‘Kim Potter…. first degree manslaughter’

Good indeed.

totally disagree, this is an appalling travesty; she was dealing with a crim wanted for firearm offences, who was uncooperative, who dived back in his car where he may have a firearm handy. He was a clear threat to her life, and she took action. I don’t care what weapon she used, she did not have the strength to restrain the crim, and he was a mortal threat.

There are enough cases of traffic stops where the prep get back in the car only to produce a firearm and shoot the copper dead.

If she’d shot the crook and meant to shoot the crook, then fair enough for the reasons you mentioned.

But she didn’t. She meant to Taser the crook, but actually shot him. Great result, sure, and a saving of someone else’s tax cash – but it was a training failure first and foremost, complicated by the person on the other end of the bangstick being clearly unsuited to working under pressure.

Knuckle Dragger

December 24, 2021 9:21 am

Also:

If there were multiple jacks in scene (which there were) then usually one will have a Taser out and the others will upholster the big dogs, so that there are options available and the cops are guided by the actions of the crook.

In this case, there were three cops within three metres of the crook, all with direct vision. If he’d even reached for something the cops couldn’t see they would have ventilated him, to the applause of all assembled.

But the crook was in the process of driving off when he was shot with both hands on the wheel. Tasering to prevent escape, sure. Killing him on video, probably not.

A training failure, and a further failure on the part of the cop who should have realised she was deficient in this area and put her hand up for additional training, or got out of that line of work.

She did neither, and consequently ran a Hail Mary every time she left the office. No sympathy. From me, anyway.

Haven’t looked at prices in about 12 months. Just looked, and they are insane.

or if you wanted cheap and cheerful, Carcanos seem to be still affordable : https://www.ozgunsales.com/listing/101714/carcano_6_5x52_model_38_carbine.html

McGowan has commissioned a scheme to install minesite dongers into regional hospital carparks, to be used as separate batflu isolation units. Talking to a mate who does books for the electrical installation contract- and the whole scheme has gone tits up. Can’t get staff to inspect and repair units, can’t get steel or glass panel replacement, can’t re-gas or find seals to service the air cons, can’t get road pilots to transport, fuel cost has risen by 20% over thousands of kilometers, can’t even get gangs to re-paint lines on the bitumen where they’re meant to be landed.
She’s heard that serious numbers of small contactor workers have resigned, to go sweep floors on 1/4 the money for BHP, where they’ve got protection from jab mandates in an industry that might still exist in twelvw months time.

My Dad brought a Howa .223 as a truck gun to replace a Remington 788 in .222 that he had completely worn out.

But they do anticipate for it and they do train for it. Not daily, but all the time. For the reasons that occurred in this incident, and so that what happened does not happen.

Sure. Most cops do not plug someone at all in their careers, and those who do almost never do it more than once. But you do not hand out free passes for what is without any doubt a basic training failure compounded by certain unsuitability for working under pressure.

They are paid to not do what Potter did. She does not get a pat on the head and a walk away from me for being flustered, or that it was a comparatively rare occurrence.

Came back to Sydney yesterday for Xmas with the family. This morning went to coffee spot on the beach where we always meet friends in the morning. Everyone (at first) pleased to see us. We were careful to get takeaways & join those on the beach walkway. Lovely. Lots of catch-up chats.

I made the mistake of walking over to the cafe’s OUTDOOR tables to greet some lady friends. Almost immediately the “queen” of the pack brought up vaccinations. “You’re vaccinated aren’t you Vicki?” She knew full well I wouldn’t be.

“Oh,” she responded, “ you’re one of the superspreaders, then, who are spreading this Omicron”.

This was my moment….& I let her have it …..but with a smile of contempt on my mush! Do you ever read ANYTHING? …..even the government medical officers are telling all the vaccinated they can be infected & transmit…..there are less than 3% of us left unvvaccinated……do you really think that we are responsible for the 5,000 cases yesterday……& it was the vaccinated who flew the damn thing into the country try in the first place!…….

But in the midst of all this, the poor bloke having a quiet coffee next to us jumped to his feet & fled. That is the moment when you do, despite it all, feel like a leper.

Laugh could ultimately be on this idiot of a woman. My husband helped her husband restore a magnificent old Bentley, but her husband can’t manage the old gears & my fella is relied upon to drive him when he wants to go for a run in it…….ha!

BTW walked away from the “queen” laughing……

Sure, Andrews graduated from Monash, the photos prove that, but.
No one who was there residing at Mannix could recall him

It wasn’t a garduation photo it was a photo of Mannix residents for that particular year.

Not only is Andrews “clearly” present but he is listed as an officeholder of some sort, probably student elected.

Anyway, have you found any evidence of Henry Palaszczuk’s Greek borth yet?

Unlikely.
Annastacia is born 1966, where did Heinrich find the time and resources as an 18 year old to get married, father a daughter and study to become a Schoolteacher?

So, are you saying that Heinrich lied on the Parliamentary Register?

The best response I came up with is “all that stuff is good”. If they press you on the non committal nature of the response then move onto preferring to keep you medical status between you and your doctor. That way you get to politely decline to engage and make them look like a prying bastard if the need to press the issue.

Time to get married – 45 minutes.
Time to father a daughter – if you’re Lord Flashheart, 20 seconds.
Time to study to be a schoolteacher – if he’s super keen, eight hours a day on weekdays for three years with four weeks’ holidays – 1920 hours.

Remaining time in three years – 20,447 hours, 14 minutes and fifteen seconds.

Plenty of time.

Vicki, sounds liberating. I’ve got a good Socratic reasoning tree to torture vaxxers on, it makes them do all the hard work.
1. “But you can’t catch it, can you?”
2.”But it’s a immunizing vaccine, isn’t it?”
3. “But a vaccinated prole can’t pass it on, can they?”
If forced onto the back foot:
1. “Oh, so it just reduces severity. So would the jab give me even less chance of realizing I’ve even got the batflu?”
2. “Oh, so it’s just a preventative. So can I instead use sunshine, fitness or ivermectin?”
3. “Oh, so you’re not protected from whatever even more deadly variant which will inevitably come next. Why are you out and about then, shouldn’t you voluntarily be in Howard Hughes lockdown like all the other really smart people?”

The Silent Generation was born between 1911 and 1940.
They’re responsible for the problems today because they put their own security above everything else.

Sure.

My old man, both his adult brothers and Mum’s brother all volunteered in WW2. Half of them lived, half died.

Within 3 months of dad’s joining up, both of his brothers were already dead in other theatres of the war.
By the time he and his mates had finished their training (aircrew) 30% of them were already dead. That was before they even arrived at the fighting!
Mum and aunties were working in munitions factories.

I wouldn’t trade my generation’s security for theirs.

Apoligies for the length, but the following is what first piqueed my interest in Palaszczuk’s backstory. It was originally published in the Toowoomba Chronicle. The author is George Helon:

‘As a genealogist, etymologist and nomenclaturist (retired) I am occasionally asked by persons of Polish and eastern European descent to assist them with their family history research when the going gets tough.

When locating ancestors overseas appears an impossible task, and access to vital records seems an elusive dream, researchers often forget to utilise the simplest facts right in front them to elicit new avenues of enquiry – names!

It is interesting just how much information you can glean from an individual’s Christian name, surname, and the names of the places they originate from.

In the case of our esteemed Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, it is written in her Wikipedia biography that she is “the daughter of veteran state Labor MP Henry Palaszczuk, who was born in Germany to Polish parents.”

According to the Palaszczuk family immigration records publicly available at the National Archives of Australia, Annastacia’s grandfather Hipolit was born in Wolka/Wulce and her grandmother Ludviga/Ludwiga born in Racje/Rajca/Rajzca, Poland.

Now the surname PALASZCZUK is a blended patronymic derived from the word PALASZ (say, pow-w-ash), which in the Polish language means ‘broadsword’ – basically a nickname for a combative or fierce individual, a soldier – and the suffix CZUK (say, chook).

The suffix CZUK is particular to surnames found and originating in western Ukraine, an area that was once occupied by Poland.

CZUK (sometimes spelt CUK) when written singularly, means a ‘mouth’ or ‘snout’ in Ukrainian.

When used as a surname suffix, CZUK, sometimes transcribed CHUK, designates one as being the son of.

PALASZCZUK, basically, one who is the son of a soldier, or one who points out errors in others – someone who is censorious or pedantic?

As for the correct rendering of the name, the ‘L’ in the surname PALASZCZUK originally had a diacritical mark through it; this being best described as a forward slash ‘/’ through the ‘L’.
Annastacia is more rendiscent and common of an eastern Slavic (Ukrainian) Christian name than Polish.

The Polish rendering of Anastasia is Anastazja – not Annastacia; just as the correct form of Ludovica is Ludwika – not the eastern Slavic Ludviga or Ludwiga!

Wolka (usually spelt with a diacritical mark, or an apostrophe, over the o) is indicative of a hamlet, or a new settlement and is in most cases conjunctive with another appellation to form a place name, e.g. Wolka Lubieszowska.

Wulce on the other hand, more correctly spelt WOLCZE (the ‘L’ having a diacritical forward slash ‘/’ through it) is now known as Volche, or Volchýe and located in the Ukraine about Turka (49°13? N x 22°53? E).

Now given that the surname PALASZCZUK is most certainly eastern Slavic, or Ukrainian in its origin, it is more than likely the family originates from that area about Palashevka/Palashivka in the Ternopil Oblast in western Ukraine (48°58? N x 25°34? E) .

Palashevka is only 195.57 kilometres due east of Volche.

PALASZCZUK is a surname commensurate to that of an ethnic Ukrainian and for all intents and purposes the family originates from the Ukraine; it is not of Polish origin!

So why does our Premier insist on the pronunciation PAL-LA-SHAY?

Well, PAL-LA-SHAY does have a distinctively nice sound when elucidated, a bit like the French palais – a palace, especially a French government or municipal building.

Or could the pronunciation be more a case of family lore, or even an attempt by the Palaszczuk family to hide their true ethnic roots by passing themselves off as Poles.

Passing-off one’s self as being of Polish ancestry was typical of an earlier era of immigration in the twentieth century when linguistic hostility prevailed against eastern Slavic (Ukrainian) families who tried to mask the stigma of their true ethnic identity and origins in order to cross international borders, emigrate, and assimilate into unwary foreign populations unacquainted with their history.

Of course, not saying that our Premier’s family was involved in anything untoward or mischievious.

Eastern Europe was in turmoil, a bloodbath during the first decades of the twentieth century and the animosity between Poles and Ukrainians was particularly vehement as a result of a series of bloody conflicts and ethnic cleansing perpetrated mainly against Poles by Ukrainians over lands won by Poland during the 1919-1921 Polish-Soviet War.

The Polish-Soviet War saw the birth of the Second Republic of Poland (Polish, Rzeczpospolita Polska).

Poland had not existed as an independent sovereign state since the Third Partition of her lands by Prussia, the Austrian, and the Russian Empires in 1795.

To reduce the probability of further military and political aggression and incursion into her newly acquired lands, the Polish State settled ethnic Poles (mainly those with a military background) along her eastern borderland corridor (the Kresy); this resulted in a well-entrenched animosity between Poles and Ukrainians which continues to this day.

And contrary to some claims and rumours, the name PALASZCZUK does not appear in any of the registers of the Polish nobility and our Queensland Premier is not a Princess.’

Indeed, she isn’t!

Two doses of Pfizer and Moderna useless after a month re omicron. If this is true re doses, the booster is only going to give you another month at 50% VE before cratering as well. This booster daisy chain will not end well.

I’m getting very close to pulling the trigger on shorting the pharmas. But I think there’s still going to be a panic in the short term. I suspect Omni is a potentially dying gasp by covid as the virus is desperately attempting to mutate trying find a way to meet new hosts as the old versions are succeeding. It sounds from the symptoms – sniffles, cough, upper respiratory inflammation, headaches and slightly elevated fever that it’s … a fucking cold!. I’m due for a booster, but sure as hell it will be the last.

I suspect Omni is the immunity as we will all get it. Sure, there will be bodies floating around but a frail 85 year old could be blown over by the draft from a fan. Timing is important, but if I’m right there’s a few dollars to be made in shorting Pfizer etc.

Feelthebern:

Even though I heard of chicken pox parties growing up, I didn’t know of any that actually happened.
You can make the case for young people having omicron parties this summer.
It is the perfect time.

I remember when I was 4, a particular party where one of the sisters brought Geman Measles home. We all slept in the one big bed – for one night only because the girls complained about the boys having ‘boy germs’.
With 36 kids in the NCCH, there was no need for parties – if one got it, we all did.
It would have been an epidemiologists nightmare trying to track the contacts.

OK, so with the arrival of the Christmas break testing numbers should be well down, which means positive cases will be down, which means ‘hey presto’ the mask mandate is working. Simples.

Apparently Perth is full of diseased Frenchmen or something, so I have cancelled plans to head there for the annual family fistfight and pissup tomorrow.

There will be a convoy heading to Kalgoorlie instead, all driven by junior designated drivers there and back, with a severe warning that any speeding tickets will be paid out of their own pockets.

It will be cooler in Kal than Perth (42C predicted there) and nobody in the Goldfields give a fat rat’s ring about face nappies or social distancing.

Anyway, best wishes to all Cats for Christmas, be back in the New Year if the young hoons don’t kill me on the road trip or a drunken rellie cuts loose with a shotgun.

Surely no one is suggesting Anna the Munificent’s enthusiasm for Othering and Incarcerating has anything to do with Grandad possibly pursuing exciting career opportunities
available to motivated Ukrainians, in Poland after 1941.

No. but I note that once those career opportunities were no longer available, it was wise for the participants to move as far away as possible,

Tru nuff JC, but the pollies have an absolute obligation to have critical advice tested and verified. This they have not only failed to do, they just couldn’t be bothered (or have acted corruptly in support of relies or cronies in the pocket of pharma).
Just look at the moronic collection scammers, commies, fail upwarders, globalists, cronies and plain idiots purporting to be CHO’s.
Under no circumstances would you you wouldn’t let them advise you on anything, and certainly not life critical issues.

While not disagreeing with your point regarding the pharma companies, I think that ignores the designed political impacts of this invented ‘crisis’.

I think there are limits on how long people can stay ‘panicked’ before they have to give it up or face a major mental health crisis.

I agree with JC that the health bureaucracy and big pharma are running things at the minute. Parrothead caving to Chant and Hazzard is proof of that.

If you really need to shut someone up, put $50 on the table and say, “What is the name of W.A.’s Chief Health Officer?”

The exception is McClown. The health bureaucracy don’t need to run him. He is ahead of them. No doubt, if and when he ever gives up the reins of power in the West, he will be offered a nice directorship somewhere in the health sector.

Opioid Prescribing Declines, but Cuts Are Not Uniform – Crisis Kills More Than 100,000 Americans Annually

There is wide agreement that the overprescribing of opioid medication for pain was a key driver in creation of the U.S. opioid crisis, which has led to widespread addiction and now kills more than 100,000 Americans annually.

I’ve read Dopesick Nation and certainly Big Pharma has to share some of the blame. Big Pharma doesn’t write scripts, all it can do is persuade doctors to write scripts. Doctors are responsible for the welfare of their patients, not Big Pharma. How many doctors have been subject to penalty for over prescribing?

The IEA mourning the continued dominance of coal:

Coal-fired power generation is set to reach an all-time
high in 2021
The declines in global coal-fired power generation in 2019 and 2020
led to expectations that it might have peaked in 2018. But 2021
dashed those hopes. With electricity demand outpacing low-carbon
supply, and with steeply rising natural gas prices, global coal power
generation is on course to increase by 9% in 2021 to 10 350
terawatt-hours (TWh) – a new all-time high. However, coal’s share
of the global power mix in 2021 is expected to be 36% – 5
percentage points below its 2007 peak. In the United States and the
European Union, coal power generation is forecast to increase by
almost 20% in 2021 but will not reach 2019 levels. By contrast,
estimated growth of 12% in India and 9% in China will push coal
power generation to record levels in both countries. Taking into
account the rebound in global industrial output, overall coal demand
worldwide is expected to grow by 6% in 2021, bringing it close to
the record levels it reached in 2013 and 2014.
China continues to dominate global coal trends
China’s influence on coal markets is difficult to overstate. China’s
power generation, including district heating, accounts for one-third
of global coal consumption. China’s overall coal use is more than
half of the global total. Coal demand in China is underpinned by fast
growing electricity demand and the resilience of heavy industry.

the U.S. opioid crisis, which has led to widespread addiction and now kills more than 100,000 Americans annually.

Whereas the overreaction to the so-called opioid crisis has lead to millions of people suffering silently in agony because GPs are shit-scared to prescribe meaningful pain relief.

Wowsers are persecuting the ill because of wowserism and virtue signalling. Yet I betcha all the same people are full-on marijuana legalization for pain relief. I have contempt for all of them, and I don’t have chronic pain.
