Abraham Lincoln.
Dan Andrews and his secret state cronies should bear this in mind.
We’re awake and disgusted enough to bring his stinking cabal to justice.
I would hope there is no moaning when we end up with an Each Way Albo Government and more of the likes of Jaqui Lambie in the Senate then. And rememberClive watered down Abbott’s end Carbon Tax bill for no clear reason other than he could.

Baba, were you living in the affected areas at the time? Have you seen the destruction since?
The dismissive “no” doesn’t cut it. I understand the press did their usual stuff for clicks and eyeballs, and the fires were run o’seas as climageddon.
But the fires were real. People died and suffered tremendous loss. The alpine areas alone will take years to recover. My own family was involved in firefighting up on the Bells Line.
Oh dear! .. methinx the years are catching up with me! .. 74 tomorrow but today 73 & absolutely shattered …!

That shouldn’t be forgotten.
Most Elf bureacrats are failures in the wider medical world who, until 2020, got their rocks off bleating about alcohol, smokes, fat, sugar and climate change.
Broadly agree – although probably not a walk in.
Politicians learn one thing at a time, usually the thing they last saw go wrong. Team Albanese has learned from the Shorten Experience and has been running subsurface since the 2019/20 bushfires in quite a disciplined way – albeit at the price of invisibility.
His problems will start when, in the few weeks of the election campaign, he is forced to bob up with a whole shelf of bran nu policies and relatively ‘fresh’ political faces.
He’s not only going to be selling policy shite like his Net Zero (and God knows what regarding Covid, budget repair, defence, Foreign Affairs, and generally healing the Nation) – but also relaunching the bunch of off-putting ‘talent’ with which he proposes to run the joint.
A big task for a mediocre and uninspiring little man. Even with much of the media in the tank.
You’d have to think Morrison is 97.3% gorne: lost by his personal flabby handling of the nearly three years of destruction of Australia by fire and pestilence.
UAP is likely to be a colourful $50m flash in the pan: competing with ‘Informal’ for the protest vote, but drowning in zero policy, florid candidates and Fat Bastard’s negative personal appeal.
The risk then is a minority Labor Government propped up by ‘Voice Of’s’, single-issue indies, and the fucking Greens.
Probably an existential risk.
Memories are short.
I agree that ScoMo has been weak, and I agree with Cassie that he never recovered from the bushfire pile-on.
But I shudder to think where we would be with Hunchback in Spring St and Albo in the Lodge.

Qld today:
CHO.
“There are now 112 people in hospital with the virus, five of those in intensive care.
Among those in intensive care are two pregnant women, one who is vaccinated and one who is not.
Chief Health Officer John Gerrard said it is critical for women who are pregnant or plan on getting pregnant to get vaccinated to protect themselves and their unborn children”.
Well that makes sense…
I agree absolutely with this Faustus.
We have seen this in the Victorian upper house.
It has enabled a socialist left faction Premier to slide through far-left initiatives with the plausible deniability of, “Oh, I don’t really support that stuff, but we had to agree to it to get the Essential Elf legislation through”.
Calling your statement was “In 2019 and into 2020 the place was burning down”.
That is overwrought nonsense.
Broadly agree Faustus. The key to electoral success for the Socialist Left is remaining quiet in Opposition. Something more than a few in the US are discovering.
Calli
But will Albanese be some lame failure that limps along or a crash and burn disaster like Gillard?
Sorry, Baba. I will have to fill in all the gaps in my statement to suit you, as you appear to be a literalist.
In 2019 and into 2020, the place appeared to be burning down, with vast swathes of Victoria and NSW suffering severe bushfires over a prolonged period. South east Queensland was also affected, as was SA. The fires were extensive and hugely destructive, and the feeling of utter helplessness in the face of them was clear on the faces and attitudes of many of the people fighting them.
You cannot treat the Liars as a lump.
Increasingly their leaders are coming from the left faction. The days of Hawke, Richo and the NSW Right are long gone. Probably forgotten.
Probably. That is stating to look like a trend. For both branches of the UniParty.
When Government changed under the existing Party System, in ’49;’72;’75;’83;’96;’07&’13, the Opposition won a clear victory.
Every time it was Line Ball the Government hung on.
Bottom Line:
Albanese isn’t coasting in with a Small Target strategy, he either wins big or he doesn’t win.
That’s the reason for all the “Voices Of …” Labor funded AstroTurf Parties.
Labor has already written off any chance of winning on Policy, now they’re trying to slither in thru the back door.
RGR was a couple of standard deviations from the mean in terms of incompetence.
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bearesays:

Just catching up, and noticed that someone who has very definitely stopped commenting here has taken a second swipe at the supposed “dickless”.
As a matter of logic, it would seem that Lizzie’s complaint must be either that:
(a) people are using the “like” button rather than spelling out their own views; or
(b) people are agreeing with comments that Lizzie takes exception to – apparently, from the context, ones that Lizzie takes as being expressed in an offensive manner.
As for (a), the like button is there for a reason. It enables people to express agreement without a thread being cluttered up with lots of one or two word statements of assent. It’s a feature of the site put there by dover and of which an on-thread debate showed a substantial majority approval.
As for (b), it would ring a bit hollow coming from someone to whom the word “dickless” is as natural a part of the vocabulary as “the” or “and”.
Disagree.
There’s no difference between the Left and Right Factions of the Labor Party any more.
Richo seeded the then Socialist Left with Right Wing plants, Albanese among them, way back in Wran’s day.
Now it’s a UniFaction.
Clive has been politics for decades and has become very wealthy on the last 10 years.
He will likely get a lot of otherwise informal votes, he’s competing with people not voting at all.
The only policy that matters right now is going back to February 2020.
No really negative stories of candidates have emerged.
Can we poll the electorate, Fat Bastard v Sarah Hanson Young?
Rinse and repeat.
Tim, I agree with a), but with a rider.
The “like” button can be used strategically and maliciously. Anyone can use it, and use it multiple times if you have a string of identities established through moderation. There are a lot of kooks out there who enjoy watching someone, who they think is susceptible to this type of manipulation, suffer.
It’s nice to have the appearance of everyone nodding their heads and agreeing with you and of course it will appeal to the ego, but I wouldn’t take it too seriously.
Why anyone would conclude “we have to vote Liberal” is beyond me. It is just like being a battered wife.
They’re terrible.
Gladys and Darryl corruption.
NSW – Hazzard, Gladys, Elliot.
Federally – online surveillance bill, electronic transactions framework, sweeping powers to be given under regs of the surveillance bill.
850 bn of Federal debt and counting.
Vote for anyone but the establishment (LNP, ALP, GRN) parties. Put them last, in a random order.
Baba, you are now being nasty and petty.
*Slam*
I’d agree with this under conventional conditions.
I think conventional political thinking needs to be revised now that the nomenklatura have engaged in political violence by forcing shit into peoples arms.
I don’t claim to know what is going to happen, but I do know that we are in uncharted territory when it comes to potential voting patterns.
I’d be careful laying the template of the last war, onto the next.
Dickless upticking is so 2021.
Frankly, I’d like to see upticks with dicks instead of without. Dickticking.
And change the thumbs up to the shape used by informal voters on ballots.
Bruce of Newcastle:
Considering the Left are always doing just what they accuse others of doing, it may be worthwhile looking at the evidence of a coup from them.
The evidence would be found in the moving/stockpiling munitions etc in locations deemed secure by the Left.
It would also be worthwhile looking at construction of camps for holding large amounts of ‘infected’ people.
Little Bloke work report:
Sheep work involving horse riding. Trip shed to work on model boat project and to attempt to install the alarm system. Wrapped up the morning with a bit of front end loader work on Little Johnny.
Might see if we can do some backhoe work once it cools off a bit.
FFS, why the obbsession with “upticks” or even “secondary upticks” (ie people ticking a comment which is critical of your comment).
I think I mentioned here a while ago that I discovered a way (admittedly very tedious) of registering multiple upticks.
Which someone else may be using.
But who cares?
And if you do care, as I said to someone here the other day, maybe it’s time to grow a couple of layers of impervious skin.
Thanks Groogs. I feel I am probably on the right track. Fuckwit.
Labor has been in Opposition for three terms – and has fired barrages of policy blanks. So right out of ideas.
Judging by what I see in Net Zero, they are going to come to the 2022 election with a series of purchased ‘independently modelled’ policies, full of comforting numbers and graphs and heroic assumptions.
Again, judging by Net Zero, none of this will be practical – and it will get worse in post election horse trading.
As the implementation wheels start to wobble and fall off in government à la Rudd 1.0, I’d expect Albanese to receive the traditional “Good Government That Has Lost It’s Way” boning – probably in the quagmire of grief and blame leading up to 2025.
Possibly by Chalmers, possibly Plibbers. Probably not any of Bowen, Burke, Shorten. And Wong (arguably the most capable of the whole clownshow) is in the wrong house.

I read that he made $40 million from Gold Coast Real Estate by the time he was 30 [1984].
That night be an interesting story to flesh out?
98% of Informal Votes are people filling out the ballot incorrectly
The other 2% are blank ballots and people signing the ballot or writing a name on it, such as Donald Duck.
Since there are people named Donald Duck, that ballot is Informal.
Scrooge McDuck, Goofy, Mickey Mouse etc are formal, since there are no people of that name.
Agree.
Since both major Parties have more or less identical Covid/19 Policies, it comes down to who can finesse the angry people.
Albanese is going to the Election with 100% Vaxxed, no exceptions, which leaves Scotty with a lot of room to maneuver.
Yes, but that is not an excuse to blindly Vote 1 Fat Cloive without putting him under the pump.
What, for example, is his position on China?
Do you think you know because he got into a legal shit-fight with his Chinese business partner five years ago and said some derogatory things about them?
Think again.
If Fat Cloive’s interests in 2022 align with Xi’s, he will be all in.
We are still masked for 2 more days because 1 Frenchman brought in a sniffle (Legitimately, as their latest bullshit rule against Queensland went active 1 hour after the bloke and his girlfriend landed in Perth).
15,000-odd tests, and only 11 ‘positive cases.’
In a State where Sneakers’ subjects have more or less satisfied his bugmens’ every demand (Practically 92% of all the State’s population over 12 has had the first stab. And the proportion with the second is close to 90). Sneakers has nowhere left to dictate, not with a promise to open up on February 5.
Or so you’d think. As of yesterday, folks who took their second stab 4 months ago have until Jan 31st to get a new one. And from Feb 1st, all of us who had the stab 3 months ago must go again. Or we all lose our jobs.
Let’s go, Mark.
And all this was dictated at the same time as the East Coast universally declared defeat in the face of Omicron.
We have been promised a UAP candidate in every seat. I will break a lifetime’s habit and put Sharma last but, considering that normally that’s automatically the Greens, there’s not much difference because that is exactly where he belongs. Plus, I have taken a vow to NEVER support the Liberals again. If and when they deserve it, I might review that but, unfortunately, I can’t see any prospect of that. The only decent Liberals are the ones jumping ship.

Gofundme bans my fundraiser
“Urgent post-script to my blog from yesterday. I was delighted to receive a stream of notices from gofundme last night showing that many of you were sending in generous donations to support Chris, to help fight his wrongful dismissal case.
This morning I discovered all the donors had been sent an email saying that their money was to be refunded. Here is the gofundme email explaining the reason:
Dear Bettina,
We’re reaching out to you to inform you that your GoFundMe account has been removed because it violates our Terms of Service, which you can view here. Specifically, the content of your fundraiser falls under our “Prohibited conduct” section.
Our Terms of Service, along with strictly enforced policies from the payments industry, prohibit GoFundMe from allowing you to continue raising money on our platform.
Any donations made to your fundraiser that have not already been transferred to the bank account on file have been refunded. Those funds will arrive back in your donors’ bank accounts within 3-7 business days.
We ask that you please do not respond to this email, as we cannot reinstate your GoFundMe account.
Best regards,
The GoFundMe team
Visit our terms: https://www.gofundme.com/terms
As far as we can see, the prohibited conduct I have breached presumably falls under one of these ominous categories:
User Content that reflects or promotes behaviour that we deem, in our sole discretion, to be an abuse of power or in support of hate, violence, harassment, bullying, discrimination, terrorism, or intolerance of any kind relating to race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, serious disabilities or diseases.
The legal defence of alleged crimes associated with hate, violence, harassment, bullying, discrimination, terrorism, or intolerance of any kind relating to race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, serious disabilities or diseases, financial crimes or crimes of deception;
How about that? Another woke organisation taking it upon themselves to act as our moral guardians, even determining which victims we are permitted to support. This fundraising platform is full of campaigns to raise money to stop sexual assault and harassment, or funds for sexual abuse ‘survivors.’ Here’s Nina Funnell raising nearly $250,000 defending a survivor who defamed Christian Porter and other politicians during the furore over sexual assault/harassment allegations.
I hope you will agree this is an outrage and will help me alert people to this latest intrusion into our basic rights and liberties.
I urge all of you who have had your donations returned to please send them through to me again. I am now steering clear of these dictatorial fundraising platforms and ask you to please donate to Chris via my Paypal or direct deposit using details given here. Please mark your donation “Chris Fund”.
What a start to the New Year – a telling reminder of the dangerous world we are facing and the need for us all to step up, speak out and take on this mob controlling our lives.”
” And Wong (arguably the most capable of the whole clownshow) is in the wrong house.”
She’s also the nastiest…by a mile.
Re uncharted territory, the last Newspoll, iirc, had Albanese & Co. taking 12 seats off the Libs, including Dutton’s. Yes, it’s just a poll, but I sense that barring a campaigning disaster of Shortenesque proportions, the inner faction of the Uniparty is lining up to take over the reins of governance from the outer faction, which is how it’s been in Australia since the ’90s. While there are strong sentiments of dissent from the official narrative out there, I’m afraid they are numerically insignificant. There’s a lot of ruin in a nation, and in a generally complacent nation like Australia politicians can get away with a lot of ruinous behaviour before the people become restive. The Hunchback, the Ukrainian & Sneakers have each gambled and won on that.
Why do we bother with the expense of criminal courts if GoFundMe can determine the merits of an allegation of criminal conduct?
Who could forget her outstanding performance as finance minister?
Lol.
I’m picturing you in a pinny and curlers, fag hanging off the bottom lip, leaning over the fence and haranguing the neighbour.

Palmer is very likely to be funded by U.S. Spook Agencies.
Who paid the [ha ha] $1 Million for UberSpooky Al Gore to fly down here to meet with Palmer?
Palmer has a similar background to Christopher Skase.
Skase’s old man was born in the 1890s in Williamstown, got in on the ground floor of Radio in Melbourne in the 1920s.
Palmer’s old man was a similar vintage and origin, got into the Movie Theatre biz in Melbourne in the 1920s.
So, both born into the Advertising/propaganda business.

Fuck off, Glowie.
I agree – particularly in the present extraordinary circumstances.
But at this stage, the opening moves by UAP are an almost exact rerun of 2019. Clive bizarrely relying on smirking, thumbs up,Trust Me politics, no policies, and apparently zero staff work.
The floater is whether there is strong appeal for Clive-style ‘freedom’ (whatever that means) amongst a voting population which seems on balance to prefer to be looked after.
I’d still prefer history as a guide.
“We have been promised a UAP candidate in every seat. I’m pretty sure the Lib Dems will put up a candidate in Wentworth and that is who I’ll be voting for.
NewsPoll lost every shred of cred in 2019 when it called Labor the Winner ten days out.
That piece of Murdochian ArseDuggery oughtta go into the record books as akin to taking parachute jumps outta a snake’s arsehole, but it seems to have been memoryholed.
Anyway, Labor were still lucky to hang on for 68 seats, they’ve got at least 20 that are very Marginal.
Still Scotty’s to lose and he won’t die wondering.
Can we have an FU! button?
What’s needed is a Commenters To Ignore button.

I did mention the ability to play the “upticks”, I just can’t remember when.
As for the “someone who needed a thicker skin” that I was being vague about, I can add some clarity.
That was me yesterday telling Arky to harden up and stop sooking after what he has dished out here over the journey.
Bespoke was right.
It was pity harvesting.
But I was being deliberately vague about all that to avoid another lecture from Mother Superior about it, jumping in to settle an old score with Bespoke.
But, yes, why not be explicit?

Rabz has a new show? Who knew? I deliberately don’t keep up much here now. And I certainly don’t want a bun fight with Johanna. I am sick to death of her, and may note btw that most bullies like her are total narcissists
Less than 15 minutes after having instantly assumed, totally wrongly, that a two word blog comment was ALL ABOUT HER!!!!, she accused others of being narcissists (in a comment which also included the disdainful brushoff of Rabz’ show, with “Who knew?”).
As self-beclownments go it was really only an early season warmup, like a Test player making a half century in a district game, but if I’d had a mind to I could have made hay with it. I’ve actually restrained myself from deprecation of Lizzie’s comments far, far more often than I’ve allowed myself to hit “Post”. Like Robert Clive, I stand astonished at my own moderation.
Arguably, yes.
Unfortunately the Venn diagram of Nice and Capable politicians doesn’t often intersect – particularly not in the major parties.
Exactly.
Bananaby had a bit of a cheer squad here, kicking the political corpse of McCormack on the way out.
Truth is, there is no practical difference between Bananaby and McCormack.
Except honesty.
McCormack was up front about where he stood.
I see someone upthread talking about Bananaby “defending rural interests in Western NSW”.

Ghislaine Maxwell will not reveal details of others involved in Jeffrey Epstein’s child sex-trafficking network in exchange for a lenient sentence, her brother says.
The British socialite’s decision not to co-operate with US investigators after her conviction last week will offer comfort to alleged co-conspirators, including four women who worked for the couple. High-profile men who have been linked to the abuse of under-age girls, including Prince Andrew, will also be relieved to discover that Maxwell, 60, does not intend to talk. The prince denies any wrongdoing.
Prince Andrew is accused of having sex with Virginia Roberts Giuffre when she was 17. Picture: AFP.
Prince Andrew is accused of having sex with Virginia Roberts Giuffre when she was 17. Picture: AFP.
Ian Maxwell, 65, said his sister maintained her innocence and had no plans to cut a deal. “Prosecution confirmed no plea bargain offers were made or received” before the trial, he said. “I expect that position to be maintained.”
His sister faces up to 65 years in jail after a jury in New York convicted her of recruiting and trafficking girls as young as 14 for abuse by Epstein, her former boyfriend. Prosecutors described Maxwell as a “sophisticated predator” who groomed and manipulated girls in “one of the worst crimes imaginable”.

His interviews and writings of late have been measured and proportionate, pretty much along the lines more moderate Cats might take.

“Yes, it can be a very serious illness. For some people. But that doesn’t warrant the damage being done enforcing measures which are ultimately futile anyway”.
The Australian is reporting that Ghislaine Maxwell has passed up the opportunity for a more lenient sentence in exchange for giving details of the people in the Epstein ring. Talk about a statement of the bleeding obvious, Maxwell is not going to commit Arkanicide.

Twelve upticks of Neilsen’s post at 1:33 p.m.
This is totally out of hand!
Stop it immediately!
Ha! ha!
Doesn’t everyone?
I automatically deduct one every time I look at those numbers.
Doesn’t everyone?
I automatically deduct one every time I look at those numbers.
If so there’d be lots of people on negative 1.
Maybe someone has devised a “GTFO” button but just isn’t sharing.
Has there been a rise in Deaths From All Causes since CovidVaxxing was introduced?
Yes.
Pretty soon the lid won’t be able to
stay held down on these numbers, but hey, new strain of Covid has arrived, blame the UnVaxxed.
I can see this game going on indefinitely, a variation on the Climate Change scam.
*sob*
How could you mock me? The horror!
I thought it was a cunning and evil plan.

A relative had a friend who was involved in the Rotherham investigation from Child Services side in the UK. She was Muslim but secular, it sickened her that much I was told she had to have a long break from it before returning. Never got the particular thankfully apart from the fact their was a concerted cover up of known activity for years before being blown open.
Haven’t been able to reuptick the Neilsen comment, but i might return on January 3 for another attempt.
I haven’t upticked it at all.
Perhaps there’s a black market in upticks? I see a business opportunity.
If you don’t blow your own trumpet, who else is going to?
rickw,
Vicpol probably capsicum sprayed the poor man out of spite before the ambos arrived.
I’ll play your silly little game…
What did you gain?
Fuck all, but I did ensure Xmas for two families existed. Or at least, that was the intention. But see below..
What did you lose?
Well, I spent a week in hospital, including a day in ICU, after my first jab, which (by suggestion of three docs) meant that my cunning plan of having shot two just before Xmas didn’t happen.
So, in fact, I gained exactly nothing because no-one was going to challenge me over Xmas as to vaccination status! Pretty hard even for the most determined Karen to slag off at a bloke who has lost 15% of his body weight.
So a nett loss thus far (no gain, unknown substance inserted, ugly side effect experienced)
What are you yet to lose?
Rhetorical question.
I have everything I haven’t yet lost “yet to lose”. As does every living thing.
What has your actions cost others?
Fuck all.
On an epidemiological level my contribution to whatever you might think the effects of “leaky” jabs are is minuscule.
On a societal level, I can still bash away at the illiberality of the entire thing.
Phrasing, Mater!
An awful thought crossed my mind about making a joke referencing the Buddy System (Oy Vey! 🙁 ), but as this is not that sort of blog, I won’t post it…
Heard first hand Albo is a nasty piece of work Dragnet. I once worked with a bloke who had a very diverse and interesting life before coming into mining, he was in Young Labor at the time Albo was back in the day. Exact words on Albo from this bloke: “He has allies not friends…”

@ Mark-
Don’t worry too hard about Struth.
He blew himself out yesterday, and is down to pissweak anklebiting this morning.
Best left ignored.
Happy Day 2 of 2022, anyway… 🙂
I’m too well hung to uptick anything.
I heard struth had run out of ad blue and was catching a train back to town.
The absolute number might fall within historical norms, but I saw a lot of teachers, nurses, social workers, etc, who are now unemployed due to mandates. All traditional left voting demographics. Without doubt, many remained employed, but have shit on liver about the conditions imposed to be so. The kumbaya crowd are none too enamoured with the mandates either. Things have been turned on their head a little.
I won a lot of money on the LNP victory when polls thought Shorten was a Monty. Trump also proved that they are merely a tool used to influence opinion. I think the next election might throw up a few surprises.
And you like to uptick your own, Grigory.
What is it with you today? You are even more insipid than usual Has your gypsum gone off? Or are you just nursing a hangover from being sat on and suppressed by 3 separate trolls over the last 24 hours?
How much influence does Palmer have at the uap, more than presidents of other parties? It’s not Palmer’s party, is it? Or is it.
Team Zeppelin shall have its time to shine.
But Twiggy has to sort out his Green Hydrogen plants first… 😉
Bruce, I expected something of that sort after the last presidential election. The USA has something like 3 million veterans with reasonably recent military experience. They are amongst the poorest sectors in the community and were fundamentally Trump supporters. Mike Pompeio has been very quiet for a while. But he has lost a lot of weight and looks very fit for purpose. He was a respected officer in his time. Don’t hold his sojourn at the CIA against him.
Mostly ignore him these past few months, but it’s a lazy Sunday arvo and some stupidities wake me up!
HNY to you and yours. And trains.
A young pregnant woman has become the first person in the world to be infected with both Covid and the flu.
The woman tested positive for both viruses in Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva city, Israel, on Thursday.
She is suffering mild symptoms and Israeli health officials are studying her case to determine whether the combination causes any greater severity of illness.
Her case is first documented in the world but doctors believe there could be more ‘flurona’ infections in the country.
Flurona? That doesn’t sound good.

Isn’t that the stuff they put in the water that makes the frogs gay or something?

What’s the symptoms of the dreaded Fuorona, Doc?
Oh, pretty much same as The Flu.
Can I get vaccinated against it anyway?
Well, we’ve got a limited supply, but okay.
[cutaway to room out the back with 5 million doses …]
Mark form M
Really, you were hospitalized due to the shot? Wow. Hope you’re feeling better. What were the symptoms and which poison?
I’d say the next federal election is possibly one of the hardest to predict for a long time. Forget the polls, they are fake.
Given the mass protests, and as Mater has articulated above, a lot of people have lost their jobs, homes and relationships as a result of the actions of the establishment parties.
Is it going to be a Liberal government controlled by minorities on the right?
Or a Labor government controlled by minorities on the left?
There are other possibilities too.
Make work for the coal miners Albo puts out of a job?
$17m a minute. Bargain!
Welcome back to Australia Carpe, we are rooted!
Any history of that ever happening?
Last time Palmer had a Rep and a few Senators Abbott told him to get fucked.
Baba
Don’t shortchange that crap as covid has sent lots of potential commute people to the sticks. They would vote for shit that cuts the travel time by 30 mins and they don’t give a shit how much it costs the rest of the country. Watch for the likelihood of mountains of cash thrown to the regionals just a short ways from the big cities.
Ed , stop annoying people.

Meanwhile in Australia State Premiers give themselves unlimited emergency powers with zero scrutiny and old Parliament House is nearly burnt down by radicals, none have been arrested and charged.
Comment rejected by Paywallian.
Will someone dock Woolfe 350 social credits? Such thinking can no longer be tolerated.
Ah. Right.
That shit’s back again.
Only the, what, 18th or 20th time in the last 40 years some stooge has proposed it?
Have ARTC fix the up the engineering responsible for the repeated mudhole woes on the Main South and the Standard Gauge between Albury and Melbourne, Albo.
You’ll get more value out of your OPM…
Just like some nitwit proposes or outright demands passenger train services return to Albany every other Wednesday in Sandgroperstan. On the grounds that 7 or 8 hours’ slow and roundabout (Railway line goes to Northam, turns South to go down thru York, Beverley, Brookton, Narrogin, Wagin, Katanning, Mt Barker, Cranbook and then eventually Albany) travel will somehow be good for regional towns and tourism.
You can drive it in 4hr via the old highway (The original Stagecoach route, no less!) via Kojonup. And REX flies it in 1hr.
Thank you
You are basically screwed, the attitudes i’ve seen and the state of the country is shocking.
I might email in a post about it, Oz is in a terrible state.
In WA, the professional railway folk and those in the enthusiast and historical fraternity with a better understanding of the history and practicalities of the whole thing just roll their eyes.
But what hope have you when it’s a social media thing driven by rose glasses wearing nostalgics (who remember riding the Albany Progress as kids, and the sense of adventure never went away), or folks who are scared of driving and/or find the bus service uncomfortable?
For some folk Carpe, trust in Government can never be exploded…
You are basically screwed, the attitudes i’ve seen and the state of the country is shocking.
well fuck off then
Qld… ours still makes daily appearances, and usually makes the local nightly news.
Haven’t seen Coatsworth on TV since he recommended against vaccines for teens. Neither have we seen much of the old or new Fed CHOs for a while either.
OK just saw a young woman on the windy beach wearing a mask.
Is this Peak Perth?
Wearing headphones with an auto-repeat “breathe in, breathe out”
That’s peak Perth.
Not entirely true, but close enough.
First AZ dose (they can hit me with mRNA at the point of a gun) can – especially in men of a certain age… mine – have a side-effect of the runs.
I was – though it hadn’t been diagnosed, not for want of trying – already having signs of a gut issue by name of Microscopic Colitis… which also effects men of a certain age, and in much the same way. The combination of the two was, so my Gastro told me, something he’d not seen in 30 years of medicine.
Acute renal failure and blood tests that had one of the folk from ICU pop up to the ward to ensure I wasn’t actually comatose or dead. Or, perhaps, to figure out how I wasn’t! Lost 15kg and ended up in ICU for a day. AND the buggers have told me I have to get off the fags. Which I am, but I am very, very Arky to be around. SWMBO is taunting me, but as she smokes menthol (spit, chuck) it isn’t working.
Pretty much back to normal now, but a rocky few weeks.
HNY to you and yours.
For shame, don’t you know it was a traditional “smoking ceremony?”
Get well, Mark and best 22 both you and the wife.
Presently cost about $6 and almost 3 hours from Hamilton Interchange to Sydney by train. That’s the express.
Last time I did the XPT from Singleton to Central around $30 about 2 hours as it pretty well much expresses from Newcastle to Hornsby, then Strathfield then into Central.
VFT, personally I’d be interested to see the proposed route. The present line through the Kuringai National Park is limited to slow speeds, has quite a few very old tunnels, can’t expand any further sideways and really doesn’t open up till the other side of Gosford. Only other way would out back through Penrith/Richmond then north but you hit the same mountains or along the Northern Beaches and across a couple of kilometers of water the mouth of the Hawkesbury into Ettalong which isn’t happening. Like to see some particulars and cost benefit analysis otherwise it is another ALP stunt.
old Parliament House is nearly burnt down by radicals, none have been arrested and charged.
As I said the other day, they will be given awards either explicitly or implicitly. Canbra is a parasitic marxist abomination full of useless shiny bums with contempt verging on hatred for everyday working Australians (of all racial origins).

I’m sure that’s what it is. It was always Sydney-Canbra VFT. Newie for a change! The Newie freeway really changed everything though- sucking Newcastle into the Sydney conurbation.
I tried to go to a Klimt exhibition yesterday.
Sold out.
Good as gold, JC. If you’re going to be told to give up the fags, starting from 10 or so kg down is the place to be. I’ve never been told to put on weight before. But I have manfully risen to the challenge!!!!
If one looks at the upside, it well and truly shut the Karen sister(s, if one counts IL) the fuck up, so a silver lining in every cloud.
There is often a lot of cart before horse stuff that happens. The last time the Newcastle Sydney VFT was proposed (no route decided, just proposed), government and council proclaimed the site of the Central Coast station to be Ourimbah.
When the Inland Railway was proposed the ‘Via Recta’ aka the “right way” proposal was resurrected. Rather than running the line from Goondiwindi to Poowoomba and then down the range to Brisbane, SG the Goondi line to Warwick, then pick up the formation of the Maryvale Branch, then use the formation of the Mt Edwards Branch to around Kalbar, and either keep going to Ipswich or swing across to Bromelton and the existing SG Line. The missing bit of around 20km between Maryvale and Mt Edwards would require a tunnel under Cunningham Gap or lots of tight curves and steep grades (which is where the original Via Recta proposals all came unstuck).
I was at ARHS line at Rosewood the day the new Gold Coast line was opened to Helensvale (that line’s first terminus) and channel 7 sent a reporterette out to shoot some ‘compare & contrast’ footage. Many of we bystanders laughed when the driver of the steamer when asked a question about then and now, said despite the old technology and windy old railway, in 1996 it takes 10 minutes longer to get to Southport Station (the transit centre is on the old station) from South Brisbane than it did using steam when the line closed in 1964. Needless to say that bit didn’t make it to air.
Yeah. The Sydney basin is a bastard to get any form of transportation artery into or out of. Particularly now that everything that can be developed, has.
And you can safely bet on the NIMBY brigade doing their best to stymie any vaguely practical alternatives.
The ‘Short North’ has always been the busiest of all NSW’s rail lines, because of the sheer concentration of resources and folks in that area. You can’t restrict it to passenger ops and local freight only, because Port Botany is pretty much container-only. All the legacy yards are in the Sydney Metro area now Broadmeadow and much of Newy’s rail infrastructure is long gone, and the only bulk port in that Sydney area is Newcastle’s Kooragang Island. So all grain, coal, etc. from all points of the compass has to go through there.
About the only hope they have of upgrading train speed and capacity through there, is the slow, incremental increase in locomotive horsepower to improve the running times of the non-passenger trains.
government and council proclaimed the site of the Central Coast station to be Ourimbah.
Ourimbah, WTF who is sitting on a tonne of development land there or did someone just pick Ourimbah because it is central to the 2 centres of population? Gosford would be obvious but has grown as far as it can with all the mountains around it but from my observations every time we are down that way I’d say Tuggerah these days. Seems to be booming and not the sleepy forested area I remember as a child.
Masochist.
True, where we are was almost impossible to predict. But it’s not the prediction that’s important, it’s being flexible enough to change your mind and respond.
Apple has a market cap of US$3 trillion. Just fucking wow.
Yep. The present solution is to recut and lower the floor of the Toowoomba tunnel. Though that is a big job, given the intention is still (supposedly) to double-stack container trains along that way.
I am not sure if the extra capacity of a 1.8km long double-stacker limited to 80kph, outweighs the transit speeds and practical running efficiencies of a 1.8km single-stacker that is permitted 115kph.
But then again, I just drive the things and curse out when the shift runs over time due to being delayed.*
* Delays are expensive. Not just to the causing party, but to everyone else affected by it. Particularly when relief crews need to be called on at short notice and driven miles and miles to get to you. And you still need to get to your book-off depot or even all the way home…
Well might the railway fundies roll their eyes!
I rode that passenger train from my home town on the line to school where I boarded in Albany for a couple of years, and managed a couple of Perth-home sleeper rides before it shut down. A useful alternative if you don’t have a car, but they have road coaches nowadays for that situation.
I hitchhiked a lot, after they stopped the passenger trains and I grew up enough.
It seems likely that minorities will hold the balance of power.
If they have any sense, they will neither install Albanese or return Morrison, but take the PMship themselves. Use a purple cabinet if they don’t have enough for ministers. Just picking a side at this stage would destroy any future credibility.
Just picking a side at this stage would destroy any future credibility.
yes I can see that seeing they would be elected because the unipardy is so vile and contemptable.

I’m still hopeful, Carpe.
Reading a novel about WWI. We have lived through stupider times. And more deadly.
I thinks Germs Greer was the original jet in=>say a lot of nasty things about Australia=>jet off again. That sort of contemptuous attitude ignores and insults millions of honest workers and millions who are fighting back,
1. Why Ourimbah ? I suspect a former unlamented Mayor, but whoever it was got the new interurban train servicing faculty built close by, rather than many better sites that required fewer resumptions, and where they didn’t need to build a bridge to ensure staff could get to work when it rained.
2. Apart from the range crossing the Via Recta actually makes sense. The 3 branches involved are relatively straight and flat, it’s just that missing 20km that is a problem, and with a bit of creativity the long proposed highway tunnel/bypass of the landslip prone Gap could be built as well.
SCT has a large container park at Bromelton , or the existing facilities at Acacia Ridge could be used to break the double stacks down to get through Brisbane and use the existing SG infrastructure to move it to the port.
This would orphan the Wallangarra line, but it is only used by 1 or 2 military trains a year and a steam tour from Warwick every 2 months so that should not be a big problem .
I’d be interested to see Carpe’s opinion too. Especially on attitudes, I reckon it will back up a gut feeling I have had for a few years now.
Neilson has turned mind-reading into an almost respectable blogging act. He’s at it again, ascribing motivations that appear non-existent.
Cunning stunt. A tray of unfunded free stuff laid out for the punters.
In infrastructure terms, $500m buys you studies and surveys and preliminary engineering – the delicious prospect of which can be spread in bite-sized pieces around multiple electorates.
It also spins off hopey hope amongst people who would like to see their land values increase because a station might be proposed for Upper Bumcrack (irrespective of such a station spelling certain doom to the ‘fast’ part of the ‘fast rail’ concept).
government and council proclaimed the site of the Central Coast station to be Ourimbah.
Why aren’t gonna go with Gosford as the logical, in-between with all the infrastructure/connections needed already in place?

Poor old Josemite Çam.
I would speculate that he’s still smarting over the humiliating bottom spanking he received about covid statistics recently, but that would no doubt be dismissed as “mind reading”, so I’ll refrain.
Even though I could legitimately attempt to distinguish such a speculation from “mind reading” by reference to the existence or otherwise of an actual “mind” to be read.
Speaking of “reading”, it’s sad that someone who got a taxpayer subsidised education at a supposedly selective school has turned out to have such negligible reading comprehension skills.
The unlamented Judi Stack who was in charge of the BoobCarr’s unlamented Rail Access Corporation (with its wimmin only scholarships)- was also float a fast rail line to Newcastle.
For those of us hoping for a zeppelin led recovery … 🙂
After their PHON fright in the Hunter at their last electoral outing, and with no Fitzgibbon running for the first time since WW1, they need to throw some pork at it.
unlamented Rail Access Corporation (with its many many derailments)
yes makes sense LL
Why are people so worried about upticks? I’ve even reported myself.
Neilson
There’s nothing to “smart” about because you were and continue to be delusional about your so-called win, when you completely wrong.
Here’s the secret to knowing when you or someone is right on a blog, but pretty for everything in life- but especially a blog. If you cannot explain your side of the argument in two, perhaps three sentences at the most, then you’re either wrong or just lying to cover your wrongness. How wrong were you?
How many paragraphs did you write in total screaming about how right you were? Was it 30 boring, verbose paras? I think it was around that number.
When it’s all me me me, upticks are very important.
A gut feeling most of us here have probably had as well.
Mark from Melbourne
What did you lose?
Well, I spent a week in hospital, including a day in ICU, after my first jab, which (by suggestion of three docs) meant that my cunning plan of having shot two just before Xmas didn’t happen.

Basically ussr complaining that no-one here reads or responds to her posts (self important git) and talking about how people here are always talking about the Furniture Store (uh-huh) and laughing at the low post numbers (after bird cleansing). Apparently quantity doesn’t matter because the Furniture Store is all quality.
Also, Breadvan Man is concerned that NFA is MIA.
Which begs the question.
Who has been missing from here for the last couple of weeks?
$500M for the beginning of fast rail. That’s a lot turnips to shove up Snaggletooths arse.
Was it 30 boring, verbose paras? I think it was around that number.
Actually none.
