In the 1960s and 1970s the Soviets diverted water from the Aral Sea to use in agriculture. It’s created an environmental disaster….a real one.

Marise Payne is one of the most useless ministers this country has suffered. She’s not there due to ability and praise from Albo says it all…

There is a canal to the Black Sea. It is also connected to the Volga.
Indeed John, I found this out a few weeks ago from researching something. I can see reason in some of Putins moves in the Crimea as a result.

What was your Question, Cassie.
If it pertains to Byelorussia, then I’ve already answered it.
If Kerensky is the subject, then I think his wiki entry says he married a Brisbane heiress who didn’t live long, that was the reason he was in Brisbane in the 1940s.
It may interest you to know that Stalin never laid a hand on any former Member of The Duma, so Kerensky was never in danger of assassination by the Cheka or NKVD.

Labour is cheap in a workers’ paradise.

The White Sea Canal was pointless Technocracy, 200,000 men died building it, but the Black Sea/Volga Canal makes sense.
Was that built by the Tsars?

Speaking of which, I’ve just blundered onto some videos of Jimmy Savile – among the ones containing ample footage of him groping schoolgirls’ behinds is an interview with that silver helmet headed imbecile, Farkinson.

Remember – the only one who ever called Savile out was Johnny Lydon.

Actually no. I can’t recall the British program. I think it was a old comedy series with Henry Enfield but the references to Saville’s behavior was very clear.

Wearing an Akubra without proper country credentials is a sure road to ridicule and social shunning by country folk.
Politicians should realise this and never, ever appear in a rural electorate attempting to look local by wearing shiny RM Williams boots, gingham check shirts or an Akubra hat. All this does is attract mirth, finger pointing and comments about posers from the big smoke.

Acceptable attire is a straw panama, especially if like Albo, the thatch is thinning dramatically, a blue chambray shirt, (but NO button down pockets) and tan chinos. Casual enough, without the poser suggestion.

The wide brim Akubra must be earned

“Technology billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes has launched an audacious push to accelerate the closure of major coal-fired power stations, with an $8bn bid for AGL Energy with Canadian asset manager Brookfield.

The offer promises to get AGL out of coal in just a decade under a plan which would reshape the national energy grid and accelerate the uptake of renewable energy technologies”.

Speaking of Captain Rats, here are some Bosi highlights from his latest campaign, and from the Mail link put up earlier:

‘I’m not a nice guy. This (the coming war) is going to be brutal, but only in direct proportion to the brutality that these people have visited upon us.’

Sounds familiar somehow.

‘Be brave. Some of us might be hurt, and some of us might die,’ he said.

Really, really familiar.

The former colonel received just 513 votes when he ran as an independent in the Eden Monaro by-election in 2020

Lieutenant Colonel, and see above for reasons why. Bosi’s extended family must be yuuuge.

‘You’ve seen what they have planned for us. You’ve seen the vaccination camps. Have you seen how they have gas pipes connecting them?’

Or water pipes. Or adrenochrome pipes from the tunnels. Bosi’s covid advice (he believes it’s real as well):

‘The virus can be simply killed by staying in the shower for 15 minutes at a time and breathing through the nose,’ he said.

Uh huh.

Bosi himself has threatened and encouraged executions of notable public figures, including Alan Jones, Peta Credlin, and Ita Buttrose for their silence over what they describe as ‘vaccine genocide’.

Said executions to be adjudged on and carried out by The People. Probably.

There are plenty of people who think renewables are sufficient. The refusal of both major parties to address the potential of 4th gen nuke plants makes me furious because China is planning to build 150 nuke plants in the next decade, a number of European countries are building nuke plants, and I can almost guarantee that at some point Germany will wake the f**k up and do the same.

Earlier tonight Ed Case said that Byelorussia was “white russians’ etc.
Byelorussia was a state of the USSR. It translates as “White Russia”, and is the modern state known as Belarus.
It is not to be confused with the “White Russians” who were pro-tsarist and anti bolshevik/commie. I know a bloke who is from a ‘white russian’ background. They fled and many ended up in China. His parents grew up in China. Then they got sent to Hong Kong when he was a kid in the ’50s etc, then Australia. I still have yet to set eyes on the famous medieval city of Carcassone.
This afternoon, I promise.
This newer part of Carcassone was set out in a grid pattern, in the 12th 13th century?
The reason the house around the corner is the oldest Gothic building in Bastide is because the black Prince marched his men to Narbonne and back in 1355 and sacked about every town in between.
Two major fires in the earlier part of the 17th century took out a few blocks of what we call Tudor Houses, (the translation from French called them wood and cob) of which I’ve yet to see an example.
Quite a few of the Gothic/renaissance/a little bit later houses of the bastide are empty and renovator’s delights though I see a big sign that the council is doing urban renewal with the promise of low cost social housing and there are works in progress.
It reminds me a little of the eighth and eleventh arondisements in Paris, you can access the main streets but behind big sets of double doors are laneways are rows of atelier and private courtyards.
No signs protesting tourist floors as I saw in Girona, who must have caught the Barcelona disease.
Carcassone must have been pretty big, back in the day as it’s a 20 minute walk to the Cité.
I could order a conveyance more fitting for someone of my august station, but am going to settle for Shank’s pony.

SP…it’s “Granny Faulty”.

Sorry you bitter lemon, there is nothing ‘faulty’ about good people wanting to marry and raise a family with you, and your children being likewise blessed.

I LOVE being a Grandma.

Mind you, a very smart, talented, beautiful Jewish woman who ended up old, single & childless in large part (according to herself), ‘due to all the horrible Jewish men she wasted her time with’, makes me wonder if there really wasn’t anything wrong with all those Jewish men.

And no, that isn’t inappropriate either; for one, it’s something else you proudly raised yourself and no one can attack someone with the obsessive derangement you attack me, without some deep psychological brokenness feeding your enmity.

Oh I know, you get on fine with other mothers, but nobody knows what you get from those women while they all know you’ll get nothing from me but truth you don’t want heard.

Probably not, get very sodden in the rain, cowboy hats up here tend to be bigger and shaped, in the dry season. Sleasy is also wearing a sheep squatters akubra and it is a long time since sheep were in the NT in any numbers.

Warren Snowdon always wore wore a straw hat, suited him, Albo’s look is so contrived, scholarly glasses do not make one more authentic, and has he had face work as well as teeth? Nothing will wash away the image of him stepping out of the Happy Ending shop having had his release. What a grub.

There are many and varied reasons why some women have never married, I have several family members in that situation, that just never met Mr Right, all are valued and loved and no-one would presume to criticise them on the basis that they didn’t get married and have children

Travels in the Ukraine.
Flew in to Simferopol International. Really just a tin shed, Dubbo leaves it in the shade. Hired a car and motored into town and spent years next 2 + hours finding our hotel. A lot of the city had barely domesticated dogs snarling at the lost and confused trying to make sense of the signage in two Cyrillic versions.
Eventually found the joint which turned out to be a rather beautiful early 19th C converted palace in the only section of town that catered for tourists that we found.
Drove to Sevastopol via Bakkchisarai, a desperate place of mostly brutalist Soviet architecture, but once the centre of the Tartar empire. On the outskirts the remains of the Khanate palace which contained the still intact falconry tower was great.
Simferopol was amazing. Beautiful Greek ruins, churches and monuments to war everywhere along the waterfront. Both the Russian and the Ukrainian fleets could be seen anchored off the city. A 45 m high statue of 2 armed figures glared at far off Germany.
We declined advice to stay in “The White People Hotel” and settled for “The Admiral”, where the proprietor gave us thorough interrogations 3 days running, and exact directions to the site of the Charge of the Light Brigade; which turned out to be an unmarked battle site and a pretty anonymous field.
Balaclava is on a narrow strip of water(100m wide) and maybe one mile in length. The Sovs had dug into the hill on the north side and built a workshop for its nuclear sub fleet which we spent probably 2 hours wandering through.
Then eastward into the mountains with amazing views over the Black Sea riviera and to Yelta which was the only place we witnessed hostility, manifested by being totally ignored in restaurants and on the street.
Lots of fat Russkies on the beach and our 1960’s Sanitorium accomodation was 1940,s quality. The cable car up into the mountains took us from 28 degrees to ice in 20 minutes.
Drove from there due north to Odessa in a long day. The worst drivers bar Vietnam of any place I’ve been; equal parts terrifying (the wife) and exhilarating (me).
Odessa centre is fantastic, a mini Paris of maybe 1k *2. Saw The Flying Dutchman performed by a German State co in the Opera House, 6 months later bombed by the Russians.
I don’t know if I’d recommend you go there now, but if the opportunity arises grab it with both hands.

The Australia I knew and grew up with has, sadly, gone, as this pandemic has proved.

We are now a nation, no, a continent of egocentrics. The cohesion that makes a society is torn apart. It’s “Me first”, “Me second” and if there’s any left over “Give it to me”. Unless there is some common, driving purpose, I fear we will never be as one again.

We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come

I’m a grandmother, born, baptised, married Catholic with Jewish, close blood relatives, including grandchildren, but my extended family pretty well covers all the major continents, colours, beliefs & religions.

You know all this (having demanded this information from me ridiculously too often), yet you mob of bullshitters still, repeat, Repeat, REPEAT YOUR LIES.

Because you are a grandmother with an extended family, your various excretions do not automatically constitute truth, nor does that qualify you to screech at anyone about anything.

My apple is not your duck egg.

For one, I haven’t screeched.
I’ve calmly answered back the screechers ever escalating lies with their posts and mine, in order & context.

But so what, the screeching meanies will continue to perpetuate their lies –

1. that I have a problem with The Catholic Church rather than bad people within it, deliberately debasing it

2. that I’m an anti-Semite when it’s utter bollocks Cassie pulled out of her arse and everyone has to believe cos no one’s even allowed to say why& she & socks keep repeating the lie, not because they even believe it’s true but as The Excuse to ban me because I call them out on their other lies

Now all day we had acceptable posters agreeing that Lies & Liars are bad and calling out rosie on her lack of compassion for a seriously injured old lady. ‘Yeay!’ Everyone cheers on those stands, until I join in with those popular opinions then, Bam! The Liars & lies take off again, and everyone’s fine with it, and rosie somehow becomes a poor martyred saint.

It’s not about me.
It never has been about me.
It’s always been about showing how online public forums groom people into accepting official narratives by social pressure.

When lone little individuals stand up and say, ‘Nah, I’m not buying that bullshit. Here’s why.’, it reminds others that even though it can cost them ‘popularity’ they’re free to reject ‘The Popular Lies’ and enjoy a life of integrity with loved ones.

The Global Agenda can not survive those individuals becoming the majority.

Post visit to La Cité.

Without doubt very, very beautiful, inside and out but it’s very touristic, though you can walk through some sections with hardly anyone else around.

If you wish you can stay in an hotel inside the walls and there are places at the foot of the hill too, also very old and picturesque, with a semi circular street winding round to the old bridge, now pedestrian only, or you can go across the river and stay in the Bastide, as I did.
If you come by car you can park opposite the drawbridge and walk straight in, a day to wander, have lunch, dilly dally and move on.
The slightly lower carpark is currently closed for archaeological works, I could see steps down and the footings of ancient buildings when I peeked across at one of the long holes in the ground.
I’d have been keen to learn more but the only museum on the history seems geared towards children and it won’t be open tomorrow anyhow.
Well other than the Inquisition museum which is part of a chain that I’ve been in before, in Toledo and Lucca, and the second time only because I had someone with me who wanted to go.
I’m going to walk across the bridge again tomorrow and have a bit more of a look at the at the lower town on the other side.

Too right, I’ll save my concerns for real people.

Nah ya bullshitting backpacker, I (like other good people here all day), made it perfectly clear we were not impressed with your utter lack of compassion for all the people the police injured for peacefully protesting against Trudeau’s Tyranny.

I was particularly disgusted in your stating they deserved their injuries for daring to peacefully protest, something that was perfectly legal until all those Covid Mandates you kept making excuses for, made Tyranny ‘Legal’ instead and perfectly acceptable for you.

I’m pretty disgusted that you keep lying.
I said that if this had been a progressive protest a lot of people here would have had zero sympathy with anyone getting in the way of police and more or less that the hyperbolic response to the story was based on a lie, many times repeated, that a woman was killed.
You think this would have gotten the same airplay if the headline was ‘woman knocked down at protest, may have dislocated shoulder?’
The discussion was around the loaded language ‘trampled’ and the outright lie ‘woman killed’.

rosie
rosie
February 21, 2022 5:23 am

And of course the reports regarding the two people on the ground consistently say both people fell and immediately got up to continue their protest activities.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, a 49 year old woman was seriously injured in a interaction with a police horse.
All night, spitting chips, about something that didn’t happen.

“The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says a 49-year-old woman was reportedly seriously injured following an interaction with a Toronto police officer on a horse around 5:14 p.m. on Rideau Street and Mackenzie Avenue.

The police watchdog is asking anyone with information or video footage to contact them.

The injury is not related to a Friday incident involving police officers on horseback.

Rumours amplified by a Fox News contributor in the United States said that a woman was trampled to death by a horse on Friday. That misinformation spread rapidly online.

In videos shared widely on social media of that incident, police officers on horseback can be seen riding through a crowd of people. Two individuals appear to get knocked to the ground.

In a press conference on Saturday, February 21, Ottawa interim police chief Steve Bell confirmed that two protesters “did collide with the horses. They fell down and immediately got back up, and started to again engage in their protest activities.”

Bell could not clarify if a bicycle had been thrown at a police officer’s horse, though a tweet from Ottawa Police Service on Friday did indicate “a bicycle was thrown at the horse further down the line and caused the horse to trip. The horse was uninjured.”

WATCH: Bell addresses Friday’s incident involving a police horse knocking down two protesters (question at 13:33)

Anti-riot weapon allegedly discharged
In the second incident being investigated by SIU, the police watchdog says a Vancouver police officer allegedly discharged an anti-riot weapon at individuals on Sparks Street and Bank Street around 7:18 p.m.

It says no injuries have been reported but is asking anyone who may have been hit by a projectile to contact them.

Six investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the cases.

Cannon-Brookes’ $8bn bid to shut down coal

to South Australia by road, I must have seen a few hundred wind turbines.
That day 99% of them were feathered.
GigaWatts of capacity doing zero useful work.

by road back to Sicktoria, same turbines barely moving
somewhere not far from Horsham, Dimboola maybe, there was massive solar farm
too bad it was completely over cast all day
maybe what, 5 percent output?

right now I’m in a motel sitting under cover basically in the carpark and watching the services crews all leave for work all hi-viz and Hilux diesel

Its new here maybe 5 years old and no common area, no power points for the laptop where I am.
There’s no desk staff.
Only cookie going around collecting breakfast orders from outside people’s doors.
We had to pre-pay and collect a key for the room from an electronic safe.
I suppose they’ll charge us later for the beer and canadian club we drank from the mini-bar when we got in.

“Cannon-Brookes’ $8bn bid to shut down coal”

Ah…so we now have a situation where a rich, entitled, Cranbrook boy, double barrelled surname, someone who’s never had to struggle for anything, who grew up in privilege in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, who’s now a zealous and fully paid up member of the cult of climate change, stepping in to put one of the final nails in the coffin that was our electricity grid. And watch Angus Taylor and the state and federal Liberals sit back and do nothing.

Meanwhile, of course, this charlatan called Cannon-Brookes is making lots of dosh from renewables. You actually couldn’t make this rot up. This is brought to you by decades of climate appeasement from the state and federal Liberals and Nationals. Just remember this next time you vote.

The scenario coming, by the end of the decade, is regular blackouts from an unreliable grid and prohibitively expensive electricity so that electricity will only be for the rich because the poor will not be able to afford what’s coming.

Last night I used some appropriate adjectives to describe Matt Kean. In any just society he would one day be put on trial…..but then almost all our politicians should be put on trial. As for what should happen after the trials, I’ll leave that to your imagination, I know what I’d do.

Trump’s Truth Social App Set for Release Monday in Apple App Store (20 Feb)

Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s new social media venture, Truth Social, will launch on Apple’s App Store this week, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) Chief Executive Devin Nunes said on Sunday.

“This week we will begin to roll out on the Apple App Store,” Nunes, a former Republican U.S. Representative, said in an appearance on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.”

“Our goal is, I think we’re going to hit it, I think by the by the end of March we’re going to be fully operational with at least within the United States,” he said.

Be interesting to see how long it lasts on the Apple App Store, but there are plenty other ways to get such things out.

Enjoy Carcassonne, rosie! We stayed in Rue de la Gaffe just beside the walls and a short walk up to the entrance. Had a car with us (a Cactus of all things) and parked it in a cupboard somewhere nearby.

The square up in the castle is a nice spot, though very touristy as it would be. I bought a little oil from a gallery off the square (like a good tourist) – it’s of the castle with a beautiful rendering of the “southern” skies. Paid a poop load for it, but I see it every day as it hangs beside the bed.

No. You only say this after you some ridiculous nonsense and have to tone it down and walk it back. The fact that the Catholic church is statistically safer for children – moreso than any other church, the scouts, public schools – anywhere but a family with two married parents – doesn’t matter to you until you are thoroughly scolded first.

You are a disgrace.

If Cannon-Brookes were to go to a water treatment facility and put a sack of poison in the supply, he’d be tried and imprisoned.

What is different about manoeuvring to shut down the power grid, for that is what will happen.

I foresee electricity rationing amongst a raft of other measures to prop up a tottering edifice. People will have to decide – do I cook tonight, do I wash some clothes, do I charge up the car? Do I do none of these things because I want to stay warm?

And they will pay through the nose, regardless of the choice.

Meanwhile, the likes of Cannon-Brookes will thrive – they will have an inside lane on supply and the price won’t affect them at all. They are rich.
