As producer, Baldwin might be subject to civil litigation, but unlikely to be criminal.
As producer.
As the actor discharging the shot, who knows?
Thanks for the advice. I didn’t know.
Have I pretended have I? Or was it in some movie where I pretended these are vaxes developed just after the civil war?
Given the risk that people in my circumstances may not be allowed to leave this police state diktatorship, or be accepted into another slightly-less-repressive police state diktatorship, I’d be very interested to hear thoughts about where one can find rural Australian property along the following lines:
1. A climate (including enough rain) that allows consistently productive home vegetable gardening
2. Within an hour or so of a full-sized Woollies or Coles
3. Not yet completely overpriced (this eliminates, for example, Bright and Canungra)
4. Bonus points for places fit for those of a cultured northern European disposition

The point is, that pointing of guns at people/cameras has been integral to the fillem industry for ever.
I don’t see anyone being convicted for that alone in the absence of other evidence of intent or negligence.
Although, I did just watch the final scene of Dirty Harry (where he despatches the crook in an abandoned quarry).
It uses cleverly constructed cut-away shots, and never at any stage is a gun pointed at another actor.
And it is cleverly done because I remember it as being a composite scene with both actors in shot.

Woman who supplied Alec Baldwin gun was a film novice
The young woman was on her second job overseeing the weapons on a film set when she placed three prop firearms on a cart outside a bare wooden church, where Alec Baldwin was to rehearse a gunfight.
Hannah Reed had apprenticed under her father, a quick draw specialist and a renowned figure in Hollywood, and she served for the first time as head armourer last month in Montana on the set of a western starring Nicolas Cage.
“I was really nervous at first and I almost didn’t take the job because I wasn’t sure if I was ready, but doing it, it went really smoothly,” she said on a podcast last month. “It was a really badass way to start a really long and cool career, I’m hoping.”
Reed is at the centre of the investigation into a fatal accident that has stunned Hollywood. On Thursday a gun Baldwin was holding on the set of the film Rust discharged and killed a cinematographer. Court documents identified Reed, 24, as the person who put the weapon on a cart outside the church.
A detective, Joel Cano, wrote in an affidavit filed with a local magistrate’s court that Dave Halls, the film’s assistant director, grabbed the gun from the cart and brought it into the church. “Cold gun!” he shouted, handing it to Baldwin.
It was day 12 of a planned three-week shoot at Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico, which boasts an old western town built in the 1980s, framed by cottonwoods and dusty mountains. Inside the church Halyna Hutchins, an admired cinematographer, was leaning over the shoulder of a camera operator to examine the monitor while Joel Souza, the film’s director, crouched behind her, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Once they had lined up the shot, they could retreat to another area of the set and view it remotely. But they were still rehearsing. The shout of “cold gun” was supposed to indicate that the weapon Baldwin was wielding contained no live ammunition. Neither Halls nor the actor knew that it was loaded. Baldwin drew the weapon from his holster once without incident but the second time something shot from the gun, missing the camera operator but striking Hutchins and then hitting Souza. Hutchins, 42, a mother of one, died.
The detective’s affidavit requested a warrant to search the church, and raised the prospect that the incident might have been filmed. Cano sought to “confirm if the incident that took place was or wasn’t recorded”. He wished to examine any cameras, film or digital memory cards. Baldwin had been wearing “Old Western style” clothes and they were wanted too. The costume “appeared to have bloodstains”, Cano added. A magistrate quickly granted the request.
Cano identified the film’s armourer as Hannah Gutierrez, using Reed’s mother’s name, under which she worked briefly as a model. She is the daughter of Thell Reed, who made his name in shooting contests and became a stuntman, adviser to film stars and armourer on sets.
Appearing last month on the podcast Voices of the West, Hannah Reed recalled being pulled out of school at the age of 11 to join her father on the set of the Russell Crowe film 3.10 to Yuma. She recalled “running around with a plastic gun, going like, ‘Give me your pistachios’, you know?” she said. “That one time that I went out to set when I was younger just made me think: ‘I want to do movies when I’m older.’”
She considered acting or camera work and served briefly as a production assistant on the Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon A Time … In Hollywood, where “my job was just to fight crackheads to keep them out of the shot”, before deciding on a career as an armourer and apprentice under her father. “I tried it with Dad one time and I noticed I had a real natural knack for it, growing up with guns my whole life,” she said. “He took me from being completely green and taught me everything I know so far.” She added: “I think loading blanks was the scariest thing to me, because I was like: ‘Oh, I don’t know anything about it.’ But he taught me that.”
Reed took the spent casing out of the gun after the accident, according to the affidavit. Police secured the weapon, the cart from which it had been taken, a belt and some additional ammunition.
The shoot appears to have been beset by problems before the accident on Thursday afternoon. A weapon had misfired a few days earlier, according to the online news site Deadline. “A gun had two misfires in a closed cabin,” the source said. “They just fired loud pops – a person was just holding it in their hands and it went off.”
Hours before Hutchins was killed, seven crew members had walked off the set in protest over the conditions. Until last week their union had been threatening a strike, amid industry-wide complaints from film crews at the long shifts and the expectation that while actors were put up locally, crew members would frequently face a long drive afterwards and the danger of falling asleep at the wheel. On the Rust set, the film crew had expected accommodation in nearby Santa Fe but found themselves driving to Albuquerque, 50 miles to the south.
“We cited everything from lack of payment for three weeks, taking our hotels away despite asking for them in our deals, lack of Covid safety, and on top of that, poor gun safety! Poor on-set safety period!” a crew member wrote on a private Facebook page, according to Deadline. When they downed tools, producers “brought in four non-union guys to replace us and tried calling the cops on us”.
“Corners were being cut,” a crew member told the Los Angeles Times.
Rust Movie Productions LLC has said it will conduct a review of its procedures and “offer mental health services to the cast and crew during this tragic time”.
The film was to be a relatively low-budget affair. Baldwin, who has never strayed far from the national consciousness, first made his name as a soap actor and then made the jump to film, starring in The Hunt for Red October and working with the film directors Martin Scorsese and Woody Allen and with Tina Fey in the comedy series 30 Rock. In New York he was known for run-ins with photographers and with the New York Post; more recently his slurring, pursed-lipped impression of Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live had won him widespread acclaim, along with the fury of the former president and his supporters.
News that he had been involved in a fatal accident prompted some of these detractors to jeer on Twitter. The Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert reposted an old tweet from Baldwin about making T-shirts bearing the call of protesters against police killings: “Hands Up – Don’t Shoot.” “Are these still available?” she asked, in a tweet directed at the actor. “Asking for a movie producer.” She claimed that Baldwin and others wanted to take away American gun rights “while knowing nothing about basic gun safety. Alec’s careless and ignorant actions killed a woman. If this was a conservative celebrity you’d be calling for his head.”
Baldwin was not known for westerns but he had been drawn in by Souza’s script for Rust, which told the story of an accidental shooting, a boy charged with murder and his grandfather, played by Baldwin, a fugitive who emerges from hiding to try to save the child from the gallows. “I’m an actor of the old school,” he told The Hollywood Reporter before filming began. “So if you read my resume, my motorcycle riding, my French, juggling, my horseback riding, my gunplay, is all right at my fingertips at all times.”
Scott Rasmussen, an armourer based in New Mexico, said he had been in talks with the film company to work on the project, but eventually went to work on another shoot. “It hurts me greatly when something like this happens,” said Rasmussen, 62, who is the brother-in-law of the Duchess of Sussex. “In my opinion it could have been avoided.”
Gun safety protocols on sets were tightened following the death of the actor Brandon Lee, who was killed by a bullet left in a prop gun in 1993. But Steven Hall, a director of photography in Britain, noted that the riskiest place on a set was often behind a camera, because the actor drawing a gun is often facing directly into the lens.
A representative for Lee’s sister Shannon said in a statement that she and her family were “sick to their stomachs that this type of thing is still happening on film sets. No one should ever be killed by a gun on a set and stricter safety regulations need to be implemented and should have been implemented twenty years ago.” The representative added that “her heart goes out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and all others involved in this tragedy”.
Hutchins was born in Ukraine and began her career working on British documentaries before coming to America and enrolling in a prestigious film school. Stas Bondarenko, a fellow cinematographer who was there too, and also grew up in the Soviet Union, told the magazine Variety that he recalled her calling him by a Russian diminutive of his first name “that no one other than my mother has used in years” when they worked together on film sets. He remembered her “taking on incredibly ambitious projects with very limited student resources, and somehow always knocking it out of the park”. By 2019 she had been named a “rising star” by American Cinematographer magazine.
On Thursday she was behind the camera as Baldwin rehearsed the gunfight scene, which was said to involve him drawing his weapon and backing out of the church. In an emergency call from the set, obtained by the website TMZ, a frantic script supervisor told a dispatcher that “we have two people accidentally shot on a movie set by a prop gun”. Moments later the supervisor can be heard shouting something about another member of the crew who “was supposed to check the guns”, adding: “He’s responsible for what happened.” The script supervisor said: “We were rehearsing and it went off, and I ran out, we all ran out.”
A colleague to whom she passed the phone told the operator that the director and the cinematographer were still alert and were being treated by a medic on set. Hutchins was said to have died on the way to hospital.
Souza said he was “gutted by the loss of my friend and colleague Halyna. She was kind, vibrant, incredibly talented, fought for every inch and always pushed me to be better.”
As tributes were paid by friends and colleagues, her husband, Matthew, with whom she had an eight-year-old son, told Insider: “I don’t think there are words to communicate the situation.”

Well, me refusing the offer of a vaccine passport means I can no longer shop for clothes or hardware or fabric or even a light globe not stocked in supermarkets. I am no longer allowed to play competitive tennis with my friends, or go to pilates, or sing, or tap dance, or go to church, or socialise in a restaurant. I’m not permitted to see or speak to two of my children or my grandchildren. Just a conspiracy theory, right?

Lots of Should Be Closed and Not Alloweds being thrown about. From the very same morons who happily accept their mail delivery from AusPost employees who are exempt from the mandates. Logic fail, but definitely not a conspiracy theory.
If you cannot see the Orwellian mplications immediately apparent in such newly created institutions as the Trusted Digital Identity Bill, the Centre for Human Resiliance, the Vaccine Economy or the Safe Schools Program then it must just be hysterical overreach by the conspiracy theorists.

Odd how no one really wants to address any of the the root causes.
Sadly, I don’t think the actor in question would know what he was looking at.
Being a revolver, it would have been loaded with something, because eagle-eyed gun enthusiasts in the cinema will quickly point out that all the visible chambers are empty, but the next scene shows him firing six shots at the enemy.
I was talking about the possibility of criminal charges, not prudent gun handling practice.
The best you can get out of it is a charge with “careless” in the wording.
Even then, Baldwin’s lawyers will argue that he, inexperienced in guns as he is, was entitled to rely upon the expertise of the amourer and assistant director.
And that will fly if it ever gets to court.
Where this gets a bit circular is that, with his producer’s hat on, he is partially responsible for the recruitment of these “specialists”.
But again, that will be a civil matter, not criminal.
Can’t see it on the Binance charts. New ATH this last week, up 110% ytd.
Baldwin aimed a gun at a person and pulled the trigger. They died.

That part of the country is definitely in sight. I know the demographic downsides, but apart from that it fits the bill.
Orange comes well recommended although, oddly enough, I’ve not yet been, despite having visited virtually every town of notice nearby. Boorowa’s charming. Young I once visited for a long weekend; very friendly folks, great for growing stuff. I don’t really want to be back near Canberra, but these are worthy candidates for the list.
Yes, if this happens during a party in someone’s garage.
But when it is part of a movie and the actor is directed to do something, he has a fair bit of legal protection, because the armourer and assistant director (supposed experts) are there to ensure this doesn’t happen.
His greatest defence would ironically be the fact that he apparently knows fuck all about guns.
And, yeah, there is a certain amount of schaden-boner over a pompous git like Baldwin being involved, but there is a long way to go before he cops any serious criminal charge.
No. He just demonstrated that the left aren’t worthy of the trust I’d offer a 12 year old.

Should be a great movie to be made of the frothing at the mouth Trump hater Baldwin.
I hate guns.
I voted for Trump.
Bang your dead.
Whoops I know nothing about guns.
Baldwin likely won’t be charged for one reason: The name “Baldwin”
Anybody else who pulls a trigger & has random people die in front of their gun barrel, is almost guaranteed a booking at the ironbar motel.
We’ll see Sancho. There is a tortuous leftist path to trial to be negotiated first.
I never mentioned murder as that implies intent, which I have no evidence of. I just see a body dead via a projectile fired from a gun in Baldwin’s hand, one which requires manually cocking and manual trigger pull.
I’m going to stand on manslaughter as that only requires Baldwin causing her death.
What he eventually gets charged with or convicted of is anyones guess, but I’ll note the incident occurred in a leftist state.

If the assistant director did, in fact call “cold gun”, that sort of cuts against the hypothetical “being warned against doing so”.
The assistant director has effectively told him the weapon is safe.
The assistant director didn’t aim the weapon at a human being and pull the trigger.

Absolutely not. It’s the other way around. Have a look at some of the things linked here day after day showing years, even decades, of preparations. This is just one. It couldn’t be clearer that the virus was brought in to create the crisis to enable the surveillance state.
Would I be allowed to point a “prop” gun at Baldwin on a movie set????
Fillems are about illusion.
And actors are people who are good at pretending they are something that they are not.
The post by Bruce (a former fillem armourer) at around 9:00 am yesterday is an eye-opener.
OK.
So Baldwin should have checked the weapon.
What is he looking for?
Seeing as how we have a gun-savvy cinema going public out there, and it is a revolver, at least four chambers are likely to be visible from both the front and the rear of the weapon.
These will be loaded with some sort of dummy round for appearances (a brass casing with a dummy bullet, but no primer or charge).
How does the actor (the pretending guy) establish that there is no primer or charge in the sealed round? *
Does he know whether the hammer comes down on the chamber already lined up?
Or does the cocking action rotate it one chamber clockwise?
Or counter clockwise?
Who knows?
He doesn’t.
He just assumes the armourer has done her job.
.
* if I was the armourer, I would drill out these casings from the side. Nothing to see from either end when it is in the chamber, but a simple visual check when loading tells you it is harmless.
Trouble is, some scenes like to show the loading and re-loading, so …
On the other hand, shooting someone dead is reality.

ESG compliance for the investment committees ?
Well, that was my point.
Two very separate issues.
Baldwin the producer will be in a world of pain from civil litigation.
But I am struggling to see Baldwin the actor facing criminal charges in the circumstances.
As I say, if these were just two fuckwits waving a gun around in their lounge room on a Saturday night and it goes off, that is a problem.
But it seems Baldwin was being directed in a scene where he draws the gun as a defensive measure, points it at camera, and backs out of the little church (see TE’s link above).
It doesn’t seem that the scene called for a discharge of any sort, so the weapon should have been completely inert.
And apparently this was what he was told.
Perhaps good practice dictates a double check, but I am not seeing criminal charges for him.
Repost because it’s a good one.
So as the leader of this drug network I hand all my street soldiers firearms and tell them they are not loaded with real bullets. That way, when they point them at people, pull the trigger, and kill them, they can just say someone else who gave them gun told them it was safe. It means they can’t be charged with murder. It’s called the Alec Baldwin Defense. For years we have been looking for a way to get away with murder and it has been staring us in the face the whole time. Just say someone told you the gun in your hand was safe! That’s all you have to do and you get away clean. No reasonable prosecutor would bring charges against you.
will at 4:14.
Faaasrrrrk!
I am getting a picture here.
Assistant director rocks up to the armourer’s cart and looks at the three weapons laid out.
“I need the cold gun for the church scene”
She (without looking up from her Insta feed) : “It’s the one on the right.”
(Long pause)
BANG!
She looks at the cart: “Fuck! FUCK! My right. Not your right! Fuck!!!”
Other than that little issue of him pulling a trigger that killed someone? Yeah, he’s cool.
I mean he’s a famous actor and all that.
Will! They employed her as the armourer?
Who was responsible for that idiocy I wonder.
How the fuck is Hunchback going to hold on to his ridiculous fucking rules?
Those rules won’t hold. Does Premier Pig honestly believe businesses starved for cash flow over almost two years are going to value easily forged vaxx stiffgates (apologies to Mo) over cash folding money?
As to the bastard’s black-clad compliance inspectors, a banana up the tailpipe works wonders to limit mobility.
I am trying not to let my personal feelings about Baldwin (an undoubted flog) interfere with what a DA is likely to do regarding charges.
And I say that whether it was a “star” or a nobody stuntman.
Vice Producer Baldwin perhaps?
I’m struggling to conceptualise a credible scenario in which a loaded firearm was laying around a movie set.
Anyone able to help?
I don’t think so either.
His “out” will be that Dom Perrottet ’96 has made Hunchback’s sensible rules unworkable.
How about the kiddies were out playing earlier shooting live rounds into an embankment for ‘familiarization’ and they weren’t all properly secured after?
Quite.
Mentioned it yesterday.
My inner Hercule Poirot was most puzzled. 😀
Will’s link at 4:14 might provide some clues.
I lived in Orange as a kid and went back in 2019 for a quick visit, it’s grown a bit but still retains its country charm. Cold winters, so a house with good insulation and heating is a must. Agriculture has changed since I was a kid, it was predominantly cherry and apple orchards but now there’s a lot of vineyards and diverse horticulture. The food scene is very big now, with lots of restaurants featuring local produce. Mining is also big part of the local economy but not very intrusive as the big Cadia mine is out of the way.
Boorowa and Young are close enough to Canberra to enjoy the benefits of big city shopping and services but far enough away for the city not to be daily influence on life. They are still rural places.
A distinct possibility.
But, again, that would be the armourer’s responsibility to retrieve, clear and store all weapons.
If she wasn’t a complete fucking airhead, that is.
Not judging competence by appearance just took a big hit.
I’m not getting this whole “hot gun” thingy. I would have assumed that on a movie set most things would be fake (especially a gun). Wouldn’t the sound and visual effects dudes fix up this sort of stuff during the editing?
How many “armorers” worked on “Saving Private Ryan”? These people must be everywhere.
I’m obviously oblivious as to how this all works. I’ve got a replica “Police Special” handgun in the cupboard. Looks absolutely real, but you load it with a gas pellet. It sounds like a shot gun when you pull the trigger. It has an attachment that you can put a flare into.
I must be missing something here? Long and short of my question is, why don’t they just use “fake guns”?
My byzantine imagination, filled with the “Murder Most Horrid” plots of a dozen writers, came up with this…
Suppose you wanted to rid yourself of a horrid, oleaginous, overbearing “star”?
A sudden script change – let’s have him try out the “accidental shooting” on…himself.
Bother. He did a quick dress rehearsal on the cameraperson.
Maybe next time…. Mwahahahaha!
No. Too many “what ifs”. Next opportunity just hit him with a shovel.
The Assistant Director who handed the gun to Baldwin must be sweating bullets right about now.
I wouldn’t like to be in their shoes.
Mr. Baldwin is going to require a fall guy.
When employing…anyone.
Check soshul meeja.
Hmmmmm. Next!
You’d be a crackhead to believe this.
*Just a quick chat*
Unquestionably, and the lawsuits are going to eat her alive.
But Baldwin accepted the weapon, aimed it at a human being, pulled the trigger and killed her.
Worlds apart.
But the courts will deal with both long after we have forgotten the incident.
She’s not exactly oozing gravitas or conservatism.
Both are comforting to have in an armourer.
The number one defence is not able to be used: “Never mind your bigoted view of her appearance, nothing goes wrong on her watch”
Umm … what does this trigger thingy do?

I notice that the term “prop gun” is trending on news items surrounding the death.
No. Sorry MSM. It wasn’t a “prop gun”. It was a gun. A Colt revolver. And a poor young woman died because it was mishandled by a series of halfwits.
About the best summary, so far. Well said.
Baldwin’s past boasts of knowing more about gun safety than NRL dickheads is not going to assist him to retain his ‘social licence’
I dunno if it’s true as it was told me . According to the “teller” Baldwin posted a tweet years ago severely criticising a cop who was implicated in a wrongful shooting death accusation. Wow , if true.

Yep, I wanted to kill someone too.
But I wasn’t a star.
Lol, his Twitter feed is a gold mine of such stuff.
He’s had plenty to say on the topic, including lotsa sneering at ‘accidental’ gun homicide.
& yep, quite vitriolic toward anyone who had a gun in their hand when someone died.
Baldwin and others may face charges of reckless manslaughter. The gun was capable of firing live rounds as well different types of blanks which have powder but no bullet or cartridges with bullets but no powder. A person has died and another injured; that is a homicide situation. There is a prima facie case for liability. Even if one person had responsibility for the safety of the guns on set, which is unlikely, as producer Baldwin will have a vicarious responsibility; since he was also the shooter that responsibility may be more personal.
Refer Bruce’s post at around 9:00 am yesterday.
The trouble is, the US is chockful of people who think they know all about guns.

We used a lot of weapons in The Borella Ride – for example here you can see a rider with a long arm carried in his horse. We also had machinegun and a number of other firearms with us.
We also, for the DVD, filmed in Belgium and France using weapons, and had a live fire sequence where WWI weapons were explained. (I was the weapons firer for that sequence.)
We had an armourer with us and he was the offscreen expert, and handed firearms over as necessary, and then took them away and locked them up. But then again, there was a degree of training for the onscreen personnel necessary, and they had to keep certain standards. For example, clearing the weapon when it was handed over, and not pointing it at anyone. We also didn’t allow people to handle the weapons, with the exception of the machinegun, which was a Browning on a tripod. Most blokes found it irresistible.
Of course, yesterday I texted the director and asked him to note he had not been shot in the filming. He didn’t seem to think it that funny.
Perversely, that would be a plank of any defence Baldwin might be asked to mount.
“I had no idea how the thing worked. I relied upon the experts”.
Yea OSC, Bern explained the vehicle was a SPAC. These are listed special purpose vehicles of which I’ve never understood the purpose… although they’re called special purpose….. The only thing I can figure about these creatures is that they’re used by large well known investors/ hedge fund dudes selling the idea they will use the money in these special purpose vehicles for special opportunities requiring fast acting investment decisions. Perhaps Bern can add or correct my assumptions. I wouldn’t trust them and on top of that you’re paying fees to the manager while the cashola is just sitting around.
Thanks, all, for insights on suitable rural locations in Australia. Very happy to hear any other suggestions, too.
(I will be finding a way to visit Orange, somehow.)
Here’s a link to Bruce’s excellent forensic post as an actual set armourer.
Two things here.
Yes, that is true. In New Mexico, you’d expect a bit more gun savvy, but maybe not. It isn’t the wild west any more. The lass looks like she’d fit right in in Albuquerque. Roswell might be a little too unkind.
On the second, sure. But movies are filled with bloopers. No one, except the seriously deranged, gives a sh*t. Normal punters want entertainment, not a ballistics lesson. On a budget film, firearms trickery won’t matter.
I was fascinated by Bruce the Lurker’s comment. From a prop professional’s point of view, what happened couldn’t have happened apart from extreme mishandling and negligence.
A weapon is not safe until the person holding it has satisfied themselves that it is. End of story.
If the person holding the gun does not know how to do so , they are shown not told that it is safe, and that happens only once, when they are taught how to determine the gun is safe.
BHL, have a look at the Riverina too.
Wagga is the hub, but there are some absolutely stunning small towns around. Have a look at the edges of the Snowy. Tumut for example. It’s beautiful.
This opens the door for his extensive past public commentary to be mentioned.
He has claimed quite some knowledge of guns.
Presumably the alpha variant was the first cab off the rank, right? Dover, leave aside what Pfizer said here in Australia as I really have no clue. What’s important is what they said in the US because that’s where it counts if they lied. I presume the FDA was closely monitoring their trials – obviously these trials weren’t the regular style, but I never heard anything to suggest Pfizer lied. I don’t care about Australia because no one gives a shit what our health authorities say and do because essentially they just rubber stamp what the FDA says.
Neither the lass nor Baldwin have anything to do with New Mexico except they were there on location to shoot a film.
That’s about the nub of it.
Still no clear answer to the question I asked yesterday:
Where was the armourer who actually had responsibility for the gun and ammunition?
Apparently several of the crew have spoken of the Colt previously “misfiring” on or around the set.
Zatara, I had to weave Albuquerque and Roswell in somehow! 😀
Zat, Santa Fe is a real leftwing haven, right?
The armourer is 24.
This was her second job.
Daddy was also a fillem armourer.
Presumably the girl didn’t own an inventory of weapons herself.
Did she source the weapons from Daddy?
Oh, and daddy was also involved in the “quick draw” competition scene.
From what I can glean from reading about “quick draw” weapons, the hammer/trigger/firing pin mechanisms and springs are heavily modified to allow for a “smoother action”.
Hmmmm.
Firstly, who cares? At least someone wouldn’t be dead.
Secondly, you would cut production costs because you wouldn’t have to employ these “armorer” people (of which there must be hoards).
Thirdly, since when were humans unable to make forgeries that fool even the best experts? It’s been happening since the dawn of time (currency, artefacts and so on). Is it beyond Hollywood’s capabilities?
It’s all just a bit bizarre. I was really surprised when I read the story. Like WTF?
Ps. Great business opportunity for someone there if they can make “fake weapons”. Considering what’s happened, the Government is likely to mandate it.
PPS. Why hasn’t this happened on a film shoot before? Or has it? How many movies have you watched where people are “shooting shit up” all over the place. It’s all just really weird.
Which, in court, will be dismissed as poorly informed advocacy.
If charged, his lawyers will make him eat some humble pie to suit the defence narrative.
Calli, try Taos for a real taste of NM. Angle Fire, Eagle Nest, etc.
The govt yes. Not the locals.
Imagine that.
Batlow is better.
Why would they suddenly give a hoot about firearm realism?
The US (& the world) is full of people who work cattle.
This does not prevent a movie from having a ‘trail herd’ change breeds halfway through a cattle drive, or a herd of cows to start a new ranch actually being 7-yo steers. etc etc.
BoN, I’ve just finished Hogan’s Voyage from Yesteryear, which was well written and fun. The idea of the Chironian culture I found implausible. If they had all been recruited from the physical sciences, then just maybe, because they all behaved the way honest scientists do. But as a genetic mix, no, it’s unbelievable. The awful truth about human beans is that the majority are natural slaves, with a need to be told what to do, think and feel; they form their opinions and beliefs by copying their neighbours. And a complementary uncongenial truth is that some suffer from extreme power hunger. This isn’t a cultural thing, it’s in human nature. In different cultures it expresses itself in different ways, but it’s recognisably the
same urge.
All the Chironians were sane, intelligent individuals with no collectivist impulses. You can have an individualistic society for a while, we had one in the West, but there’s always those who don’t like it, don’t want it, don’t fit in and who will destroy it if they can. That’s what is going on around us.
So I couldn’t buy the premiss. I’d say it was wishful thinking and a hope that the end of the present era is nigh. Yet another thing I’d like to believe but can’t.
Mr. Baldwin is going to be eating shit in public for a loooong time. Heh.
Sydney’s woke quotient has risen noticeably.
Actress Julia Roberts arrives in Sydney ahead of shooting new romantic comedy (24 Oct)
She’s gone off to “private quarantine” escorted by plod.
I spent Halloween in NM, Zat. In a spooky old B&B run by lesbians.
A bit of unexpected holiday colour and part of life’s rich tapestry now denied to us by the Covidiots.
I do agree that a lot of the stuff in fillems seems unnecessary.
Example 1. The shower scene from Psycho. Apart from several shredded shower curtains, no-one came within cooee of being injured.
Knife strikes curtain.
Girl screaming.
Silhouette on shower screen.
More girl screaming.
More stabby on shower curtain.
Dark stain runs down drain.
All done with sharply edited cutaway shots.
Example 2. The final scene from Dirty Harry. I had convinced myself that Eastwood pointed a gun at the crook in that scene. A careful viewing of that scene shows that the two actors never appeared in the same shot together.
Good directors can create the illusion without any actual danger to anyone.
When I was a kid, we used to pick up an appropriately shaped stick, aimed and yelled “BANG”.
The intended target invariably yelled back “MISSED” and returned fire.
Life was much simpler back then.
Mr Integrity obtained the stock when the BAC management was frightened shitless around 2012 ish or so and asked Mr Integrity to buy in. He did his usual and took ~10% of the company with convertible bonds when the stock was trading at around 5 bucks.. I should say… trashed down to 5 bucks as the markets were panicked a new series of lawsuits by a government agency would ruin the bank. It was never going to go bust. Integrity diluted the shit out of shareholders.
The stock is now trading at $US47.50. He made Berkshire around $us42.5 billion, all for being Warren.
I’ll take a closer look along the Riverina, another area that I haven’t explored thoroughly enough. I know the Snowies reasonably well, but the most suitable places are a long, long drive to the nearest decent Woollies (which is my proxy for the availability of doctors, dentists, a decent hospital, etc). Tumut, I’ve stayed there, like it well. That one’s already on the list.
Good try!
Lol, as if we’re going to believe that!
Close border mate. You can’t fool us.
The gun that killed the cinematographer on the set of Alec Baldwin’s Rust had been used for target practice by crew members, sources linked to the western film’s production said.
Multiple sources connected to the set of Rust told TMZ that the same Colt pistol that went off in Alec Baldwin’s hands, killing Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza, had been used recreationally by crew members.
The sources claim that some crew members would go off for target practice using real bullets, and some believe a live round from those practice sessions found its way onto the set.
Another source told TMZ that live ammo and blanks were being stored in the same area on set, offering another possible explanation as to how a bullet was fired from Baldwin’s Colt.
Daily Mail US site
FDA HEARING ADMITS PFIZER VACCINE KILLS MORE PEOPLE THAN IT SAVES!!!
There is in law no relief for a person who points and fires a weapon at another person without personally confirming its status. No relief!
The armourer has no liability in relation to the death. He did not discharge the weapon. He is no doubt in default of his contract obligations and was probably negligent in not insisting that dickhead checked the weapon upon receipt.
I recall at Kapooka in the 90’s I think, after civilianisation of support services, the contractor mixed live and blank rounds in the unboxed ammo issued for minor tactics training. Fortunately the poor bloody recruits couldn’t shoot straight but a number of live rounds were discharged. I understand that the lawyers are still arguing about who goes to the gibbet.
The Contractor no longer hires casuals from the back bar of the Kapooka pub.
300,000+ of them have served in combat recently.
I’m guessing they might know a bit.
Diogenes:
BAM. So to speak.
And if they have little interest in learning how to handle a firearm, when you are an actor in a film purporting to be a bloke that knows how to handle a firearm, then they fuck off OR they fuck off and learn. Like all the other actors doing ‘research’ into their characters.
If it’s your show, then the debt is unequivocally on you.
I think Mr Baldwin the co-producer could be in a world of pain as far as civil suits go.
His acting career will no doubt take a hit, and obviously his anti-NRA advocacy is cooked.
But, again, I struggle to see Mr Baldwin the actor copping much more than a minor misdemeanor charge with a small suspended sentence, at the worst.
A dude that used to work for me lived in a dungeon around China town in New York. Right across the lane-way or whatever lived rising starlet , Julia Roberts who apparently shared the apartment and was always frolicking around in the nude. He got sick of it after a while.
Indeed. Crew statements about the weapon “misfiring” imply the gun had a hair trigger.
But that’s a separate issue from the bullet(s) it was loaded with.
A likely scenario is one or more people were using the gun for shooting practice around the ranch setting and nobody has actually checked it before it was brought back on set.
With a bit of luck James Woods is putting out tweets on ‘Shooter’ Baldwin right about now.
look who is an economist now
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s dire warning: ‘Hyperinflation’ will soon ‘change everything’
Thank You God!
Blessed with another Grandchild!
Everyone’s doing great!
I repeat.
The frothing at the mouth hate filled fuckhead Alec Baldwin picked up a gun and pointed at a human and pulled the trigger.
How fucked in the head do you have to be to do that???
Do the extremist left believe they have to fight ‘deplorables’???
I’m guessing he either owns or just bought a load of Bitcoin.
Roger.
That was what I was speculating about above.
The armourer is new to the game, so probably wouldn’t have her own gun inventory.
Her father was also a fillem armourer
Did he supply the guns.
Dad was also involved in the “quick draw” competition scene.
These guns are heavily modified to effectively lighten off the trigger and remove any “double action” safety action on the hammer.
Dad always used to count our fingers and toes before announcing a newborn.
Yes, DrB, but conformation to social imperatives is incredibly powerful force in society. Which we’re presently seeing with the vax Karens. The Chironians grew up with those social imperatives, not terrestrial ones. It’s a nice hypothetical ‘what if?’
So the idea of a society where social standing is based on respect, admiration and perceived industriousness in whichever personal field of choice seems to me plausible. Lately in our culture there’s been a rise in the admiration of tradies, for example. But the key thing in the Chironian culture is no money and no resource constraints whatsoever, which is the implication of highly advanced technology.
Been maybe a couple decades since I read that book, must do so again.
Sunday Mail exclusive is that 7 Nationals MPs are holding out for a change in Legislation to enable a Nuclear power industry.
Congrats USSR. Hope you don’t ruin the kid by trying to teach it about pizzagate.
Just kidding. Congrats.
The moral I draw from the Baldwin shooting is: Stay away from airheads. Actually, I do anyway. It might be catching.
He’s busily laying into Fauci, over ‘puppygate’ & the like.
And tweeting hand-by-hand updates of how he’s going in a poker tournament.
I very much doubt any nuclear power plant will be built in a rural electorate. Don’t you need a vast and reliable source of water?
The Act prohibits:
Construction and operation of a Nuclear Fuel Fabrication Plant
A Nuclear Power Plant
An Enrichment Facility
A reprocessing Facility.
In other words, at least 7 Nationals are happy to turn Australia into the new Kazakhstan.
More babies! It’s wonderful! Congratulations! [insert champagne glasses and party poppers here].
Now all I want to do is cuddle my own little darlings.
Thank God you showed up here, Ed. I was worried the place just wasn’t retarded enough. What 70s opinion do you have against nuke, Ed?
Yes, I think you are plausibly joining some dots here, Sancho.
Uh oh. It looks like fall out from m0nty closing off comments.
Alec Baldwin shooting victim is the wife of Clinton connected lawyer involved in the Durham indictment.
#thisisgettingweird
Maybe firearms and creative egos don’t mix.
Imagine trying to explain anything to Rusty Crowe (who thinks he assimilates all the best physical and intellectual characteristics of every character he plays).
Or that moron Mark Wahlberg, who was quoted as saying that, if he was on one of the 9/11 hijacked flights, “things would have worked out different”.
FMD.
all I could find:
1. Brandon Lee 1993
Lee, who was 28 at the time, was the son of the late martial-arts star Bruce Lee. He was killed after being hit by a .44-caliber slug while filming a death scene for the movie The Crow. The gun was supposed to have fired a blank, but an autopsy turned up a bullet lodged near his spine.
2. Jon-Erik Hexum
In 1984, the actor was killed on the set of the TV series Cover Up. Hexum accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun loaded with blanks. Hexum was struck in the right temple by a blank charge from the prop gun he was handling. The force of the bullet fractured his skull, according to a New York Times report from the time of the incident. This caused serious brain hemorrhaging and irreversible damage.
(I’m not counting Vic Morrow and the two children who were killed by a falling helicopter)
Sometimes I only need one dot and I’m away!
Who, the one who’s indicted?
Yeah, you do need a lot of water, but the idea is that there’ll be a tradeoff.
Accept Nuclear so you don’t have to keep shutting down the Beef and Coal Industries.
Sounds like madness trying to sell that in Blue Ribbon Liberal Electorates but Barnaby must think it’s a goer.
You people aren’t getting it.
To the left, guns are bad. Full stop.
It wasn’t Baldwin’s fault, it was the gun’s fault.
That’s why they want to ban guns.
Baldwin’s the victim here.
Same as Ted Kennedy was a victim of the evil’s of Oldsmobiles.
Airheads with guns in particular.
Bit hard to do in the American film “industry”, I would imagine.
This incident will fuel Baldwin as an anti- gun advocate.
He’ll probably do a public service announcement ad campaign.
Depends on what you mean by our culture. You and I have always respected competence, but don’t try to tell me the woke Karens do. It’s happening on the Çat, but we’re the counterculture.
I agree that if you’re brought up in a culture you accept its norms and values, up to a point. And you try to pass them on to your offspring. How successful you will be depends on a variety of things, among them the temperament of the offspring. If one of them is a morsl coward and a committed collectivist, he’ll copy those around him up to a point, but be quite lost when on his own, and averse to confronting unpleasant truths. So he won’t do a good job of transmitting individualism to his offspring.
You don’t want to overestimate nurture in the nature versus nurture debate. The Marxists did that, and they still haven’t learnt the error of their ways.
Not as much as you need a small and reliable supply of working grey matter.
Which is in shorter supply than water.
No idea. My sister just sent me a screenshot. It’s on Twitter, so it’s legit.
Another adverse reaction involving a fit 19 year-old girl coerced by her employer.
Mmmmkay.
Hi JC.
I don’t think the Liberal Party rank and file will buy a Nuclear future.
So where’s the votes coming from?
Scotty’s only got a 1 seat majority, no Labor voter is going to switch on the promise of a Nuke fabrication plant next to his favourite fishing spot.
😀
OMG, Ed turns on the tap and it won’t run. It will be dry because of the reactor.
It’s actually for that reason, you idiot. Not that I agree, but specifically nuke is to replace coal plants they want to rub out by a certain date.
It’s not the 70s Ed. Also, do they do crocheting at the retard academy you attend each day?
Don’t they all.
Lucky that those ‘solar’ panels don’t use nuclear… eh!
Hi Ed.
I do.
From the electorate.
Those days are gone Eddly. Ask yourself this. Other than closet heterosexual, Adam Bandt going nuts about the nuke subs, I didn’t even hear a whisper in the “electorate” you’re so worried about. Stay calm and continue with the crochet.
Good meme of Baldwin:
https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=396095152180166&set=g.560473527454945
The Hidden Agenda is that Australia must accept the entire Nuclear Fuel Cycle, from mining to fabrication of the fuel rods to enrichment to reprocessing.
No country in the world does that, so Labor will have a field day if it ever becomes Coalition Policy.
I’m guessing he either owns or just bought a load of Bitcoin.
Square, the other company he’s CEO of had a billion of crypto on the books when it bid for Afterpay.
Dunno what it’s worth now.
Dunno when they report their quarterly & will have to disclose.
Ed Case, tell me what you think of Fink bringing the nuclear stack into the ESG universe ?
DRB – I think the key assumption is the availability of everything required to live in great abundance, which technology is increasingly capable of providing (so long as the green-progs don’t prevent it).
Thus in a society where you can have gourmet meals and fine wines at the touch of a button, free to anyone at any time day or night, how do you measure human success and regard? That is the hypothesis behind the novel. A very interesting question since we have this last week the Left calling on people to “lower their expectations” because of stupid not-happening global warming. They seem to’ve recognized the threat that abundance is to their political model.
When all needs are filled humans still will want a way to establish social rank. Yet if abundance is the state of society there won’t be an incentive towards crime, so ‘dangerous men’ won’t have the same attractiveness as they do now, for example. Consequently craftsmanship would quite likely fill the hole that money and power now does. (Since power is about supplying the needs of supporters, which is no longer necessary in an abundant technological society.) It’s actually a very libertarian social model.
I like to think my ability with birds would be highly regarded on Chiron. 😀
Okay. That’s good right?
Wow, the US, Russia don’t mine for uranium, don’t fabricate the fuel rods and don’t do reprocessing?
Are you sure Ed?
Yea, I think the Liars will also be favor if they win the election.
So, how does America do it, Grigory?
Gypsum?
The best place to build a nuclear power plant is in a Greens/Labor electorate. That way there is no implication of Liberal politicians feathering their own electorates with funding.
#ICAC
Twitter can be useful at times. She’s a CNN anchor pretending she’s right wing.

so Labor will have a field day if it ever becomes Coalition Policy.
Breaking news, Labor is going to oppose a policy that was the only reason John Kerry was made Biden’s Climate Change envoy.
Not really a Nuclear Power issue since the USN isn’t letting the RAN have a look into the subs Nuclear Reactor compartment , so all work on it will be done in the U.S.
