I do. Alan Jones had the whole might of the NSW Police in all the cars they had at their disposal turn up to arrest him. But before the raid the media were informed so they can be there to record the even for maximum effect. See, the cops are making the state safe from Alan Jones.

In contrast, this nurse was permitted to take her own time and show up at a police station when she felt like it. No media on hand to alert the population of NSW. See, the cops are making the would-be killers safe from the state.

Meanwhile Wilkinson is 600k short in cost stoush with Ten.

Paywallion:

Lisa Wilkinson will be forced to cover at least $600,000 of her own legal costs in defending Bruce Lehrmann’s failed defamation suit, after Network Ten agreed to pay just $1.15m of the estimated $1.8m she has already spent.

However, the agreement on costs, revealed in orders made on Monday in the Federal Court, does not let Ten off the hook for a further round of costs Wilkinson says she is owed.

Germany: New ‘conservative’ government won’t close borders, will fly in thousands of Afghan Muslims

From the comments:

There can be only one *reason* for bringing in mozlums….they had to wait due to the plain fact that other mozlums already there had committed terror attacks on German citizens.

Afghanis are especially prone to rape of young children. Even the evil Pakistanis don’t want them in Pakistan.

The only reason the Pakis don’t want Afghani child rapers is because they are afraid the Afghanis will start on the white girls so beloved of Paki rapists.

I would be utterly gobsmacked if, after over a month, everything has not been duplicated and removed. For every bad actor, there must be others who are disgusted with what their workplace has become.

It would have been an issue of the highest priority once the election results were confirmed.

It is, however, a very neat way to find out who is willing to destroy government property.

Developing Story – 17-year-old Sean Hartman passed away 33 days after his first Pfizer v@ccine.

Ontario, Canada resident Dan Hartman has initiated a wrongful de@th lawsuit against Pfizer after his son Sean passed away from the COVlD-19 jab. If won, it will be the first successful lawsuit in North America against Pfizer for wrongful de@th.

“On the morning of Sept. 27, 2021, 33 days after receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 v@ccination, Sean Hartman was found deceased in his bedroom by his mother,” said Sheikh Law lawyers Umar Sheikh and Angela Wood in a court filing.

Sean was forced to take a COVID-19 v@ccine to be allowed to play hockey. Dan said Sean’s mother took him to the emergency room four days after his first dose because he had brown circles around his eyes, a rash on his face, and pain in his right shoulder.

American pathologist Dr. Ryan Cole determined in July that Sean dièd from the COVID-19 v@ccine via tissue samples sent by the father to America. A large amount of spike protein was found in his adrenal glands.

We must put a spotlight on this! I am currently in contact with the father and will provide updates as this progresses. Winning this case would change everything for parents all over the globe! Pfizer has hired some of the most expensive law firms in Canada to fight against Dan Hartman and we must not allow them to bury yet another parent.

The family also has a separate lawsuit against the Canadian government for wrongful de@th. Please pray for justice for this family. And please make this go viral. We must place a spotlight on his story!

Sean was pressured into taking the jab, but ‘do it or you cant play hockey’ isn’t an existential threat.

Unbelievable! I would have given the two thought police a bloody good ear full.

Vance Vindicated: British Police Doorstep Grandma After Criticising Leftist Lawmakers on Social Media

Britain’s speech police have come under fire yet again after they showed up at a grandmother’s doorstep to give her “advice” after criticising left-wing politicians on social media.

54-year-old school administrator and grandmother Helen Jones said that she was frightened into considering keeping quiet about her political beliefs after officers from the Greater Manchester Police showed up at her door last week over her mild-mannered calls for the resignation of local Labour Councillor David Sedgwick.

Cllr Sedgwick was involved in the WhatsApp scandal in Britain, which resulted in the sacking of former Health Minister Andrew Gwynne, who was accused of posting racist and sexist remarks in a group chat. In response to a letter posted by Sedgwick from an elderly constituent complaining about poor garbage collection, Gwynne reportedly opined that it wouldn’t matter as hopefully she would be dead by the next election.

Outraged, Mrs Jones took to Facebook, where she posted of Sedwick: “Let’s hope he does the decent thing and resigns. I somehow think his ego won’t allow it.” In another post, she said: “Not looking good for Cllr Sedgwick!!!”

Despite admitting that the grandmother had not committed a crime, two plainclothes police officers appeared at her doorstep last Tuesday. Jones later received a phone call from a sergeant informing her that they had received a complaint about her posts on Facebook.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Mrs Jones said: “It was actually quite scary. It made me think I best just keep quiet for the rest of my life, because you just can’t say anything these days.”

“I asked the police officer, have I committed any sort of crime – why did you call at my door? They said, ‘Someone has spoken to us about your social media posts’.

“I then said: ‘If I don’t take your advice and continue doing what I am doing, will I be committing a crime?’ He said no. I then asked: ‘What will you do about it?’ He said: ‘There’s not a lot we can do, we are just giving you advice’.”

Saying that Zelensky was an elected president skated right over the fact that there haven’t been presidential elections since 2019.
Trump is being realistic and wants the destruction to end, even at the cost of Ukraine losing some territory. He’s not alone in that, plenty of Ukrainians would like the deaths of their young men to cease too.

She is electorally toxic because event the resident parrot in the local pet shop (H/T to Paul Keating) knows that she rose to office as a stooge of Obeid and Tripodi.

I suspect Chris Hayes, the previous Labor member for Fowler, also despised her because (unlike Hayes who is the real thing, one of the embattled few remaining in the ALP) she is a woke fake Catholic.

Is there no place that the Wokeness cancer won’t crawl into? No doubt the same already applies here in Oz. Many areas of science have fallen into disrepute because of the ‘sensitivity’.

Woke archaeologists are burying humanity’s past

Too many in the field of archaeology today have fallen victim to prioritising ‘indigenous ways of knowing’ over actual science. Most Native American cultures believe that representations of human remains, even those belonging to non-indigenous peoples, are dangerous. They believe that viewing them can release evil spirits and wreak havoc. These unscientific ideas have been uncritically accepted by right-on archaeologists in the US and, indeed, across the world.

True – but reburying / destroying priceless relics is an enormous crime.
Why were the Mungo skeletons given to some aboriginals to bury in an undisclosed location?
Both me and the aboriginals are far, far more closely related to Julius Caesar than to the Mungo people.
The real issue – current aboriginal people are nothing to do with the Mungo people and the conclusion must be that current aboriginals – to the extent they are not european- are descended from a later wave of aboriginal settlement of which there have been several.
Inconveniently, all the earlier people have disappeared, like the large native animals.

Subject: Welcome to the New Apartheid

Dear Minister,

I refer to the attached article in Quadrant, an excerpt of which follows.

I am uncertain if this falls within your portfolio of responsibilities and, if not, please forward it on to the relevant Minister.

This divisive policy must not be allowed to take root in our beautiful State and if it has already, it must be reversed immediately.

Thank you for your consideration of this important issue that, in other States, is being implemented behind closed doors without the knowledge and thus the approval of the public.

Regards,

Mak Siccar

On July 3, 2022, NSW Liberal then-minister for the environment, James Griffin, announced the development of a new model for Aboriginal joint management of NSW national parks. The model will see the potential handing the title to every NSW national park to Aborigines over the next 15 to 20 years. Land would be leased back to the state government for its continued use and management as national park. This equates to around 10% of the land mass of NSW. We don’t know who is getting ownership and control of our public parks, how much it will cost, how much has already been spent, how much public access will be lost, or how much rent will be paid. The model is playing out with Mt Warning National Park under a veil of secrecy. If other parks follow a similar path, disaster, division and loss of public access to places of natural wonder will result. It seems NPWS’ DEI hires are well into the process of turning this divisive and poorly considered idea into a bleak reality. A new Aboriginal Joint Management Unit  has been established to oversee the development of the proposed new model. The unit has been tasked with development of the “handback” model, starting with consultations with Aboriginal groups.

In this case – supporting Hamas. Other writers claim that there is so much stashed money that the traitors can continue for years unless physically restrained.

He’s pretty brave, tangling with the Egyptian police and security agency. They could have dragged him off and thrown him into a filthy cell, out of contact with anyone.

But the scariest thing of all is that clearly USAID sicced the goons onto him, and they complied. The military style compound and secrecy are also disturbing for what is supposed to be a benovolent distributor of overseas aid.

Draining the swamp is going to take a lot of doing, if this is any guide.

Wielicki on why global boiling is bullshit; in his words:

For decades, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and leading climate scientists have treated certain assumptions about Earth’s climate system as indisputable facts. One of the core tenets of modern climate science has been that as temperatures rise, the atmosphere’s ability to hold moisture increases, leading to more extreme weather events such as heavy rainfall, stronger storms, and prolonged droughts in other areas. This belief is baked into nearly every climate model and policy recommendation.

But what happens when one of these foundational assumptions turns out to be wrong? A new study, published in Geophysical Research Letters (2024), suggests that even basic understandings of how warming interacts with atmospheric moisture may need serious revision.

The IPCC’s Moisture Miscalculation

ENSO influences seasonal conditions, not long term and I doubt climate models show a statistically significant difference in its behaviour (not that that reality stops activists), particularly for northern Australia.

While the PDO is a longer longer term factor regardless and has been not very definitive lately, it might be entering a more favourable negative phase for Oz.

in context of climate models, they have built in assumptions that higher moisture content will result from rising GHG. This paper suggests this is not as much the case, so the predicted higher rainfall in northern Australia as a result of rising GHG may not happen on top of current (high) variability.

Personally I think a lot of long term projections are an artifact of the assumptions.

Bye, Bye?! Greenpeace risks bankruptcy at US pipeline trial – ‘Greenpeace says it could be forced into bankruptcy if it is ordered to pay the approximate $300m in claimed damages’ (24 Feb)

The lawsuit, filed in state court, accuses Greenpeace of an “unlawful and violent scheme to cause financial harm to Energy Transfer, physical harm to its employees and infrastructure, and to disrupt and prevent Energy Transfer’s construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline”.

Energy Transfer brought a similar federal lawsuit in 2017, arguing protesters had violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (Rico) – an allegation more often made against organised crime groups. A judge dismissed the case.

But this trial is taking place in conservative North Dakota.

The state’s former governor, Doug Burgum, is currently leading the federal agency on public lands for the Trump administration, as the secretary for the Department of Interior. Greenpeace has expressed concern that it cannot get a fair hearing in the oil-rich area.

Ratcheting costs now impacting margins in the big supermarkets
Woolworths earnings for the supermarket chain’s Australian Food segment fell 12.8% to A$1.39 billion ($881.54 million) for the six months, mainly due to gross margin impact from higher meat input costs and a customer shift towards more discounted specials. (from Reuters but won’t accept link)
The ratchet effect of higher power prices is now rippling through the economy. It can only get worse because it impacts every step in the supply chain, from grower to wholesaler to retailer. Most fresh produce has to be cool-chained to meet food safety standards meaning dependence on refrigeration throughout the whole system.

The emphasis on discernment in his response suggests to me that, once in power, they might do a whole lot more than what has been eluded to pre-election. One can only hope.

Dear Dr Siccar,

Thank you for your email and attached article. I would say Peter Dutton is the furtherest person away from being “Labor lite” than I can think of. His strength of leadership was shown during the Voice campaign where, despite the first polls showing 70% of Australians were in favour, he stood the ground and changed the narrative.

His stance on nuclear energy, getting rid of wasteful spending, cutting red and green tape and his many no nonsense decisions to cancel visas and deport criminals who are a risk to our people reinforce my assessment of him.

I believe he also has one of the best political brains of the past 50 years, understanding the issues to take to an election and issues you tackle when you’re in government (and this discernment is paramount as evidenced by parties like One Nation and Palmer getting less than 10% of the vote because they don’t have said discernment).

Thank you again for contacting me, I always appreciate those who understand the benefits of conservative politics.

Kind regards

Terry

Waahhh! Our propaganda is not working!

Farmers, investors, miners and parents: how unconventional climate advocates can reach new audiences (Phys.org, 25 Feb)

Acceptance of the fact that climate change is largely caused by humans sits at 60% of Australians, well below other countries.

Holdout groups in Australia can include people associated with political conservatism, the business sector, farming, the resource sector, some religious groups and some sports fans. For these groups, climate advocacy by left-leaning environmentalists may be limited in its effectiveness.

How do you reach these groups? Our new research points to one solution: unconventional climate advocates. That is, those not from the stereotypical background and who belong to holdout groups. Think of groups such as Farmers for Climate Action and the Investor Group on Climate Change.

Yep Cats astroturfing is their recommendation. Sure to work. Here’s who they are:

I asked ChatGPT to compare Dutton to Maocon, Scummo and Abbott:

  • Further right than Malcolm Turnbull – Turnbull was more centrist and socially progressive, especially on issues like climate policy and same-sex marriage. Dutton opposed Turnbull on many of these issues and played a key role in his downfall in 2018.
  • Similar to Scott Morrison, but more hardline – Both are conservative, but Morrison had a more pragmatic, populist approach, while Dutton is often seen as more ideological, particularly on national security, immigration, and law-and-order issues.
  • More ideological than Tony Abbott in some areas – Abbott and Dutton are both strong conservatives, but Abbott had a more traditional, religious conservatism, while Dutton is more focused on security and law enforcement. Abbott also sometimes made economic compromises (like retaining Medicare elements), whereas Dutton is seen as more economically dry and hawkish on spending cuts.

Lefties are vandalizing Teslas.

Why do Tesla owners change their badges? (Tele, 25 Feb, not paywalled)

Tesla owners are disguising their cars as other vehicles in what may be an attempt to avoid vandalism linked to outspoken founder Elon Musk.

Images posted on Reddit show a Tesla Cybertruck with “Toyota” stencilled across its tailgate and a Tesla Model S with a series of Mazda logos on its rear end.

Other examples include Tesla Model 3 vehicles with Honda badges, and another Model 3 with Audi’s four rings on the boot.

The latest batch of Tesla vandalism follows a protracted run of incidents involving Tesla cars being keyed by other motorists.

Many of the culprits were busted on camera by Tesla’s “Sentry” security system.

Aren’t Lefties such charming well-behaved people? Just think of when Biden entered office claiming decency was back.

At root, the challenges will invoke the great principle of English law enunciated in Entick v Carrington in 1765 ( and enthusiasticallyp accepted in USA law) that an organ of the Executive cannot lawfully do something out of “necessity”. Rather, any action must be authorised by statute, the common law (including whatever prerogatives of the Crown survive), and, in the US and in Australia, the Constitution.

In the USA (although not in Australian federal law) the President, nor any other body, lacks p power to do anything characterised as “legislative”. ( There some complexities here, which I won’t pursue). And of course their Constitution sets limits to the exercise of “executive” power.)
Challenges to Trump’s executive orders illustrate the rule of law in action. They are based on Entick v Carrington, and in respect of a constitutional challenge the great principle of judicial review stated by SCOTUS in Marbury v Madison (1803 I think).

A quick glance shows it to be 97.3% political, with freak show characteristics.

A full analysis would clog the Cat arteries and choke a brown dog with tedium. But in summary:

Labor has provided itself a platform to further spruik renewables – with support from a chorus of the usual rent seekers and quasi experts.

The report is Misinformation-Disinformation Central. The extraordinary range of views and lack of any analysis belies any pretence of serious inquiry. About the only firm conclusion is that the Waggyl will be displeased by the huge radiation leak that will sterilise ‘country’.

The Coalition is relying on nobody paying any attention to its Energy or Nuclear policies – which were clearly written over a weekend by 23-year old Communications Studies graduates using ChatGPT as a reference.

Nobody at the Inquiry is pointing to the Elephant in the Room issue. Most of Australia’s dispatchable, coal-fired base load power will have retired from the grid before the Coalition’s planned nukes come on line in 2037 (supposedly), leaving the Australian economy in windmill-powered Mad Max territory.

Australia is not a serious country.

The ratchet effect of higher power prices is now rippling through the economy. It can only get worse because it impacts every step in the supply chain, from grower to wholesaler to retailer.

Australia’s cumulative inflation since the artificial covid stimulus really kicked things off is 19% according to one respected independent economist.

Those price rises will never be wound back and the full impact of net zero on the agricultural & pastoral sectors is yet to be applied.

What the electricity price increases do is increase costs and eat away at your profit margins. It’s been happening for 12 months with big retailers absorbing it or pushing it across lines as they have tried to keep consumer prices down knowing that customers also have less to spend.

Only in the Northern Territory department – unfortunately it’s not though

Rosalie Lalara says she will fight for Groote’s future, has ‘learned from mistakes’ of $500k theft

Rosalie Lalara says she wants to serve the community and has learned from past mistakes that led to a stint in prison for stealing almost $500k in Aboriginal royalties.

One of the candidates gunning for a spot in a remote Northern Territory council has defended her stint in prison for stealing almost $500k in Aboriginal royalties, saying she has learned from past mistakes.

Rosalie Lalara is one of five candidates vying for three councillor positions in next month’s Groote Archipelago Regional Council election.

She says she wants to help shape a better future for the local community

In 2016 Ms Lalara was sentenced to 18 months behind bars after pleading guilty to stealing $492,138 intended for the benefit of traditional clans on the archipelago off the East Arnhem coast.

The money was taken from the Groote Eylandt Aboriginal Trust (GEAT) between 2011 and 2012 while Ms Lalara was employed as the trust’s public officer, and was largely spent on cars, boats and bikes for one of her friends living in Queensland.

During sentencing, NT Supreme Court Justice Graham Hiley said Ms Lalara “fell for the charms” of her friend, and “naively believed that he could assist you and your community if you bestowed these various gifts upon him and his family”.

Speaking to this masthead this week Ms Lalara said she “learned lessons” from that time.

“I’m not going down that track again,” she said.

“My message to people is be careful, because you can be taken for a ride – that’s how I was taken … I’m still asking myself ‘Where did I go wrong?’

“My focus is to rebuild the community again; (with) better housing, hygiene, health and education.”

Other candidates running against Ms Lalara in the council election supported her efforts to serve the community.

Gregson Lalara – Ms Lalara’s cousin-brother – said she had stepped up and was working with local people.

“She’s learned from the mistake, it’s time to move forward and help the community,” he said.

Leonard Amagula said conflicts of interest were common on the island, and the community was practised at managing them.

“The Lalaras would do a good job, always do a good job representing people,” Mr Amagula said.

Gordon Walsh said the misappropriation of funds on the island was an issue that went beyond Ms Lalara’s case.

While many of Groote’s 1600 Indigenous residents live in poverty, the island is one of Australia’s wealthiest areas per capita thanks to royalties from manganese mining.

“I believe there’s a lot of money missing – $500,000 is only part of many millions. There must be a lot of other people out there they should be concerned about,” Mr Walsh said.

“Rosalie certainly has a community consciousness, and she’s paid her price.

“Good on her that she’s got that civic consciousness or civic duty, you need to have people doing it (running in elections), it’s only a small community.”

Ms Lalara’s crimes were revealed amid an investigation into $34m that disappeared from the GEAT coffers between 2010 and 2012.

It was not suggested that Ms Lalara was responsible for all of the missing money, however she was the only individual ever charged.

In a separate case, the Auditor-General found $24m, or half of the Anindilyakwa Land Council 2021-22 royalties, was invested into entities supporting Winchelsea Mining – an enterprise jointly established and directed by then chief executive Mark Hewitt and late council chair T Wurramarrba.

Ms Lalara – in a longstanding feud with ALC management – gathered hundreds of signatures off the back of the auditor’s report demanding the federal government investigate “potential gross misconduct” regarding Indigenous royalty distribution.

Leaked documents later revealed Mr Hewitt, who has always denied any wrongdoing, had sought a personal stake of up to 10 per cent in Winchelsea Mining.

Federal investigations were ultimately launched into the ALC, and have led to Mr Hewitt being sacked, the ALC board and management “put on notice”, funding frozen, and raids on the ALC office by the anti-corruption watchdog.

Mr Hewitt and Mr Wurramarrba have not been charged with any offences.

Polling in WA seats points to crucial Liberal Party gains

The Liberals are on track to claim three key Federal seats in Western Australia amid growing voter concern about the risk of a hung parliament, new polling commissioned by the oil and gas sector shows.
The survey of more than 800 voters in each of the key WA seats of Bullwinkel, Curtin and Tangney show the opposition in prime position to claim all three, in what would be a major blow to the Albanese Government.
Liberal candidate Tom White holds a commanding 65-35 two-party preferred lead over teal independent Kate Chaney in the seat of Curtin, a former Liberal stronghold that fell at the 2022 election.
The new seat of Bullwinkel is down to a race between the Liberals and Nationals, with Labor attracting a primary vote of just 15 per cent in a seat that takes in the rural areas on Perth’s eastern fringe. Liberal candidate Matt Moran comfortably leads former Nationals WA leader Mia Davies 41 to 22 on primaries.

Kean, a former NSW treasurer and deputy, was appointed by Labor to the authority last year.

“I got to thinking about Trump’s move to overturn birthright citizenship, arguing that the historical intent was around children of slaves, and it isn’t relevant today.”

That was indeed the intent, not that literally anyone born on US soil is automatically a citizen. This is clear in both the wording of the amendment and also in the contemporary writings of the time, including those of the man who proposed that amendment.

“… under the jurisdiction of..” and “..the state in which they reside…” was meant to exclude embassy staff of foreign nations etc, as well as illegal aliens, tourists and so on. There was discussion of this at the time in The Federalist as noted above even by the man who proposed it and before it was voted upon. Seems quite clear what they meant.

Given the current justices in SCOTUS are majority of the “originalist” persuasion, it seems likely DJT will win any fight they bring against him on this.

The point I was making wasn’t about the 14th Amendment per se.
What I was pointing out is that the delving into historical intent and modern day relevance (or irrelevance) is precisely the argument lefties use in trying to overturn the 2nd Amendment.
If the 14th is reinterpreted on those grounds, I can see a future SCOTUS reinterpreting the 2nd Amendment using that precedent.

The sophistry orbits around words that have had meanings, or even primary meanings, shift over time.

“Subject to the Jurisdiction of…” was about allegiance. Much like we used to be British Subjects, even if we did not want to.

So diplomats are out because they are ‘subjects’ of their own country. Same with invading forces. All the illegals are subjects of the country they left.

It is a bit like the Second Amendment which refers to ‘a well regulated militia’. At the time it was written that meant the men were well ordered and the equipment well maintained. Progressives pretend it means one subject to government regulation.

Yeah, the Americans had just won their way out from under a government they viewed as treating them unjustly, and they did so from their own resources. Sure, they are going to make an amendment that expands the control of the government to prevent them standing up to it.

We still refer to people having regular habits. It means orderly and healthy. It does not mean eating junk food at precisely the same times and diligently observing a regime of 12 hours a day watching TV. And it certainly does not mean following the governments rules for personal habits.

It’s a monumentally stupid take to say that Trump is taking Russia’s side because he slapped Zelensky down.
Just as stupid a take as those who say he wants to destroy NATO because he told the other members 8 years ago to PAY UP.
Or that he hates Canada or Mexico because he told them to stop letting drugs and people to pass into the USA, or to allow themselves to be used to bypass strategic tariffs on China.
If you have friends and family who have been taking advantage of you, you must tell them to stop, in order to save the friendship.
In the case of international relations, in a time when one side of politics has been infected by a corrosive ideology, and that side will attempt to make political mileage over being told to straighten up, firmness is even more important.
And if you lose allies over that, then they never were real allies.
This year can only get more interesting as it all proceeds.

For Catholic Cats (or culturally interested Cats), I’ve been doing a bit of surfing on the possible 138 Papal candidates over these last few days. And I think this guy would be my “dream pope:”

Cardinal Péter Eijk (from Hungary)

Eijk is known for being methodical, intellectual, and deeply rooted in Church law. He played a major role in guiding European bishops as President of the Council of Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE) from 2006 to 2016. During his leadership, he worked on strengthening Catholic identity in secular Europe and defending traditional family values. He has consistently supported traditional Catholic teachings on marriage, sexuality, and life issues. He has been critical of liberal interpretations of Catholic teachings, aligning him with conservative voices in the Church but he is a liturgical moderate meaning he could be a compromise pick.
IMHO, these other three would be a good pick also:

Cardinal Cordez (Germany, and whom I’ve met!).Schönborn (Austria)Llovera (Spain)
The worst conservative picks would be:

Burke (USA)Muller (Germany)Piacenza (Italy).
The worst progressive picks (those who hate Trump, love the DEI/XYZ crowd, would probably embrace the CoE philosophy etc…) would be:

Zuppi (Italy)McElroy (USA)Hollerich (Luxembourg)Cupich (USA)Tobin (USA).
“Bookmark” this post for the day when we’re waiting for white smoke!!!

Some very unforeseen Popes would’ve included John XXIII (too old !), Pope Pius IX (a liberal turned conservative), JPII (too young and not Italian!), JPI (not a frontrunner at all), even Francis himself as he was not European.

And, for extra fun: Benedict IX! (Elected Pope at 20 years old… although, he didn’t last long!)

I think the St. Gallenites play for keeps. They don’t seem to’ve been discredited enough yet for a different outcome.

The Vatican is a little slower than national politics, so the rebellion we’re seeing against the Left will take longer to percolate into it. I hope whoever ascends to Peter’s seat will not do too much damage, but given what Francis has been doing I am not rosy about that.

Just out in the Oz:

Dozens of schoolchildren joined in chants of “Allahu Akbar” (God is the greatest) outside a public school in Granville in southwest Sydney on Wednesday as tensions rose in the aftermath of police charging nurse Sarah Abu Lebdeh over an anti-Semitic video.

Ms Lebdeh and her colleague Ahmad Rashad Nadir, who has not been charged, allegedly threatened to kill Israeli patients and refuse to treat them.

On Wednesday morning protesters at Granville Boys High School demanded the return to school of support officer Sheik Wesam Charkawi, who was ordered by the NSW Education Department to work from home after defending the two nurses in an Instagram post.

Palestinian and Lebanese flags were waved during the protest as older men led the chants through loud hailers. Some students in uniform appeared to join the chants, while others gathered behind the school fence also joined in.

The protest was organised by Teachers and School Staff for Palestine NSW, which celebrated the “spirited turnout of students, teachers, community for Sheik Wesam”.

In his Instagram video, Sheik Charkawi said the nurses’ comments were “never meant to be literal or intended to be a threat to patient care” and criticised the “hypocrisy” of Anthony Albanese and NSW Health Minister Ryan Park for remaining silent “when confronted with the most egregious acts of violence committed by Israel”.

The Muslim Vote convener was ordered to take down the posts and work from home for allegedly breaching the department’s social media policy and code of ethics.

An Australian National Imams Council member, Sheik Charkawi came to public prominence after establishing The Muslim Vote campaign to take on Labor at the federal election.

On Wednesday the ANIC declared it is “deeply concerned and disappointed by the targeting of Muslim and Pro-Palestinian professionals and staff and most recently one of its own member Imams”.

“Such actions set a dangerous precedent that threatens the principles of fairness, freedom of speech and democracy in Australia.”

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies vice-president David Ossip said: “These are incredibly troubling scenes. It is outrageous, scandalous and sad that children at a taxpayer-funded school were exploited as props at a divisive political rally.

“Serious questions need to be asked about how this was allowed to proceed. How were radicals allowed to stand outside the school gates and whip students into a fervour? How could any student or staff member who doesn’t share the views of the demonstrators feel safe in that environment?”

NSW Education Minister Prue Car has been asked for comment.

Strike Force Pearl detectives arrested Ms Abu Lebdeh after she attended Sutherland police station on Tuesday evening.

The former Bankstown Hospital nurse was captured on video earlier this month telling Israeli social media influencer Max Veifer: “One day, your time will come, and you will die the most horrible death.”

She and Mr Nadir, who also allegedly made threatening statements, were immediately sacked and banned from practising as nurses.

She was charged with three commonwealth offences – threaten violence to group, use carriage service to threaten to kill and use carriage service to menace/harass/offend.

Ms Abu Lebdeh is on strict bail conditions prohibiting her from going to a point of departure from Australia and banned from using social media.

Mr Nadir was admitted to hospital two weeks ago over concerns for his mental health and has not been charged.

NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said the charges were a major development in what had been a very thorough and exhaustive investigation by detectives attached to Strike Force Pearl.

“Strike Force Pearl detectives must be commended for acting swiftly under enormous pressure and public expectation,” Commissioner Webb said.

“These charges have been laid following a lot of hard work and legal advice received yesterday from the commonwealth DPP.

“Detectives have overcome obstacles and jurisdictional challenges to get where we are today.

“This is the 14th arrest under Strike Force Pearl, with a total of 76 charges laid, which demonstrates the commitment of strike force detectives investigating these offences.”

Ms Abu Lebdeh’s family had previously said the nurse was “sorry” and had suffered an “extreme panic attack”.

In the now-viral video, Ms Abu Lebdeh allegedly told the influencer: “It (Israel) is Palestine’s country, not your country, you piece of shit.

“One day your time will come. One day you’ll die the most …”

She went on to say “when your time comes, I want you to remember my face so you can understand that you will die the most disgusting death”.

Asked what would happen if an Israeli patient came into the hospital, Ms Abu Lebdeh said: “I won’t treat them, I will kill them.”

Mr Nadir allegedly said that while Mr Veifer had “beautiful eyes”, he was going to “get killed” and go to “hell”. “Those pretty eyes should stay in this world for longer,” Mr Nadir said, who described himself in the footage as a “doctor”, which, given he was a nurse, may also constitute an offence.

Mr Veifer is a Hebrew-speaking English teacher who regularly posts videos to social media in which he has conversations on that site, particularly when he is matched with people that share anti-Israel and anti-Jewish views.

Ms Abu Lebdeh was granted conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday, March 19.

More to come.

Australia’s spy chief: Antisemitism now agency’s ‘top priority’ (25 Feb)

Antisemitism is now the “number one priority” of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), the director-general of the agency, Mike Burgess, told a Senate committee on Tuesday.

“In terms of threats to life, [antisemitism is] my agency’s number one priority because of the weight of incidents we’re seeing play out in this country,” he told the Senate. “Antisemitism and significant antisemitism acts are prominent in our investigation caseload at this point in time.”

@JohnMcCloy

Mike Benz lays out again the same template seems to have become our chief intelligence export abroad which is “Election Management” and the goal of stamping out foreign populism and an adjacent attack to prevent “Trumpism” in other nations such as Brazil.
This is why there is full blown panic over USAID. The American citizens had been paying to TRAIN judges & prosecutors in conjunction with groups such as the Wilson Center on how to censor KEYWORDS akin to what was done here in the 2020 election & in Brazil’s case to stamp out “Bolsonaroism” use law enforcement as a deterrent.
And in their own words “Prevented the useful INNOCENT PEOPLE from spreading FAKE NEWS & EVEN SCARED AMATEUR & PROFESSIONAL DIGITAL MILITIAS”
Notice how the key goal is a censorship in conjunction with lawfare. Mike has shown us it’s the same playbook we saw in Europe in Poland & Australia. I recommend you watch the entire clip.

Some further thoughts on the Wentworth ‘rogue’ poll and whether Spender will win or lose….

Firstly, I don’t know if Spender will win or lose the seat, there has been a slight electoral redistribution so now the electorate takes in some slivers of areas that were once part of Plibersek’s electorate of Sydney, suburbs such as Potts Point and Woolloomooloo. This might favour Spender after preferences.

Secondly, Wentworth is filled with many effluent and entitled idiots where the economic and social issues currently impacting ordinary Australians in middle and working Australia simply don’t resonate in Wentworth. That’s not to say everyone in Wentworth is rich, they’re not.

I can say with 100% certainty that Allegra Spender does not have a 70% approval rating in Wentworth, and I can also say with some certainty that she has completely lost the Jewish vote.

Looking wider, the Liberals will take back Curtin (there’s a new poll in today’s Oz which is say Chaney is gonski).

Liberal candidate Tom White holds a commanding 65-35 two-party preferred lead over teal independent Kate Chaney in the seat of Curtin, a former Liberal stronghold that fell at the 2022 election.

I also think the Liberals will take back Mackellar and Goldstein. Not sure about Wentworth, Warringah and Kooyong.

Anyway, the above are my thoughts, interested to hear the thoughts of fellow Wentworthians. I would love to see Spender gone, I would love to see ALL the Teals confined to the dustbin of history!

Some locals in Vaucluse have already put out posters for Ro Knox outside their properties. I have’t seen one yet on a property for Allegra. Keeping an eye on a few locals whom I know last time put up posters on their properties for Allegra, it may be they are waiting for the election to be called. The Libs are being pro-active, a big unmissable sign for Ro Knox is now up at the busy intersection above Edgecliff station, to catch traffic as it spins down the hill towards Double Bay. I wasn’t shouted down when I called out ‘Get lost’ to the Allegra ‘the independent choice’ movie ad recently. There is a certain anti-Allegra mood. The Wentworth Courier had a big and (very unusually for them) not negative spread on Ro Knox on Wednesday last, stressing that she was very much a local girl who brought up her children in Wentworth even though she originated and went to school in Melbourne.

“It seems plausible if the predictions hold true. As I mentioned, it then comes down to the cost of the build—which is capitalized anyway—followed by depreciation and the running costs of the shop floor with significantly reduced human labor. In this scenario, firms might actually prefer to locate their plants closer to their home base.”

This only holds true for “traditional” manufacturing.
What happens when AI (or humans, for that matter) manage to create “molecular manufacturing”? As Drexler proposed in the ’70’s (“The coming Era of Nanotechnology”), and someone else in the ’50’s (Feinman? “There’s plenty of room at the bottom” lecture) this is “a place for every atom, and every atom in it’s place”. Trillions of sub-human-cell sizes robots cooperating to create structures from the atom up – electronics, diamond fiber weave one tenth the weight of the same strength of aluminium, etc etc, all done in a machine the size of, say, a microwave oven that can make whatever you want as long as it fits inside the place it’s made. Bigger ones for bigger things. “Seeds” that scavenge energy and materials from the environment to “grow” a car, a house, whatever. Computer memory so small, the contents of the entire existing internet can be held in your hand (with plenty of room to spare!) “Active” materials that repair themselves when they begin to crack. Cellular surgery that baring accidents could make you immortal, even un-do aging.

It all sounds impossible, but as Drexler shows, it’s not – not really. He left several orders of magnitude as “margin” and it still could be done. We don’t know if we can do it, but as far as we can tell, it’s not against the laws of physics or biology as we know them.
Very, very scary, but like so much tech, also very, very useful, at lest potentially. And probably available in the next 10 years max.

Host Shocked as Rubio Explains How Ukraine Double Crossed the U.S.

In the Rubin Report video, host Dave Rubin discusses a revelation from Marco Rubio regarding Ukraine’s dealings with the United States. Rubio expresses his dissatisfaction with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, specifically mentioning a disagreement over a proposed joint venture involving Ukraine’s mineral rights. The deal was meant to provide the U.S. with a vested interest in Ukraine’s security, utilizing its mineral wealth to repay U.S. taxpayers for aid given, approximating $200 billion. Rubio claims Zelensky initially agreed to the proposal, pending legislative approval, but later publicly denied the agreement. This inconsistency frustrated Rubio and President Trump, who felt misled. Despite the geopolitical distance, the issue holds global significance for U.S. alliances, emphasizing the need for gratitude and truthfulness from Ukraine. Rubin praises Rubio’s straightforward communication style and expresses hope for a positive resolution.

We really should just ban women’s teams sports altogether.

Other than ensuring lots of teenage girls get ACL injuries and become lezzos, what on earth is the point?

It probably has something to do with the fact that people have less kids so many fathers have no sons and try and get their poor daughters to emulate their would be sons. Daughters – always looking to please those in authority – pretend to actually enjoy it.

It takes resources away from boys sport – aka proper sport – and everybody has to spend every waking moment lying about how the women are actually good. Just like how we had to all lie about men getting pregnant.

Call me a simp if you like but I would be willing to permit girls do athletics and racquet sports.

In the video, Ron Paul discusses the issue of currency debasement and the uncertainty surrounding the U.S. gold reserves at Fort Knox. He explains how debasing currency is linked to dishonesty by the government, which started soon after the Federal Reserve was established. He highlights the detachment of the dollar from the gold standard in 1971, marking a significant economic shift that affirmed predictions by free-market and Austrian economists about future currency instability. Paul raises concerns over whether the U.S. holds all the gold it claims and advocates for transparency by auditing gold reserves. He suggests that if the government is confident in its gold holdings, they should prove it publicly, as trust in money requires transparency and honesty. Paul notes that the current lack of confidence in the U.S. dollar is causing other countries to consider creating new competing currencies, indicating the fragile state of the dollar internationally.

The effect of this would be that manufacturing would be proportionate to the size of the population. That still holds well for China.

How so? Consider a scenario where, due to advancements in technology, manufacturing largely returns to the home country.
China currently maintains a significant trade surplus. In this scenario, that surplus would shrink, and the U.S. trade deficit would decrease. As a result, China’s manufacturing base would face considerable pressure.

The Navy With More Admirals Than Warships

The video “The Navy With More Admirals Than Warships” by Mark Felton Productions explores the disproportionate number of admirals in the Royal Navy compared to its current fleet size. The Royal Navy has shrunk significantly since the Cold War, currently having only 62 commissioned ships, with just 25 being true warships. Despite this reduction, the number of admirals remains high, with 40 admirals for a personnel strength of 32,225, leading to a ratio of one admiral per 805 personnel. In contrast, in 1939, the Royal Navy had 1,400 ships and 200,000 personnel with only 53 admirals. The video questions the necessity of so many high-ranking officials given the Navy’s reduced capacity. It also highlights the financial implications of these positions on the defense budget and criticizes the taxpayer burden due to royal entitlements linked to naval assets. The discussion is presented as “food for thought” regarding the Navy’s current fitness for purpose.

Lol Marty Sheargold gets it. And promptly banhammered. Hun:

Triple M host Marty Sheargold has failed to front up for his 3pm show amid growing backlash over his “disgraceful” comments about female athletes.

The radio veteran was off-air on Wednesday afternoon, with the station playing music to fill the airwaves.

His absence comes amid widespread outrage over his Matildas outburst on Monday.

Triple M have confirmed he will not broadcast today.

His future on the station remains unclear.

It comes as Football Australia has branded Sheargold’s comments about the Matildas as “unacceptable”, saying they undermine the value of women and girls’ participation in sport.

So what was said?

Outrage grew on Wednesday after Sheargold unloaded on women’s sport and the Matildas on his Triple M show, saying he would “rather hammer a nail through the head of my (audio beeped out) than watch that”.

He then asked colleague Will Ralston, who was covering the team’s poor results, if he’s “got any men’s sport”.

“You know what, they remind me of year 10 girls,’’ Sheargold said during a live segment on Monday.

“All the infighting and all the friendship issues, ‘the coach hates me and I hate bloody training and Michelle’s being a bi**h.

“Now I’m sorry to undermine the whole sport but that’s what I think of it so you can stick it up your arse.”

When Ralston said the team was playing in the SheBelieves Cup, Sheargold exclaimed: “She believes in what … it better be men.”

Outstanding. But didn’t go down well.

The outburst — which Sheargold on Wednesday said was a bad joke — has been slammed by women athletes including Hockeyroo player Rosie Malone and swimming greats Libby Trickett and Leisel Jones.

Football Australia weighed into the controversy, saying the remarks “not only diminish the extraordinary achievements and contributions of our women’s national football team but also fail to recognise the profound impact they have had on Australian sport and society’’.

“The CommBank Matildas have inspired a new generation of Australians from young boys and girls to men and women who now see a future for themselves in football and sport more broadly,” the statement said.

“They have broken barriers, set new standards, and elevated the game to unprecedented heights. Their success has been instrumental in transforming women’s sport in Australia and they deserve to be covered with the respect and professionalism they have earned.

“While we acknowledge the apologies issued by both Triple M and Marty Sheargold, this incident is a stark reminder of the responsibility media outlets and personalities have in fostering respectful and constructive discussions about women’s sport and its participants.

A clip posted by Hockeyroo Malone described Sheargold’s comments as hurtful.

“I honestly don’t know what is wrong with the world … I heard this on the radio yesterday in prime-time (5.30pm) on the way to training and all I could think about was the young girls sitting in the car with their parents, maybe on the way to or from their own training sessions hearing this,’’ Malone wrote on Instagram.

“I’m sure many of them would have been hurt and confused… I was in disbelief. This is apparently acceptable on mainstream afternoon radio?? HOW??”

It’s acceptable because it’s entirely true darling.
And Football Australia or whoever, I have never seen a young boy running around trying to emulate the feats of any of the Matildas so stop the shit.
Again, excellent work by Mr Sheargold.

Because, if manufacturing in this scenario largely meets local demand, all things being equal, China still has a significantly larger population than the US. This would also be good news for Europe, India, or any large economy that has good transport networks that can meet regional needs.

China currently has a trade surplus. By definition, this means China produces more than it consumes in order to export. If other countries produce more than they are currently consuming (displacing imports), then China’s production will need to decrease to match the reduced demand from overseas.

No it doesn’t. Theoretically, Chinese manufacturing would be smaller than it is now though, but sure, bigger than elsewhere due to its size.

You go girl.
Payman should not be in Parliament and in fact ought to be sent to Gitmo.

I am a woman from Iran, and I testify that you,

@SenatorPayman

, are lying. As a woman, I was sentenced to prison. I was sentenced to lashes, and I survived one kidnapping attempt and two assassination plots—simply for expressing myself. Many other Iranian women can testify that they have faced the brutality of the morality police simply for showing their hair. Many mothers are facing repercussions simply for asking why the regime killed their loved ones. That is the reality of the Islamic Republic, the regime you are whitewashing. Fatima Payman’s statement sounds like it was written by the propaganda arm of the Islamic Republic itself. According to her, Iran is an “incredible place” for women, yes, so incredible that women are legally sentenced to lashes for not covering their hair. So incredible that they’re shot in the eyes, imprisoned, and murdered for daring to demand freedom. The Islamic Republic doesn’t “allow” women to participate, it controls, polices, and punishes them. If women had a real voice, why are so many of them in prison? Why are three women on death row right now, waiting to be executed at any moment for supporting “Woman, Life, Freedom”? Why was Mahsa Amini killed for a few strands of hair? The only thing women are “ensured” under the Islamic Republic is systematic oppression. Fatima Payman’s words erase the suffering of millions of Iranian women who resist this gender apartheid regime every single day. If she truly believes women’s voices are heard, I invite her to go to Tehran, remove her hijab, and try speaking freely. Let’s see how long she enjoys this so-called “democratic process” before she’s thrown in prison. You owe an apology to millions of Iranians whose suffering you have dismissed and erased with your blatant lies.

The Saints parents of diabetic girl Elizabeth Struhs sentenced to 14 years’ jailMackenzie Scott
11 minutes ago

The parents of eight-year-old diabetic Elizabeth Struhs, who died after her lifesaving medication was stopped, have been sentenced to 14 years in jail after they were found guilty of the child’s manslaughter alongside a dozen other members of their fringe Christian group.
Brisbane Supreme Court judge Martin Burns said the 14 members of the Toowoomba-based religious group The Saints – which included Elizabeth’s parents, Jason and Kerry Struhs – had allowed their faith to blind them to the pain and suffering the girl faced in the lead-up to her protracted and painful death in 2022 from ketoacidosis.
All were found guilty of manslaughter following a nine-week judge-only trial.
“Elizabeth’s death was and remains profoundly disturbing,” Justice Burns said.
“It was so entirely and easily preventable. Each of you engaged in some sort of spiritual gamble with the life of a child, a child who professed love. The arrogance of your belief in that regard was and remains bewildering.
“Not one of you seems to have found it within yourselves to even consider the possibility your leader’s interpretation of the Bible might be wrong … what you did was gamble with the life of a child based on your peculiar interpretation of disparate passages from the Bible and nothing more.”
Elizabeth, a type-1 diabetic, was found dead on the morning of January 7, 2022, four days after her essential insulin was withheld due to the congregation’s rejection of modern medicine and faith that God would save her. The group prayed and sang over her body for more than 36 hours before calling triple-0, expecting she would rise from the dead.
Mr Struhs, 53, was sentenced to 14.5 years in prison.
Ms Struhs, 49, was ordered to serve 14 years’ imprisonment for her role in Elizabeth’s death. However, as she was on parole at the time for failing to provide the child the necessities of life in 2019, for which she served five months, Justice Burns ordered she must serve the remaining 373 days of that sentence, bringing the total sentence to over 15 years.
Both have already served 1142 days in custody, which will be considered time served, and must serve at least 80 per cent of the period.
Mr Struhs and the religious leader Brendan Stevens, 63, were initially charged with murder by reckless indifference, with the trial considered a test case of the new charge in Queensland. However, Justice Burns found them guilty of manslaughter as they did not fully realise Elizabeth could die.
Justice Burns labelled Mr Stevens as “dangerous” and “manipulative”. He said the 63-year-old led a “campaign” within the church to persuade Elizabeth’s father to embrace The Saints’ beliefs, and sentenced the leader to 13 years behind bars.
“I think it is quite likely that had he not encouraged Jason Struhs on that Tuesday afternoon to keep believing in your brand of faith, he would have taken Elizabeth to hospital,” Justice Burns said.
“If that occurred, she would be with us today.”
All other 11 members of the group were also convicted of manslaughter. These include Elizabeth’s brother Zachary Struhs, 22, Mr Steven’s wife, Loretta Stevens, 67, and their children Camellia Stevens, 29, Andrea Stevens, 35, Alexander Stevens, 26, Acacia Stevens, 32, Sebastian Stevens, 24, and additional members Samantha Schoenfisch, 26, Lachlan Schoenfisch, 34, and Keita Martin, 24.

Top cop reveals why male nurse yet to be charged over alleged antisemitic video (Sky News mainpage headline, 26 Feb)

The male nurse at the centre of a viral antisemitic video allegedly threatening to harm Israeli patients has not been charged as he is receiving medical treatment, police say.

The NSW police chief added it was “out of her control” that detectives had been unable to interview Mr Nadir who police confirmed was “receiving ongoing medical treatment”.

Speaking to 2GB earlier, Commissioner Webb did not go into the specifics of another person’s medical history, but noted the “matter is ongoing until we’re able to talk to him”.

“We just have to work around his personal circumstances at the moment,” she said.

Commissioner Webb also praised the efforts from Strike Force Pearl investigators for their “tireless work” in a “complex” case to bring charges against Ms Abu Lebdeh in 13 days.

This is a complete farce. The guy claimed he’s actually killed Israelis and he’s being handled with kid gloves. Rude words!

Rook takes pawn check.

If the king goes diagonal down right on to the white space then rook across checkmate.

If the king goes up then check with the bishop. King has to go to the corner or next square. On the corner rook advances checkmate. On the white square knight checks, king goes to corner and rook checkmates.

Sorry I can’t do the nomenclature thing stuff.

Have you ever noticed that your friends suddenly have a house deposit? Or they pursue their passions, yet always manage to pay the rent? What about those jokes you make about not being able to afford a house until your parents pass away? Are you a parent worried about how to help your adult children financially?
You’re not alone. What’s happening is the largest intergenerational wealth transfer ever – largely from Boomers to Millennials. Combined with the housing and cost-of-living crises, this is leading to some rather awkward, dark humour. More concerningly, it’s starting to tear at our nation’s social fabric.

I think the States need to think out of the box on this one.

There’s an awful lot of people that turn up to hospitals because they can’t get a GP (is late at night, a Sunday or GP is fully booked) and then also with minor concerns (broken arms, legs etc.. through to colds and flus).

A hospital should always be for last resort causes.

It’s almost like they need to come up with a “Mezzanine hospital…”

(Yes, that’ll add a coupla billion to health budgets but as one Under Treasurer once said to me: “If you did a review into how to fix the State Health portfolio (was $8bn p.a. back then), it’ll cost a billion to do the review and the review will recommend another $8bn.”)

I hear this is a NSW thing, which doesn’t necessarily happen in other states – where apparently in some, if badness occurs you are most very definitely arrested, and then remanded in custody and guarded until such time as you front the court.

I know some states have secure prison/remand wings – some of them in actual hospitals – for the purpose. This also discourages people from playing the ‘Hey, I’m mental!’ card straight off the bat.

Delta Air Lines settles with pilot who raised safety concerns

In early 2016, Petitt gave two top Delta executives a report running more than 40 pages in which she raised allegations about pilots being forced to fly when they were fatigued, gaps in Delta’s pilot training, falsification of training records and other issues. She also emailed the airline’s CEO.

After meeting with Delta officials, Petitt was referred to a psychiatrist picked by the airline, who diagnosed a bipolar disorder. Petitt was grounded for nearly two years until independent doctors found her fit to fly.

Trouble, from Lindsey Buckingham’s album, Law and Order.

Extended version.

Lindsey Buckingham ~ Trouble 1981 Disco Purrfection Version

After recording “Tusk” with Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey went on a voyage of self discovery and prepared to release his first solo album while the rest of the band was taking a sabbatical after their lengthy 1980 world tour. Nicks went to work on “Bella Donna” which cemented her stature as one of rocks greatest female voices.

Lindsey had already produced and written hit songs for Walter Egan (Magnet And Steel) then John Stewart (Gold), refining his pop style along the way and provided backing vocals with Stevie. His first solo effort was titled “Law And Order” and he played almost all the instruments and had guest appearances from Christine McVie and Mick Fleetwood.

The single went to #9 in the US and spent three weeks at #1 in Australia, two weeks at #1 in South Africa and peaking at #31 in the UK. “Trouble” was written with and inspired by Richard Dashut, a producer who was Fleetwood Mac’s frequent collaborator.

Mick Fleetwood played live drums for “Trouble” but Lindsey took a four second drum loop and that is what he used for the entire song. He ripped a page right out the Bee Gees production book by doing that since they had picked out a four second loop from “Stayin’ Alive” and used it for Night Fever and a few other songs.

Buckingham overdubbed a few crashes and added percussion bringing in bassist George Hawkins to make the tune groove. Lindsay is particularly proud of the way the Spanish guitar sounds here, and his distinctive finger plucking style lends an energy that beautifully completes the musical phrasing. This production style lent itself well to the Fleetwood Mac “Mirage” LP that had the same mint fresh pop sound as “Trouble”.

The promotional video features an all male band with six drummers including Fleetwood and Andy Ward, four guitarists including Buckingham, Bob Welch, Bob Weston and Walter Egan and two bassists.

I think it was Bill P. last night who mentioned that the fate of his father, who served in the 2/14th Australian Infantry Battalion in WWII, was never known, after being declared missing in PNG.

It’s a topic that only ultra-nerds (not the smart type) like me find of interest, but there was a great deal of effort invested during the handful of years following the end of the war, into investigating the whereabouts of both servicemen and civilians who went missing from our north during the period of occupation by the Japanese.

The National Archives of Australia’s Record Search database features a decent number of (accessible online) files covering these searches, often in conjunction with war crime investigations. By the by, the 17th of next month will mark 80 years since the massacre of 30-odd civilians (Australians and German missionaries) at Kavieng, New Ireland (North nor-east of Rabaul). They were individually strangled with ropes at the Kavieng wharf by members of the Japanese Navy’s 83rd Keibitai, their bodies weighted with concrete blocks, and disposed off in the ocean.

None of the above helps Bill P. of course, but I think it important to know that despite our modern pre-occupation with an extremely narrow commemorative focus, the war didn’t end for numerous service people in the searcher and war crimes teams, and nor, of course, did it end for the families of those many hundreds who still remain missing.

Postscript: Having been very familiar with the history of one of the units on the doomed merchant vessel the Montevideo Maru, I was so pleased when it was found not so long ago. That three generations later, at least some individuals have not forgotten those missing men, almost renews my faith in humanity.

It tells me they are used to doing everything manually, and have no idea of data analysis techniques.
The DOGEys are going to do a number of things:-
1. Firstly, the non responses. Simples.
2. Next they will filter looking for words which might indicate the author has been up to activities discontinued by EOs … notably “diversity”, “equity” and “inclusion”.
3. They will throw key words from standard CVs up against the emails looking for mismatches.
Apart from non-responses, the other filters might lead to secondary questions. For example, if you job title is “Call Centre Co-ordinator” and there is nothing in your dot points indicating that you have been doing that, why not?

Sydney Cats, I just had a flying visit to your fair city to attend a wedding. Saturday afternoon and evening in the lovely Botanic Gardens.
Wow. What a city, what people. The bride is from DC, and about 8 of her family came out and the groom’s brothers came from London and Tokyo so us Perth people were just locals.
And we danced! We love to dance!

The next day we went to the Art Gallery of NSW. Never been before! Spent some time in the modern, and we were rather impressed. More impressed in the old part though!

The best part was just the city. The old character suburbs, the bridges and Harbour, the beach and surf club, the tunnels and surprisingly easy movement outside rush hour. So much compacted into so small an area!

Australian Defence Force chief torpedoes Anthony Albanese’s version of events in Chinese live-fire drillBen Packham
51 minutes ago.
Updated 10 minutes ago.

Listen to this article
7 min
Defence officials have revealed an “unprecedented” joint surveillance operation tracking three Chinese warships off Australia’s coast only reported their live weapons drill an hour and a half after it started, contradicting Anthony Albanese’s version of events.
The Chief of the Defence Force, David Johnston, told Senate estimates on Wednesday that a warning from a New Zealand warship that Australia was relying on to track the flotilla was received in Canberra about 11am last Friday – 90 minutes after the exercise began and about an hour after a similar warning was relayed by a commercial pilot.
But the Prime Minister insisted later on Wednesday that the New Zealand warning came through “at around the same time” as the Virgin pilot’s notification to Airservices Australia, which had been passed to Defence 50 minutes earlier.
The comment, and his claims last week that China had provided notice of the drill “in accordance with practice”, prompted Coalition allegations he was misleading the public.
The charge comes ahead of a looming federal election campaign in which the Prime Minister’s leadership and grasp of complex detail will come under intense scrutiny.
Amid growing political furore over the warships’ activities off Australia’s coast, Admiral Johnston also said there was a real prospect that a Chinese nuclear-powered submarine was lurking underneath the task group.

BREAKING: ROMANIAN POLICE ARREST PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE C?LIN GEORGESCU

Despite @JDVance’s warnings to Romania not to interfere in elections, Georgescu was arrested on the day he was going to file to run for president.

The elections are scheduled for May after the Constitutional Court annulled the previous results that put Georgescu in first place.

He was arrested outside a doctor’s office after he was being checked up following knee surgery that he had last week.

Earlier, police raided over 50 homes connected to Georgescu the day after 3 opposition parties filed a motion of no-confidence in the government.

If the polls continue to disappoint for the Liars Party, I wonder if they’d try to do a swap—remove the Albanian from the PM position and replace him with someone else. There would be lots of apologies and promises to change tack. Beetie’s entire success, in Queensland, in winning was apologizing for mistakes made. I know it’s difficult to get rid of a Liars Party leader.
As far as I understand it, it’s hard to remove a Liars Party PM since Grudd changed the rules. However, it’s not impossible. My understanding is that 75% of the caucus would need to vote in favor of opening the ballot, which then requires 50% plus one to win.
The other consideration would be if the Albanian resigned. This is a low probability, but I don’t think it’s zero if the polls show him losing.

Because he’s been in Parliament since 1996, Albanese would leave with a fairly substantial lifetime pension. He’s grandfathered into the older, more generous pension scheme, which essentially guarantees him around $400,000 annually, indexed to inflation.

Watched that a few days ago. Sheep’s back and all that. The issue of economic complexity is very concerning because we are way down on the list. Australia has never sufficiently invested in its intellectual, technological, and entrepreneurial capital, the net result being the best and brightest too often went overseas to fulfil their projects and dreams. Australia is a striking example of what happens when a country takes comparative advantage as an absolutist stance. It will take decades to recover from this.

Defence Force chief torpedoes PM’s version of events

He thinks he can, but Anthony Albanese’s little engine is tanking

Anthony Albanese on Tuesday. Picture: NewsWire / Nikki Short

Anthony Albanese’s election train has left the station and Labor MPs believe there is no turning back, amid fears that waiting until May could deliver Peter Dutton the keys to The Lodge.

As the Prime Minister plays an exclusively defensive game trying to save the furniture, there are growing concerns in government ranks that Labor is on track for a disastrous election result fuelled by their leader’s poor decision-making.

Albanese has shown limited agility or populist instinct to turn the ship around when things get tough. And things have been very tough for Labor since the 61-year-old’s doomed Indigenous voice referendum in October 2023.

The situation is dire when Labor figures struggle to name seats around the country they can win and only seats they will likely lose. Despite low morale and polls indicating a minority government for Labor or the Coalition, the Prime Minister continues to project the view that Labor can win majority government.

Albanese is struggling to cut through in selling Labor’s childcare, Medicare and economic policies. Even trying to buy himself out of trouble with tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded announcements since January hasn’t worked.

Dutton’s decision to immediately match Labor’s $8.5bn Medicare pledge (intended as a centrepiece of Albanese’s re-election campaign), the government’s failure to secure a bounce from last week’s rate cut, and China’s intimidatory naval exercises have forced an early activation of the ALP “dirt unit”.

With policy, economic narrative and bucketloads of cash not working, Labor has fallen back on its “get Dutton” plan. All sides of politics have dirt units. But it is almost unheard of for the major parties to dish dirt before an election is called. Surely, if you’re going to run a full-court press attacking Dutton, you would wait until the first week of the campaign?

Dutton, who could have blown up about the personal hit jobs targeting his finances, was purposefully calm as he addressed the issues on Wednesday, determined not to take the bait and show voters he remains focused.

It was another backfire for the ALP, with Dutton using the moment to talk up his life story as he wooed voters in the marginal Labor-held seat of Parramatta.

“The Prime Minister’s Office is shopping around dirt sheets at the moment. I have conducted myself with integrity at every moment of my life, including as a police officer, and since I’ve been in politics. If the Prime Minister has some claim to make, don’t get his lackeys to push it out there, get up and make the claim yourself. I think it reflects poorly on the Prime Minister and the desperation that he’s in at the moment.”

Albanese also set Coalition tongues wagging on Wednesday after he turned-up in Sam Rae’s notionally safe Melbourne seat of Hawke, held on a 7.6 per cent margin. The seat is close to the state electorate of Werribee, which Victorian Labor came within a whisker of losing earlier this month. Labor predictions that Victorians would automatically reject Dutton and the Liberals may be proven wildly wrong on election day.

Is the green new shit over yet?
Can they finally wake up and admit it wasn’t anything other than an attempt to hobble industry and defence of nation states?
Why?
Because the internationalists, the communists, the globalists, despise the nation state as the biggest block to their ideal: the exercise of unaccountable power.

The unaccountable exercise of power, and as we now know, here in 2025, the systematic movement of wealth and savings from the citizens and institutions of the nation state to shadowy and corrupt parasitical networks.

Well done james Paterson in questioning Defence in the Senate & calling Albanese out for lying re the “notification” of the Chinese live fire exercise. BTW after watching the TV analysis of our submarine exercises and capability, it doesn’t put our coastal surveillance in a very good light.

I despair. The late Jim Molan predicted virtually all of this in his prescient book “Danger on our Doorstep”. I read it when it was released during the Covid years. Husband was in hospital and I stayed up all virtually all night reading it. It was an astonishing and terrifying prediction. No one that I know has bothered to read it. We are a stupid, self satisfied nation, and we will pay the price.

Incidentally, around about the same time Clive Hamilton published his book “Hidden Hand” and Peter Hartcher also published “Red Zone”. Both are very committed Lefties, but can clearly see the long term aims of China , and have detailed (detailed) evidence of the Chinese methodology and their infiltration of all levels of western society.

Who damn listens? Neither The Left nor the Right…..nor educated Australians. Lotus eaters …all of us.

I think a lot of people have become increasingly worried about China, Vicki, even though they may not have read up on it. There has been enough general chatter and some good analysis in the Spectator, Quadrant, The Australian, The Telegraph and of course on Sky After Dark for people who are not lefties, and anyone with eyes to see, to sniff the terrible winds coming our way. This latest display by China hasn’t gone by unnoticed by voters. Nor has Albanese’s weakness in the face of it, and also in the face of Muslim anti-semitic behaviours and attitudes.

If we vote Labor back in your observations will have been correct, but I and lots of others will be out there on election day working to avert that disaster. Trump has hired Erin Molan, so perhaps he too has a weather eye out over our waters. China in them will not suit his purpose.

Husband and I went to hear James Paterson at the Sydney Institute a week or so ago. He is very impressive. I asked him why our security and intelligent agencies are not forthcoming publicly on the anti-Semitic dangers. It is good to see that they have been forthcoming in the last week – albeit Pezullo, who is no longer in a position of authority in Home Affairs, and Burgess who I suspect is hamstring in ASIO. But it is something at last.

I am trying to keep hopeful politically, but family takes precedence. Yesterday was a bad day for my 15 year old grandson. His mother is having fairly dire chemo for Ca Breast, and the GP had diagnosed this boy with ‘scoliosis’, seemingly mild. But this diagnosis was wrong.. The specialists at the kids hospital where I had to take him yesterday in place of his mother diagnosed it as ‘severe’ and say it will get very much worse unless operated on very soon (six months waiting list as it is). It looks bad enough already on the hospital’s new x-rays taken yesterday as we waited, a totally out of alignment spine with two huge bends in it. 52 degrees out. Operation has to be on his lower back to releive and reduce further upper back torsion. The trade off is that it will reduce some flexibility. Without it he will become what was once called ‘a hunchback’ as he grows into adulthood. I believe Richard the Third was similar, I say later to Hairy, which explains how he was still made king, before it was too obvious.

My admirable grandson is super bright but has autism, which makes it harder for him to cope. He was so brave, with silent tears occasionally, asking intelligent questions in the face of a devastating prognosis. He also has a heart murmur which is of some concern. That’s so much for any already tall and lanky teenager to have to handle. He’s worried enough already about his mother and what will happen to him if he’s left with only his father, my oldest son who lives elsewhere, to care for him, as his father is also rather scatty with late-diagnosed autism himself. However, his father was there with me too yesterday and did act creditably. He’s on a health kick that would please Robert Kennedy Jr. and it does seem to be helping with his autistic tendencies. We’re old, but Hairy (who drove us around yesterday) and I will be there for this brave teen whenever he needs us and tell him so.

We bought him his heart’s desire with a great big load of KFC on the way home after five hours in the hospital, crowded these days by immigrants with sick and disabled kids as well as a sprinkling of locals. You see some sad cases there. I had some KFC myself. Tasty and welcome at day’s end as a snack when we discussed the prognosis with the boy’s mother and assured her of our on going presence and help.

Like parenthood, grandparenthood never ends.

Nana can sit down here, says the doc as we enter. It’s grandma for me, but it would have been churlish to correct him on that.

So very sorry to hear that, Lizzie. It makes our own family problems so very minor.

I’m staying hopeful, Vicki. We have to persuade him to have the op though maybe pay privately for a second opinion before a final decision is made. I also have a lot of online searching to do re this prognosis.

Meanwhile we’re paying for some invisiline orthodontics. On top of his other problems, this teen doesn’t need two crossed front teeth to handle while going through teenage angsts about girls etc.

The two specialist docs were very nice, bluntly honest, but also saying to him that so far even though they detect the spinal shift (it is so very obvious when he bends over) and his ‘pigeon chest’, and his slight lop-sidedness in his shoulders, it isn’t obvious to anyone else yet. Your gait is good, they tell him encouragingly, and if we can stop the torsion then you won’t be noticably different to others.

They are firm that it is far too late to consider any sort of spinal brace. A blessing really, as he would hate that due to his autistic sensory problems.

Excellent news…… BOOOOONIE!!!!!

Tasmanian Boon, whose 7422 runs in 107 Tests included 21 centuries, will join the CA board on March 28 to fill the vacancy left by Paul Green.
After a six-year stint as Cricket Tasmania’s representative on the CA board, Green has stepped down.
CA chairman Mike Baird said Boon, who also scored 5964 runs in 181 one-day internationals, would bring “vast experience as a player and cricket administrator” to the board.
