry for the simple reason that it celebrates the LGBTQ/rainbow crap which they want to be dominant in Europe. Those top jury points insulated the Swiss entry from the popular acts such as Croatia and Israel and their public televotes.

Anyone heard from Pol Dot of late, or is he engaged in a stint of Kampuchean jungle languishing (again)?

The 80’s? Worked too much, drank too much, spent too much, took too much responsibility for people I should have cut loose and didn’t care enough for my friends. Tried to do too much. I wish I had half the energy now. Perth and WA was a great place.

The 80’s? Got married, got divorced, met Mme Zulu and set up house with her.

7pm here in Vic. Cold night in Victoria and other southern states. Renewable energy (wind and solar) struggling to provide a meagre 6% of customer demand across the five states. SA, the renewable “icon”, is starting to burn dirty fuel oil to keep the lights on and Victoria is down to a paltry 3% wind energy. No solar in Vic given it’s dark. Brown coal is doing the heavy lifting at 76%, Similarly in NSW where black is coal keeping the lights and heaters on providing 76% of energy. Qld is is being fueled by 78% coal. Tassie has its hydro running at about 77%. We are riding a knife edge with energy supply.

“So even the rain that falls isn’t going to fill our dams.”

Prof. Flim Flammery, 2007.

That was the hit single, but there were other hits on the album, including:-
“New weather pattern will move South, and the rain which now falls on our Southern states will fall in the ocean in future”; and
“The ground will be so parched that even if rain falls it won’t be absorbed into the soil”.
It was always a mystery to me why someone whose “special skill” was tracking dead dinosaurs 100 million years after they passed through became Future Weather Guru.

Didn’t take gummint long to forget about BAT FLU .. When it comes to the migrant/Gaza influx I don’t recall the media publicity on the high numbers uptake of jabs across Africa or Gaza being highlighted …..!

As do Hindu Kashmiris and Hindus and Sikhs from the Punjab. And that’s because they’re Indo-Europeans. In Pakistan the tribe is called the ‘Pashtuns’, the name Pakistan derives from ‘Pashtun’. Half of Afghanistan is Pashtun and they despise the other half of Afghanistan, who are the Hazaras. The Hazaras are an Turkic Asiatic people and, to make matters more complicated, they are Shia whereas the Pashtun majority are Sunni. The Taliban is pure Pashtun and they have long delighted in persecuting the Hazaras.

The Bengals are a Dravidian people, the original inhabitants of the sub-continent before the Indo-European invasions. They are closely related to the Tamils of South India.

Bengali people would never be mistaken for a Tamil.

In Judaism, when those who seek to destroy and annihilate us, like the aforementioned scum and their fellow travellers, we will not speak their names because speaking their names honours them, and those two must never he honoured. The slug and Pong are true heirs of Amalek.

Hope it isn’t true.

The FT reports that we are edging ever closer to WWIII:European intelligence agencies have warned their governments that Russia is plotting violent acts of sabotage across the continent as it commits to a course of permanent conflict with the west.

Russia has already begun to more actively prepare covert bombings, arson attacks and damage to infrastructure on European soil, directly and via proxies, with little apparent concern about causing civilian fatalities, intelligence officials believe.

I’m not sure. As you know, I have no time for Putin. However, he must be mightily pissed off that the Europeans are supplying armaments to Ukraine, which they use to attack Russian territory. It’s not farfetched to think he sees this as basically attacks by the Europeans?
I think it’s made-up bullshit, but I’m not 100%.

The only thing I could point to is retribution, thereby teaching the Europeans a lesson. But as I said, I think it’s highly unlikely.

Don’t count the chooks yet, Dover. Russia was pushed back at the beginning when the Russian regime was ostentatiously suggesting the war would be over in a couple of weeks. And then the Ukes were forced into retreat. It’s only over when the fat lady sings.

Russia teaches Europe the lesson by watching, despite all their efforts via NATO, Ukraine being decisively defeated.

I think Russia would be mightily disappointed right now. Two years in with thousands dead and they held every card in the pack when they started the war. They chose the time, locations, scale, weapons to use, strategy, execution of the entire operation. All Ukraine could do was be prepared to respond to the unknown. All this in a war most observers believed would last a couple of months at best because of the overwhelming military superiority of the Russians. Frustration may be creeping in. No sane Russian would want a full on war with NATO…

Most certainly Putin expected it to be a short war. The beginning of the invasion was a disaster for the Russian regime.
Dover, do you think Putin expected this war to be continuing up to now?

JC
JC

Well yes, I said that Putin thought it would last a couple of weeks. I’m not asking you to “infer” anything. I simply asked you if you believed (without inference) Putin thought the invasion would last until now.

There were reports the regime believed it would be a short war, but I didn’t go into any detail because you tend to discount anything coming from the West 100% while crediting anything coming from Russia 100%. There was no point as it’s pretty clear what you would say. But here

Here are some key points: Professor Brian D. Taylor states: “He [Putin] believed and was told by his military and secret police that this would be over quickly—a matter of days to topple the Ukrainian government.” The Guardian report mentions: “Russia’s leadership initially expected the conflict would last just a matter of weeks before they declared victory, according to plans outlined by multiple sources.” Putin himself is quoted as saying: “If one just stops [Western aid to Ukraine], it will all die in a week. The same applies to the defence system. Just imagine the aid stops tomorrow. It will live for only a week when they run out of ammo.” This implies Putin thought Ukraine would fall rapidly without Western support. Research by the think tank RUSI found that “when Vladimir Putin began his invasion, he expected to take control of Ukraine within 10 days.” The video explains Putin’s flawed assumptions that Ukrainians would not resist and his plan for a quick regime change operation rather than a full-scale war.So multiple credible sources, including Putin’s own words, indicate he vastly underestimated Ukrainian resistance and expected to swiftly topple the government within a couple of weeks at most.

It’s obvious you wouldn’t believe any of that, however leaving these accounts aside it became evident because of the Russian rout at the beginning, the invasion was badly thought out and very under-supplied suggesting the Russian regime believed it would be a short war.

But do you think Putin believed at the time, the war would still be going?

Initially it was a special military operation which suggests that the expectation was for a quick result. If they had been thinking of a long war they would have started with a full assault.
