“We can be a country where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have power over their destiny.”

If that lightens the welfare bill for the taxpayer I’m all for it.

For some reason I don’t think that’s what he means.

It’s hard to say which is the nastier. The second is more obviously vile, but the consequences of the first are pretty devastating.

Most of their programming shite, recently though on weekends they have been running all these old movies like Ch 10 used to back in my youth.

And the video that pointed out starmer’s speech addressed the wrong issue completely was depressing. Starmer complained about the riots coming from the ‘far right’ and wants to restore public safety by attacking them. But it was about the public safety, or the lack of it, that the riots were caused.

Venezuelans are also fed up with the ruination of their country in a quarter of a century of strongman rule. Under Mr Maduro, hyperinflation soared (today, inflation is “only” 50%). In the eight years to 2021, the economy shrank by three-quarters. Corruption is rife. Dissidents disappear into dungeons. A quarter of the population—7m people—has fled abroad.

Russia and China support this regime.

Livin’ on a prayer, Victoria!

Beverley McArthur The Spectator Australia

The 10,912 Victorians who signed a petition to retain the recital of the Lord’s Prayer in our state Parliament each sitting day should feel well pleased: Victoria’s Labor government has acknowledged the overwhelming community sentiment against their intention to scrap the practice, and comprehensively back-flipped. I am possibly one of the least religious members in the Parliament, but I will defend to the hilt the retention of the Lord’s Prayer, of freedom of religion along with the other important freedoms of speech and association. All of which are under threat when socialists and communists are in charge.

A society with diverse faiths is like a society with many languages: you don’t remove English as the official language of Australia just because people speak other languages too.

Since 1857, the Lord’s Prayer has been part of the formal processes of both Houses of the Victorian Parliament, but my support for it goes way beyond tradition for tradition’s sake.

In Australia’s first steps towards federation, the Westminster system was adopted, and a constitutional monarchy was established. But the history of prayer before parliamentary sittings is much older: it began in England during the reign of Elizabeth I in 1558, and was formalised by the first Stuart King, James I in 1567.

The present recitation reminds us too of a formative period in democracy, with the victory of constitutional monarchy over republicanism as well as the divine-right monarchy it displaced. After Parliament ordered the execution of King Charles I in 1649, dispute over how an all-powerful Parliament ought to govern and precisely what gave it this right to rule, created factional splits and chaos. The consequent English Civil War cost up to 200,000 lives, some 4.5 per cent of the population and as great a proportional loss as Britain suffered in the first world war.

After 11 years of republican rule in England, the monarchy was restored in 1660 when Parliament invited King Charles II to take the throne. The Westminster system was established under the Stuart restoration, and the current tradition of Parliamentary prayers began.

When Australia established its first government, we took advantage of the hard-earned wisdom of the Westminster system. And that is why we say the Lord’s Prayer each sitting day. Prayers offer a chance for reflection, as well as a reminder of the historical struggle which gave rise to the stable, strong and fortunate society we enjoy today in Victoria.

Opposition to the Lord’s Prayer is not just anti-faith, it is part of a wider, historically illiterate attack on the principles of Western Civilisation. And, just like England’s republican Parliaments of the 1650s, those seeking to ban the Lord’s Prayer cannot agree what should replace the practice.

Ultimately, history shows us that the evolution of tradition provides a sounder, stabler foundation for society than the radicalism of ideologues and the societal surgery they demand.

I am sure the anti-tradition, history-cancelling zealots won’t stop at the Lord’s Prayer: the portraits of royals in Queen’s Hall might soon be in the basement. The Parliament’s mace reflects the authority of the Speaker and the House, but should we melt it down because the coats of arms offend anti-monarchists? Similarly, there is historical precedent with the red and green colours in the chambers. Red in the Council, like the House of Lords symbolises nobility and royalty, and green was a commoner colour being a cheaper dye. Should we re-upholster the chambers now in rainbow vegan leather?

We need to remember that our constitutional settlement is not just about the basic mechanics of government – we have inherited a living tradition, not a rule book.

Each one of these small elements might seem insignificant on its own, but taken together they form a rich tapestry woven by the experience of history, encompassing mistakes made, lessons learned and the wisdom of our predecessors. We don’t know which thread, if pulled, might cause the entire fabric to unravel. Every action of government seems to create unintended consequences, and the catastrophe of revolutions reinforces the danger. There is a real arrogance in those who dismiss tradition, believing they can design a better system simply from their own overpowering virtue and intellect.

History and the accumulated wisdom of past generations has much to teach us. When all that costs us is a moment of quiet reflection at the beginning of a busy day, it’s a price I’m willing to pay.

Beverley McArthur is the Liberal member for Western Victoria in the state parliament.

Obama People Take Over Harris Campaign, Push Out Biden Team (3 Aug)

Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign has some new faces, but most of them are from the old guard who worked with former President Barack Obama’s two campaigns and with him inside his White House.

The moves come as Harris, still the presumptive Democratic nominee, edges closer to officially becoming the party’s pick for the presidency, and her operation strategy will differ widely from that of President Joe Biden, reported Politico Playbook.

And as I said, when Kamala cackled her way to candidacy – don’t debate her.
Trump is receiving good advice for a change. Kamala desperately needs a debate to establish herself on the same level as Trump as opposed to the vacuous ladder climber that her record shows.
Vance can tackle Kamala on the social issues from a position of some strength due to his upbringing, career and marriage.
Trump’s campaign should mostly ignore her and start outlining the agenda for the administration.

Why military contracts shouldn’t go to the cheapest quote:

Engineers working on UK nuclear submarines have been using a supposedly secure intranet designed in Russia and Belarus.

The British firm contracted to produce the intranet software for £500 000 outsourced it, against MoD regulations that require such projects to be carried out by UK based personnel with appropriate security clearances.

The Telegraph (UK), paywalled.

It seems the ruse was only uncovered after concerned staff at the company alerted authorities.

Where was the oversight?

Kamala Harris thinks ‘the cloud’ literally ‘exists above us’:

“No longer are you keeping those private files in some file cabinet. It’s on your laptop, and it’s then therefore up here in this cloud, that exists above us. It’s no longer in a physical place.”

Piers Akerman:

The Albanese government wouldn’t make it to the starting blocks line in any governmental Olympics. In every field, it fails to qualify.

The first duty of any government is to protect its citizens and this rabble can’t at any level. Our defence force doesn’t have the manpower or equipment on land, sea or in the air to meet the current threat level, nor to support our allies. Defence Minister and Deputy PM Richard Marles’s hollowed-out portfolio is run by bureaucrats and brass who have no history of successful procurement procedures or recruitment.

The second duty is to protect our borders and, again, the Albanese government has shown itself to be a slave to the Left’s no-borders dream and has left us unprotected with reduced surveillance flights and limited sea-borne operations.

Third, there is an inherent responsibility to ensure that the national culture is respected. In this, not only has the government failed but in bowing to its most extreme Green-Left supporters, it has worked to undermine national unity by encouraging migrants to hold fast to their previous nationalities and tribal customs and rituals, and it has facilitated this divisive policy by providing more support for more translators so newly arrived residents and citizens don’t have to bother learning the national language.

This policy has encouraged the development of enclaves where holders of Australian citizenship have little or no understanding of the language of the nation to which they have pledged allegiance. Newly minted Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke should be well aware of the refusal of many in the largest minority in his electorate, the Arabic-speaking Muslims, to assimilate.

Further, this government has granted visas to citizens from populations in regions such as Gaza where the overwhelming majority despise the liberal democratic principles that have enabled Australia to prosper since European settlement.

It has also invited residents from the West Bank and Gaza, where polls show massive support for terrorism, to apply for scholarships to study in Australia, with cybersecurity a major subject. The Palestine Authority, which pays salaries to terrorists who have been captured and are languishing in Israeli prisons, must support these applicants or they would not be permitted to travel.

Under Penny Wong’s leadership, foreign policy has been so corrupted,

Australia now sides with autocratic and theocratic governments in attempts to undermine the legitimacy of the only liberal democracy in the Middle East, Israel, and has received praise from the terrorist organisation Hamas for its endeavours.

Not to mention the millions the government has provided to the polluted UN refugee organisation, UNRWA, many of whose employees took part in the October 7 invasion of southern Israel and were later found to be assisting Hamas in kidnapping.

Climate and Energy Minister Chris Bowen’s refusal to acknowledge potential energy sources other than unreliable wind and solar demonstrates an Olympian gold medal degree of ignorance.

Productivity is falling through the floor but Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek’s approach to possible economic gains is entirely negative, ensuring that green and red tape trips investors. Net Zero nihilism.

Forget unifying the nation, the government’s 2023 referendum became the most divisive issue since Vietnam in the 1960s, and it is clear that it remains clueless about Indigenous issues beyond maintaining a cult of victimhood.

Economics is not its strong suit either, with Treasurer Jim Chalmers casting about for policies that reek of the central planning failures of the former Soviet Union.

Far from medalling in the interests of the nation, the federal government is cruelly and destructively meddling.

Gold medal wankery is what Labor are gifted in.
Akerman forgot Tony Burqa however, who claimed outrage over CFMEU shenanigans, and his statements of pride over the Palli flag over Town Hall.
Tits Shorten and his NDIS is hemorrhaging.
And all Albo can talk about is giving green jobs to black fellas. And we have another year of Labor, er, governance.

I never knew any of this background. What I do know is that Michelle hates America, probably even more than her husband.

@TonySeruga

Contrary to what has been reported for years about Michelle not wanting to be President and having an aversion to politics, that is pure BS.

Michelle has been groomed for this her entire life. Growing up in the Jesse Jackson household (she pretty much lived there) with BFF Santita Jackson, they would practice debates. Both were very involved in politics even as high schoolers.

When Jesse’s son was disqualified from running for president due to his drug use, Jesse began focusing on Michelle and was obsessed for a time with the ‘first black President’, being a woman.

Michelle became heavily involved in community activism. Then came along smooth talker Barack Obama. The rest is history.

Today, Barack has a serious issue with executing a 4th term using Kamala Harris namely due to Hillary Clinton’s involvement. Hillary has embedded herself with the Harris crew. This is a war and we all know what can happen in the fog of war.

Democrat leadership never wanted Kamala, but they might be stuck with her now. They absolutely must protect her from the public, any Q&A, or devastating off-script disasters until the election.

However, the Chicago DNC convention and riots will be the big reveal. There are still a number of very powerful Democrats with an army of antifa at their disposal, that do not approve of Kamala.

So I would not discount Barack getting his way, but Hillary is definitely an opponent worthy of at least a little fear and having counter actions at the ready. Even going on offense.

Guaranteed, Hillary Clinton will most certainly throw Kamala under the bus and stab Barack and Michelle in the back again and again in her pursuit of a Clinton presidency. But don’t discount the street fighting skills of the Obamas and at the Chicago DNC conference, they have hometown advantage.

I’ll just preface this by saying…..

I do not like Islam.

I never have liked Islam. It’s a spurious religious and political ideology where the good parts were plagiarised and pinched from Judaism and Christianity and where the bad parts were invented and justified by the mad ramblings of a mentally ill creep from Mecca aka Mo the Maniac, all because he wanted to do things such as have sex with a nine year old girl, rape Jewish women captives and behead adolescent Jewish males, and of course, we see Mo’s template used again and again, such as when used against young Yazidi girls on the plains of Iraq and Syria, and on October 7 2023 when Jewish men and women were raped and butchered. Don’t forget that those crimes against young Yazidi girls were aided, abetted and cheered on by many Australian ISIS ‘brides’, women brought back to this country by an Islamist loving federal government.

Yet, despite my legitimate issues with Islam, I don’t like to see pictures and footage of riots outside mosques, even though in almost all Muslim majority countries churches and temples and any few remaining synagogues need constant protection from ‘peaceful’ rioting Muslims.

So, seeing indigenous English males riot outside the mosque in Southport, once upon a time I would have been disturbed and outraged by such acts, but here’s the thing, I am not outraged by this, I have zero sympathy for the mosque or for those people who attend the mosque.

In November last year, there were a protest and riot outside a synagogue in a heavily Jewish suburb of Melbourne. Muslim and leftist scum turned up on a Friday night, outside a synagogue, knowing full well that it was Shabbat, a holy night, to intimidate, harass and threaten Jews. It was reminiscent of 1930s Germany. And Victorian police did little, another example of two-tier policing. Oh and anyone remember our resident Nazi, who’s so obsessed with Nazism (it takes a Nazi to know a Nazi) come on here and eagerly denounce what ensued that Friday night in Caulfield? No, of course not, he was hiding in his corner, because his sympathies weren’t with the Jews of Caulfield, they were and are with the Muslim and leftist Nazis who stood on that street in Caulfield, screaming, screeching and hurling abuse at Jews.

Muslims will reap what they sow. For me, I don’t care if I see riots and protests outside mosques. I simply no longer give a shit.

Hawker said Trump was distancing himself from Vance, and that Vance was not really able to walk back his cat lady comments, it just showed the true nature of “populists” when the “curtain was drawn back to reveal the actor behind it”.
What a load of tosh. Bruce shows no interest in drawing back the curtain concealing who in the Democrat hierarchy is controlling play. He goes along with the “Kamala is great” tosh as well.

It’s a public relations stunt to bolster marketing for the “green” energy scam whilst giving Albo an Aboriginal talking point that distracts from The Voice failure. Just another tricky, dishonest move by the Labor strategists.Of course there will be grants and seeding funds for exciting new ventures and lots of media opportunities starring Blackout Bowen, Albo and an Aboriginal Co-op manager or two. But, at the end of the day, don’t be surprised if this exciting brain fart dissolves into net zero.

Highlights were reopening a 1930’s missing person case and saying going to have 30% indigenous cops. Even apologised for this Howard Government intervention.

So Trump had said he would debate the Democrat nominee once they had actually been chosen – the situation with Biden gone was uncharted waters and only an idiot would think the Dims could be trusted with a candidate chosen by ‘novel’ means when they had already abandoned the long established method. Pulling another switch would just be more novelty.

Within a couple of hours of Kamala accepting nomination Trump said the debate was on.

Real running scared. (/sarc)

The ABC network is out because there is currently a defamation case involving George Slopanopoulos – so there is a conflict of interest.

Now the Dims are whining that his choice of Fox is looking for protection – as if Biden’s CNN and then ABC were not Democrat refuges. But Fox is known to have a significant anti-Trump (him personally) sentiment.

Harris is a flake. She has been backtracking on long held positions all over the place, which will not look good in a debate “How and why she changed her mind, we don’t know.” And her Dr Hibbert laugh will be really annoying in a debate situation where she does does that yelping laugh when people are waiting to hear her answer.

I think the Dims may well insist that hide like the limp dicks they are behind the fig leaf of Fox being far right – their supporters will accept that and it will cost them no votes. Trump gains whether he debates her (and gives her free rein to make a fool of herself) or doesn’t (and can talk about he gutless she was when the previous debate was on CNN).

Better that the NT Police addressed the lawlessness in Alice Springs. Those living there are living in terror, the streets of the town unsafe after dark and even in the daylight hours. People en masse want to leave the place but cannot get out because they cannot sell their homes as no one wants to buy them. That’s how lawless and unsafe Alice Springs now is. It is intolerable. This state of 3rd world lawlessness should not exist in Australia. It is a complete failure of the NT Government and the NT Police. Northern Territory Police should be cracking down hard in disorder and crime in Alice Springs and Darwin and Katherine and other towns in the NT rather than getting about with face paint on. Trump has walked towards the fire many times, it’s what he does. The latest example being the sit down with the Black Journalists (what a racist organisation).

It was great to hear him say that he had been told Kamala (still only presumptive nominee) was supposed to be there but she wasn’t. After her claiming that Trump was running scared of here we saw it was actually her that was the no-show.

Then there was that woman next to him asking the ridiculously biased, and I suppose in her mind ‘gotcha’, questions that were so tendentious that the question mark on the end must have felt embarrassed. Trump pointed out that Harris had long traded on her being Indian, and without a moment’s pause she insists that Kamala had always referred to herself as black. That cannot have been based on knowledge of history so either she speaks with absolute confidence when she is wrong or she deliberately lies. Neither make her a good person. But they both would make her the consummate progressive j’ismist.

Yeah, totally believable.

Anti-Semitic Officeworks staffer ‘sorry, has changed view’ (Paywallian)

New Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke says an Officeworks staff member who refused service to a Jewish customer in March has apologised, visited the Holocaust Museum, improved their understanding and changed their view.

He said this was evidence that “we’ve, in fact, moved forward in that long process which is so important of stamping out anti-Semitism.”

“I’ve never had any truck with any form of hate-speech. I’ve dedicated a hell of a lot of my career to making sure that we have the strongest protections against hate speech,” he said.

Mr Burke told Sky News that people should not be “refused service for who they are” after the Officeworks staff member refused to laminate a Jewish newspaper because she was “pro-Palestinian.”

On Thursday, The Australian revealed footage of the incident, with the Jewish customer going on to take Officeworks to an anti-discrimination tribunal over the confrontation.

Mr Burke said he had spoken to the government’s special envoy for anti-Semitism, Jillian Segal, who had been dealing “quite directly” with this issue and that the Officeworks staff member had been given a “formal, final warning.”

He said the worker had been taken to the Holocaust Museum and that the staff member had now “not only issued an apology but also has a much deeper understanding of the issue and Officeworks.”

“I understand Wesfarmers generally are now working specifically with Jillian Segal on making sure they can get the right policies in place so that their staff are properly trained to avoid this happening,” Mr Burke told Sky News. “I don’t start with what’s the punishment. I start with how can we best stamp out anti-Semitism.”

Wesfarmers are obviously terrified of becoming the next Bud Light. Good.

Albanese rules out Makarrata commission
Anthony Albanese says his government won’t pursue the remaining elements of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, rejecting a Makarrata commission to oversee treaty and truth-telling but suggesting Makarrata could take different “forms” in the future.

After putting his climate and industry policies at the heart of a revamped Indigenous Affairs agenda that Labor will take to the next election, the Prime Minister said treaties would continue to be pursued by the states and territories and the government was not planning for a truth and justice commission.

“That’s not what we have proposed. What we have proposed is Makarrata just being the idea of coming together,” Mr Albanese told the ABC’s Insiders program from the Garma festival.

“Ongoing engagement is what we do with coming together. Now, that might take forms as it evolves … I don’t pre-empt it. What it means is listening to and respecting First Nations people and then responding.

“We know that what we’ve been doing up to now where more than half, or more than two thirds, tragically, of the Closing the Gap targets currently aren’t on track to being met. So we can’t just do things the same way. And part of that, of course, involves and must involve listening to people who are directly affected.”

The Uluru Statement from the Heart called for a First Nations voice enshrined in the Constitution – which was rejected by Australians at the referendum last year – followed by a Makarrata commission “to supervise a process of agreement-making between governments and First Nations and truth-telling about our history”.

Mr Albanese said treaty was being negotiated through the states and territories before and after the referendum.

“That’s at different stages, and that is appropriate given that there are different views and not one homogenous grouping around the country,” he said.

“We weren’t progressing a national treaty before the referendum. What was occurring was that states and territories were acting on that. And with regard to Makarrata, a Yolngu word that simply means a coming together after struggle. I’m somewhat perplexed at why people see that as being complex.

“Obviously, there has been a struggle for First Nations people. That’s why we talk about Closing the Gap, or what is really a chasm in some areas. And coming together is a principle of walking together, that engagement. It’s not a moment in time. It’s a process of coming together after struggle.”

Paul Thorpe and others had some videos up of protests in London about this and the Met Pol were going all Stasi randomly arresting people for no reason. Reminded me of the Victorian COVID protests before the cops responded with violence after corrupt Dan ran out of patience. Cops there obviously have been instructed to go all out to intimidate as well.

Brits unlike Australians have that disobedient streak with the balls to back it up like ULEZ destruction or spaying out speed camera lenses. Could calm down now or could get a whole lot worse especially if the soccer hooligans get in on it.

Kamala is going to have to deal with her history of climbing the greasy pole on her knees.

Demosthenes, the Athenian orator, had a stammer (a real one, not a Biden one) overcame his impediment by stuffing pebbles into his mouth and then speaking. By articulating so deliberately he learned to speak anew without the stutter. He would remove the pebbles one by one until he spoke as fluently as anyone else.

Kamala could explain that Willie Brown was helping her overcome a stutter…

Save our waves: Surfing pumps $2.71 billion into the Australian economy and boosts well-being (Phys.org, 3 Aug)

Surfing is especially valuable to Australia. My new research shows surf-related expenditure contributes nearly A$3 billion to the Australian economy every year. And the mental health benefits to Australian surfers are in the order of $6 billion a year. …

Possibly realising that all forms of the Uluru Statement lead to:
a) Reparation, wrapped in “reconcilliation” words.
b) Blaming white people for everything, and now starting to realise that other communities who have arrived more recently, like Vietnamese Chinese, Middle Eastern people have no truck whatsoever with this bullshyte blame game
c) Historical reconstuction, like the Stolen Children fraud, they have leaned on this for too long and we all know it’s bullshyte. Other Australians are treated the same way if they don’t look after their children or put them in harm’s way. We’re a civilised society, they are clearly not.
d) More embedding of welcome to country and other such bullshyte, this is becoming very unpopular and to coin a phrose, unwelcome.

Timing, If they don’t get a result quickly, there is less and less of the community interested, and Labor is probably seeing the writing on the wall for all this.

If the aboriginals don’t take up the climate roles, and we all know they won’t let’s be honest about this, then when the first of the money runs out, the scheme will stop.

Assimilation is the only way forward for the aboriginals and their so called culture is pretty well non-existent anyway and what dregs are left are used to con the white man.

This is where Trump told them to go home or if not to do it peacefully, offered the national guard to pelosi, which was refused and where proven agent proveceurs, ie Epps, were present. Jan 6 was a demorat event. But this fuking judge chutkan is worse than merchan or engoron.

This is chutkan’s judgment rejecting Trump’s motion to dismiss the Jan 6 charges. Apart from spurious logic about double standards and no reference to POTUS immunity the fuking judgment does not mention what the facts to substantiate the charges against Trump in reference to Jan 6 are. They can’t even give money away without rooting it up.

Less than a year after Judicial Watch reported that the Taliban has established fake nonprofits to steal millions of dollars in U.S. aid to Afghanistan, a new investigation reveals that the terrorist group has also received hundreds of millions in development assistance from Uncle Sam because the State Department fails to properly vet award recipients. At least $239 million have likely filled the coffers of the extremists running the Islamic republic since the 2021 U.S. military withdraw, according to a report published this month by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR). The money was disbursed by State Department divisions known as Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) and International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) to implement development projects intended to help achieve American foreign policy and national security goals in Afghanistan.

They don’t don’t leave.

But age-related concerns in American politics run deeper than Messrs Biden and Trump. Data compiled by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, a Swiss-based organisation, show that America has the oldest legislators in the rich world. The average age of those who sit in the House of Representatives and the Senate is 59, two decades older than Mr Vance and almost a decade older than the OECD average for elected lawmakers. Mr Biden is 22 years older than the average head of government in the same group.

How quickly the DNC talking points can change.

When Republicans were sounding the alarm that Joe had lost his marbles the Dims rebuttal was that Trump was almost the same age.

The charge levelled at Biden was never that he was old but that he had a condition that often accompanies old age. Not everyone gets it, but Joe had.

The ‘age’ talking point was always a Dimocrat one.

Now that Heels-Up is running the Dims are telling us age is bad. As if it is a great gotcha.

For all their preening themselves over how intellectual they are, they really are not all that bright.

A rare schism between the ALP and ABC has emerged. The latter is extremely irritated that the former doesn’t want to lose the upcoming election:

The federal government does not intend to create a national commission to lead “truth-telling” about First Nations history, departing from its pre-election promise to do so.

A Makarrata commission, named after a Yolngu word for coming together after a struggle, is the “culmination” of the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

Its intended purpose is to oversee both truth-telling and treaty-making between governments and First Nations.

But despite an election night promise to enact the statement in “full”, and budget funding to establish a Makarrata commission, the government’s enthusiasm for a commission had cooled by the time of the failed Voice referendum and its status has been unclear.

Ordinarily, I am loathe to extend an inkling of grace to Albo and co, but in this instance, I think any pre-election promises made that relate to implementing the Voice were voided (in the contract law sense, ie. the promises never existed) by last year’s referendum result. Albo is right to walk away from these promises. They were predicated on the Voice getting up.

A Marrakatta Commission without a constitutional change would simply become ATSIC 2.0 and the coalition would win the next election on a promise to abolish it. I suspect Dutton is slightly disappointed Albo hasn’t dug his heels in over establishing it.

Also, why does such a body need to exist for the purpose of ‘truth-telling’? Why can’t there be perfectly adequate, fulsome and sincere truth-telling in the standard venues and institutions? Of course, there can be and there is.

I suppose the truths being told are frequently not to the liking of the Uluru Statement From The Heart types, which is an obvious problem.

But ultimately, Marrakatta was not going to be a truth-telling forum. It was going to be for truth-making, not truth-telling. Its purpose (aside from negotiating and dividing up a vast swathe of the country’s wealth, ie ‘Treaty’) was to endorse and authenticate the narratives, the philosophies, the histories and the countless languages currently being conjured up in the Indigenous Studies centres on every university campus in the nation.

Thought the same thing. The possible explanation is that the TV media (& of course, the wider media) is VERY selective in what they report & select for TV & the print media. All of the media select according to their political position. I am not saying that she is being unfairly portrayed. But she may not be as incredibly hopeless as we see in the clips.

Lol all this time I’ve been calling it Marrakatta, not Makaratta, in writing and in speech. I only just realised then – I noticed the different spelling in the ABC article and was like ‘pfft they can’t even spell it right’. Then I thought that really doesn’t seem to be the kind of thing the ABC would misspell. So I checked and, nope! It was me getting it wrong all this time. I stand corrected.

I suppose the mistake was due to my familiarity with the name Karrakatta, Perth’s largest cemetary. Which seems terribly apt. Rest In Peace, Marrakatta. I mean, Makaratta. Fine, Rest in Power. All the power you like, whatever. That shit’s dead and buried either way and no matter how you spell it.

Gold shines again at Diggers and Dealers
The Australian Business Network
3 comments

Australia’s lithium mining industry may have had its chance to shine last year, but it is those digging gold out of the ground that are back in favour among resources investors.
As the Diggers & Dealers Conference gets underway in Kalgoorlie this week, investors have once again made gold a key area of focus.
But while producers are in favour, it’s a different story for gold developers, who face a tough journey getting projects into production.
“Exploration is hard,” Westgold Resources managing director Wayne Bramwell said.
“Being a single mine project developer is really hard and it is a massive leap to get to that point where you can become a portfolio company where your risk is somewhat mitigated by having multiple production outlets.”
Only in the past month, gold developer Calidus Resources collapsed after lender Macquarie called in its loans.
Meanwhile, Bellevue Gold with its recent $150m-plus raising proved that gaining investor backing and moving into production can be a bumpy path, surprising investors with its raise and lower-than-hoped forecast production levels.
“Bellevue has done a good job to get into production, but it is proving more difficult than they promised the market and there are growing pains that come with that,” Barrenjoey mining analyst Daniel Morgan said.
The conference gets underway in earnest with 66 corporate presentations from listed miners, exploration companies and also 159 exhibitors from the sector.
Investors made their way to Western Australia ahead of Diggers and Dealers, with Bellevue Gold holding a site visit last Wednesday and Gold Road Resources the previous Thursday, before they made their way to Northern Star’s Super Pit gold mine on the outskirts of Kalgoorlie.

The key element of any deception plan is to make it believable to the target audience.

In that regard, the assassination by a local lad story was obviously a huge success. The Iranian people (and their govt) had no problem believing it because, given their nature, it was at least as likely as not.
