Ok
visiting family the other day, admiring daughters new fridge. There is grandson, U16, watching youtube on smart panel while eating his breakfast.

He is a talented computer animator and wants to begin his own channel to grow his work and talent. He will be 16 by the time the ban comes in, but what about other kids like him? Hey, Morro, leave our kids alone!

There seems to be a mass delusion that there will be lotsa lotsa jerbs in computer animation. Along with the imbecilic idea that kids need to be taught “twenty-first-century skills of digital communication”.
I hope we snap out of it before we wreck the posture and eyesight of a whole generation of kids, who would be much better served studying literature, logic and maths.

Their findings further verified theories about gain-of-function research in China and the lab leak theory; exposed waste, fraud, and abuse of COVID relief funding; revealed how federal and state agencies, including the CDC and NIH, enforced pointless, unscientific recommendations that damaged our country’s health and economy; and highlighted how the government “ignore[d] natural immunity” and mandated the ineffective COVID vaccine while it “failed to properly inform the public about vaccine injuries” and is still failing to provide compensation for the vaccine-injured.

Just f’off Joe

Joe Biden has just announced the U.S. government’s direct involvement in Syria, backing the rebellion, which includes groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda.

He reveals plans to support the creation of a new regime in Syria, all while funneling more taxpayer money to help build it.

“We will help ensure stability in eastern Syria, protecting any of our personnel against any threats.”

“We will engage with all Syrian groups [to] establish a transition away from the Assad regime, toward an independent, sovereign Syria.”

“The U.S. will do whatever we can, including through humanitarian relief.”

The news from Syria is nothing to celebrate about. When still opposition leader back in 2013 Tony Abbott was correct when he said, in regards to events in Syria, that it was….

‘baddies versus baddies’

Abbott was 100% right but for his truthfulness he was, naturally, excoriated and crucified by a hostile MSM, an MSM always ready to smear and ridicule Liberal leaders.

As an aside, imagine if Peter Dutton or Scott Morrison or Tony Abbot had blithely said, in regards to the torching of a Melbourne synagogue, that ‘anti-Semitism had always been around‘. Such a disgraceful comment would rightly be front page news but because it was the grub from Grayndler he gets a free pass from the partisan biased far-left media.

Anyway I digress. I am stunned at how quickly the Assad regime has fallen and I’m curious as to why. I think that since October 7 and the Israeli invasion of Lebanon Iran is stretched militarily. The Iranian theocracy is itself probably shaky. And Russia is preoccupied in Ukraine so Bashar Assad was left isolated. Look, I don’t know but this would never have happened under Bashar’s father, Hafez Assad. I remember how, back in 1982, Hafez Assad dealt with the Muslim Brotherhood uprising in Hama. He was ruthless in supressing the Islamists, and thousands of Islamists were butchered. Perhaps Bashar Assad is simply not cut from the same ruthless cloth his father was cut from but I don’t know. One thing is for sure though, the collapse of the Assad regime is not good news. Whilst ruthless and totalitarian, it was a secular regime that protected religious minorities. The Assad family themselves were from a religious minority, the Alawite sect (related to the Druze). This collapse doesn’t mean that tomorrow Syria will turn into some rose coloured Middle Eastern democracy, with free and fair elections and so on. No, rather what’s happened in Syria is that one baddy, a secular baddy, has been overthrown by another baddy, in this case an Islamist baddy, and here’s the sad truth, sometimes one baddy is not nearly as bad as the other baddy.

  • Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed credit for starting the chain of events that led to the rebel victory.

US launches dozens of airstrikes on ISIS across Syria as conflict in Middle East spirals (8 Dec)

ISIS targets in Syria have been hit with a barrage of US airstrikes in an attempt to wipe the terror group from the earth.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) posted on X this evening that “over 75 targets” were struck in the centre of the country, “using multiple US Air Force assets, including B-52s, F-15s, and A-10s”.

“Battle damage assessments are underway, and there are no indications of civilian casualties”, the statement said.

The thing is, Syrians themselves, from the military on down, didn’t seem to oppose the rebels this time around. They had had enough of the Assad regime. The Syrian civil war has lasted around 14 years, and during all this time, Assad was incapable of winning over the population. His only strategy was brutality, even resorting to using poison gas against his own people. And importantly, Iran received a decent kicking in the right place.

This isn’t to say, the rebel groups will be any better, but they also won’t be worse than Assad.

It’s a good example of a Fibonacci sequence in art. The centre of the spiral is the mark’s hand, the tail is the crook’s hidden cards.

Caravaggio used the same models repeatedly, always fun to spot them.

Looks like Assad did make it to Moscow.

Syria’s Assad is in Moscow after deal on military bases, says Russian state media (Reuters, 9 Dec)

Syria’s former President Bashar al-Assad is in Moscow with his family after Russia granted them asylum on humanitarian grounds, a Kremlin source told Russian news agencies on Sunday, and a deal has been done to ensure the safety of Russian military bases.

Given that Russian jets were bombing the rebels only yesterday it’s quick work to do a deal to retain the airbase and naval base today. I suppose that’s the Middle East for you, groups swap sides at a drop of a hat.

I’ve just caught up with the New York Post article put up last night by Indolent. It was a pretty fair piece but in the midst of it was this;

He was gracious and talkative, but I came away convinced his chances of a comeback were small.

His achievements were real, but his tenure was exhausting and Dems had seized on the awful events of Jan. 6 to make sure he never got back to the Oval Office.

My take on Jan 6, has the Dems central to causing the “awful” events in the first place. If is true, I wonder how long it might be before this is more broadly recognized or will it remain hidden. Perhaps the implications are just too “awful” to contemplate?

I’ll give you 250 grams of chicpeas for a mandarin.

What’s old is new again.

International bank sanctions have pushed Russian businesses to reinvent themselves. Bartering, a practice dating back to the Neolithic era and employed during past economic crises, has emerged as an alternative for the country’s firms as they try to circumvent sanctions imposed by the West over the invasion of Ukraine. The Kremlin, which has failed in its attempt to replace imports with its “made in Russia” project, has even produced a guide for these rudimentary transactions.

One of the country’s largest agricultural companies, Astarta Agrotrading, signed two important agreements with Pakistan in October. “We will exchange chickpeas for rice with one company and chickpeas for mandarins with another,” the owner of the holding, Stanislav Neveinitsyn, told Russian news agency Interfax.

I saw a post on ‘X’ where some person listed all the Presidents that had not overthrown Assad, only to triumphantly point out that Assad was gone under Biden – the suggestion being that was a masterstroke – a success where everyone else had failed.

Bidens eyes were firmly fixed on Ukraine – they have never left it. One side effect of his fanning the war between the Pute and Zelinsky is that Russia does not have the resources to spare to assist Assad. The rebels seized the opportunity and either have, or are on the verge of, taking Damascus.

So something happened while Bidens scant wits were elsewhere and this is being held up as testament to his unrivalled abilities.

Maybe we should encourage this, tell him that he was brilliant, masterful in ignoring Syria all together and that he should adorned with the laurel wreath of victory and a bucket of chocolate chocolate chip.

If we can convince that he has achieved a legacy that will have his name sung in praise for the rest of eternity, he might not be so fired up about a legacy in Ukraine and stop egging the war on.

Did Trump’s win mark the end of identity politics? (with Sam Harris) | Stay Tuned with Preet

On a podcast with Trump hating attorney Preet Bharara (SDNY), atheist philosopher and for “New Atheism” horseman Sam Harris goes scorched earth against identity politics as practiced by the Democrats:

Key Points that Harris makes in this interview:

1. Identity politics should be dead now with Trump’s election

2. Democrats championed fake racism because there was not enough real racism in society

3. The Southern Poverty Law Center is a corrupt, indoctrinated organization that invents racism everywhere and no one should take it seriously any more

4. All pandering to imagined victim groups has backfired

5. Identity politics is a moral failure

Lets just leave them to sort out their differences in the time honoured way – by seeing who stacks the biggest pile of skulls as their throne.

The rebels who have swept through Syria are led by Islamist alliance Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, or HTS, along with an umbrella group of Turkish-backed Syrian militias called the Syrian National Army.
Both have been entrenched in the north-west. They launched the shock offensive on 27 November with gunmen capturing Aleppo, Syria’s largest city, and the central city of Hama, the fourth largest.

The founder of HTS, Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, was once a participant in the Iraqi insurgency against the US as a member of the group that eventually became Islamic State.

In its former incarnation as Jabhat al-Nusra or the Al-Nusra front, HTS later declared allegiance to al-Qaida. It eventually publicly broke those ties in 2016 and rebranded as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, or Organization for the Liberation of the Levant.

Peter Dutton makes anti-Semitism election pitch, vows to create a taskforce to deport bigotsEllen RansleyThe Nightly
Mon, 9 December 2024 6:20AM

Comments

Peter Dutton has vowed to create a dedicated anti-Semitism taskforce and deport anti-Semitic migrants, as the political fallout from Friday’s arson attack at a Melbourne synagogue continues.
The Australian Federal Police and other security agencies will meet with Victoria Police on Monday to decide whether or not to label the early morning firebombing of the Assad Islam synagogue in Ripponlea, in the city’s southeast, as terrorism.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Sunday said he personally believes the act was terrorism, while Attorney General Mark Dreyfus on Monday was more reluctant to do so, saying that was a matter for police.
“I’m the Minister for the Australian Federal Police, Michael. I think it’s always important that we let police do their work,” Mr Dreyfus said.
But the Coalition say the meeting should have happened sooner, and accused the Prime Minister of “dragging his feet” on declaring the attack terrorism.
The Opposition Leader said the Prime Minister had been weak on anti-Semitism since October 7, 2023, which had led to such a violent attack. He vowed to do better by the Jewish community if the Coalition won the next election.

Nope. There’s pretty strong evidence sarin gas was used in Syria. But also, poison gas was found in Iraq. I don’t understand the denial, particularly regarding Iraq as the Saddam regime used poison gas unsparingly against the Iranians during that war.

Ah yes, JC. I once came across a recording of a talk Suleimani gave to his despondent troops (in underground location) during the Iraq/Iran war after they had been hit with poison gas by the Iraqis. Of course, it was in Farsi, but his passion and the faces of those soldiers was memorable. The role of the young Suleimani in that war was why he had such an amazing following throughout his life.

BTW husband and I flew to Europe at the beginning of that war. Being on the usual route at that time we flew over the Gulf. It was night but husband, as usual, had his window shade down. We had noticed some sort of explosions below and suddenly a fighter jet appeared beside our plane. Husband drew the attention of the hostie & she ordered him to put the shade down!

But I recall that when we returned home from the holiday QANTAS sensibly flew by a different route home. In fact, I recall we landed (I guess for fuel) at Damascus. It was a god-awful landing and the plane bounced hugely on landing, for which the pilot apologised. He said they had few lights on the runway! We had reason to recall this incident decades later when the tragic shooting down of the Malaysian aircraft over Ukraine occurred. At least QANTAS changed their route all those years ago when the Iran/Iraq war began.

From The Oz….

Victoria now ‘epicentre’ of anti-Semitism due to Labor’s failure to enforce law: Jewish leader

The failure of the Victorian government to enforce the law is why Australia is dealing with a national anti-Semitism crisis and now a domestic terrorist attack on a synagogue, a leading Jewish figure has said.

Jewish human rights campaigner and former lawyer Menachem Vorchheimer has questioned why pro-Palestinian protesters are not being charged under Section 21 of Summary Offences Act when organising rallies outside places of worship.

“It is already an offence in Victoria under section 21 of Summary Offences Act to disturb religious places of worship, including synagogues, churches and mosques,” Mr Vorchheimer told The Australian.

On Saturday, Mr Vorchheimer pressed Jacinta Allan at the Adass Israel synagogue on whether she had lost control, which led her to abruptly end the press conference.

“Victoria Police should have used the Summary Offences Act to charge those who caused the central synagogue in Melbourne to be evacuated during Friday night prayers after the violent mob descended on Caulfield in November 2023.”

“The failure of the Allan Labor government to (enforce) the law is why Australia is dealing with a national crisis and now sadly a domestic terrorist attack on a synagogue. Victoria is the epicentre of the national anti-Semitism crisis because the Allan government has repeatedly failed to enforce the law.”

Mr Vorchheimer is correct, and it is no different here in NSW. We don’t need new laws, we need existing laws enforced.

How the West BETRAYED its YOUNG MEN

Black Pigeon Speaks

In the video, “How the West BETRAYED its YOUNG MEN,” Black Pigeon Speaks discusses the failures of contemporary Western nations, particularly in the context of nationalism vs. globalism. He critiques political leadership, especially under Donald Trump, and the impacts of globalization and cultural shifts on young men. The host argues that younger generations are being deprived of opportunities for stability, such as finding partners, starting families, or owning homes. He suggests that the concepts of national identity and pride have eroded, leaving young men without investment in their nations, leading to societal decay and a concerning recruitment crisis for military forces. **Key Points:** 1. **Political Landscape:** – Donald Trump aims to expel illegal migrants. – Comparison to Canada’s failed immigration policies under Trudeau. – Both countries are experiencing mismanagement of citizen concerns. 2. **Economic Issues:** – Trump seeks to address inflated interest rates and reform bureaucracy. – Mention of Robert Kennedy Jr.’s role against the FDA and the implications for health products. 3. **Historical Context of National Identity:** – Nationalism, as a modern concept, is only a few centuries old. – Examples of historical rulers disconnected from governed populations. – Nationalism emerged due to economic ties and military strength. 4. **Shift from Nationalism to Globalism:** – Modern elites are promoting globalism, undermining national pride. – This shift has redirected prosperity towards elites, disenfranchising young people. – Elites seek to erase old customs in favor of new globalist morals. 5. **Impact on Young Men:** – Young men face challenges in forming families and achieving economic stability. – There’s a lack of connection to their nations and the sense of identity. – The current conflicts are framed as serving elite interests, not national pride. 6. **Military Recruitment Crisis:** – Young men are increasingly disillusioned about fighting for corporate interests. – There’s a perceived lack of worth in military service as it relates to national pride. – Call for a reinvigoration of national identity to encourage participation and investment in the nation. 7. **Conclusion:** – Essential to restore the concept of the nation for societal renewal. – Warning that without changes, Western nations may face internal destruction.

How Islamists Influence & Infiltrate the British Government. Connor Tomlinson

In a recent discussion, Connor Tomlinson elaborates on a report he wrote about the infiltration and influence of Islamists in the British government, specifically highlighting the activities of a little-known unit called the Research, Information and Communications Unit (RICU), or Raichu. This unit, established under the Home Office, has been accused of executing psychological operations to manipulate public perception and distance the Muslim community from acts of terrorism. Tomlinson explains how the government has used controlled narratives and coordinated public relations strategies following terror incidents to manage the narrative. He also discusses the integration of the Prevent strategy as part of Raichu’s efforts, aiming to reshape perceptions of extremism, particularly concerning Islamic vs. far-right threats. The discussion touches on various instances of manipulation within the media and political parties, advocating for reform and accountability within government agencies. — **Key Points:** 1. **Introduction to Raichu:** – Raichu is described as a psychological operations division within the Home Office, handling propaganda and public perception. – Established in 2007 and reformed in 2011 under the Cameron government, its purpose aligns with controlling public sentiment around terrorism, especially regarding Islam. 2. **Manipulation of Public Perception:** – Examples provided include controlled responses to terror attacks, such as the 2014 beheading of a British aid worker by ISIS, where pre-prepared media content was utilized to project a positive image of the Muslim community. – Reported practices include staging public relations campaigns immediately following terrorist attacks to deflect criticism towards the government’s immigration policies. 3. **Case Studies of Evidence:** – The Manchester Arena attack illustrated the government’s narrative control, promoting messages of unity and anti-hate instead of addressing the failures of policies that allowed the attack. – Recent incidents, like the Southport protests, raised questions about the coordination of messages in the media and the use of pre-prepared materials that portray a unified anti-racist stance. 4. **Public Awareness:** – Tomlinson posits that public awareness of government manipulation has grown, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing issues like grooming gangs, which have been mishandled by authorities. 5. **Raichu and Prevent:** – Raichu was positioned as responsible for the Prevent strategy, aiming to combat extremism but accused of disproportionately targeting far-right narratives while neglecting Islamic extremism. 6. **Critique of Political Parties:** – Both the Conservative and Labour parties are criticized for their handling of the situation, with specific government figures, like Michael Gove, being called into question for their approach. – The overarching claim is that there’s a pervasive nepotism and ideological alignment within government agencies that compromise their effectiveness. 7. **Calls for Reform:** – Tomlinson advocates for disbanding Raichu and overhauling Prevent, suggesting a need for greater transparency and accountability in government operations relating to national security. – A reform of the Charities Act to disengage funding from groups that promote political agendas and a review of civil service operations are recommended. 8. **Personal Commitment:** – Tomlinson expresses his commitment to continuing investigations and journalism rather than entering politics but recognizes the lack of promising political figures emerging who are willing to challenge the status quo. In conclusion, the discussion raises significant concerns regarding the intertwining of government operations, media narratives, and public perception, urging for an urgent reevaluation of strategies employed by the British government in relation to issues of terrorism and community relations.

Ain’t only Chuck Norris that be tough. His mum too.

Chuck Norris’s mother passes away at 103 (7 Dec)

Norris announced the passing of Wilma on his Instagram account on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024.

This is how Norris, in the post, described his mother’s passing.

He wrote, “Wednesday morning, my brother Aaron and I’s wonderful mother went home to be with Jesus.”

Norris went on to describe his mother, writing:

Our mom was a woman of unwavering faith, a beacon of light in our lives, and her love reflected God’s grace. Growing up, her laughter filled our home with joy, and her hugs provided a sense of safety that we will forever cherish. She had a remarkable way of making everyone feel special, often putting the needs of others before her own. From my earliest memories, she taught me the importance of kindness and compassion. I am so thankful for the countless lessons she shared, the prayers she lifted for us, and the way she embodied the love of Christ every day.

Norris concluded his message by writing, “We love you, Mom. Until we meet again.”

Vale. Good innings lady, and thanks that you bore a fine son.

Turkey’s interest here likely involve opening the door to them taking on the Kurds (SDP) in the north east of Syria, establishing a client state with HTS, territorial acquisition, and the like. It may be the case that Turkey acted on its own initiative here, and that US/ Israel were caught on the hop, or something in between. Hard to tell only a day after.

Dover, Trump’s best move would be to help the Kurds create their own independent state in the remains of Syria. As a bargaining chip there is still Turkey’s membership of NATO that Erdogan has abused almost since the beginning of his tenure.

It wouldn’t hurt to take the Kurdish part of Iraq and add it the new Kurdistan. Kurds deserve their own country after what has been done to them.

Is there such a creature as a covert narcissist? I have only known the full blown ones. One in my family, and the other in my social circle. Creatures of their background, I believe. Generally formed in their childhood. Experienced expert in this disorder, Dr. Marion F. Solomon, describes it thus:

“Choices made at the early stages in learning how to survive and get along in the world become decisions that are replayed endlessly through life”.

This describes “my” narcissists perfectly. You have my sympathy, Min. They can be diabolic to all in their circle, though, as Solomon suggests, they have learned to survive by essentially disregarding the needs of others.

I haven’t heard of covert narcissists but due to an encounter with an individual some months ago I came across “communal narcissists”. They are people pleasers and have very good social skills but they only care about themselves and their behavior is solely directed towards that end. Typically they leave a trail of psychological destruction behind them.

Very hard to perceive because their narcissism is well concealed. Only time reveals their true motivations.

BTW Min. I really don’t believe that narcissism is genetically based and, quite frankly, have not read that in any of the literature that I read years ago on the subject. Of course, different personalities respond to adversities in different ways. If it was genetically based, you would see a repetition of this phenomenon in families. I haven’t observed this either in personal experience of in the literature.

Never heard of a “communal narcissist”. But one of my narcissists was a salesman, so maybe that qualifies. Their lies soon reveal their inner nature. Lies are what build the edifice of their image of themselves. And they are often quite blatant and easily discovered. It matters not to the narcissist. They just move on.

So I don’t truly understand your claim that it is “well concealed”. I think that most normal people find it hard to actually believe that their lies are planned. Or even, often, that they ARE lying. At the end of the day, victims of narcissists are deeply shocked that they can have been so deceived.

Tennis before terror: Anthony Albanese plays at Cottesloe as Jewish Australians reel from Melbourne synagogue attack
Anthony Albanese played tennis at one of Perth’s most storied clubs on Saturday, as the Jewish community was reeling from the firebombing of a Melbourne synagogue the day before.

Extraordinary pictures from a local player at Cottesloe Tennis Club show the Prime Minister in tennis whites and shorts playing in the sun.

The game occurred the same weekend that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was blaming Labor and the Albanese government for a wave of anti-Semitism in Australia.

It was also that same day that former treasurer Josh Frydenberg and ex-Labor senator Nova Peris put up a united front against anti-Jewish hate outside the burned place of worship.

Perth local Elizabeth Pell posed with Mr Albanese and posted to social media: “Not someone you meet everyday!”.

Mr Albanese was with ex-South Australian premier Jay Weatherill, who now works for charity the Minderoo Foundation.

“We had two sets of tennis and afternoon tea and (he was) very sociable. He had a pleasant time with some of our members,” Mr Wilde said.

“He had all his own equipment. He came all ready and dressed to go … I played against him twice.”

What a loathsome hypocrite.

Dover, forgive me for saying this, but wasn’t it just about two weeks ago that you were telling us Assad was so securely ensconced in his position as president (read: dictator for life)? You even posted a picture of chinless in the UAE!. And now, two weeks later, the guy’s in permanent hibernation, holed up in Moscow. Quite the plot twist, wouldn’t you say?

The rebel scene in Syria was incredibly complex, with groups constantly forming alliances and then breaking them—joining and “un-joining” other factions. U.S. support primarily went to the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and the Kurds, particularly the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). That said, it’s true that some elements of the FSA eventually aligned with or were absorbed by Al-Qaeda-affiliated groups like Jabhat al-Nusra. I suppose you could use this as an excuse to claim the U.S. was indirectly supporting AQ, but that’s more a case of unintended consequences than deliberate policy.
We’ve been over this before, and you basically conceded this was true. But let’s be clear: the U.S. played a very minor role in Syria overall. While it had moments of involvement—arming the FSA, supporting the Kurds, and bombing ISIS—it stayed cautious, especially compared to the far more significant interventions by Russia, Iran, and Turkey.

Has anyone had any experience with covert narcissists.?

Strikes me as a contradiction in terms.
The essence of a narcissistic type is the belief that they are the smartest, wittiest, funniest and generally most interesting person in this – or in fact, any – room.
Why would they hide these considerable talents from others?
Of course, you can be fooled at first, because they often feign empathy or interest in others as a means of manipulating people to achieve their ends.
Trumble is a prime example of this behaviour.

Today walked along Udine’s “Tangenziale”, the ring road that surrounds the old centre.
Although it was a cold, grey, drizzly winter day, it was abvious that the local economy is on the decline. Lots of boarded-up shop fronts. Graffiti, though not as pervasive as near the train station, were everywhere, but not on the various historic monuments.
Evidence of the deep respect the locals have for their military history. This is, after all, the region that was THE boundary of Italy and the Austro-Hungaric Empire in WW1, and next to the Anschluss-ed Austria in WW2.
Early on the walk, one meets the Tempio Ossario (Ossuary). A really emotional experience.
This massive, domed church in the Romanesque style, with an entrance guarded by massive, Fascist-style statues, was completed in the 1920s, to remember and interr the remains of the locals sons fallen during WW1. Thousands of stacked graves, identified by engraved names and rank, as well as a common repository for the “Soldato Ignoto” (Uknown Soldier). Details and hundreds of photographs inform of the struggle which, after the defeat at Caporetto in 1917, also resulted in some 20,000 local civilians dying of starvation during the brief German occupation.
We simply have ZERO idea of the extent of the privations faced by the average civilian during a war. This temple, like many others in Italy, was aimed at ensuring that such evils are not forgotten.
The deepest respect for this type of ultimate sacrifice can be seen throughout Udine. Dozens of lesser monuments and street/piazza names can be found throughout the city and its close environs. More importantly, I have yet to see any evidence of damage or graffiti on any of these memorials.
It seems that, in Udine at least, woke marxism hasn’t reached the same level of penetrance and evil that it has in the Anglosphere.
May this long continue.

got told today in all seriousness some stunning climate gems by a Faith-based Engineer:

1: LCOE says ruinables is cheapest

so, LCOE = Present Value of Lifetime Cost /Present Value of Lifetime Energy

a. present values of future energy have historically been seriously underestimated

b. to get equivalent 24/7 energy (which is impossible because night follows day) you need 3 or 4 times the nameplate capacity

c. LCOE is a crock of shit because even on a NEM-wide basis, ruinable’s capacity factor can never approach 100%

d. unlike coal or nuclear

2: too much coal makes the grid unreliable

my response was, well just turn some off … but what will you sync frequency with?

3: You can have artificial inertia now

ah huh … how many Musky batteries or pumped hydros will that take?

so, more ancillary infrastructure is required that doesn’t appear in your LCOE calcs

4: anyway, we cant turn it off until the hydro is working

What? The Big Bucket? … Snowy 2 ?

Where’s Florence now mate?

also isn’t it convenient that cost overruns don’t appear in LCOE calcs

5: Pumped hydro has an efficiency of 94% … end to end

what? … not a chance

just pumping it uphill the motor alone is less than 90% efficient
on the way uphill there’s also the pump itself and the pressure and pipe losses

and besides the energy is coming from remote and disparate sources … you’ll need to factor in some transmission losses

same on the way back down. so for energy going out, where’s it going and what are the losses

6: You’re wrong

what about the extra transmission lines and interconnectors … are they in the your LCOE?

7: climate shaman theatrically rolls-eyes for the audience

has Albo had the Laws of Thermodynamics repealed ?

your vision of the future … is it all unicorns and rainbows?

FSA was the fig leaf and the intelligence services knew it. AQ were ‘our guys’ in Syria.

You know this because you were heading the National Security Council?

LOL. It’s ‘misdirection’ to point out that the US also supported the SDP which denied Syria access to its own resources in the north east? Sure. BTW, here is a senior Pentagon official explaining their ‘very minor role’ in strangling Syria.

Of course, it’s misdirection and outright dissembling. The agricultural land and oil fields are in Kurdish territory, and the U.S. did the right thing by ensuring these assets were held for the betterment of the Kurds, who have been systematically oppressed by nearly everyone else in the region. The real issue here is crystal clear: these resources weren’t handed over to Russia’s pet dictator, Assad. Cue the predictable outrage—Russia, Russia, Russia.

And another thing—going back to the earlier comment: didn’t you post a picture of Assad, a few weeks ago, suggesting everything must have been hunky-dory back home if he was off gallivanting abroad? If it wasn’t the UAE, then it was Moscow, as you claimed.

Oh yeah, the territory is part of Syria – ie. it all belongs to the Assad regime.

Let’s take a look back to see what sparked the civil war.

“The first uprising in Syria that marked the beginning of the Syrian Civil War occurred in March 2011. It was part of the broader Arab Spring, a wave of pro-democracy protests across the Middle East. The initial events unfolded in the southern city of Daraa, when a group of teenagers was arrested and tortured by Syrian security forces for spray-painting anti-government slogans, such as “The people want the fall of the regime.”
This sparked outrage among locals, leading to protests demanding the release of the teenagers, along with calls for political reform, greater freedom, and an end to corruption. The government of Bashar al-Assad responded with violent crackdowns, including arrests, beatings, and shootings of demonstrators. This brutality fueled anger and escalated protests, which soon spread across the country.
The deeper causes of the uprising included:

Decades of authoritarian rule: The Assad family had ruled Syria since 1970, with power centralized in the hands of a corrupt elite.Economic grievances: High unemployment, poverty, and inequality—exacerbated by a severe drought between 2006 and 2010—left many Syrians struggling.Sectarian tensions: Syria’s Sunni majority felt marginalized under the rule of the Alawite minority, to which Assad belongs. As the regime intensified its crackdown, the protests evolved into an armed rebellion, with defectors from the Syrian military and civilians forming the Free Syrian Army. By late 2011, the conflict escalated into a full-blown civil war, drawing in regional and international powers, transforming Syria into a devastating battleground.”

And then fast forward to 2013

“The major spark in 2013 that intensified the Syrian Civil War and drew global attention was the Ghouta chemical attack on August 21, 2013. This attack involved the use of sarin gas in rebel-held areas near Damascus, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of civilians, including many women and children.
The attack was widely attributed to the Assad regime, although the Syrian government denied responsibility, blaming rebel groups instead. The horrific images and videos of victims provoked international outrage, raising the stakes of the conflict.
This incident nearly led to direct Western military intervention. U.S. President Barack Obama had previously drawn a “red line,” stating that the use of chemical weapons would prompt a strong response. However, instead of launching military strikes, the U.S. and Russia brokered a deal for Syria to dismantle its chemical weapons stockpile under international supervision.
Despite this agreement, reports of chemical weapon use continued in the following years, highlighting the worsening humanitarian crisis and the inability of global powers to resolve the conflict.”

The territory is literally part of Syria. Apparently, stating that denying the most productive areas of Syria to the Syrian government effectively neutered any chance of recovery now constitutes ‘outright dissembling’.

Once you start killing your own people and torturing them, any legitimate claims to sovereignty are out the window. If Assad had these assets he would have used the money to cause more death and destruction. Furthermore, he wasn’t inhibited asking for resources from Iran and Russia.

Raygun accused of cultural appropriation after claiming ownership of kangaroo dance in legal threat against Sydney comedian (Sky News, 9 Dec)

Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn has been accused of cultural appropriation for claiming ownership of the “kangaroo dance” after the Olympian’s legal team shutdown a musical about the breaker.

Stephanie Broadbridge announced on Saturday her trial show for Raygun: The Musical had been cancelled just hours before it was due to begin after the 37-year-old’s lawyers contacted the venue to threaten legal action.

In a video shared to Instagram, Broadbridge said Raygun’s lawyers trademarked her poster and advised the comedian she was not allowed to do the kangaroo dance because the viral Olympian “owns” it. …

“Is (Raygun) going to sue every Indigenous person in Australia that does that dance?” one social media user asked.

Wouldn’t it be funny if our Aboriginal brothers and sisters were to commence legal proceedings for stealing the roo dance and bringing culture into disrepute,” another said.

A third accused the Olympian of cultural appropriation over the use of the dance move.

She is claiming intellectual property on a ‘kangaroo dance’ which is very similar to that of many indigenous people’s, which goes back thousands and thousands of years,” they said.

Popcorn please! We have the notorious and inept Raygun pitted against the pure and virtuous First Nations over a weird hopping breakdance routine that was so bad that a thousand memes have been produced from it.

Did someone mention narcissistic?

Inside my bizarre 10-hour prison getaway with Salim Mehajer: Notorious criminal’s diva demands, surprising trait – and the moment he lost his cool

Salim Mehajer’s latest attempt to appeal his convictions for domestic violence and fraud offenses has been rejected on the grounds that the evidence he claims could prove his innocence was “highly speculative”.

Additionally, his bail application was rejected after the New South Wales Court of Criminal Appeal determined that he had sufficient resources and facilities at his disposal in prison.

As Mehajer’s bid for freedom fails, Daily Mail Australia journalist Steve Jackson recounts his surreal encounter with the disgraced property developer when he was last released from prison in 2019…

Salim Mehajer and I are speeding down the Snowy Mountains Highway in a rented black Mercedes-Benz, pursued by Australia’s fiercest paparazzo.

The convicted conman looks in the rearview mirror, agitated.

But it soon becomes clear that he couldn’t care less about the stubborn photographer following us.

‘Did you think I looked fat?’ He demands.

‘That?’

‘When I came out of prison, did you think I looked fat? Because I’m not.

He looks at himself in the mirror again and sighs.

‘Actually, can you stop?’ he says. “I want to see the photos again.”

It’s May 21, 2019, and the disgraced former deputy mayor of Auburn has just walked free from Cooma Correctional Centre, about an hour south of Canberra, after serving 11 months behind bars for election fraud.

Along with a 60 Minutes crew, I just picked him up outside the medium-security prison with plans to take him back to Sydney along a complicated set of back roads designed to give way to rival media (and paparazzi). .

We’ve been discussing the possibility of interviewing Mehajer on 60 Minutes with her attorney Zali Burrows for weeks, and while no deal has been reached, she believes the road trip could provide the perfect opportunity to discuss details.

But as I soon realize, Salim is not a detail-oriented type of person, unless it relates to his appearance and celebrity aspirations.

The image is the most important thing in your world.

For Mehajer, getting out of prison isn’t a walk of shame, it’s a red carpet moment with him as the star attraction.

Burrows has even brought a new designer suit for Mehajer to be photographed as he struts toward our waiting van, which, we’re told, must be a luxury model appropriately befitting his “prestigious” public profile.

In the end, the new suit proves too tight and he is forced to suffer the ignominy of walking free in the same blue suit in which he was arrested.

Unfortunately, it’s also about to burst and is so tight that he had a hard time getting the fly all the way up.

But there are no such size issues with Mehajer’s new model. Louis Vuitton tie and black sunglasses, as he confidently leaves prison at 8:45 in the morning with a folder in his hand and the air of a busy and important man.

“You missed your chance. I actually had something to say, but I’ll have to wait until next time,” he tells the respectable-sized media group that has gathered at the prison for his release before climbing into our van.

Mehajer told the press group gathered outside the prison that they had missed the opportunity to interview him before we drove him back to Sydney along a network of back roads.

Mehajer told the press group gathered outside the prison that they had missed the opportunity to interview him before we drove him back to Sydney along a network of back roads.

Under his strict parole conditions, Mehajer is prohibited from using a mobile phone or accessing social media, but nothing will stop him from basking in the glow of this glorious moment.

Can I scroll through news websites on my phone and hold it up so he can see all the coverage?

No problem, Salim.

It turns out that Daily Mail Australia is the first site to report on Mehajer’s release.

But he doesn’t like what he sees: the Mail has noticed that his suit doesn’t fit well and comments on how tight it is.

The images are particularly confronting for him.

Can I urgently contact someone at Daily Mail Australia and explain that it’s not because he’s fat, but because he’s not? It’s because he has been working out in the prison gym during his long incarceration.

No problem, Salim.

I soon realize that we are also one of their designer’s accessories.

He wants to be seen as an interesting, important man with something to say, and being cast by a big-budget TV team is the ultimate accessory.

But he has little interest in our plan to stay out of the public eye and secrete him back to Sydney via a road trip that would eventually take 10 grueling hours.

Instead, he asks if we can make repeated stops, ostensibly so he can check the latest headlines on my phone, but also so he can “unknowingly” pose for the following paparazzi.

No problem, Salim.

The former deputy mayor was continually photographed as we made numerous stops on the trip, including a visit to Bateman’s Bay Soldiers Club for lunch.

The former deputy mayor was continually photographed as we made numerous stops on the trip, including a visit to Bateman’s Bay Soldiers Club for lunch.

When it comes to talking about the 60 Minutes interview, you’re less worried about what they’ll ask you than what you’ll look like when they ask you.

What angles would we be filming it from? What would the lighting be like? Should you get Botox? I thought his left or right side would flatter him more?

When serious (and often confrontational) accusations are raised against him, he is less talkative.

Election fraud, assaulting a taxi driver outside the Star casino, making sexual abuse and death threats, failed business deals, unpaid debts, intimidating the father of a survivor of the Lindt Café siege, a restrained violence order issued by his ex-wife Aysha Learmonth.

Image-obsessed Mehajer knows that none of this is a good look.

In the end, he would be quietly sentenced to more than seven years in prison in May 2023 after being found guilty. a series of crimes, including internal violence and fraudulent use of documents.

The 38-year-old this month failed in his bid to be released on bail as he fights to overturn those convictions in the New South Wales Court of Criminal Appeal.

However, in 2019, the then-newly released Mehajer is keen to steer the conversation about the road trip away from criminal proceedings and toward his proceedings with criminals.

He wants to explain how highly appreciated he is behind bars.

How all the other inmates had initially been unsympathetic to him, only for him to become the most popular prisoner there, even among the guards.

A true prince among thieves.

She’s also happy to talk about her meteoric rise to prominence after her lavish 2015 wedding to Learmonth (complete with a fighter jet, four helicopters, a fleet of sports cars and a seaplane) that closed streets in western Sydney, outrage to their neighbors.

Do you think the furious public reaction to your over-the-top ceremony proved that one of the biggest crimes you can commit in Australia is showing off your opulent wealth?

A Cheshire cat smile.

“Did you think he looked opulent?” ask.

Despite the rampant narcissism, there is something disarming and strangely charming about Mehajer.

He’s also quite funny at times, although even his jokes are usually limited to his favorite topic of conversation: himself.

When discussing possible story titles for his grand tale, I suggest that ‘The Real Salim Shady’ might be an appropriate choice.

He smiles.

“As long as it’s not Fatboy Salim,” he laughs.

But there’s another, darker side to Mehajer simmering just beneath the surface.

Then comes the moment when it finally explodes.

The convicted fraudster was more concerned about his ill-fitting suit than the serious accusations leveled against him during the day-long trip.

The convicted fraudster was more concerned about his ill-fitting suit than the serious accusations leveled against him during the day-long trip.

It happens during one of our many stops to check out the latest Mehajer headlines.

Someone from 60 Minutes told the Sydney Morning Herald that they approached us with the idea of ??doing a sit-down interview.

He is outraged.

“No, no, no, you have to call them immediately and let them know that 60 Minutes reached out to me,” he demands.

I haven’t even asked for anything, I don’t need to ask journalists to interview me.

The calls are made. History changed.

Mehajer’s anger is contained, although not completely calmed.

However, he suggests he might forgive the incident if we can get him to attend the TV Week Logie Awards.

Mehajer is quite excited about the idea of ??walking a royal red carpet alongside real, authentic Australian celebrities.

In the end, that doesn’t happen… and neither does 60 Minutes say everything.

Mehajer decides that a contentious interview might not be best for her image after all.

No problem, Salim.

‘Divides people unnecessarily’: Peter Dutton would not stand in front of Indigenous flags as prime ministerSarah Ison
39 minutes ago

Peter Dutton has declared he would never address the nation with both the Australian and Indigenous flags behind him at press conferences should he become prime minister, arguing that the practice “divides people unnecessarily”.
The Opposition Leader has been choosing not to have the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander flags behind him during public appearances and confirmed on Monday night it was a practice he would seek to continue in top office.
“I’m very strongly of the belief that we are a country united under one flag and if we’re asking people to identify with different flags, no other country does that, and we are dividing our country unnecessarily,” he told Sky News.
“We should have respect for the Indigenous flag and the Torres Strait Islander flag, but they are not our national flags.”
Mr Dutton said Anthony Albanese wanted “to be all things to all people” across a number of issues.
“The fact is that we should stand up for who we are, for our values, what we believe in,” he said. “We are united as a country when we gather under one flag, which is what we should do on Australia Day.”

Anti-Male Sexual Harassment Laws | Amy Gallagher

Summary The video discusses the implications of the new Worker Protection Act in the UK, which mandates that employers assess and prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. The presenter, Amy Gallagher, critiques the law for fostering a culture of mistrust towards men, suggesting it places undue burdens on employers and creates a hostile environment for male employees. Gallagher raises concerns about the vagueness of sexual harassment definitions and the potential for false accusations, as well as how the law could impact workplace dynamics and relationships. ### Key Points by Section 1. **Introduction of the Worker Protection Act**: – New law starting October 2024 requires risk assessments for preventing sexual harassment. – Employers have a positive duty to prevent harassment regardless of incidents. 2. **Implementation Challenges**: – Questions raised about how employers should prevent harassment (e.g., signage, public awareness). – Definition of sexual harassment is vague and could be misinterpreted. 3. **Target Population**: – The law does not explicitly target men, but most perpetrators of serious sexual crimes are men, leading to perceived bias. – Concerns about the lack of equivalent efforts for men who are wrongfully accused. 4. **Employer Dilemmas**: – Employers face challenges balancing compliance with discrimination laws. – Potential solutions (e.g., separating sexes in the workplace) could lead to discrimination claims. 5. **Monitoring Behavior**: – The law encourages monitoring of all behavior to prevent allegations, leading to a possibly oppressive workplace environment. – Discussion on the implications for workplace relationships and what constitutes a “workspace.” 6. **Broader Impacts**: – The constant scrutiny could deter traditional workplace dating and lead to online relationships. – Increased legal claims could benefit a new legal industry focused on workplace harassment. 7. **Societal Concerns**: – Gallagher expresses fears of the long-term effects on male ambition and societal dynamics. – Cites the phrase, “weak men create hard times,” suggesting potential societal decline as a result of these changes. Overall, the video expresses a critical view of the new law and how it could influence workplace culture and gender relations in the future.

The territory is literally part of Syria.

Combined with:

Oh OK, same applies to Ukraine in Donbass.

A couple more adds

No other country is claiming the Kurdish region as their own through annexation.
There hasn’t been systemic slaughter in Dumbarse like there has been with the Kurds, which warranted protection. In fact, the problems in Dumbrase were manufactured by Russian interference, which is “common knowledge”. But because all roads lead to Russia, you ignored the very real humanitarian assistance the U.S. provided to the Kurds in your desire to support Assad—Russia’s pet mass murderer.

At least you’re trying to distinguish the situation here but it still fails. Who has designated it as autonomous? Who has recognized it? And, again, complete beside the point re the original point about the effects of Kurdish control of this productive area on the Syrian state.

The only failure is yours for pretending that the U.S. has been running rampant through Syria, when the assistance provided to the Kurds was entirely humanitarian in nature.

In contrast, most churches I’ve visited over the years feel dingy and uninviting. Their appearance and atmosphere can be downright depressing. I understand that costs and other limitations play a role, but creating a more uplifting and aesthetically pleasing environment inside churches could potentially increase attendance. Just a thought.

Police lash parents after riot squad called to disperse out-of-control teens on Rottnest IslandBethany HiattThe West Australian
Mon, 9 December 2024 6:09PM

Bethany Hiatt

Police have lashed irresponsible mums and dads for failing to parent their own children after more than 400 unsupervised teens ran amok on Rottnest Island at the weekend, assaulting holiday makers and pelting officers with bottles.
Drunken and disruptive behaviour by teenagers as young as 13 forced police to declare an out-of-control gathering on Friday night and call in riot squad officers and a helicopter to disperse the crowd.
Fremantle District Superintendent David Dench urged parents to take their responsibilities seriously.
“A parent’s job is to supervise their children, and this situation was caused by a large number of intoxicated juveniles unsupervised,” he said.
”So I would ask parents to take that parental responsibility and ensure that their children are supervised at all times on Rottnest Island, and that they don’t have ready access to alcohol.”
Supt. Dench said a growing number of younger teenagers, mostly from Years 10 and 11, were heading to Rottnest each year to celebrate the start of their summer break.
The annual influx, which police dubbed “junior leavers”, had become a “developing issue” in the past three years.
