The Republican candidate is ahead of Kamala Harris in Georgia by 3 per cent, where 88 per cent of the vote has been counted, and North Carolina (3 per cent) where 84 per cent of the vote has been counted.
He has taken the lead from Ms Harris in Pennsylvania (3 per cent), where 58 per cent of the vote has been counted. Pennsylvania, the fifth-most populous state in the US, holds 19 crucial electoral votes and stands as the largest of the seven swing states.
Mr Trump is also leading in Michigan (less than 1 per cent) where 24 per cent of the vote had been counted, and Wisconsin (1 per cent) with 5 per cent of votes having been counted.

Here’s my summation:
The cities are full of lousy, woke and resentful lunatics.
The USA has been saved by a handful of remaining sensible decent folks in the countryside.
Telling husband – well the West might just survive. The USA will – but the UK, I think, is doubtful. And many European nations are on the brink.
Oz will almost certainly be LNP – with Dutton facing an enormous job to restore any sort of prosperous nation.

The Kamala Harris event is almost empty now.
If anything, it’s mostly journalists here.
Campaign and party staffers and VIPs left the seated area a short time ago. There were a lot of hugs. I think it’s fair to say they appeared to be in disbelief at the results so far.
The change in atmosphere here happened really quickly. The mood had been excited and hopeful all night.
The music and performances were keeping supporters’ anxiety at bay, but in a matter of minutes things changed when CNN swept through the swing states about two hours ago. It was just too much red.
Of course, there are still many votes to be counted and states to be won, but the thought of a second Trump presidency was impossible for so many people here tonight, and they’ve left knowing a large proportion of the country has supported that idea.
The bleachers have emptied out, staffers and officials gone home, journalists will no doubt be the last ones here as we all hit our deadlines in different time zones.
As I was chatting to some young Democratic supporters on their walk out a short time ago, they said to me: “It’s Hillary all over again.”
