The Prime Minister also indicated that there would be a uniform definition of what a close contact was across the country, and as the volume of cases increased, casual contacts may stop being talked about at all.

“There is even an argument that says there shouldn’t be any requirement to have a casual contact definition at all when you’re dealing with such a high volume of cases,” he said.

“What matters is how you’re managing those close contacts and how they’re defined and what you have to do if you are someone in that situation.”

I was at Wood Cut in the Crown complex last Thursday.
You had check into Crown.
Then check into Wood Cut.
This morning, Crown shows up as a casual contact in the NSW app.
So during the 3 hours I was at a restaurant, a COVID case was somewhere in the Crown complex, but not in the restaurant.
Seriously, what a waste of time.

That I can understand.
A casual contact at a place the size of Crown is silly.

So I had a test on Sunday morning & got the results back on Tuesday morning saying nothing to worry about.

The Hun, a parochial Vicco rag is not throwing the ticker tape out because Bolandโ€™s been performing at an elite level for years, has a cracking record at the G or that he has the work ethic of a methed-up Clydesdale.

Theyโ€™re doing it because if Boland gets a Baggy Green, heโ€™ll be only the second indig player after Jason Gillespie to get one.

Naturally, Boland โ€˜discoveredโ€™ he was the recipient of 60,000 years of culture well into adulthood.

Austria Hiring People To “Hunt Down Vaccine Refusers” (22 Dec)

The city of Linz, which is home to 200,000 inhabitants, has a relatively low vaccination rate of 63 per cent.

In response, โ€œLinz now wants to hire people who are supposed to hunt down vaccine refusers,โ€ reports Swiss news outlet Blick.

The role of the inspectors will be to check on โ€œwhether those who do not get vaccinated really pay for it.โ€

The vaccine refusenik hunters will receive a wage of 2774 euros, which will be paid 14 times a year, making an annual income of 38,863 euros.

Maybe the Austrians could call this new agency something catchy. Starting with the letter G. Perhaps the unvaccinated in Austria could get their daughters to start diaries too.

Noted your post yesterday in relation to your own puppy selling gig via the Net.

Perhaps my message of yesterday morning was (as usual) somewhat garbled. The point I wished to make was that people who front thousands of dollareydoos, and particularly to crypto accounts when they are already emotional and have developed a โ€˜connectionโ€™ to a pup to people whose provenance has yet to be confirmed, are dunderheads.

Clearly, a state of affairs where flashy websites (or buy/swap/sell sites) are used as fleecing mechanisms would do nothing but aggravate genuine dealers.

far too often our society is scripting people to think the blues they are experiencing is a disease when it is typically just a maladaptive response to the exigencies of life which leave them feeling overwhelmed because they havenโ€™t been taught or learnt an adaptive response that pulls them through the travails. Iโ€™ve been a bit busy studying recently to spend much time spacechooking the open threads at the two main Cats, however I thought you may be interested to know that in a remote corner of Queensland there is a journalist (age 61) who remembers how journalism is meant to be done.

Weโ€™re in a regional area visiting family – there are few people wearing the stupid things here. Maybe that will change with the return of QR coding; maybe not.

Will exasperation with these govt backflips, long waiting times for testing and the obvious non-escalation of hospitalisations cut further into community compliance? (Of course, youโ€™d think so, but who knows when the citizens are bombarded by the media with Armageddon unfolding every day).

MT the other day you commented on a change to your vision. I went to the optometrist last week. He was interested to know whether Iโ€™d had anything happen from the jab, due to a pre-condition (which has never actually presented). There was a post in The Conservation that stated while there has been a huge increase in the use of antidepressants and access to mental health services in recent years suicide rates and the incidence of depression have not declined. Roger that is where I am confused because while I know about Ellis and his reference to stoicism as a foundation for CBT when I hear psychologists speak on the media there is not a hint of stoicism in their comments.

Would depend on the practitioner and their training, John.

But the Stoic principle is at the heart of it.

Iโ€™m often surprised at the lack of general knowledge of professionals. If our education system functioned as it should, instead of being a glorified technical education system (nothing wrong with that in its own place), all the professions would have to complete a one or two year liberal arts course including philosophy, logic, history and so on before proceeding with their professional degree. I knowโ€ฆIโ€™m dreaming.

Damn right. The lack of a broader perspective because of our industrialised education system is a huge mistake. That touches on what I previously complained about in regard to modern politicians. They don’t reflect a broader appreciation of a liberal arts course in their policies, their character, or their rhetoric.

A couple of science news stories for Lizzie if she’s still around.

Geneticists’ new research on ancient Britain contains insights on language, ancestry, kinship, milk (22 Dec)

The researchers analyzed the DNA of 793 newly reported individuals in the largest genome-wide study involving ancient humans. Their findings reveal a large-scale migration likely from somewhere in France to the southern part of Great Britain, or modern-day England and Wales, that eventually replaced about 50 percent of the ancestry of the island during the Late Bronze Age (1200 to 800 B.C.).

The study supports a recent theory that early Celtic languages came to Great Britain from France during the Late Bronze Age.

New dates for the start of Viking-age trade (22 Dec)

An interdisciplinary team of researchers at the Danish National Research Foundation’s Centre for Urban Network Evolutions at Aarhus University (UrbNet) has now made a breakthrough by applying new astronomical knowledge about the past activity of the sun to establish an exact time anchor for global links in the year 775 CE.

In collaboration with the Museum of Southwest Jutland in the Northern Emporium Project, the team has conducted a major excavation at Ribe, one of Viking-age Scandinavia’s principal trading towns.

“This result shows that the expansion of Afro-Eurasian trade networks, characterized by the arrival of large numbers of Middle Eastern beads, can be dated in Ribe with precision to 790ยฑ10 CEโ€”coinciding with the beginning of the Viking Age. However, imports brought by ship from Norway were arriving as early as 750 CE,” says Professor Sรธren Sindbรฆk, who is also a member of the team.

This groundbreaking result challenges one of the most widely accepted explanations for maritime expansions in the Viking Ageโ€”that Scandinavian seafaring took off in response to growing trade with the Middle East through Russia.

That finding surprises me. The glass industry dates well back before the fall of Byzantium and Middle Eastern glass beads would be a neat trading commodity to exchange for furs and amber from the Scandinavians. The rivers going in that direction would’ve been pretty busy from the times of Augustus I suspect, since he also had a trading post in India then.

Anyway the data is interesting, I hope it adds something to your accumulated pile of Celtic and Norse culture papers Lizzie!

As long as Hazzard is gone at the next NSW state election, thatโ€™s all that matters

If I ever see or hear that bloated festering sack of shit again in my life it will be too soon.

In the unlikely situation that I get elected, I will make all COVID exemptions (travel, work & quarantine) public.

Berntard, in a probably-doomed attempt to stop your endless, baseless sooking over absolutely nothing at all that exists outside your own tiny, reptilian brain, and in the public interest of not clogging up this useful blog with your inconsequential bleating, Iโ€™m going to do you and every other reader a favour.

If elected, I will make any and all covid mandate exemptions given to any and all recipients of said exemptions public, and I will use them to expose their duplicity and humiliate them at every step of the way, and I will do so in the House on the record so you can read it in Hansard.

Now, Berntard, if youโ€™re on the side of the fight against this globalist tyranny and not merely an internet troll, please provide the links to the work you claim to have done.
Again, I have too much to do between now and election day to be trawling through the entire bloody internet looking for evidence to support your arm-waving.

So, would you really want to consult a GP who doesnโ€™t regard the Hippocratic Oath as relevant, and/or is fundamentally ignorant of the most recent research re Covid transmission rates of vaccinated & unvaccinated?

What Iโ€™m hearing is that some GP practices in QLD are refusing to see unvaccinated patients.

It’s certainly happening here in South Australia. Apparently they will agree to allow phone consultations, although what value they might be to patients I have yet to find out.

Little reminder to tip Dover for hosting this blog. Give him some Christmas cheer. The Donate button is at the top right of te page. It’s blue.

Beneatch that, if you’re going to shop at Amazon, hit the Amazon button and go that way. Dover gets a tiny percentage from Amazon. Really tiny, which is why you should also hit the blue donate button.

Thanks

I don’t know who the real decision makers are.
The reason why I made the jump from hating Hazzard to contributing to a campaign to get rid of him was that the husband of a bird I used to work with was a Qantas hostie.
Was & now hasn’t worked for since this all began.
And was on the receiving end as part of the wink, wink it was cabin crew that caused the Avalon “outbreak” last Christmas when Hazzard knew full well its was an Australian diplomat coming back from the US who was patient zero.
And considering diplomats were EXEMPT from quarantine, no rules were broken.
He is one of the current 4-5 candidates that one will be selected from to run against Hazzard.
He’s only an outside chance of being selected but he really wants it.

Grate moments in political idiocy, 2021 style.

Waffles Turnbuckle: “Look, I’m not going to cast around any wild accusations here, but is there any evidence that Christian Porter didn’t have the barking mad woman who accused him of rape bumped off?”

No doubt there are many others – feel free to post some more, Cats.

Rabz- your assessment of that maggot Brad Hazzard is spot on. Gladys ought to have chucked him our of Cabinet after the Ruby Princess debacle. Instead, he allowed him to cosy up to the New WorldOrder warrior Kerrie Chant. What they both then inflicted on NSW citizens in the name of โ€œhealthโ€ will hopefully one day be understood for the disaster that it truly was.

I suspect that Perrottet knows this, but the mechanics of modern day political life pose a myriad of concessions to Realpolitik.

Agree health hazard is one of the standout horrors. Funning how he actually said ‘new world order’. What’s Terry Metherell doing with himself these days I wonder. Always used to think of him driving past Gordon Public School.

Don’t worry, you won’t have to when a fake independent in New England raises it as an issue.
Considering Joyce didn’t think politicians shouldn’t have to disclose vaccination status, imagine how lowly someone so out of touch would think exemptions are?

Supreme Court Sets Oral Arguments on Biden Covid-19 Vaccine Rules

The Supreme Court said it would hold fast-track oral arguments early next month to consider whether the Biden administration can enforce Covid-19 vaccine-or-testing rules for large private employers, as well as vaccine requirements for many healthcare workers.

John Roberts will flake.

I don’t accept this. He came out talking the talk so needs to walk the walk. Allowing the health Nazis to walk all over him is both criminal and pathetic. He should go down fighting if he has to go down.

some GP practices in QLD are refusing to see unvaccinated patients.

They are businesses, first and foremost and under no obligation to see unpeople.
That said, if it were someone with AIDS, registrations would be yanked

Anyone needing a quick COVID PCR test for travel reasons, there’s a place near Sydney airport doing them for 80 bucks a pop with a quick turnaround.
A bird I know did one this morning & got the result in 4 hours.
